SCREAMIFN IM NOT EVEN DONE WITH THE NEW FIC I JUST STOPPED ONCE (spoilers for those who didn’t read) THE MOM DIED. LIKE, yes, okay, it was coming. it was obvious. it was stated. BUT. the mother was not any canon character in my mind!!! sorta just a made up character who had been with joel for a WHILE before the outbreak!!! i kind of wanted her to be a blank slate other than that, which i did think would make killing her hurt less but !!!! i’m not sure it did!!! i think it’s sad either way bc yk. if she hadn’t had a kid she might’ve survived longer? but equally, she might not have!!!

but yes :( the reader’s mom was in fact an old lady, (no she wasn’t, ~50’s age is NOT old, but in the apocalypse….. kinda is) and her age did hold her back!!! i think bc she had so much stress throughout her life after the apocalypse - LIKE SHE RAISED A WHOLE CHILD!!!!! - she just kinda lost her strength a bit quicker than joel :(
