NPCs—a tribute.

NPCs, NPCs, #NPCs. You gotta love 'em. You don't have much choice, in fact. They are quite possibly one of the very best things about #gaming, and provide seemingly endless, albeit accidental, entertainment. Walking into walls? Check. Walking into each other? Check. Running into space, for no obvious reason, drawing weapon and assuming battle stance, for no obvious reason, before withdrawing and walking in the other direction, for no obvious reason? Check. Shouting hey! watch it!/you hear that?/must be nothing.../what was that?/I thought I heard something..., unprompted? Check. Walking slowly/freezing/moving without walking/sliding around/stuck in place/floating away into the sky? Check. Crouching around from side to side for a few moments, for no obvious reason? Check. Commencing beef, battle, conflict, and general disarray with you, the protagonist, unprompted? Check, check, check. *hazardous battle music commences*  

These non-playable characters are so often the accidental stars of the show, entertaining us with an all manner of unexpected behaviour, glorious glitches, and unforgettably banal dialogue. They are #NPCs, and we owe them so much.  

And remember—there's a little NPC in all of us x

Naris (She/Her) and Pith (They/Them)

These two are NPCs for a new game i'm running for friends set in the forgotten realms setting but we're not using DnD to play it. They're kind of mechanical aides for me and the players, Naris is physically very strong and Pith has a wealth of knowledge about the religions and beliefs of people in the sword coast so they can be leaned on very easily to assist situations. kind of like campaign training wheels lol.

Writing Prompt Fifteen:

It was odd how such great adventurers/heroes/mercenaries could mess up so spectacularly.

You had accompanied a party of mixed ones years ago. Some days, they were the noblest people you could meet (even if for a price). On others—you swore they lost their minds to some chaotic force. The forever nameless thief patched people up in the blink of an eye using the same swift hands that pickpocketed. Lady Tremaine the Centaur Paladin delivered “holy bucks” to any disrespectful fools. Boomer, the party artificer, had a penchant for explosives though you still buy his bountiful harvest type.

What was truly chaotic about them (and party members who passed on) was that on occasion they would flub something. A thrown weapon from someone tripping managed to take out several foes. One of the clerics once managed to open a portal to the eternal pits. The singular Druid just made an entire army from adopting Dire Wolves. Boomer created inverse-bombs that exploded(?) into a single point!

Of course, no one believed your ridiculous tales.
