Gris and Neva.
Tumblr media
I really love Indie Games and Gris is one of my favorites!
I had this illustration in mind for so long and finally I could draw Gris with Neva, a new game of the same Studio that you should take a look. 🖤

I am very excited for Neva and very curious about Alba’s story. GRIS has a very special place in my heart and I can’t wait to see what Nomada Studio has in store for us to touch us deeply again!

Gris, a game about grief and mourning and it's probably the most artistic and beautiful video game experience out there. It was also the first game I ever streamed. No ragrets. Go play it!

『 Friend 』
This is an old piece I found a couple of days ago, from 2021, which I have never published and I am not sure why. I think I didn't like it back then.
It's a GRIS fan art. Love that game so much.

Publisher Devolver Digital and GRIS developer Nomada Studio have announced Neva for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch, and PC (Steam). It will launch in 2024.
Here is an overview of the game, via Devolver Digital:
About
Neva is an emotionally-charged action adventure from the visionary team behind the critically acclaimed GRIS.
Neva chronicles the story of Alba, a young woman bound to a curious wolf cub following a traumatic encounter with dark forces. Together they embark on a perilous journey through a once-beautiful world as it slowly decays around them.
Over time, their relationship will evolve as they learn to work together, helping one another to brave increasingly dangerous situations. The wolf will grow from a rebellious cub to an imposing adult seeking to forge his own identity, testing Alba’s love and their commitment to one another.
As the cursed world threatens to overwhelm them, Alba and her courageous companion will do whatever it takes to survive and make a new home, together.

Gris? Gris
@bl3mp0p you have awoken the autistic beast
Gris is an art centered videogame created by Nomada studio, an indie studio from Barcelona that got together exclusively to make this game
Tumblr media
In the game we take control of a little blue haired girl in a grey dress that traverses through different worlds as you slowly unlock colors for the world and new abilities with the dress (this will be long lmao)
Areas & abilities:
Tumblr media
We start off in a colorless wasteland, with only ruined structures, dead trees, rocks, and little robots scattered about. There isn’t much to do here, only walk around, collect some stars to cross a gap, and get into the main hub
Tumblr media
After we unlock the red, we go on into the red desert, an also barren place, but with more signs of civilisation and strong winds that hit you from time to time and halt your progress
Here we gain the block ability, an ability that turns us incredibly heavy that allows us to walk through the strong winds, it can also be used to break weak floors and reach further
Tumblr media
Then, we unlock green, which turns the world into a lushing forest filled with life, apples, and cute little robots that eat those apples (look a the bottom right)
This place gives us the triangle ability, an ability where we can turn our dress into wings that gives us a double jump and slow falling, for harder flatforms
In this area, however, we encounter what will be the main enemy of the game, a swarm of butterflies that can take any form. In this area, they become a bird, of which well have to fly away from and later defeat with a giant bell
Tumblr media
After that, we go through the blue area which, you guessed, is underwater
Tumblr media
Obviously, we gain the ability to turn our dress into a fish tail thingy(?) that allows us to swin underwater.
After unlocking a giant red turtle that guides us in dark areas, we encounter the black butterflies again, this time taking the form of a giant eel
Tumblr media
We unlock the color yellow, but the woman’s statue that we’ve been seeing throughout the game gets broken by the black mass. Luckily, we escape
Tumblr media
And now we enter my favourite area by far, the yellow palace. This place is oozing with life, although there are a few dead plants here and there
Tumblr media
That’s where your last ability comes into play: sing! We can bring dead/closed plants into life within a certain radius, and that will give us the ability to progress further
During the game, we have been collecting these star shining dot thingies, that get together in the sky of the main hub to make a ladder that will lead us into the sky, and these last few stars collected will finally be enough to get out of here. Great, right?
You fool. You absolute imbecile
The butterflies make a comeback, and this time, they’re more powerful than ever
You can see glimpses of the bird and the eel, but the form they end up choosing is...
...is you?
Tumblr media
They swallow everything, leaving nothing but white, and eating you at last
Tumblr media
You’re left in a black lake, swimming for the surface
Once you get on top, you find a small ruined island. You keep on going up. climbing on floating chunks of rock. You encounter the beast once again, and it tries to swallow you in darkess, but instead of staying frozen in place, you decide to sing
Tumblr media
It works
The darkness disappears all around you, and you’re left back at the main hub, the staircase of stars looking at you. You look at the woman statue that has been appearing all throughout your journey. You kiss it goodbye, and climb up high in the sky
It was weird, and kinda cryptic, but it was nice, right?
What if I told you that there’s more?
Because I omitted a crucial piece of info
An achievement that will flip your view of the game completely
I’m gonna put a bit of space here so you can rethink this and go play the game or watch someone play it, and get surprised by the game yourself
Because I never thought I would get so taken aback by a singular steam achievement
.
Ready?
.
Go
.
So, as you get up from the lake of darkness, you see the statued woman in a different position, laying in a weird table thing
Tumblr media
You can see wilted flowers and, as you have done multiple times before, you sing
The plants come back to life, as always
And then the achievement pops up
Tumblr media
“Acceptance”
Something clicks
You think back at the previous worlds
Tumblr media
Denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance
This game was a journey
A journey through grief
