Cherry Magic Episode 11 Review - Good Progression For Both Couples
Good progression for both couples! I love how each of them revolve around the mind-reading magic, but use it differently. Adachi is reliant on it and eventually makes a positive change in his life because of it, but still has some ups and downs when it comes to himself and his relationship with Kurosawa. Tsuge, on the other hand, doesn’t really use the magic all that much—only in a few occasions—but it did help him develop feelings for Minato and eventually experiencing a world he never dreamed of until now.
Tumblr media
With Kurodachi (or KuroAda in the Eastern fandom), they are dating, but are experiencing some issues. Fortunately, Kurosawa is reflecting on his behavior from the previous episode. I like how Adachi takes Tsuge’s advice and writes his heartfelt feelings in a letter. I think that letters are super underrated and I’m glad that he did so. Sometimes, words and text messages can’t convey feelings as well as a letter. The letter left such a huge impact on Kurosawa that he legit went to Nagasaki to meet up with Adachi. Talk about down bad. I do like that they did apologize. Adachi realizes that he really likes Kurosawa as he states some of the things he likes about him in order for his partner to not feel too regretful. The way they kissed afterwards was super sensual. I legit had to cover my face while still peeking because it was hot. If you’re wondering, yes, they did bang. That means Adachi’s magic is no more. Please don’t be upset over the censored sex scene, it’s mainly due to television regulations in Japan, I believe. The moaning, though… there is a reason why the BL genre is so popular because some voice actors know how to moan…Kobayashi is one of them…
Speaking of which, I learned from someone in the Cherry Magic discord that Adachi has a palmaris longus muscle on his wrist. It’s the little nerve/muscle thing that pops out on the front of the wrist. Only 14% of the population have it, apparently; I have it too! Apparently, the muscle can be a bit sensitive, when touched, so…think of that what you will.
On the Tsugemina side, Tsuge wanted to get over Minato, but couldn’t. He tried writing, but nothing came out. His feelings for Minato are just too strong. He eventually attended Minato’s concert where he gifted him a new pair of shoes, which caused Minato to rush out and find him. They eventually confess their mutual feelings for each other and it seems that they finally are getting together! Congrats! I really like how Tsuge’s so poetic, befitting an author. I loved his quote, “No story compares to the real you.” Man, that was SMOOTH. While Tsuge did have ulterior motives and it did bother Minato, Minato didn’t mind it too much as he likes Tsuge a lot more than he realized and even told the older man to not give up—words that Tsuge told him before. What I like about the Tsugemina pair is that Tsuge isn’t too reliant on the magic. While he did fall for Minato’s inner voice, he made his own effort to get closer to him as best as he can and it worked. The only time he used the magic significantly was to help Minato patch things up with Rokkaku. That’s about it.
This was the most romantic of the episodes by far, but the wonky animation does take some romantic value away from it, but it’s only noticeable in the non-romantic scenes. I wonder if next week is the finale. I do wonder how everything is going to end. There’s a lot of content for Cherry Magic, so I do wonder if there will be a second season planned. The day the episode aired was the day before  Adachi’s birthday, which is March 21, today’s date. Happy birthday Adachi! What are your thoughts on this rather romantic episode?

Cherry Magic Episode 5 (Thailand)
Edited to correct character names.
Trying a new format:
Admittedly, I should have realised, of course, Karan would offer to go to a hotel/stay somewhere else. I’m still, however, utterly annoyed with the lack of any real reaction towards someone just kicking a family member out of said person’s own place.
I’m sure this is a cultural thing, but Karan attributing Achi’s success to the emotionally and verbally abusive aunt rubbed me the wrong way. It was nice of Karan to defend Achi, but if it were me, I’d hope I’d be like, friend, look, I have to say that I find the way that person talked to you to be bad, and if you ever need help, if you ever find yourself in a dangerous or just bad situation with them, I will try my best to help you.
I’m curious what exactly Karan’s POV was towards being given the souvenir. Obviously, he was happy, but: He was thinking about how much he wanted a keepsake, and then, appros of nothing, Achi is offering this sweet gift. I think I’d be worried about accidentally broadcasting my desires if that happened to me.
I preferred the Japanese version of Kurosawa sitting vigil over Adachi, but I don’t have any objections to this version. It does make me roll my eyes, though, at Karan’s lying about having a comfortable sleep when dude, you and Achi both know you slept basically sitting upright next to his bed.
Or actually, if he had been sitting fully upright, that might have been more comfortable.
Moving on, further proof the boss is something and playing matchmaker.
Achi’s telepathy seems to be causing him more trouble than Adachi’s ever did. He and Karan were forgoing a genuine connection pretty easily, and then, because of fantasies Karan never would have expected to happen or tried to make happen, Achi got understandably spooked. I don’t blame him. If I found out someone undeniably had a crush on me, I’d probably handle it worse than Achi, to be honest.
It’s interesting how Rock is being given a more direct role than Rokkaku was. Rokkaku was just sort of a comic relief character. There were moments of mild jealousy from Kurosawa, but on the whole, both Kurosawa and Adachi liked and sort of looked out for Rokkaku.
On this note, I really liked the expansion of Rock and Min’s story here. I’m hoping Rock being all, person has a problem with my friend being gay? Person will regret this, will happen in the show. My favourite Rokkaku contribution to the Japanese version was him trying to gain enough liquid courage to attack Tsuge (not Minato, as I originally wrote) in a restaurant, where two of his coworkers, one of whom is Tsuge’s best friend and one of whom is known for being a physical badass, were with him all because this, from his POV, homophobic jerk was A. homophobic towards his friend, and B. broke his friend’s heart only in part due to the homophobia.
Part of the comedy of the Japanese version was Rokkaku just utterly failing to realise there was anything at all between Adachi and Kurosawa. Rock has definitely pinged Karan treats Achi differently than others.
What could have, and should have, really, been a cute domestic moment of Achi and Karan talking about Achi’s concern for a shared coworker was ruined by the fact Karan was seeing what he thought was Achi falling for Rock right in front of his non-salad food salad.
Credit to the show, I do think, if Achi was in a relationship with someone, Karan would be, okay, I’ll find a way to live with this heartbreak, but if he were ever invited to Achi’s house for anything, he’d only come if he had to, and it wouldn’t matter if he had to find an internet cafe or something, there’d be no way he’d be staying the night.
Which is why Im not sure what to feel about him getting so emotional about Achi and Jinta. Because, outside of his POV, taking the scene in isolation, it came across as him getting angry at two men sitting together and them hurriedly defending themselves. I wouldn’t be surprised if people were wondering if Achi might be gay/in a same-sex relationship and that Karan had a problem with the not-straight part.
Jinta’s stalking wasn’t as bad as I feared, at least, and while I’m still not actively shipping them, I do like how Jinta and Min’s relationship is being developed so much more in comparison to Minato/Tsuge.
It was well-done how popular Karan was standing all alone on the outside and watching the office loner happily be in the mix of everything. Unlike Achi wishing he could be Karan, however, Karan was just wishing he could be with Achi in a way none of the others could.
Initially, I thought it would have been a smarter choice to have Karan refuse to go, Achi chase after him, and then, have him announce his feelings, but someone else pointed out he was likely operating under: I can’t keep this in, I like you, and now, your boat is leaving, bye!
I might do a rundown of past episodes in this format, too.

Hey naina, tried to rewatch the cherry magic movie tonight. Got up to the nagasaki scene. It’s currently paused,,, I have cried genuinely. non stop since I pressed play? My head hurts really badly I think. I’m gonna try again tomorrow I hope you’re having a lovely day
(other ask under the cut for length)
KUROSAWA SAYING WHEN YOU DIDN’T TURN TO ME I WAS SAD AND THAT ONE FUCKIN TEAR THAT FALLS FROM HIS EYES AND THE WAY HE LAUGHS AND APOLOGISES FOR BEING A MESS I NEED A NURSE like i’m gonna. Die i’m two seconds away from throwing up my heart why would he. Why did they film a movie with such intent to tear me to the ground the way he can barely speak and has to try and gather himself multiple times with deep breaths before speaking and ends up crying anyway the way adachi looks on helplessly wondering how to comfort him and let him know how much he loves him the way. The way he tries to bridge the gap between them with understanding through touch one of kurosawa’s main love languages the way kurosawa’s eyes are so glossy and doe like as he waits for adachi’s kiss the way he says his name so softly the way adachi rests his hand on kurosawa’s knee and their hands find each other so slowly…, so softly… so tenderly… the way they can literally speak 636373 words with just their hands alone and do way more for the sake of romance and true deep mutual love than anything the way none of these are in order of how they happen because my brain is seeping out of my ears naina what the actual fuck were they thinking..,, machida keita akaso eiji and kazam hiroki you will receive my medical bills shortly i’m. I wow so. cool
PLEASE IM CRYING KFJHSDKFHDSJF ALL OF THIS IS SO REAL??????? cm crew put Smth into the nagasaki scene idk what but its insane like i will never Not be feral when i think abt it ...... kurosawas breakdown is so painful to see hes been holding everything back for So Fucking Long and imagining all the events from his perspective is crazy like think abt it. he has no idea if adachis ok or not and none of his calls go through and theyre so far apart like Imagine . the fact he wasnt like full on bawling in that scene means hes still holding back so much probs for adachis sake its so aaarhrrhGHGFGHF!!!!!!! LET HIM CRY MORE PLEASE.......
adachis side was perfectly analyzed in that meta i rbed earlier so i have nothing substantial to add but god for the 58302th time his Growth ..... even in ep 12 he had to get that push from tsuge to go meet w kurosawa but in the movie he could already tell kurosawa was putting up a front (and literally predicted it would happen as soon as he got the transfer offer) and he probs planned on talking abt it when he flied back to tokyo before the incident which is. ... .. and the look of determination on his face the entire time kurosawa finally broke down w no panic no overthinking like "I Am Going To Love And Cherish This Man So Hard" and comforting kurosawa w touch and no longer caring abt the magic that hes become reliant on for kurosawas sake. . Yeah im going to be ill about these two for the rest of my life thank u cm crew god bles <3

Ayesha Liveblogs Cherry Magic
Liveblogging my CM re-watch in anticipation of the movie LOL
It’s fun that Kurosawa reacts to Adachi’s fall before we meet him
“So, you are a virgin?” “Not so loud!” I know they’re establishing the premise of the show, but kgkjgh isn’t this guy Adachi’s superior? Where is the HR department at this stationery company LOL
The premise, for anyone wondering, is that that if you’re not sexually active by age 30, you will develop magical powers. It’s a much more sincere and lovely show than you might think based on that description
“I’ve fallen in love before.” I didn’t notice this the first time I watched this, but they really do drop that Adachi has some kind of romantic history and then never, ever mention it again
Adachi, unsolicited, about Kurosawa, thinking that this is an envy thing: His smile is blinding. He is so handsome. I fantasize about him in different sports uniforms. I think about this such a normal amount. Anyway. Back to work!
Tumblr media
Of the three times I’ve watched this episode, this is the first time I realized Romance Writer Tsuge’s name appears this early in the show. Also I forgot his name was Masato
“No way, I can really use magic now?” I admire Adachi’s faith in magic. If I started hearing voices everywhere I went, I think I’d assume I was having a mental breakdown:
Tumblr media
“Who’s that lucky girl that our extremely popular Kurosawa likes?” Adachi’s little smile about Kurosawa’s thoughts before he realizes what’s happening is very cute
“Maybe everything that happened so far, like my ability to read minds, is just a delusion, and those are auditory hallucinations. There’s no way Kurosawa likes someone like me.” INCREDIBLE that Adachi was willing to believe in virginity-touch-telepathy-magic for a full week until he bumps into Kurosawa and hears that he has a crush on Adachi and THEN Adachi was like ‘Unrealistic. Blocked.’
"I was just thinking you’re kind of amazing,” said Adachi to Kurosawa, for literally just sorting papers. Get you a man that will mentally compliment you literally every time he looks at you
Kurosawa said: I will see that barrage of mental compliments and raise you, four MORE
They really do keep you hooked with immediately sending Adachi to Kurosawa’s house at the end of EP1
Adachi upon seeing that Kurosawa has one (1) houseplant: What’s with all the glamour in this room!!
Tumblr media
“I bought these pyjamas thinking they’d suit Adachi, but to have him actually wear them...” There’s a certain level of bald-faced confidence in this act from Kurosawa, considering they weren’t even friends until now lmao
Kurosawa said: Plan for the boyfriend you want to have, not the co-worker you do!
Also Kurosawa’s vaguely lustful mental montages about Adachi in pyjamas do make me laugh a little
“If I knew [how to react], I wouldn’t be a virgin for 30 years.” Hear me out. Hear me out. There is a SLIGHT implication here that if Adachi was better with responding to flirting, he might’ve fucked Kurosawa this very night
I really do appreciate that they go out of their way to emphasize that Kurosawa would not do anything to harm Adachi. I’ve seen some hard-to-swallow tropes in this sphere and Cherry Magic said that’s not us
Neither Adachi nor Kurosawa being able to sleep well because they stay up thinking about each other is v sweet:
Tumblr media
“He’s so refreshing so early in the morning.” This particular compliment HAS to come across less oddly in Japanese LOL
“I’ll have to ask him for advice,” said Adachi, about to ask for romantic feedback from the most awkward person he knows
Although, in fairness to Tsuge, he does warn Adachi several times that he’s not the person to go to for romantic advice
“If it were Fujisaki-san who likes me, perhaps I wouldn’t be this troubled? No, I would probably still be troubled.” That’s bisexuality baybeee. Can vouch that all romantic directions can be equally troubling
It’s not like. Confirmed-confirmed in the show that Adachi is bi, but I think it’s sort of implied through the mention that he has been in love before, while Kurosawa seems to be the first time he’s romantically considered men!
One thing I also love is that the romantic ails between Kurosawa and Adachi are NOT related to internalized homophobia. The fact they’re both men is mentioned on occasion, but only in reference to other people and how they might think. Their romantic story is FULLY about their own self-concepts
“I just want to see Adachi. I want hear his voice. I’d like him to smile if possible. Adachi wouldn’t want anything more than this.” KUROSAWAAA
“I can’t just... ignore it.” ADACHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Tumblr media
Adachi summoning up all the courage in his body to ask Kurosawa to dinner only for their ENTIRE office to join them is peak romcom energy. Look at the face he makes at Rokkaku. This is quite possibly the maddest he is over the course of the whole show:
Tumblr media
“Am I giving him the wrong idea?” asked Adachi to himself, after literally responding to Kurosawa’s romantic feelings by asking him out
Adachi just running to the bathroom whenever things get a little too much for him is very relatable
When Adachi finds out that Rokkaku actually didn’t want this party and immediately finds an excuse to get him out of the party. It’s not just that he has magic, it’s his good heart 🥺💗 I love him
Meanwhile, we check in with Romance Writer Tsuge, who has, in the course of a half-hour, found out he too has Magical Virgin Telepathy AND has the hots for his deliveryman
Tumblr media
Kurosawa noticing Adachi is worried about being dared to kiss him and redirects to kiss his forehead while mentally apologizing 🥺🥺🥺 I love them both
The way Kurosawa’s smile drops as he turns around always gets me
“I didn’t hate... your kiss.” Adachi going out of his way to explain that even though even though he was worried about kissing, it wasn’t because he didn’t want to kiss Kurosawa 💞💞💞
Rooftop romance:
Tumblr media
I gotta say, there is something funny about Adachi being the one to instigate him and Kurosawa getting involved twice in a row (asking him to dinner, implying that he wouldn’t mind kissing him) and then going: 🚨💥🚨 WEE OO WEE OO I AM AFRAID OF ROMANCE WEE OO WEE OO 🚨💥🚨
“Or rather, Kurosawa was deep inside me all at once.” There HAS TO BE phrasing for this feeling with less innuendo LMAO
HAHAHAHAHAHA how does everyone at Adachi’s office building not think he’s insane for slamming his head against the elevator. At least Tsuge was at home
“He’s [one of] the flashy ‘party people’ kind I hate.” Seems a lot of judgement for someone who has only ever handed you deliveries, Tsuge. Is this purely cause he’s blond LOL
“I want to know more about him, but I still chickened out.” Rome(ance) wasn’t built in a day, Adachi
Not disagreeing with you on how much fun you can have being single, Adachi, but I do think you happen to already be balls deep in romance:
Tumblr media
“If you think that such a cute girl likes you, wouldn’t your heart beat faster than this?” Not when you already have feelings for someone elseeee
“This is the reason for the fear I’ve been feeling all along. I’m afraid of going any deeper and being a disappointment.” Adachi realizing the root of his romantic reservations are thinking he’s not good enough for Kurosawa ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Sweet man
I do love the reveal that Fujisaki is ace. When I first watched it, I did think for a second she was saying she liked Adachi in the elevator but actually she was just confirming: Gay rights! Solidarity! Yeehaw
“Rather than doing nothing, I want to do whatever I can.” KUROSAWAAAAAA
Adachi learning that Kurosawa is worried about pushing Adachi away by being too present and immediately assuring him verbally that he appreciates his presence 💖💖
“‘From what I can see, Fujisaki-san is working hard. She looks happy every day, so don’t worry.’ I will tell your mother that.” ADACHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Underrated moment: Adachi throwing all of his things at Urabe for no real reason as he marches over to help Kurosawa. His desk is on the way!!! Lmaoooo
Tumblr media
Adachi using his magic intentionally to help Kurosawa with work troubles and growing more confident in his ability to help people <3
Every time Romance Writer Tsuge and Flashy Minato interact I cannot help but think of this post
“The real reason I’m able to take a step forward like this, is because Kurosawa fell in love with me.” Get you a relationship that makes you strive to be more confident and work towards your goals
The first tip-off that this woman is not Kurosawa’s ex should have been that Rokkaku is the one who said it. He is by far the least observant person on this show
Adachi’s jealousy dream sequence about them makes me uncomfy, knowing she’s actually Kurosawa’s sister kjhgkjghkjgh
“It’s people like that who seem so natural next to Kurosawa,” said Adachi, like he’s not also hot
Incredible how Adachi micro-dosing hallucinogens by drinking like six bottles of cough syrup bc he’s upset at the prospect Kurosawa MIGHT have had a girlfriend ONCE is not a giant waving flag to himself that he has caught feelings lmaooo. The only mind he is unable to read is his own
Tumblr media
“I will feel sad if Kurosawa has a change of heart.” You’re so close, Adachi 🤏
The little relieved expression when Adachi finds out she’s his sister 💖
Adachi’s surprise that Kurosawa wants to take care of him when he’s sick instead of thinking lustful thoughts never fails to get me
“You can stay here as long as you like.” Adachi inviting Kurosawa to stay with him indefinitely and then immediately freaking out bc Kurosawa imagines them making dinner and doing laundry together. Maybe the real magic was Kurosawa’s ability to break through this fear of commitment hahahahah
At least once a week Adachi does something to initiate closeness between them and then the 🚨💥🚨 WEE OO WEE OO 🚨💥🚨 starts again
Tumblr media
Adachi inviting Coworker Rokkaku over to avoid the romantic consequences of his own actions and then the scene immediately cutting to Tsuge saying, “Love makes people stupid,” is poetic cinema
I’m glad that Romance Writer Tsuge wasn’t rewarded for his strategy of asking for deliveries every hour to see his crush LOL
“An uncle like you getting heart flutters creeps me out.” The wild vibes between Minato and Tsuge is also enhanced by the fact that Minato looks like he’s 22 at best and Tsuge emits the vibes of someone who is 30 going on 47
Presented without commentary:
Tumblr media
I think of all of the ways they could handle the fact they’re dealing with boundary issues, Kurosawa tucking Adachi in and then reaching towards his cheek and while Adachi is fully aware of that decides to pull away from Kurosawa is the best possible way they could handle it. The scene still sits heavy on me, but I think it’s well-done. It also kind of shows that Kurosawa is on his last straw for holding back his feelings
I am also realizing it is immediate foreshadowing for the confession scene when they both do the same thing
Tumblr media
“If it were me, I’d be so happy.” Kurosawaaaaaaaaaa
“I’ve got to stop him from leaving. But what do I do after I stop him?” TELL HIM YOU WANT TO GET TO KNOW HIM ADACHI, LIKE YOU’VE BEEN SAYING TO YOURSELF FOR 6 EPISODES
Kurosawa’s face falling after he confesses always feels so oof. He never wants to show people when he’s hurt so he waits until he’s far enough away from Adachi to let go
It’s very good acting, but the fact that Kurosawa’s main difficulty in life is that he’s so handsome that no one ever thinks about his personality makes me laugh:
Tumblr media
(🎶 Hot girls we have problems too, we’re just like you, except we’re hot 🎶)
“We could do with more young guys.” President Matsura is icky
“Drink up, you’re a man.” Everything about Matsura is the worst. Get got
PARK BENCH ROMANCE:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kurosawa after Adachi tells him he is allowed to be vulnerable one (1) time: I am going to keep this man in my heart forever
What I also like about this flashback sequence is that it shows that Adachi has always had this desire and ability to comfort people, and that these powers are just one new way to facilitate a talent he already had
“It didn’t take long for me to fall for him.” It is also sweet that Kurosawa’s feelings are not a recent thing, because it doubles down on it being about who Adachi is 💓
“Before I knew it, I was searching for Kurosawa. I was thinking of Kurosawa. The next thing I knew, my mind was full of Kurosawa. That’s right! I...” He got there eventually!!
LOVE that as Kurosawa agrees that he understands it’s easier to just be coworkers, Adachi firmly tells him, “Listen to me,” as he’s about to confess. Parallels to the previous rooftop scene where Kurosawa tries to give him an out, and Adachi refuses it and makes sure that Kurosawa knows his feelings:
Tumblr media
“Maybe I became a magic user... so that I can touch his heart.” 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
What’s also nice about this line is that Kurosawa has already said in this same episode that Adachi touched his heart YEARS before now. The magic only brought awareness to Kurosawa’s feelings. But it is so, so sweet that Adachi thinks the main purpose or blessing of his powers is getting closer to Kurosawa
“Does that mean... I can go to your place?” I like how quickly Kurosawa pivots to flirting with Adachi at each and every opportunity as soon as he finds out their love is requited
We now revisit the plight of Romance Writer Tsuge as he crashes their date
Fujisaki and Tsuge noticing Kurosawa and Adachi making googly eyes at each other at work and home respectively kjghkjgh
Meanwhile, Kurosawa watching Tsuge and Adachi have an entirely telepathic conversation and thinking maybe that they’re just both very socially awkward
Kurosawa’s mental poem about Adachi kjhgkjghk in a show about magical virginity telepathy, it is perhaps the most embarrassing thing that happens the whole time, surprisingly. I love it regardless
I won’t lie to you, I had a hard time recognizing Rokkaku the first time because of his Weekend Hairstyle and Outfit LMAO
“That’s a nice name.” “What? You didn’t know his name? That’s funny.” HHAHAHA Flashy Minato going from Tsuge not knowing his name on EP8 to having sex with him in EP9 or smth is HILARIOUS
Hahahaha Adachi asking Kurosawa if he can read minds is also him simultaneously asking Kurosawa if he is a virgin
“What’s with you, Uncle?” “....Uncle?” The funniest part of this episode is how upset Kurosawa is when he gets called Ossan hahaha
The smile Adachi gives Kurosawa before he decides to tell Tsuge they’re together ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh 💗💗💗💗💗💗:
Tumblr media
The hand-holding while smiling and thinking affectionately at each other is really coming for my entire brand of things that I enjoy. All I am is two queer people in a trenchcoat in mutual understanding and companionship, holding hands
I don’t actually care that much that the protagonists don’t get a kiss, but it IS wild that the people they choose to have the first kiss on this show are Flashy Minato and his rude ex, with the world’s most closed-mouth, mouth-hovering, not-even-wanted-by-the-main-character-in-narrative kiss just so Tsuge can have yet another mental breakdown lmao
“It’s been 9 days since we started dating. It can get confusing at times, but days like this aren’t too bad.” Adachi literally counting the days. He is in looooove
He is so noticeably happy that his colleagues comment on it and he has to try to keep himself from smiling when texting Kurosawa:
Tumblr media
Shout-out to Udon the Cat, caught in the middle of Romance Writer Tsuge and Flashy Minato’s delivery divorce
Kurosawa eating a grain of rice off of Adachi’s face like they’re not in the middle of their office cafeteria and Adachi thanking him for it like that was a normal thing to do kghjghjghkjghg. Pick a lane about hiding your relationship or not!! [Tsuge voice] Love makes you stupid
The now-more-than-vaguely-lustful mental montages about Adachi in nightwear have returned
Adachi said: 🚨💥 WEE OO WEE OO THE FEAR IS BACK 🚨💥
Tumblr media
"Is it really okay for me to be here? I don’t know what’s going on at all.” “It’s okay. I don’t know what’s going on either.” Relationships are built on common ground. Also Rokkaku drinking iced coffee in a rage behind them really adds to the vibes
“It’s because he’s gay, isn’t it?” said Rokkaku, not aware he is in a room full of entirely men who are in love with other men
Minato: I’m part of the LGBTQ community, and this is my best friend Rokkaku. He’s an ally. Talk, Rokkaku
Rokkaku, rugby tackling Tsuge: ALLY!
HAHAHAHA I don’t know that I remembered that Tsuge just goes, “I was avoiding Minato, but not for homophobic reasons,” and then just runs away without explaining ANYTHING to Rokkaku. How did the rest of this hang-out go for the other three
Minato, texting Rokkaku the next morning: Not homophobic. Just homosexual
This is nothing against Tsuge, but that Minato responds to this screamed confession with, “You are cute, huh,” and decides to sleep with him immediately is a reason I think Minato should see a therapist:
Tumblr media
“It might be none of my business, but you looked like you were interested.” Kurosawa encouraging Adachi to go for his stationery contest dreams but phrasing it so it’s about what Adachi wants, not what Kurosawa thinks he should do 💕💕💕💕
“I might really like him a lot.” When they hold one another in the street swaying thinking about how much they like each other 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 It’s a nice show
Tumblr media
Minato and Tsuge really kiss like they don’t want it on their IMDb page hahahahaha
Shout-out once again to Udon, who bears witness to this coupling
“Although they use the word ‘loss’ you will lose anything.” Tsuge said there’s no slut-shaming in this household
“No, I don’t mind [losing my virginity] if it’s with Kurosawa... Hey, why am I getting all fuzzy inside? Focus on the competition now! Oh, but... No, I have to do my best. Yes, but..” I love Adachi’s Kurosawa-addled brain, it is very funny
Lmao @ Kurosawa and Adachi spending what seems like every day together and Kurosawa still calling this a practice date
“Do you want to practice for our date?” HAHAHA I forgot that Adachi immediately does the same thing and takes Kurosawa out too. To repeat a joke I have definitely already said:
Kurosawa and Adachi at their wedding altar: Will you practice marry me?
“If you aren’t having fun too, then it’s pointless having a date. When you are with me, I want you have fun and smile.” Adachi reminding Kurosawa his feelings are just as important as Adachi’s 💞💞💞💞💞
“Sometimes, you should also depend on me. I like you when you’re perfect, but around me, I hope you will relax a bit more.” IN LOVE WITH THE WAY THEY CONSCIOUSLY AND UNCONSCIOUSLY RESPOND TO EACH OTHER’S NEEDS
Adachi’s guilt over accidentally knowing too much bc of his powers and responding to Kurosawa’s thoughts out loud ahhhhhh
“All this while, whenever I needed to [know someone’s feelings], I just had to touch them,” said Tsuge, like he ever sees anyone other than Adachi or Minato kjglkjg
I LOVE Adachi and Kurosawa’s training montage for the stationery competition. It makes me happy that they actually incorporated their field of work hahaha. Also I love public speaking. Sue me, I was a Debate Kid
At times like this the props/art department must be grateful for the brevity of kanji because it would probably be incredibly difficult to spell out “Believe in yourself” in seaweed in many a European language
Tumblr media
AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE this episode is so hard on my heart. Adachi’s magic is kind of like Clark Kent’s football career. It’s not his doing that he has this ability, but it does really change the playing field for everyone involved
Like, is it his fault he was next to the President of the Department on an elevator? No, but it did change the outcome of his presentation. Adachi :((((
“I don’t really know that. Teach me.” Of all the ways Adachi could start this conversation, asking Kurosawa to fuck the powers out of him is truly one of the wildest routes
Nothing has even happened yet but watching Kurosawa think so highly of Adachi while Adachi thinks so lowly of himself 😭😭😭😭
Tumblr media
“I don’t think you’re lying. You’re speaking so earnestly. You can’t be lying.” I’ve always thought that Kurosawa takes this news so remarkably well. This man only has nice thoughts
“I want you to make a decision that wouldn’t cause you pain.” KUROSAWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
What kills me about this break-up is that it is not because they are incompatible, or any hurt between them, but because they love each other so much, want to do right by each other. Kurosawa wants so badly to give Adachi what he needs, but is self-sacrificing in the process, so he gives Adachi an out in the belief it would be least painful for Adachi. Adachi wants so badly to connect with Kurosawa, but lacks the self-esteem to believe he can provide that without his magic, and so he takes that out in his belief that he is sparing Kurosawa from his own failings. Heartbreaking!!
“You’re easy to read. Both you and Kurosawa-kun,” said Fujisaki, unaware that mind-reading is a very touchy subject for Adachi at this time
I love that Fujisaki is both Adachi and Kurosawa’s safe work friend to talk about their relationship with. They are not good at hiding their feelings so it’s nice they have someone to turn to:
Tumblr media
“He said the air has been tense between his seniors lately.” You know your office vibes are off when Rokkaku is the one who notices jkgkghkgjh
“If you get wrong, you can always talk it out. You can slowly get to know him like this.” Romance Writer Tsuge finally has some good romantic advice
ADACHI SAYING HE WILL KEEP TRYING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT KUROSAWA WHILE KUROSAWA REMINDS ADACHI THAT HIS LOVE HIS NOTHING TO DO WITH MAGIC 😭😭😭💗💗💗
We are back to Kurosawa’s balls-to-the-wall confidence. They don’t even think they’ve been on a date yet, but he is ready with a proposal at this Semi-Spontaneous Rooftop Romance Reunion
Tumblr media
“Please, be with me forever.” “Yes!” Shoot for the moon, and you will land on the roof engaged to your lover watching fireworks set off by your kind-hearted coworkers on Christmas eve:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is so sweet and funny that Kurosawa and Adachi’s “morning after” clothes are full white undershirts and sweatpants. They are incredibly in their 30s hahahaha
I am almost certainly in the minority here, but I do enjoy that they close the elevators on them about to kiss. I love a cheeky little, you fill in the blanks kind of moment - it’s kind of like, “this is not for you, this is for us” which I enjoy
Plus, given the other kisses in this show that we do see: Not having it directed that same way is probably for the best hahahaha
Also: They will never stop being romantic at work jflkjflkjf. Everybody in their whole office must know hahahaha
Tumblr media
It is a good show!!! Definitely in my favourites of all time
Bonus Special Ep 13
I love that Kurosawa, one-year pre-dating, was like, “How can I give Adachi a Valentine’s Day chocolate in the least gay way possible?” And decided to chuck them at him from the other end of the room while saying it was because he didn’t like sweets
A far cry from the confidence of buying the Adachi-sized silk pyjamas
Tumblr media
“Someone gave Adachi true love chocolates?” thought Kurosawa, not considering for even a second that the chocolates at Adachi’s desks could be for him, the person who is dating Adachi
The funniest thing about this episode is that Kurosawa has literally a desk full of chocolate from being Too Handsome To Live, and Adachi does not let that stop him as he gives Kurosawa his gift
Kurosawa’s words about not liking sweets have come back to bite him in the ass through Adachi’s chili pepper true love chocolate
Adachi: Don’t tell me you don’t like spicy stuff.
Kurosawa, choking back tears through a mouthful: No, not at all. I love them!
Adachi, laughing: You must be lying.
Kurosawa, absolutely lying, still choking: Nope, I love it.
Tumblr media
“Kurosawa is super handsome inside and out.” U right, Rokkaku. Said it earlier but this man only has nice thoughts
Rokkaku using everyone of his braincells to figure out what’s going on between Kurosawa and Adachi like these two don’t make googly eyes at each other all day and kiss in their office elevator
Ghjghkjgh Rokkaku spending all of his time with Adachi and Kurosawa popping up from the shadows cause he’s not a fan of Rokkaku trying to date his boyfriend:
Tumblr media
“Kurosawa-san and Adachi-san are... They are working together... to nurture and groom me!” Rokkaku said: How can I make this relationship about me
Though, in fairness to Rokkaku, most of Kurosawa’s threatening aura is delivered through cryptic sales advice
Rokkaku at their wedding: I can’t believe they’ve decided to support my sales career together for the rest of their lives 💗💗💗

Adachi didn’t know quite what to expect after he lost his virginity. He used to think he’d feel like a different person. That he’d feel more mature or more worldly, but he didn’t feel like any of those things. He was still very much himself. There were no clear discernible changes to him other than some temporary superficial details. Small love bites littered his neck, his hair was rather askew, his lips completely swollen.
Tsuge was right, he didn’t feel like he lost anything. Rather he felt he had gained something. A new experience with Kurosawa that he would always treasure. And if anything had really changed it was that he now felt closer to Kurosawa than ever before.
Adachi was still coming down from his high, while Kurosawa appeared equally blissed out beside him, a dazed smile on his face, a light sheen of sweat coating his forehead. He had never looked more beautiful. Kurosawa’s eyes fluttered open, his eyes focusing intently on Adachi. Their limbs were already loosely wrapped around each other but Kurosawa urged him closer and Adachi went without a second thought, letting out a giggle -- an actual giggle -- as Kurosawa began to press small kisses all over his face. He finally landed on his lips and Adachi eagerly returned the gesture in kind. The kiss was less frantic than those shared just minutes ago when everything felt so desperate and intense and overwhelming before waves of pleasure cascaded over them. Now he could just bask in Kurosawa’s touch.
That was when Adachi realized. Kurosawa had his hands all over him right now and yet he couldn’t hear a thing. Just a bit ago he could hear anything and everything Kurosawa was thinking. And now all he could hear was their shared breaths and the soft sound of their lips joining and parting.
He tried to remember the last thing that he could remember Kurosawa thinking.
I love you, Adachi. More than anything and anyone in this world.
Never forget that.
“You’re okay, right?” Kurosawa whispered, pulling back, eyes shining with adoration, but a hint of concern wore on his brow. “Was that good for you? Are you in any pain?”
“I’m fine,” Adachi quickly reassured him. Sure he was still sore, but not unpleasantly so. Kurosawa had gone slow, so painstakingly slow that it took everything in Adachi to keep himself from coming from Kurosawa’s fingers alone. The thought made a heat curl low in his stomach.
He wondered if Kurosawa would want to do that again tonight or if he should wait to ask until morning. Thankfully tomorrow was Saturday. Adachi didn’t want to leave the bed at all tomorrow. He wanted to unwind under Kurosawa’s careful hands. He wanted to feel the heavy weight of Kurosawa in his mouth again, he wanted to feel Kurosawa’s mouth pressing hot, languid kisses down his chest and sucking love bites onto his neck until he was left grasping desperately at the bed sheets.
God how he wanted more.
“It was better than I could’ve imagined,” Adachi gave a soft smile, raising a hand up to cup Kurosawa’s cheek. Kurosawa simply beamed at him. He was practically glowing, his light shining and spilling out onto Adachi. Kurosawa rested his hand over Adachi’s and turned his face to press a warm kiss to the center of Adachi’s palm. Adachi’s heart still ignited at every kiss, no matter how small.
“I’m so glad,” Kurosawa said, looking more than a bit relieved. “I wanted it to be perfect for you.”
“Of course it was,” Adachi said with a light, playful scoff. “It was with you after all.” Because it was simple as that, right?
“There you go again,” Kurosawa said with a warm laugh. “Making me fall in love with you even more.” Kurosawa leaned in to press another soft, tender kiss on his lips. Adachi wrapped his arms around Kurosawa’s middle to tug him closer until their chests were flush together once more.
Adachi pulled back after a few moments to say in a hushed tone, “Kurosawa, does it always feel like this. After…?”
“After having sex?” Kurosawa asked, a note of amusement in his voice. “No it doesn’t. This here… what we have, it’s special. Being with you just now I don’t think I’ve ever felt so right in my entire life.”
A slow smile spread across Adachi’s face and he pulled back a bit to hide his face into the closest pillow. These past months with Kurosawa he’d probably smiled more than he had in the past thirty years. He smiled so much his cheeks ached from it.
One of Kurosawa’s hands began to gently card through his hair. Kurosawa wasn’t trying to push him to say anything, not trying to pry him out of his bubble, just letting him be while reminding him he was still there for him.
“I’m glad it was you,” Adachi told him, finally peeking out from the pillow. “I’m glad you were my first.” Kurosawa’s eyes softened.
“I want you to be the only one too,” Adachi continued, the words just pouring out of his mouth before he could stop to even contemplate what he was saying. “I can’t imagine sharing that with anyone else but you, Yuichi.”
He watched a myriad of emotions flicker across Kurosawa’s face. Adachi didn’t need his mind reading abilities to know that Kurosawa felt deeply touched by his sentiment. Instead Adachi could feel it in his careful touch, see it in the way Kurosawa gazed at him like he was something to be treasured.
“Neither can I,” Kurosawa eventually said, brushing yet another kiss against Adachi’s lips. Then he glanced at Adachi. “You can’t hear me anymore can you?”
“Yeah,” Adachi gave a small, slightly bashful smile. “It’s suddenly very quiet.”
“Are you saying I’m a chatterbox in my mind?” Kurosawa raised an eyebrow.
“Just a little,” Adachi laughed, Kurosawa rolling his eyes good-naturedly.
“Do you miss it? Being able to hear me?”
“Well… maybe a little,” Adachi admitted. “I guess you’ll just have to say more sweet things out loud to me to make up for it.”
“Oh yeah? Like what?” Kurosawa’s lips quirked up a pinch.
“Maybe recite me some more poetry,” Adachi teased and Kurosawa let out a low groan at that.
“I really wish you hadn’t told me you heard that,” Kurosawa grumbled, trying his best to look pitiful, jutting out his lower lip in a pout.
“You asked!” Adachi pointed out. Indeed after Adachi told Kurosawa that he could in fact read minds Adachi had done his best to recount every last thought and fantasy he could recall of Kurosawa’s. Of course it had been more than embarrassing to relay all of the cheesy thoughts Kurosawa had of him, but it seemed to amaze Kurosawa more than anything that Adachi hadn’t run away after hearing all of that.
“Oh well,” Kurosawa sighed. “At least all of my poetry will be secure from now on.”
“Oh tell me one,” Adachi begged, rolling over so he was half draped over Kurosawa, resting his chin on Kurosawa’s chest.
“How about I tell you something better?” Kurosawa asked after a brief pause.
“What could be better than that?” Adachi asked with a soft laugh.
“To tell you that you’re the love of my life, Kiyoshi,” Kurosawa’s eyes centered on Adachi, his heart just about jumping out of his chest at that statement. “And that I want you to move in with me. For real this time.”
Adachi’s eyes widened. They’d been dating six months now. Technically they’d been living together the past two weeks but it was only meant to be temporary. Adachi’s apartment complex had been bought out by some corporation who was going to be putting up a large department store. He’d gotten a month's notice and a handsome amount of resettlement money from the company. He’d decided to move into Kurosawa’s place in the meantime while he searched for a new place to live, but the truth was he didn’t want to leave.
“Only if you want to, of course.” Kurosawa gave him a hesitant smile. Adachi realized he must’ve taken his blank stare as a no.
“I do!” Adachi said in a rush. “I was just surprised is all. But I do want to move in with you. Officially.”
Another bright smile blossomed on Kurosawa’s face.
“Tomorrow we could go shopping,” Kurosawa suggested, excitement pouring out of him. “We should redecorate.”
“We already have a lot of my stuff in boxes, we can just use that,” Adachi said, gesturing toward the boxes in the corner of the room.
“But that stuff is yours,” Kurosawa said. “I want stuff that’s ours.”
“Oh.” Adachi blinked in surprise.
“Is that okay?”
Of course Kurosawa was always so attentive. He didn’t even need the ability to read minds to pick up on Adachi’s small shifts in mood.
“I would love that,” Adachi said, eyes flickering away from Kurosawa’s. “It’s just that…”
“What?” Kurosawa asked, sounding concerned. “What is it?”
“I was hoping we could just stay in tomorrow,” Adachi said, keeping his eyes low so as not to meet Kurosawa’s eyes. “So we could… you know… make up for all the time we weren’t able to do this.”
Adachi felt Kurosawa’s heart stutter against his hand.
“Adachi,” Kurosawa said intently, Adachi’s eyes quickly darting back to his. He couldn’t quite read Kurosawa’s expression. He looked vaguely awestruck. “Are you really saying you want to stay in tomorrow so we can have sex all day?”
“Um, well yeah,” Adachi said, figuring there was no point beating around it now. “I guess that’s what I’m saying.”
“All day?” Kurosawa asked, seeking confirmation, looking utterly baffled.
“I mean we’d have to take breaks to eat and stuff,” Adachi looked down, feeling slightly embarrassed at this point. “I mean it’s not like that’s all I want to do.”
“Sorry, sorry.” A sudden laugh burst from Kurosawa, his eyes crinkling in just the way Adachi loved. “It’s just, I can’t help but feel I’ve created a monster.”
“A monster?” Adachi gave a petulant frown.
“You know what I mean, angel,” Kurosawa said fondly, tapping playfully at Adachi’s nose. “It’s just a couple weeks ago you didn’t even want to make out in bed together and now--”
“A lot can change in a couple weeks,” Adachi interjected, continuing to pout.
“Oh, I know,” Kurosawa said, his voice dropping an octave lower than usual.
“So is that a yes?” Adachi asked slowly, a hopeful smile rising on his face.
“Is that even a question?” Kurosawa laughed. “I can not imagine a day better spent.”
Adachi just stared at Kurosawa a moment before gathering up his courage enough to raise himself up and swing a leg over Kurosawa’s waist so as to straddle him. Kurosawa’s eyes grew wide.
“Maybe we can get an early start?” Adachi suggested, already feeling a bit out of breath. He lowered his hands to slowly glide them up and down Kurosawa’s chest. “And we really should celebrate moving in together officially...”
Kurosawa’s eyes quickly grew dark, his hands coming to rest on Adachi’s thighs, lightly squeezing at them.
“Is that even a question?” Kurosawa repeated, sounding quite breathless himself.
Adachi grinned, lowering himself to meet Kurosawa’s lips.
He may have lost his magic tonight, but he’d gained something even greater. A home. And it wasn’t their shared apartment. It was with Kurosawa. And in some ways it always had been, he just hadn’t quite known it yet.
Now they were finally home.

Yeon Woo (Color Rush) vs. Jack (Trapped)
Man vs. Shin (3willbeFree)
Kang Gook vs. Ryu Ho Seon (Ryu's Wedding)
Tin vs. Kengkla
Mark (En of Love) vs. Wayu (Gen Y)
Phai (Gen Y) vs. Hin (LBC2)
Goodluck!!
Kongpob vs. Bbomb
This is a cruel, cruel choice. I love both of these boys so much and they have such similar stories and they work so well in their shows and I just love them so much. But I had to go with Kongpob in the end because, honestly, he had more room to pine because he's had so much more show to work with. But Bbomb is catching up quick with this last episode.
Mhok vs. Fiat
Fiat is just so good at pining. I just can't. Mhok got better in the special but he wasn't a good piner before that. He was much more toxic then Fiat ever was because Fiat was just going to hide away and never, ever talk about his feelings instead. So Fiat has to win. I love a piner who's willing to pine themselves away.
Kaeng vs. Mon
How do I choose?!? They're both so different at pining and so adorable and I love them both deeply in their own way. I think I have to go with Kaeng based on my four pillars of pining because he really does the best of filling them... sort of? They're both adorable, damnit.
Kurosawa vs. Na
Sorry, Na. Love you! But Kurosawa pretty much always wins. I cannot deny him anything. He always wins because he's the cutest and the softest and the most loving ever. So he wins without hesitation. Sorry! Love Na, though.
Third vs. Aey
This was hard but for the opposite reason of most of the others. Ugh. I went with Third because, I mean, pining? All the boy did was pine and cry in showers uselessly. Aey might have been pining but he was also too severely damaged to really pine in an enjoyable or healthy way.
Un vs. Chon
DAMN. This choice is interesting. I really do like Un's small and soft pining. But Chon. CHON. I love Chon so much and his tiny relationship trajectory and his adorableness. Plus, his pining is just fantastic.
Mark vs. Pok
Mark went more with pursuit than pining so I'm gonna give this to Pok. Pok gets to fuck Tong AND pine and it's absolutely fascinating honestly. I love him. Please let Gen Y season 2 exist sooner rather than later. I just want more of their mess!
Puth vs. Tue
... This is a rough choice because, honestly, I'm not sure how good either of their pining is. I went with Puth because he was pretty cute with Payu but it was still barely pining, honestly. And Tue is just... man, they were basically together in like 5 minutes y'all.
Kim Taehyung (Ryu's Wedding) vs. Sanha (Mr. Heart)
I gotta give it to Sanha. That boy's the happiest piner I've ever seen and he deserved all the joy in the world when he finally got his man. Taehyung was adorable and historical himbo beauty and he really was grand... but Sanha, yo, Sanha.
Pete (DBK) vs. Tann
Gotta give it to Tann. I gotta! He met him in university, never said anything and then managed to fall into him a second time. And got his adorable happy ending but with the perfect drama. Love a man who gets his man.
Sarawat vs. Cairo
I just don't like Sarawat that much. I also don't buy his pining. Sorry, y'all. Cairo was at least cute and I believed all of his emotions and all his feelings and his wants and needs and such. But Wat? Nope.
Mork vs. Fighter
No one loses to Mork. No one, ever, loses to Mork. It's impossible to lose a pining battle to a cardboard cutout. I would pick a character I didn't know over Mork. But I don't have to because I got Fighter! And I love Fighter! And Fighter's relationship with Tutor and his desperate pining and his need to get closer while still avoiding his feelings at all cost... I love him so much.
Haoting vs. YongJie
I am going with HaoTing despite my poor memory re: MODC because I remember adoring him and, frankly, YongJie made a better pursuer than piner because he was going to Get What He Wanted no matter what.
Mek vs. Wayo (2moons2)
I love Mek. I love Mek more than I should ever be allowed. Mek wins. Mek wins and I will miss him forever and ever and ever and ever and I love him. Sorry, Wayo. Also, Wayo, you're just a biiiit too much for my taste in the useless department. Sorry.
Forth vs. Thanu
Thanu can go to hell. At least Forth was cute and ended up happy. Thanu is just obnoxious.
Tri vs. Prab The Twins (Mab and Mob)
Ughhhhhh, do I have to chose? They both suck. The twins were the best piners in Brothers. So I declare them the winners instead! Sorry. Twins win!!!
Yu Hao (CTL) vs. Lichen
This one is close. But Lichen's soft and sad acceptance that he was just going to pine after Muren wins this for me. Yu Hao was adorable and wonderful, no denials. But Lichen's soft acceptance of his rejection? Was so good.
Shide vs. Nubsib
Another hard one! I wnet with ShiDe because his pining included a willingness to never have anything while Nubsib was like 'mine, this is going to be MINE and I will never give it up'. And I love pining that's willing to be unreciprocated.
Ae vs. Tew (SOTUS S)
I had to do Ae because, honestly, I don't remember Tew at all. SOTUS S is on my rewatch list for summer, okay? Promise! Also I love Ae and his feral demisexuality.
Kao (Oxygen) vs. Solo
I had to go with Kao. Kao's pining and pursuit are my favorite in the show. He learns to love bunnies! Come on! Solo was adorable and I love him and Gui deeply but Kao and Phu became my favorite.
Ming (2moons2) vs. Tum
Ming wins. Mings so hard it almost hurts. I love Ming, I love MingKit, I love boys who can melt a tsundere heart and I love a melted tsundere so much it almost hurts. Plus, Ming does a great job of pining and flirting.
Mes vs. In (UWMA)
In is not a piner. In is the opposite of a piner. In does not pine. In walks up to a guy everyone says is dangerous and asks him out on a date. Anyone wins over In because In doesn't pine. But Mes is also adorable.
Ram vs. Boss
This one is hard. I don't actually consider Boss to be a good piner. I feel like he missed the mark, especially in comparision to Mek. But Ram also isn't the most pining of characters. Though he definitely does better than Boss. So Ram it is!
Jedi (Close Friend) vs. Zon
I had to go with Jedi because Zon is more pursued than pining. He does do some, no denial. But Jedi is the best and adorable about his whole pining and every time he sees Ray he turns into a tiny incoherent creature of nothing but want and need. Love. LOVE>
Blue vs. Team (Y-Destiny)
I miss Blue. I wish we'd gotten a special for that couple as well as the SaifanZon special, honestly. Because they deserved so much better than COVID gave them. Also, Team
Pi vs. Tsuge
Tsuge wins. He was so adorable and useless. Just adorable. And his love of cats and delivery boys and awkwardness and the fact that, in the end, he learned how to communicate... I love him so much, okay?
Yeon Woo (Color Rush) vs. Jack (Trapped)
Gotta go with Color Rush every time. Jack is adorable but Yeon Woo wins all pining wars. Ugh, the pining in that show. So good. Such a god show.
Man vs. Shin (3willbeFree)
Nearly impossible choice. But I love and miss Shin, okay? He deserves this. He was so soft and so in love and so unsure and he deserved in in every way.
Kang Gook vs. Ryu Ho Seon (Ryu's Wedding)
I gotta give it to Kang Gook. He was willing to give up so much and so willing to just keep going and just... yeah. Sorry. I gotta give it to him.
Tin vs. Kengkla
KENGKLA IS CANCELED FOREVER. Tin wins because he is both adorable and absolutely useless. I mean, breaking Can's phone just to get his phone number? SO GOOD. So stupid. I love it so much. Also, Kengkla can burn in hell.
Mark (En of Love) vs. Wayu (Gen Y)
This was hard. But I had to go with Wayu. I just... I had to give this to him, okay? He's cute and he's soft and he might be useless and their relationship was never that great but like... he's cute? And healthier than Mark. I dunno, I never loved Mark.
Phai (Gen Y) vs. Hin (LBC2)
This one was rough. But I gotta give to Hin. I mean, damn. DAMN. I love Hin. And I love his story. And Phai just ended up in such a mess... Oof. At least Hin came to his adorable pining senses.

CHERRY MAGIC TIMELINE (DRAMA CANON)
I rewatched Cherry Magic over the last couple days as one does and thought it’d be fun to keep track of the dates/when things happen. For the most part it’s very easy as there are several very specific dates mentioned in the show.
You might notice several Saturdays where they’re at work-- this seems to be pretty standard in Japanese office culture, to work a couple Saturdays a month.
You also might notice a very major time jump that would have happened between Episodes 10 and 11-- I could write this off as a suspension of disbelief type thing, but since there are so many specific dates referenced in the show, and going off Adachi’s pain at keeping his secret from Kurosawa for so long in Ep 11 I think it might be accurate. Please let me know if I missed anything!! :)
Sometime in 2013 - Adachi and Kurosawa are both hired at Toyokawa. The dinner with President Matsuura happens and Kurosawa falls in love with the first person who's ever told him he's more than a pretty face.
Feb 14 2020 - Kurosawa gives Adachi some free chocolate he got off the street.
Oct 1 2020 - Urabe teases Adachi for never having had a girlfriend, tells him of the urban legend of becoming a 30 y/o virgin wizard.
Fri Oct 2 - Adachi's 30th birthday, he discovers his powers.
Fri Oct 9: this is the day the episode aired, and it also works with the timeline in later episodes - Adachi bumps into Kurosawa in the elevator and discovers his feelings. That night Kurosawa offers to help Adachi with his extra work, they're there so late Adachi misses the last train and Kurosawa insists Adachi stay over at his place. We get scarf wrapping, geeking out over manga, Kurosawa fantasising about Adachi in his jammies, neither of them can sleep.
Sat Oct 10 - Kurosawa makes them breakfast. At the office Kurosawa scolds Urabe for putting down Adachi's work. At the end of the day Kurosawa offers some files to help Adachi with the extra work Urabe gave him. Adachi chases after him and asks him out for dinner, but Rokkaku interrupts before they can go and tells them to come out drinking. We get Kurosawa lamenting over the lost date, Adachi helping out Rokkaku, The King's Game drama. Adachi goes to comfort Kurosawa and we have Kurosawa being sad and gay and Adachi assuring him he's just an anxious virgin and Rokkaku interrupts an almost kiss.
Oct 11-Oct 25 - Adachi avoids Kurosawa.
Mon Oct 26 - Urabe asks Adachi and Fujisaki to go buy desserts, they talk about love and life, and are harrassed on the way back to the office. Kurosawa comes to the rescue. Adachi discovers Fujisaki is the aroace queen of our dreams. Kurosawa patches up Adachi’s hand. Kurosawa has trouble with a big client and Adachi uses his power to help. Kurosawa thanks him and gives him a couple mochi cakes as thanks. Rokkaku invites Adachi for lunch, giving him a bunch of food and snacks in thanks for his help at drinks a couple weeks ago. As the two are leaving work that night they see a beautiful woman run up to Kurosawa and beg to stay the night with him. Adachi walks home in the rain and falls asleep in his wet clothes in a fit of despair.
Tue Oct 27 - Adachi is sick all day, and goes to leave work early. Kurosawa notices and insists on taking him home, and as they’re getting into a taxi the woman from the night before jumps in. She turns out to be Kurosawa’s sister and demands to stay over at Kurosawa’s again, making him go home with Adachi to care for him. Kurosawa spends the whole night nursing Adachi back to health.
Wed Oct 28: Kurosawa directly references the date, and it retroactively works for all the previous dates - Kurosawa makes Adachi porridge, and the “day one of our private sweet life!” fantasy. Rokkaku interrupts again, and asks to join Kurosawa and Adachi for the night. We get Kurosawa being adorably jealous, Adachi being a very sweet and supportive friend. Kurosawa thinks about how special Adachi is to him and wonders what he’s doing to himself and leaves in the middle of the night.
Thurs Oct 29 - Adachi is worried over Kurosawa leaving early and his distance throughout the day. As they leave the office Adachi awkwardly talks about how he’s never had anyone to take care of him other than family, and Kurosawa tells him he can’t stay with Adachi anymore. He confesses his feelings and claims the next time they see each other everything will be back to normal.
Fri Oct 30: When Adachi is confessing, he mentions “yesterday” so this does happen the next day - Kurosawa is away in Osaka for the day and reflects over his history with Adachi, and how he has to let go of his feelings. Adachi realizes how much he enjoys Kurosawa’s company and how he’s always thinking about him, and runs to meet Kurosawa on his way home. He confesses his feelings and they hug and we all cry, and as they walk home Adachi asks if he wants to go out to eat and Kurosawa teases him about going to his place.
Sat Oct 31 - Kurosawa bought a one-way ticket to flirt city this morning. He finds Adachi in the break room and asks him to spend the day together tomorrow.
Sun Nov 1 - Tsuge shows up at Adachi’s right before Kurosawa, and we have some prime clown to clown communication while Tsuge talks about how he agreed to go watch Minato dance. Kurosawa suggests they all go and we get: Tsuge being awkward around his crush, Kurosawa and Adachi giggling over Tsuge being awkward around his crush, a fight and Kurosawa blanking out for a solid four seconds over being called ossan. We get some more clown to clown communication, Adachi and Kurosawa walking home and having a very sweet conversation about taking things step by step, Tsuge catches Minato’s friend kissing him and runs away.
Tue Nov 10: Adachi refers to how they’ve been dating for 9 days - Kurosawa apparently stayed the night and they played video games together aww, they have a goofy morning together being in love. Urabe points out how happy Adachi is lately. Kurosawa and Adachi share onigiri for lunch and Rokkaku interrupts again. As they’re leaving the break room Kurosawa asks Adachi to have another go at their date this coming weekend and they see the poster for the design competition. Rokkaku later finds Adachi and angrily asks him to contact Tsuge. That night after work Adachi, Kurosawa, and Rokkaku meet Tsuge at a coffee shop and Rokkaku immediately starts a fight with Tsuge over his apparent homophobia, since he’s been avoiding Minato ever since he caught him kissing his ex. Tsuge assures them he has been avoiding Minato but not because he’s gay, and runs off to find Minato and they confess to each other, and later that evening have sex. As Kurosawa and Adachi walk home Kurosawa gives him the forms to sign up for the design competition, saying he’ll be rooting for him if he gives it a try. Adachi says Kurosawa has given him the confidence to try and they hug.
Wed Nov 11 - Rokkaku thanks Adachi for his help with Tsuge and Minato. Adachi hands in his application for the design competition.
Sometime in the next couple days - Adachi and Kurosawa go for coffee after work where Adachi apologizes for how much of his time the competition will take, and Kurosawa says their date can wait, but he’ll be expecting a reward later. Tsuge calls Adachi to gush over his relationship with Minato and tell Adachi not to be afraid of losing his magic, and Adachi starts to really think about being intimate with Kurosawa.
Sat Nov 14: Adachi mentions how there’s only three days until the deadline for his proposal. On the application form, it says the proposals are due by 5pm Nov 17th - Adachi shows his ideas to Fujisaki and Kurosawa, but Rokkaku calls it boring. Kurosawa tells him not to worry about it, that inspiration sometimes comes from nowhere.
Sun Nov 15 - Adachi and Kurosawa are hanging out at Adachi’s place, and they talk about the expectations of other people. Kurosawa suggests they get out to clear their heads and have a “practise date”. We get the sweetest montage of them having fun at Tokyo Dome, and then when Adachi gets sick Kurosawa privately worries about not being able to always keep Adachi happy. That night Adachi finishes his project proposal.
Mon Nov 16: Adachi refers to their date as “yesterday” - Adachi hands in his proposal, and asks Kurosawa to have another practice date with him that evening. He takes them to the bookstore and izakaya, and Adachi shows Kurosawa his proposal. They have a conversation about communication and how they should be able to relax around each other. As they are walking home Adachi accidentally responds to Kurosawa’s thoughts and thinks about how if Kurosawa knew they couldn’t be together in the same way anymore.
Sun Dec 13: This one is mostly speculation, but I feel it works as the conversation between Adachi and Tsuge is so fresh in his mind the next day, and Adachi also refers to Tsuge’s problems when they see each other on Christmas Eve - Tsuge and Adachi get lunch and Tsuge talks about his relationship troubles, and warns Adachi about not relying too much on his power.
Mon Dec 14: Kurosawa mentions how they have a week to prepare for Adachi’s presentation - Adachi has passed into the second phase of the design competition, and Kurosawa promises to spend all their time special training for his presentation. Adachi apologizes for how much of Kurosawa’s time he’s taking up, but Kurosawa assures him it will all be worth it to enjoy their “first Christmas together and the best date ever”.
Dec 16/17/18 - Montage of the two of them preparing for Adachi’s presentation. It’s also at some point during this week Kurosawa talks to Fujisaki about a restaurant for his date with Adachi.
Mon Dec 21 - Also known as Kurosawa and Adachi’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Kurosawa gives Adachi a bento reminding him to believe in himself, Adachi uses his power to connect with the planning and development committee and then feels guilty for cheating and then doesn’t pass anyway. Adachi tells Kurosawa about his powers and then admits he doesn’t know if he’ll be able to be in a relationship with him if he doesn’t have them, and they break up :(
Dec 22/23 - Kurosawa and Adachi are very sad and literally everybody knows. Urabe and Fujisaki both have conversations with Adachi about being happy/true to himself.
Thurs Dec 24 - Tsuge goes to see Adachi and tells him that he has to learn to communicate with the people he loves, even if it’s hard. Adachi races off to meet Kurosawa, they reconcile and hug and Kurosawa asks Adachi to be his office pal for life and fireworks go off and everyone’s cryin’.
Fri Dec 25 - First day of the rest of their private sweet life!!
Sometime over the next couple months - Rokkaku tries to suss out what Adachi and Kurosawa’s relationship and determines they’re just really good senpais to him... truly pure of heart, dumb of ass. Tsuge and Minato have a misunderstanding and then talk it out.
Feb 14 2021 - Kurosawa is in a jealous fit all day over himself, and then he and Adachi exchange true love chocolate <3

Cherry Magic or Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?! Rating: 9/10
As the winter rolled into my part of the world and everything got scary and sad with the virus, the one thing that was a consistent bright spot for me was the 25-ish minutes every week when I’d get to watch the newest episode of the Japanese BL Cherry Magic.
This is the show that we needed to cap off 2020. It’s just...it’s nice. There are no villains or scheming. The only thing getting in the way of our protagonist’s happiness is himself.
And speaking of, said lead character is named Adachi. We meet Adachi on the day before his thirtieth birthday. He works in an office where he keeps a low profile because he has very low self-esteem and very little confidence in himself.
Tumblr media
The other main character is Kurosawa, Adachi’s co-worker and the smart, handsome, and popular guy in the office that everyone loves.
Tumblr media
(I mean, literally look at this man.)
When Adachi wakes up on his thirtieth birthday, he discovers that an old wives’ tale is actually true: if you are a virgin by the time you turn thirty years old, you become a wizard. In this case, it means that overnight Adachi develops the ability to read people’s minds when he touches them, whether he wants to or not.
Then Adachi touches Kurosawa in a crowded elevator and accidentally learns that Kurosawa has a huge crush on him. Instead of being excited or emboldened, this makes the introverted Adachi even more nervous and awkward around him.
Tumblr media
Many movies, TV shows, novels, etc have tackled the idea of mindreading, but never have I seen it more pleasantly handled. There’s no scenes where Adachi uses his power to get revenge or find out a terrible secret about someone else. In fact, what Adachi discovers is that he’s not the only person with anxieties and fears, and that his co-workers are actually very kind and just trying their best the same as him.
This goes double - nay, triple - for Kurosawa, who is a full on Prince Charming. His inner-monologue only makes him more desirable. He thinks Adachi is wonderful and wishes he could help him become more confident. Occasionally, thanks to Adachi’s powers, we get flashes of fantasies that Kurosawa has about Adachi. These allow us to see Adachi through Kurosawa’s eyes. It’s adorable and sweet and charming and perfect, perfect, perfect.
Tumblr media
The acting by the two leads is immaculate. Eiji Akaso, who plays Adachi, does awkward and stuttering so well. He also perfectly conveys the moments when Adachi has to visibly summon his courage to speak to Kurosawa.
Tumblr media
And if you don’t end up falling in love with Keita Machida as Kurosawa, then I don’t even want to know you, frankly. His charisma is visible from space, and the earnest way that he dotes on Adachi and encourages him is precious. Both of these roles were cast to perfection.
It seems kind of petty to take off points in the rating because the episodes are so short, but UGH. This show epitomizes the concept of ‘leave them wanting more.’
The only thing that didn’t click for me as well was the side couple. Adachi’s best friend Tsuge also becomes a wizard and gets his own romance with the guy who delivers his packages. The problem is that the actor who plays Tsuge is so over the top in his portrayal that I would get secondhand embarrassment just watching him. This is clearly what he was told to do, because there are times when he tones it down while speaking with Adachi or his love interest, Minato.
Tumblr media
Perhaps his shouty, overwrought performance matches the character in the manga, but it doesn’t translate well to live action, in my opinion. This is especially true when you contrast it with the natural performances of the rest of the cast. Adachi has his emotional moments, but nowhere near Tsuge, who faints on more than one occasion.
Tumblr media
(This from Adachi, for example, was a lot.)
All 12 episodes + 3 short specials are like a warm balm to your soul. They are so romantic and soothing and optimistic. Do yourself a favor, engage in some self-care and watch this one. You won’t regret it.

Cherry Magic Ep 8 Observations and Comments: Kurodachi’s love for each other.
This episode was so sweet and now our fave couple is actually together, there’s no more angst of unrequited feelings/ anxiety about what it means. Kurodachi love each other! they both know how much they mean to each other. For Kurosawa it’s a dream, it’s insane he’s been hopelessly in love with Adachi and now he’s able to be near Adachi, able to take Adachi everywhere, to plan a perfect date for Adachi. As long as he’s with Adachi nothing else matters even just holding hands and being on the bus together is a date to him. I laughed so hard at his poem his smile and his forgetful face as he smiled to him self and called Adachi his shy angel. Notice he’s not mad at Adachi or worried that Adachi didn’t introduce him as a boyfriend he’s just so in love with Adachi for who he is and he knows it’s just Adachi being shy.
But then Adachi has spent the whole day with him falling even more and feeling more comfortable with Kurosawas feelings never leaving. That’s why he stands up and comes out to Tsuge. He felt tired and worried about all the preparations and things and thoughts needed when in a relationship. It’s stressful to look good for the other person, awkward to know what to do next with each other, when do they say they’re a couple etc But Adachi realises each time he reads Kurosawa’s mind that it’s just him that Kurosawa thinks about, no stress just loud bursts of feelings and love in his mind. He is patient and understanding to Adachi, he is helpful with Adachis friend, and he’s soft and cute and cringe but it’s sweet. Adachi is also just as in love and safe with Kurosawa. He knows he’ll be okay even if there’s a lot to think about in the relationship because it’s Kurosawa, Kurosawa will keep being patient, understanding and unconditional to him so he doesn’t need to worry about falling or looking stupid.
In comparison I don’t know what to say about Tsuge and Minato. I think Minato also has noticed Tsuge and likes his presence that’s why he invited him to come see him dance in his mind. Tbh that Keita kiss was a suprise so what he’s a tsundere he bully’s Minato because he likes him? Get a grip. I wonder what happens now because it’s all become a bit more angsty for these two, I didn’t even think they had angst since the manga spoilers told me they’re slow. I like it though just confused what we’re doing with them now. I also like Tsuge and Adachi friendship, the magic has increased their actual intimacy and friendship with each other, now they’re both going to be closer and less lonely, the magic also introduced them to feel and see love. I’m happy for these two virgins and I hope Tsuge will get his own happy ending.

Hi I was wondering if you could give poor International souls just a quick summary of what happened in episode 5 of Cherry Magic? I have next to no clue of what was going on lol. You can just ignore this if you want, it's fine!
Sure!
The client is in a bad mood but nobody knows why. Adachi wants to help Kurosawa out for all that he’s done for him and goes through a few hurdles to read the client’s mind. Having found out the client has been served the wrong kind of cake, he rushes to buy the right kind. This saves the day. Kurosawa thanks Adachi and promises to buy him dinner. Adachi gets such a rush out of Kurosawa thanking him he goes to let out a little scream inside the copy machine.
Meanwhile Tsuge has enrolled at Oops What Are These Feelings University, studying works such as Love Techniques According to Charismatic CEO or The Oxfordian Approach to Psychology of Fluttering Hearts while waiting for the cute delivery boy. Cute delivery boy arrives, Tsuge experiences a series of heart palpitations which bring him onto the verge of a mental breakdown. He then tries to mask it with a series of odd behaviour and almost succeeds but to his demise hears the cute delivery boy think shinpai sasenna baka, you got me fucking worried. The feelings cause Tsuge to fall onto the floor where he then proceeds to inspect the dirt, as one might.
Adachi on the other hand feels like he might have changed just a little bit, fondly studying the daifuku Kurosawa has gotten for him as thanks. He wonders whether it’s because of his magic ability or because of something else, but his train of thought is broken by Rokkaku who is really eager to buy him an expensive bentou for lunch. Rokkaku waxes poetic about his respect for Adachi and his ‘secret’ and for a moment Adachi panics that Rokkaku has somehow figured out his ability. Rokkaku then proves this wrong by declaring Adachi a kikubarist (kikubari = ‘spreading qi energy’, being considerate of others and in tune to their needs) and asks Adachi to teach him his ways.
After the encounter with Rokkaku, Adachi is surprised to realise even someone like him can inspire others. He thinks he has been able to put himself out there more because of the feelings Kurosawa has for him. However, the fuzzy moment is shortlived as he witnesses the conversation of Kurosawa and a mystery woman. The woman asks to stay at Kurosawa’s place for the night because she can’t stand her boyfriend anymore, referring to Kurosawa by his first name in a very familiar manner. Rokkaku has seen the mystery woman with Kurosawa before and believes she’s his ex-girlfriend. This upsets Adachi and he goes home in the rain. At night Adachi has a dream of Kurosawa and the mystery woman lounging sexily.
The next morning Adachi wakes up with a cold. Feeling sorry for himself, he convinces himself Kurosawa belongs with a person like the beautiful mystery woman, not a loser like him. He and Kurosawa are just colleagues. Isn’t that what he wanted? So why does it feel so bad?
After a shitty day at work, Adachi heads home. Worried, Kurosawa runs after him and insists on taking him home since he’s obviously not feeling well. Adachi lashes out, claiming he can manage just fine. The reaction puzzles even himself. Why did he get so angry? Having calmed down, Adachi repeats he’s fine before passing out. Kurosawa picks him up and scolds him, zenzen daijoubu janai darou, you’re not fine at all.
As they hop into a taxi, Adachi finally realises why seeing Kurosawa with his alleged ex made him feel bad: Kurosawa’s feelings for him changing would make him sabishii (sad/lonely/missing something). Adachi and Kurosawa get no time alone however as the mystery woman inserts herself in the situation. We leave the episode with Adachi fearing they have been caught red-handed.
That about concludes it! I can do another recap next week if you’d like!

Tsuge is so affection-starved.
It breaks my heart when I wonder about how long he has been alone. And he was fine with being alone. "If you’re lonely just get a cat” is the talk of a man who has resigned himself to a life of solitude. To a life of loneliness. To a life without love.
Maybe that’s why when Minato came into the picture and said a kind word about him Tsuge was immediately touched. Because nobody had shown him kindness in a long time. Maybe because of his social anxiety but he doesn’t seem to interact with anybody except his one best friend. Adachi’s workplace is outside so while he’s also lonely at the start of the series at least he has a reason to go out 5 days a week. Adachi has people around him, colleagues, gets dragged to work dinners etc. Tsuge? He works at home, his life is even lonelier.
It is very very easy to fall into melancholy and become even more of a hermit living like that. So when people say they are “weirded out” how fast Tsuge fell for Minato... I don’t think they quite understand what position Tsuge was in. He wasn’t ready to like someone, he actively said he doesn’t want to, he would rather have his cat. So when it happened, unexpectedly after years of solitude, he didn’t even know how to handle it but it was intense and new and terrifying. I think Tsuge is a very brave character who, despite being scared, went out of his comfort zone in order to reach out to Minato. When he could have just as easily allowed his anxiety and insecurities to hold him back.
