when lily invited nikolai to the park to spend some time with aria, she knew she had an ulterior motive to it. she’d been trying to find the words to tell anyone really about the opportunity she’d got and if she was taking aria all the way to new york with her, nikolai deserved to know. when he turned up, she put on a faint smile. “hey, erm, before you play with aria, i need to talk to you.” she backed up a little from the sand pit with him but keeping her eyes on aria instead of nikolai. “i got an amazing opportunity to study in a lab in new york over the next year and... i’m gonna take it. me and aria are moving... next week.”

Robyn had pre-arranged with Nikolai for him to meet her at the park - knowing full well that there was a very small basketball court - and choosing an early morning trip to it so there wouldn’t be many people around. She waited at a bench with a basketball next to her until she saw him. “Hey, so, I figured if you’re going to have me watch basketball videos to teach me about this stuff, you might as well show me how to actually do this stuff too...” She threw the basketball over to him as she said this. “...and you’re not allowed to say no because I actually spent money on getting a basketball just for this so you’re stuck with me now.”

lily had just gotten aria to sleep and was ready to leave the room when she noticed xena. usually, she’d lay down on the floor ready to stay by aria but today she was staying by the door and sniffing it. it was odd but lily put it down to her maybe needing to go outside in to the garden so she opened the door and followed her until she didn’t go down the stairs and continued down the hallway - all the way to nikolai’s room where lily could hear some movement. she knew that neither of aria’s grandparents were home after opting to go out for a meal which put her on alert. her hand moved to xena’s collar to hold her back until she knew for certain and opened the door to find nikolai. she let out a sigh and reassured xena it was okay before letting go of her collar. “didn’t know you were coming back. how long is it for this time? a day or two?”

lily knew that nikolai’s parents had invited him over for sunday dinner which, after the meal, led to aria practically dragging nikolai to do her bedtime routine with her so lily spent her time helping to clean up after the meal. after washing up, she went to sit outside on the porch with a book and a glass of wine, still working out the best time to talk to nikolai since finding out about some kind of altercation between adrian and him. 

when he walked out, she sat up a little. “sorry if you had plans before getting pulled in to bedtime stories...” she started.

[Text] Hey, I know that we talked about the fact that my re-enrolment at MU was accepted during our last phone call but I just wanted to let you know that my flight back to California arrives today. I wanted to give you the heads up so you aren't freaked out to see me on campus... it would be nice if you could also remind that boyfriend of yours that we're actually kind of civil at the moment so that he doesn't punch me in the face for daring to get a university degree.
