Happy holidays! Here are some wintery Saiouma fluff fics we know you’ll love. Be sure to reblog with your favorites as well!
“Lies on Ice” by Psychiccupid (Rated G) – Kokichi definitely, 100% knows how to ice skate, and that’s absolutely not a lie.
“False Mistletoe” by lovingdefiance (Rated T, but we'd give it a G) – A beautiful character study! Reads just like a Free Time Event, but with a special ending….
“For Warmth” by sai_ouma_trash (Rated G) – The V3 class host a Secret Santa event! What could Shuichi possibly get his crush?
“Bring On Disaster” by SapphiraLua (Rated T) – Shuichi’s never thought too much about mistletoe, until one of Kokichi’s pranks leaves him unable to think about anything else!

✧˚ ·.Official call for Danganronpa group!(18+ only)
•The setting will be in university mixed with the non-despair AU for all of the fandoms who also either don't enjoy KG servers or just want something fluffier and not a death game setting. Every character from the games excluding UDG will be available
•This is a canon and oc group roleplay with cc x cc, oc x cc and oc x oc pairings all accepted like the others. You don't need to apply or do submissions for canons
•I’m looking for 3-7 writers that are 18+ to join, semi lit writing style preferred but literate and novella are welcomed. This is a chill kinda go with the flow thing unless it's a group plan for something big so no one feels like they have to be active or anything
•If interested just reach out to me either with a message or comment and I'll send you the invite link!

It's Dangerous To Go Alone
Description: Himiko follows Maki out of class on Halloween to try to enlist her as a familiar for the evening. Word Count: 2248 Read on AO3
"No." The answer cut through the start of the question, not even providing time for proper delivery. Maki pushed back her chair from her seat and stalked through the desks towards the door. After a dumbfounded moment, her smaller classmate hurried after her in protest. "W-what do you mean no? You don't even know what I was asking!" Himiko called out, just managing to catch up with her in the hallway. Maki walked fast. "What if I was just about to grant your greatest wish with my powerful magic? What a waste!" "Were you?" The quieter girl slowed briefly, raising a brow as she glanced back at her pursuer. The redhead almost fit in for once with the festive decorations stuck up in the corridor, bats and cats and pumpkins surrounding the little witch. "Well, uh, yeah but you’re too late now! Limited time offer, I can only charge that spell once every solar cycle and you missed it. Buuuut I have a counter offer, and you better listen, nyeh!" Himiko replied, backpedaling over her grandiose example. She tugged on the brim of her hat indignantly. "Fine, what do you want?" Maki asked, more curt than intended but not unkind as she opened her locker to pull out her coat and hefted an unwieldy duffel bag onto her shoulder. She stopped then to give the mage her attention, glare scrutinizing. Realizing this was her chance, Himiko cleared her throat. "The Amaaaazing Himiko would like to invite you along to be her familiar for the Halloween para-" "No."
She turned again, hair swishing behind her as she started back on her way. She'd known it would be something like that; it was obvious regardless of the event itself what was on everyone's mind right now. Korekiyo and Kokichi in particular had been taking every opportunity to scare the class, and Angie had near wallpapered the room with scrawlings of horrors, excited for her first year celebrating. Maki wondered if she should have taken the day off, but she didn't want to be lumped in with Kaito's cowardice. She wasn't scared, after all. "Oh come on! How is that hearing me out?!" Himiko cried out, once again on her heels. "I can't go alone, and I'll even lend you a costume!" "Why don't you ask Tsumugi, isn’t that more her sort of thing?" Maki retorted, a bit surprised by the persistence. Usually a glare was all she needed to shut people down. "Or Tenko? "I did ask Tsumugi, but she wanted to do matching costumes, and then wouldn't let me wear it until I watch the show with her. That show is 6 seasons long. That's too tiring and I can't waste all my mana on that. What if I have to battle another mage at the parade?" Himiko complained. "Plus I have a costume already but she wouldn't listen. As for Tenko, well, she's sort of already going... But she was going on about keeping all the girls safe and defending everyone... I don't think she wants to just hang out." The two of them passed through the school, Himiko sporting her cape all day instead of bringing a coat so she had no reason to detour to her locker and lose her target. It was almost an admirable trait if it wasn't keeping Maki delayed. "So why me?" Maki questioned, adjusting her bag and stepping out into the crisp autumn air of the courtyard. She glanced up at the overcast sky. It could rain. The forecast had been unsure that morning, but she was prepared if it did. She kept moving as the wind ruffled her coat, and behind her Himiko drew her cape close around her, one hand poking out to keep her hat in place."Halloween is an important night for mages, okay? We can harness our full potential, but need to be prepared at all times for sneaky magical attacks! I can't bring my familiars with me to the parade, though, 'cause they're still in training. So I was thinking maybe if someone else could be my familiar for the night, then it will double my mana without risking losing to a stray sorceror's charm," Himiko explained carefully. "You don't need to learn any spells for it… I can cast the one that gives you a chance to collect mana, as long as you follow the ritual and don't break the bond." Mana? Ritual? Sometimes the way Himiko spoke was so outlandish that it almost made Maki's life seem normal in contrast. "What sort of bond, like being tied together?" Maki asked, before catching herself, then added, "It doesn't matter, I have plans." "Well the bond is made by linking hands and squeezing t-" Himiko started before she processed the addendum. She huffed. "You're lying, nyeh! You could just say if you don't want to be a familiar, you know. I could take you on as an apprentice, but it's more work. Come on, it's not like you have to stay the whole time. Being out late is too long anyways." She reached out to tug at the strap of the duffel bag to try to slow the taller girl down. Maki's eyes widened and she yanked back at it, trying to free it from the tight little fingers. "I'm not lying, I have plans. Let go." "What plans? Kaito's out sick, and I know Shuichi's busy going to an escape room with Rantaro and Kokichi 'cause I told them no!" Himiko tugged harder, digging in her boot heels to try to stop her. The tug of war was a bit one-sided, Maki dragging her along with ease. "So? I still have plans. Do you want to die?" Maki frowned, trying to shake herself free, and finally pulled hard all at once, swinging her shoulder around. She didn't account for Himiko losing grip right then though, and the bag came clean off her arm and landed with a wet sounding crunch on the ground. It continued to roll on its side and a knife clattered out to the pavement. Himiko stumbled back, landing on her backside with a yelp, then froze. Her eyes were glued to the knife a moment, then drifted back to the bag. Maki went for the bag and grabbed the knife, wiping it quickly on the edge of her coat and checking it for nicks on habit. After looking into the bag, she stowed the utensil inside and shouldered it again with a grumble before looking back and realizing Himiko was still on the ground. Maki walked back over and offered a hand to her, expression still hard. The mage’s eyes followed her through the motions then peered up with a mix of fear and confusion at the hand. Carefully she took it and awkwardly picked herself up, clinging as she did so. When she was on her feet again she brushed the dirt off of herself, then glanced sidelong at Maki. “So uh... w-what’s in the bag? Besides the knife.” The hand still held by Maki was dropped unceremoniously. “It’s none of your business.” There was a touch of anger in her voice then, and she glanced back at the bag, opening it a little to look inside again as she stalked off. This time there wasn’t a protest, and she glanced back to see Himiko following quietly this time. She wouldn’t have even known it with how quiet she was. “I’m busy.” “...Is it something for your plans? If.. if it’s something I can help with, maybe I can come with you instead. The parade is gonna be boring alone. Boring and dangerous. Sticking together could be nice on a spooky night like tonight! With my magic and your, uh,” Himiko stumbled, trying to think up something, “your icy cool presence, no one will give us trouble.” “No one gives me trouble anyways,” Maki countered, levelling a glare over her shoulder. “Then why do you have a knife?” Himiko whispered, the face under the brim of her hat full of concern. She tugged at the collar of her cape, frown deepening. “If you come to the parade with me then maybe Tenko can do that defending thing for the both of us and-” Her sentence was cut short as Maki stopped and the mage walked right into her. Confusion won out over the concern on her face as she peered upwards, only to see a matched expression above her. The glare had been replaced with a raised eyebrow. “Why would I need defending?” she asked, “I can handle defending myself if I need to.” “...” Himiko frowned, looking from the bag to Maki’s face. Hoping she wasn’t about to ask more questions, Maki waited in silence. For what? Maybe a dismissal or an argument. Or perhaps the announcement she was too tired for this and finally being released from her tail. But instead Himiko hunched her shoulders and turned to the side when she spoke. “You probably can, but it’d be scary right? Even with a weapon, there’s a lot of dangerous stuff out there when you’re on your own.” A beat passed in silence. Finally it clicked. “The knife isn’t for-” she started, but saw the pout creep back onto the other girl’s face. Maki sighed. Since when was Himiko this stubborn? Tenko must be rubbing off on her even if she didn’t care to admit it. At this rate she’d follow her anyways and be the one scared. Would it be okay for her to come along? She may not understand. “Fine. You can come with me if it bothers you that much that I’m going somewhere alone. But not to the parade.” Himiko adjusted her hat and tapped her lip thoughtfully a moment, brows together in furrowed concentration. After deliberating silently she bobbed her head. “Alright! And we can do the ritual too while we go!” She reached out to take Maki’s hand and squeezed it tightly to the other’s surprise. Their hands remained linked for the rest of the trip. It was a long trip, too. Two buses, and a bit of a walk, all in the opposite direction everyone was headed to the parade. The costumes thinned out, and the streets were darker as they left the downtown area. When they got off on the bus stop and started into an emptier neighbourhood the little mage held her hat tight to her head as it swivelled with every look down each dark alleyway, ever vigilant. Maki wasn’t exactly sure what Himiko planned to do if she did spot anything, but found out soon enough when a branch snapped under her foot and the smaller girl JUMPED in front of her in a panic, arms up. “G-g-g-get back!” she shouted at the darkness of the lawn they were next to, blinking around for who made the noise. Maki glanced down at her foot and the incriminating branch and crushed it a little harder to let her escort know it wasn’t some unseen demon. Himiko glanced back and scratched at the back of her head. “Oh. Well… I scared off anyone who was thinking about jumping out anyway.” “Thanks then,” Maki said with a shrug, reaching to take Himiko’s hand herself as she continued on. They weren’t far now. Beside her, Himiko straightened up and beamed, almost having a skip in her step. All because of a thank you? Finally they reached the gate, and Maki reached around the bars to unlatch it. Her companion watched curiously, then looked past it to the building. The sign was easier to miss now as the sun was setting, but the lights inside were on and bright in lots of windows. And in them people moved about, peered outside, and chased each other. When they finally reached the door and stepped in, it was clear as day where they were. “This is the orphanage you grew up in, right?” Himiko hazarded a guess as Maki stepped out of her shoes near the door. “So your plans are here… you coulda just said!” “Would that have changed anything?” “Well… no it’s still dangerous to go all that way alone, but you were being all spooky about it! And carrying a weapon,” Himiko huffed, crossing her arms. Oh right, the knife. Maki set the bag down and slowly unzipped it, getting Himiko’s attention again. She finally looked inside. There was the knife as well as a spoon and bowl, tea light candles and 4 small pumpkins. No wonder it was lumpy! One of the pumpkins looked cracked though. Himiko’s expression shifted. Did she do that when she pulled on it and they fell? “So you’re making Jack-O-Lanterns?” “Yeah. The kids always wanted to, but they’re not allowed to use the knives from the kitchen themselves.” “...Wow Maki, you’re such a handy familiar, coming prepared with all sorts of things, nyeh. I sure picked well for tonight.” “What?” Maki asked, blinking and looking up from the bag. Himiko was taking her hat off and pulling a garland with paper pumpkins out of it all of a sudden. “What are you doing?” “Getting ready for the Special Halloween Magic Show, of course! Lead the way!” She hopped up in the air and pointed. Maki couldn’t help but smile. She led the way. There was more than enough magic for the night as they made faces for each pumpkin. Maybe she would have time for the parade after all of this, thanks to the help.

Unpopular Opinion: I don't think that Kaito would be aggressively against Kokichi and Shuichi getting together, especially in a non-despair setting. (This is really long so I wouldn't blame u if you skipped to the end.
A lot of fics and drabbles I have read have had either Maki or Kaito in an antagonistic light, i.e. the one trying to get them to break up. Maki admittedly makes more sense in this role than Kaito does, but neither really fit the role.
Kaito isn't really the type of person to meddle with Shuichi's personal life. He (in his mind,at least) is there to provide Shuichi with support and help him defeat his enemy. Kaito isn't going to ruin a positive relationship that Shuichi has that could encourage growth due to personal bias. Maki is the same way, although she would probably be a lot more on the fence about it, given her and Kokichi's canon dynamic. Their hatred of Kokichi makes even less in a non despair au as well, where, chances are that, Kokichi is not nearly as antagonistic as he is in V3.
I would imagine the dynamic between Kaito, Kokichi and Maki would be a lot more.. sibling like, in a way. Kokichi would annoy them prior to the relationship forming, but after, their stances would change. Kaito would probably approach Kokichi on his own time, and express the fact that Kaito wants what best for Shuichi, and thus wants to get to know Kokichi better, or at the very least, reach a truce. Kaito knows that having Kokichi and himself in Shuichi's life would be the best, and would probably try to frame the conversation as a 'Congratulations! You are my Sidekick now!' Speech. Obviously Kokichi would realize this speech isn't Kaito's actual intent, since both of them know that Kokichi doesn't need to be Kaito's sidekick the way Maki and Shuichi needed to be when Kaito met them. Kokichi then proclaims that Kaito is now one of his henchmen, and that he has to talk to him about Shuichi all of the time. Kaito would chuckle but agree. The two would then suddenly have a 'gullible older brother and sneaky little brother' dynamic, much to Shuichi's confusion.
Maki, on the other hand, would be the stereotypical 'You hurt him, I kill you' older sibling, with the speech and all. She also occasionally appears in the corner Kokichi's eye at random points in the night. It freaks Kokichi out, but he lies about it when asked. ( The two would eventually warm up to each other down the line, and probably talk about their issues. It was also probably spurred on by Kaito.)
TLDR: Kaito and Maki would probably be the 'bad cop, good cop' older sibling routine if Saiouma got together.

Brothers in arms you won't have to fight your battles alone anymore
---
Happy (belated) Pride! There's nothing quite like the feeling when you realise you've got an ally in someone, especially when you've spent so long walking on eggshells. Being able to share, listen and learn from one another, even though your experiences won't be identical, might not even be similar; But knowing that there's someone who on some level understands? It's a tonic for the soul.
so in that vein, here's a little prequel to last year's pride comic, and the infamous sauna scene no less! Out of everything that happens, Mondo being entirely extra and declaring he'll do the challenge with all his clothes is such a BONKERS moment, but it certainly makes for a good headcanon opportunity, and I wanted to show Trans!Mondo a little love for pride.

There's also no doubt in my mind that Taka absolutely lost that endurance battle

Veronika, please. Do you want a hug? Anything to help you out? I don't want you hurting yourself.
"I don't need anything. Also, do you know why Arturo is ignoring me?* I thought he liked me, have I done something wrong?"

*ooc - After multiple people asking him to check on Veronika, Arturo believes everyone's playing a prank on him, and he's decided he's going to ignore Veronika as "nothing bad could happen a second time" (after the same thing happened to a certain family member). “That particular clown came with the circus every year, Shuichi had noticed. Sometimes he was working one of the carnival game booths, swindling jerks out of money and discreetly knocking over extra pins or something to help little kids win the especially good stuffed animals. Other times he was a part of the show, drinking sparkly purple fire like soda and letting other clowns drop probably-fake pianos on him so he could somersault out of the way just in time. One year he even played the ringmaster, in a spangly checkerboard suit and tails. That was the year Shuichi had first learned his name – Kokichi Oma, apparently – and also the year this same Ringmaster Oma claimed he’d been running the show the whole dang time. Behind the scenes, you know. A secret ringmaster, who may have been the only person in the whole world who could say whether D.I.C.E. stood for anything at all.”
~ thatsrightdollface, “Apple Cider and the Circus”
It’s impossible to pick a favorite fic from @thatsrightdollface ’s library, so I went with the most autumn-y one I could find. “Apple Cider and the Circus” is an absolutely adorable non-despair AU where Shuichi and Kokichi play a game of hide and seek that spans several years. The circus is in town again, so where’s Kokichi hiding this time?
Thatsrightdollface is one of the oldest contributors to the fandom, and has one of the most unique writing styles I’ve ever seen. They put so much of the POV character’s personality into the prose that it draws you in immediately, and even the most minor description is so charming that you’ll want the story to go on forever. Be sure to give them some love today!
Rated T (We’d give it a G) 2,712 words, one-shot Published 26 February 2020

friendly reminder that it's implied that ouma doesn't lie to himself in normal situations. it's the killing game that compelled him into doing it.
not fully sure if these are the exact words but:
"I had to think this game was fun to survive… I had to lie to myself!"
↑ this implies that he has a problem of lying to himself, right? not exactly. it's implying that lying to himself is something he wouldn't normally do. like he's saying that "the kg was so atrocious that i had to do this." so contrary to what some people in the fandom think, he actually isn't a hypocrite about the whole "lying to yourself is bad" thing. he (rightfully) believes it's bad, and so he doesn't do it… in normal, non-traumatic situations. in situations as hellish as the kg (or the Angsty Backstory™ i'm cooking up for him), that's when he lies to himself and is a hypocrite about it.
(in other words, that line of dialogue states that the killing game caused him to lie to himself. it implies that it's something he usually wouldn't do. which also implies that he wouldn't lie to himself and he wouldn't be a hypocrite about it in non-despair settings. he's only like that in the kg.)
anyway stop being so mean to him guys!!! he already has enough problems, even without the kg. no need to add more in non-despair fics! (…no actually please do, but at least make it a bit more accurate/make it make sense!)
