The reason everyone likes Kai this season is that he is both very wise, and incredibly dumb. If you don't have both of those, you don't have Kai.

I think another thing that is hard with writing Harry's alcohol use is that it's very likely that he has cirrhosis (??)
Tumblr media
I'm not a doctor but I think that's irreparable liver failure. usually asymptomatic until its later terminal stage, called 'uncompensated cirrhosis'. almost always fatal in a matter of months/years unless someone gets a liver transplant.
I don't think Pain Threshold is wrong. a loved one of mine died like this. to me it seems like with Harry's symptoms a MONTH would be generous. with these signs Harry is ACTIVELY dying.
I struggle to ignore the fact that it's almost outright stated by the narrative. tho to be fair it's just aside dialogue by Kim and during the game you can go on drinking and not die
Tumblr media
(also this dialogue is from early in the game and Kim gets better. but great show of priorities, Kim. thanks for that. also 'the organization would miss you' lol. lmao, even. /s)
there's also the matter of alcohol withdrawal. for a game written by addicts (correct me if I'm wrong) who faithfully represent the experience it's also puzzling that Harry seems to exhibit no symptoms of withdrawal. I will update with a source but at some point I remember the devs mentioning that a couple of them prefer the sobriety route. so it's weird that this isn't touched on
now I personally interpret the game as a semi-hopeful one and idk with the tone of the game it doesn't FEEL like Harry's going to canonically die like 2 weeks after the game ends. it could just be a handwave from the writing because this is a video game with video game mechanics and not a medical documentary but.
I personally headcanon that there's something entroponetic that's keeping Harry alive. (the city? pale exposure? a miracle? THE miracle? all of those and more?) that might explain the lack of withdrawal symptoms and. everything else
it might explain why he can CHANGE HIS BIOLOGY and no longer 'benefit' from alcohol or drugs just by completing a mind project (see the thoughts 'Wasteland of Reality' and 'Opioid Receptor Antagonist') also why he can reverse PHYSICAL DAMAGE by using a damn nasal spray and a blister pack of panadeine forte. why he can dance right after taking two bullet wounds.
aaand I forgot the point I was trying to make when I started writing this. just food for thought. I haven't seen anyone else mention this

Okay.
I am being super, ultra cautious about how I'm wording this, but am going out on a limb here.
As someone who literally helped to care for her much younger brother (I had solo custody of him one night per week during his teens, I fed him, supervised homework, did his laundry, got him ready for school, made his lunches, all that jazz) I am just slightly familiar with what it's like to step in to be a guardian for a younger relative.
I'm reading Reborn. I'm reading basically all of Dick and Damian's appearances. I'm...not seeing a parent-child relationship here. I see mentoring and supervision, yes. I appreciated the "I was trying to have a night off" moment in Streets of Gotham. But a lot of this is just big brothering or vigilante mentor stuff.
I fully, 100% believe Dick and Damian bonded during their period together. I also believe they had a little family unit going on between Alfred, Dick and Damian. I respect people reading whatever interpretation they want to read of this material.
But from what I see on the paper? I think calling it parental is a stretch. Damian's in kincare, folks. On paper? Damian's physical needs are being provided by Alfred, his vigilante mentoring is being provided by Dick, as far as I can tell he's not even in education, and we get precious few insights into what's happening during daylight hours. (Especially, ESPECIALLY as I really have not seen Damian receive, well, boundaries outside of the field. Or consequences for his actions. Or...really, any active parenting)
Dick's looking after Damian, sure. But he's not Damian's parent.
And that's perfectly ok, not everything has to be reduced to a simple traditional nuclear family ideal.

I have a theory about Soldier.
He has amnesia or some kind of memory loss type shit.
Hear me out on this one, please, I swear this didn't occur to me because I just drank 15 cups of coffee.
TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR; death, severe injury, mentions of Germany in world war 2
So.
We know about the other mercenaries' families, right? Sniper's, Heavy's, Engineer's, Scout's, Demoman's... hell, even a bit on Spy's even if it's just Scout, Scout's ma, and Scout's siblings.
But we don't know about the families of three mercs. Pyro, Medic, and Soldier.
Pyro? Makes sense, we don't know anything about them. Name, Nationality, Gender... nothing!
Medic? Not as much sense but then again, he's German. According to my calculations, since he seems to be in his early 40's, then he'd be born around the year 1928 (the game takes place in 1968). This makes him around 5 years old in 1933, the start of H[]tler's rule, and around 17 in 1945, the end of the war.
With that in mind, his parents and/or close family are likely dead.
But Soldier?? Let's be real here, he'd probably be boasting about how American his mother's cooking is, or how American his father's mustache is.
Not to mention his canonical name... 'Jane Doe'. If you don't know, that is a placeholder name given to unidentifiable female patients and unidentifiable female corpses. (TransMasc Soldier confirmed???)
Why would his name be Jane Doe? Why would he be in a hospital? Some kinda head injury? Did the head injury perhaps start his delusions about the military?
Was it an accident involving his parents? The legal age to join the military is 17-35 years old. So, assuming he'd entered the second he could, then the delusion would have already been there. Meaning the accident probably happened before he turned 17.
So either his parents died in a freak accident involving Soldier, or he alone got into a freak accident far away from home.
Both of which would result in amnesia or some form of memory loss.
Parents died? Trauma response usually makes you forget stuff involving whatever incident happened. This happened to me, actually, it kinda sucks.
Freak accident (which, in my opinion, is the most likely)? Trauma response would likely kick in there, too, but memories not trauma related could be pretty fucked up in the process.
So yeah. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Regulus Black — NEWT years
Regulus returns in his sixth year with material wrapped around his forearms and hands.
“Compression sleeves”, he explains to those who ask. “Medical. I’m required to wear them, if I want to continue quidditch.”
They don’t ask any more questions, usually. It’s impolite. It makes sense, anyways. Nobody in Slytherin wants him to resign from the team — he’s a great seeker, and won them the Cup last year.
Barty and Evan see him get them off every night before bed. If they notice the ink on his left forearm, they don’t ask. He doesn’t want to explain how much he would prefer it to be just ink.
There hasn’t been an announcement from the government about Death Eaters trademark tattoo. If Regulus was stupider, he might’ve played it off as just a regular one, with a snake to honor his house. He doesn’t. Dumbledore leads the resistance. Even if the government doesn’t know of them, he must at least suspect.
When he returns home for Yule, he notices his muscles feel weaker and he has trouble grabbing things without them due to pain. He did that to himself. He doesn’t have enough time to get them back in shape before returning to Hogwarts — doesn’t know if that would even work — so he just wears them all the time. “Madam Pomfrey told me I should wear them,” he tells his parents. He doesn’t know if they bother to remember. Father’s illness takes most of Mother’s attention, nowadays.
Father dies a year later, in the fall of his seventh year; Regulus inherits the lordship ring magically during Astronomy (how fitting), and skip class for the first time in his life. Father is was a member of the Wizengamot, so the announcement is made as quickly as possible — the next day. He doesn’t see Sirius’ reaction.
Sirius doesn’t appear at the funeral. The only ones permitted are family. The media are waiting nearby, though. His compression sleeves get more attention. It’s not a treatment used often in the magical world. The Dark Mark has been revealed to the public, during the last year. He tells them everyone at Hogwarts knows he’s been medically required to wear them for a year now, and there are photos from his Quidditch matches to prove it. Nobody dares to suggest the Dark Lord marked him at sixteen years old. He wishes he had their optimism.
Regulus technically becomes a member of the Wizengamot. He never goes to a single meeting. He suspects they might check his forearm at least once, so he gets away with an excuse that he has to focus on his studies. People nod with agreement, telling him NEWTs are significantly more difficult than OWLs.
He doesn’t get his NEWTs, or goes to a meeting, or completes a real mission for themorganization he has been apart of for almost two years. Instead, during the spring break, he puts on his compression sleeves sitting on his desk, and hides the reaserch about Horcruxes under blood wards in it. He doesn’t burn it. He might return (little chance). Sirius might return (almost zero chance). They are the only two people who could open that drawer without the wards destroying everything it holds. If Sirius returns (he tries to think of a scenario where that comes true, but he fails), he should get a chance to learn about the Dark Lord’s vilest step, just in case Regulus fails. In case they need someone more competent, smarter, better than him to make sure that man stays dead when someone inevitably succeeds in getting a mortal hit on him.
He leaves the lordship ring on the desk. He has not announces a heir publically; it will be Sirius. He goes to the drawing room and overrides his parents’ banishment of his brother. He leaves the family tree unchanged. No need to alert Mother of the “sudden” decision. If he dies today, without the ring on, it will not automatically transfer on his brother’s hand. He will have to set foot in the house again. He figures this is the only way to ensure Sirius doesn’t bury the name six feet under. Going back here will have to mean he accepts being a Black, in a way. The house listens to his condition, and obeys. He enchants his room not to let any of his family, bar his brother, in.
He has half a mind to take the sleeves off, before going to the cave. He doesn’t. He can’t hold a wand properly without them. They as must a part of him as what they cover, now.
A wave of cold, stale air from the cave hits him, and he wonders if he’s the last Lord Black in the history. He discards the thought.
He’s here to kill an immortal. He better get to work.

inspired by @sionisjaune's tags and THIS nico in glasses art by the incredibly talented @movieboyfriend
Becoming a sports psychologist had been easier than Nico expected.
All he needed was a bachelor's, which he already had, and a Masters' degree which took 18 months and submitting a paper on eating disorders to achieve. Board certification was annoying, Nico just doesn't have that kind of time, but the workaround was simply calling himself a 'performance enchancing counselor.' A corner office in Monaco, a shiny plaque with his name on it, and a star studded roster of athletes and C-list celebrities he'd hosted parties for during his influencer days for potential clientele, he was all set.
F1 hadn't been the goal but at the same time... who better than Nico, who knew exactly how motorsport could chew you out? His karting dreams were long over, but the smell of gasoline and burnt tyres and the roar of the crowd is still his forte. It just so happened Formula One decided mental health awareness was totally in style now, and one of their main sponsors held an event on mindfulness and how it can be achieved drinking more Heineken. Having a father for a World Champion is helpful, when it means one has lifetime passes, and this had been a prime networking goldmine; not for the drivers themselves and their fragile egos at the implication of psychological help -- but sliding his practice's embossed gold card in the suit jacket of one Toto Wolff.
Lewis saw therapy as something good and necessary, but ultimately for other people. And then Abu Dhabi happened. And then the W-13. And Toto had mentioned what Keke Rosberg's son was up to, how it could possibly help him out of his slump, and hearing that name after so long made Lewis' usual 'thanks but not for me' die at the tip of his tongue.
"I'm not going to imply whether all your issues stem from trying to make your father proud or ask you about your childhood. I would remember. I was there." Nico had smiled over his thin-rimmed circular glasses, with that knowing sparkle during their first unofficial session and Lewis was sold.
"As long as you don't expect me to call you 'doctor,' man. Jeez, who would've thought? Dr. Nico Rosberg."
After that, every week unless he's in LA, Lewis finds himself in Nico's chic Monaco office. It's not stuffy like a therapist's office; a turquoise wall and Nico's dad's helmet is on a shelf display, a German national Team jersey hanging on the wall, there's even a YouTube million subscribers golden plate. Lewis is sprawled on the bean bag, the sunlight from the floor to ceiling windows hitting in beams, and not for the first time Lewis has to reconcile the kid he knew has grown up into the adult in distinguished glasses and same golden blonde hair in front of him. Nico dresses like he's about to give a TedTalk, in his monochrome tee and blazer combo, and that somehow puts Lewis more at ease.
"The car's been so fucking shit. I'm not here to fight for, what, p10? That's not me. And the team..." Lewis rants, and it's so freeing to be able to call the car shit without adding in how they're improving bit by bit and other optimistic platitudes that don't mean shit in terms of the championship.
"And the team's been prioritizing Russell over you, I can see how that can be a source of frustration." Nico finishes.
"What? No. He's not -- the team's not. I'm saying, it's annoying enough the car isn't where we were promised it was gonna be, and now every week I'm getting asked if I want to retire, like what's this all for?" Lewis is momentarily taken aback by Nico's claim. Is that what people think? The team... well, George has adapted to the car easier and has been finishing above him but he hadn't felt any particular favouritism from the team... Although he's been the one running experimental setups and helping the team collect data while his teammate gets dubbed Mr. Saturday. The seed of doubt towards the team makes him frown.
"You don't want to retire. Not until the 8th." Nico points out decisively, getting up from his armchair to walk behind Lewis where his plants are.
"I don't. Even if no one believes me, apparently." Lewis rolls his eyes, hearing as Nico spritzes his plants. He could've sworn they were fake.
Lewis feels a hand on his shoulder, surprising him. "You're just going to have to prove them wrong. Like you always do." Nico smiles down at him with absolute conviction, squeezing it once, and then the weight is gone; Nico moving back to his chair.
The gesture was friendly, but it makes something flare inside Lewis. Something about Nico, maybe the fact he can open up to him the way he can't even with the team; maybe because Nico knew him before seven titles, before he was anyone, makes Lewis instinctively trust him in a way he rarely does with new people. But Nico isn't new, even if the glasses are. Lewis finds himself wanting to know more, wanting to fill the gap between the years.
"Now, let's go over your daily mindfulness affirmations..."

Would Long Covid count as a psychical disability? It definitely feels like it but doctors of course disagree .../g
It counts as a chronic illness which is considered by many to count as a physical disability if it is, well, physically disabling. Some chronically ill people don't consider themselves physically disabled so it's a personal choice. Many people with long covid are very detached from disabled communities as it is a fairly new illness so they still don't want to consider themselves disabled. This could be due to internalized ableism or pressure from loved ones and doctors to not "give up" and accept themselves as disabled. This is pretty normal for any newly disabled person though, not just those with long covid. It took a while for me to accept my own disabilities as I was pressured to not consider myself disabled. I hope those with long covid are able to find community, whether that be with us or themselves.
