I know this blog focuses on TIMs invading women’s sports and locker rooms but Saving Women’s Sports means more than that. Like calling out sexist bs when companies give men real clothes to compete in and women get basically underwear.

The Nike Air Innovation Summit in Paris on Thursday.Credit...Dominique Maitre/WWD, via Getty Images
By Vanessa Friedman April 12, 2024
Ever since the Norwegian women’s beach handball team turned the fact that they were required to wear teeny-tiny bikini bottoms for competition into a cause célèbre, a quiet revolution has been brewing throughout women’s sports. It’s one that questions received conventions about what female athletes do — or don’t — have to wear to perform at their very best.
It has touched women’s soccer (why white shorts?), gymnastics (why not a unitard rather than a leotard?), field hockey (why a low-cut tank top?) and many more, including running.
So it probably should not have come as a shock to Nike that when it offered a sneak peek of the Team U.S.A. track and field unies during a Nike Air event in Paris celebrating its Air technology on Thursday (which also included looks for other Olympic athletes, like Kenya’s track and field team, France’s basketball team and Korea’s break dancing delegation), they were met with some less-than-enthusiastic reactions.
See, the two uniforms Nike chose to single out on the mannequins included a men’s compression tank top and mid-thigh-length compression shorts and a woman’s bodysuit, cut notably high on the hip. It looked sort of like a sporty version of a 1980s workout leotard. As it was displayed, the bodysuit seemed as if it would demand some complicated intimate grooming.
Citius Mag, which focuses on running news, posted a photo of the uniforms on Instagram, and many of its followers were not amused.
“What man designed the woman’s cut?” wrote one.
“I hope U.S.A.T.F. is paying for the bikini waxes,” wrote another. So went most of the more than 1,900 comments.
The running comedian Laura Green posted an Instagram reel in which she pretended to be trying on the look (“We’re feeling pretty, um, breezy,” she said) and checking out the rest of the athlete’s kit bag, which turned out to include hair spray, lip gloss and a “hysterectomy kit,” so the women would not have to worry about periods.
When asked, Nike did not address the brouhaha directly, but according to John Hoke, the chief innovation officer, the woman’s bodysuit and the man’s shorts and top are only two of the options Nike will have for its Olympic runners. There are “nearly 50 unique pieces across men’s and women’s and a dozen competition styles fine-tuned for specific events,” Mr. Hoke said.
Tumblr media
Sha’Carri Richardson
Women will be able to opt for compression shorts, a crop top or tank and a bodysuit with shorts rather than bikini bottoms. The full slate of looks was not on hand in Paris but more will be revealed next week at the U.S. Olympic Committee media summit in New York. The Paris reveal was meant to be a teaser.
Tumblr media

Mr. Hoke also pointed out that Nike consults with a large number of athletes at every stage of the uniform design. Its track and field roster includes Sha’Carri Richardson, who happened to be wearing the compression shorts during the Paris presentation, and Athing Mu. And there are certainly runners who like the high-cut brief. (The British Olympic sprinter Dina Asher-Smith, another Nike athlete, told The New York Times last summer that while she opts to run in briefs, she also leans toward a leotard style, rather than a two-piece.)
What Nike missed, however, was that in choosing those two looks as the primary preview for Team U.S.A., rather than, say, the matching shorts and tanks that will be also available, it shored up a longstanding inequity in sports — one that puts the body of a female athlete on display in a way it does not for the male athlete.
“Why are we presenting this sexualized outfit as the standard of excellence?” said Lauren Fleshman, a U.S. national champion distance runner and the author of “Good for a Girl.” “In part because we think that’s what nets us the most financial gain from sponsors or NIL opportunities, most of which are handed out by powerful men or people looking at it through a male gaze. But women are breaking records with ratings in sports where you don’t have to wear essentially a bathing suit to perform.”
The problem such imagery creates is twofold. When Nike chose to reveal the high-cut bodysuit as the first Olympics outfit, purposefully or not, the implication for anyone watching is that “this is what excellence looks like,” Ms. Fleshman said.
That perception filters down to young athletes and becomes the model girls think they have to adopt, often at a developmental stage when their relationships with their bodies are particularly fraught.
And more broadly, given the current political debate around adjudicating women’s bodies, it reinforces the idea that they are public property.
Still, Ms. Fleshman said, “I’m glad Nike put this image out as the crown jewel of Olympic Team design,” because it may act as the catalyst for another conversation that has been long overdue.
“If you showed this outfit to someone from the W.N.B.A. or women’s soccer, they would laugh in your face,” she said. “We shouldn’t have to normalize it for track and field anymore. Time’s up on that.”

14, 15 and 20 for the ask game!
14. do you enjoy your country’s cinema and/or TV?
EHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. mostly no! norway does not have a big movie industry, and 80% of the movies we do make seem to be ww2 related in some way, and the rest all seem to be rather depressing and bleak or just... not my thing at all. (here i was going to talk about an animated movie they played for us in middle school that was just horribly graphic for some ungodly reason and it triggered All Of My Mental Illnesses but i just found out that one was danish so nvm haha.) there's also the Awkwardness Vibe. i do not think it's possible for norway to create a movie that is not steeped in awkwardness, so any movie that is made here must take advantage of the awkwardness. my favourite example is The Troll Hunter, which is framed as a school project home video and therefore Works. it might also just be a dialect thing, where only people in oslo (the capital) Speak Like That, and most norwegian cinema is 95% oslo dialect, and it just sounds really fake and theatrical to everyone else.
HOWEVER. THERE IS ONE (well, two. they made two movies) THAT I LIKE. AND THAT MOVIE IS ASKELADDEN / THE ASH LAD. it's an adaptation of norwegian fairytales. which fairytale? all of them. at once.
youtube
is it GOOD? i don't think it's good. but i love it. it's for Me. they made the ash lad movies for Me Specifically. it has danish villains. it references paintings by theodor kittelsen. askeladden has a dead magpie in his bag. it's anything i could ever want (i would also add that these movies were made with the help of the czech fairytale movie industrial complex, which makes me very excited. the czech republic is really big on making fairytale movies and have a lot of resources for it! that's also why a knight's tale has so many czech names in the credits!) as for TV, i think the biggest exports are Lilyhammer and Skam, neither of which i have seen. my #1 top favourite norwegian tv show ever is a show called "don't do this at home" where two guys did a bunch of dangerous stuff you're not supposed to do at home in a house that was on track to get demolished anyway.
youtube
soap in the dishwasher. it sparks joy To Me. other honorable mentions: - the time they played an 8 hour train ride live on TV which got so popular that they played a 134 hour boat livestream later. - norwegian commercials are surprisingly high quality?? is it weird that i enjoy the norwegian commercial industry more than norwegian cinema as a whole????
15. a saying, joke, or hermetic meme that only people from your country will get?
okay i'm struggling a little with this one right now so i'm just gonna post this
youtube
20. which sport is The Sport in your country? it's soccer - or football, as we call it here. the only sports that get any attention at all whatsoever are, in descending order: - football - skiing sports such as ski jumping or ski shooting (I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS SPORT WORKS AND I DO NOT CARE TO LEARN) - handball

Aah, thank you for the tag, @luck-and-larceny! It's fun to get to talk about the OOC stuff a bit! 1. Are you named after anyone?
My original name is the same as my great grandmother, but I'm not exactly named after her, it was more like "That works out." I changed my name a few years ago, and the named was partly inspired by the book Ella Enchanted. The book, not the movie.
2. When was the last time you cried?
It doesn't really take a lot to make me cry. I read a post about a grizzly bear raising her cubs earlier today.
3. Do you have kids?
Nope, and no intentions of having any. I do have 2 cats though!
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Sarcasm is practically the national language of Denmark. That being said, I use it a lot less than I used to.
5. What sports do you play/have you played?
My family in general were never huge on playing sports. I did play handball for a short while when I was 6 or 7, but my extracurricular were usually more on the creative side. I played the cello throughout my childhood and teenage years.
6. What is the first thing you notice about other people?
I've never really thought about it! Like @luck-and-larceny I think it's just like a general vibe thing?
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
I really enjoy both, depending on my mood! If it's one of those "you can only ever have one," I'd probably go with Happy Endings cause I feel like a world without those seems harder to go through than a world without fear, but I do really like watching scary movies as well, so... Both!
8. Any special talents?
I like to think I'm fairly creative and good at thinking on my feet. I'm a terrible planner, but very good at just winging it.
9. Where were you born?
In Denmark, in the outskirts of Copenhagen. Fun fact, I was almost stolen from the hospital as a baby.
10. Do you have any hobbies?
I play video games and RPGs. I enjoy storytelling in general, so watch a decent amount of movies and TV. I don't get as much reading done as I used to, sadly. Sometimes I draw or write. Is daydreaming a hobby?
11. Do you have any pets?
Two cats! Palida is a fluffy white Norwegian Forest Cat we brought with us from Denmark. She's deaf and a total diva. Monroe is a scrappy ginger kitty who we adopted from a shelter after he was picked up on some street in New York. When is their Disney movie coming out?
12. How tall are you?
Just under 5'8. Pretty average in Denmark, though I've been told I'm fairly tall in the US. I have no idea.
13. Favorite Subject in School:
Danish (similar to what would be considered English in the US), History, Art. In high school, we also had a class on Ancient Greece that I was very into.
14. Dream job?
I'd still really love to work on storytelling in games, but I have accepted that it's probably a pipe dream at this point. I don't know, something that lets me have a flexible schedule, be creative, and not having to deal with too many people, and *especially* not having to deal with bad management.
15. Eye Color?
Blue-greyish? They pick up a ton of color from the surrounding lights, so it kind of depends. My passport says blue.

Pro sports in Norway is wild freaking stuff
10 years ago, the phrase "Norway's 3 best 1,500m runners, all of which are in the mens' global top 6, are calling the police on each other and their coaches for domestic violence", would've sounded like a wordsalad that Norwegians couldn't have imagined in their entire lives.
Sure the same applies to "Norway wins Olympic gold at beach volleyball and triathlon", and "Kolstad Handball gets up from the tier 2 mid-table and beats Kiel in Champions League". But still.
(My deepest compassion is with Narve Nordås, who've done nothing whatsoever to deserve any of this chaos.)

Uh, Norway has one of the best women's handball teams in the world. Then we haven't even mentioned the dominance in cross country skiing and biathlon. Cross country skiing is the national sport, not football, and deeply rooted in Norwegian culture. There wouldn't be enough people living in smaller places to have a huge impact on the number of how many women and girls play football. One has to weigh in the above factors too when you consider organised sports in smaller Norway towns.
I assume the anon who chimed in and said they are from a small place where football was the only organised sport was norwegian :) Nobody was trying to say there aren't other sports in Norway and especially sports like the ones you mentioned where you have a lot of the best athletes in the world. But I don't see why that article would lie about Norway having the most women per capita playing football (1 in 26) so I choose to believe it and it's not mutually exclusive with anything you said

Manchester City struggle to win
In the absence of coach Pep Guardiola due to injury, the defending Premier League champions Manchester City were tied at 1-1 by Sheffield United in the 85th minute of the game on Sunday, and once faced the embarrassment of being tied by their opponents.
Fortunately, the tie lasted less than 3 minutes, and Rodri made a final decision 2 minutes before the end and won the game with difficulty! Manchester City is also the only team to score all 9 points after the first 3 rounds of the Premier League!
Although Manchester City had the advantage in the first half, they were still unable to open up the situation. In the 35th minute, Julián Alvarez successfully tricked Egan with a fake action when he broke through the baseline. Open high and just hit the ball. The referee whistled a penalty kick immediately, but Sheffield United thought it was an unintentional handball at close range. After arguing with the referee for nearly 2 minutes, Haaland took the kick from 12 yards. Past goalkeeper Fordlingham, but the ball hit the right post with precision and popped out. Sheffield United maintained a 0-0 score until the halftime break when their morale was boosted.
Carragher, a famous commentator on Sky TV, expressed his understanding of Sheffield United’s complaint in the first half. After all, Egan’s handball at the time was obviously an accident, but Sheffield United had nothing to complain about this penalty kick. “As a defender, I have also encountered similar scenes, so I can easily empathize with Egan, but after all, he opened his arms, his defensive area was greatly increased, and according to the existing rules, the ball can touch his arms before , was flying in the direction of Haaland, meaning it was a perfectly compliant penalty."
What worries Manchester City fans is Haaland's state. The Norwegian striker only touched the ball six times in the first half, one of which was a penalty kick. And Haaland's mentality on the field has also been obviously affected. Robinson, a famous commentator for the BBC, believes that it is best for him not to take the initiative to trouble the referee at this time. "You can see that Haaland is fighting against the opponent's body. He can’t gain the upper hand, and he chooses to complain more to the referee. According to the new rules of this season, he is likely to be warned by a yellow card. Haaland must learn to control his emotions. For him this season, it will not be like It was so easy and smooth last season."
Before kick-off in the second half, Carragher predicted that Manchester City will increase their support for Haaland, who will soon get out of the slump in the second half. It has been 20 minutes without touching the ball. Sheffield United is using a man-to-man defense. At this time, Manchester City should have more offensive players in the frontcourt to spread the defensive pressure for Haaland. We also saw that as long as you give The chance he got the ball, he almost scored right away."
As a result, the game situation was as expected by 캡사이트, and Manchester City's high-pressure siege in the second half further escalated. Haaland, who was in a mediocre state in the first half, suddenly got a lot of shooting opportunities, but the Sheffield United defense relied on goalkeeper Fordringham's wonderful saves to defuse Manchester City's offensive several times. It wasn't until the 63rd minute of the game that Haaland finally broke the deadlock. Grealish took the ball on the left side of the penalty area. Grealish did not rush to send a cross, but used the ball for a longer time to distract the opponent's defense. Haaland took advantage of this moment and was blocked by two from the center The state of the double attack stood out from the tight encirclement, successfully throwing off the marking defender in front of him and wandering to the far post. At this time, Grealish's assist was sent right at the right time. Haaland did not celebrate after scoring the header, but stood on the baseline He took a long breath.
The Manchester City team also relaxed slightly after breaking the deadlock. In the 85th minute, Walker, who was holding the ball from the bottom line, was cut off with his heel pass. Bogle intercepted the ball on the right side of the penalty area and shot straight to the bottom right corner of the goal. ,1 to 1! Walker, who made a mistake in this conceded goal, kicked the LED billboard on the sidelines in a rage. Fortunately, only 3 minutes later, Walker made a mistake. His cross from the right caused chaos in the opponent's penalty area. Rodri took advantage of the chaos and overtook the score again! Some Manchester City fans joked on social media: "The most stupid thing in the world is to let Walker enter an emotional state of rage, and all opponents who irritate him will be punished immediately."
Former Manchester City star Hinchcliffe was relieved by City's reaction to conceding goals, noting that the team is still angry about conceding goals, which is quite a testament to their lack of success because of last season's Treble. And the hunger for victory, "When a team wins the treble in a competitive environment like the Premier League, you definitely question whether they will continue their hunger for glory in the following season. This game is very good. Manchester City provided an answer to that question, and when you think they were tied in a game, they immediately ended the game with a more dramatic finish."

Popstar, Pink pays for Women Who Refuse to Wear Bikini-Bottoms
US pop star Pink has offered to pay the fines given to the Norwegian women’s beach handball team back in 2021. The team was fined for wearing shorts like the men’s team instead of bikini bottoms. The Norwegian women’s beach handball team was given a fine of 1,500 euros for “improper clothing” at the European Beach Handball Championships last week. The women’s team wore shorts like their male…

⠀⠀𝅄⠀⠀THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALLㅤׂ haaland⠀ 𓈒⠀⠀✧
Tumblr media
Since arriving at City he's scored 20 goals in 13 games! That includes 15 in the Premier League and five in the Champions League.
He has also become the first player to score hat-tricks in three games, back to back, and has already scored as many Premier League hat-tricks as Cristiano Ronaldo and Jamie Vardy
And get this - despite it just being October, he's just eight goals away from last season's Premier League top scorers Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min, with 23 each!
The Norway goal machine joined City from German club Borussia Dortmund for 60m euros (£51.2m).
Haaland is a still rising star in the game, and along with Kylian Mbappé he's looking to take over in the legend stakes from Ronaldo and Messi.
Here are some cool things you need to know about one of the hottest properties in world football.
Tumblr media
( ˘ᵕ˘ ) ﹒ WHO'S HAALAND? ⋌ ﹒
Tumblr media
He was born in the city of Leeds, England, on July 21, 2000. Haaland was born in Leeds, as his father, Alf-Inge, played in English football. The striker even admitted that his favorite team is Leeds United. His mother, Gry Marita Braut, also comes from the sport. She practiced heptaplo, being national champion in this modality of athletics. In 2004, at the age of three, he moved to the city of Bryne, located in Norway. In addition to playing football, Haaland played several other sports as a child, including handball, golf and athletics. In 2006, at the age of five, he won the world record for the standing long jump, with a recorded distance jumped of 1.63 meters.
Haaland's incredible goal-scoring ability is reflected in the numerous records he has already broken. For example, he became the first player in history to score six goals in his first three Champions League matches, and he also became the youngest player to score 20 goals in the competition
Haaland, on the other hand, reads play expertly – both his team-mates and opponents – and has an intuition of where the space will present itself. "Why does Erling Haaland score so many goals? Because he's capable of scoring so many different types of goals," Adam says.
Erling Haaland is rapid, and it benefits his team massively. It makes him far more versatile. Not only can he hold up the ball, but he can also receive balls in behind. The strength that he has, coupled with his speed, makes him a powerful opponent.
Erling Haaland is the best player in the world right now, and he has transformed Manchester City from a great team into one that is capable of blowing everyone else away this season. Just ask Manchester United, beaten 6-3 at the Etihad on Sunday, following another Haaland hat trick.
Tumblr media
( ˘ᵕ˘ ) ﹒ HAALAND'S BIGGEST INSPIRATIONS ⋌ CR7 & ALFIE ﹒
Tumblr media
From a very young age Haaland has not had a great admiration for strikers who are great like Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr, Karim Benzema or Robert Lewandowski. Players that all the teams in the world want because of his great talent.
Erling has great admiration for these three forwards. The reason is because Haaland reflects on them and they have a lot of similarities to his style of play. These soccer players have inspired the Norwegian striker to have a brilliant career.
"Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cristiano (Ronaldo) and Michu" are the strikers who inspire me and are my idols. Erling Haaland said in an interview conducted in 2021 when he was a Borussia Dortmund player.
Tumblr media
( ˘ᵕ˘ ) ﹒FUN FACTS ABOUT HAALAND ⋌ ﹒
Tumblr media
Erling Haaland zodiac sign is Cancer. He shares his birthday with many great stars from football and other fields.
At this part we will look at the facts about Erling Haaland Childhood and the family and background he grew up in.
Erling Haaland was born into a football-loving family. His mother, was a famous athlete who even won a national title in heptathlon. His father, Alfie was a professional footballer at the top level of English football.
Alfie Haaland had a successful career as a footballer and even reached the level necessary to play for the likes of Leeds United and  Manchester City. That’s actually why Erling was born in Leeds, although he comes from a Norwegian family.
Erling Haaland childhood was very much about Sports. Growing up in a family of professionals, Erling was destined to become an athlete from childhood.
One cool fact about Erling Haaland is that he broke the world record for longest standing jump for five-year olds when he was, well, five years old. More surprisingly, no one has broken His 1.63m record to this day.
Erling started his amateur career right from age 5 at the Byrne academy in his hometown. According to his coaches at the time, Haaland was so good that he immediately was promoted to higher ranks. He continued his rise until his first professional contract as a teenager.

Haaland's big miss from the penalty spot (video)
Erling Haaland missed the boat this Wednesday in the first act of the C1 quarter-final return between Bayern and Manchester City. While Mr. Turpin had awarded a very generous penalty to the Citizens for a handball by Dayot Upamecano in the area, the Norwegian wanted to take responsibility 11 meters from the target.
