#febficaday2 - Day 28 (AUs)
Author: drowsyanddazed Rating: Teen Word Count: 20,776 Type: Non-magic, High School AU
Summary: They’re walking side by side, crowded on the too small pavement. The hum of the late-September air rustling the leaves and pushing them both along. There’s music faraway and hushed, floating through someone’s window, too quiet to place but Remus focuses on it instead of their boots echoing off the concrete and Sirius’ breathing, skittered and offbeat from his own. The sun is setting, the lamplights along the pavement lighting every fifteenth square in a sickly yellow glow. Everytime they pass under one, the light creates shadows on Sirius’ face. Remus tries not to notice the long, spindly shadows of his eyelashes, the accentuated concave of his cheekbone, and the way the light envelopes the tips of Sirius’ hair in gold, embers around black, like he’s on fire. But Remus has never been good at ignoring Sirius— even now, with anxiety filling his stomach like rainwater and a fit of pique low and twisting beneath his ribs, even now, he wants to reach out and tuck a strand behind Sirius’ ear, let himself be burned.
or:
Remus has never been good at ignoring Sirius and maybe, just maybe, he finds he doesn't want to ignore these feelings any longer.
Comments: I was a little bit in before I realized this was a high school au, which usually doesn’t interest me, but by then I was already hooked. The friendship, the pining, the characters (another great Lily!) - all perfect. It actually had me giggling at the cuteness on display. Something in the way this author writes had me so invested in the story, too; I’ll definitely be reading more of their works.

#febficaday2 - Day 23 (AUs)
Author: Athenowl Rating: Mature Word Count: 2,987 Type: Modern, Cowboy AU
Summary: “Sirius Black, were you about to break my window just to get my attention at—” He ducked inside again to check the clock. “--ass o’clock in the morning?”
“Come down here and I’ll tell you.”
“My parents are asleep.”
“You’re twenty-three,” Sirius said in the same tone of false sympathy, though his grin didn’t falter as he stuck his hands in his pockets and rocked back on his heels. “C’mon, I’ll be by the fence.”
Remus shook his head. His parents were dead asleep. Up until four minutes prior, he had been dead asleep, and quite comfortably so. There was shit to do in the morning, and if he wasn’t under his own sheets soon to get ready for work instead of snuggled up in Sirius Cocky Bastard Black’s bed, the stockroom inventory he had promised his mother would get done would be set back ages. “Give me five minutes.”
Comments: Never thought cowboy fluff would be my genre, but I’ve been convinced. This is delightfully warm and sweet.

#febficaday2 - Day 25 (AUs)
Author: sreka Artist: YumeNouveau Rating: Teen Word Count: 30,226 Type: Non-magic AU
Summary: Remus Lupin is busy enough baking cakes and balancing the books; he doesn’t have time to accidentally fall in love. Let alone fall in love with a client whose wedding cake he just agreed to bake.
Comments: Well this was just as wonderful as I hoped it would be. I'm not usually a fan of miscommunication as a trope, but it was executed perfectly here. Realistic and amusing but not frustrating to read. Though all of the delicious baked goods had me craving something sweet. Includes adorable art as well!

#febficaday2 - Day 7 (Holidays)
Author: fforsythiaaa Rating: Mature Word Count: 7,314 Type: Non-magic AU
Summary: Sirius had put his hand under Remus’s chin and kissed him gently on the mouth as though they had done it a million times before. “See you next week.” Just like that.
That week between Christmas and New Year’s always feels a little disorienting, with no real attention paid to the exact time or the day of the week. But for Remus, with hardly a word between them while Sirius was upstate with the Potters and Lily, it was dizzying.
Trigger/Content Info: alcohol use, marijuana use, cigarettes, non-explicit sex. There's a scene describing the support of friends/professionals after a sexual assault. No details about the assault are given and it's not brought up during/in the context of sex. The scene is marked out in italics so you can skip it.
Comments: A journey through Remus’ loving, worrying thoughts. There was a beautiful, gentle tone to it that was soothing to read.

#febficaday2 - Day 4 (Holidays)
Author: eyra Rating: Teen Word Count: 14,895 Type: Non-magic, Modern AU
Summary: Remus has always believed that December is the Hall's very best month. It's like the place was built to have boughs of holly and fir strung from every wall sconce and picture rail; like its architect, all those hundreds of years ago, designed it specifically to bear the big, fat garlands he and Lily wind around its balustrades and bannisters, and the jolly wreaths that they hoist into place on every door, and the towering, beribboned tree that stands proudly in the hotel reception and takes four of them a whole afternoon to decorate.
A country hotel in the wintertime. Plenty of snow, plenty of mulled wine, and a feeling that this Christmas might be different.
Comments: Cozy Christmas delight! You couldn’t ask for a better comfort fic.

Fest: RS Fireside Tales
Author: grumposaur Rating: Mature Word Count: 17,307 Type: Non-magic AU, Modern, College/University
Summary: When Remus witnesses a disturbing event walking home one night, it sends him down a twisted path of many discoveries: secret societies, macabre rituals, cloaked figures, and a dark-haired boy who proves to be the most dangerous of all.
Comments: What delicious tension this had. Thoroughly enjoyed, just the right amounts of pining and spookiness. Also appreciated that the author jumped right into the story, showing the characters’ relationships instead of describing their whole history. Looking forward to reading more from them!

Fest: RS Fireside Tales
Author: wolfpants Rating: Mature Word Count: 7,076 Type: Non-magic AU
Summary: Somewhere in the south of England, 2002. It's the first summer after first year at university, and Sirius, Remus, and James are headed to a gig at their local hellhole... literally. With a little help from some infernal intervention, can Sirius and Remus finally admit their feelings?
A story about gigs in the middle of nowhere, possessed CDs found in the woods, ancient PC crunching noises, and saying to hell with it when it comes to matters of the heart.
Comments: Obsessed with the atmosphere of this fic. The sticky summer heat and lo-fi, Stranger Things vibes, but with nostalgia for the age of clunky internet dial-up and CD mixes. And that pervasive itch for something to finally happen between Sirius and Remus - chef’s kiss.

Author: eyra Rating: G Word Count: 13,719 Type: Historical AU
Summary: Unthinkingly, he found himself reaching out to lightly trail the fingers of his right hand over the black and white keys of the piano; perhaps he had expected to find them still warm, or did so in some wild hope that they might convey to him their secrets through some magic or apparition. But they were cold, and told him nothing of what had just passed there, and Remus blinked down at them from behind his wire-rimmed glasses, and frowned.
"Very interesting."
Remus spends his summer at a crumbling country manor, unravelling its mysteries and discovering old-forgotten secrets within its tapestried walls.
Comments: Utterly charming and delightful. The softest, warmest bit of spookiness I’ve ever read.

#curiosityfest - day 7
Author: Engie_Ivy Rating: Teen Word Count: 9,668 Type: Historical AU
Summary: Young lord James Potter has finally won over the love of his life, the lovely miss Lily. Of course, according to lord James, their wedding requires no less than a week filled with celebrations. Remus Lupin will of course attend, as lord James’ closest friend, despite being only the son of a minor nobleman struggling to uphold his estate.
What Remus should do, is try to meet and get to know a wealthy woman, so he might one day secure a good marriage and has a chance help his father pay his debts, so they won't lose their estate and land to the cruel mister Fenrir Greyback.
What Remus shouldn't do, is let himself get swept away in some whirlwind romance with the Potters' new servant, a kind and clever young man, who's too beautiful for his own good.
Comments: A charming historical/royalty au, with lots of romantic fluff! The characterization was great and everything was sweet and wholesome.

#curiosityfest - day 5
Author: elixirsoflife Rating: Not Rated Word Count: 2,743   Type: Non-magic AU
Summary: A finger traces one of the lines on his palm, making him jump. The boy pays it no mind, saying, “This is your happiness line. It starts a little late but coincides with the beginning of your love line here.” He presses down on the line parallel to it. Remus’ pulse jumps. “You’re not in love, are you?” he asks abruptly.
I think I’m about to be, Remus thinks absurdly.
(Alternatively: Remus, a sceptic, goes to get his palm read by a fortune teller. Panic ensues.)
Comments: Adorable and hilarious! I have a thing for stories where Sirius seems ultra confident at first but then you get to see some of the vulnerability underneath. Definitely read A Supplementary Story by this author as well, if you haven’t yet!

#curiosityfest - day 8
Author: brokentoasterr Rating: Teen Word Count: 2,703
Summary: Remus was sure he’d seen him before.
The narrow grey eyes, the sharp cheekbones and jawline, the pointy nose. The elegant locks of black hair, only grazing his shoulders, the tattoos on his hands, the ones peeking through the collar of his shirt. The earring glinting subtly through his hair.
Remus must’ve seen him. Somewhere, sometime. He just couldn’t place where or when.
In which Remus and Sirius meet multiple times, but not quite
Comments: Such a fascinating concept; even though we only get a flash of each time period they all felt real and lived in.

Summary: Sirius knows he’s picked a bad day to visit his friend at work when, as soon as he walks in, James all but throws his work uniform at him. Things look up when the only client unfortunate enough to come in looking for a bath bomb while Sirius is on duty turns out to be pretty cute.
Comments: Ahhh this was adorable! My kind of charming, well-written fluff.
