MY WIFE HALEY
okay so since bells is prob gonna read this i'm not going to put any context so she's gonna be confused as fuck when i mention characters she's hasn't heard of before anyways yeah i'm doing paragraphs and all of that shit that first thing was called the pre monologue whatever the fuck anyways okay so like when you first meet her she's really fucking rude to you like she says you would look prettier with makeup and that your clothes are drity and all of that mean as fuck shit so like ppl describe shane as being mean as fuck to you because he's depressed and like drinking at all points of the day - which is not an excuse but reasonable - and ppl say that haley is mean to you just because WHICH IS FAIR but then again she was used to be considered the best because of confirmed cannon evidence saying, "Being wealthy and popular throughout high school has made Haley a little conceited and self-centered. " this supports the fact that her thinking she is the best has been what she has been told so she acts like everyone around her is the worse!!! also her parents are also cannon like gone and that might trigger a response in her to act in a sort of way. or she's just mean cause she's brutally honest and a bitch at the start of her character but i don't fucking know so like you have a couple of heart eventts showing her sister takes care of her and that she's a spolied brat but like around 6 or 8 hearts she's like improving what she used to say to you is like i'm gonna throw away my clothes and buy new ones or get rid of this and do this not beneficial thing and now it's like i'm gonna donate help people and she's also a better person in just a general sense like she thanks you for finding a bratical that has a lot of senimental value to her (as it was her grandmothers) she's growing as a person and improving so you date her and blah blah blah SHE'S SO FUCKING SWEET AND KIND LIKE EXCUSE ME??? she goes from ur an ugly bitch put some makeup on to damn i'm gonna donate clothes also ur pretty as fuck please kiss me you have a couple of cut scences like these really cute photos of taking a ride on a cow and alsooo kissing in a red room which is fun and kinda spicy ANYWAYS okay so like for her 14 heart event SHE LITERALLY FUNDS MONEY FOR PENNY JAS AND VINCENT SO THEY CAN GET BOOKS THAT'S THE MOST KIND FUCKING THING EVER she's so kind and loving towards you and yes she's slightly spolied but she has a lot of fun quirks that make her a kind of fun and adorable character she likes photography (me) and pretty and kind as fuck as you know her more okay also about that post i was talking about earlier her best friend is alex who is like the most jock aggorant dick you have ever seen which makes her seems straight as fuck but she's kinda gay as well like she would totally kiss a woman and have a crush on a girl soo that's my take
FUCKING ESSAY PPL photo of us kissing causeee:

BOOK RANT: What Lies Beyond the Veil. By Harper L. Woods
Let me start by saying everyday my hate for Booktok grows as people continue to wrongfully advertise the most terrible books. I usually have good success in the beginning as most of the books I read last year were recommendations. However, things have gotten overly saturated and often enough I find people marketing books I’m a dishonest way. And that’s where What Lies Beyond The Veil lands. Originally this book was marketed for those who like when the bad guy gets the girl. I believe it was marketed for those who rooted for Farrah and Rhysand from the beginning (for all the ACOTAR fans). Along with the morally gray love interest it was also labeled as a very spicy novel. What else could a girl ask for?
The problem is the book does have the bad guy get the girl…. but not in a way that anyone should want. Here is my warning for those who still want to read the book, there will be spoilers. Now the book does a good job of setting up the rest of the series and the ending would’ve been motivating enough if I hadn’t been lied to. Who knows, I might’ve somewhat enjoyed it.
To start off we are introduced to Estrella and her brother Brann. It’s just them and their mother, as their father was killed years ago. He was sacrificed to the gods by their town. Essentially every year their priest sacrifices someone at the end of the harvesting period in order to keep the veil up.
The Veil separates the human from the Fae.
With the death of their father it left their already poor family even worse off because their mother is unfortunately disabled. Estrella and Brann work in the fields in order to try to make whatever little they can. Their town is run by the Lord Byron who is married to the king's cousin. (I believe, someone related at the minimum.) The problem is the wife is dying, and Byron has his eyes set on Estrella. TRIGGER WARNING FROM HERE ON OUT. Lord Bryon basically AS the crap out of Estrella without ever going the full way as he still wants to preserve her virginity. (She’s not actually a virgin but truthfully that doesn’t matter here. That man lasts just a few chapters and he dies. Sorry) Bryon wants to marry her as soon as possible as she has been picked to be this year's sacrifice. He believes by poisoning his wife and announcing his intent to marry Estrella she would be saved. Truly one of the best things about her is she stands up for herself, she decides she RATHER DIE. On the day of the sacrifice the veil calls out to her, without thinking she reaches out to the veil and it breaks open! Now humans are being marked.
Marked? Yes marked, it’s basically a sign that your soul mate is a fae. Not all humans have a fae mate but the stories that are told say that if you are marked you go a little crazy and become a slave to the Fae. (I think. It’s not worth looking up the lore. Just go with it)
Guys I gotta be honest. This part of the book was soo good. I was hooked. And then it goes absolutely downhill from here.
Brann and Estrella run off into the woods hiding from the humans hunting her because she is marked and the Fae hunters who are also after her. As of course it turns out she’s special.
While on the run, they encounter Fae Guards and unfortunately Brann dies. Estrella is heartbroken but she is rescued by another marked human. Caelum. From the very beginning lays it on thickkk. There’s no denying she has this strong connection to him but his problem is he’s pushy. We are suppose to like Caelum because he keeps telling her he won’t do anything without her permission, and yes that’s such a change of pace in comparison to the R*pists in her town but is it really consensual if it was all under false pretense????
There’s things that happen in the middle but really those details do not matter because the big ending reveals that Caelum is not human at all but the Dark Lord Fae who is her mate.
A few chapters leading up to the end, Caelum is extremely possessive about her and truly sexualizes her from the very beginning. I don’t think they ever had a genuine conversation where he did not bring up the fact that he was gonna do the living crap out of her once she finally let him. The poor woman just lost her entire family, is on the run from literally everyone, and he’s the only person keeping her alive. She thinks she is choosing a human over her Fae mate. She thinks she’s finally making a choice that no one else has control over. She thinks she’s making a stand on her body. And so they do finally have sex. (A lot of times). But don’t you remember??? He’s lying. She made those choices under his lies. That all sounds a lot like sexual coercion… which is R*pe. And yet the trigger warning in the beginning of the book said none of the ass* ults are at the hands of the male lead. The entire last couple chapters is Estrella getting ass*ulted unknowingly.
This was not a story about the bad guy winning her heart in the end. This was a story about a bad guy manipulating and lying his way to link the Fae Bond.
There’s no way I will continue this series. If anyone else read this book what are your thoughts?? Am I crazy for this???
Thanks for reading ❤️

Hii soo id like to get matched up with one of the characters from ikepri(a romantic match btw)
I love to hangout with my friends(especially my bestfriends) and just have fun with them,i also like to bake with my friends. me and my bestfriend have this tradition where we make brownies whenever we’re hanging out at each others house’s. I dont really like cooking or baking alone though. I love shopping for clothes both online and in real shops. Im quite social and can start and hold conversation really well but i need some time for myself as well to recharge my social battery.i struggle with finding people i actually love unconditionally,i think my bestfriend is the only friend ive ever had that makes me feel like i love her no matter what.butt i actually have lots of friends that i do like and hangout with often.I DEFINITELY NEED REASSURANCE often i need to be told and MOST IMPORTANTLY SHOWED that someone cares about me(romantically or platonically). I like to read romance books quite often as well and i like to read all kinda of romance buttt if i had to pick a fav troupe itd be friends to lovers(was really close to choosing enemies to lovers).i love sweet and spicy food and hateee bitter stuff. I try my best to be nice to people since id rather not ruin someones day, and if someone was being a bitch to me id probably just ignore them and not stand up for myself since it usually doesn’t bother me but if someone insulted anyone i care about then i completely forget how to be nice😭i feel like i get along best with people that can have fun and make lots of amazing memories but also can relax and just be calm at times.
Im really sorry if i wrote too much and i cant wait to see who youll match me with 💕💕
(So I almost paired you with Yves cause he's a fashion icon, and loves to bake, but I'm playing his route right now, and he's definitely a (soft) tsundere, so that might not work out for you.)
I match you with Rio Ortiz.
(Rio route when?)
You two become friends when you find him in the rain on that fateful day, and despite having no prior memories, he never let it bother him, because he had you. And from there he fell head over heels for you in such a soft way that you fell not long after him.
He doesn't know anyone, (having lost his memories) but considering how sharp he is, any time you hang out with people, he gets along with them no matter who they are.
He just loves to be around you! You're literally his everything. You'll NEVER have to bake alone ever again. He wants to help, and spend time with you, so it's a fun bonding experience.
That said, he knows you really well, so when you do need time to yourself, he'll make you a cup of tea, (or coffee if you're a coffee person) grab you your favorite romance novel, and then head out on the town for the day. He always comes back with new books, and an outfit for you.
Speaking of, he loves going to shops with you to find clothes. He often asks you to pick an outfit for him as well, because he trusts your sense of fashion implicitly.
You never have to doubt his love for you, because he tells you every chance he gets. When you wake up, when you have to be apart, when you do things together, when you go to bed. He's very vocal about it.
You felt a soft kiss on your forehead. As you're roused yourself from sleep, and your eyelids flutter open, you see Rio looking at you with so much love and affection in his eyes it was almost overwhelming.
"Good morning, love," he whispered, his smile brighter than the morning sun.
"Good morning," you whispered back.
Rio began stroking your hair out of your face.
"Are you feeling more recharged today?"
"Yes, thank you. I'll never understand how you always know what I need."
Rio grinned. "Oh that's easy. It's because I just love you sooooooo much." He tickled your sides, and you couldn't help but laugh at him.
Rio rose from the bed. "Since you're feeling better today, do you want to check out that new clothing store in the town? There's a coat in there I have my eye on, but I want your opinion."
"Of course, that sounds amazing. Let me just get dressed first."
You rose from the bed, and began to get ready. Rio headed to the door, but paused in the frame.
"Oh! But the way!"
You glanced up at him. "What is it?"
He gave you a soft smile with all the emotion he could muster.
"I love you."

Hello, Hello!
Soo, a few days back, I had shared a post asking for some BBRae AU fanfiction recommendations, so, let's put the fact aside that it didn't really help... but now, I'm here to share some stories that I've read, and I recommend reading!
So, this list only consists of AU (Alternate Universe) stories where they aren't superheroes, so you can skip it if you want ^^
So... I won't rank them, because I think every story is amazing, (and I'm pretty easy to please,) so, I'm just assorting them as I keep collecting the links :) Also, I'll try my best to review the stories without giving away any spoilers...
Firstly, there are too many good fics to count, but here I am mentioning the ones which stood up in my mental folder. (Also, it only includes completed stories.)
This list includes all types of stories, high school, co-workers, roommates and all... the ratings are between T-M.
Tumblr media
(Links lead to stories on Fanfiction.net.)
The Butterfly Effect -by Light NS | Rated M for semi-sexually explicit material and topics of depression and suicide.
This story definitely comes in my top-5 list blindly, and it deserves so much more! The story is about Gar and Raven, who are adults now... and let's just say there are far too many coincidences in this one! It's a lovely story with also a healthy amount of tension... because, I personally believe it can't be BBRae without some arguments *shruggs*. You should definitely check it out if you haven't already!!
Broken -by LightNS | Rated T
Oofff... okay, so this story is actually one of the first BBRae stories I've read and it's really close to my heart...
First of all, I want to say that the characters in this story are freakishly accurate. I mean, the personalities are on-point. In this story, the Titans are high schoolers, but this isn't exactly a high school romance kinda book. To be honest, this isn't exactly a romance book..(?) It's more like an action/thriller... And... it isn't heavily a BBRae book... I mean, yeah, it is based on those two characters, and Gar spends most of his time crushing on her... but, y'know, it's a book that shows both of them growing... and learning about each other -and themselves.
The writer does an amazing job to portray the character's feelings and personalities, and I'm sure her writing won't disappoint you.
The only drawback this story has is... well, it has a discontinued sequel named "Glass", so, it's kinda sad that, I mean, I've fallen in love with those characters... but, they don't really have a happy ending soo…
This writer is also on Tumblr, @lightns881 , so you can also visit her blog and support her!
By the way, there're also really great BBRae communities to be found on Fanfiction.net and you can check them out for more fun stuff to read. The ones I thoroughly recommend are:
"Best Of BBRae" which basically has all the goodness, IU and AU (but, it's a bit old so... you might not see newer fics there.); and
"Best Of BBRae AU's" which is a collection of one of the best AU stories.
Moving on...
Everything Has Changed -by Chibi 1309 | Rated M for Mature themes and language.
This story also comes in my beloved top-5 list!!
I don't really know what to say about this story without ruining it, but if you're on the lookout for an adult Titans BBRae fic, this is definitely your stop. Well, let me just say that, Gar and Rachel are best friends, a troupe I personally adore, and they live together in an apartment in Jump City.
This story has a lot... I mean, A LOT of feels, and the writer... *chef kiss* She really knows what she's doing. May it be the setting, the characters, the emotions... the author could deliver it wonderfully.
It also has a lot of other Titan members, so I like the fact that it also gives us an insight on what's going on in their lives too, rather than just Gar and Rachel.
Hands up in surrender, I won't say anything else, because I don't trust my mouth (or fingers), but this work is definitely a must read.
"Spy vs Spy" by Caitastrophe8499 | Rated M for mature themes, violence, and adult situations.
This... is a masterpiece people. You should definitely read it... like RIGHT NOW!
In this story, Gar and Rae are from rival agencies, Doom Patrol and Titans, and as fate has it, they're forced to work together. Neither of them are happy about it, because of each other's cocky and standoffish attitude and as both of them work best solo... and also... both of them hate each other... at first. This book, it includes lots of action, and if you knew me, you'll know that I am a sucker for crime and thriller. I mean, this story in itself is so great, it could be adapted into an ACTION MOVIE!! Or maybe a graphic novel to start with. :)
And what's best about it is, it doesn't only show two people romance each other, it shows a group of people working together to catch a deadly villain. I won't say much more to build suspense, but all I'll say is, it's entertaining, spicy, and the character dynamic fit perfectly with their relationship and situation, and if you haven't read it, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! CHECK IT OUT NOW!! This will probably be one of the best recommendations of your life.
Assuming -by magisterquinn | Rated T
This is a feel good, light-hearted BBRae story that I very much enjoyed. So, basically, it's about Raven (or is it Rachel, I forget), and how the (dashingly handsome and) annoying employee won't leave her alone. She also gets a series of mail that sparks her interest, and I don't trust myself to say more without spoiling it.
Magisterquinn, the author, has an amazing collection of the BBRae (AU) stories they've written, "Chivalry Isn't Dead", "Making Mr.Right" (a must read) and "In Paris" to name a few, so, I definitely recommend checking out their profile for amazing and clever reads.
The Malchior Widow -by beautifulpurpleflame | Rated M
...this story...all I wanna say is... if you haven't read it, you're missing out on something wonderful in your fangirl(/boy) life.
This story is based on my favorite troupe, which is where all Gar wants is for Raven to open up to him. It's like, Raven is a reserved, "untouchable" person, and Gar, being Gar... feels an urge to talk to her. After many, many attempts, when Gar finally talks to her, his friends are like, "How'd you get her to talk?" or "How's she open up to you?" and the response is, "No one's ever even tried before."
"The Malchior Widow" goes at a satisfying, feel-good pace... and it's one hell of a journey. I mean, as the title suggests, Raven's a widow, and she isn't exactly open to the possibility of loving... or trusting someone else yet. It shows not only both of them falling in love... but also understanding, knowing, and learning to trust each other.
Another good AU story by Beautifulpurpleflame is "The Beach House", so you can also read that.
Honorary mention::
"How To Save Her Life" (Rated T) by "Beautifulpurpleflame"
If you're looking for a wholesome, toe-curling good, filled with feels, amazing, awesome, family Titans BBRae story... this book will give you everything... or any of Beautifulpurpleflame's stories really...
I mean, that girl... is a legend... Her stories are so great.. just... I'm speechless
Don't forget to check 'em out.
You can also follow this amazing writer on Tumblr, @beautifulpurpleflame , and show her some love and support.
Okay, another story... Now this may be considered cheating, as I'm only including completed stories... but I couldn't stop myself from not mentioning this story...
Nevermore Records -by LilyTimbers | Rated T
According to the author, only one chapter and an epilogue is left... so, I guess we could wave it off with a yellow flag?
I, myself, can't go on a single day without music. And the idea of my favorite team of superheroes... being a Rock Band..? Boy, ya' don't gotta tell me twice!
This is a slow burn story, which includes Gar in his mid-twenties, along with the other Titans (except Raven), being a part of a Rock Band, which plays gigs at different places just as a side hobby. But, as they have real talent, they get a once in a life-time chance to be an officially labeled band, they're ought to be super hit. Here, we also see some other Titans, which is a real sight for sore eyes sometimes... But, just being good doesn't mean that everything's out for them in a gold platter. The team itself faces lots of challenges which is, truth be told, really entertaining. And the fact that Gar's love interest is his own manager? Oooh... you're up for a real good ride...
I'll keep the rest of the reading to you... and believe me, the story is waaay better than my small review.
The author is also an amazing artist, and has many beautiful BBRae fanarts on her Tumblr profile @lilytimbers , so you can follow her for updates! (though tbh I think you already do... but I felt like saying it, soo...)
If you're also a sucker for musical band based BBRae story, don't forget to check out
Harmony -by Kid Walker | Rated M
Here, Raven joins a singing group which does covers, and quite willingly, she can't seem to keep her eyes off of their leader/director, Gar Logan... and looks like he can't either. It's an amazing story, and I believe you'll really enjoy reading it!
(The story itself is complete, just some extra bonus chapters that the Author posts are yet to be updated, so I guess this story qualifies.)
.
There is also a huge collection of amazing BBRae AU stories on Wattpad, too many to count, but here are two stories that I remember... and had a good time reading...
(On Wattpad only: (and only completed ones.))
High School -by anssoftball94
Soo... as you might've guessed from the title, here Gar and Rae are high schoolers. They live together with Rick (Dick/Robin), Kory and Vic in the Tower. I guess we could call it a slow burn, and what I enjoy is it also has the other Titans in a satisfying amount.
What I love about this story is that Gar and Rae don't just jump into a romantic relationship (like most teens do, I'm just sayin'!) and start a romance, no. In this story, first, they understand each other... and in a subtle manner, fall for each other. It's a really sweet and practical story, and I really enjoyed it... (even though I had to wait for the ending for decades!!)
Just one thing that makes this story a bit weird is that instead of "Gar" or "Garfield", Beast Boy is mentioned as "Logan" throughout the whole story... so... it was a bit... y'know? *shruggs*. But otherwise it's a must read.
A+ -by NikolaDabrowska
This story, to be honest, will definitely qualify as a cliché high school romance, "popular basketball kid falls for introverted bookworm nerd", but I really enjoyed reading it.
I mean like, you know what they say about Disney Classics, right? Even though we've read Beauty and The Beast or Snow White, we still like to watch the movies..? This story's like that.
Even though the troupe is kinda cliché, the story itself is executed in a very engaging manner, with interesting character dynamics and some original plots, so, I would definitely recommend reading it. (I, myself, have read it more than five times...)
.
.
.
So, that was a list of the BBRae AU stories that I highly recommend! There are more amazing (and incomplete) stories out there to read, but these are just the ones I've thoroughly enjoyed (and remembered.)
Also, feel free to share your BBRae story, if you have written any, and I'll happily read and support your story!!
Happy Reading!
Quick endnote, if you've read this post till here, do me a favor and check out my stories too! ;)
On Fanfiction.net and Wattpad.
All of my stories are complete, instead of "Tease Is Just The Cover" on FF.net (which I don't think I'm gonna work on any time soon), so feel free to check 'em out!
Sorry for the advertising, but I also want an audience y'know?
THANK YOU! And I hope you have a good day/evening/night ahead!

Chef Soo. Three meals a day
Tumblr media
Pairings: Do Kyung Soo x OC (Nameless, but I refuse to use Y/N)
Genre: Romance, AU, fluff, slow burn I guess. A molecule of angst.
BREAKFAST: Lemon Pie
The coffee owner and the baker
An important part of opening a cake shop/coffee shop was having an actual baker. She only had the good ideas and the money.
Fives chefs applied to the job and only one of them was smart enough to bring a taste of his cooking. Kyung Soo arrived with a lemon pie that tasted like heaven. It was also her favorite sweet. A match made in heaven. She hired him on the spot.
And she thanked that decision every day.
If she had to describe Kyung Soo in one word it would be an ant. Working none stop, focused on his job and a great team player. He was quiet and a bit serious, but he was her voice of consciousness.  Whenever she came out with an idea that was unusable, he would tell her, with a lot of respect but stern. In other words, this is stupid, don't do it. Although sometimes that made her feel restricted. Because yes, macaroons were expensive and hard to do. But they were in trend. And a cake covered with macaroons could tempt anyone. It would be expensive, but she was sure they could sell at least two cakes per day. Or two cakes during the weekend “What about the work involved? Personally, I haven’t had good experiences making macaroons, and if we make them, I would have to neglect something, like the Mille-Feuille that sells great during the weekends” She felt smaller and smaller sitting on her chair. She knew he was right, of course he was. But her vision! She has seen it on her mind, a round cake covered in sweet almond pillows in pastel colors, maybe with some edible glitter on top “I know you have this Pinterest image in your head, and I can see it too, but we can’t risk that much yet, maybe in a couple of months…you could get another chef and they could be in charge of more complicated sweets, but for now, I don’t think we can do it” “I get it Kyung Soo, thank you for your honesty” “Are you ok? You look very disappointed…I mean…I could..” “No, don’t worry, Kyung Soo, you are the chef you know better than me, and I like that you are like this, just…don’t be so bland about it, this is my dream and I’m happy because it’s working, so I may get excited about it” “I’m sorry” He looked less stoic when he said it. Apologetic. He patted her shoulder and went to take the muffins out of the oven. The day Kyung Soo came to work for the first time they spend an hour talking. She shared her vision for the coffee, a cozy, calm and familiar place where people went after work when they didn’t want to go out with their coworkers, where a mom could go and read a book after leaving the kids with her husband, maybe where students could go for the wi-fi and  regain some energy for the last class of the day. Of course she wanted to gain money, after all, she quit her job, took all the money from the unemployment insurance, sold her car, the jewelry her grandmother gave her and took a loan so she could open her coffee shop. She told him that for now, they needed to focus on flavor and quality. A small assortment of sweets to buy, and a menu of sweet things to serve like crepes and pancakes.  He was immediately on board. He came up with the menu and the tarts, cakes, cookies, and desserts that they would sell. The first month was slow but steady, the second month was better, but not what they expected. By the third month, things took off. Kyung Soo’s Eclairs were always sold out by lunch, the Mille-Feuille cake needed reservation and people bought the chocolate mousse in bulks. They were extremely busy, but every day they reached their goal of the day. Kyung Soo worked as hard as she did. She never asked him, but she always had the feeling that for him this was his business too, his dream. Or at least he treated her dream has his. They were a perfectly synchronized team.
By the sixth month, she had already paid the loan. Just a couple of months and she would be able to hire a couple of people that could help Kyung Soo, now he had to do magic with his own hands and a part-timer. They grew closer too. Very slowly. Kyung Soo wasn’t distant or cold, but work was too much, and the only relationship they could have was a working relationship. Friendship was impossible when they were busy building up the business, cooking, fighting with the suppliers and putting down small fires, figuratively of course, except for one time. But under those circumstances, you end up knowing someone better than you know yourself. You end up getting used to that person’s company, voice, presence even his little habits. Like how he would tight his apron after putting something in the oven, or the cute face he made when whipping cream. She knew them all, since her eyes searched for him most of the time.
By the end of the year, Kyung Soo was interviewing someone for the position of baker. But the situation was better than what they expected, so they hired two new people. Kang Jisoo was a great patisserie with expertise in food styling “She can be in charge of the pretty sweets” Kyung Soo told her when they were going through her CV. She beamed in excitement. Jisoo was going to be Kyung Soo’s right hand. One of the CV’s caught their attention. He was also a baker, but he had an internship in France making bread “People keep asking us if we sell bread” “Can we hire him?” He asked with controlled excitement. She gave it a little thought, she liked the idea, but she was thinking on giving another use to the extra money they were making “Kyung Soo, actually, I wanted to give you a raise” He looked at her warmly, and she felt it all over her body. His eyes were always so expressive, he didn’t need to say anything. He was grateful “Thank you, but I can manage for now with the money I make, let’s hire him, and you raise my pay later” Kyung Soo was expecting something like that. Not because he wanted it, but it was something she would do. He heard her talk about it with her mom once. He could always hear her conversations in her office due to the glass door. She told her how she thought Kyung Soo wasn’t getting paid what he deserved. But she told him once that they were a team, they were in this together, and he promised himself to support her in this dream. So if now the right thing was to hire two new bakers instead of raising his paycheck, so let it be. So on Monday, the lovely Kang Jisoo and the bright Byun Baekhyun arrived, ready to start working. Kyung Soo took Jisoo and didn’t release her for the rest of the day. She did the same with Baekhyun, they came up with an assortment of 6 types of bread and his schedule. That day after a long day at work they went for dinner. They were very tired but excited to survive their first day at work. At one point in the night, she saw her new two coworkers with motherly eyes. They were cute, cheerful, with such a great disposition and most importantly, very talented. She caught Kyung Soo looking at his new coworkers too, stopping at Jisoo for a long second. She was surprised by how that made her feel. --- Since Baekhyun arrived, her mornings were more energetic. Baekhyun’s shift began at 5 am and ended at 2 pm. Since he was in charge of bread, those needed to be done during the morning. She arrived at 8 am, and was welcomed by a nice loaf of warm bread and a coffee that Baekhyun prepared for her. She got to share a lot with Baekhyun. He was the typical happy go lucky guy, who was always chirpy and who’s second language was flirting. Not on purpose, it was just part of his personality.
Byun Baekhyun was the typical energetic guy. He was always laughing, always making everybody laugh, your instincts would always tell you to like someone like him. And he has won her trust and friendship in a matter of days. Kyung Soo was always jealous of guys like him. He was so jealous of Baekhyun. But it was impossible to hate him. He enjoyed being around him, although they didn’t have a lot of time to share he enjoyed watching him. But he didn’t enjoy watching her laughing with his jokes. He never made her laugh like that.
It was Friday and Jisoo asked them if she could leave earlier for a friend’s birthday. They looked at each other and nodded at her at the same time. She was still young, she deserved to party, she commented as Jisoo left “She is a couple of years younger than you, don’t be so dramatic” He answered with a chuckle. She giggled with him, and Kyung Soo was sure this was the first time that happened, and he felt stupidly proud of himself. It was time to close and they were the only ones left working “Like the old times” He commented. He was right. It was like the old times. She couldn’t believe that her little but ambitious dream was going strong. The income now was steady. The coffee shop was never empty and Kyung Soo’s cakes were very popular. She stayed at the door of her office looking at Kyung Soo washing his hands. She knew she was looking at him lovingly, but he wasn’t paying attention so she allowed herself to do so. Their time to leave was closer, but she didn’t want to leave yet. She wanted to be with him a little bit more “Hey, I got emotional all of the sudden, wanna go for dinner, also known as drinks?” She asked as soon as the idea formed in her head, so in that way her common sense wouldn’t get in the way “Sure, let me go change” Kyung Soo dashed into the dressing room and left her there in shock. This was the first time they would go out together. They went to the usual spot where the four of them would go for dinner after a good week of sales. Kyung Soo ordered fried chicken and she went for a bowl of ramen. They ate in silence, a comfortable one. She took a spicy wing from his plate and he ate several spoons of broth from her bowl. The place started to get packed and the buzz in the air made them began to talk. It started with work talk, plans for next week, the menu for the coming summer, and the possibility of changing one of the providers “How do you feel about Jisoo and Baekhyun?” He asked her, moving the empty plates aside, resting his elbows on the small table “Great, I think we made a good decision hiring them, are you ok with Jisoo?” “She is perfect, she works diligently, her cake designs are terrific, and she is very nice to be around” The word Perfect kept resounding in her head “Baekhyun is good too, he makes amazing bread and he knows how to use the coffee machine” He commented, but it sounded very robotic “I’m always the one making coffee, so is nice to be served for once” Kyung Soo came to the realization that the only time he cooked for her was when he made that lemon pie for his job interview. He was her right hand, she put all her trust in him, and he couldn’t bake her a simple cupcake. He would change that as soon as possible. He couldn’t allow Baekhyun to win. He immediately felt embarrassed by his childish thought. They stayed there for an hour and a half talking. As always, about work, but there was something more. He took advantage of the situation, the atmosphere and the sensation he got from having her so close, smiling, joking with him, sharing with him. He felt hopeful, and when he went back home, for the first time he allowed himself to…imagine.
She arrived the next morning ready to fight with a couple of suppliers and to work on finances. Those were her least favorite things, but she was the one in charge of them, and she was kind of good at it. She was halfway done with her first task when Kyung Soo knocked at her glass door and went in “I brought you this” He said, leaving a mini lemon tart on her desk “For the old times” He said, not meeting her eyes and turning around quickly, disappearing into the kitchen. She grabbed her tart and bit into it without the need of a fork “For the old times” She mumbled to herself, giggling. She remembered with effervescence that afternoon when they met. She wondered if she liked him from that very moment. When she noticed that he was smart enough to bring a sample of his baking, to the interview to become baker at a bakery. Maybe her standards were too low.
As Kyung Soo was beating the eggs for the merengue of the lemon pie, he began thinking about her. He has been doing so since last night. Having a one on one time with her was unique, to say the least. On his ride home, and then on his morning commute to his job he kept recalling those first months working with her. Her determination, her strength, her curiosity. The times he could hear her from her office being passive-aggressive with the fruit providers. Or every time he arrived and found her sleeping at her desk. He wished he was caring enough, or brave enough to have made her coffee when that happened, to bring her a freshly baked donna. Baekhyun would have done it for sure. He also remembered the days he left work, just to come back to pick something he had forgotten and found her crying in her office. Always out of frustration or fear. All those times that he saw her so vulnerable and hurt he wanted to hug her. His arms itched to reach her and pulled her into his chest. To take the worry away. Just pass some of his calm onto her. But he was never brave enough. What they had was too precious to risk. Was too new to risk.
But then one day he realized that it wasn’t too new, but old. His feelings were well settled in his chest, and he had lost time. He could risk things now. But she was looking at someone else now. He would have to live with the craving his arms felt for her.
--- That Friday they had a terribly busy morning. And they would have some problems for the afternoon too since Jisoo cut her finger and was currently at the ER with Baekhyun. She left the part-timer on front and went to the kitchen to check on Kyung Soo “How are you doing? Need any help?” “Yes, I need to finish decorating these cupcakes, someone is going to pick them up in an hour, could you do that so I can take care of the orders?” She could do that much. She rolled up her sleeves and got to work “Wait!” Kyung Soo stopped her, holding one of her arms. He pulled a scrunchy from his right pocket and turned her around, sliding his fingers in her hair “What are you doing?” Her voice was a bit higher due to the surprise “You can’t do this with your hair down, so I’m braiding it” She stood still. Although she was sure her hands were shaking. She was sure this was the closest he had ever been. She was sure this was the first time he was touching her. His fingers brushed her neck burning her. His movements were a tiny bit clumsy but efficient.  “You are good at this” She commented, trying to relieve the tension “I have practiced a lot with Jisoo, she always forgets to pull up her hair” She closed her eyes and released a long sight. He was already so close to her. Of course, they were. They work arm to arm, moving around the kitchen like a unit. But she and Kyung Soo also functioned as a unit. For a long time.  Sure, she wasn’t a chef, but they were partners. Not officially. He was a worker, just like Baekhyun and Jisoo. Bur for her he always felt like more. He built the menu and signature of the coffee shop. People went there for his cooking. This coffee shop belonged to both of them. -- She arrived the next morning and found Baekhyun moving around the kitchen slower than normal “You look blue,  is everything okay?” He sighed heavily, resting his body against the wall “Not really, You think Kyung Soo hates me?” “I don't think he knows how to feel that, why are you asking?” He walked with a heavy step to her side and rested his head on her shoulder like a gloomy puppy “I try to get close to him the little time our schedules overlap but he is so cold with me, he laughs but is always a shy laugh, meanwhile, Jisoo almost chokes to death the other day because of something I said” “He is very stoic” She tried to divert his line of thoughts “No,  he kind of ignores me and I want to be friends with him, he is so cool” “You want me to talk to him?” He lifted his head and went to the dressing room with slow steps “No, what are you going to tell him anyway? I just hope he doesn't have a bad image of me”  She followed him patting his back, understanding his feeling. She also wished Kyung Soo could give her more attention. “Good morning” Kyung Soo arrived, greeting and walking past them, into the dressing room “See?!” Baekhyun pointed, shaking her arm “Yeah, that was a bit cutting, you make us some coffee, I will check on him, maybe there's something going on” He nodded pouting and went back to the shop. She knocked the dressing room door, asking him if he was dressed “Yeah,  come in” She opened the door and walked in, looking around, being nonchalant “Hello there chef” “Hello boss” She stood behind him and notice him having trouble tightening his apron “Let me do that, is everything alright?” She asked him as she tightened the straps around his waist “Yes” He answered, his voice low “Everything alright with Jisoo?” “Couldn't be better” She made a double knot and tapped his shoulder telling him she was done “Everything ok with Baekhyun?” “Sure”   “You like him?” He sat down, taking off his shoes “He is great, although we don’t share the kitchen that much, why are you asking?” “No reason, just making sure everything is ok” “Sure, ok, then if you are done, I need to change my pants” She turned around quickly and left the room. When she went to the front of the shop, Baekhyun had already served three coffees and had a plate with a loaf of bread and butter “He says everything is ok” “You think he would tell you if he hated me” “I trust he tells me everything, so yeah, don’t worry Baekhyun” “Ok, if you say so, you think he would come to have breakfast with us?” She went to the back again and invite Kyung Soo to have breakfast with them. Kyung Soo accepted and when she arrived with him, she saw how Baekhyun’s imaginary tail began wiggling.
When she asked him to go and have breakfast with them, he really wanted to say no. He had some things to do, and also, if he could avoid seeing them act like old buddies, he would do it. But her questions in the dressing room told him something. She wanted to know how he felt about Baekhyun. He knew she cared about his input about everything, and if she wanted his approval on Baekhyun, she would have it. He liked him after all. He was a good guy. And share breakfast with them could be good.
----
She was talking over the phone with her lawyer when Baekhyun knocked on her door. She gave him a signal to come in and he sat at her desk waiting for her to finish. She was about to end a 20 minutes long call to ask her lawyer what she had to do to make Kyung Soo her business partner. There was a lot of paperwork involved and a lot of visits to the public notary, but it could be done if they both wanted it. She hadn’t asked him yet. She didn’t know how. She hung up and Baekhyun asked immediately what was she talking about since he could hear the last part of the call “I’m thinking about making Kyung Soo my business partner” “He isn’t already?” “No, but he is my right hand, this business his almost half his in terms of development and success, so I want him to have a part of it” Baekhyun looked lost “What are you talking about?” “What?” “I thought you and he had something, no?” She felt her cheeks blush “No, no... Why would you think that?” Baekhyun moved on his seat awkwardly “I don't know, there's always this weird tension between the two of you,  and you guys are always business business business,  but you are all the time stealing glances from each other when the other is not looking, and when you talk you guys are always way too close” His voice lost volume by the end of the sentence “I.. We just..” “You don't have to explain anything... But I may have told you something that you didn't know, so I better go now” She tried to stop him, she needed to know about this weird tension and the stolen glances, but Baekhyun was quick and left the coffee before she could reach him.
----- One Monday morning she got an envelope from a tourism website informing her that the coffee shop was selected as a “One of the coffee shops to visit in Seoul”. The four of them went for dinner that night to celebrate. As always Kyung Soo took care of grilling and serving, always putting more meat on her plate. When Baekhyun and Jisoo complained he said “She’s our boss” His voice was serious, but he was grinning. After a bunch of beers and maybe half a pig she was ready to go. She told the rest they were free to stay and handed her card to Kyung Soo. She got up and Baekhyun grabbed her wrist, stopping her “Let’s share a cab” She agreed gladly, she hated the idea of riding the taxi alone in those conditions.
Kyung Soo felt sick all of a sudden. They were so friendly. They were so friendly since day one. And he was aware that Baekhyun was that kind of person, even he felt close to him the first time they met, but this was different. Baekhyun knew where she lived.  He had known her and been working with her for more than a year and he still didn’t know her address. Meanwhile, Baekhyun was holding her arm to help her stand up. It was over for him.
He had lost his chance. And Baekhyun took his.
-----
She had a good night of sleep that night. She woke up before her alarm went off and the warm water reached the perfect temperature. On her way to work, she didn’t meet a single red light and the coffee Baekhyun prepared for her was especially good. She greeted Jisoo at the kitchen and ran into Kyung Soo when he walked out of the dressing room. She greeted him happily because she was feeling happy and seeing him added to the feeling, but he only nodded at her. It was like a bucket of cold water. All her happiness faded away. Not even in his worst days he had been so cutting. Why was he acting so distant? She tried to convince herself that she was overreacting, reading too much into it, but during the morning she realized that she wasn’t. Even Baekhyun noticed it. Before leaving he commented to her between whispers “Did you say something to him?” “No, no that I remember, Did I? Something happened last night?” “No, nothing, when we were there everything was alright, we talked a lot and laughed with everything I said or did, he even poured me several drinks, and then we…oh crap” Baekhyun mouth formed a perfect ‘o’ “What? What is it?” “You don’t get it? I’m sorry, I feel that this is my fault, at least part of it, ok… I need to go” He grabbed his backpack and left in a hurry, without giving her the chance to ask for more. She cursed at him, still clueless of why Kyung Soo was acting like this, and only with her. That day they had to close the coffee shop early due to the cut of the water service. By 6 the shop was empty, everything washed and ready to close. She arranged everything at her office, moving languidly around the room, still sad about Kyung Soo’s cold shoulder. She wanted to go home and cry maybe. She didn’t like it, she hadn’t heard his voice all day long. He didn’t come to her office not even once to ask her to call the suppliers, or for her to taste something. She was going to steal some donuts from the refrigerator, go home and cry on the shower maybe. She was about to get her period, she was especially emotional, that’s why she allowed herself some self-love. She almost got a heart attack when she walked into the kitchen and met Kyung Soo with his jacket on, reclining against one of the counters, his head down, looking at his hands. When he heard her, he looked up, and hold her stare for a while “Can we talk?” She couldn’t find her voice, so she only nodded and walked next to him. She was terrified. She knew there was something going on with him, and his face of worry and shame prove her right. She wanted to make him feel better. To get rid of that dark stare, help him. Maybe this was the right time to talk to him about becoming business partners, maybe like this, his mood could improve “I need to talk to you about something… I have been thinking about this for a while, is an idea that in the last months has been developing in my head” She saw her hands shaking. She knew he wasn’t talking about a cake or a change in the menu, no one gets so serious to talk about that, not even him. Her last boyfriend said some similar words when he broke up with her. Those words, with that voice and that somber disposition never meant something good. Kyung Soo was about to tell her something terrible “Are you ok? You went pale all of the sudden” She looked up from her hands and found him looking at her face, his hand so close to her cheek she could almost felt its warmth. His entire semblance changed. He was still serious, but worried, his eyes big and round scanning her, searching what was disturbing her. He asked her a couple of times and she didn’t answer until she felt slightly better and under control  “I…it’s just…you have been acting so weird today, and now you are being so serious now, I can’t tell why… I’m terrified” She was sure she wasn’t crying, but she heard her voice break.  Finally, finally after months of craving it, he grabbed her face with careful hands, caressed her cheeks down to her neck and shoulders and pulled her into a hug. He held her by the nape, his right hand sinking in her silky hair, and his other arm held her softly, pulling her against his chest as close as he could. She rested her head on his shoulder, her arms went around his waist and although his hug wasn’t tight, it calmed her down a little bit. She felt him speak. She felt his breathing against her shoulder but couldn’t hear what he was saying. She let go of him and searched for his eyes, but he didn’t meet hers “What did you say?” “I’m sorry” “For what?” He let go of her, his arms falling from her back to his side “What I was going to tell you is that…I have been thinking about moving jobs, maybe is time for me to move on” Her arms went to his waist again. This time her grip was tight. The panic his words caused her stirred her with desperation. If she had to stay like this, hugging him for the rest of her life so he wouldn’t leave, she would do it. She kept asking him not to leave, begging for him to stay. At first, he just let her be, he hugged her too, rubbing her back trying to calm her down, but it came to no avail. Kyung Soo grabbed her arms and unclasped them with a lot of difficulties. He called her name, trying to calm her down, but she held to his arms, still shaken by his news “This could be good for me, and for you too, Jisoo will stay in charge, she cooks the kind of things you like, and maybe a new chef with a new approach could be better for the coffee shop” She was in tears, her lips shaking as the air left her mouth in short and quick puffs. He got worried about her, he felt guilty too “No! No Kyung Soo, you can’t leave me, this coffee is what it is because of you” “Is not, this is your dream, I just helped you” “No, without you I couldn’t have done this, you are my chef, you are my partner Kyung Soo, please don’t…” Kyung Soo took a step back releasing himself from her grip. He looked unsettled, shaking his head, his eyes saddened “Just that? You want me here just because I'm your chef?” “What do you mean?” She asked, cleaning her tears with her sleeve. Kyung Soo took a deep breath after another until he could speak calmly “That's the only thing I am to you right?” She looked into his eyes for a long time. Kyung Soo now was being inquisitive giving her back a stare that intimidated her because she felt naked in front of him. She was sure she never showed her adoration in front of him. She was always professional, they were never flirty or platonic. They did trust each other and talked a lot, but she never felt anything from him, and she was sure she never showed anything more than admiration and respect towards him. She needed to change that “No! No, you are more” Build up the braveness to say more than that was harder than she would expect. “What am I then? And please don’t say your business partner” She noticed in his voice that they were equally desperate. They were equally frustrated and scared about what was happening. There was a lot to lose with this conversation. She could confess and lose her chef and a friend. But if he was so decided to leave, she needed to share with him how much she had fallen for him, because she loved him. And if he decided to leave after her confession and not look for her ever again, at least she got to tell him how she felt. She just wished she could have told him sooner “Kyung Soo…you are all that, but since always you have been my friend” He closed his eyes sighing in frustration “And I love you, I just… I love you so much, you can’t leave me, please don’t leave me” She finished with a string of voice, her hands in fists, her eyes closed, scared. Kyung Soo took two long steps whispering her name, and as she looked up, he cupped her jaw and covered her mouth with his own. She gasped and it was the sweetest sound he had ever heard. Kyung Soo grunted softly in return as he dragged his fingertips along her jaw. Kyung Soo’s lips were soft and warm, but calm. It wasn’t a hungry kiss or desperate. He was testing, keeping himself in line. Despite the shock, she still thought she could spend the rest of her days kissing him without getting tired of it. He pulled back just far enough to let the air back into their lungs. His eyes gazed deeply into her eyes, asking for permission, although it was a bit too late now. She closed her eyes and he couldn’t resist too long away from her. He tilted his head catching her breath, and this time he kissed her with intensity. Intensity that she matched. The kiss itself was more tentative than anything, mostly because they were both unsure of what was going on. But she was the first one settling it when she caught his lower lip and suddenly sucked on it. Kyung Soo’s warmth was almost suffocating, and she wanted to taste it. He encircled one arm around her waist, placed the other hand on her nape as if locking her with his body so she wouldn’t leave him. He didn’t want to hold back anymore, he wanted her, he loved her, and she loved him too. Now it was the time to make up for the lost time. Her hands were on his shoulders, his neck, his arms, the sides of his face. It was desperate, but she didn’t care. She didn’t care about the tiny frustrated sounds spilling from the back of her throat. She didn’t care that he was leaving her. He was quitting and leaving her behind. She backed away, looking at him wildly “You…Kyung Soo, you…you are lea…” He moved quickly to grab her by the nape, tugging her close so they could rest their foreheads together “It’s ok, I’m here, I’m not leaving” He breathed, stroking the back of her neck tenderly. She still looked fairly terrified, her pupils blown wide and shaking all over, but completely still in his hold “Kyung Soo” She called again, but he shook his head and moved his other hand to stroke her cheek softly “I love you” He whispered, although he knew it was not enough to reassure her now, even after the kiss “You really do?” “We kissed” He whispered against her lips, feeling stupid by saying that, but his mind couldn’t form better words. His fingers caressed the sides of her mouth and god, he wanted to do it again, wanted to seal his mouth over hers for another taste, just to feed that need he has been feeling for months. But he held himself. Instead, he took one of her hands and placed it over his chest, the spot where his heart was beating like crazy. Closing her eyes, she let her senses take over everything, wondering for how long she has been feeling like this, if this is what falling in love feels like, if this is what he feels like. She called his name again, and Kyung Soo called hers. They giggled together, feeling some of the tension dissipate “And…and what does this mean?” She stuttered "No idea" He whispered, and they giggled again. She knew what this was, he knew it too, so she leaned in and kissed him again. When they pulled apart and she opened her eyes she found him smiling brightly. He grabbed her by the waist, lifting and dropping her on the counter. She hugged his shoulders and rejoiced in the feeling of his arms holding her “You are not leaving right?” “No” “Why did you say that?” His ears went red and he looked down ashamed “I thought you liked Baekhyun, and I just couldn’t go through that” She called his name softly, feeling sorry for him, “Just to be clear, I don’t like him” “I know now” She made him look at her again, rubbing his nape “That’s why you were so cold to him?” He nodded, looking at her again “Ok, make sure to be nicer with him ok? He was very sad because he thinks you hate him and he really likes you” Kyung Soo’s eyebrows went up funnily “That’s why you asked me if I liked him?” “Yeah” “I thought it was because you wanted my approval to date him” She was shocked to hear that, and also felt incredibly guilty “Kyung Soo, for how long have you being suffering?” She caressed his face, kissing his cheeks “Kiss me some more so I can forget about that” She grabbed his cute face and kissed him softly, like a caress, an apology. Kyung Soo pulled back from the kiss, his hands moving to her thighs “What you wanted to say before?” She looked clueless for a while, not quite remembering what happened before. She took half a minute to go over the most recent events “Oh yes! I had a proposal for you, here” She grabbed his hand and jumped down the counter, walking with him to her office. If she was lucky enough, after that afternoon she would get a new boyfriend and a new business partner.

familiar stranger (part three).
Tumblr media
Jongdae had come around to your side of the car, an arm offered out to you. He raised an eyebrow, waiting with a smile.
You took it with a smile of your own, letting your hand curl around the crook of his arm. Walking together like this, it was easy to forget about everything that had happened to you, all of your worries that had been plaguing you for weeks.
To pretend that you were a woman, out with her husband.

In almost no time, you were just as comfortable around Kyungsoo and Baekhyun as you were with Jongdae. They were also helpful in filling in the blanks, restoring what had been lost in your mind.
“And when we got to the beach, we found out that we left all of our food back at the apartment!” Baekhyun exclaimed, recounting a summer trip your group of friends had taken a few years ago.
“No!” you gasped out, just as engrossed in the story as he was.
“Yep, all of our barbecue stuff, the smores, everything. We thought someone had taken the food stuff and put it in one of our cars, but it was all still packed up and sitting in our kitchen.”
“And that’s why we always triple check before we go on trips,” Kyungsoo added with a wry smile.
“Or make sure that there’s a good restaurant in the area,” Jongdae piped in. He picked up a forkful of toast laden with whipped cream and bananas, popping it into his mouth before sighing in content.
You were just as satisfied with your own food, thick slices of toast topped with strawberries and melted chocolate. When you had ordered, the other three men exchanged a look, something you questioned them about after the waitress left.
“You are starting to remember,” Jongdae said, eyes wide and full of hope.
“What? What do you mean?”
Jongdae grew confused, tiny wrinkle lines appearing on his forehead. “It’s your usual order. Either that, or the toasted BLT.”
“Oh. I just picked it because it sounded good,” you mumbled, unable to meet Jongdae’s gaze. You felt bad for raising his hopes for nothing.
Kyungsoo and Baekhyun watched as Jongdae’s face softened, one of his hands coming to rest over your own. “I’m sure you’ll love it. And even if you don’t, I’ll share my food with you.”
Jongdae wanted to fawn over how cute you were as your face pinked, both touched and shy at the same time. Sure enough, when the food arrived, you loved it just as much as you did before — if not more. Jongdae still offered to share his food with you, but you declined. “I don’t want to take your food,” you explained.
“It’s not taking if I’m sharing it with you.”
You hesitated before leaning closer, letting Jongdae feed you the forkful he had been holding out to you. “This one’s really good too,” you said, amazed by how delicious everything at the cafe was.
“I’m glad you like it.” Jongdae watched fondly as you continued to enjoy your food. The way your lips curled in delight with each bite, the crinkling of your eyes as you smiled at something the others said — it all felt like another normal day out to Jongdae. He flinched upon hearing Baekhyun calling out to him, an impish smile on his face.
“Like what you see?” Baekhyun asked, winking in your direction.
Jongdae immediately struck out with his foot, bumping into Baekhyun’s underneath the table. Much to your confusion, the two men were soon caught in a staring contest, Jongdae’s eyebrows drawn low while Baekhyun continued to giggle to himself.
Kyungsoo sighed, ignoring his other friends as he turned to you. “Have you thought of coming by April & Flower? Not to work,” he added quickly upon seeing your worried expression. “Just to see your workspace. I’m sure you’re gonna love it.”
You chewed on your bottom lip, weighing the pros and cons in your mind. Yes, you were nervous about meeting your coworkers and your boss for the first time all over again, but at the same time, you had been itching to jump back into a restaurant kitchen and to feel at home in your element. Plus, you had heard nothing but good things about your job.
“Okay,” you agreed, courage rising when Jongdae nodded at you reassuringly. “To be honest, part of me has missed being at work too.”
“She’s still been cooking,” Jongdae added, eyes shining with pride. “Her food’s just as good as before, if not better.”
You shook your head, embarrassed by the sudden praise and yet still thankful for Jongdae’s sweet words. “You’re exaggerating.”
Jongdae captured your gaze in a fixed stare, eyes brimming with a sudden warmth. “It’s true,” he said enthusiastically, his hand coming up to rest on top of yours. It only lingered long enough to squeeze your hand before slipping away, much to your disappointment.
“Feel free to drop by whenever you can,” Kyungsoo spoke up, startling you out of your stupor. You had been so caught up in Jongdae that you had completely forgotten where you were. “I’m sure everyone will be happy to see you there.”
Your smile mirrored that of your friend’s, although nowhere near as heart-shaped as his. “Thanks. I’ll definitely be there.”
The rest of your meal was filled with cheer and endless jokes, easily making your table the brightest spot in the cafe. By the end of it, your sides were sore from laughing so much.
You wore a grin on your face even as you got into Jongdae’s car, waving to Kyungsoo and Baekhyun as they headed towards their cars. “If every outing with them is like this, I might end up losing my voice,” you told Jongdae.
He chuckled as he got his seatbelt on, waiting for you to do the same before he started driving. “Keeping up with Baekhyun does take some getting used to. That kid can talk for hours on end.”
“It was fun though. I hope we have time to do this more often.”
Jongdae spared you a quick glance, corners of his lips lifting as he continued to drive. “Of course. I’m sure they’ll be glad to hear that too.”
You stared out the window, relieved to find that you could recognize some buildings and street names. Driving around with Minseok during the past week had helped you to familiarize yourself with the city, although there were still many areas that you couldn’t remember. “Where are we going?” you asked Jongdae, squinting to get a better look at the street sign up ahead.
“Home. Did you still want to pick up your cookbook?”
In all of the excitement in the past hour, you had forgotten about going back to “your” place. Home, Jongdae had called it.
“Yeah,” you answered. Your fingers lay restlessly in your lap, tapping against the fabric of your jeans while Jongdae drove. It was only now that you realized that you would be going back not just to Jongdae’s place, but to the place that both of you had stayed in together. In the past, you had also called it home.
But what was it to you now?
Tumblr media
You waited, unsure of what to do while you stood in the living room. Jongdae had gone to search for the cookbook, an adorable pout on his lips after he failed to find it in the kitchen. “That’s weird. Maybe it’s in the office?” He disappeared down the hallway, leaving you alone.
You wondered if you should follow him or not. This was your equally your house, after all. But at the same time, you felt like a guest in your own home. You drank everything in, studying everything that you could see from the CDs in the shelf beside the TV, to the framed photos on the wall. A tall, wooden bookshelf was almost completely filled with books and other knickknacks. You shuffled over in your cat-print adorned house slippers, hand reaching up to run over the spines of some of the titles. It reassured you to see that you could recognize almost all of the books that you saw there. Many of them were longtime favorites, the spines well broken in.
Further search ended up with no sign of the cookbook anywhere, although you did find a good handful of other cookbooks that you remembered flipping through. The sound of Jongdae shouting in excitement startled you, moving you from where you had been sitting on the floor to study the bottom shelf.
“I found it!” Jongdae exclaimed, holding it up high in one hand as he came back into the living room. He placed his free hand on his chest, slightly out of breath from searching so fervently. “God, I was starting to worry. It was under a pile of notebook paper,” he told you, holding the book out.
Your eyes raked over its appearance, more of a journal than a cookbook. For a second, you could only stare at the leather cover of the journal. Your hand came up slowly, fingers trembling until it touched the spine of the book. Taking it from Jongdae’s hand, you opened it up to the first page.
A comprehensive table of contents greeted you, numbered and even color-coded. It was honestly funny to see that you still had tendencies to go all out when it came to organizing, much like Minseok.
A quick turn of the page brought you to recipe number one: “Minnie’s Coffee Crumble Cake”. Underneath the recipe was a picture of Minseok, posing with a plate of cake in his hands as he grinned. A corner of your lips lifted involuntarily at this, your brother’s cheerful expression instantly brightening your own mood.
You flipped through the rest of the pages, finding recipes that you remembered making even from your early days in culinary school. There was one you had learned from Kyungsoo, something you named “Soo’s Spicy Spaghetti”. The picture for this recipe got a small giggle out of you, your smile growing wider. Kyungsoo and Chanyeol, another friend from culinary school, sat side by side at a table. Kyungsoo eyed Chanyeol warily while the other held a glass of water to his mouth, pain visible in the curve of his eyebrows, eyes screwed closed. Even the recipe for the green tea cheesecake that Jongdae had mentioned was there, inciting curiosity and an urge to try it out when you had time.
The next page caught you off guard, titled “Jongdae’s Favorite”. Your eyes skipped over the picture, focusing on the list of steps instead. Skimming through them, you discovered that this was a recipe for a type of kimchi stew that you had no recollection of making. You had made other variations of this before, but this particular recipe failed to ring any bells. You let out a small gasp once you took a closer look at the picture on this page, fingers running over the surface of the photograph. In it, you and Jongdae sat side by side at the dining table. Jongdae was kissing you on the cheek, a smile on his lips as his eyes twinkled with mischief. You had a spoon halfway to your mouth, even as you appeared to be laughing. Both of you looked so happy, like neither one of you had a single care in the world.
Why did everything have to change? “Are you okay?”
You looked up, so lost in the contents of the cookbook that you had forgotten Jongdae was only a few feet away. He watched you worriedly, hand instinctively coming up to your cheek before he paused, painfully pulling it back.
“You’re crying,” he whispered in horror.
One of your hands shot up to your face, only to find a couple of tears beginning to trail down the surface. Your eyes widened in disbelief — when did you start crying?
“Let me grab some tissues.” Before you could protest, Jongdae was gone once more. You hastily wiped your tears away, furiously trying to blink away any remnants left lingering in your eyes.
Jongdae came back, trusty box in hand as he pulled a few tissues out. You took them with a small mumble of thanks, wiping the last traces of tears away and rubbing your nose.
"Sorry," you mumbled, sniffing as you dabbed at your face. "I don't even know why I'm crying." You laughed, the sound dry and self-deprecating.
Jongdae pried the used tissues from your hands, exchanging them for a couple of fresh ones from the tissue box. You were taken aback when he got up, briefly disappearing into the kitchen to dispose of your tissues. He came back to find you sitting on the couch, knees brought up to your chest while your cookbook lay open on the cushion beside you. Jongdae hesitated, unsure of where to sit.
You looked up, feeling his eyes on you. With a wobbly smile, you patted the free spot on your other side. "Come sit. I don't bite."
Smiling with relief, Jongdae was more than happy to comply. If you were still able to crack a joke after crying, Jongdae knew that you were feeling better. He sat down gingerly, licking at his lips as he struggled to find words sufficient enough to sooth you. Thankfully, you were the one to break the silence.
"Are there more of these?" you asked, a hand running down the open page of your cookbook.
Jongdae shook his head. "This is the only one that I've seen."
You lifted the cookbook, resting against your knees as you stared down at the pages. It was still open to the picture of you and Jongdae, a blissful memory preserved forever in the confines of a small photo. "Do you cook too?" you asked, eyes drinking in the photo one last time before glancing up to look at Jongdae.
"A little. Mom always says I add too much salt, though." Jongdae fiddled with his ear in embarrassment, a soft rumbling of laughter masking it.
The sounds of your giggles interwove with his, a familiar melody to your ear. You took so much delight in this, warmth blossoming in your chest and soothing the turbulent waves of anxiety.
Both of you went through the rest of the book, Jongdae pointing out little details here and there. None of the pictures took you off guard like the one of you and Jongdae had, but there you still felt a pang of guilt and sorrow when you came across something that you couldn't remember.
A picture of Baekhyun with whipped cream on his nose smiled up at you on the page for strawberry shortcake, another of Minseok blowing on a spoonful of seafood stew.
"Thank you for this," you told Jongdae once you reached the last page, shutting the notebook.
Jongdae shook his head, unwilling to take all of the credit for this. "You have yourself to thank too. This wouldn't exist if you hadn't started writing in it in the first place."
Your eyes dropped down to the cover, fingers running along the notebook's spine as you shrugged bashfully. "Still, I appreciate it. I really had fun today. A couple of times, I even forgot about everything that's going on."
It was easy to notice how your face fell, the glow of your face dimming as you felt the full weight of your troubles again. Jongdae couldn't help himself — moving closer and wrapping his arms around you before he could help it.
He could feel you freeze against him, and was about to pull back when you returned the hug just as tightly. Your hair tickled the side of his neck, and while Jongdae would have played around and pretended to be annoyed in the past, he simply closed his eyes, savoring the moment.
He really missed this — not just having you in his arms, but having you, the real you around. It was almost a month since the accident, and while Jongdae had grown more acquainted with living in a home by himself, he still missed you. He missed the light you radiated, no matter what you were doing. He longed to hear your voice fill up the empty space in the apartment, to roll over in bed in the middle of the night and fall back asleep to the sound of your steady breathing.
"Jongdae?" you said, voice muffled from where you spoke against his shirt.
"Yeah?" One of his hands came up to stroke the back of your head, a content smile appearing on his face at the familiarity of it all.
"If... if my memories don't came back, would you be disappointed?"
Jongdae paused, pulling back slightly so that he could look at you. He still held onto you, hand cradling the back of your head lovingly. "Not in you. I could never be disappointed in you. I can't lie and say that I wouldn't be sad, but I wouldn't want it to get in between us. We can't make those same memories again, but we can make new ones. You're still the same Y/N."
Throughout all of this, Jongdae stared at you so tenderly, gaze full of trust in you and what the two of you had that you knew if you stared at him for too long, you'd only end up in tears again. You buried your face into the crook of his neck again, not missing how Jongdae gasped in surprise.
You only squeezed him tighter, arms latched around his waist as Jongdae picked up where he had left off on stroking your hair.
It didn't matter that you couldn't remember anything about the place you had once called home, about the a good chunk of the things that made up your life. Here, in this moment, in the arms of the person you had once loved, it was as if nothing had changed at all.
Tumblr media
You hesitated, staring through the restaurant windows at the scene within. Although you had decided to come near the end of the day, there were still a substantial amount of people eating inside April & Flower.
Your old workplace.
Irene, the restaurant manager and your boss, had been calm yet friendly when you called her. She encouraged you to come and drop by, "whenever you were free", in her own words. You didn't want to inconvenience the staff by showing up during the busiest time, so you held off on arriving until an hour before closing time.
Further inspection showed a few faces going back and forth throughout the restaurant, a couple of young men that you didn't recognize. Kyungsoo was hidden away in the kitchen, the only person you knew.
Maybe it would be better to just come back at the end of the shift, you thought to yourself. Just as you were about to walk away, one of the men inside spotted you, a grin breaking out on his face as he waved in your direction. Tentatively, you waved back, watching as he dashed off.
Taking in a deep breath, you forced yourself to walk to the entrance, hand lingering over the door handle before it swung open. Lucky for you, the door swung inside, revealing a petite woman and the man you saw earlier.
"Y/N!" she greeted you. You relaxed upon recognizing the voice from your phone call.
"Hi, Irene, right?"
"Yes! I'm glad Mark spotted you."
Mark, the man beside her, only smiled wider. Upon closer look, he appeared more like a boy than a man. "You could've come in instead of watching us through the window," he said frankly.
You blushed, feeling the heat warm up your face while Irene reached up to tweak Mark's ear lightly. "Don't embarrass her on your first day back." Turning back to you, her smile was more gentle. "Come inside." You let her take you by the hand, pulling you into the noise and bustle that made up April & Flower.
Irene began to lead you on a tour of the restaurant, introducing you to the rest of the staff there. You met Junmyeon, the assistant manager, as well as Lucas, a busboy like Mark who looked just as young. The waiters for that day, Jaehyun, Johnny and Ten were too busy to do much but say hi and tell you how glad they were to see you again before they got back to their tables.
"And now for the part I'm sure you've been waiting for," Irene said as she led you to the kitchen. She pushed the door open, an assault of fragrances and sounds attacking your senses.
It was easy to spot Kyungsoo, cheeks pink from standing over the stove for extended periods of time. He glanced over his shoulder when he heard the door open, nodding to you with a smile before turning his attention back to the food.
Irene introduced you to the other line chefs, Taeyong and Mingyu before pulling the head chef over. The man beamed down at you, hands coming up to rest on your shoulders as you stared back at him in surprise.
"Y/N, we missed you! God, this place has been crazy without you." He pulled you close for a short hug, patting your back briefly before letting go.
"Kibum, you need to introduce yourself to her, remember?" Irene watched both of you with an amused smile, noticing how you were left at a loss for words at this warm greeting.
"Oh, right. Don't listen to her, the only people that call me Kibum are my parents, although I guess I'll make an exception for you, Boss." He winked at Irene before fixing his gaze on you. "You can call me Key." He wiped his hand on his apron before offering it out to you.
You didn't know anything about Key, but from what you had gleamed in the past couple of minutes, you liked him already. "Nice to meet you again, Key," you said, shaking his hand with a grin.
"Likewise." He pointed to the bustling area behind him, one eyebrow jumping up. "You wanna come try it out?"
It was tempting, but you also didn't want to mess up any orders. "I'm not ready, I don't know anything about this menu," you replied, although you couldn't look away from the preparations.
"She's right," Irene spoke up. "But if you want to, you can shadow them for today." When you didn't respond, she patted your shoulder lightly, a knowing smile on her face. "Go ahead."
Key found a spare apron for you, and immediately jumped back into work. You watched from a distance, keeping an eye on the other men more than Kyungsoo. Having known him for a while, there wasn't much that surprised you when it came to his technique. The other men, however, were complete strangers. It was mesmerizing to see how skillful they were, knives easily cutting through meat and vegetable, quick fingers adding finishing touches to the plates before they were sent off.
Taeyong smiled to himself when be noticed how your eyes couldn't leave the plate of braised beef he just handed off to Ten. "Do you want to try some?" he offered.
"Are you sure?" Just at that moment, to your mortification, your stomach grumbled.
With a chuckle, Taeyong waved you over to the pan he had been using, scooping up a spoonful of the sauce and offering it to you.
You took the spoon gratefully, eyes squeezing shut in joy as you let the rich flavor wash over you. "This is so good," you gushed, eyes opening to see how proud Taeyong looked.
"Thanks. But hey, you've learned how to do this too. With some time and practice, you'll have these recipes down like the back of your hand."
"He's right," Mingyu chimed in from where he stood cubing a slab of beef. "It's still with you, in your head. Your brain just has to retrace those pathways again.” He paused to point to his head with a gloved hand, winking in your direction.
"Hey, who do you think you are, Einstein?" Taeyong asked, laughing as he pretended to shove Mingyu. "Where did you even hear about that?"
"Lots of documentaries," the other man replied breezily.
The rest of the dinner hour passed by smoothly, only a few minor hiccups here and there. You got to see how Irene and Junmyeon managed the restaurant, constantly in awe at how much trust they placed in their employees — including you.
It was nearing the end of the restaurant's hours, and you were preparing to go home. They wouldn't let you go without feeding you, and all for free, no matter how much you protested. Much to your delight, Taeyong set a plate of braised beef on the counter before you, the same dish he had seen you staring at earlier. Kyungsoo had sneakily slid a small bowl of mashed potatoes beside it, beaming proudly when you gushed over how buttery they were.
Irene came over while the rest of the staff started to close up, chin resting on her hand as she watched you eat. "How are you doing? Jongdae doesn't tell us much, and Kyungsoo says even less when we ask him. But you seem like you're doing okay." Her voice trailed off, waiting for you to refute or back up her statements.
You swallowed the bite of sauteed vegetables in your mouth, nodding in response. "I'm doing better everyday. Coming here helped a lot too. I feel antsy just waiting at Minseok's house all day, looking through old photos and trying to remember everything. Even though I didn't do anything here, just being around everyone while they worked made me feel like I was a part of it."
A sudden yell from beyond the kitchen doors startled both of you, Irene sitting up and peering out the window in the door until turning back to face you. "You know you're always welcome here, whether you're working or not."
"I want to work," you said enthusiastically. "I just don't want to slow anyone down."
"Trust me, I think you'd get the hang of things pretty quickly." She reached out to pat your hand before standing up. "Just keep it in mind."
You nodded, watching as she pushed open the kitchen door and headed out onto the restaurant floor. Little glimpses of your past like this, like your outings with Jongdae or Minseok helped to ease you back into this lifestyle, like getting back on a bicycle after so many years.
Although you couldn't remember these little details, everything that you did just felt right, like pulling on a well-loved sweater that had been hidden in the back of your closet, or falling into bed at the end of a long, long day.
Like coming home.
Tumblr media
Over the next couple of weeks, on the days that you weren't shadowing and learning from your co-workers, you met up with Jongdae. In this past week, you had spent a day at the movies with him and Minseok, another afternoon with him checking out a tapas place that Kyungsoo had recommended. One night, he had even fallen asleep on Minseok's couch while both of you were watching a movie. He slumped down in his spot, head leaning against the couch back as his mouth fell open, a thin trail of drool threatening to slide down onto his shirt. You tried to stifle your giggles, cooing over how slumber made him look five years younger. Minseok found you still staring at Jongdae when he came out of the kitchen from washing dishes.
"What are you doing?" he whispered. Both of you froze as Jongdae snored lightly, but still remained still.
"Nothing," you whispered back. "He just looks so... so peaceful like this."
"Want me to wake him up?"
You glared at your brother over your shoulder, eyes narrowing as he grinned devilishly. "Don't even dare."
"Alright. I'm just saying, he's gonna hurt his neck sleeping like this."
Minseok did have a point there. But you hated to wake Jongdae up when he looked so adorable in this state. Sighing in defeat, you shook Jongdae's shoulder gently. "Jongdae?" you said, voice hushed. "Wake up, you're going to hurt yourself like that."
With a reluctant groan, Jongdae stretched his arms out and straightened up. He rubbed the trail of spit on his face away with the back of his hand, ears turning pink when he realized that he had been caught sleeping and drooling in front of you. "Oh god, how long have I been asleep?" He fumbled over his words, still groggy and out of sorts.
"Not too long." You smiled sympathetically, already attuned to how embarrassment looked on Jongdae's face. "You can stay the night if you want to."
Jongdae's face lit up briefly before a worried furrow found its way between his eyebrows. "I wish I could, but I can't. I have to head in early to work tomorrow."
"It's fine, don't worry. Will you be okay driving?"
"Yeah." Jongdae let out a long yawn, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. He looked much more awake after this, although his shoulders were still hunched over with fatigue. You eyed him skeptically.
"Are you sure?" you asked.
"She's right. I can drive you home, Dae," Minseok offered.
"I'll be fine you guys, really." Jongdae stood up, wincing at the exertion on his legs after sitting for so long. He met your eye, sending you a reassuring smile.
Still worried, you insisted on walking him out to his car, even when he protested. "It's too cold outside," he argued.
You rolled your eyes, slipping your shoes on as Jongdae finished tying up his laces. "I'll be fine, I'm not that fragile."
Jongdae smiled to himself at your words, watching fondly as you rummaged through the closet for a spare jacket. "You're right," he said to himself.
The hallways of Minseok's apartment complex were empty, save for a couple walking their dog. Jongdae had managed to snag a spot on the street right in front of the building — usually coveted by visitors. He turned towards you, hands in his pockets and nose beginning to turn pink from the frosty air. "I'll be okay, Y/N. I don't want you to catch a cold."
"It's gonna take a lot more than that for me to get sick." You giggled softly, soft puffs appearing in the air before you. "Drive safely, okay?"
Jongdae nodded, unlocking the car and slipping into the driver's seat. He glanced over when you knocked on the passenger side window, rolling it down and leaning over.
"Sweet dreams, Dae."
He was stunned, both by the soft request and the unexpected use of his nickname. Ever since you had awoken in the hospital, you had stuck to calling him by his first name. He didn't mind, but it was much more touching to hear the well-loved nickname falling from your lips after so long.
"Good night, darling," he replied, eyes sparkling with an emotion you couldn't place.
You thought back to the home videos you had watched, of hearing that same word in your voice whenever Jongdae's face came into the camera's view. Shellshocked, you could do nothing but nod dumbly before stepping back, watching as Jongdae gave you a final wave before driving away.
Darling. Such a simple, old-fashioned word. And yet, it held so much meaning for both of you.
Minseok watched this small exchange with a knowing smile on his lips from his window, arms crossed over his chest as if he were observing a baseball game. He couldn't hear anything, but he had his guesses about what happened.
"They're still the same as ever," he chuckled to himself, leaving his perch as you began the trek back upstairs to the apartment.
Neither you nor Jongdae spoke about that moment afterwards, but it was clear that something had shifted between the two of you. Dr. Suh was quick to point it out during your sessions, gleaming a subtle change in your relationship from the way you talked. You were more vivacious, more animated when talking about Jongdae. Your praise for him came easily, adoration for his sweet manners and bubbly demeanor always bringing a glow to your face.
There was no doubt now that these outings you two shared were dates, especially when Jongdae spent more time in front of the mirror trying to fix his hair while across the city, you searched for the perfect outfit.
The first time that you held his hand, you were positive that there couldn't be any other person whose hand fit so perfectly with yours. Jongdae had been surprised when you reached out for him after a walk home from a shopping trip, eyes going repeatedly from your face to your joined hands as if he worried that this was an accident. You merely squeezed it lightly, swinging your joined hands back and forth until he was giggling that infectious laugh of his.
Both of you were waiting for the next milestone, the next big change in your relationship. Jongdae was cautious about being too forward, and you never seemed to have good timing on your side.
You flipped through the pages of the hardcover in your hand, closing the book with a satisfying thump and returning it to its spot on the shelf. Today, you and Jongdae were browsing through the small shops on the street not too far from Dr. Suh's office. Jongdae had offered to pick you up after your session, and seeing as it was an unusually bright winter day, both of you wanted to spend as much time out of the apartment as possible.
One of the bad things about losing six years worth of memories meant that you forgot about all of the new books you had read during that time. But on the plus side, it also meant that you got to experience them for the first time all over again. You had a list on your phone compiled of recommendations from friends, family and of course, the internet.
Jongdae wasn't as much of an avid reader as you, but he enjoyed the occasional paperback every once in a while. He sat on the floor, back against a shelf with a pile of some of your books stacked up beside him. With his phone in hand, he would giggle to himself occasionally while reading a webtoon. Every so often, you would look over to see his eyes crinkled up and lips pressed shut to try and keep the laughter at bay.
Giving up on your search for now, you found your way back to Jongdae's side, resting your head on his shoulder and peeking at his phone. Immediately, he shifted it so that you had a better view of the screen. Soon both of you were trying to keep your laughter down, scrolling through the rest of the webtoon's latest installation.
"My reading list is gonna take forever to complete," you mused when you caught sight of your forgotten pile of books. Jongdae handed them over to you when you asked, whistling at the sheer height to your pile.
"Then it's a good thing we've got plenty of time." Jongdae smiled at you before looking over the titles printed on your books. You never got tired of watching Jongdae's expressive face, enamored with the way that smiles just managed to easily find their way there, only adding to the radiance there. As of late, you found it more and more difficult to part ways at night, and to go back to your bed alone. Your heart tightened at this realization, unaware of how you had been longing for this for a while.
"Dae?"
"Hmm?" His head perked up, waiting curiously.
"I want to come back. I want to come home, with you."
Jongdae's mouth fell open, eyes staring at you blankly before he surged forward, almost knocking the books from your lap as his lips found their place against yours. The sudden kiss awakened something deep inside you, and soon you were scrambling to hold him as close to you as physically possible. Jongdae seemed to favor small nibbles at your lower lip, grinning when you gasped in surprise at the sudden sensation. One skimmed down your back before coming back up to your face, thumb caressing the soft skin there as you continued to kiss him. It felt like too soon when you were forced to pull away, cheeks flushed and chest heaving.
"You mean it?" Jongdae asked, just as out of breath as you were.
Nodding, you reached up to cup his face with your hands. "It doesn't feel like home when you're not with me."
Jongdae's eyelids fluttered shut, the weight of your words touching the depths of his heart. "You’ll always have me, no matter what. Home hasn't been the same without you." His eyes opened, brown pools of color full of adoration as he stared back at you.
Everything was falling back into place.

Series masterlist: ( 1 )  ( 2 )  ( 3 )  ( Final )
A/N: one of the hardest things was trying to figure out who the hell works at april & flower LOL like somehow in the back of my mind I always knew that I wanted some of the nct kids there, but it took a bit of rearranging to see who seemed to fit where. i just love the idea of irene being in charge of the place 😎
also, god I love old fashioned terms of endearments and it just grew even bigger after jongdae’s “dear my dear” release. you know, like sweetheart, darling, my love, etc.
there’s only one more chapter left to update in this series! thank you to everyone who’s been reading so far! ❤️ also happy holidays!!

75, Izuku and Kaminari, angst? It might be a weird combo idk.
this was a really fun combo to write!! i haven’t written much kaminari before, so i hope i did him justice!
Prompt #75 - Can I be alone right now?
read on AO3 - request a prompt and character(s) for me to write!
Izuku would like to think that he had a pretty good grasp on the characters that made up his class, thank you very much. Not even a year had passed since they had started here, at U.A, and Izuku would be proud to call the nineteen other members of his class his friends.
Aside from the boy being very knowledgeable in all of their quirks (although this was not something he liked admitting out loud), but he figured he knew a great deal about the individual hobbies his classmates took on, or other little quirky things about them others might not notice.
He knew that Iida always set aside an hour for reading every day, except Sunday’s where he did two. He knew Uraraka, despite her money issues, often liked to partake in homemade craft, often using disposable items that people were about to recycle. He knew that Asui (no, Tsu, he reminded himself) had a collection of pebbles and small rocks in her room, some she had been holding onto since she was a small child with a variety of colors, sizes and shapes.
Kirishima often liked to make his own little wooden figurines that he painted as gifts, thanks to his quirks. Ashido was amazingly good at cooking spicy foods, sometimes even managing to rival Kacchan. Tokoyami would take any sweaters or jumpers that somehow got left in the common room, ’borrowing’ them in his room for the time being and Jirou seemed to, surprisingly, be a big fan of classical and orchestral music. Yaoyorozu and Kouda seemed to both be fans of writing and drawing, respectively.
Last he knew, the latter two were trying to work together and make a short story about their classmates, which he honestly couldn’t wait to see.
But yes, Izuku would say that he knew all of his classmates fairly well - even Kacchan, as hostile as ever, seemed to have a fascination in reptiles of all creatures, and was currently set on getting permission from Mr. Aizawa to bring one to the dorms.
The boy didn’t know if this was normal or not…after all, before coming to U.A, he hadn’t had many, if any friends at all, reluctant to even consider that Kacchan so close…so can you really blame him, wanting to know everything he could about his classmates?
But if he was being honest…there was one classmate who despite all of this, and despite his own outwardly demeanor…Izuku had to admit that he knew the least about this particular student.
And it wasn’t that he wasn’t observing the other - it was quite the opposite, really. It just appeared that the student, Kaminari, knew how to hide his interests extremely well. It wasn’t something one would call the electricity-quirked user - secretive.
But…Izuku didn’t know what else to put to the other boy. Maybe he was just really shy with whatever it was that he liked doing? But surely he knew none of the class would laugh or make fun of him…
Not to mention that he wasn’t exactly the closest with the blond - who was usually a member of Kacchan’s small group, and the thought of asking the explosive blond leader was out of the question. Kacchan would tell him…but in his own loud, profanity-filled Kacchan-esque way.
No, if Izuku wanted to get closer to another classmate, this was the perfect opportunity. This was his chance.
And Izuku might not be the best when it came to socializing and getting together with others…but surely it couldn’t be that hard, right?
 —–
 "Ah, Kaminari!!“
Izuku had waited until the following Monday, carefully keeping an eye on the blond as the group finished their classes for the day, waiting until they all got back to the dorms before he decided to approach the other with a raised hand and a light call. The boy startled out of whatever conversation he’d been having with Mineta, and Izuku only felt a little bad.
Judging by the blush and slight nosebleed on Mineta’s face, he should give himself a bigger pat on the back for stopping wherever that talk had been heading.
"Midoriya?”
The other hero-in-training looked confused, and Izuku couldn’t really blame him - neither went out of their way that much to talk about one another. Izuku could only smile sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Ah, it’s about the English assignment we got today…I know you’re pretty good with English, and Todoroki’s not available to help out today…mind if we maybe work out the assignment together?”
Kaminari looked shocked, as if he’d literally shocked himself with his own quirk. “You want me…to help you?”
In retrospect, maybe it wasn’t the best excuse…but Izuku wasn’t exactly lying either. His English could be downright awful at times. Even with his admiration of All Might…it left him with something less than desired.
"I…I don’t think I could really be that helpful, eh? I’d just be distraction…“
Izuku refused to back down, "Think about it, Kaminari– you say you always have trouble writing it all down, right? We can help each other…I could even give you some notes on our Maths and Art classes-”
Kaminari moved in the blink of an eye, snatching Izuku’s arms. “Why didn’t you say anything before?! Man, not that I appreciate help from Kacchan, but he can be a reaaaal bummer!”
Izuku smiled at the use of his childhood friend’s nickname, letting the other teen start to drag him along towards the elevators. “So I take that as a yes?”
“Totally!! Oh, dude, we’re gonna have soo much fun!” It seemed as if Kaminari forgot the whole reason they were doing this already, “We’ll go to my room…no offence, but studying and doing homework, All Might watching me from every corner? A real creepy vibe, dude.”
 "Haha, yeah…….wait, what?“
 —–
"Just throw your stuff wherever ya need to, bro!”
Izuku had seen the blond’s room once - when they had first moved in. He’d been…surprised, sure, by the others taste. But this…
“What an…interesting set up…”
Izuku had no clue where to look first. Kaminari just grinned, trotting right in and all but dumping his schoolbag onto the small table in the middle of the room, books spilling out as he searched through to find his English book.
And that’s when Izuku saw it.
A small notebook slid out, falling off the edge and landing on the floor with a quiet thump. Kaminari, too engrossed in finding the correct schoolwork, didn’t notice as Izuku walked over, picking up the notebook carefully in both hands.
It seemed to be about the same size as most of his quirk analysis notebooks…and it seemed extremely worn out, like it had been used a lot. On the front, in big kanji, was just one word that make the unruly-haired teen’s eyes lighten up in excitement.
‘QUIRKS’
Ehhh?! Kaminari keeps a book on quirks?! I mean, I guess it could be anything really…maybe he just thinks of quirks that would be cool to have? Or maybe…
“Hey, Kaminari? I never knew you were one for liking to know things about quirks!” Izuku proclaimed, waving the book around shyly with a hand as the blond’s head whipped up to look at him with wide eyes. Izuku just grinned, turning the notebook over in his hands, almost admiring it. “We should compare notes sometime! It’d be interesting to see how different or alike our notes could be…do you keep updated on heroes or just the class?”
As Izuku spoke excitedly, his scarred fingers began to open the cover of the book. He had no time to react to what came next. As fast as a snake striking, Kaminari’s hand grabbed onto Izuku’s wrist, squeezing tightly as the other hand grasped the book, snatching it out of Izuku’s own.
All Izuku could do was give some sort of yelp of surprise, yanking his hand back hard enough to almost stumble the other teen with his eyes wide.
A throbbing pain started in Izuku’s wrist, and he hissed, covering it with his free hand. “What was that for?”
The One for All user hadn’t seen how Kaminari’s face darkened, snapping back. “You shouldn’t open up other people’s stuff, Midoriya.”
Izuku had never heard as much malice in the others tone, and even Kaminari seemed caught off guard, taking a step back. “Holy crap dude, I didn’t mean to snap!” he murmured apologetically, keeping his distance as he set the notebook aside on his shelf. “Really, I was way out of line…my notes aren’t any good though, sorry to grab you like that. Is your wrist alright?”
“Ah…yeah, it’s ok…” Izuku mumbled , stretching his fingers before looking at the boy who’d lashed out. “It should be fine.”
“Let me go get you an ice pack from downstairs!” Kaminari insisted, hurrying towards his door. “We can compare notes when I get back, if you’re still up for it?”
“…sure.”
Izuku didn’t like the unease crawling in his gut, listening halfheartedly as the other told him to sit down and wait before dashing out. Izuku’s free hand tentatively rubbed at his sore wrist, frowning slightly at the force his classmate had decided to use.
Man, I mean, he’s right…but I’ve never seen Kaminari react like that before, and I know he tends to let other people get way closer than that…
An uneasy thought nagged at him, suggesting that perhaps the other had been hiding something within the notebooks contents - but Izuku decided to push that away with a shake of his head. This was Kaminari, after all, one of the nicest people in the class! Surely he, of all people, wasn’t hiding anything to warrant that kind of reaction…
But…
Izuku found himself carefully, quietly heading to the very same shelf Kaminari had put the notebook in the middle of the conflict, only hesitating for a few moments before he reached out, taking the item and sighing softly.
This feels really bad but…I feel like something’s…
Izuku couldn’t really put his finger on the unnatural, bad feeling about it all.
He opened the book–
only for the first page to be empty.
Frowning, Izuku flipped through the next five, that were equally as blank, and stopped for a moment, eyes raking down the page critically.
Is it invisible ink maybe? Or maybe he hasn’t even written anything…
But the hero student flipped to the next page, and his throat ran dry. For this page was full…very full. He nearly dropped it, green eyes frantically scanning the pages.
His stomach crawled as he read the information on the page.
Name: Aoyama Yuuga (Hero Name: Can’t Stop Twinkling)
D.O.B: 30/5/2XXX
Quirk: Naval Laser
Strengths: Able to shoot out laser in various spots with hero costume. Hyper-aware of surroundings. Able to bend his own light in various shapes. His quirk is exceptionally powerful on its own, and he has deadly accurate aim.
Weaknesses: Stomach hurts after using quirk at full-blast for 10-20 seconds. Has a bit of an ego. Body isn’t very adaptable to his quirk without his belt. Seems to be the odd one out in the class, and acts strangely around them - stands out.
Aoyama seems to think extremely highly of himself, and it would be quite easy to go under the guise of a fan of his, or even a civilian asking about what he calls his “fashion sense”. He loves anything related to France, as well as cheese. Not terribly too smart, but not one you would want to mess with, either. Has not yet trained himself in much when it comes to hand-to-hand or quirkless battling, and being hit with his quirk isn’t an option. Close range battling is best for taking him out.
Rating: 1/5. Body is too unstable to use for different quirks -  however his quirk, with the right base, would be acceptable for H.E.N Project #021
and that wasn’t all - in any clear space were pictures of the boy himself in all his glory, for once unaware a photo had been taken. There was also a picture taken of the boys hero costume, little bits of writing detailing every part, and even where he would be most vulnerable to strike.
On the next page stated more information about the other blond in their class - his birthplace, current address, and even the basic information about his immediate family - and their quirks, too!
What the hell is all of this…? And this H.E.N Project…
Izuku wanted to put the book down and leave, feeling a chill go down his spine…but the boy kept going, flicking through the pages and feeling his stomach sink even lower with every filled page he came across.
Ashido Mina
Asui Tsuyu
Iida Tenya
Uraraka Ochako
Mashirao Ojirou
Kirishima Eijirou
Kouda Koji
Satou Rikido
Shouji Mezou
Jirou Kyouka
Sero Hanta
Tokoyami Fumikage
Todoroki Shouto
Hagakure Tooru
Bakugou Katsuki…
 and finally,
 Midoriya Izuku
Izuku didn’t know how long he had been sitting there, staring at the bottom of Kacchan’s final page before turning it to his own, not sure what he was suppose to be expecting. Well, what he had been expecting, at the least, was writing about as detailed as all his other classmates.
But how wrong he was.
Kaminari’s assessment on him didn’t only have pictures on the hero student himself - no. There were pictures of several others - heroes.
All Might and Gran Torino.
Izuku’s heart sped up, all air leaving his lungs when he also noticed older photos - not of him, but of an younger Gran Torino, of a younger All Might.
Of Shimura Nana. All Might’s mentor.
Izuku’s hands shook as he finally read the information listed, although his green eyes only stuck to one very specific part, one that just about sent the boy into pure terror at the thought of being found out.
 Quirk: One for All.
Counterpart to All for One. One for All allows Midoriya to have access to immense speed and strength. He is currently the ninth holder, inheriting the quirk from All Might, and is likely being trained to be the next Symbol of Peace. One for All grows as the holder grows and mends with the quirk themselves, meaning that Midoriya’s output will eventually be much stronger than that of All Might in his prime. It also appears that One for All can influence the user whenever stuck under any quirks that capture their mind, or force them to go against their will. One for All is not able to be stolen, and can only be passed with the holder’s permission. This quirk can cause dreams forced by those previous, some of which can cause the quirk to lash out violently whilst the current user is sleeping.
 No…no way…Kaminari…
He know’s about One for All!
Izuku slammed the book shut, putting the book back where he found it as he stumbled back, eyes wide and body almost trembling. His hands found their way to the straps of his backpack, clutching tightly.
He knows about One for All…I know I’ve almost spilled it a couple of times, but there can’t be any way he could’ve heard one of my talks with All Might, or even Kacchan…No one else would’ve told him. No one else knew the secret and Kaminari well enough to talk about it, especially not to his face! What the heck am I suppose to tell All Might?!
…..
Unless…
 All for One.
It felt as if cold water had been thrown over Izuku at the suggestion conquered up…logically, there was no other way the electric quirked boy knew but…
Kaminari…working with All for One? The League of Villains…?
…it all made too much sense. The attacks. The camp. Kacchan’s kidnapping and Kamino…everything.
He felt sick. Emotions coiled and squeezed at his insides, as if stones were weighing him down under water, and Izuku wasn’t aware of how hard he had been biting his lip, the coppery iron taste of blood filling his mouth. His face paled at what exactly he was accusing the other boy of.
Of being a traitor…
I have to go…I can’t be here, it’s too dangerous–
He couldn’t take the book with him. It would arouse too much suspicion. Izuku turned his back on the notebook, hurrying to the door, which Kaminari hadn’t closed behind him. But just before he got out to the hallway–
“Midoriya? Dude, you alright? You’re looking kinda pale there.”
Izuku jumped almost several feet in the air, whipping around in fright as Kaminari appeared at the other end of the hallway, coming to meet him with an ice pack in one hand. The One for All user couldn’t help but step back, earning a puzzled look from the blond.
“Midoriya…?”
“A-Ah, sorry Kaminari…something came up,” Izuku couldn’t stop the stutter in his voice, pulling on his bag straps and forcing a wane smile across his face in an attempt to convince the other. “My, uh, my mum called me. Something happened at home and I– I just really gotta go and sort this out, you know? I need to…can I be alone right now?”
Izuku’s gaze averted to the carpet hallway flooring, toeing at the material before he made to go around Kaminari, giving him another uncertain smile. “Thanks for the ice pack, but my wrist barely hurts–”
 "Midoriya.“
Izuku blinked, and Kaminari went on the offensive. With his quirk crackling around his fingers, the blond had struck out, slamming a hand on Izuku’s chest and letting loose. All in time that was not enough for the target to react as the taller boys quirk reacted immediately, striking out.
The electricity ran its course through Izuku’s veins, setting them alight in fiery pain as he let out a shriek - one that Kaminari quickly covered up with his other hand, dropping the ice pack. Izuku’s legs gave way as the shocks zapped and crackled across his entire body, limbs locking up with Izuku’s mouth gaping open. His throat closed over, stopping any oxygen.
With a vision swimming of black and white, Izuku tried to give out a weak cry, doing his best to fight off the unconsciousness that threatened to submerge him. The sting of copper filled the back of his mouth, and Kaminari crouched besides the fallen boy, golden eyes watching him like a predator.
Kaminari, hair standing up due to the voltage of his quirk, only gave a sickly sweet smile at his classmates predicament, going to pat the cheek of the freckled boy. His voice was muffled, but Izuku could still hear him. Hear the calmness cold that took over the others tone.
"If only you had kept your hands to yourself, Deku…what a naive little hero wannabe.”
No…I can’t…All Might!! Someone…!
But the downed boy couldn’t move his mouth, his tongue as heavy as led, and the student above him sighed.
“I kinda liked your work ethic, ya know? But, well…all good things gotta come to an end, right?”
And that was the last thing Izuku heard, his body finally going into shutdown and static filling his eardrums, the unconsciousness gripping him and dragging him into the void with its deathly claws, claiming its prize.
Kaminari scowled at the now knocked-out boy, scoffing as he got up and nudged the smaller boy’s face with his foot. What an idiot.
He quickly looked, making sure no one was entering the floor nor leaving their rooms before he grabbed hold of one of Izuku’s arms, dragging him into his room and shutting the door behind him.
“That was easier than I thought…”
Dragging him across the floor, Kaminari quickly found some rope he had stored away to tie and bound the others arms and legs, shoving him all too roughly into his closet before fishing his phone out of his pocket.
The number he dialed he practically knew off by heart, and he was sure to send a password via text so that the receiver knew it was in fact him.
The phone rung three times before being picked up.
“You better have a good reason for calling, kid.”
Kaminari couldn’t help the grin that spread across his features. The giddiness that filled his being, almost wanting to make the boy prance around his room in delight.
“Dr. Tsubasa, I got him. Midoriya Izuku is ready for transport to your facility.”

Tiny Bubbles
When Bucky walked into the back yard, beer in hand after a long day, all he could hear was a glorious cacophony of kids laughing and pop music. It was a glorious, clear, early September day. Just after school.
He could smell charcoal burning and fresh grass cut. It was home. The only thing that was missing was you. But as he cuddled the three scruffy, sweaty, moppets that ran shrieking and laughing across the grass he saw you. A cold cider in hand laying out fixings for dinner. Salad, Angel food cake, chips... All this after your own long day.
“Are these your hellions?” he asked, kissing you tenderly and pinching your hip. “The question is, Are they yours?” you tease taking a drink of your cider. He laughed and cuddled you for a second, watching the kids in the yard.
Three beautiful, kids. Ages 7, 4, and 2. Two girls, his oldest and a little boy. His youngest. Kids and a wife Bucky never thought he would have. A Friday afternoon under endless blue sky.
Even if he’s tired after a long day. Even if his shoulder aches and his knees hurt. Watching you chase the kids, laughing and hugging them to you while Bucky takes over the grill, he smiles a little. The bubbles floating through the air make it look like a dream. He feels like he’s watching through a bottle of soda pop and christ alive is it pretty. You’re pretty. Hair tied back with a pretty scarf. Paint speckles your hands and chalk is still stuck under your nails.
The kids sound half-feral. Rambunctious and loud. But this is playtime. And in the Barnes house, play time is sacred. They run wild in the yard. Running, Jumping, Climbing, Screaming. They guess. They test. And then when it doesn’t work they do it again. You didn’t spend the first part of your career doing Art Therapy with troubled kids for nothing. Play is how kids learn, you’d told him. Years ago when he’d come to see you at work and he’d walked in on the most intense game of “The floor is lava” he’d ever seen.  Big kids. Thugs and druggies. Angry punks and quietly furious psychos. All leaping on furniture and diving onto rugs while DMX blasted in the background. And you were at the center of it all.  Laughing. Just like now.
He wanted this afternoon to last forever. But as you herded kids to the table, helping him to fix plates and handing him another beer, he couldn’t wait for bedtime. After their tummies were full and they’d had baths and bedtime stories.
When he had you all to himself for a little bit. The look you give him as you wink at him over your bottle of cider before diving to keep Tommy’s plate on the table as Tilde and Tess decide to switch places, tells him that’s what you were waiting on too.
When you pull Tommy into your lap, rocking him gently and humming softly as the girls race across the yard. One last burst of energy before the sun sinks too low and Bucky hauls them into the house, one over either shoulder to put them in the tub. Bucky puts his arm around you.
“You did good, kid,” he says fondly, kissing your head. “Hmm?” you ask smiling sleepily. Three bottles of cider and a long day down and you’re comfortably relaxed. “You made some beautiful babies,” he said kissing you softly, savoring the taste of the cider clinging to your lips. “You helped,” you say modestly. Bucky laughs quietly, careful not to wake the toddler dozing against your chest as he strokes curls the same shade as yours. “All I did was make sure you had spicy mustard for your egg rolls and McDonald’s coke,” he chuckles, “You did the hard work.” You snort and kiss his jaw before standing slowly. “I think, Old man, it’s time for you to get your girls. It’s getting to be bed time.” He nods and stretches, “Baths tonight?” he asks. You laugh, “Nah. We’ll just hose them off tomorrow. Nat and Steve are coming over tomorrow for a while... and cold weather’s coming. It’ll be the last weekend they can play in the sprinkler.” Bucky nods, “And leave you and Nat time to drunk bake while Steve and I ride herd on the kids.”
You grin at him and he swats you on the bottom as you pad into the house with Tommy in your arms still. Bucky chases the girls down laughing and carries them into the house and you smile at his deep baritone singing “You are my sunshine” to the giggling little girls on his shoulders. “Mama, I’s not sleepy,” Tommy protests as you help him into his jammies, “I know baby,” you say smiling, “But see, the sun is tired. So we have to go to bed so the sun can sleep.” It’s the same story you’ve told all of them. An appeal to the logic of childhood. And soo far, it’s worked. He’s nodding off even as he protests, so you cuddle a little more, listening to Bucky reading to the girls.
It’s their routine. Ever since Tilde was just home from the hospital. One of his favorite things. Even when Tess was still in your belly. He loved reading to his girls. His princesses. He read to the girls and you took care of Tommy. The only time he was still was when he was sleepy. And you took full advantage of it. But as Bucky wound the girls down and made sure night lights were on and Monsters were banished, you laid Tommy down and kissed his cheek.
You could hear Bucky on the stairs, humming to himself and you smile. The music he’s playing on the record player is big band. Something he only did when the demons of his past were at rest. Something he never did until Tilde. You’d come home one day, not long after coming back to work, to find him bouncing her gently, dancing with her. Telling her she was the prettiest thing. That it wasn’t him her first boyfriend was gonna be scared of because her mama was much scarier. You’d cried. Just thinking about it made you want to cry even now as he pulled you against his chest. He smiled, resting his cheek on your hair. You smelled like home. You felt like home. Even after a decade and three kids. The warmth you radiate sinks into his core like it has from the moment your hand brushed his as you reached for the same book at the library. “Bucky?” you ask.
“Yeah, doll face?” he drawls, dipping you back gently. “You still looking for an excuse to add on to the house?” you ask, teasing. He smiles and kisses you softly, “Why, you got an idea?” You smile and press into the kiss, wrapping your arms around his neck, “One or two,” you muse. “Well shit, doll, lay it on me,” he says, smudging sloppy kisses against your jaw as his hands look for the hem of your shirt. “A library might be nice,” you muse, melting into his touch with a soft sigh. He doesn’t so much agree as murmur wordlessly, kissing down your throat. He knows exactly what he’s doing to you. After 10 years together he knows which buttons to press like he knows how to clean and load a rifle. Metal fingers graze your belly and you shiver, biting back a giggle. That one spot. He always finds it. Always. Even if he doesn’t mean to. He grins at you and you can’t even pretend to scowl. Yelping quietly as he picks you up to put you on his lap. On the couch. “Shh,” he teases, “You’ll wake the kids.” You snort. Unless it was storming they were all fairly sound sleepers. As long as you stuck to the routine. You straddle him easily, pulling his shirt over his head easily, lavishing kisses of your own on him now that you have his “stuck”. He relaxes into your attentions easily, fingers kneading your hips and bottom lovingly. You were a little wider there after three kids, but Bucky wasn’t complaining. The extra softness was comfortable and, as he murmured in your ear when you fussed about it, “It’s just more cushion for the pushin’, baby doll.” Usually in a tone of voice that made you blush scarlet. But you weren’t fussing today as you reached down to stroke his prick.
“What’s your other idea, kid?” he asked, panting slightly as his head rolls back. You smile, mischief in your eyes, “What about another bedroom?” you ask. Buckys head rolls back up slowly and he cups your face in his hands, eyes widening slightly, “Like a guest room?” he asks. You kiss him slowly and shrug, “Or a nursery,” you tease. Bucky laughs and swats your bottom affectionately, “I dunno kid,” he says smiling, “we’ve got three ragamuffins upstairs. One more might give me a heart attack.” You pout prettily and he kisses your nose, “Oh no,” he pleads playfully, “I can’t say no to that face. Not with you or the kids.” You intensify the puppy dog pout and he finds the waist of your jeans, unbuttoning them slowly. “Do you really want another baby, kid?” he asks, smiling. It’s a stupid question. Of course, you do. You’d grown up in a family of seven. The oldest of seven. Poor as hell but he’d never seen a Christmas happier than when he came home with you to meet them all. “Everyone would have someone to play with then,” you say teasing, making Bucky swat you again playfully. “Hmm, I should have known the baby fever was flaring up again,” he rumbled, sucking a soft mark into your collar bone, “But I think we can cure it.” You gasp softly and he grins, “Best not do it here, though,” he says, “Might really wake them up.” You can’t help it. You giggle as he throws you over his shoulder. His feet are quiet and swift on the stairs, despite your added weight on his shoulder. But now that he has a mission. Now that he has marching orders, he’s going to be a good soldier and get to work.
Baby Fever is serious business in the Barnes house, almost as serious as playtime and tiny bubbles.

Hi I have a weakness for lawyer characters can you please tell me some fun facts about León??!!!!
Thank you for the ask!! 💖💖💖 I’m sorry this is long omg, I got a bit excited... My only comprehensive thought for a long time was just OH BOY CAN I
ISFJ-T, true neutral
Both a Romantic and a romantic… if you told him you’re his soul mate he’d immediately go weak in the knees. Bring the boy a rose and he’d swoon
Has the worst sweet tooth–would at least give serious consideration to it if you offered him a bag of chocolates to commit murder
“Did you say free food?”
Hoards notebooks and probably writes overly dramatic poetry but never shows anyone
His ideal way to spend a day off is to order $90 of Thai take out and then spend the day at home with some beer, a pile of books (he’s currently reading a horror anthology or the latest Literary Masterpiece™), a bag of ube rolls, and playing the same two songs on repeat in the background (his playlist is pretty gdamn accurate)
LOVES the rain and is obsessed with the aesthetic of water
Really enjoys spicy food even though he can’t handle it very well. yes this is my nice way of outing him as a masochist
No one expected him to become a lawyer, including himself. León was never very competitive in school and also he was a high school drop out because he was on trial for murder from ages 16-18!! soo He got his GED and entered college, planning on taking some gen-ed classes and considering going to culinary school, and ended up loving this IP + patent law course he took. This boy wanted to be a patent attorney until he got to law school where someone helped his two brain cells collide and realize his experiences might make him an indispensable criminal defense lawyer instead. As an overly excitable bundle of empathy and ambition, that’s really all the career guidance it took.
León is… actually smart. Like I forget this all the time bc I’m constantly breaking him, but he’s genuinely a rational guy whose history and emotions overrun him. He makes bad decisions but he acknowledges them as being bad even in the moment of making them. He’s constantly fighting between his heart and head. Truly a wreck.
Addicted to peppermint + dark chocolate? ...Maybe so

And the only thing that she knows? Oh Sehun may just have the answer. Genre: slice of life, college au, suspense, angst, romance Rating: PG13 - only because I plan on doing more with this and if it wasn’t PG13 or lower my mom would have a serious discussion with me so…
Chapter 3
June, 18, 2017,
The next morning all was well. I slept soundly and over half of the tenants were gone, leaving the dorm peaceful as could be. And for once I awoke to the harmonies of the song birds as they belted out their morning hymn! That was until...a chorus of groans and moans filled the campus dorms halls.
Peaking my head out the door I saw all of the girls coming back from last night’s frat party. They either looked like a mess or were one, there was no inbetween. And then there was Ara. Smeared eyeliner, frizzy hair, puke covered shoes and I assumed she had a massive headache as she was cradling her head. Not wanting to deal with that I swiftly shut my door, and for good measures gave it a good lock too! Click.
Now what to do? It’s Sunday morning, yet, the only people I know are recovering from their immense hangovers. And summer classes don’t start for another week. Should I go exploring?
Throwing on a random pair of jean shorts and a white tee, I messily tied my hair, grabbed my phone, wallet and keys and headed out the room. Closing my door I made sure not to slam it, I wouldn’t want to give anyone a worser headache and I made my way out. It was still fairly early and I assumed that most of the other students would still be recovering as well, thus, I set off for the nearest coffee shop in hopes of filling my empty stomach.
As I walked past all of the dorm buildings, I basked in the warmth of the sun. There was nothing better than a beautiful Sunday morning. Spotting a coffee shop just down the block I smiled in triumph, crossing my fingers I prayed that this one would be open. And just my luck, they were!
Entering the dimly lit coffee shop I was hit with the smell of freshly grinded coffee beans, as the door closed, the bell chimed signaling my entrance. My eyes scanned the blackboard menu and I couldn’t stop the peaking smile as I found myself amused with the childish chalk drawings that lingered towards the bottom. As I was deciding in my head what to order I heard a familiar voice.
“Welcome to Exodus cafe! We make the best coffee on campus, plus we’re pretty good looking too.”
Raising my eyebrow, a lightbulb popped in my head. Baekhyun was his name, right? Shaking my head I walked up to the register and ordered what I hoped to taste pleasant, “One artificial love please, and hold the whip cream.”
“Of course! A cinnamon frappuccino for a spicy lady!” He said as he winked. “It’s usually five dollars, but I’m feeling a bit generous so I’ll just take four.”
Handing him a five I said, “Keep the change.”
And once again with a wink, Baekhyun left me to make my drink.
As the buzz of the blender filled the quiet atmosphere my eyes continued to roam the small minimalistic coffee shop. There were tan stools that complimented the high ceiling of the cafe, while the dark brown round tables gave off a cozy feeling. In the right corner of the cafe sat a larger rectangular table with heaps of newspapers and stacks of nicely organized magazines. Who knew these frat boys had a sense of style? “Order up for the spicy lady checking out the cafe.”
Rolling my eyes I grabbed my drink and sat near the large window. Sipping on my frappe I was taken back by how smoothly the cinnamon was blended into the creamy mixture. Just maybe, I would have to stop by this place again.
Another chim of the bell made me turn around, and, I almost let out a gasp of surprise. Too late, he heard. Smiling weakly I awkwardly waved to Sehun.
Waving back Sehun made his way over to me, leaning his arms on the table Sehun said, “So I see you’re enjoying my new creation.”
“You created this drink?” I asked with my eyes wide open.
Chuckling Sehun laughed, “Hey what’s with the doubt? You know just because I’m in a frat doesn’t mean that I all I do is party.”
“But can you blame me?” I shrugged as I took another sip of the delicious drink.
Before Sehun could say a snarky remark Baekhyun entered the room and hollered, “Oh Sehun is that you? About time you showed up! You’re nearly fifteen minutes late mister!”
Holding back a laugh I tried to pretend that I didn’t just hear Baekhyun call Sehun a “mister”. Muttering nonsense to himself Sehun bid me goodbye, not without telling me to stay for a while longer, and then excused himself to the back before emerging again wearing the cafe uniform which consisted of a slim black cotton polo, white apron with the words, “Exodus” engraved in silver and a bright red plastic nametag that contrasted with the color scheme. Walking over to me with a little paper baggie Sehun placed it on my table, before I could reject the gift he had already disappeared into the backroom. Finishing my new favorite drink, I jumped off the stool and left the cafe, not without my little gift though. As I opened the bag I fell in love with the just-out-of-the-oven croissant fumes, as I rolled the bag up so I could eat my snack later I noticed there was something written on the bottom of the bag. Smiling to myself I let out a chuckle, Sehun wrote his number along with a short message in messy handwriting, “Sorry I couldn’t chat long, had to start my shift. I hope you enjoy my little gift to you, and wanna hang sometime?”
Pulling my phone out I quickly typed in his number, sent him a quick “hello” and proceed on my walk of the campus. To some people, being able to walk on Yonsei’s campus was already a huge accomplishment, but, for me? It just made me even more confused, my mind told me one thing yet my heart said another. I’m just praying that I find the answers to what I’m looking for while I go through my stay here.
As I passed clothing boutiques, then electronic stores and more cafes I wondered if I was going to stumble upon my own “hidden gem”. And just as I expressed a moment of doubt, I had finally found what I had been looking for. The antique book store that I passed last night on my way to the party. Hurriedly making my way to the hidden store I opened the door, and was astonished by the rows and rows of literature that stood proudly before me. Reading the category names I swear my heart was about to leap out of my chest! There was Henry David Thoreau, Emily Dickinson, Walt Whitman and so much more! Would it be too obvious for me to say that I love literature? Especially the time period of the great American Transcendentalist movement! Like a kid in a candy shop, I browsed book upon book, looking for the one that just called my name. And then, there it was, “Civil Disobedience”. Letting out a squeal I couldn’t believe that I stumbled upon such an inspiring composition. A man of his time, Henry David Thoreau left the comforts of his time and secluded himself in nature where he became one with himself and one with the environment. If only I had the courage to do my own thing, I whimsically sigh.
Grabbing the book off the shelf, I continued to look for another book. It was one thing to read a classic, but, I just needed to read a good young adult book. And so the search began once again. I searched high and low, but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. Sure there were books with covers that could be in an art museum, or some of the plots seemed really interesting however the covers were boring. I was just about to give up when an elderly man, who I assumed, to be the bookkeeper approached me.
“Why hello there, young lady. It’s been a long time since a youngster has stepped foot into my book store. Is there something in particular that you are looking for?”
Grasping my hands together I pleaded, “Please help me find a young adult book that will sweep me off of my feet.”
Wiping away an imaginary tear the elderly man motioned for me to follow him. As we walked through what seemed like endless rows of book shelves we finally came upon a shelf that was unlike all of the others. The wood was rough, not sanded like the others, the stain had long faded away yet it felt as if there was something luring me towards the shelf. Grabbing a book that definitely needed repair the man placed in my hand, the title read, “Little Women”. Brushing the dust off I just knew this was the book I was looking for.
Taking me to the cash register the man scanned my items. However, he insisted that I only pay the Henry David Thoreau book and take “Little Women” as a gift for coming to his shop. With a bid of goodbye and a hop in my step, I was more than excited to start the adventure of reading my lovely new additions to my book collection. But, just as I was about to head back to my dorm room a voice off in the distance shouted my name.
“Han Soo! Hey wait for me!” Sehun cried out.
Squinting my eyes, I slightly waved to him and met him halfway. Grinning Sehun pointed at my bag, “I see you still haven’t eaten my gift.” “Did you just get off of work?” I ask in astonishment.
“Yep. I usually get off at four but Baekhyun let me go early today.” He replied smugly.
Wow. I knew I took a long time to search for books. But did I really just spend four hours in a book store?
“So what’d you buy?” Sehun asked as he tried peeking into my bag.
“What do you think?” I ask as we walk side by side to who knows wherever.
Playfully tapping on his chin he said, “Hmm… I could say what’s on my mind right now, or I could say the right answer.”
Shoving him I scoffed and walked faster, laughing Sehun caught up to me and took the bag out of my hand. “Let’s see...oh wow these are some old pieces of paper.”
Slapping his arm I exclaimed, “Old pieces of paper! Sehun these are works of art, hidden gems in the world of literature! And you sir, just dissed my new babies.”
Raising his eyebrow he snickered, “Babies? Wow you really need a life.”
Grabbing my bag out of his grasp I stomped away.
“Hey, look, I’m sorry...not really but you just need to life a little.” He said as he tried to console me.
Giving him the cold shoulder I pretended that he was invisible, and continued on my way back to the dorm. Knowing very well that he was still following me I turned around and snapped, “What?”
Kicking at the ground like a little kid he asked, “So...does this mean you’re not mad at me?”
Letting out the most dramatic sigh that I could muster I said, “I guess I have no other choice than to accept your terrible apology.”
Fist pumping into the air Sehun grabbed my hand and dragged me across the street, “Great! Now let’s go!”
Barely keeping up with Sehun’s long strides, I struggled to follow his lead. Noticing this, Sehun sheepishly apologized, let go of my hand and slowed his pace. As we continued on our walk, I was still amazed by how even the littlest things were beautiful.
As Sehun stopped us in front of the campus greenhouse, I smiled. Motioning for me to enter first, I gladly entered. Just like the night before splashes of pinks, oranges, greens and violets danced across the greenhouse. There were numerous aromas of phlox, plumeria and more. But the most magical aspect? Was the laughter of the nearby elementary school children as they toured the greenhouse.
“How cute.” I said as I watched the children run around as if they had never seen such a magnificent sight.
“I could say the same thing too.” Sehun said as he glanced at me.

50 more interesting questions
Rules: fill this out and tag at least one person you’d like to know more about! Or just fill it out! Or don’t! Answer only some of them! Make up your own questions! “What kind of requirement is that”, you ask? A reasonable one! Who am I to tell you what to do? Anything goes!
tagged by @acrispyapple this was very long
1. What kind of food can’t you stand? really spicy food, tho recently i’ve been getting better at handling spices. Also food that has cauliflower or cilantro
2. If you could choose one minor inconvenience to never have to deal with again, what would you pick? I’d love it if my fish tanks could magically clean themselves and feed the fish, that’d be great
3. Have you got any useless talents? is not being affected by the caffeine in coffee a talent?
4. If you were really really good at one thing, what would it be? Probably drawing. I have soo many ideas but hardly any artistic talent lol.
5. Name a few people you think are extremely good-looking gdragon and top from bigbang
6. What was your favorite way to pass the time as a kid? I wasn’t allowed to go outside really when I was younger so all I did was read books, watch tv, rewatch disney movies and harry potter movies over and over.
7. What is something you’re proud of? eh, I don’t think i’ve done anything worth being proud about yet...ask me again when I have a career
8. What’s one character flaw in people that you just can’t tolerate? I hate when people don’t have proper manners, it’s so annoying.
9. Do you consider yourself to be more of a leader or a follower? oh a follower for sure. I am but a humble, shy sheep~ leading requires effort lol and it just isn’t interesting for me. Although, if i’m forced into a leadership position I’ll do well, it’s just that I do want to do it.
10. What kind of student are/were you? a pretty good kiddo. Never gto into trouble, and besides my ap physics grade back in junior year I never had low grades. Had to stay in tip top shape academically in order to get anything I wanted and not be disowned by my mom lol.
11. Butterfly effect question! Has there ever been a seemingly minor decision you’ve made (at the time) that ended up having a profound influence on your life? eh I don’t really think so but maybe
12. Name your most irrational fear/aversion SPIDERS, they’re the devil’s animal haha. so that and most most insects ughhh
13. Are there any fictional characters you find especially relatable? hmmm...maybe the mc from kiss him, not me? She’s into weeb shit, I’m into weeb shit. She likes yaoi, I like yaoi lol but she is way more into it than I will ever be. Also she’s surrounded by hot guys, which I am not and that is the ultimate tragedy.
kind of drunk are you? Alternatively, what sort of person are you at parties? I’m still underage so i dunno. Ask me again in January when my bff turns 21, I’ll let you know. At parties I’m super awkward so I’ll either just stand around looking really awkward or follow my friends around.
15. Do you fall in love easily? Or does it usually take a long time for you to trust someone? it’ll take a loooong while. I don’t trust guys (or most people). you can’t unlock my tragic backstory that easily if  you date me.
16. Would you rather have one close friend or 100 casual friends? one. I love having close bonds with people because then I won’t feel lonely. Also who needs that many friends.
17. Do you consider yourself to be more of a slob or a neat-freak? I like to have things clean for the most part. Though I might get really lazy and just throw things down and not put them away for a few hours lol. Also my desk can get pretty messy sometimes and becomes a sort of organized chaos, but I’ll always fix it anyway since the mess will eventually bother me.
18. Describe a place (imaginary or real) that you would find incredibly cozy. Somewhere where the weather isn’t terribly hot or cold in their respective seasons and is overcast  most of the time. Or Loches, France. I freaking love that place it’s really nice.
19. Do you have kids? If not, do you want them someday? I’d love to have kids, at least 3.
20. What was your favorite book as a child? I used to read the goosebumps and fear street series a lot. Also harry potter, a series of unfortunate events and the chronicles of narnia (Though fo some reason I couldn’t remember the books in that series at all but luckily @acrispyapple told me to reread it and now I have renewed love for it)
21. Name one thing you just don’t get what all the hype is about yeah fidget spinners are pretty dumb and I see them wherever I go.
22. Name one thing that you think is tragically underrated learning how to type properly? I think a lot of people barely know how to type and it upsets me to no end. I hate when people finger peck at the keys, they’re so slow.
23. If you had to be glued to a person for a month, real or fictional (who you have never met), who would you choose? hmm, maybe natsume takashi from natsume yuujinchou. Mostly becuase I really like him. Also being attached to him means I can cuddle nyanko-senesei. Or Nikkari Aoe from touken ranbu because I love him too.
24. What’s something you’d like the chance to do someday? travel all over!
25. Do you typically speak your mind when you have a controversial opinion? Or do generally prefer to not rock the boat? I don’t like confrontation so I keep my mouth shut usually.
26. What’s the dumbest fad you’ve been caught up in? hmm, not sure
27. What’s something you thought was cool as a kid/adolescent, but now cringe at yourself for? *war flashbacks of being emo*
28. What’s a trait you consider to be very admirable? I admire people who can speak their minds without fear, of course they also have to have tact. Also the kind of people who are so good at leading that you’ll naturally want to follow them.
29. Is there a particular kind of item people always tend to give you as gifts? (For instance, people always get you things with ducks on them because you like ducks, etc.) people like to give me things with cats bc cat’s are God’s greatest gift to humanity. I appreciate money just a little more though lol.
30. Do you speak multiple languages? Which ones? Yup. English, French, and Japanese. I really want to learn Korean, German and Spanish but I usually spend half of my free time on continuing japanese studies so we’ll see.
31. Would you rather live in the big city or the countryside? Neither. I like the suburbs. Either that or smaller cities at least.
32. Has there ever been something you were certain you’d hate, but ended up loving? sarada uchiha. When I first saw her at the end of naruto i kinda automaically hated her because I hate sakura. But ever since gaiden and the boruto movie I saw her personality and realized that I lover her haha. So whenever I see her in a boruto ep I’m pretty happy.
33. Do you mind being the center of attention, or do you prefer the spotlight to be on someone else? nope, I get so uncomfortable. I’m happy enough to not be noticed.
34. Favorite holiday? Christmas! I’m so obnoxious about it haha. I love singing Christmas songs and I’ll gladly sing along to the Christmas music that plays in stores and stuff.
35. Are you a more go-with-the-flow type of person, or do you need to have things planned meticulously? a bit of both. For the most part I’m go with the flow but for most important things that happens outside of home life having some kind of plan is logical and for the best .
36. Is there something you loved so much you wish you could forget it and experience it all over again? (A tv show, book, series–anything.) the dragon age series and mass effect series.
37. What hobbies do you have? reading, running this crap blog, doodling, studying, video games
38. If you could have a superpower, but it was only mildly useful, what ability would you want to have? the ability to make things clean themselves.
39. Something people are always surprised to learn about you I’m super lazy! I give off the impression that i would never ever be lazy which is just a lie lmao. That doesn’t mean I won’t do the work that I have to do. One can’t be remiss about those things you know, you’ll set yourself up for failure that way. I just hate wasting energy
40. Something that took you way too long to figure out  I can’t work @cyniccat‘s sewing machine properly for the life of me.
41. Worst injury you’ve had? I accidentally ripped the skin off of one of my toes with a door.
42. Any morbid fascinations? idk
43. Describe your sense of humor eh idk, I like sarcasm since I have such rapier wit. I also love really lame jokes lol. but I usually find most things
44. If you had to be born in another era/place, which would you choose? well I wouldn’t want to live in another era because they weren’t such fun times for poc’s. But If I could live in another place, I’d rather live in either Canada or France. Maybe Japan.
45. Something you are irredeemably bad at I can’t summarize that well without rambling.
46. Something that sucked but you’re glad you went through school. Even though it made my cry and my workload stressed me out I met my best friends there and more importantly I got an education.
47. Would you rather have a really godawful ugly tattoo in a place that is only slightly inconvenient to conceal with clothing (upper arm, thigh, etc.), or the coolest, most beautiful tattoo ever in the middle of your face? (Neither tattoo can be removed or concealed with makeup, and the ugly tattoo will deeply offend anyone who sees it.) I don’t want a tattoo ever, so the ugly one but like what’s so offensive about it??
48. Are you more of an optimist or a pessimist? for a pessimist i’m pretty optimistic
49. What would be the most flattering compliment someone could give you? “you fight good”. uh i’m not sure. I don’t take compliments well so even if it was the most flattering thing I probably wouldn’t believe whoever said it and just awkwardly laugh and say thanks.
50. Something you feel people often misunderstand about you hmm people who don’t know me think I like talking irl. I’m more of a listener.
i’m only tagging two people bc I like to see them suffer with me but this is open to anyone who wants to do it
