Arial
I’ve been feeling a weird kinship with Arial from “The Little Mermaid” lately. Never cared much for her growing up for three (shallow) main reasons:
1. She was dressed in a more revealing outfit
2. She was bubbly/outgoing and I didn’t relate to that
3. She had an unnatural hair color
But even once I overcame my (inherent? taught?) dislike for female characters in scant clothing, I was never a big princess person. They felt too optimistic to be aspirational. I liked Aurora the most, because she seemed more dreamy and reserved (visually the Gothic style of the film is still one of my favorites.) And Belle was alright, but felt too “not like other girls” to me. Perhaps other girls in my school being obsessed with the holy nerdette trinity—Belle, Hermione, and Annabeth Chase—also contributed.
But Arial has resonated with me lately. I think it’s because the problems she’s facing feel “real” and personal. Arial’s father destroys her things in a rage when facing the prospect of her falling in love with a human. What teenager wouldn’t be tempted by a highly successful manipulator in that situation?
And then I think about that line, “Daddy, I love him!” Pretty simple, but summarizes where a lot of the conflict in my life comes from at the moment. How can you want to stay with someone and remain an independent person living for your own goals? The nature of compromise makes it impossible. And then it’s you against a world still captured by bias, fear, and disgust. Blending in, and emotional awareness, have always been some of my better skills—I feel unequipped to be in a relationship which compromises any of my adaptability in polite society.

Jeff Bliss’s Core Type
Apparently some kid went off on his high school teacher 10 years ago or something. I don’t condone the behavior (authority figures are very reluctant to change their ways in public, even if it’s the right thing to do, because it opens themselves up to more public attack.)
Anyway, I think he’s likely to be an assertive type, likely 7 with a 1 fix over 3 or 8.
The few times I (two superego fixes) have had confrontations in this vein involved more back-and-forth, which I think is the tendency of reactive types. This person wanted to declare their vision for how education should work, and wasn't basing the rant around specific things to change. 1 by itself seems more chiseled to me.

Conversations with instinctual stackings as an so/sp
I’m constantly setting “boundaries” around every aspect of my life—chores remain separate from social life remains separate from my love life remains separate from academics, etc. As a result, I worry often about running out of things to say during hangouts (what do I have left in the social realm to talk about? Nothing! But I can’t talk about that other non-social stuff, it’ll be boring/inappropriate.)
With sp/so’s, I’m used to them using our time together to do something important to them. “Want to come with me to the library?/I’m going to go do laundry now/Give me a minute to take care of this, then we can talk some more.” Sp/sx people do this too.
With social-blinds, it often feels more like anything and everything can get sucked into the conversation. They don’t compartmentalize so much.
So/sx feels like a “lighter” version of that. They’re still concerned with whether or not things are comfortable/appropriate, but are looking to “push” a bit more into the discomforting parts of life in conversation. Whether it’s through flirting or weird jokes or something else, they seem to have an easier time getting controversial/fun than I do. (I don’t know any sx/so people, so I can’t describe my experiences with them.)
My takeaway from all of this is: I don’t think I need to worry as much as I do about keeping conversations in the social realm. A lot of people are willing to (and in fact, enjoy) when conversations expand to include other aspects of life. So I think I can let myself do that more freely, and it might make it easier to come up with things to talk about.

I, non-sequitura, person with lungs
I feel odd looking at peoples social media profiles and seeing how many of them have niche political or cultural groups they’re part of (e.g. transhumanist, anarcho-communist, polyamorous.) I’m like, even if I wanted to broadcast the most controversial parts of me, I’m not sure what I’d put? Am I just the most agreeable person on the planet (or do I have a brain which makes me focus on agreeing with everyone else?)
I guess I could post about my niche interests in enneagram/MBTI but then I’d just end up turning my feeds into r/MBTI, and I don’t want that. Or say I’m “somewhat left of center,” but that indicates nothing to anyone except trolls. Bisexual Christian? There’s plenty of those.

Sequitura’s guide to Kpop if for some reason you want to get into it
(Not recommended, the fandom culture is insane, though there are some nice songs)
These are songs that I really liked on the first listen and continue to like. Some songs take a while to grow on me, like “TT” by Twice. Those aren’t on this list.
They're not my top 100 - those would be too particular to my tastes and I tried to cover a range of musical styles.
* means that the song is a b-side (not the primary promoted song in an album) and thus probably doesn’t have a music video.
Oh My Girl (cheerful group with KILLER catchy melodies)  -Windy Day -Dolphin -Coloring Book -Closer -(optional listening) Secret Garden if you really liked Closer -(optional listening) Nonstop if you like catchy dance tunes, but after some of their really good stuff it'll pale in comparison. It's good gateway Oh My Girl, though.
Blackpink (they do a lot of hype songs; cool vocal colors; actually not bad rapping for kpop) -As If It's Your Last -Playing With Fire -Lovesick Girls
f(x) (experimental girl pop) -Rum Pum Pum -Nu Abo
KARA (exhilarating dance tunes) -Step
Brown-Eyed Girls (they've covered pretty much every genre at this point, but boundary-pushing is their main theme) -Kill Bill -(optional listening) Abracadabra (not personally my thing, but the EDM bassline was super fresh at the time and still is) -(optional listening) Warm Hole (really catchy 60s-esque bop)
Taeyeon (former main singer in Girl’s Generation) -4 Seasons -(optional listening) Spark (not the greatest song in the world, but the lead-in to the chorus is great.)
T-ara (ridiculously cheesy dance tunes) -Roly Poly -Sugar Free -(optional listening) Lovey Dovey (if you loved Roly Poly)
Mamamoo (originally jazz, now... something else) -Piano Man -Um Oh Ah Yeah -(optional listening) Woo Hoo (the harmonies will blow your mind) -(optional listening) Decalcomanie (GREAT for early 2000s rock Amy Winehouse-esque fans. I'm only mildly a fan of that style, but even I can admit the vocal pyrotechnics are incredible.) -(optional listening) Pride of 1cm (a rap diss track about each other’s heights) -(optional listening) Girl Crush (HEY YOUUUU)
Spica (sadly short-lived group that was *really* musical; did jazz authentically and well) -You Don’t Love Me
IU (soloist whose style has run the gamut, but she mostly writes her own music, now.) -Eight -The Red Shoes -Blueming -23
AOA (originally a band concept who came back with uh... sexy, which isn’t a genre, but they still have good songs) -Heart Attack -(optional listening) Like a Cat -(optional listening) Elvis
Wonder Girls (retro who came back with a band concept) -Why So Lonely
Sunmi (her stuff can take a while to get under your skin. It’s quite dark under the surface, which I like.) -Heroine -Pporippipam -(optional listening) 24 Hours -(optional viewing) Noir, for the music video mainly
Yubin (former rapper for Wonder Girls) -Lady -Thank U Soooo Much
Girl’s Generation AKA SNSD (one of the original icons. You won’t find a more polished group anywhere.) -Paparazzi -(optional listening) Lion Heart (for those who love the 60s sound)
BoA (original soloist icon. Watch her dance and sing live.) -Mannish Chocolat -(optional listening) Woman
Itzy (currently conquering the “teen rebels” genre) -Wannabe -Don’t Give a What -(optional listening) Icy (it’s divisive, but personally I find the attitude super charming and the instrumental fresh and unique rather than irritating.)
Red Velvet (have some great RnB songs, as well as some lovely summer ones, as well as some “lol wut” ones) -Psycho -You Better Know* -Body Talk* -(optional listening) Russian Roulette (slightly off-kilter pop song and catchy af) -(optional listening) Look* (AMAZING 80s throwback) -(optional listening) Swimming Pool* (one of those super cheesy pop songs that becomes transdescent in the chorus) -(optional listening) Sassy Me* (this song is crazy) -(optional listening) Mr. E* (if you loved You Better Know) -(optional listening) Sunny Side Up* (if you loved Body Talk and Psycho)
2NE1 (one of the first “badass”-themed girl groups.) -I Am the Best -Fire -(optional listening) I Don’t Care (tackling slow/emotional)
Hyuna (a great performer who sells any song she’s in) -Trouble Maker -365 Fresh -Bubble Pop
CLC (they’ve unfortunately probably broken up now. Super talented group who’s bounced from genre to genre trying to get something to stick, leaving bops along the way.) -Pepe -Show* -No
Weki Meki (they’re slowly finding their niche, which is likely to be smooth club stuff) -Crush -(optional listening) Cool (I recommend watching their relay dance/dance practices and giving Lua some attention)
BOL4 (“indie”-ish band; not a big fan of most of their stuff) -Travel (but they did strike addictive gold when they went more rock)
Gfriend (Strings, guitar, and some of the best/most consistent vocalists in kpop right now) -Navillera -Mago
Dreamcatcher (a very unique, metal-influenced sound. Amazing dancing. Probably supported by the most humane company in kpop right now.) -Scream -Over the Sky* -Black or White* -(optional listening) And There Was No One Left* (idk why but this one hits me. It’s so sparse and yet makes you feel so disconcerted.) -(optional listening) Silent Night* (if you like the musical aesthetics of the song “Everytime We Touch”) -(optional listening) Can’t Get You Out of My Mind* (if you liked Silent Night)
Twice (“The Nation’s Girl Group”) -Fancy (kind of the only song of theirs that I adore; ask me for more recs if you really like them.)
Ailee (known as the Beyonce of Korea) -I Will Show You (an unironic “yasss” song) -Heaven (gee, this song is sad but never lets up with the power vocals as well, which I think works better than a straight-up slow ballad)
Loona (I don’t really click with them, but a few songs have hit me first listen) -Voice* (it sounds like a beautiful, brisk skate across a mile-long lake) -New (by Yves – it’s super flowy) -ViViD (by Heejin – I love sassy swing tunes what can I say) -(optional listening) Heart Attack primarily for the music video
EXID (power vocals + brass + hip-hop? I don’t really get it tbh but good singing can sell me anything.) -Ah Yeah
After School (I don’t know this group but this song is a bop. Might be one of my top 20 favorites of all time and I only heard it yesterday.) -Bang!
Sunny Hill (very unique social commentary music) -Pray (warning: one of the most disturbing music videos I’ve ever seen, but definitely worth a watch if you have a strong stomach) -The Grasshopper Song (music video is nicer)
(now we move into territory with guys in it. I personally think male artists in Korea release fewer great songs than female artists, beccause the general trend is to be “dark” or “moody” compared to the more melodic trends in female groups. If you like strong choreography or braggadocio vibes, though, you’ll probably like them better.)
AKMU (singer-songwriter sibling pair and probably my favorite composers in Korea right now.) -Dinosaur -How People Move -(optional listening) Happening (somehow gives coffee shop music a driving rhythm) -(optional listening) Like Ga Na Da (this is a song about the alphabet. It is still insanely catchy.) -(optional listening) Melted (sad ballad)
TXT (this group has other songs, but I don’t like any of them nearly as much.) -Runaway (like the classic boy group sound set on fire. A really nice pre-chorus of all things. Love the guitar.)
Ateez (they might become the next BTS; not sure.) -Wonderland (like... pirate hip hop/rock. Watch with choreography.) -Wave (a surprisingly potent summer song) -(optional listening) Say My Name
Shinee (some of the most talented dudes in kpop) -Lucifer (probably the only kpop song to pull off a one-note chorus well. Sounds like it was produced by people who evolved in a different universe.) -View (super smooth, groovy deep house song.)
Oneus (their good stuff goes hard) -A Song Written Easily -Valkyrie
Stray Kids (don’t know the group; song is great) -Miroh
A.C.E. (one of the only kpop groups doing hardstyle and surprisingly enough, I like it.) -Goblin -Cactus
Seventeen (don’t really know the group; song is great) -Mansae

My headcanons for each of the "Helltaker" characters’ sexualities
(spoilers for Helltaker below)
(you can get the game here. it's free!)
I default to the demons being at least attracted to men unless there’s another strong reason they might have joined the harem. The Helltaker - Straight Explanation: He’s looking for a harem of demon girls. That’s the straightest thing you could do. Pandemonica - Bi Explanation: She clearly gets a kick out of torturing the Helltaker as a sadistic demon, but as seen in the comics, her sadistic side can also be applied to other demons in the harem, like Malina. Modeus - Straight Explanation: This is weird considering she’s a demon of lust and thus could fall under the “anything that moves” trope, but I’ve always imagined Modeus is straight for some reason. She never expresses interest in women. Maybe it’s the succubus vibes - succubi live off of the life energy of men in particular. Cerberus - Straight but can get up to weird crap with each other Explanation: I don’t really like thinking about the Cerberi having a sexuality bc they have what I call “young” personalities, but their thing for corrupting people leads me to think they’re not ace. I’m guessing it’d be hard to be a Cerberus if you were totally grossed out by female sexuality, bc you’re constantly seeing/experiencing the life of your two doppelgängers.
(My hatred of the idealization of adult women acting young/cute can wait for another post. Or perhaps wait forever. I think I'm in the minority there.)
Malina - Straight Explanation: the Helltaker seems to be the only one in the game who she doesn’t find annoying 100% of the time. We don’t see a ton of her interactions with women, though, so I think it's still open for discussion.
Zdrada - I’m gonna say homoflexible. Explanation: Zdrada gets more flustered over what Pandemonica says to her in the comics than anything Helltaker says. Also, as the “bitch demon”, I’d expect her to be more tsundere about joining the harem if she was actually interested in you. I know Malina is depicted as more tsundere in-game but I think they both have that side to them. Azazel - Bi (or maybe gay...?) Explanation: This might seem strange, because Azazel is kinda the definition of gay panic around the female demons, while with the Helltaker, she’s self-assured and chipper. The only thing that throws a wrench in that theory is her line in the epilogue about would you like to join her in her studies, which I’m not sure a gay person would say. Also, Azazel doesn’t seem constantly flustered by the women in heaven, which makes me think her being flustered is less about guys vs. girls and more about she hasn’t really encountered that many sexy people in general. So I think of her as bi, currently discovering how attractive women are to her, and although she's not particularly interested in the Helltaker, not disinterested in men as a category. Justice - Bi but uninterested in sex most of the time. Explanation: I think Justice is much more interested in being awesome and doing her job than in getting down with anyone. But I don’t see her discriminating against anyone who she finds epic enough. I also have a theory that she becomes much more interested in anyone who can beat her in single combat (not as a masochism thing - just that she finds great fighters awesome).
Lucifer - Straight, but easily flustered by women Explanation: She kinda fits the domestic waifu stereotype the strongest at the end of the game. Seems pretty devoted to the Helltaker and not particularly interested in the other demons. I imagine she doesn’t discriminate when it comes to the genders of people serving her for all eternity, but physically, she likes dudes. As for the “easily flustered by women” part, that comes with her sheer joy when eating pancakes, embarrassment when people don’t listen to her, etc. I think she’s a very expressive person and being easily flustered is part of that package. Judgement - straight ig? Explanation: No reason to think she’s interested in women. She gets kinda shy from when the Helltaker compliments her?

Recommended: BIRDLAND by Brendan Patrick Hennessy
It’s a piece of interactive fiction, which is basically one part book, one part video game, resulting in something a lot like one of those Choose-your-own-adventure books, but on your computer (or phone if that floats your boat, I suppose.)
You can play it here! >>> https://bphennessy.itch.io/birdland <<<
My review: It’s charming slice-of-life with hilarious wit bordering on social commentary. I think about it frequently and replay it every few years or so. It only takes about 45-60 minutes of your time, but the incredible characters and unique story will lodge themselves in your head for much longer. One of my favorite games of all time, not just interactive fiction.
It’s also on Emily Short’s top 20 pieces of interactive fiction of all time (you can find that here), and she’s super well-respected in the IF community. Basically every game she releases is considered to revolutionize the field in some way. So that’s pretty cool!
And below are some of my favorite (spoiler-free, as much as they can be) screenshots of the HILARIOUS dialogue. You may notice the red and green backgrounds have relatively different styles. Why’s that? Hmm...

Non-sequitura Disney in-depth analysis (after making a tier list)
Warning: SUPER longform. If you don’t know a movie well, you should skip the summary. I tried to be light on spoilers, but they’re there.
I went chronologically from favorite to least favorite. So S tier is, in order from fave to least fave, The Incredibles, WALL-E, then Zootopia.
S tier (Something I consider high quality AND a movie I greatly enjoy. I would love more Disney movies be like this.)
The Incredibles - one of my favorite movies of all time, possibly THE favorite. Rockin social commentary, epic action scenes, memorable characters, not a minute of screentime wasted, great take on the Fantastic Four, hilarious parts for both adults and children, an interesting villain, etc.
WALL-E - I love how social commentary was done here. Also skies above, what a beautiful love story. Really blazed a trail in non-verbal storytelling (especially given it was an animated kids film!) Robot animations are particularly delightful.
Zootopia - another social message delivered excellently and entertainingly. I love Judy and her persistence, I love the expressiveness of the faces and the epic city setting. I love Judy and Nick's banter. This movie deserves to be remembered longer than it has been so far. Admittedly, not one of my fave villains, which makes it my least favorite of the Ss.
A tier (either super high quality or something I greatly enjoy and deem of at least reasonably good quality)
Mulan - this movie did everything right. Truly feminist protagonist, an icon for strong Asian women, fairly culturally accurate (tho Mushu confuses me), GORGEOUS and iconic music. Lets a relatively natural romance develop. I frickin love the action scenes, I love the emporer. Sadly, this movie just didn't lodge its way in my heart as well as Pixar did. Pixar just has some magic, yo.
Cinderella - my gosh what an underrated protagonist. Her family straight-up abuses her and she never loses sight of her goals for a better life. Iconic visuals helped bring Disney out of bankruptcy. A gorgeous alto singing voice.
Wreck-it Ralph - alright alright ppl don’t crucify me for this. I honestly can’t think of much wrong with this movie. Vanellope and Ralph’s vitriolic best buds relationship is adorable, her forgiveness of him is heartwarming and (relatively) deserved, rockin’ Owl City song, epic visuals that mix together bc of all the different games. ALSO ONE OF THE BEST DISNEY VILLAINS NO CAP. One of the only twist villains I like. And we stan the romantic pairing.
Tangled - I’ve talked about this a lot, but Rapunzel deserved the whole world after what she’s gone through. That being said, Gothel is not some shallow monster she needs to escape from, but an intelligent, well-defined monster with backstory. I could totally see this story happening if the world of Tangled existed. Epic love story, hilarious dialogue. Music is… good but much of it is less memorable to me. Visuals are good but not quite at the level/creativity of many other disney films.
The Lion King - they really put Hamlet in Africa and pulled it off lol. But in all seriousness, no one took the premise of this film seriously at the time and it became sooo iconic. I love Scar and his eventual downfall, I love how Simba grows emotionally, I love the sad moments that don’t overpower the overall feeling of light goofiness. And music so memorable it was one of the first Disney musicals.
Coco - not a super unique story premise. But an incredible culture to explore with such creativity and sensitivity. I love the themes of death not being the worst and music being so central to the story. Twist/twist villain was memorable and not expected. And yeah, it did make me cry, so props there.
Ratatouille - the most recently watched of these films for me. This movie is soooo unique! Back when Pixar was truly super out there with their concepts. Super Parisian visuals and soundtrack. It somehow starts goofy (THE OLD LADY TRIES TO KILL REMY WITH A SHOTGUN WHILE WEARING A GAS MASK) but really drives home the message that you can truly do what you want regardless of who you are. Colette can get it. And the monologue by Ego at the end is one of my favorites in film.
Frozen - Anna is one of my favorite Disney protagonists. She’s so resilient and loyal. Elsa ain’t bad either but she experiences… less character development. The film is a tad too pleased with its own self-awareness for my taste, but there’s no denying how iconic the music and visuals were.
Inside Out - Alright, this movie hits home for me bc I tried to run away after moving. A super thoughtful, heartfelt depiction of (potentially depression? imo) with great moments of humor. Riley’s inner world is so creative and lovely. Also realistic depictions of Minnesota/California culture.
Tarzan - Jane! is! smart! and! adorable! Her scientific curiosity makes her very endearing. it’s so cute to see her and Tarzan learn from each other. Also Tarzan’s “found mother” is epic. Solid score. Solid film all around. To quote Lily Orchard, “This film is what Pocahontas tried to be.”
B tier (one of my favorites but has a few significant flaws that bring it down (or not quite as memorable to me, but consider good quality))
Peter Pan - Haven’t seen it in a hot sec, but I remember being super charmed by this as a kid. Just going out, having incredible adventures, and returning to a warm home at the end of the day. Tinker Bell is hilarious and beautifully drawn. Gets major negative points for the depiction of Native Americans tho.
Big Hero 6 - I was super charmed by the protagonist, his family/friends, and the setting. The plot/villain’s motivations are a bit of a mess, though.
Princess and the Frog - This movie has so much flavor to it! The visuals/music are lovely and unique. Tiana is incredible but it’s kinda annoying how EVERYONE keeps trying to shoehorn her into romance. The thing is, her goals are entirely reasonable. Focus on her restaurant, then look to settle down. But they’re like “nooo you’re ignoring the important things in life” smh. Also, epic villain, woohoo! The movie dragged significantly for me when they were in the bayou. Charlotte is delightful.
Winnie the Pooh - don’t remember it super well, but I think it was charming and occasionally dark, which is an addictive concoction.
The Little Mermaid - MAN ppl roast Ariel way more than she deserves. Visually, it was… fine. idk. This movie is good. I don’t have much else to say about it.
Snow White - the one that started it all. Visually, super impressive. Musically, lovely. I find the romance a bit… off. Well, more than a bit. What is it with Disney and kissing sleeping people?
Alice in Wonderland - a nerdy acid trip. Right up my alley! I also like films where ppl go on incredible adventures and return to the status quo, but THEY changed bc of it. Epic. SUUUUPER creative visual interpretation of Carroll’s book. Brave - gosh I loooove films where a parent and child learn to understand each other. Never got why ppl hated this movie so much. The Scottish flavor is present and fun. Merida made one mistake and made it up. The arrow scene is iconic.
Cars - a fun ride! (hahaha puns.) We love seeing Paul Newman as a car.
B-minus tier? (same as B, but problematic, or weaker story-wise.)
Hunchback - man… settings-wise, this film might be my favorite. I also love Esmeralda and Quasimodo as characters and as a duo (though the sexualized depiction of Romani ppl is not epic.) I also don’t find the discrimination against Esmeralda/Quasimodo jarring bc it matches the time period. Frollo is super interesting as a villain. The gargoyles are… def not necessary. Basically, this film doesn’t know what it’s doing with tone.
Sleeping Beauty - Aurora was my favorite when I was younger because I thought she was the prettiest, and that still defines how i feel about this, basically. Visually lovely - everything is kind of elongated and gothic. Maleficent is spiteful and epic. I have no issue with the fluffier parts of the movie, like the music or the fairies. RIP for lack of consent being a plot point, though.
Hercules - Megara is incredible. one of the only Disney “princesses” who acts like an adult and has cynicism as a major part of her personality. I love her and Herc’s progression where she learns to trust him (yes, he is genuinely that sincere, it’s not a front.) Muses are unique, whoever came up with them was high on something and I’m living for it. I just think the plot itself was somewhat unrealistic/ weirdly-paced. There are some memorable songs, some less-than-memorable songs. Art style is cool but I’m personally not a fan. EXTREMELY inaccurate depictions of the original Greek gods.
C tier (entertaining, but I don't consider it a great movie)
Bolt - I watched this like 11 years ago. It was fun! A cool concept about those put on a pedestal learning their worth even without celebrity boosting them up. Animation was… fine I think. not super memorable to me.
Frozen 2 - They really took any scrap of character development Elsa had in the first movie, threw it in the garbage and set it on fire. Anna deserved so much better. Songs are bombastic and impressive, have the occasional interesting lyric, but are really weirdly placed and none are quite as iconic as the first movie’s (except Aurora, she does great work here. Also the song Anna sings after she thinks Elsa died.)
Not a big fan of the vaguely homeopathic theme. Not a big fan of Olaf’s WEIRD character development. Not a big fan of the suuuuuper awkward dialogue and the animations that imply not only that Kristoff is into his reindeer but that Elsa and Anna are into each other (if you’re questioning if they did that, yes, they did, I can find screenshots of some really weird expressions/moments. THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO PANDER TO YOUR WEIRD FANS, DISNEY.)
The voice actors did great work, the animators did great work (look at the details on their clothes! Look at how Elsa’s posture changes to be more confident! look at how they're animated while they're singing!) Some weird costume/makeup choices that make Elsa look like an aging starlet, but she also has some gorgeous moments so eh. It’s a wash for me.
They really did not know what to do with Kristoff this movie, huh. The only thing that happened to him was singing a cheesy 90s ballad and marrying Anna, both of which were admittedly epic. Also, the trolls got 0 appearances despite being literally psychic. Probably could have helped with a lot. I'm not a huge fan of lore/worldbuilding, and thee was a lot of it here. Overall neutral on it.
Also a big theme in this movie I don’t love - **** TANGIBLE CONSEQUENCES TO OUR ACTIONS!!! The danger is Elsa’s death, the elements, colonialism, and Arendelle literally being destroyed. None of those end up playing out, so I was left at the end going “this film had literally no stakes.”
Monsters U - same as above - entertaining at the time! Not super memorable. The ppl we were supposed to dislike kept switching. Doesn’t really match the canon of Monsters Inc (I thought they were supposed to have known each other since childhood so why did they meet in college?)
Cars 3 - so apparently, everyone HATED this movie! Fun! I never watched Cars 2 (yes watched Cars 1 if you haven’t been paying attention to this list), but I didn’t think this movie was bad at all. Well-acted, some fun chase scenes, the scene where Lightning fails at driving in the simulation is genuinely hilarious, and some interesting perspectives on teachers getting the spotlight for their skills for once.
Incredibles 2 - I liked this film at first, but then it was… just okay in retrospect. I love me some good family dynamics. The plot here makes not a lot of sense. THEY BUILT UP THE UNDERMINER FOR NOTHING AND THEN FORGOT ABOUT HIM. I was surprised by the villain swap, but it happened so last minute I never really understood their motivations even after they explained them. Tried to tackle waaaay too many messages.
D tier (I didn't enjoy these or consider them mediocre)
Finding Dory - Maybe I should have put this higher? Like C tier at least. Ah well. Wasn’t a huge fan of the body/physical comedy (not my thing), but it was entertaining and awww finding family is heartwarming.
Finding Nemo - I remember nothing about this movie.
E tier (this film has significant problems)
Beauty and the Beast - *sigh*… I want to love this movie. The score is gorgeous. Visually, they could have made it more distinctly Rococo-era France but didn’t (why?) The voice actors did good work and I think Paige O’Hara is SUPER underrated here.
The Beast is emotionally manipulative with an awful temper that (for MOST of the movie. He doesn’t change.) That’s the main reason this is in E tier. This movie shaped so many generations of people thinking they can change the behavior of someone who treats them badly through the power of love. But you can’t. She learns to “love” the beast under coercion. It’s not Stockholm syndrome - it’s a trashy romance novel. Big fan of Gaston as a villain. He’s an archetype ppl can recognize and it’s so satisfying to hate him.
F tier (I think this film actively harms the industry and would rather it not have been made. Both the one in E tier could be considered harmful to the industry, but I think they had significant enough artistic accomplishments to scrape above that. I'm also generally a fan of "lack of censorship bc it's better to teach what not to do.")
Pocahontas - this movie took real historical events and romanticized them AND sexualized one of the only Native princesses they’ve had. Boo. Nothing wrong with animation!Pocahontas as a character, it’s just people put her in a story that doesn’t represent history well at all (and these historical events, unlike those in say, 14th-century Germany, had super relevant effects on people alive today.) And they portrayed the Native Americans and colonial settlers as equally in the wrong. (though I like Governor Radcliffe as a potential villain and love the line “see how I glitter.” I can’t NOT laugh when I hear it.) Lovely music, though. Nice animation, but the colors are weirdly… muted?
Bad Garbage (I don't wish this film had never been made, but I wish I never had to see it.)
Planes - this movie was ridiculous. I remember not much about it except that I kinda hated it and that it was super cheesy with tension one could see right through that immediately resolved itself via one twist or another.
Haven’t seen tier: Recess, A Bug’s Life, A Goofy Movie, DuckTakes Movie, Lilo and Stitch, Pinocchio (actually i have seen this but I remember nothing about it), The Nightmare before Christmas, Toy Stories 1, 2, and 3, Up, 101 Dalmatians, The Great Mouse Detective, Cars 2, Moana, The Good Dinosaur, Pete’s Dragon, Fantasia, Peter Pan Return to Neverland, Fantasia 2000, The Black Cauldron (read the book, though!), Bambi (or I did and remember nothing about it), The Rescuersm, The Rescuers Down Under, Planes Fire and Rescue, Bambi 2, The Fox & the Found, Oliver and Company, Atlantis, Treasure Planet (I want to, though), Piglet’s Big Movie, The Jungle Book, the Emporer’s New Groove, The Jungle Book 2, Chicken Little, Brother Bear, The Three Caballeros, Pooh’s Heffalump Movie, Dumbo, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Aladdin (seen parts but never the whole thing), Strange Magic, The Sword in the Stone, James and the Giant Peach, Frankenweenie, Lady and the Tramp, Ralph Breaks the Internet, Doug’s 1st Movie, Monsters Inc. (want to, though), Meet the Robinsons, Dinosaur, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Tigger Movie, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, that pooh movie at the end without the title on it

An Ace Attorney Analysis (based on legal styles)
Phoenix: ISFP -Passionately defensive of the moral aspect of his job — justice above all else, even if it means him losing a case. Tends to take on cases that have personal meaning to him. People consider him compassionate and sympathetic. -His whole thing is "turnabouts"/tending to wing it. Good at taking chances and inspiring others to do so. Not necessarily the quickest in terms of connecting ideas, but his investigative skills/finding evidence no one else noticed is one of his strong suits. Takes pride in his appearance, even if no one else likes his hair. -Singular end goals are important to him, to the point where he sometimes forgets to account for all the details of how a crime actually occurred (e.g. proving a witness is lying only to realize it doesn't change the case much; not being able to come up with an alternate killer) -You won't find much "sticking to the code" with him. Has enough Te to know when evidence is relevant, but doesn't build his whole case on them. Tends to focus more on what people would be likely to do than what is realistically possible unless pushed.
Mia: ESFJ probably; I have to look at her case again -She seeks a lot of guidance from her mentor starting out, proving to trust in more knowledgeable mentor figures than to create her own defense style until later. Forgiving to all those involved in cases, including people proven guilty of terrible crimes, and hopes that everyone receives kind treatment. Sensitive to the fact that some witnesses will be more appealing to the jury than others. Can be a tad sarcastic and passive-aggressive. -Less into crazy turnabouts and winging it and more about sticking to traditional routines. Dresses timelessly. When teaching Phoenix for the first time, sticks to how courtrooms tend to work. -Pretty capable of changing her perception of what happened based on the evidence available. Not particularly attached to one outcome. -Most of her conclusions come from paying attention to details rather than immediately shooting holes in things.
Von Karma (Manfred): ISTJ -This guy has won every single one of his cases pretty much the same way (and it works excellently for him). When things go differently, he HATES it. He likes to get his trials over with within the first five minutes, because if unexpected things come up, he does not thrive. Knows the law inside and out. Dresses super traditionally. -Gets rid of his obstacles in the most efficient manner. Strong use of Occam’s Razor. Tends to dismiss overly complex or convoluted arguments. Unafraid to completely crush his opponents with hard logic. Can fight nearly any objection off within a few minutes — he doesn’t tend to dither or talk through all the options out loud. -Manfred is the type to say that facts don’t care about your feelings. His own feelings about a trial may matter, but he lets them sit until he has a way of dealing with them, often holding grudges over things for a very long time and only acting on them later than anyone would expect him to. -When pushed into a corner, he can rapidly come up with many alternate explanations. Unfortunately, he’s not particularly great at this, and it rarely works.
Edgeworth: INTJ -Similar to Von Karma, but has a better long-term idea of how he expects cases to go, which is why it pisses him off so much when people without a similar sense of long-term planning outwit him (AKA Phoenix). Good at deductive reasoning, but his conclusions tend to come in the form of inductive flashes of insight instead of things that stick strictly to the facts. Not always the most conventional in terms of procedure, especially in Investigations games. -Puts up with Gumshoe’s eccentricities in favor of his competence. Tends to blast people using Occam’s Razor without thinking of other possibilities until forced (“the most obvious explanation is usually the correct one.”) Gets testy when witnesses waste time or vacillate — very clear on what he believes to be correct, but can change perspectives quickly if presented with the appropriate evidence. -His own emotions are buried pretty deep, and he’s often seen as stoic. Talking about his feelings is like pulling teeth for him. His trauma tends to show itself in terms of him withdrawing or having flashbacks, rather than in verbally expressive outbursts. He prefers not to talk about his own personal problems, and is reluctant to admit anything that might make him seen as “weak,” even if others actually consider it relatable or endearing. -Values fashion and has expensive taste. Tends to engage in unwise behavior when things are going badly for him (e.g. crushing a piping hot cup of coffee all over his hand when frustrated.) Not nearly as good at investigating on his own compared to Phoenix — sees objects around him in terms of their uses, why they might be there, rather than noticing physical details about them.
Von Karma (Franziska): ESTJ -When at a crime scene or in court, bursts in like a hurricane and immediately takes control of what everyone should be doing. -More similar to her father compared to Edgeworth in terms of having a strong procedural idea of how trials “should” go.” Takes a few breaks from tradition in order to go with what’s most efficient, though (i.e. having whips in court.) -A bit more intuitive than her father - more open to several explanations of how things could have happened. -Her own feelings about things are barely accessed by anyone, including herself. Tends to express quick moral judgement on whether things are good/bad by deeming anything annoying to her “foolish,” without looking deeper into it. Ultimately has a strong sense of right/wrong, but unwilling to look past her own assumptions to see the forest for the trees. (Finally, just assigning every type a character just for fun.) INTJ - Miles Edgeworth INTP - Ema Skye? ENTJ - Kristoph Gavin (honestly I think he might be ESTJ, but there aren’t a lot of ENTJ characters anywhere) ENTP - Calisto Yew INFJ - Lamirior is probably one INFP - Apollo Justice ENFJ - Godot ENFP - Maya Fey ISTJ - Manfred Von Karma ESTJ - Franziska Von Karma ISFJ - Iris
ESFJ - Mia Fey ISTP - Det. Badd ESTP - Shi-Long Lang ISFP - Phoenix Wright ESFP - Trucy
