Avatar AU - A Spirit messes up the world so that all the benders disappear leaving Sokka, Suki, Mai, and Ty Lee to try and fix things. However, they’re met with some resistance because some people don’t want the benders to come back.

i keep thinking about zuko during the day of black sun, starting down his father who's goaded him into staying by torturing him with details of his missing mother, only to use that opportunity to try and kill him again.... only for Zuko to use a technique Ozai did not even know possible, flowing through motions that are distinctly not firebending demonstrating a power so different and deeper than Ozai could ever fathom... idk man just zuko

Au where instead of hunting the gaang down, Zuko goes to them like “I will help train the Avatar in firebending.” And gives the (true) excuse that he has to wait until after he learns earth. So he’s there from book one, following the gaang and just getting to know them. He had originally planned to betray them, but… they’re so welcoming, and they get into so many shenanigans and save so many people and…well, he can wait a couple more weeks to betray them. (He never does)

LOL I love going on TV Tropes and seeing things like "Tenzin being his only airbending child forced Aang to play favorites". But like...forced by who? No one forced Aang to do anything. There was nothing stopping him from spending time and sharing his culture with all three of his kids. He made a conscious decision to be a crappy father.

His hands were tied by Aang. He fought it, but once Aang makes a decision, Aang has no choice but to go along with the tyrant🙃. I think it's telling that Aang still felt able to teach the Acolytes, even though none of them were airbenders either.
