♨️ Badstuen 💦

Været har vært ganske kaldt og det regnet mye de siste ukene - perfekte badstuevær, og jeg gikk i badstuen tre ganger. Jeg pleier å gå i badstuen med kjæresten min og noen av vennene våre (tyske badstuer er ikke delt inn i “mann” og “kvinne”), og vi blir der i to til tre timer og nyter noen Aufgüsse. Uttrykket Aufguss betyr “infusjon” eller “å helle på”… og i tyske badstuer er det et helt show! 

I løpet av Aufguss-seremonien heller saunamesteren vann blandet med aromatiske oljer på steinene eller ovnen, og bruker et håndkle eller gigantiske flagg for å flittig spre dampen gjennom badstuen. Så fyller badstuen seg med en forfriskende, duftende aroma. Når badstueansatte vifter dampen direkte mot meg føles det som å bli truffet av en varm flodbølge. Etter Aufguss-seremonien dusjer jeg, hopper i et isbasseng før å slappe av i små bassenger og å snakke med venner.

Å gå i badstuen får meg alltid i godt humør (spesielt etter en lang arbeidsuke), og huden min føles så glatt etterpå! Hvis du kommer til Tyskland i løpet av vinteren eller når været er kaldt, ta badstue! Vær modig og bli naken 😁

Traditionally when learning a language one watches TV shows in the language they're learning and subtitles in their native language (to start with) but I was looking for a place to watch DS9 episodes and found a Norwegian website but I can't turn subtitles off. So I have Norwegian subtitles and English audio, and it's definitely an interesting experience!

#langblr #it's kinda cool bc when i watch with norwegian subtitles i don't pay so much attention to words and phrases i don't know if context is clea #(especially bc in a lot of norwegian tv the subtitles are so paraphrased they tend to be more distracting than useful) #but doing it this way. i'll read the subtitle and hear the corresponding english and be like ohhh so that's how you say it #probably not the most effective way to pick up new vocabulary or phrases but it makes a change #and i'm all about shaking it up!

Today, in “I’ll take any good news I can find”:

A production of Romeo and Juliet with Deaf actors signing their lines has been referred to as bilingual! Not just “accessible” or “diverse” but also BILINGUAL!

This makes me happy because the general idea of ASL (and other signed languages) is that they’re just a manual version of the spoken language. By that logic, Norwegian is just a higher-latitude version of German. Signed languages are languages of their own! With unique vocabulary, grammar, and dialects!
