hii! honeslty just curious, I read/watched kuroshitsuji AGES ago and I don't think I've finished the manga anyway, does grell go by she/her?? I vageuly remember ppl headcanonning them as enby though iirc in canon he's a guy?

Your tags peaked my curiosity, I haven't seen any Kuro content in a hot minute, but I remember it being the absolute must watch in my peak anime watching years lol And I absolutely loved the manga's artstyle

in canon grell is a trans woman, yana toboso has said something like "grell is a man with a woman's heart" ages ago and sometimes around 2014/16 had tweeted something about wanting to be more careful with her representation of people like grell in the future, don't quote me on that thought because i only read that tweet once and only remember reading a shitty screenshot of a translation of that interview where she allegedly said that.

i can however show you this:

it's from a bonus chapter (after chapter 108) about the popularity polls (it's a very convoluted non canon chapter) but it's one of the most blatant example of her being trans.

there's also the way she constantly refers to herself as a "young maiden" ect. idk how it goes exactly in the og but in french they translated it so grell always refers to herself with feminine terms while everyone else misgender her including the narrator. she very consistently reaffirm herself as a woman through every single ones of her appearances, like it's a thing she very much does, every single time she's on screen.

i haven't watched the anime in forever (cause it's kind of a disgrace and insult to the manga lol) but if i remember properly (which i mostly likely don't) they did omit/lowkey censor some of grell explicitly going "i wish i had been born a woman/could have been able to carry children" when she first properly introduce herself as a shinigami & the other half of jack the killer. (the anime also really did lean a lot more into the pervert queer caricature whereas in the manga she's given a bit more dignity, especially the further the story goes. though that might be my own impression and maybe it didn't change that much i just love her a whole lot).

also because i have to, please forget the anime (the first two seasons that is) and read the manga first and foremost because oh boy, what a disaster the anime is (nostlagia and atmosphere wise it's entertaining, i really love the op & ed, but it just, i just cant man it doesn't even compare to the manga at all). only watch book of circus -> book of murder -> campania movie -> the new private school arc that's coming soon (idk what they called it) after reading the manga.

Galvanized and sparking, gunmetal clouds tossed themselves across the sky. Across the way, the Metatron stood, unblinking and monochrome. Beside him, a hundred thousand angels flickered with holy light. Daggers billowed with heavenly flames, rending the comfortable shadows apart and replacing them with the antiseptic, blinding breadth of apotheosis.

Crowley felt his breath catch in his throat.

The end tasted like the hollowing breath of November—the shape of absence, the rattling gasp of a drowning man. If they were to go down, they'd go down hand in hand, he and his angel. He tightened his grip, and felt Aziraphale return the pressure with a rare ferocity.

They walked a tightrope. Tension, sharp as a heavenly blade, hummed in the air between them. Our side.

Then, without warning, Nina appeared beside Crowley, Maggie in tow. The demon opened his mouth to speak, to ask them why (to tell them to go back into the bookshop where it was safe, to reassure them that everything would be okay—even if he couldn't convince himself).

"Give me your hand," Nina instructed. Aziraphale's brow crinkled in confusion, and even the Metatron's gaze flickered to the two humans. She stood, hand outstretched, waiting for Crowley to comply. After a moment of bewildered sputtering and half-formed questions, he placed his palm against hers. On Nina's other side, she reached to join hands with Maggie. The rising blush in the blonde woman's cheeks didn't escape Crowley's notice.

There, in the middle of the street at the end of the world, the four of them turned to look upon the army of God.

It was only then that the Metatron spoke. "Enlisting the assistance of humans? Really? This is just pathe—"

"Oi, shut it," Maggie snapped. And then it was Nina's turn to blush. No need for sudden rainstorms or Austen-esque ballroom dances, Crowley thought. Just gotta get humans facing down Armageddon and then va-voom. He tucked that information away for later, and returned his attention to the two women beside him.

Nina and Maggie exchanged a look, and then, as one: "With our combined powers of gay, we cast thee out!"

All was still. Aziraphale remained silent, but the demon could hear him practically vibrating with anxiety. Crowley squeezed his hand, fear running through him in equal measure.

All the world was quiet, save for the crackling of heavenly fire. Anticipation rose like a looming tidal wave.

And then the Metatron scoffed. "I have no idea what you hoped you might accomplish in doing that. Honestly, this has to be the most pitiful attempt at a—"

But he didn’t get to finish, because, in the blink of an eye, the holy messenger and his heavenly army were all violently yoinked up into the sky.

A beat passed, astonished and still.

And then the clouds cleared, revealing a tall, curving rainbow that arced its way across all of Soho. Nina placed a hand over her heart and sniffed as she peered up into the heavens. “Gay rights,” she murmured, soft and reverent.

Crowley wiped a tear from his eye. “Hell yeah, gay rights.”

But like. . . Maybe it’s just me being an EJ irl or just how much Mitchell fascinates me for no reason at all, hands down one of my favorite “background” CRP characters to a popular/mainstream one.

To sum up the eyeless Jack story told in Mitch’s point of view

Around midnight that night, Mitch wakes to see Eyeless Jack over his bed, wearing a blue mask with black liquid dripping from empty eye sockets behind the mask.

Mitch manages to grab his camera and take a picture before Jack attacks, clawing at his chest. Mitch escapes and flees into the woods, where he trips and is knocked unconscious. When Mitch awakens in the hospital, it is revealed to him that Edwin had been killed the previous night. His parents drive him to the house to collect his belongings. When he enters, Mitch sees Edwin's corpse and a small object lying next to it. He observes it find that it is his kidney with a bite taken out of it, covered in a black substance.

I guess I really like the fact that unlike other victims of different EJ stories (or just any slasher / CRP story) Mitch isn’t a complete dumbass and he fights and flights against EJ. Whether EJ psychologically tortured Mitch (as some alternate versions go) or not idrc I still find him so silly. . . AND HE DOESNT DIE ?? WOO HOO YOU GO BITCH QUEEN !!!!!

The media of Mitch that is out there indicates the man has either blonde or black hair , blue eyes , and pale skin.

My guy is most definitely in his 20’s (assuming he is mid - late 20’s) and while not having a canonical full name (that I know of) I’ve seen multiple sources saying it’s Mitch(ell) Harlan’s / start w a H?? Idk. EJ’s story is left to be a mysterious one that is easily bended to fit anybody’s creative imaginary. That goes the same way for Mitch as well.
