hi there chris! since the new year is approaching rapidly, i wanted to ask my favorite creators (that includes you! i love your art!) how they look back on their 2023 tumblr year and which blogs made them happy to be here. i am very happy to follow you and hope you'll have a great 2024! 💘
Hiiii omg this is so sweet and means a lot to me, thank you! 🥺💕
I've been meaning to do a little end-of-the-year shoutout/love post for some of my favorite blogs, so I hope you don't mind if I use your ask as the perfect excuse!
I've had many fun years on tumblr, but this one has been extra special. Falling into the Good Omens fandom and meeting all of you amazing people has made this year so so SO much better than it otherwise would have been, so here are some special shoutouts (apologies, I'm sure this will get long, things like this tend to get away from me, so I'll put it under a read-more)
@majortomyourcurcuitsdead SASHA can you believe I was going to just send you an anon telling you that I think you're cool and leave it at that. Can you believe it. WELL thank Somebody you had your anon turned off and I had to expose myself in your dms because it feels like we just instantly connected about like 20 different things and haven't stopped talking since sskjdfhs anyway I'm so happy I met you you're so fun and so clever and so talented and so enthusiastic and I've only known you for like. What 2 months?? Ish? But I already love you so much <3
@lineffability !!! Line you are so *struggles to find words* you're just great is what you are okay. I feel like you are what happens when somebody takes a big cup and puts six shots of love, chaos, sunshine, talent, fun, and enthusiasm into it, generously sprinkles intelligence on top and gives it a good stir. I don't even remember how or when or why we started talking tbh? But your creativity is so inspiring, and some of my favorite tumblr-moments of this year have been 'yes-and'ing with you about one thing or another in a very >:3 manner hahah so! my point is! i love you lots <3
@dontbotheraziraphale Teeeedddd you're wonderful, I vented at you one time and then we talked for like 2 hours and at the end of that 1 conversation I already considered you a friend - and not just in that "tumblr mutuals who talk 1 time are my friends" kind of way but like. Genuinely. You're so kind and so fun and every time we talk it's such a good time ily a lot my bro my buddy my man <3
@crikey01 Tallulah HI I also completely forgot how we started talking but I remember connecting the dots that you were the one who painted those INSANE black and white and gold oil paintings and the way my jaw dropped like?? BRO you're so talented I admire you so much! And I love that we bonded over stopping each other from masochistically checking certain peoples' blogs... 😂 Anyway you're so sweet and fun and ily lots <3
---
The list could probably go on but you four are the people I've talked to most on here and you're the tumblr chat boxes I never close but always just minimize and y'all better see this as the ultimate internet declaration of affection that it Clearly is >:D 💕
---
And here are some more shout-outs because I just HAVE to.
Apologies, I know I've already tagged a bunch of you recently in a mutuals appreciation post but. This is my official thank-you-for-2023 post and I just have a lot of love for you all okay sorry feel free to ignore this <3
@rowan-ashtree (i'll text you back soon I promise I'm sorry I just haven't had the brain-space recently ssjkdfh) @crawley-fell (we've never talked but i love you from afar :')) @ineffabildaddy @llokilaufeyson @actual-changeling @saryasy @hyperfocusthusly @beccibarnes @rainbowcrowley @thesherrinfordfacility @goodoldfashionednightingale @wibbly-wobbly-blog @highlyillogicalandroid (i see your data obsession and i agree <3) @tortugay @foolishlovers @stargazing-crowley @gingiekittycat @weasleywrinkles @bildads-shoes @finleycannotdraw @bowtiepastabitch @heytherefluffy @samwwise @nocturnal-birb @athousandyearstime @angelsdiningattheritz @most-normal-eccles-cake-ignorer @jedthesecretdreamer @wraithee @hydrangeadangea @southfarthing @frodo-baggins @mobius-m-mobius

WIP Actually-on-a-Wednesday-this-time
thank you so much for the tag, @miraakulous-cloud-district! 💖 I thought I'd wrangle myself into doing WIP Wednesday actually on the day (very unlike me, I assure you) and share an excerpt from the in-progress seventh chapter of i fear no fate (for you are my fate) ft. Miraak having a real Moment™...
Miraak is—He’s—There’s so much to see, so much to notice after centuries upon centuries of what might as well have been a living death, and the very soul of him sighs as he takes a tentative step over the threshold and at last sets foot on green grass and spring-cool soil. With every eager inhale, he soaks in the scent of ripe, ready fruits he cannot yet name and flowers he knows only through black-and-white illustrations and the perfume that clings to the sweet, soft spot at the base of Elentari’s throat. And yet all of that hard-won breath rushes right out of him in the next instant, when the heavens shift above them and begin to dance, alive and alight with twirling gossamer ribbons of pink and violet and emerald and ice-blue and, like a crack through which sunglow streams, a thin cord of the purest gold. Kyne is watching. He had given up on gods in Apocrypha. No, it wasn’t quite like that, not by choice: he’d given up on them because he’d been certain that they’d given up on him. After all, hadn’t Bormahii done nothing but watch in silence as a tide of ink swallowed up the broken body of his firstborn, who did not go quietly but went clawing at the fractured earth and blood-soaked snow, calling out for Vahlok as if two shattered-apart men could ever hope to stand against what waited below? Hadn’t they all stood by as Mora prised the memories from his mind so that he’d forget the low-voiced hymns to Sister Hawk he’d sung into the answering wind; forget the nights he’d crept, unmasked with unearthed lute in hand, to the fragrant, starlit meeting-places of the Moth; forget how the singing and the dancing and the play of his fingers over the strings had felt like a reclamation, a calling-back of a tiny, tucked-away part of him that would never bow or bend or break? And then there had come—and come again—Elentari, Light-bringer, Laat Dovahkiin, with a Voice that had vanquished him and the World-Eater both. Elentari with the bloody hands, the healer’s hands, that had clung so tightly to his as she and what might well have been one of Mara’s chosen wolves guided him back to where he belonged. And now there are the lights. Proof that Kyne sees him. Proof that she welcomes him, perhaps even that she forgives him, her lost son returned. It is not a conscious decision, the way he sinks to his knees in the grass. Rather, it is—it is instinctive, he thinks, like drawing in air. Beside him, Elentari starts, no doubt assuming he’s lost his balance, but then she must see it, how his chin tips up and tears spill down his cheeks. “Kaan,” he whispers to the skies, to the stirring breeze, to the shadow of a hawk soaring above him. “Monah. Zu’u lor hi vodeinaan zey.” ("Kaan. Monah. Zu'u lor hi vodeinaan zey" - "Kyne. Mother. I thought you [had] forsaken me.")
now, I tag... @nocturance, @bougainvillea-and-saltwater, @kiir-do-faal-rahhe, @shitty-drawer, and @bostoniangirl21! 😼

Ok, melody AND parchment
Turnabout is fair play ;-)
Fav Artists. My list is probably not as long as yours.
Music, as everyone here knows The Beastie Boys. But beyond that it varies widely from classical, jazz, 90's (I'm a disaffected Gen Xer). I've been into a lot of new country and bluegrass lately. I also will admit that I am/was a big fan of Kanye, but have sworn him off after the...all of it. I miss the old Kanye.
Art: I have a thing lately for Text-based art, so Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer (see bio for an inside joke/reference), Tracey Emin, Ed Ruscha, etc. It's funny because that is not the style I'd gravitate towards in a museum. Kehinde Wiley. My FAV piece of art is Whistler's Nocture in Black and Gold-The Falling Rocket, and it is in my local museum. Shepard Fairey. Ravi Amir Zupa. Also really into photography - Gordon Parks, Saul Leiter and so on and so forth.
Fav Book. That's a tough one and I thought I'd get asked so I looked at my GoodReads to see what I had tagged 5 stars, and I'm almost embarrassed at some of the ones on there (Jonathan Franzen, I was a big fan even though he's fucking insufferable). If I had to pick ONE, I'd probably default to On the Road by Kerouac, which I've been meaning to reread to see if it holds up or is just an angst filled coming of age story that I loved when I was in my 20s. I also liked The Dharma Bums by Kerouac. I'd put most @neil-gaiman stuff in my Favs (Anansi Boys, American Gods, Good Omens, etc, I haven't read a NG book I haven't enjoyed) and finally The Brothers K, by David James Duncan.
Thanks for the ask :-)

James McNeill Whistler, Nocture in Black and Gold: The Falling Rocket, 1875, oil on panel. The Detroit Institute of Arts.
When Whistler painted this impression of exploding rockets it shocked the art world. One critic equaled the painting to "flinging a pot of paint in the public's face".
