monel! mon-el. or m'onel. or lar. or valor. this guy!
i have a confession with this one. i don't actually have any strong feelings about any monel other than pzh m'onel.......so the ideas here are a little biased towards that
something that i was interested in communicating with this design is the juxtaposition of someone as strong as superman who can be killed by something extremely common. making a character look both strong and fragile is a really fun exercise!
a fairly average, sort of thin body type works better than a more recognizably strong one, i think, contrasted with how huge i draw his cape being. that giant shape can be used to just literally hide the unassuming body type, and i think it looks cool.
i just REALLY like the space pattern that valor and andromeda have in pzh, okay. so i put them on here, and i went one further by giving him space eyes, like those guys from star wars. that, plus little markings on the face was all i did for the Alien Design Mission here - i'm hopeful that changing more on other legionnaires allows me some wiggle room in keeping others fairly human-looking.
i actually think that for something that's basically just inverted superman, mon's general costume design is pretty solid, with the little jacket thingy and those big golden buttons, so i kept the basic gist of it. i stuck to using Just reds and blues as much as i could in the design as a whole, with those couple yellow rectangles to break it up

What are your karamel headcanons/opinions? I love your blog btw
thank you, it's so beautiful here
Tumblr media
now just because i do honestly ship karamel, that doesn't mean i think their canonical relationship was without its toxicity. mon-el had a running habit of talking over kara, lying to her, deciding things about them by himself, generally disrespecting her. i do believe he loved her, honestly, but i also know that when he started loving her, he was a douchebag. and that's canon.
kara was his first real relationship. kara was the first girl he loved, the first girl that was stronger than him, the first girl that he didn't have any power over as her prince. i think a lot of mon-el's trouble with respecting her comes from that; he's a prince of a tyrant-led planet, his entire life he's had things handed to him and suffered no consequences to his actions. he doesn't know what a real relationship looks like, he's not used to someone having complete equal say with him.
he's a dick. he's not completely sure how to not be a dick. he has never been in a situation where he suffers for being a dick. mon-el is like if toh's the collector character was an adult dudebro. so throughout all of s2, he is trying to learn to better himself, with varying success. fratboy rehabilitation. he's still not... good for kara, though. i do not think their s2 dynamic would have been sustainable in the long run
but then, s3. mon-el is, what, almost 10 years older? by then, he's a better man. he's good for the one he loves, even if that woman isn't kara but rather imra. and imra has kara to thank for mon-el not being shit. mon-el being married is as much of a shock to kara's system as is him being, like, completely fine. respectful. friendly. articulate, communicative, generous. he's become a leader and a husband. what the fuck.
i love to ship this version of them. the old version was interesting for angst sake and how fucked kara's perception could get, as toxic relationships often provide, but this flavor of karamel? it's syrup-y sweet. kara has equal footing and mon-el doesn't think to change that, not even subconsciously. it's the bare minimum, maybe, but. it's better.
and i think the dynamic would change even more. kara becomes... feisty with him. playful and smug. they like fucking with each other, in a healthy way this go around, play-fighting like superpowered kittens. this is such a fucking nerd comparison to make but if you've read pettigrace's arrowverse college groupchat au, it's like when coldflash (known as coldbar in their au) reconcile after their big blowout fight. i've delved into this headcanon change in their dynamic in basically all my karamel fics, tehe
Tumblr media
OKAY EVERYONE SHUT THE FUCK UP ITS HC LIST TIME
in the polycule au, he still left in the s3 finale, but when mon-el comes back to leave brainy and take winn, he ends up staying in the normie century. in that time, imra has taken up the official leadership role in the legion. the only change to them going back in the s3 finale is that they took psi with them, per imra's request. psi has then become imra's budding girlfriend and co-leader, so that's why mon-el feels safe leaving the 31st century this go around
when they get back together, iris suggests couple's therapy with dr finkel like caitlin once did for her, and it goes well!
kara once told him he showed valor after a crime-fight, back before the future shit. that's why mon-el chooses it as his superhero code name
remember when he spent forever teaching her cape tricks? okay now imagine the kink potential of that
did you know monel is the name of a group of nickel alloys? kara gets him an electric bass made with monel strings as a lil gift, calling it his mini-me
when mon-el learns that kara is like, technically in her 50s thanks to phantom zone fuckery, he starts hiding grandma candies in all her pockets. and her plants. and her cushions. she's finding pieces of butterscotch in her dresser. mon-el thinks he's hilarious
on that note, kara dares him to do the fluffy bunny challenge with the candies. if he loses, he no longer hides candy everywhere. he was so sure of himself. he was wrong
mon-el's her first alien boyfriend, right? so she doesn't actually need to be scared of his fragility. again, the kink potential
kara made him watch her fav musicals, he has joined barry allen and ray palmer in a love for singin' in the rain
mon-el isn't big on bands like nsync like kara is, yknow like, teen/dance pop? he does like pop, but prefers alt pop and pop punk. she introduces him to kpop in the hopes of converting him, and she's successful, but he also came out of it with a love for what the band babymetal call kawaii metal after being recommended jpop from all the kpop he was listening to. what have you done, kara.
considering we all know kara is a romcom boygirlie, mon-el found an insane subgenre that he fucking adores: zomromcoms!! romantic comedies with zombies!! disney even has a zomromcom musical trilogy and he annoys kara about it on the daily. warm bodies is one of his fav movies. kara agrees to listen to his disney zombies headcanons if he hears out her game of thrones theories
okay that's all i got rn, goodbye forever 🫡

im very intrigued by the motocrossed au?? would love to hear more about it if youre willing to elaborate🥰
so instead of twins, my early plotting is: kara, mike (monel), and kal (younger) are all cousins that were taken in my the danvers post alt-tragedy (this is a no powers au)
kara and mike look like they could be siblings so when he gets hurt riding at home with kal while eliza is away, kara decides to take his place (with alex’s begrudging help)
lex is another rider in the circuit and lena serves as his mechanic and kara thinks she’s real slick pretending but lena clocks her and mike’s swap immediately and is very into the new haircut

Can i ask for even just a little crumb of things about monell? I am a total simp and i need to know more.
I will give you my first newborn if need be
[I don't want your newborn anon, but you will be notified in case I require future sacrificial lambs.]
It's actually "Morell", with an r, kind of like the "morel" mushrooms (I'm so original, yes). I'm very glad you asked about Morell because he's one of my sickest monsters, which also means I will have to warn you before diving into this.
TW: Consumption of humans; Knives and sharp utensils; If you make vore jokes I will clap you.
(Minors dni)
Tumblr media
Morell, as you may already know, is working at The Clergy's Eye as the head chef and manager of Floor -1, where the restaurant is usually located (sometimes it's Floor 1, you never quite know since The Clergy is a living, shifting structure). Before he was recruited into the establishment, Morell was known for being an exquisite cook around densely monster-populated areas of the world. He had a personal mission to try and subsequently mimic every dish out there. Truly, there is no monster out there with half the culinary devotion of this mushroom miracle.
However, no one innocent ever ends up working for The Clergy, and Morell is no exception to this golden, unspoken rule. He may be an optimistic, loud sweetheart and worm his way into the hearts of many people, but the lad has some very peculiar tastes that can only ever be sated in the right place, surrounded by people of a similar nature. You see, Morell has cracked the code. Why the best type of meat out there is none other than the one found around the bones of humans! He's made enough meals to confirm that's objectively the case. Point here being, not everyone is very accepting of this discovery the monster made, and as such, not many places are willing to hire him now that his little dirty secret is out.
The Clergy however, sees endless potential in Morell's human delicacies. There's no shortage of creeps who agree with him, people who can safely indulge in their darkest wants inside the establishment. In all his professional life, Morell has never felt quite as appreciated anywhere else as he does in The Clergy's Eye- Where people can truly see the beauty of his work.
If you thought that was bad, then you'll surely hurl at the notion that, mayhaps, Morell gets a little too into the cooking process. Going as far as to get off on it alone. He just really enjoys his craft, you know? There's nothing quite like getting a plump, ripe human delivered to his kitchen, the fear in their eyes. Don't worry, he's nothing if not gentle, you won't feel a thing babycakes... Unfortunately, year after year of cooking humans for the pleasure of others has made the mushroom monster unable to properly behave himself around non-monsters. He'll casually quip about how juicy you look and maybe even grab you around the same way you'd inspect a piglet in a farm.
There's a way to survive being in his clutches, but if I told you that now it would kill the fun, wouldn't it? Try and guess, it's not very complicated.
Fun facts:
Morell's favorite cleaver is called "babygirl", he's quite attached to it;
Probably the most amicable member of The Clergy, always available and ready to work. Avoids drama;
Gets along very well with Gallon, in spite of the two having radically different personalities;
Pay him well enough and he'll cook a monster, no questions asked.

Who was Guertha Pratt, and where was her home?
By Jonathan Monfiletto
Tumblr media
For more than 100 years – from the 1870s until the early 1980s – and largely in a time before nursing homes and assisted living facilities, the Penn Yan community hosted a home for elderly women from Yates County and the surrounding area to spend their golden years and maintain their independence. For the first 40 or so years, the home was located on North Main Street and then Chapel Street, operated by the Penn Yan Methodist Episcopal Church, and called the Old Ladies’ Home. For the next 70 or so years, the home was located on Clinton Street, operated by the Pratt Foundation, and called the Guertha Pratt Home.
The title to this article asks two questions, and both of them have interesting answers. The first is interesting because Guertha Pratt had no apparent involvement in the home that was named for her. The second is interesting because, while the answer is simple – the home was located at 224 Clinton St., on the corner with Hamilton Street – the home was not “her” home. According to her husband Seneca’s obituary, Mrs. Pratt “was greatly interested in the Old Woman’s Home in this village,” though it isn’t clear whether she was actively involved in the home. Meanwhile, the Pratt family home – where Seneca died – was located on East Main Street.
What became known as the Guertha Pratt Home started out in either 1870 or 1873 – different sources vary between the two years – as the Old Ladies’ Home. Whatever year it happened, it began when several women from the Methodist Church raised $400 (approximately $9,500 today) and purchased a home on North Main Street to rent out to several needy Methodist women at low rent. According to a typewritten document in our subject file, it was especially meant to be a permanent home for Salinda Soper, an elderly teacher who had kept a private school in the building.
With a charter secured, the organization was officially known as The Old Ladies’ Home of the Methodist Church of Penn Yan. Darius Ogden’s wife, Judith, served as the president from the beginning until her death in 1894.
Over the years, the group struggled along and received small donations to keep the home going. In 1890, a $1,500 gift from the estate of Johanna Sheldon enabled the group to sell the North Main Street property and purchase a residence on Chapel Street. At this home, two or three rooms were rented to “several worthy individuals,” Frank L. Swann terms it in a 1959 “History in the News” column, to raise money to pay taxes and cover repairs. Each resident, however, had to pay her own living expenses.
In 1910, Mr. Pratt – “one of the most active and enterprising of our business men,” according to his obituary – proposed giving the organization $5,000 if the group could raise another $2,500 for an endowment fund. In exchange, the home would become known as the Guertha Pratt Home in memory of his wife, the former Guertha Wolcott, who had died June 8, 1909 from complications related to appendicitis. Mr. Pratt had started out in the shoe business with his father, Harvey, and then became a member of the Andrews, Pratt & Co. flour mill whose name later changed to Russell, Fox & Company. Mr. Pratt began to manufacture grape baskets in a large factory at the foot of Monell Street on the site of what became Guile & Windnagle when Mr. Pratt sold out and retired.
Two ladies from the organization’s board went out and began raising money toward the $2,500 goal. People responded and stepped up, giving anywhere from $50 to $200 or even smaller amounts. However, the final $500 was not raised until three years later. Mr. Pratt waived his stipulation on raising the money, especially since a board member promised to pay 6 percent on the remaining $500, $30, per year until the entire amount was raised.
The Chapel Street property was sold for $1,500, and Maurice Andrews offered his home at 224 Clinton St. for $5,500. The board agreed to pay $4,500 down and 6 percent on a $1,000 mortgage. The board bought the home April 1, 1911 but allowed Mr. Andrews to remain in his home until May 1. In addition, the board sold 88 feet of the property on Hamilton Street, with a barn, for $600. Before the home opened, the Theodore Hamlin family decorated the two parlors and completely furnished the front parlor, including a library of a hundred books. They wished to maintain the library and established a fund for the purpose.
The Guertha Pratt Home officially opened May 24, 1911, with Belle Stebbins as the first matron and Sarah Butterfield as the first resident. The community showered the new home with housewarming gifts: table linen, dining table and chairs, dishes, silverware, a kitchen stove, and food supplies. Henry Underwood gave a rug for the back parlor. A few months after the home opened, about a year after his initial donation, Mr. Pratt made another donation to the residence now named for his wife. Seeing the home up and running and convinced it would succeed, he presented a total of $15,000 – $10,000 from himself and $5,000 from his mother. Coincidentally, Mr. Pratt died a few weeks later of a stomach ailment.
The residence was not officially known as the Guertha Pratt Home until 1919. Though the trustees of the Methodist Church had released the home to the board of what would now be the Pratt Foundation, a lack of funding and assets had caused the charter not to be changed. Thus, on paper at least, the home was still known as the Old Ladies’ Home. With the high cost of living brought on by World War I, it was thought best to get a new charter under the name of the Guertha Pratt Home and make it, though it already had been, an nondenominational institution. Reorganization of the charter called for the board to include 12 directors, three each from four of Penn Yan’s churches – Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopal, and Baptist.
In 1928, the dining room was redecorated and refurnished in memory of Sophia Eva Wise by members of her family. The family also created a trust fund to maintain the room in its complete condition. In 1929, an endowment fund was created and placed in trust with the Rochester Trust and Safe Deposit Company. Many people, including the late New York State Senator William Carson, contributed to this fund during its existence. Also in 1929, while residents initially paid what they could to live there, the home set a one-time charge of $400 for anyone over age 75, $500 for people from age 65 to 75, and $600 for anyone from outside of Yates County. That fee never increased until the last few years of the home’s operation.
Many renovations took place over the years: exterior painting in 1938, removal of the cupola in 1946, interior redecoration in 1949, exterior painting in 1950, remodeling of the kitchen in 1951, modern heating plant in 1955, and landscaping in 1959. Effective September 1960, a state law made other changes mandatory – complete sprinkler system, railings in corridors and bathrooms, and corridors for alternate exits. Continued gifts from individuals and families – such as the Pratts, the Hamlins, and the Wises – aided these improvements.
At full capacity, the residence could house 18 people. Over the years, a laundry room, an enlarged kitchen, and bedrooms were added to the rear of the home.
In 1961, the Guertha Pratt Home recognized its 50th anniversary with an open house to “show people of this area that retirement for women can mean more than a rocking chair,” according to a newspaper article promoting the event. The article noted the home operated independently through resident fees, gifts, and an endowment. Two hundred people attended the open house, with the ladies living there ready to greet them and praise their home.
A newspaper article covering the event stated each resident had her own room, “surrounded by treasured items from their past,” and had the use of two living rooms downstairs to entertain guests and a large dining table for meals. The ladies were free to enjoy church and local affairs and move about the community and could help in the kitchen or with the cleaning if they so chose. “Throughout the years, the Board of Directors has aimed to make the home truly a home and not an institution,” the article stated.
The Guertha Pratt Home remained opened for two more decades. In September 1982, Elizabeth Vaughn – the last of the residents – moved out. Then, the home was empty and listed for sale. Because of rising costs of maintenance and decreasing need because of a number of nursing homes and low-rent apartments now in existence, the home’s board of directors decided that January to close the home. Another problem was keeping up with stringent state safety and health regulations in operating a retirement home. A newspaper article of the time called it “the last of a vanishing breed – the women’s retirement home.”
Minnie “Aunt Min” Presler summarized the spirit and the legacy of the Guertha Pratt Home when she celebrated her 97th birthday in 1972, having lived at the home for 13 years by that point. The oldest of the home’s 14 residents at the time, she helped out by ironing napkins and tablecloths, washing her own laundry, and putting the clean dishes away.
“The best thing that ever happened to me was coming here. Here is home,” she commented in a couple of newspaper articles. “I can’t ask for anything nicer than my home here. I’ve never regretted having come.”

I passed 🎉🥂
Wednesday morning was cooler so again we had to think about what to wear. Jose spoke to his Mum and Ang but Mum and I were having tech problems. In a week today the Mums will be here 😆
Wednesday is Spanish day and today Jose was the only teacher at our morning Spanish session. He was great and I think the participants are sorry we’ll now be away for the next two weeks.
After class we headed over to our storage to get our warmer weather cycling gear 😜 then home for lunch.
Today I received an email to tell me I had passed my Cultural exam😆 One step closer but the hardest is yet to come 😳
This afternoon I had my one on one Spanish class. Afterwards we had a celebratory sangria by the beach and tonight we had a bottle of cava with dinner. It’s one small step but we need to celebrate as getting ready for the language exam is quite stressful.
On a lighter note I cracked Jose up the other day. “Return” in Spanish is “volver”. To try and help myself remember I thought revolver as in a revolving door (not the gun). Unfortunately I forget it was a reminder and wrote revolvemos which means revolving so I had us spinning not returning 🙄
Thursday there was definitely a chillier wind. Again deliberations over what we were going to wear to cycle in. Marjolein is laid low with hay fever, poor duck, so Jose decided to ride with me.
The Volta Catalunya starts on Monday. The climb we did today and the one we did Sunday and Els Angels are all in the first stage 🫢 Makes me feel like a total woose.
Today’s climb I haven’t done since 2019 and it was tougher than I remembered. You could see they were setting up for Monday and we saw a couple of pro riders obviously scouting the course. We also suspected some of the cars were too though they didn’t have any signage.
It was a nice ride but the wind was picking up as we headed home. We’d had coffee at Monells on the way out and had planned to stop at Yari’s on the way home, but I was worried about the wind picking up more so we headed straight back to L’Escala. At that stage the wind was already quite uncomfortable but I wasn’t quite at meltdown stage.
Back in L’Escala, given we’d only eaten our bars along the way we treated ourselves to lunch at the beach. We were sheltered from the wind and it was sunny so very nice.
A quiet afternoon at home getting stuff done and of course some Spanish study. Late afternoon we walked into town and picked up a couple of bits and pieces before settling in at home for the evening.

Monel K500 Blind Flanges Exporters
Tumblr media
Monel Blind Flanges are manufactured without a bore and used to blank off the ends of piping, Valves and pressure vessel openings. From the standpoint of internal pressure and bolt loading, blind flanges, particularly in the larger sizes, are the most highly stressed flange types. A Blind flange is round plate which has all of the relevant boltholes but no center hole, and because of this feature this flange is used to close off the ends of a piping systems and pressure vessel openings. It also permits easy access to the interior of a line or vessel once it has been sealed and must be reopened.
However, most of these stresses are bending types near the center, and since there is no standard inside diameter, these flanges are suitable for higher pressure temperature applications.
Monel Blind Flanges are used for testing the flow of gas or liquid through a pipeline or vessel. It helps to close the end of piping systems or vessel openings. It allows easy access to the pipeline when there is a requirement to work done inside the line. They are used in high pressure applications available in all grades, materials, size and specifications. Blind pipe flanges are typically provided with a raised face, flat face, or RTJ facing. When a raised face is necessary for blind pipe flanges, the standard height is 1/16" for blind pipe flanges under 400 ( 2.4360)#. For blind pipe flanges of 400 ( 2.4360)# and up, the standard blind pipe flange raised face height is 1/4".
B16.5 ASTM A182 Blind Flange, Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating, EN 1092-2 PN16 Blind Flange, ASME B16.5 Dual Monel Alloy Blind Flange, ANSI B16.5 Class 150 Flat Face Blind Flange, Monel Alloy Reducing Blind Flange Stockiest.

Since you're bored and I'm trying to avoid work (haha), I'll ask something! (Keep in mind I'm newish to the fandom so I apologize if you've answered some variation of this before).
What drew you to Supercorp? Were you already watching SG when Lena came on or were you drawn to it because of kcmg? Or was it the fandom itself? Something else?
I hope work improves!
Oooo actually I don’t think I’ve ever talked about this
So back when sg started on cbs I kept up with all of it, watched every week, was rooting for Kara and James (tho the slightest bit begrudgingly only because I didn’t/don’t like how they wrote for them vs what they were also writing for Lucy and James)
And when it moved to the cw I was just happy to still have it. I knew the quality would change having been watching arrow and flash but I was just thrilled it wasn’t gone because Melissa in the suit is just such a happy visual for me (in like a “fuck yeah look at that awesome woman” way at the time because I still hadn’t had my bi epiphany yet)
And then boy howdy did it become tough to watch. I’m pretty sure I made it through season 2 and thought Lena was cool (if tragically underutilized in that for so long she had to deal with the “will she go evil” writing that just wasn’t warranted past s2) and to be completely honest, at the time, some of the way they set up was monel wasn’t the worst for me but I wasn’t really watching watching (tho I was properly upset over the James sidelining for the real world implications of it)
(Tbh if I had been more invested then I maybe wouldn’t have ever come back around like I have)
So then it became that every season from 3 to 5 I’d be there night one ready to get back in it and then within 4-6 episodes they’d do something so fucking frustrating that I’d start missing a week or two at a time until there was no catching up until it’s on dvd
But then the pandemic happened and I’d had my epiphanies and suddenly all I wanted to do for comfort (while having to work through it all) was to look at and think about KMcG’s face
And thus the fall down the rabbit hole began, i was there every week suffering through s6 and lowkey haven’t been able to read any fic that’s not sc in months and months

The Estanyol family: etymology and heraldy
This is a continuation of that post, about nature motifs. @asongofstarkandtargaryen
To start, the word estanyol means "small pond or lagoon" in catalan. It's a diminutive of estany (pond).
In addition, if we talk about the coat of arms of the Estanyols, first shown in some banners in episode 6 of La Catedral del mar, it's a swan in a red field and below, a six-pointed yellow star on blue field, and it's shown in some other items during the sequel.
And it's interesting because that sigil is based/inspired in some sigils of the historical Estanyols:
Catalan. Cut: 1st, from... a silver... star, a sable bird.[Ms B-87]
Catalan. Of gold, a mallard of ..., on a terrace, with bushes and herbs at the foot of the water and two crossed fish, of silver; in chief a star of azure. [Ms 3410]
Catalan. Cut: 1st, of azure, an eight-pointed star, of gold; 2nd, silver, a sable bird. [p. Coast, ms] [A. G. Carraffa]
Catalan. of Monells. Of gold, a natural mallard between reeds and cattails of sinople, shores of a great pool of silver, shaded in azure with two tench counterpassing one over the other, in gules, on the forehead an azure star. [Fr. X. de Garma] [A. G. Carraffa]
Catalan. From... a castle of... Seal of Marc Estanyol, a. 1418. [F. of Sagarra]
Catalan. From Sardinia. From azure, a gold star. Coat of arms of Pedro Estanyol, Conseller of the University of the castle of Cáller, a. 1426. [J. Gramunt]
Of Catalonia. It comes from the place of Estanyol, from the judicial district of Girona. Also from a solar house in the town of Monells, in the judicial district of La Bisbal in Girona. Based on references from historians of the time and others found by Araldis in the registry archives of cities and other private ones, we could affirm, but not guarantee, that this shield or another very similar to it, initially appeared from the 11th to the 14th century, particularly in the composition of the troops with which Jaume II conquered Alicante, Elche and Murcia at the end of the 13th century. The references of this family seem to be specified more frequently from the 15 to the 19th centuries, especially the events of Barcelona and Berga, on September 11 and 12, 1714, in which the dynastic war between the Austrians and the Bourbons tragically ended. All this seems to coincide with the family memory of some of the members of the family branch. The study of the family heraldic coat of arms "tells" us about those who formed the origin of the Estanyol family, since that was their function, to show others their differential elements, since the inclusion of the star element is the most widespread figure in the heraldry, its meaning is imprecise, as far as the Peninsula is concerned, but it seems to demonstrate its fidelity to the Church of Rome, by analogy to the meaning in Lombardy and Tuscany, which was membership in the Guelph party (of the Pope of Rome). The enamels of the coat of arms of the Estanyol family proclaim the following values: Azure corresponds to the symbol of water, of the continuity of life, it is a color of nobility, beauty, chastity and fidelity, in addition to other virtues that characterized the family, such as financial abundance, perseverance, luck, fame.
Catalan Heraldry from 1150 to 1550, Martí de Riquer 1983 (8485704347)
Bonus:
While I was doing a bit of research about the family's heraldry, I discovered a genealogy web page with some historical Estanyols, and I found some women during the 16-17th centuries, named Caterina Estanyol, and now my headcanon is that maybe Arnau Jr. will name his daughter or grandaughter after Caterina.
