beatrice is a tai chi grandma.

when ava wakes up and bea isn't in her arms, she toddles her way to the kitchen and fills their travel mugs with tea.

sixty years (seven months, and twenty-four days, not that bea's counting) is a long time to be together, excluding the whole arc situation. neither of them regret it one bit.

warm sun shines on her face as she skips down to the park by their flat. she might move slower now, but life's never been better.

there. it's just like the first time she saw her, focused and stoic, going smoothly though tai chi forms. ava knows exactly when bea sees her -- the way her gaze focuses and a hint of a smile.

settling into the chair that magically appeared after the second time ava appeared in the middle of a session, she waves to camila, who's frantically knitting. lilith is there too, wings shining in the sunlight. her hair is grey now, natural and flowing -- none of that dollar store wig-ess stuff from when she first transformed.

birds chirp and soft winds blow. a familiar figure arrives, same old cane in hand.

for a revived paraplegic and former nuns doomed to die young, ava thinks they've done pretty damn well for themselves.

I have a new headcanon that one reason why drowning was Darktail’s preferred method of killing cats was so his white fur wouldn’t get too bloodstained.

The other reason is just because he’s extremely sadistic and likes to torture people but that’s in the text anyway.

Thoughts on sandgorse? Out of all of the cats out there he deserves to get kickdropped into the dark forest. Don’t think Mapleshade would be too happy with how he treated Tallstar 🧐🧐

Jeez! He's a jerk but I don't know if I'd Dark Forest the dude!

On one hand, I think it's really obvious that Heatherstar and the rest of WindClan were looking to slowly kill tunneling as a practice, an ancient tradition, and I really don't fault him for being angry about it y'know?

Especially the part where ALL THREE of the Mist/Hare litter was made into Moor-runners with the "it's what the parents want" excuse, then the next three were also made into Moor-runners including Tallpaw... I would also call out Heatherstar.

Like, it's not just about Tallpaw. Sandgorse is looking at the extinction of a tradition he is extremely proud of.

The death of a tradition. Because it is being killed on purpose through tunnelers intentionally not being given apprentices.

ON THE OTHER HAND, he absolutely starts getting cold and distant from Tallpaw when he isn't becoming what he wants him to be, and pushes him into training waaay too young. I think the narrative does a good job at making sure you know that Sandgorse is absolutely in the wrong for how he treats his son, and the impact it has on Tallpaw.

It's a conflict I really enjoyed because it's pretty real; and Sandgorse isn't an abusive MONSTER like Rainflower or Lizardstripe. Just unsupportive. I really felt Tallpaw's pain when Sandgorse died in that cave-in, because Sandgorse wasn't an evil stereotype.

I think about that line from Bojack Horseman a lot, the one from the funeral. "It's like Becker!" How losing a shitty parent is like a TV show that you're waiting to get better, and then it ends before it ever does, and now it never will. That's how I feel about Sandgorse.

#And to be clear I like that #Yknow? #I like when a parent death in fiction is complicated #I like it more than just having Nice Parents all the time #If there's anything I really didn't like about Tallstar's Revenge it's how it ultimately said it's cool and good for this tradition TO DIE #''Oh it's dangerous'' Being a warrior is dangerous that's the whole point of the lifestyle #Though I may just be super super sensitive about this concept tbh #I really doooo not vibe with how there are several situations where the writers treat people trying to keep important traditions alive-- #--as being unreasonable. But then bend over backwards to justify why really BAD traditions like the Medcat Vow or Xenophobia need to stay #And it's Curious that the cats who are Bad And Wrong about their traditions tend to be foreigners or non-combatants... #So I think it kinda muddies Sandgorse to me #I can recognize that Sandgorse is a neglectful father who wants his son to be something that won't make him happy #But also there are a lot of extra circumstances surrounding the death of tunneling that make me tilt my head #As both writing choices (in the meta sense) and character motivations (in the sense of taking it at face-value) #Sandgorse #Tallstar #Windclan

So yeah, this one got away from me and I spent the entire day thinking about some of those even though I had a pretty clear idea on the answer already, but I always struggle a bit. She’s so not me I always have to stop and ask myself “would she say that or would I say that?” but I think I got it. anyway. please perceive my most special girl.

hair: grey-ish/white with pitch black ends. pretty thick and mostly unkept tbh.

eyes: darker grey, so shiny tho……..

skin: brown, with warm undertone and some darker patches/spots, especially on her face.

tattoos: going for parts here so first, the tattos. back in her forest days she didn’t like the whole “permanent” thing so she usually painted her marks everyday. as soon as she leaves, she decides to get a tattoo on her back, along her spine. white and with the clan/family marks. after shb she adds the azem symbol to it.

scars: multiple. getting my sketchbook to list you the relevant lol. a bunch of tinier ones from wood days and a claw one on her forearm from her chocobo (rael) when she first got him, burnt/lightining scar on her thigh from thanjit/fatebreaker, a bite from a tiny sineater she didn’t have the nerve to kill, a blasphemy one on her hip that mimics perfectly one azem had (not that she knows) and lastly another claw/grab one on her biceps from zenos (ew instance).

parents: she was born back when her village still followed strictly male/female living apart, so she didn’t really meet her father. her mother is alive and well as far as she knows, but she didn’t visit them after leaving the forest so she wouldn’t know better tbh

siblings: her mother was much more of a leader than anything else, so strangely enough, she has just one brother and he’s half-hyur.

grandparents: only ever met her grandmother who died not much long after she was born (which is how the leadership passed to her mother)

in laws and other: blood related there are few around her village. not blood related, well, is it here where I gush abt her and the twins?

pets: technically, just her chocobo.

abilities: dragoon + gunbreaker mainly but really aces in any physical combat (bad with magic tho); has pretty great smitching skills, animal handling and survival instincts too. also, ofc, dominates the echo pretty well by now.

hobbies: exercise/sparing, camping/hiking/gathering (outdoor stuff), tinkering her weapons/armor, collecting stuff from travels (loves art, bad at it. could recite one or another poem but would never admit it willingly) and weirdly enough, journaling.

mount issuance: one of the first things that made her go “ugh. civilization.” when she first got to gridania but she got it lol prefers traveling than using aetherite tho, so it was for the best.

been arrested: never. technically she should’ve for a few things she has done right after she left the wood (stealing rael included, don’t worry about it, he was always hers anyway) but well. what can I tell you, she’s good at getting away with things like that.
