Okay but just had idea of a semi-crack time travel au so-

Everybody in WWX’s generation timetravels back to the gusu era to wake up in their past selves (this includes NMJ, Wen sibs, JYL, XY, LXC, JGY, SMS and then everyone doing lessons at Gusu) BUT they all arive at slighty different times and none of them know about the other

proceed everybody going off on sidequests

JC goes off to kill WRH (WQ has already done it)

WWX goes to kill WC, and maybe some other people

SMS immediately starts trying to kill half the Lan sect and LWJ is investigating until future him arrives nad promptly names SMS as the culprit before trying to leave

JZX trying to make friends with JC & WWX this time around and prove he can make good husband material, unsure why they seem so uninterested (and why WWX keeps looking at him guilitly)

NHS & LXC wind up in a spiderman pointing meme outside JGY’s place of work, and thus realise they both time travleled (they also make so much noise they alert JGy maybe?) They come to a compromise that instead of NHS outright killing JGY they will just lock him up while LXC tries to prove there is good in him. Torn between JGY pretending to be innocent Meng Yao this whole time (becuase otherwise he’d die) vs him coming from the future part way through captivity. But even MY is sus AF

also MY exposes that he is a time traveller by like responding to the wrong name/sect leader JIn or something Either that or he’s too good at being meek that LXC & NHS are like yeah, you’ve never been like this. This is an act

occasional cuts to NMJ in Qinghe, away from teh chaos in Gusu thinking he’s the only time travelle rand trying to think of a plan

XY franklly doesn’t give a single solitary fuck. He will stay away from them all, they don’t bother him he won’t bother them and other way around

Answer to the Time Travel JGY poll - previous re-blog before this one.

I've gone with get rid of JGS sooner, but also play things differently.

The first part of the plan is the most distateful to him, he doesn't actual dislike Jin Zixuan, but if it's to work JGS needs to be without a viable heir and needs to have a visible reason to hate the Wen.

So on his way back to the Lanling after having escape the xuanwu cave, JZX dies in an ambush. Getting hold of Wen arrows had been easy.

Then it's a case of just not letting NMJ see him kill the Nie sect general - they are plenty of other ways to die in war - he'd been too hasty the first time. He can still go undercover, this time it is with NMJ & LXC knowledge.

He doesn't really care if NMJ likes him or hates him afterwards. Too many hurtful things had been said in the original timeline for that - and JGY doesn't give people second chances.

So the sunshot campaign plays out as before. JGY has no interest in saving lotus pier or WWX.

Losing JZX has done little to change JGS and JGY knows that his father has to die next. He has to die before he can arrange the wedding with Qin Su.

After all Yunmeng Jiang was suppose to tie itself by marriage to Lanling Jin. Jiang Yanli was a good woman, and most of all not JGS child. If JGS has tried anything with YZY he'd have been dead years ago.

So they marry, it's not the wedding JYL wanted, but in the wake of the war, Yunmeng Jiang needs the support of Lanling Jin.

All he needs to do with WWX is stop him becoming involved with the remaining members of the Wen sect - If Wen Qing hadn't asked WWX for help, if he hadn't owed he so very much, he would have remained at lotus pier, drinking and slowly succumbing to his lack of golden core and use unorthodox cultivation in it's place.

JGY strikes a bargin with WQ, she'll work for him in exchange for WN's safety, in return he'll get rid of JGS and improve how the other Wen are treated. Her other choice, he says is for both her and WN to die right now. She accepts, for WN, she can endure almost anything.

JGY accepts the brotherhood with NMJ and LXC, because more than anyone, the one is his heart is still LXC. He doesn't alter the music - NMJ is going to die anyway, let is be slow and painful into madness - let NHS witness those hard awful years seeing his brother become a stranger to him, that is punishment enough.

JGS dies the same death as before - there was a poetic justice to it that JGY feels too fitting to change.

How sad it is, people say, that JGS never lived to see the birth of his grandson. They still call the child Jin Ling. He won't be the same child, but JGY can live with that.

JGY looks at his life. He's a sect leader, chief cultivator, a husband and father. NMJ will die, and NHS will have no reason blame anyone or seek revenge. LXC, already grateful for all that JGY has done for him, will no doubt turn to him for comfort when NMJ dies.

What will happen to WWX he doesn't particularly care. Perhaps JGY could ask WQ to help either NMJ or WWX, but he has no inclination to. He has no interest in what LWJ will do. Nor any desire to embark on JGS interest in demonic cultivation - no sense damaging the good reputation he's built.

When XY is caught, no one at Lanling Jin has any interest in saving him.

This time JGY has everything he wants, and he's not going to do anything that might ruin it.

“Everything was under control, Wen Qing,” Wei Wuxian says, smiling through clenched teeth. There’s drying blood gluing his slacks to his skin and sweat beading on his forehead and throat, but his hands don’t tremble as he lowers himself into a chair. He at least has the good grace to sit at the table, so that she’ll have somewhere to put her supplies. She’s going to murder him anyway, but it’ll be much more convenient to kill him in a kitchen chair than on the couch. Wen Qing likes her couch. She intends to keep it blood-free.

“Clearly it was not,” Wen Qing half-snarls, and she snaps a hairtie around her bun to keep her hair out of her face as she glares down at him. A quick rummage in her pockets produces several purple exam gloves, liberated from the hospital during a shift and forgotten. “A-Ning, get me a towel from the kitchen, one of the flour sack ones, and a bowl of warm water, and the shears kit from the junk drawer. Everyone else, figure yourselves out, I’m not running a daycare.”

A-Ning, who’s always been a good boy even if Wen Qing is taking pains not to know what he does with his time these days, vanishes like a cat into the kitchen. Mianmian, who has sense, promptly knocks her knuckles against Wei Wuxian’s head and says, “Be good, Yuandao,” before she flops down onto the couch without regard for her regal evening gown and apparently goes to sleep. Nie Huaisang, who knows when he’s no longer needed, picks his way across the room to Wen Qing’s only armchair, and folds himself up like an origami figure that looks very unlikely in his suit.

Lan Wangji, who has never done anything convenient in his life, remains standing beside Wei Wuxian’s chair and blinks at Wen Qing.

Wen Qing has no idea why everyone pretends Lan Wangji is completely unreadable. He couldn’t be clearer if he printed make me move, I dare you on his forehead. He’s smeared with blood, all down one side from half-carrying Wei Wuxian to her doorstep, and he’s bruising up blue on one cheekbone, and there’s a table knife tucked into the pocket of his suit jacket, bent out of shape into makeshift brass knuckles. Wen Qing doesn’t really feel like fighting the point just now.

“Fine,” she snaps, “just stay out of my way. And you,” she adds, pointing at Wei Wuxian. He cringes a little, because he’s smart. “We’re going to have a talk.”

“Jiejie,” A-Ning says, reappearing with towels and trauma shears in hand. She doesn’t twitch when her brother pads up behind her and lays the lot on the table. Wen Qing is used to her brother drifting around like a ghost, and to his wide-eyed expression of trying to get on her good side. “Don’t be mad at him.”

“I am very mad at him,” Wen Qing says. “Bring me the water or I’ll be mad at you too.” Wei Wuxian snorts out a breathless laugh, and Wen Qing grabs the trauma shears from her tidy pack of tools to shut him up. “So,” she says, crouching down and briskly cutting up the seam of his pants toward his knee. “What the fuck happened?”

“Got shot,” Wei Wuxian says, helpfully.

“I can see that,” Wen Qing says, and only barely resists the urge to give his leg a shove and see if that makes him focus up. She cuts the extra fabric away, straight across the knee crease, and gives a light tug on the rest, just to check if she might be able to get it off immediately. Wei Wuxian makes a breathy noise, like a swallowed gasp, and she absently touches his calf, a soothing gesture until the trembling eases. “Can I get a little more detail? Was it a cop?”

“No! I’m--I’m just a hacker, people don’t shoot hackers,” Wei Wuxian says with completely false confidence. “People shoot, I don’t know, cat burglars and hitters. Lan Zhan’s been shot, right, Lan Zhan?”

“Clearly, people shoot hackers too,” Lan Wangji says flatly. But then, because he’s weak, he adds, conciliatory, “But yes. Five times. It is my job.”

“My brother’s never been shot, right?” Wen Qing raises her voice at the end, over the rush of water in the other room, and hears a squeak of alarm.

“Uh--that’s right, A-jie!”

“Because I would kill him,” Wen Qing tells Wei Wuxian matter-of-factly. “And then I would kill his entire team that got him shot. You understand that, right?”

“Yes, ma’am,” Nie Huaisang confirms from the armchair, because he might be a ruthless son of a bitch when he feels like it, a mastermind whose best game is poker and has the mask to prove it, but he’s also a well-trained younger brother and he’s never once had the guts to fuck with Wen Qing. “Wen Ning has never been shot.”

“Good,” Wen Qing says forbiddingly. “Because I don’t ask questions about what you get my brother into,” she continues to Wei Wuxian. “Just like I didn’t ask questions about how my brother paid for my degree. But that doesn’t mean you get to show up on my doorstep at eleven on a Saturday night with a bullet hole in your leg, and answer no questions.”

“That’s fair,” Mianmian says, without opening her eyes. “You have to give her that one, Yuandao.”

A-Ning slips back into the room and puts a metal bowl of warm water on the floor next to Wen Qing’s knee, and then walks into the bathroom, because he’s a good boy and he knows what she’ll need before she can even ask for it.

“This is going to hurt,” she tells Wei Wuxian, quiet and serious. "Keep talking, it’ll keep you awake.”

“You’re so mean to me,” he complains as she wrings out a cloth until it’s only damp. “You won’t even let me pass out? I got shot! I got shot taking down the CEO of an oil company, by the way, you should--fuck!”

Wen Qing’s free hand locks around Wei Wuxian’s lower leg, a practiced grip to hold him in place as he startles at the pressure on the wound. “Hold still, and it’ll be quicker. Tell me about your latest idiot crusade, Wuxian.”

She soaks the blood-stiff cloth until it can be cut away and lets Wei Wuxian’s shaking voice wash over her, barely listening. Something about an oil spill, and a family whose entire town was crippled when the fishing industry went belly up. It’s all very idealistic. It’s all very Wei Wuxian. They got the guy on camera shooting a civilian, though, which is apparently just icing on Mianmian’s grifter cake of very illegal bank transfers and a burgeoning RICO case.

“Okay,” Wen Qing says, when she’s cut away the rest of Wei Wuxian’s pant leg and exposed the bullet wound--halfway up his outer thigh, blessedly clear of the artery, but clearly a very small caliber, the kind of thing a CEO might be able to get into a benefit without looking excessively paranoid. Which brings her to... “Well, this is going to suck a lot,” she says.

“It already sucks a lot,” Wei Wuxian says, and his laugh is a little hysterical. “What in particular are you thinking about?”

“Next time,” Wen Qing says, carefully dipping her tweezers in rubbing alcohol, “get shot with a bigger gun.”

“Absolutely not. What? I’m not getting shot again, and definitely not with a bigger gun, what is wrong with you?”

“This bullet didn’t go all the way through,” Wen Qing says. “So I’m going to have to take it out. A-Ning, come here and hold a light. Lan Wangji, hold him down.”

Wei Wuxian lets out a breath and it trembles, but for all his dramatics, he’s never been a coward. Once, when Wen Qing was in undergrad and she and her brother were surviving the fallout of the Wen mob going to prison in droves and Wei Wuxian had just been kicked out of the Jiangs, he cut open his palm with a broken glass. He sat on the floor and let Wen Qing pick shards out of his skin for twenty-five minutes, and joked and teased the entire time.

“Okay,” Wei Wuxian says. “I’m ready.”

It’s a bad hour, as Wen Qing pulls the bullet from his thigh and then puts two stitches in the hole. Wei Wuxian doesn’t scream, doesn’t cry, just takes shallow, shuddering breaths and doesn’t move. Sometimes he even laughs, a ragged sound of apparently genuine amusement when A-Ning wonders aloud if Jiang Yanli is going to kill them before Wen Qing gets the chance, and a bark of vicious humor when Nie Huaisang reports that their target’s been arrested on more fraud charges than you could shake a stick at.

“We’re not telling A-Li,” Wei Wuxian says when Wen Qing finally tapes down gauze and collects her bloodied tools into the emptied water bowl. “She’ll come look sad at me.”

Wen Qing summarily ignores him. Instead, she looks at Lan Wangji, who looks nearly as shaken as Wei Wuxian. He’s not holding him down anymore, but his hands are still resting on those stiff shoulders, a thumb smoothing over the skin at the nape of Wei Wuxian’s neck just above his collar. Wei Wuxian’s head tips a little toward that side, resting lightly on Lan Wangji’s forearm without apparent concern for the blood on the hitter’s wrist. Maybe Wei Wuxian’s, maybe whoever got to experience the pleasure of being punched by one of the Twin Jades.

“Don’t let him do anything stupid,” Wen Qing tells Lan Wangji firmly. "I can get him antibiotics--you are taking them, Wei Wuxian--but I’m not getting him painkillers, because the second he feels okay he’s going to get A-Ning to teach him to free climb a building or something, and A-Ning is going to do it because I raised him terribly, I guess.”

“Hey,” A-Ning says.

“Tell me I’m wrong.”

“I will keep Wei Ying from doing anything stupid,” Lan Wangji recites obediently, and goes up a few notches in Wen Qing’s estimation.

“We’ll get out of your hair, Qing-jie,” Wei Wuxian says, stirring like he’s going to get up, and Wen Qing stands and sighs and scowls, and peels off her gloves to make a neat little ball of latex in one palm, all the blood concealed inside.

“You can stay here,” she says. “You can take A-Ning’s room and he’ll sleep on the couch. Everyone else, you have to get out unless you want to sleep on the floor, though,” she adds, pointing to the two in her living room.

“I will stay,” Lan Wangji says.

“Yeah,” Wen Qing says, already distracted by the odds of being able to find a pharmacy open at this hour. “A-Ning has a full, you’ll fit.” Wei Wuxian makes a choking noise, which she ignores. “I’m going out to get ahold of some meds for you. Don’t do anything stupid, and lock up if anyone leaves. A-Ning, don’t let this idiot leave.”

“I won’t, A-jie,” A-Ning says obediently, and Wen Qing stomps into her bedroom to change into something not speckled with blood.

I’ve been playing Pokemon Legends Arceus, and then gremlin brain came in and was like “hey, combine this with your current special interest” and I did. and then i was also like “oh fuck i’ve been neglecting xisang my boys shit”

Pokemon AU but it has PLA flavor added.

spoilers for the general premise of PLA.

So NHS gets isekai-ed into the past, and lands in Gusu.

So NHS didn’t have much going for him back home, he was an only child which was bullshit because he has such baby brother energy. “that doesn’t sound right OP, I distinctly remember him having a brother” shhhh

Pokemon Professor Lan Qiren sees this kid fall out of the sky and is like “What the fuck?” He’s busy trying to catch his pokemon, he doesn’t have time for this.

Then NHS walks right up to Rowlet and picks him up and buries his face in this bird. LQR takes him in because this boy is going to get killed if he doesn’t step in. Rowlet decides he likes NHS and allows the babying.

Now LWJ is off doing his Hanguang Jun thing in the wild, so LXC is the one who gets to meet NHS and show him around. LXC is in awe of the fact that this boy was able to get Rowlet to love him. Since LXC doesn’t have his own brother around to dote on, he dotes on NHS. And then he starts really doting on NHS.

So NHS is part of the Cloud Recesses Expedition team, which is really just an excuse for NHS to get so many birds.

So they hit up Qinghe, and meet LXC’s homie, NMJ. NMJ takes one look at NHS and is like “is anyone going to be a brotherly and reluctantly fatherly figure in this guy’s life?” and didn’t wait for anyone to answer.

I gave him a Luxray because i couldn’t think that hard about a perfect pokemon for him, but friend mars said Kengaskhan was his spirit pokemon and she was of course right about that and is very tall and handsome.

since he didn’t have a little brother, he didn’t have a second mom, so Kengaskhan.

AU lore, Jin Sect's got the money and they have stuff but they're all a little too shiny and pretty to actually catch pokemon. JZXuan is the only person in the main family that has his own dog that respects him because he caught him. JGY showed up already having a pokemon. MXY, a baby, has a Mudbray. LTF has a mudkip because mudkip is my favorite. Nie Sect values a strong bond with pokemon and training is a big part of Nie Sect life. if you can't wrestle a bear, then by the end of your visit with NMJ, you will. Jiang sect is real big on testing the limits of a pokemon and their partner. water pokemon. JC has like 6 joltiks since he can't have dog shaped pokemon, all from YZY's galvantula. JYL gets a milotic because uhhhh, pretty water pokeyman. WWX, ghost pokemon trainer. Lan Sect wants to know what the fuck is going on with pokemon, how do they work and how do we befriend them? LXC has a pacharisu that hates his guts because i thought it was funny at 4am and it stuck. LWJ is out on his pokemon journey, going where the chaos is. WWX is the chaos, man is so good at pokemon. LQR has a drampa. Wen Sect is the Jin Sect run down but on x-games mode. NHS, local isekai protag, is wondering how hard he can girlboss gatekeep there isn't a third one this place. all bird team.

anyway, from then on, it gets a little less xisang and more “haha, mdzs au” but that’s just cause i’m fleshing out the universe so that xisang make out all over it.

So in the Jin Sect, it’s pretty normal to hire someone else to catch a pokemon for you. JZXuan however was like, “fuck that” and went out on his own and nearly got mauled, but he made it out with a shiny growlith, and their bond is so fucking good.

JZXun however could not catch his own pokemon. he hired someone to get him a shiny poochyena, and like. it follows directions but their bond is not strong.

WWX has a phantump that he caught when he was young. It was his first pokemon and his baby. Unfortunately for the baby, when JFM asked him what he was going to name his baby, WWX was like “eh, whatever” because like his mother before him, he was just going to end up calling him his baby forever anyway. So Subian the phantump is WWX’s closest friend.

Now this is a happy au. No major character death. So Sunshot. no big downers.

So why and how does WC shove WWX into the Burial Mounds? Well.

so WWX is shoved into the burial mounds, and WC takes Subian which acts as a “trade” and Subian evolves into a Trevenant and gets super fucking pissed off, going on a rampage.

It does not calm down until WWX shows back up, alive because a ghost horse found him and didn’t stomp him to death. Horse is Chenqing.

And uh. Subian takes a liking to A-Yuan when he shows up, because he understands that they are both just scared children left behind to face the world. the key difference is that WWX had found him sooner.

So, today in the "AUs no one asked for, but nevertheless bring me joy and delight", I am happy to bring you my version of MDZS/The Untamed Ice Skating AU.

My endgames, so far, are Wangxian, Sangcheng, Xiyao and Xuanli, we will see how things pan out though.

So.

The Jiangs are a family of ice skaters. JYL, JC and WWX do have a lot of brotherly love for each other, but JFM and YZY are being overall bad at parenting.

WWX is adopted and he is basically JFM's fav, which makes YZY so very mad, bc they have their own son, so there is drama around that.

The Jins are ice skaters too, actually JYL is skating in couple with JZX because Madam Jin and Madam Yu wanted it.

They separate for a while, there will be more drama and then after the double divorce of JFM and YZY and JGS and Madam Jin the two get back together much to the dismay of JC and WWX, who were happy to get rid of the Peacock.

The Lans are ice skaters too and WWX and LWJ fall in love at first sight during a competition.

I don't know yet how to make it work, but Wangxian will become the first male/male ice skating couple and they will skate off into the sunset with Wangxian.mp3 in background.

JC post-parents divorce decides to stop competing, bc listen, he has had 3 mental breakdowns and several depression and anxiety issues and someone suggests that most probably he should not be competing.

Fine, ok, Yanli and Wei Wuxian are already doing the thing, no one ever cared and expected much from him, so as an act of self care he leaves competition and starts teaching ice skating to kids. Bc whilst JC is an absolute disaster in relationships, all kids appear to cling on him for some unknown reason.

At this point in time the local ice hockey team lead by Nie Mingjue has to borrow the rink where JC is teaching, bc the rival team of the Wens has invaded and called dibs on the Nie one.

Whilst NMJ is training, his brother NHS is watching JC glide gracefully on the ice like 👀👀👀👀

NHS will find every excuse he can to just look at JC, whilst NMJ shouts: you BRAT, come and TRAIN WITH THE TEAM, you are in an ICE HOCKEY TEAM. 🤬

NHS : just a sec bro, I am just studying something here.

NMJ : I tell you, you are studying JC's ass and if you do not come here immediately you can say goodbye forever to your fan collection, BRAT.

Drama and awkwardness ensues.

In the meantime LXC is attending some ballet classes to help himself with ice skating and it just happens that there is this really graceful and beautiful student, who introduced himself as meng Yao and lxc is weak for dimples.

So far this is what I am thinking. I will add stuff as I elaborate.

I'm in love with the way you make your works cathartic yet believable! So I wanted to ask. Do you think there's a way to make Sunshot Campaign era "MDZS chars watching MDZS" fic not cringe? The ones I've read seem way too fake and theatrical and never take in an account characters' personalities, ambitions and motivations. Yet, I feel that such a story can be an interesting read if done right. What are your thoughts?

I believe there is a way to do it. If writers are careful and plan well, it is possible to make things realistic. But I believe these kinds of fics are difficult to write. There are multiple POVs and different motivations and personalities involved, as you mentioned already.

I think it is best to limit the number of characters involved and limit the number of POVs in the fic.

And I would probably decide what my end goal is. I believe that WWX's journey during SSC and post SSC won't have much of an emotional impact on most characters outside LWJ, WN, JYL, and WQ. Maybe LXC, NHS, and NMJ would be influenced to. But outside them, most people will unaffected. JC would even twist it into something else, making a bad situation worse.

And since WWX's issues aren't the kind that can waves away easily, I don't know how much would change and if the situation would become worse.

Interesting to explore but sorta difficult to write.

I know this fic was part of a series. Everyone seems to be a little darker than cannon. This particular fic was WWX and LZ during the sunshot campaign.

LZ and the Lans he was leading were trapped/ambushed in a forest. NMJ could not spare the men to rescue them. WWX goes to rescue him anyway. Between him and LZ they kill all the Wen in that forest. I remember LZ feeling he was not the right person to lead/be responsible for others in combat. He knew he was given the role solely on his status.

I'd argue JC could place higher RE: cabbage math because he pulled the sect together pretty fast which implies a great grasp of logistics and knowledge about where money comes from. On the other hand he might just be a fast learner because he's only allowed to be better than WWX at things no one celebrates. No one's whooping and hollering over Jiang zongzhu's impeccable filing system. Or maybe the Jiang sect accountant was on vacation when the Wens attacked

hear me out, it's about when you assess their cabbage appraising abilities. but i will explain myself.

Alphabetical Cabbage Appraisal over Time: (↑ - increase; Ø - no change; ↓ - decrease)

jc [↑↑↑] - the man, the point of contention: i posit that mme yu controlled the lotus pier budget with an iron fist (she seems like a micromanager) thus jc didn't learn until too late. i also agree that jc can only be good at things that nobody gives a shit about (bc they're basic bitches; a great filing system is sexy af okay). he had to learn fast after the fall of lotus pier, and their accountant also ate sand during the siege.

jyl [↑] - once lotus pier was hit, no more cabbage discount. she learned a lot during the war, and never forgot it

(good) jzx [↑] - improves a bit bc he basically flips the bird to his dad and goes to war, so he has to feed his people. but in dbd, it's something he now actively studies in case zyx throws another 'price is right' pop quiz at him like in ch 7

(bad) jzx [Ø] - no impetus to change, actively rejects the price of cabbages when it is presented to him. in fact, i can see him being picky about food when he joins his cousin in the war. or he's never sent on supply runs

There are some things that make me lose interest in a mdzs fanfiction immediately:

- LWJ being Chief Cultivator

- The concept of LWJ and WWX getting together in a post-canon story. The reason they didn't was because of censorship, but you could read the novel If you wanted to see them get together

- Xue Yang working to Wen Sect, Yin Iron, or anything that links demonic cultivation to the Wen Sect. WRH did not need demonic cultivation to be a villain. He was a villain because he tought he was superior to other people and felt entitled to impose It upon other people. No need for Evil Rock

- LQY being from the Jin Sect. I think novel!LQY is far more badass than cql!LQY, so I lose interest in her when I see she's not novel!LQY

- WWX intelligence, Power, skills and competence being downplayed. He's a genious, a prodigy, the only in their generation that could match the twin jades

- WWX apologizing to JC, for what? Risking everything he had to save Innocent lifes? Lifes that JC killed? Killing JZX? It was hardly his fault. Killing JYL? He didn't. Not telling JC the truth? The only thing he hid was the Golden core issue, JC knew fully well why he left the Sect

- Implying that YZY and JFM' marriage would be well If only WWX wasn't there. It was already a mess before. JFM never wanted to marry her. And not letting your friends' child starve on the streets shouldn't be something that destroys your marriages

- WWX not being the one who invented demonic cultivation

- Stories where WWX was "destined" to invent demonic cultivation. Yes, from a narrative point of view, he was going to, because we start the novel when he already did, and then we are showed his path to invent demonic cultivation. And yes, he already thinking about that, but it only gives him more agency than Evil Sword whispering to him, not less. And yes, circunstances outside his control pushed him to It, otherwise it would remain just a theory, but no one in his place would have done it. WWX wasn't the founder of demonic cultivation for destiny or chance. The merit was his, not anything else's

- Fics who say that, If only WWX had told someone that the Wen with him were elders and a child, not fighters, everything would be ok, Implying is his fault for not doing this. I do think LXC and NMJ, If confronted with enough evidence, woudn't let innocents die because of their surname. But WWX told them. He told everyone the Jin took someone innocent, they all choose to ignore, choose to not believe him and not even investigate

ep23 (pt 2): I think I'm a lxc hater now

in the book, I don't think this conversation happens. all the sects are equally guilty of the atrocities that are to come. but this scene establishes lxc and nmj as Good guys, if a bit misguided. the cruelties we see later are all that evil jgs and jgy's doing

I actually don't care about this change because I don't hold the moral ambiguity or the original purpose of the novel sacred, but this scene does make me want to weep because it didn't HAVE to be this way!! lxc and nmj could have pushed a little harder, questioned a little more, overseen the process more responsibly!! they were not advocating for genocide!! they were LEADERS they could have done something!

it's bc he cares about jgy too much on a personal level to doubt him now. also he's guided by his desires - he WANTS to believe in jgy since he already cares about him

this scene is so fucking chilling

like bar none this is one of the most disturbing scenes in the show. heavy-handed and unsubtle it may be, but it's sure as hell effective. and it somehow manages to not make the people murdering innocent civilians the real victims here. I hate american war films. don't watch oppenheimer

also, I don't think that's a-yuan. too big. but god, isn''t that what he wears? there may be only one child in this entire sect

this shot lingers on lwj way longer than it lingers on wwx, who gets to work playing cleansing immediately for the souls of the recently murdered. what's lwj thinking? is he taken aback by what they just saw in ways wwx is too jaded to be? is he starting to get concerned about the power of the jins? is he taking a moment to honor the dead?

I really like this shot! it's lovely and symmetrical

this is also kind of ghastly. once they killed or captured the wens, they move into their seat of power and demonstrate their command over it

jyl's dress is GORGEOUS

there are female cultivators in the first row. how about that!

all the jiangs are wearing white sashes in mourning

jgs has just lamented the fact that he and jfm are now 'separated by death'

he's stepped forward to clap jc on the shoulder in a very awkward paternal gesture he probably meant to be encouraging, but given that jc had probably never had that interaction from his real father, perhaps he has only confused and frightened him

jgy doesn't quite get happy when this is announced, but he does get more eager and attentive, in the way that I associate with dogs whose names are called

hey! the first line for lan cultivators are women too!

and then there's this entire conversation happening. lwj does that thing where he looks at wwx meaningfully then casts his eyes down (happens ALL the time) as he retreats from whatever situation he's found himself in and declines to speak. wwx looks like he wants to say something and is interrupted

AND THE SAME FOR THE NIES. all the sects said we have exactly four female cultivators and they WILL be up front. wait the nies may have 6. cannot tell

jgy needing this reminder? don't buy it. he's too smart. I do not believe he genuinely forgot. in fact, iirc he has photographic memory and that's why he was able to send map info so well. I do not trust him!! this is definitely another ploy to look hapless and humble to lxc, his protector, and the others, his enemies

ppl have said lwj tossing his hair behind him here is wyb breaking character. I say why can't lwj be a little fussy and dramatic about his hair

he is also sitting completely alone in a corner by himself hashtag autistic icon

hate to say it but sect leader yao is KILLING in those robes. what a gorgeous color

and of course fucking jgs comes in propping himself up as the new head of the sects, sitting there to make a grand declaration. citing his long friendship with jfm, his desire to look after jfm's daughter, etc. etc., cultivators and sect leaders seem to really like jgs and I assume he must be personally quite charismatic because he is a sack of shit as we well know. now there is a character easily transferred to a modern AU. lecherous, misogynistic, popular, and power-hungry rich old men who are heads of organizations are very common today as well

look how concerned jyl looks! she doesn't want to be forced into making a decision this soon or this publicly, especially not when their political situation is so tenuous

jc is actually doing pretty well as a tactful sect leader in this episode, appropriately humble and polite while maintaining the air of dignity he needs to. and this is good thinking from him, just not fast enough. wwx is about to barge in dramatically to solve their problems, as he is wont to do, but the episode ends here on a very strange cliffhanger

thank you to everyone who answered my question about the Sunshot Campaign ... the general consensus seemed to be “eh probably not but through fanfic all things are possible” lmao

now as to why I was asking ... I’ve been working on the outline of the Mingli fic and am running into a dilemma

the whole first part is fun school shenanigans, which, okay, isn’t really different from the series itself, and I thought about just stopping it there but that leaves kind of an ominous “but we all know the Sunshot Campaign is coming” feeling ... like, yay, everyone’s happy, but storm clouds are on the horizon ... which isn’t really the way I want to end a fic

so that leaves me with three basic choices

say ‘fuck it, this is one of those universes where the Wens aren’t evil because I don’t feel like dealing with it’

I did this in An Atypical Courtship and nobody seemed to mind

this also gives me the bonus of that I could have Wen Qing and Wen Ning at the lectures in The Unclean Realm, which I can’t have otherwise since the Nie and the Wen hate each other

but it also cuts out some of the fun I could have later, like at the banquet with JGS trying to put the engagement back on and JYL being like “um, I think my husband might object”, as well as JYL insisting that WQ be allowed to come to The Unclean Realm and be NMJ’s doctor to help him prevent qi deviation

have the fic proceed through the Sunshot Campaign basically with a parallel to canon

this is marginally difficult because if the lectures aren’t at Cloud Recesses then I don’t get LWJ and WWX pulled into the cave together

additionally, WWX wouldn’t meet WQ and WN at the lectures

so okay, I could stray more into book canon here, have WN’s motivation for helping WWX be solely that WWX was nice to him that one time at an archery tournament, and maybe even say ‘fuck it’ to the yin iron in general because it’s not really necessary to the plot

smaller additional problem is that the stuff that happens in the first half of the fic will prevent NMJ and Meng Yao’s messy divorce, but I’ve gotten around that before and I can get around it again

the real reason I’m not wholly thrilled with this option is really just because I’ve already written so many fics centered around stuff that happened during The Sunshot Campaign, it’s honestly a little boring ... WWX lost his golden core again, oop

I could skip over it entirely and just give a brief summary but that seems kind of cheap

the last option is that I could use the changes in the first half of fic to dramatically change the trajectory of the Sunshot Campaign

the first thought I had was that JC could go to Qinghe for help, instead of Lanling, while WWX and LWJ are trapped in the cave of Xuanwu, and then NMJ could actually escort them back to Yunmeng (as an excuse to visit JYL) and he would actually be there during the Wen’s attack on Lotus Pier - LWJ could be there, too, because NMJ would pretty easily persuade him to travel together, maybe send a message to LXC, who’s currently on the run/hiding out with MY, to all regroup together at Lotus Pier

Canonically, WZL can fight both YZY and NMJ to a draw, but could he fight both of them together to a draw? Doubtful

But then I started asking, if I prevent the sacking of Lotus Pier, JC keeps his core, WWX doesn’t end up in The Burial Mounds - is the war against the Wen sect even winnable at that point?

So it’s like, on the one hand, this is way more interesting than yet another ‘and then poor WWX got fucked over six ways from Sunday’ (if nothing else, imagine LWJ being there when YZY is like ‘I’m going to cut off WWX’s hand’)

But on the other hand, it might end with everyone getting murdered and the Wen sect overrunning the world

Or if I do find a way to win The Sunshot Campaign, I have a different problem, which is that if the sacking of Lotus Pier doesn’t happen, the Yunmeng trio don’t end up sheltering with Wen Qing and Wen Ning, so there’s no reason they would be spared later, which makes me sad

tl;dr I can’t decide where the eff I want this fic to go

in an attempt to get myself thinking about cql again, i tried combining it with my current other hyperfixation by generating a figure skating au and i’m SCREAMING thinking about this

i’m just going to stream-of-consciousness all of my ideas into this post because these ideas are so good i am going INSANE

- wwx inspired by kostornaia my beloved — strong skating skills base (because of his parents, then after his parents die he goes to jiang fengmians skating school which puts him in competitive contention. ) jumps are decent but a bit all over the place bc coaches don’t prioritise him, incredible performance charisma, endearing personality but undervalued by federation + school

- wwx could do kostotwilight. and he would. the mental image of wwx doing the twilight ending pose has been haunting me ALL DAY. wwx could do harley quinn. he could do new york new york. he could do departure. tell me i’m WRONG

- i don’t have a solid inspo for lwj but he’s DEFINITELY like those male skaters with the THICK thighs and gorgeous knee bend. i’m picturing glittery outfits, lyrical programmes, strong ss. but maybe low on interpretation. anyway he and wwx are rivals for gold whenever they compete. when wwx drops out he’s undeniable gold.

- lxc style inspired by yuna kim. the excellent all-rounder but kind of quiet/detached from it all. retires after 2 olympics and considered undeniable goat but also out of the competitive scene — on that note, nmj as mao asada??? contemporary and rival with yuna kim, less consistent and less perfect technique, but with higher value jumps and keeps going at it for longer

- i pictured a twin jades side-by-side cantilever and almost burst into tears on the street. like lan brothers would defo have strong core focus stunts. cantilevers. spirals. spread eagles. their edges are so deep i am sweating.

- anyway jiang cheng having a sort of sasha trusova/nathan chen ferocity, strong jumper but ALL over the place, skating skills not too strong but it’s something he wants to work on. later in his career his costumes become increasingly sparkly and scary looking

- jiang yanli/jin zixuan as chock/bates, this one had me cracked up ALL morning,,, nepotism babies, jyl as madison chock aka pretty and girlboss but CANNOT skate, jzx the stronger skater but simps for jyl. fans hate them for being overscored but nobody dares to say anything bc all their fave skaters ADORE jyl. diana davis energy tbh.

- yunmeng trio doing sbs axel jumps like yuzu with virtuemoir……..

- SIDENOTE that video of sasha trusova at rusnats jumping up and down and around diana davis before grabbing her for hugs is wwx with lwj.

- ON THAT NOTE, wq/wn as sui/han. just because i need wen ning to lift wwx like evan bates lifted yuzuru hanyu. lwj is seething with jealousy.

- nie huaisang as satoko miyahara. best costumes and performance and pcs but criminally underscored and overlooked. no da-ge i will NOT fix my jumps :)

- wwx and nhs doing kaori and mai’s besties programme…….

- i actually have a whole plot for this already fully formed PLEASE i don’t know what to do with it???? i’m driving myself INSANE

- i don’t know even know if writing it would be worth it because i don’t know if i can convey the pure emotion that comes with WATCHING skating and attaching my affection for these characters TO such a moment

- like bro imagine wwx hitting that long spiral. like. with the lights. the music beats. i don’t know how to explain this i’m HYSTERICAL. i could supply gifs but it would not convey the experience.

- i can’t keep doing this i’ve driven myself insane over this dumb au that i don’t even know what to do with please send help or suggestions

(1/12) So a while ago I *think* someone on your blog brought up an idea making JYL take sides in a post-SSC AU where neither JC nor WWX lost their cores, WWX wanted to marry LWJ, and JC refused. I've been thinking about this in more detail, and I am very unlikely to write it, but I still wanted my thoughts to be Out There (and I don't do twitter so I can't make it a twitter fic), and I hoped you would enjoy the idea as well.

(2/12) Wen remnants are not an issue bc idk since JC didn't get captured and lose his core, WN couldn't have connected with WWX in the aftermath of that, so he tries helping WWX in a different way that ends up with WQ going with him, her branch splitting off and fighting with the SSC, and the sects agreeing to (and actually doing so, supported by both LXC and NMJ) leave them alone afterwards.

(3/12) Post-war, JYL married JZX, leaving WWX and JC alone together. WWX starts night-hunting a lot bc he finds he doesn't actually want to spend that much time with JC without a buffer. He ends up teaming up with LWJ a lot, who still goes where the chaos is, and obviously falls in love with him. They confess, are very happy, and go to LXC, who is very happy.

(4/12) Then LXC approaches JC about a marriage. JC is not happy. JC is like, they're both men! you think that's acceptable? no. and even if it were acceptable, WWX is my 2IC, I need him here. if he wants to get married, I can find him a woman who will stay with the Jiang.

(5/12) LXC is a little shellshocked, goes to tell WWX and LWJ what happened. WWX goes to ask JC what the fuck. JC goes off on a rant, tells WWX he promised to stand by him so he has to stay *home*, with JC. he's not allowed to just *leave*. does he seriously want to abandon the sect that took him in off the streets and raised him and taught him?

(6/12) and what, does he think LWJ will be willing to marry into the Jiang, for *WWX*? the Lans would never go for their sect heir leaving the sect to marry someone of lesser status. and besides, Lotus Pier is still rebuilding, so the Jiang wouldn't be able to put together a proper bride price for the second jade of Lan. it's not going to happen.

(7/12) WWX, depressed, goes to JYL for comfort. JYL is shocked at JC's decision but not sure how to handle it. JZX very awkwardly tries to comfort WWX, starts establishing himself as best brother. Eventually WWX goes back to Lotus Pier because he *is* loyal, but he's torn between nighthunting and maybe encountering LWJ again, which would be painful, or staying in Lotus Pier with JC, which is also painful.

(8/12) They stay in this holding pattern for a while until the next discussion conference, when LQR corners WWX to be angry at him for breaking LWJ's heart. WWX, depressed and angry himself but still polite because he *doesn't* badmouth JC in public, explains that his sect leader is unable to spare him and they could not ask the Lan to spare LWJ, everything JC ranted to him about, etc.

(9/12) LQR, who had basically convinced himself that JC would only have said no if WWX hadn't actually wanted the marriage (because why the hell else would he turn down a great match and good alliance like that) and that WWX had just been playing with LWJ, is shocked. he can see really clearly that WWX is miserable but filial, and JC really is the problem here. LQR now respects WWX's filial piety, is angry that he respects anything about WWX, and still wants to make his nephew happy.

(10/12) Cue a pro-marriage conspiracy. JYL has been writing back and forth with LXC about options, so LQR joins their discussions. NHS, who heard about what happened and likes WWX way more than JC, invites himself along. JZX offers the support of the Jin, because he's finding he likes one BIL much better than the other (and JGS is out of the picture somehow; maybe JGY got fed up and murdered him already) and it would make JYL happy if WWX were happy.

(11/12) So while LWJ is miserably fighting chaos somewhere and WWX goes to visit the Wens and daydream about him and LWJ adopting a-Yuan and giving him a good future, everyone else goes to confront JC. LQR emphasizes the match and the alliance, JZX agrees it would be good for Lotus Pier and the post-SSC political landscape generally.

(12/12) NHS pokes at JC's insecurities and is like, WWX is indispensable here? you are incapable of functioning without him? and by the way, that promise you want to hold him to -- didn't he say that he would support you like his father did yours? didn't his father *also* leave to get married? and the whole time, JYL is sitting there, very obviously taking WWX's side. JC caves, because of course he does. WWX and LWJ get to get married and adopt a-Yuan and WWX only rarely has to see JC again.

Oh, that’s fun. I especially like the bit where NHS uses JC’s pride against him by pointedly calling him out on being incapable of functioning without WWX. Very good politicking. I’m imagining NHS with all wide-eyed innocence just being like “Oh? You truly can’t manage without WWX’s help? Weren’t you trained to run a sect? Can’t you find a new second-in-command for the sake of your brother’s happiness?” and basically just pushing and pushing until JC has to either let WWX go or admit that he’s incapable of doing his job without a loyal mega-genius doing most of the work for him.
