I had my top surgery today!!!

I am feeling great, I woke up from anesthesia at about 7pm and walked back to the hotel with my partner at about 9pm.

I am so flat, it's crazy!!! Immediately, I felt so much relief and joy, and when they took off the bandages to show me my new chest before I left, I couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear.

The nurses were all so lovely and my surgeon Dr Tuve Mårtensson was also very nice.

The vegan food I was served after surgery was also delicious.

I went to Dr. Ivan Hadad in Indianapolis out of Eskenazi hospital for my top surgery and it was 100% covered by medicaid so I didn't pay a dime for it

Dr. Hadad was incredibly sweet and listened to every concern i had. Usually he does drain free top surgery but i asked him for drains because I didn't want to deal with the risk of hematomas

I have almost no pain! After surgery, my pain has been like at a consistent 2-3/10 WITHOUT pain meds. Obviously meds make that even more manageable, but I haven't really considered or thought about taking the meds unless my post-op care taker insists I take them lol

I have enough fat left on my chest that if I DID want to wear a bra, I could put in some chicken cutlets and have small boobs which feels so incredibly affirming to know i have OPTIONS now haha

the worst part of recovery so far is the itchiness. My incisions are so fricken ITCHY oh my god.

Binder is not comfy but it's not supposed to be i guess

I feel amazing in my body. i love knowing that now I can shop at clothing stores that just were not options for me before and it feels so nice to be EXCITED about fashion!

I LOVE BEING FLAT oh my god

Got a friend to come with me at least for a few days, and that's good enough. She'll take great care of me, and I'll heal fast!

hello internet! i'm posting in the hopes that someone likes these little figurines i've made here (two of the mushrooms were actually made with the intention of being incense holders!), as i'd like to continue creating these lovely little things and sell them in order to begin saving for top surgery!

i'm a 20 y/o afab nonbinary person currently work a full-time job but it's not enough pay to get me even close to making enough for top surgery. i've been wanting to create a little side-shop for ages anyway, and now that i'm really looking to move forward with top surgery, i decided now was better than ever to do so :) sell cute little frogs and mushrooms (and whatever else!) since it's fun to make them, will brighten someone else's life, and will help me save for top surgery!!!

my job is extremely physically taxing, and on top of a lot of joint and body pain just in general, binding every single day for 8+ hours is taking a huge toll on me. i can't go outside without binding without feeling... extremely Not Good, to put it lightly. so, not binding isn't an option for me-but i can't keep destroying my body like this. i'm in so much pain every single day, and my job is extremely rough on my body-it takes me hours to even somewhat recuperate after getting home.

so, haha, i'm looking to get top surgery as soon as i can, because if i don't have to bind anymore, i'm certain it will help lessen the pain i deal with every day! i've been wanting top surgery ever since i was 12/13 years old, and now that i'm 20 and i'm out of school and i'm facing a lifetime of working... i'd really like to get top surgery asap so that i can live my life to the fullest. getting top surgery will be the cherry on top to making my quality of life that much better.

i'd appreciate if anyone could share this! if anyone can donate, or if anyone is interested in buying a clay Thing from me, it'd be MUCH appreciated!!!! please dm me (preferably on instagram, but tumblr works too!) with any questions or inquiries. I guess I'm a little spoiled that Dr Mosser's website is the first one that always comes up when trying to research such things

Sooooo I want ✨ top surgery ✨ and it’s crazy expensive sadly. I’ve been saving money but life keeps laughing at me and have to keep using money on you know life things . Sooo like my question any advice on how to get it done? I moved to California and have medical but don’t even have a doctor or haven’t looked for surgeon .. Five Year Update

It seems like people are still finding this blog from time to time, so I thought I’d post an update for my chest’s fifth birthday today.

There isn’t really much to say in terms of my chest itself. It hasn’t changed very much in the last two years, but the scars have continued to fade and flatten and I think the area where the stitch got infected is less obvious. My body has changed because I’ve been on a low does of testosterone (on and off, but about 18 months total), though I don’t think it has affected the shape of my chest much. 

In terms of where the UK is at with top surgery for nonbinary people, it seems to be a double-edged sword where gender clinics have become more open to the diversity of trans experiences over the last five years, but at the same time the infrastructure of NHS gender clinics is in complete collapse, so it doesn’t make any fucking difference becuase people can’t access treatment in any reasonable timescale. For me, it took 3 years and 8 months from referall to the clinic to having my surgery, which now sounds supersonic when you consider that my partner who was referred in 2018, waited four years just to have an initial appointment, by which point they had been on private hormone treatment for 2 years.

Trans care isn’t the only area of the NHS that is suffering under the tories, obviously, but it does seem to be an area at the forefront of defacto privitasiation because people are desperate for treatment that is just not being made available.

Which is just to say, I am aware that I am very lucky to have got this life-changing surgery when and where I did, and I’m rooting hard for everyone out there who is struggling to access the care they need.

Although my surgeon, Grit Dabritz does not seem to offer private top surgery as far as I am aware, Ioannis Ntanos, who works with her at the same hospital in Manchester, does. I’ve heard positive things about him, so for those in the UK looking for private top surgeons, he could be worth considering.
