No Longer Homeという短編ゲームが私小説みたいでわりと好きだ。ゲームの完成度や伝えられるメッセージには青臭いところもあるけれど、私小説としてその青臭さは大事な個性だと思う。Kentucky Route Zeroの影響も受けているというところもあって贔屓目で見てる。何よりエンディングに辿りついたときプレイしてよかったと思えるゲームは、いろいろ足りなくても自分にとってはいいゲームだ。

このゲームをKentucky Route Zeroがご縁で知り合った中国のフレンドにギフトした。文学的ADVが好きな人だ。

雰囲気やテキストの良さは感じ取ってもらえて楽しんでもらえたようで、Steamに「おすすめ」レビューも書いてくれたりして贈ってよかったなと思ってる。そのレビューは黒塗りでこっそりとこう締められている。

虽然说家家有本难念的经但我看到两个大学生主角一边抱怨别人是capitalist bastard一边坐拥着一间卧室+一间工作室+厨房+就在自己房间旁边的带浴缸和淋浴的卫生间（洗澡都不用出屋！）+花园，而且毕业的烦恼是得从一个发达的现代法治国家回老家——另一个发达的现代法制国家时，我的内心充满了丑陋的嫉妒，capitalist bastards！

自分は無神経だったのかもしれないけれど、正直思ってなかった感想で面白かった。思っている以上に広い世界で同じゲームをしてぜんぜん違う感想を持つことは、多分豊かなことだと思っている。私小説はいろいろな「私」を引き出すのだろう。

登場人物たち、そして作者たちの切実な別れや悩みも、自分がそれを形にしたゲームに感銘を受けたことも、フレンドがその経済・社会状況に複雑な感情（というか憎しみ）を抱くこともすべて同じ世界の出来事で、誰もその思いは間違ってない。その交わる場所にNo Longer Homeという１本のゲーム（とKentucky Route Zero）があったのだろう。

私は率直な感想を書いてくれたフレンドに敬意を示し、そのレビューにそっと「健康的」アワードを贈った。

Game 246 - No Longer Home by Humble Grove

What did I think it was at first? Narrative game about the concept of home / leaving home. I know this game features nonbinary characters, and as a nonbinary character myself this is within my area of interest.

How was the character creator? None, you play as Ao and Bo. Both are recently graduated students. You can control their actions and reactions to others as well as how they speak to each other.

How was the game? I remember not really liking it while I was playing it, but in hindsight I think it captures the mood it's going for very well.

Ao and Bo have just graduated school, and they have to move out of their apartment and go their separate ways. Their relationship isn't really defined, but they share a bed so it seems like they're partners?

Most of the gameplay involves you plodding around the apartment as Ao or Bo contemplate their impending move and how they wish they were different. The pacing is slooooooooow - the characters don't move especially quickly and you spend most of your time reexamining the items you've already seen. The house also looks very same-y so it's tough to recall what you've seen and what you haven't seen?

The best parts of the game are when the characters are in conversation with each other and with their friends. Choosing to shape how the group dynamic moves reveals something about each character - and it feels a lot more engaging than just "look at the bed. look at the bed but now it's got weird spooky stuff going on."

A lot of concepts are introduced but not thoroughly elaborated on. Like, who is this creature? I get that they're a personifnication of self hate but this weird monster comes up once and then never again.

On the plus side, you can pet every cat and the controller vibrates when you do. Very nice.

What did I not love? Though the plodding pace captures the hazy post-graduation days well, it does make the game a little bit boring to play? Often it's difficult to tell if there's new information to examine around the house, but you have to carefully and slowly comb through it to see if any breadcrumbs are placed around that will help you get more story out of the story.

Towards the middle of the game where one would expect the climax to be, there's a "game-within-a-game" setup. This was extremely dull and didn't tell you anything about the characters and their relationship, which is the most engaging part of the story. I don't think it really does anything to continue the narrative.

At 104 minutes and 7 cents, was it really worth it? Honestly, this isn't a narrative game I would recommend to others. It feels like making it was probably an important task to the creators, but I don't think it necessarily has a lot of appeal to folks who are casually interested in narrative games.
