Another night. More dead ends.

You sighed, rubbing the tiredness out of your eyes. Looking at the same blank papers and getting the same stupid calls was draining the life out of you.

Every day, the same routine. You would get a call-- someone who thinks they know who's done it. They don't, really, in the end, and when you go to check it out, there's nothing.

Nothing. Always nothing.

Then, there were the sympathizers. Honestly, they were almost worse. The ones who told you all about how great of a woman your mother was. All the moments you could have seen, but missed. All the moments you should have shared. Their experiences-- which could have been yours.

But they weren't. And you would never get the chance again.

You understood they all had good intentions. They wanted to ease your burden. Share your pain. But with every trip, every false call, the bags under your eyes got darker. With every well meaning word and kind stranger, the tears threatened to spill over.

Tired. Numb. Scared. You didn't know what you felt more of right now, and you wished you could rub the problems away as you tried to make your vision less blurry.

You registered a sharp, shooting pain in your head, and sighed. Another headache. Another sleepless night. Another dead end.

You looked up, scouring the room for the Tylenol you had bought. Another belated realization-- you had just finished it all yesterday.

You buried your face into your hands, wishing you could just disappear. This headache was a little more painful than usual. Usually, its at and throbbed for a while and left, but this one spiked at your skull and back.

You could feel your vision shaking-- no, it wasn't your vision, it was your body. You know this feeling too well. When you were too tired, your body shook. You hated the feeling of losing control of your body, but you were starting to get much too used to it.

You lay on the bed, hoping that if you closed your eyes, maybe the pain would go away.

10 minutes. The throbbing was the same.

20 minutes. You were losing your mind.

30 minutes. You couldn't take it anymore!

You moved to the phone, typing in their number without even really registering it. You weren't sure if you liked how vulnerable you were allowing yourself to be-- but right now, all that mattered was getting rid of this damn headache!

Their cheery voice greeted you, and although the sound grated at your ears, you had never been more happy to hear it.

"N," You interrupted them. "Please, can you bring me some Tylenol? My head is killing me."

A pause. Then, simply, “Right away, sweetheart.”

With that, the call was done. You lied down on the bed, hoping they would come soon. Their hotel room was the floor under yours, since there wasn’t many available. 

A few minutes later, a knock at the door.

“The door is open,” You called out. 

Unlike their usual boisterous entrance, they swung the door open slowly and quietly and came over to you without making too much noise.

You noticed a water bottle in their hand, and gave them a smile of gratitude. You could always count on them.

You sat up, putting the pill into your mouth and gulping it down with the water. They watched you take it, not making a sound. 

“What time did you go to sleep, Y/N?” Their voice was low, and although their voice was kind, you felt as if you were getting scolded.

“I... didn’t.” You couldn’t find it in you to lie. You didn’t know if it was the drowsiness or just their presence-- it was always such a breath of relief to be around them.

Hopefully, just the drowsiness. You didn’t want to get more attached than you already were.

“I don’t think you need me to tell you all the reasons it’s bad for you to not get sleep. You’re smarter than that.” They gave you a smile. “I wouldn’t mind telling you, though.”

Your lips quirked upward. “Alright, really trying to rub in that you’re a medical professional, I see your bragging.” A thought occurred to you then. “Hey, why are you awake right now? It’s 3 in the morning!”

“I’m a light sleeper,” They said, but you knew they were lying. They were so honest, usually-- and you could always see the ingenuity in their eyes. When they lied, they turned their shoulders slightly away from you, averted their eyes.

Whatever. You shouldn’t pry. It’s not your place.

The pain was subsiding, just by a bit. You decided you could probably work again now that the pain was calming down.

You grabbed for your phone on your nightstand, just beside the bed, and they watched you pick the phone up. You turned it on-- the light hurt, much more than it should, and the medicine felt like you had never taken it in the first place.

But it didn’t matter. That didn’t matter. Pain could go away. This-- this sense of uselessness-- it wasn’t leaving.

“Y/N.” They tilted your head up to look at them. “This isn’t healthy.”

Words. Where were your words? Why did you always lose them when you looked into those beautiful brown eyes?

“I- I haven’t made any progress, N.” You hope they couldn’t hear the cracking of your voice. 

“Every step forward is a step in the right direction, sweetheart. It might not feel like it, but if you’re trying, you can do it.” They brought the hand away from your phone and up to cup your face, looking at you more intensely than you’ve seen ever seen them. “But you can’t try unless you give it your all-- and you can’t give it your all unless you have energy. You’re killing yourself, here, and I can’t just stand and watch you.”

Speechless. Always speechless. You could never muster up the right words around them.

“I don’t know what to do,” You whispered. “I don’t know. I don’t know.”

They pulled you toward their chest, holding you close. “You don’t always have to. Life isn’t about having all the answers. You’re only human, Y/N.” They ran their fingers slowly through your hair. “Just one step at a time, okay? Every step forward is progress.”

You always thought that phrase of theirs was a bit silly, but now you found comfort in it. It was so much a part of them... and they were almost a part of y

“Thank you,” You whispered. “Thank you for everything.”

“No problem, sweetheart,” They hummed it onto your hair, and moved your head towards their shoulders. A small sign of peace-- their way of saying you could rely on them, through their small actions.

You were more than happy to move towards their shoulder. It was more comfortable than you were expecting. Or, alternatively, you were much too tired to think, and everything felt comfortable when you were near them.

“Sleep.” A small command. You wouldn’t have argued anyway. 

Roses. They smelled like roses. You thought that in this moment, it might just be your favorite flower. 

With the thought of intricate petals and a field of thorns on your mind, you were pulled into sleep-- maybe the best one in a few days.

I'm going to assume the ROs are the partner for this one!

Hannie obviously starts teasing. Figures that this would be a good chance to see what MC thinks of them. Grills them for information... "What's your partner like? Are they pretty?" Records all the simping you do and shows it to you the next morning. Keeps that video to look at when they can't see you.

N would mess with you a little, cuz they know you'll probably be too drunk to remember it awterward. "You need to let go, MC. They've been dead for four years. Your alcoholism has gone too far. Let them go and we can all move on with our lives, MC." They are a very convincing actor.

Oli would be like 'I AM your partner. I'm driving you, dummy." They're the responsible mom friend since they can't really take alcohol well. Listens to your drunken rambling and uses their Cop Strength™ to lift you into their arms bridal style if you still refuse to stop drinking. You'll probably recognize them a little by that point-- there's no mistaking those biceps. They've got the best muscles of ALL the ROs.

Loves graphic design. Sucks at it. Or maybe they’re purposely bad, I don’t know, but every single design they try to make looks comedically bad.

Very nice calves. Who knows how they got it. All anyone knows is before they went to clown school they had normal calves and once they got out of clown school they had good calves. What happened in clown school? They never elaborate

They are trying to become a doctor, because your deceased mother inspired them to go into it. They’re doing their residency right now, and are very very good at medicine. 

Loves partying. A definite extrovert. Can befriend and charm the pants off of anyone.

Naasir doesn’t mind wearing skirts-- they both have a great fashion sense full of bright colours.

Horrible at video games, loves playing them.

MC gets up in the night for some reason and when they come back to bed, they give the snoozing ROs a lil smooch on the forehead b/c they think the RO is asleep (but they aren’t). How do the ROs react?

Hannie blinks their eyes open sleepily, and give you a sleepy little smile. "If you wanted to kiss me, you just have to ask." Is very teasing about it, but they won't admit that they're really quite touched.

N puckers up their lips like a comic sleeping beauty. "Kiss me again!"

Oli will not even realize the implication of what happened. They're in a whole other dimension at night. They might be awake, but they're mostly asleep. Just greets you with a 'Oh, hello there', and goes straight back to sleep. Remembers it later in the day and totally panics. Wishes you would do it again and that they would've been smoother about it.

I do like angst so what about the same bottle game and crushing state… but the bottle landed right next to them so they have to watch MC kiss someone else so close to them? 👀

This would literally be torture for all of them:

Oli, for the fact they've been friends with you for so long and have had feelings for you for so long, and they always get so close but they're still so far away. Would probably have to leave the room because honestly, if you're playing the spin the botte game, you're all probably drunk, and they know they'll cry if they stay any longer. They'll curse themselves for getting so emotional on a game where this obviously would've happened sooner or later. Might give you the silent treatment.

Hannie would also have more or less the same feeling. To overcome that rivalry, tha barrier between you, has always been their goal. They could almost see the wall that was built between you, and they hated it. They wanted you to notice them-- to truly notice them, to look at them while they tried to climb over that stupid godforsaken wall. This felt like the wall was growing bigger, that more distance was being placed between you. Would sit and watch with an impassive face, looking wuite bored, but if you looked at their hands, they would be white knuckled, balled into fists on their lap.

N has been in many bad relationships before, where they gave their all but the other person refused to reciprocate. To see you get kissed by someone else when they were so close to having that chance themselves would be like a slap in the face. They would feel so stupid for hoping, and they would feel even more stupid for being so eager, even though they knew that putting too much hope into something always got them hurt. One of their previous partners had even said it-- they were stupid for being so eager, to always make an effort-- and it would really remind them of that in the moment. They would also leave the room, they might even leave the party.

How the LIs would react if they were in the bottle game and it stopped at mc. This is in the strong crush stage but they are not together yet.

Oli would be flushed, a nervous smile stretching across their face that almost looks like a grimace. Was hoping it would land on you, but was praying it wouldn't. Feels like running away from the awkward scene (honestly, I can picture them running away 'to get some water' and then coming back after hyping themselves up in the mirror). Will kiss you stiffly because even though they've kissed someone before, they don't really have a lot of experience! Once it's over, will probably think about it forever, and have a giddy smile on their face for the rest of the day.

Hannie would seem completely cool with it on the outside-- they're all smirks and teasing smiles, baiting you. But on the inside, their heart is beating faster than they would like, and they have a suspicion their cheeks are tinted red (they're not). Wants to impress you, leave you wanting more, so will give you a very good but short kiss. Would probably want to stop the game there-- they don't want to admit it, but they don't want anyone else kissing you. Will think about other ways to hang out with you, maybe to talk about what happened. Will confess to you soon after.

N is all confidence. They're a party animal-- they'll really make a show out of kissing you (only if you're comfortable with it!). Wants to remember every part of the kiss, because they don't know if you'll want to kiss them again. Really will be the last straw for the crushing stage-- might tell you they like you right there and then.

Oli: Clumsy. Not sure how much of themselves to put into it. Wants to show you just how much they care, but doesn't want to seem clingy or obsessive. Their kisses try different things, to see how you'll react to them. They've also never had their first kiss, so it's new to them.

Hannie: Really depends on the preference of the person they're kissing. They're very experienced when it comes to relationships and kissing, so they like to just match whatever their partner likes. I guess you could say they're the perfect kisser.

N: Passionate. They've been in quite a few relationships, just like Hannie, but their style of kissing is the same. They pour their heart into it. Even if it's a one night stand, they like to pretend that they're falling in love al over again.

Oli would think about it the whole day. Wonders if they did something wrong-- did they miss something? They keep a record of all the dates, they didn't miss an anniversary or anything important-- what did they do? When they see you, they'll ask why you didn't kiss them while holding you close. They thought they said it in a mature way, but they were pouting the whole time.

Hannie would pull you back before you even left the door. "Where do you think you're going, darling?" As a punishment for forgetting, would probably make you late for the amount of payback kisses they would give you.

N wouldn't notice right away, but then would feel as if something was missing, and then it would strike them out of nowhere-- you didn't kiss them! They would text you right away, "You forgot my kiss!" Would kiss you as soon as you're home.

ROs reaction to having to leave for a week or two and when they get back they see MC asleep cuddling their pillow or one of their shirts?

I'm assuming this is relationship stage! I'm also using cuddling their pillow and wearing their shirt!

N would take a picture to tease you with later (and to fangirl/fanboy over). Would spend a stupid amount of time just looking at you with heart eyes. Ater a while, once they snapped out of it, would walk over quietly and gently shake you awake, with a little jazz hand routine and a big smile, and would tell you they'll join you in the bed in a moment.

Hannie would just freeze for a moment-- and then run behind a door or something. This is one of the things you could do to really, really fluster them. If they came home to see it, they would go BRIGHT RED. They wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it-- they might not wash that shirt again, and even if they do, every time they look at the shirt or anything that looks like it they'll think about you.

Oli would smile from ear to ear and would take a second to admire you. Would probably take out Toots (or Cutie Patootie Little Banana Booty, the plushie you gave them when you were kids, which is also what they took on their trip to remember you with) and would whisper to you while you sleep about how they were thinking about you, too.
