this is only vaguely related to my last ask but it got me thinking again how much i don't like the type of scrutiny that some people engage with when it comes to headcanons. don't get me wrong, there is plenty of headcanons that i despite when they appear in a particular context because they clearly come from a place of total ignorance and sometimes even borderline malice; and there are ways of writing about characters that are very obviously rooted in reactionary attitudes. but i have also seen situations in which people of specific ethnicities were told they were not supposed to hc a character to be said ethnicity because of the classist implications. i have seen people saying that headcanoning a particular character to be trans is too stereotypical and that it makes them "sick." i've seen people annoyed about characters being a particular religion because "there's another character who was said to be that religion before" (shocking and upsetting to some americans especially: religions are real and usually have more than one follower so they don't have to be assigned to a single character per title as their token.) and idk i think we should all pause for a moment and remember that the pieces of identity that people assign their favourite characters are often their own. there are ways to reclaim these cliches too. it's a matter of intention. people often read themselves into their beloved pieces of art. and maybe it does not always create the truest image of the author's intention nor a revolutionary picture of minority rep, but no one claims it does.

#a matter that always gives me a headache is how people read my post about the issue of jason being portrayed as psychotic #as me saying he should never be portrayed as psychotic #when what i meant was that psychosis should not be associated with violence the way it was in these comics. #i write jason psychotic sometimes. #i also write jason queer in all the possible ways. he's a trans guy he's a woman he's aroace he's gay etc. #i also do write him in a way that suggests he has at least a cultural link to eastern europe. #and very explicitly catholic. as i do write quite a lot of characters. most notably dick #all things that could be read as extremely inflammatory and stereotypical #but that are ultimately pieces of me or my loved ones. #i think fanfiction and creative interpretation are a work of love in more way than one #as i said: in a sense you do not only read the material but also read yourself into it. #and there has to be careful consideration when it comes to it at times. #to make sure there is still engagement with the source that makes it worthwhile #but i don't think it's fair to tell people these experiences are inappropriate for these contexts. #it's another thing if devin grayson makes dick romani #it's another thing if a person of a particular id & experience wishes to explore it in fanwork #sorry idk. love wins.

Thankyou thankyou!!! They're the Vessel from the beginning of the Survey Program, and follow Kris around as a ghost narrating. Sort of the Chara to their Frisk, but with a lot more backseating

They don't control Kris, per say, like the player in canon Deltarune, but they do have more than just the power of being really annoying and can sway Kris without their input. Obviously, Kris isn't a big fan of being told what to do against their will and tends to fight back as much as they can.

They try not to be too annoying to Kris and stay in their lane as just an observer, but sometimes a choice comes up that they get entirely too excited about (like giving the plush to Berdly in Chapter 2, or giving affection to Ralsei) and end up accidentally forcing Kris to go along with them. They rarely notice when they do this, and Kris is unable to convey their lack of control to them, making their relationship very uneven.

In the Light World no one but Kris can see them, and they can't go very far from Kris on their own, where in the Dark World they can move at will and can even physically interact and be seen by everyone else, though Kris is still the only one who can hear them, so they tend to still stick pretty close to them.

They can also possess Kris to fully influence their choices and speech, though they only did so once and it was on complete accident. Kris described the experience as taking a Back Seat to their own life, fully conscious but unable to do anything. They've sense sworn to Kris to never do this again, it's the one thing Kris trusts them on.

I haven't yet decided if they're something that's always been with Kris, or if they're a new thing that appeared around the start of Chapter 1. That's probably a decision that'll change as we get more chapters and more information on Kris themselves

This Self Insert doesn't have any self ships attached to it, per say. The Vessel is very attached to Berdly and Ralsei but in a much more "Kris you should date these people" way, which makes Kris incredibly uncomfortable so they try to keep to themselves about it.

Okay time to talk about something really silly that I am very passionate about for literally no reason

Bowser (and all members of his specific species of Koopa including the Koopalings) is incapable of wearing clothes. I don’t care how many times in canon he is shown wearing clothes, it is just not possible. Why? Simply because how the hell do you get clothes over a giant spikey shell??? “But wait!” I hear you yell. “Can’t Bowser just take off his shell and put clothes on that way?” Well, I’m sure that’s probably how Nintendo imagines it works as well, but I beg to differ! Based on Bowser’s design, it doesn’t make sense for his shell to be removable.

Observe:

Bowser’s shell does not connect to the front of his body the way it does on regular Koopas. So for this lovely lil guy on the right, it makes sense for his shell to be removable; it does, after all, look like he’s just wearing it. But for Bowser, not so much. Bowser’s is actually apart of his body. Fused to his back.

Bowser has been seen inside his shell on more than one occasion, and usually it looks like the one on the left here. But it actually makes more sense for it to look like the one on the right (the way it looks in Smash Bros).

Yeah, it’s kinda silly looking, but it fits more with how actual turtles look in their shells!

Obviously, Bowser doesn’t have the exact same anatomy as a real turtle (the most obvious difference being that he’s bipedal). But I think, at least in terms of his shell, he has more in common with real turtles than other Koopas do. And in real turtles, the shell is not removable because it is part of their spine. The same should be true of Bowser.

So yeah, Bowser’s shell is not removable and thus, he should be unable to wear clothes. Well, anything that has to fit over his body like pants and shirts. He can still wear shoes and hats and bowties and other accessories. (Though looking back again, maybe he could wear pants? It might be hard to keep them up, but maybe he could?)
