here’s to disabled people who can’t speak/struggle to speak. wether it be a physical thing, mental thing, or both, it’s okay. you’re not any less a person for it.

Non-verbal & non-speaking characters in Audio Dramas
A PowerPoint was created after receiving questions as to how we could have characters that don't speak in our show.
For an audio version, check our TikTok.
Suggestions for other ways to give non-speaking characters space in shows are welcome!
This presentation was made by someone who is mostly non-verbal and previously fully non-speaking.

i see posts about people saying you shouldn't say "going nonverbal" or use the term nonverbal if you arent always nonverbal and it makes me feel like yall forgot about variable disabilities
ambulatory wheelchair users exist
chronic pain doesn't always make people immobile every single day (depending on the person)
so why cant being nonverbal also be a spectrum, much like so much of autism is?

Knuckles goes non verbal sometimes.
He usually communicates with body movement or noises like growls, whines, stomps of his foot, nudging, bonking, etc. It doesn’t bother Team Sonic at all. They’re planning to teach him sign language, since both Sonic and Tails themselves go non verbal and communicate this way with one another, but it’s gonna be a big difficult with Knux’s big gloves…
Eh, they’ll figure something out

hi! im cyrus, i am an autistic 18 year old, and i experience selective mutism.
in the recent months, i have been doing research into AAC to make communication easier during college, but I've found that AAC tools are.... really fucking expensive. It angers me that these apps cost hundreds of dollars. So, ive decided to code my own.
I come across a problem with this, though. I dont know how to code. but i remembered an online coding program from elementary school: scratch, which is available to anyone with a computer or phone.
So, if i may ask, can the AAC user side of tumblr help me make this a reality? I plan to make this based on button pressing, so what kind of words should i include? Im relatively new to AAC so any help is appreciated !!!

Can someone please explain the different terms for nonverbal. Like I knew there are two separate terms for being nonverbal and going into a nonverbal state. I think non speaking is one of the terms but I don’t want to use it wrongly. I saw a post a couple of month back explaining all of this but I can’t find it. I don’t want to offend anyone I’m just trying to understand as a fully verbal autistic myself.
