I just finished the audio book for Donna Tartt's novel The Secret History, so naturally I had to have a lil scroll to see what everyone thought on Tumblr. To add to the discourse: (spoilers, obviously)
Also trigger warning: incest, abuse, murder, alcoholism
Why is Tumblr so in love with Henry Winter?! He murders the farmer, Bunny, and possibly tries to kill Charles. He's manipulative and may well try to make Richard take the fall (har har) for Bunny's death. In the garden scene, he admits to being a psychopath/sociopath. Oh, and he's unbelievably pretentious
Also, why are there so many cute pictures of the twins hanging out? Their relationship was strained, incestuous, co-dependent, abusive. The whole uwu thing baffles me
Richard has a very obvious foot fetish and nobody is talking about it
The novel is quite funny, and I wish more people picked up on that. Most of the humour comes from Francis - the pinz nez stays ON during sex; no, Bunny's parents weren't very upset when one of their grandchildren ruined Francis' scarf, they were preoccupied by their missing son; and there's a throwaway line where the art students eat sushi with paintbrushes instead of chopsticks. I also liked when the twins panicked after Bunny's murder and decided to start repotting tulips
The farmer is referred to by name twice. Once in a newspaper, once by Bunny. Strange to think that he's the person in the squad who might actually have a conscience. Incidentally, Milo, the golden retriever who finds Bunny's body, has his name mentioned more frequently.
Richard is a smelly, badly dressed misanthrope. As is Henry, and Charles towards the end. Francis, Camilla and Hampden itself provide the (admittedly gorgeous) dark academia aesthetic, but if you want to end that dream, remember how terrible everything would have smelled. I guess the difference between appearance and reality is a pretty big theme
Julian is very creepy, obviously, but I was surprised that he wasn't more involved in the plot. He seems like exactly the sort of person to start a cult. I'd also like to know if he and Henry were in a sexual relationship, because we see them kiss once and then it's never mentioned again
Foreshadowing is done EXCELLENTLY through the book. There were a few characters who were described as ghostly at the start, and I THINK they're the ones who survive. Also, Tartt loves her pathetic fallacy (not phallusy).
Time is very strange. If you bothered to plot out all of the events, I don't think it quite makes sense. Term starts in September, say Richard joins Julian's classes in early October? That means all the picnics, the Sunday walks with Bunny, the trips to Francis' house, all happen over about five weeks, leading to the 12th November when Charles, Henry and Francis kill the farmer. Unreliable narrator, I guess
A lot of things about Richard's character make more sense when you realise the abuse he grew up experiencing and witnessing. Poor Ms Papen. Odd that Richard's parents don't visit him when he's in hospital
Funny that everyone is surprised when the twins' incest comes out. Like, they had an orgy at the start of the baccanal. Call me a prude, but I wouldn't attend an orgy with a family member
I would go for girls' night with Judy Poovey
Also, the book was published in 1992. Does anyone know when Prince Charles and Camila Parker Bowles went public with their relationship? Seems like an unbelievable coincidence otherwise
If anyone has an actual criteria for identifying alcohol abuse/alcoholism, please lmk if any of the main six characters AREN'T alcoholics. I'm pretty sure I got liver cirrhosis and lung cancer just from reading this book

are the people who are anti-nsfw-byler aware that homosexual males have sexual fantasies and urges, and act on those urges?
are they aware that we're not some pure magical fairies who "represent the cleanest form of love"?
like, no, we still get very horny just like nearly every other male. the difference is that we're horny exclusively for other guys.
even i, who also identify as gray asexual, have periods where i'm very horny, get turned on easily and my libido is all over the place. but i also have periods when i'm not interested in sex at all & just crave romantic affection. so most gay guys are even more sexual than i am.
we're not some "cute wholesome bois", we crave sex. and sex isn't clean whether you like it or not. gay sex is dirty and carnal, deal with it.
maybe it's because a lot of them are girls, but guess what, being horny and sexually aroused feels different for guys than it does for girls.
if you think gay males are dainty fairies who exist only to look cute and be pretty, you're part of the problem.
Delicious points, anon!
When many had a problem with hosegate, you know the problem isn't just with people not wanting to watch literal sex scenes (which is understandable- not everyone wants to see it) but on the characters being sexual beings at all (which is not understandable, since sex is a normal, healthy, and common part of coming-of-age narratives).
It also isn't just because Mike & Will are still underage because as many of my anons have pointed out, people tend to have way fewer qualms about Lucas and Max being sexual beings (the things under Lucas's bed, Max's "happy screams" comment, etc.) or about Dustin being a sexual being (his physical attraction to Phoebe Cates, Steve talking with him about "sexual electricity, etc). And obviously both Jancy and Stancy were still underage when they had sex.
I do think there's often a weird energy here specifically around Byler. People often emphasize how cute and wholesome and pure Byler is while neutering the sex part of their sexuality in the process.
Of course, that's a false dichotomy where Mike and Will somehow can't be both cute/wholesome/pure and normal teenage boys who get boners and think about doing the devil's tango. I mean when some Bylers in the past have tried cancelling fic writers for hinting that Mike and Will get boners sometimes, that's really weird, no?
If anything, this kind of mindset can often be more homophobic than those who are outright against two boys dating. In an effort to not "fetishize," Bylers make the characters sexless and sterile (which to some extent is more of a "fetish," if you really think about it). There's probably not one single specific reason for this. I think there are a lot of psychological elements at play, and there's a lot to unpack. I'd be interested in hearing anyone's further thoughts on this topic!

you were one of the first radfem blogs i let myself look through and think critically about. i was trans for 3 years, but the way that trans people talked about sexuality and feminism really bothered me. then i saw what TIMs were saying on reddit because of your account and it peaked me. i explored r/egg a little and realized that these men were not the kind of people i want to defend. i also realized that i was only trans because of men like them fetishizing and dehumanizing woman, and making growing up a girl so traumatic. so thank you for making me realize that being a woman can be more than the gender roles that the world forces upon us ❤
omg you are going to make me cry 🥲 genuinely. I wish you all the best! ❤️❤️❤️ you just made my day
as a thank you, you get my collection of images of whale lamps. I hope you like it!

The different forms of Necrophilia
An educational post on the different classifications of necrophilia as well as the impact on the human mind.
Hello, my name is Bastian. I am a 22 year old man suffering with the paraphilic disorder of necrophilia. I am here to explain further what it means as a disorder as well as what it might mean to suffer with it. Starting off, let's cover a more tricky subject on what it might mean to be a "diagnosed necrophile".
Psychologist and psychiatrists are still having an ongoing debate on what the terminology as well as criteria for Necrophilia, the debate in such topic goes as far as the current DSM has yet to assign a specific code and or terminology next to it. Though why is that? It simply comes down to there not being enough research as a whole, statistically it is highly rare and those willing to openly admit to professionals about what it is they might suffer with come down to be even rarer due to the negative connotation behind such topic. Rightfully so.
To be sexually attracted to a corpse and or romantically involved is extremely rare, perhaps the dilemma of most refusing to come forth with their feelings has a big part to play, though we are going based off of current statistics. What comes down to what feels like one in a million are the chances of a necrophile acting out on their fantasies. Most keep their desires to themselves and majority shouldn't be expected to act out on them. Pseudonecrophilia might align with majority ( We will come back to this term later. )
From a psychological standpoint there is nothing wrong with the fantasy alone, though fantasy as well as fetish only become a problem when they begin to significantly impact your daily functioning : getting arrested, not being able to properly have intercourse, thought becoming intrusive and drive you to borderline insanity, etc. The attraction to a corpse remains different for every person who experiences it spanning from the way internals might feel or visuals, it all comes down to personal taste. It is more broad than simply seeing a corpse and thinking it's sexually attractive, it plays out just like any other attraction one might have for a living person. There are turn ons and turn offs.
What tends to be a incorrect form of Necrophilia is the misdnepiction of the difference of an attraction to corpses and an attraction to power. Power is mostly portrayed in film and in murder cases where a body is taken advantage of sexually after a murder for that final dose of power over the victim without necessarily having an attraction to the corpse in itself, but more so. You guessed it. The power held in the situation, classically called a final "fuck you". An example of this could be Edmund Kemper and the sexual use of his mothers head. It didn't come from attraction but more so the ability to have one final winning point over the cause to whatever it might be.
Most of these cases don't stem from a genuine love or attraction to corpses, but more so an internal achievement wether it be fucking a body after rejection or humiliation of a corpse. Though that is 12% of Necrophiliacs.
What makes a Necrophile? Well, generally it is simple. Having a sexual or romantic attraction to the corpse of someone who is deceased. If you find yourself being attracted to other aspects of the hypothetical corpse but not the fact in itself the person is dead, you are not a necrophiliac. Let's cover the ten classifications of what makes a necrophile.
Reminder : most suffer with one or more of these, not often being normally restricted to just one.
Class I, Role players : Those who get aroused while pretending their partner is dead during sexual activities such as intercourse.
Class II, Romantic necrophiliacs : Bereaved people who remain attached to their dead lover's body, often with an attachment stemming from trauma and or sexual attraction.
Class III, Necrophiliac fantasizers : People who fantasize about necrophilia, but do not physically interact with corpses.
Class IV, Tactile nectophiliacs : People who are aroused by touching or stroking a corpse, without engaging in intercourse.
Class V, Fetishistic necrophiliacs : People who remove objects or body parts from a corpse for sexual fetishes/gratification, without engaging in intercourse.
Class VI, Necromutilomaniacs : People who derive pleasure from mutilating a corpse while masturbating, without engaging in intercourse.
Class VII, Opportunistic necrophiliacs : People who normally have no interest in necrophilia, yet take the opportunity to fornicate with a corpse if it arises.
Class VIII, Regular necrophiliacs : People who preferentially have intercourse with the dead.
Class IX, Homicidal necrophiliacs : Necrosadists, people who murder someone for the sole purpose to have sex with their corpse.
Class X, Exclusive necrophiliacs : People who have an exclusive interest in sex with the dead, and cannot perform at all for a living partner.
All of these classifications, as of now, individually officially label someone as a necrophile. Majority, including myself, can agree the urges more so come through as a fetishistic urge as well as intrusive thought and are not actively itching to fuck the body of a deceased person unless it grows to become a spiraling urge. Pseudonecrophilia mostly aligns with majority who suffer with necrophilia due to lack of knowledge in diagnosis. To answer your possible question, pseudonecrophilia's term use is debated upon by most and used differently though what is more commonly labeled with it is the terminology to describe an individual who has no desire to have intercourse with an actual corpse though more so the idea alone arouses them, having no will or urge to actually engage with taking action in their desires.
What it simply comes down to is a fetish, it is a urge. Majority are not at risk of actually going forward though concerns should of course be in order, though not enough to stem limitations.

Ever since y'all's darker kinks/fetishes conversation, I've been thinking a lot about what kinds of domming I actually *do* want to do but never ever express, even to myself, bc of the combo fears of "wanting to domme is Bad :tm" and "trans women expressing sexuality is Bad :tm: " style shit
And I'm realizing I actually really do *want* to domme/top full CNC 'mauled & used by a feral mountain lion catgirl" play, want to make my own embroidered leather collars for the preythings I claim so I can size it to their necks while I have them restrained, and want to actually explore building the various kinds of rigs, restraints, and fucking machines I already have the skills to build. Like ok, yeah, I like overstim-- but I also want to strap & lock somebody in and treat their inexorable pleasure like a pleasantly gurgling fountain, y'know?
And it really fucking blows my mind because, like, if I hadn't happened to have seen you & Maddie talking scary, dark kinks and really sat down with myself and asked, "hey, what are you scared of admitting to yourself that you really *want?*", I *never* would've realized, y'know? Like I've been going around pretty overwhelmingly seeking to bottom or sub; how many others like me are thinking that way just bc there's so much... Risk? Stigma? Fear? Shame? Around actually **wanting** to treat a sub like a plaything for your *own* desires?
#concretepussychallenge
Yo this fucking owns. Also, you realize how many people reading this are probably salivating over the prospect of being a hot trans woman's specialty collared primal prey??? my god, what a fun fantasy to enact!! We all miss out on so much pleasure when we demonize domming/topping, my god! Glad the convo was useful to you. Hope you can have some fun out there. Let us know how it goes hehe

For real, though. Vivziepop could have had the most vanilla fetishes, but I would still despise her because of how horribly she mistreats people and the harm she's caused and is continuing to cause.
Besides, one of the reasons people are talking about her noncon fetish is because she inserted it into Hazbin Hotel and got mad when people criticized her for it. Instead of just owning up to it, Vivziepop has doubled down on her lies, saying that she's exploring rape in a "serious" manner despite sexualizing it and enjoying Valangel fanart and tweets.
It's fine if you want to insert your fetishes into your stories, but if you're brave enough to put them in, then at least be brave enough to admit you did instead of denying it and painting everyone pointing it out as "Puritans."
This. If you're going to put our fetishes in your story, be honest about it, and definitely don't spend three days arguing with survivors who don't like it and throwing out lie after lie after lie.

The whole "breasts shouldn't be politicized because the primary purpose of breasts is to feed babies!" can be a fine jumping-off point, but I really wish people thought deeper than that when we talk about the ways in which bodies are politicized and restricted.
Like, why's it that when we talk about breasts, they must have some Higher Purpose? It's true that breasts aren't inherently sexual, but they aren't valuable solely because they can potentially feed a baby. A human body doesn't have to serve a Higher Purpose in order for it to not be legislated against or policed, and I just wish people would remember it isn't always about babies, about other people, about anything else other than the people who have that body.

ok ok, listen. I am gonna be straight with you. I am not a Patholic nerd and I really like the game. it has one of the most extraordinary stories/lore, plus its gloomy aesthetic is just my shit. but as a local Khalkh Mongolian, I very much dislike the herb bride designs. they have no inspiration from the cultures they are supposed to vaguely resemble, like literally nothing. i am a visual type of person and love it, ADORE it when shit is pretty to look at, it's in my blood. instead they opted for looking like straight-up savage unevolved cartoon cavewomen with skimpy outfits and foliage in their hair for good measure.
Tumblr media
they look so out of place here, which you could argue its intentional but cmonnn???
here’s my take on how they could have looked like or at least what kind of things the devs missed out on:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
—and their hair should have been braided in many different styles? all three of the major inspirations for the kin doesn’t like loose hair, if we are speaking traditionally. i really like these thin braids:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
yeah, i get Orkhon economy is in shambles so no jewelry and colorful clothes but at least cover their boobage?? idk just slap on thin deel + belt and then just rough it up? make decorations out of wood?? and beads out of bones without just dangling them?? just because shit is desperate doesn't mean we gotta lose our dignity too?
edit: This post’s main point is not about restricting the nudity or the creative liberty i am only saying they should have approached this aspect from a different perspective with a native eyes on the IPL development team. It may have came off that way because i used the word boobage huh?
#everything doesn’t have to be accurate but keep your shit AUTHENTIC#do not ‘umm actually’ me unless you are a local or studied altaic cultures#deepening my lore perspective is ok too. but do not be a snob w/ me#dancing so hard that your clothes fall off is kinda bullshit excuse but ok fine. it's an interesting idea. initially#yeah herb brides get empathtic moments but we do agree this is a fetishization of poc women to a degree right? like a sexualized caricature#one of them straight up die for a open your heart joke lol wtf#and if you are gonna sexualize something at least DO IT RIGHT#there’s much so cool shit you coulda done here but nooOO savage east-asians are apparently the hip thing to do ugh#but handling of the colonialization aspect is horrible#you google traditional clothes on our culture almost every single one of those women and they will have a hairdo and a deel+belt#p.s. we don't worship bulls#or an evil entity#our religion is tengri or buddhism. some of us are monotheist too#random trivia: the pronoun “I/me” is not written “be”. it's “BI”#random trivia: unmarried woman/girl is called a sewger#pathologic#pathologic 2#мор утопия#мор утопия 2#herb brides#flintstones looking ass#god i am so gay for all these women above (except the herb bride hell nah)#makes the 4 hours i spent on this so worth it#if I had a nickel every time if slav games i liked had an anti-asian undertones#I’d have two which is not a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice#mongol#tibet#buryat#mongolia#buryatia

Actually, I really wish Tumblr as a whole was less comfortable using feminizing language for gay men, especially gay East Asian men.

Augh I am not knowledgeable enough on this and I do not have the energy to see more of it but I am still thinking of it <- the morality and ethics of fiction and things like that and also how much of the author's views are affecting it
Quick example here: light from DN, most people tend to assume he's misogynistic, because the author unintentionally wrote his views onto Light's character. Of course, it is in a way where it does seem to be fair to have that negative trait onto Light, but in his other works that sexism is toned a bit higher and clearer to see.
So, that asks the question of many other works of art. At what point is it part the story, the themes, the character, and at what point is it the creator of their work, intentionally or unintentionally having their views baked into it.
Of course, I feel, it is maybe inevitable some of one's thoughts on matters are worked into their craft. It is your art, it will have your touch on it, whether you see it or not.
Wauhh there's so much to this. I am. Ough.
This of course eventually goes into rougher territory, does this person actually think this [horrible action] is acceptable, or justifiable? Or should we give the benefit of the doubt that it's meant to be in the realm of fiction that was meant for pondering, evoke emotions and connections to these characters.
What is romanticising/glorifying, truly? Though I suspect it may come to a 'case by case' sort of thing.
What is simply one's fantasies, of which, may be illegal to do so in real life, but they are fully aware of such. They still wish to engage in pleasure, though within the realm of fiction rather than reality so they do not actually harm others.
