Machete and Vasco are so pomegranate-and-the-hand-that-slices coded. To me.
Pomegranates are seen as messy, bloody, inconvenient fruits. You slice or tear or bite and in return for your effort you come away underwhelmed, disgusted, and stained too deep to wash. The consumption of a pomegranate is a violent act of defilement, for both the fruit and the eater.
But that is because most do not understand how to open a pomegranate. They have little patience for the precise carving. They see no point in coreing the fruit gently, no reason to be reverent as they pull the quarters apart. When done correctly, opening a pomegranate leaves little mess. Your fingers will still stain, your knife will still slick, but there will be no pool of crimson drowning both you and the fruit.
The seeds are only sweet to those who understand the merit of a light hand and intricate slicing. Why put in so much effort for a food so bitter and clearly armored against consumption? Surely it must not yearn to be eaten.
(^insane about silly catholic dogs)

Prompt 125
So. Apparently touching unknown artifacts is bad. Who would have thought. Not the Dannys that’s for sure. They had been distracted with their prank war after all.
But uh, now they’re in a new world, with a black-haired child staring at them with borderline stars in his ice-blue eyes.
Nine year old Bruce just saw some sort of portal open up (MAGIC?!), and drop some sort of really spherical eggs that hatched into what he’s pretty sure are some sort of raptors within two seconds. A trio of feathery raptors that he takes inside to show Alfred, who would be far more worried if not for it being the first time he’s seen Bruce smile in nearly a year.
Well it seems they have a trio of sapient raptors. That can apparently breathe fire, ice, and electricity respectively. They can… totally deal with this. At least that robber didn’t lose their foot.

Spider better be allowed to connect with Eywa next movie for the sole reason that I need to see him sit with Neteyam in the spirit world. I need to see him hug his baby brother and tell him he loves him. it's literally causing me physical pain.

It's kind of funny that Kendall and Shiv are both equally delusional about their ability to charm people for business and somehow think they can do it even though they choke almost every single time, whereas it's like the one thing Roman is consistently good at despite being the "least legitimate" option.
I think part of this comes down to the fact that Shiv and Kendall both have very clear ideas of the versions of themselves they're trying to be and the images they're trying to project, and they're trying so hard to be seen that way that they end up coming off as a little desperate and off-putting. Meanwhile Roman "knows" that there's something wrong with him and he's worthless, so he doesn't get sucked into the trap of trying to force people to see his idea of himself and instead molds himself into whatever he thinks the other person wants from him because that's the only way he can compensate for "being him," which works very well in the short term but also means he's the least capable of maintaining any relationship for very long because he has no sense of self.

blackmadhi week day 3: culture  📚
transcript under cut
First comic features Athena and Simon having the following conversation:
Athena asks, “Oooh, what’re you reading? ‘The Pillars of Khura’inism? That’s new.”
To which Simon responds, “I’m fact-checking. There’s no way there’s a hell made of tickling or a hell of (oddly specific) hangnails. It’s all balderdash. The Sad Monk is making it all up.”
Athena looks pensive, asking again, “You think? Wouldn’t it be, like, bad to lie about your religion?”
“Irrelevant.” Simon replies. “I care not for what that blackguard gets up to.”
Athena interjects, “Says the one looking up Khura’inese insults now.”
Simon answers, “‘Pohlkunan’ is very versatile.”
Finally, Athena says, “... Simon, you know that you can talk to Nahyuta normally, right? Just reading about someone’s background... won’t get you any closer to them, you know?”
Simon concludes with, “...I know.”
Second comic features Apollo and Nahyuta having the following conversation:
“’The History of Rakugo’... ‘Japanese Society’... ‘Legend of the Samurai’...? Hey, Yuty, what’s with all these books on Japan?”
“They’re for research purposes.” Nahyuta responds.
“Research for what? Are you going to Japan?”
“Not that I know of, no.”
“Then, why?”
Apollo is met with silence. He then offers his own thoughts, saying, “...does this have something to do with Prosecutor Blackquill? I know he keeps playing mind games with you, but don’t listen to him, Nahyuta. He’s just trying to rile you up.”
Nahyuta declares, “I am going to defeat him at Japanese Trivia and then we will see who is laughing.”
Apollo looks exasperated all of a sudden, remarking, “...I can’t believe you’re trying to out-nerd Blackquill.”
“And succeeding.” Nahyuta adds.
“And... succeeding.” Apollo repeats skeptically.
Third comic features Simon and Nahyuta having the following conversation with a shared thought bubble on top of their heads, reading:
“What part of me getting invested in your culture and niche obscure interests do you not understand. I am in love with you”
Nahyuta starts speaking, saying, “What are you looking at? Direct your filthy eyes elsewhere.”
“Tch.” Simon responds. “I’m only looking in this direction because I felt your piercing gaze at my back! You look away first.”
“You look away first.” Nahyuta insists.
“No, you look away first.” Simon shoots back.
“I don’t feel like it.”
“Hmph. Well, I don’t feel like it, either!”

Lily looks out of her window and, sure enough, spots a silhouette hiding behind the fence of her neighbors' garden.
"No way," She whispers on a giggle. "No you fucking didn't."
Grabbing her shoes is easy for once, since they're not hidden under a dresser or another room; the true struggle comes when she has to pick whether to sneak out from the front door like a normal human being, or use her window.
Her father has fallen asleep on his armchair, as per usual, which means her mother will be waking up randomly to go fetch him so he doesn't break his neck and wake up grumpy in the morning. It could happen in less than a minute, it could happen in two hours.
Lily doesn't like her odds, and she likes heights even less, but that's what being a teen is all about, isn't it?
At least that's what the movies say.
With that in mind... Out the window she goes.
She's tempted to use some magic to help herself a bit and make things easier; then she reminds herself that despite being more than good at voiceless magic, she isn't quite as skilled with the wandless kind. With how loudly and strongly her heart is thumping in her chest, she might lose some control over herself and make a mess of things.
Gryffindor she may be, a complete fool she is certainly not, no matter what Mary and Marlene tell her.
In the end, climbing down her window isn't as daunting as she thought it would be.
Lily lands on her feet just right when she has to hop down, her grin is so wide her cheeks hurt. She almost glances up, as if to preen, but her sister isn't home, and her sister wouldn't clap for her success.
"Regulus!" She whispers-shout, rushing to the other side of the street, shaking off the sudden sour mood. "How did you get here?!"
Regulus Arcturus Black is an enigma to most, introverted and skilled and a loner to boot, he pretty much has no friends except for Evan Rosier, who everyone says trails after Regulus like a guard dog because of their families. Lily has adored him since he casually slipped in the seat next to hers during a Slug Club dinner a year or so ago and tripped Snape on his way over to stop him from bothering her.
He had apologized profusely to Snape, and to Professor Slughorn, too, only to immediately send a smug smile Lily's way when both teacher and student had turned around to find Snape another seat.
"Determination." Regulus says, standing straight and with his chest puffed out now that he's not hiding from both the neighbors and Lily's father. "And science. Well, magic, but it was an experiment, really. So..."
On closer inspection, Lily can see a bit of a bruise forming on Regulus' forehead, and some dried blood on the hem of his shirt. "What did you do?" Lily hisses, grabbing his hand and dragging him away.
Regulus sucks in a breath, excited, and whatever he's done better be worth the physical damage, or- "I Apparated!" He pulls on her hand, grinning like a maniac when she stops in her tracks to stare at him. Regulus wiggles his eyebrows. "Except I didn't do it the usual way!"
"Shut up!" Lily is both horrified and elated by the news. "You didn't! Regulus, that was all theory!"
"And now it's also practice!" Regulus squeezes her hand, delighted. This boy? Is insane.
Lily truly could not have found a better friend. "Are you gonna ask me what I think you're gonna ask me?" She doesn't need to sound so hopeful, it's certain what Regulus wants to accomplish, here. She asks anyway.
"Lily Tiberius-"
"Not my middle name." Lily cuts in, holding back her laughter.
Regulus continues, undeterred. "-Evans, will you do me the honor of joining this experiment and find out if I can carry others, too, on my not apparating journeys?"
Lily pretends to think about it, makes a big show of letting go of Regulus' hand so she can tap at her chin. Regulus rolls his eyes, but he plays his part, holding his hands together as if in prayer, shooting her the same wide eyes he'd given Snape when he had "apologized".
"Very well, Regulus Archibald-"
"That is not my middle name, goodness sake!"
"Black! It'll be my absolute pleasure to hop through space and magic with you."
They share a laugh, and then they immediately shush the other, grabbing at each other's upper arms to move away from the row of houses that surrounds them.
"We might die." Regulus says, breathless with laughter. "We truly might die!"
"For science!" Lily humors as adrenaline runs through her whole body, making her shudder.
"And magic!" Regulus points towards a random spot ahead of them, somewhere in the horizon, maybe the star lit sky. "To the Rosier Residence!"
Lily can't contain her laugher at that, and then they have to run when someone's lights turns on, a window sliding open somewhere behind them.
Regulus almost trips and faceplants, which only pushes him into another round of manic giggling.
However the experiment goes, Lily is just glad to be doing it by Regulus' side, even if they lose a limb, even if they die.
They're off to see Evan anyway, and he'd probably stitch them back up, bring them back from the dead just to berated them before locking them up and treating them as his unruly pets.
It's not as bad a fate as it might sound, all things considered. Lily and Regulus would probably find a way to break out, and Evan wouldn't even be mad, just proud of their accomplishments in the end.

sue me idc but i think that Jason and Tim would both like things that are considered "childish" typically, i.e. Legos or dinosaurs or stuffed rabbits random stuff like that and they would both try and hide the fact until one of em found out, in my brain it goes like this:
Jason is rearranging his room and has a box of action figures n Legos set out and Tim comes in while he's cleaning and sees the box and Jason starts to get defensive but then Tim just grabs his arm and leads him to his room where he has a similar bin filled w various stuffed toys n Legos and colored pencils. they bond over this shared trait, building new Lego sets together or on some occasions playing with action figures of themselves. they both have this trait for different reasons tho -
For Jason, his parents couldn't afford toys or wouldn't buy them for him and wnv his mom tried to get him a toy his dad always ended up breaking it or it wouldn't even be a toy in the first place it'd just be some trash, and then when he became homeless he just couldn't afford toys/didn't want to seem "weak".
For Tim tho, his parents wanted him to succeed and they thought having "childish interests" like drawing or playing with Legos would hinder his maturity and so he never got to experience those various joys after the age of like, 6
So for both of them, moving to the manor and having some amount of wealth gave them the opportunity to relive parts of their childhood that they were never allowed to experience fully.
This isn't to say that none of the other batkids would play w Legos or have stuffed animals, just that i think Jason and Tim would feel like they had to hide it moreso than others.

I've had some ANF thoughts today. Y'all know how much I hate the "love triangle" aspect of the story with Javi, Kate, and David, right? If you can even call it a love triangle; it's more of a "David and Kate never felt like a married couple to begin with and now Javi has the chance to bone his sister-in-law as if that's not a weird thing to do at all👍" thing, so... not great.
I'm also just not fond of Kate as a character in general. She's pretty good in ep1, but after that it's a slippery slope as she's relegated to the injured love interest for Javi. There are interesting aspects to her, like how she's resourceful and on top of things, she keeps track of herds and overall is shown to be incredibly smart. But, she also has moments where she has to let herself be emotional and a little panicked because she knows she needs to get it out of her system in order to focus. She gets frustrated with Gabe and says things she shouldn't, and she just.... I dunno, does dumb shit sometimes? And that would be fine if it made sense... but it doesn't.
I was always more interested in the Garcia brothers aspect of ANF, and felt the story would've been improved if it focused more on Javi and David, their relationship as brothers in the past and how different it is after they've found each other again in the apocalypse. One of the best scenes in the entire game is the rooftop scene where David ask Javi to stand with him.
And so I was thinking about ANF this morning and what could be done to make Kate fit better in the story and like...it hit me: Kate should've been their sister.
No, seriously, hear me out: Kate should've been written to be the middle child of the Garcia siblings instead.
Do you know how much that would fix? Throw that stupid love triangle in the trash. It was never good, it did nothing for Kate's character, and now David and Javi don't have to bicker about who she's married to and who gets to bone her, okay? No bullshit fight at the end!
David was already married once, just let him be divorced or a widower, and a single father. Javi can have a new love interest; hell, give him two if you want, let him be a bi king over Eleanor and Tripp- wait, no that just creates another love triangle, damn it-
Anyway... if Kate was their sister, then her entire character overflows with potential that wasn't there before.
I say make her the middle child who was stuck with two rivaling brothers, one a military man who became a single father and the other a professional baseball player who lost it all in a gambling scandal.
What about Kate? Perhaps she's a single woman who doesn't know what she wants in life. She doesn't want to settle down and have kids like David did, but she also doesn't want to sink so low like Javi did. She wants to travel, but needs money to do that so she does what she can save up, but there's always something that makes her dip into her savings.
Y'know... like her father getting sick and needing to pay for treatments, which Kate is happy to give up those savings so for a chance for him to beat cancer, but there's always that little bit of bitterness lingering inside her that keeps saying, "it's never about what I want, it's always about David or Javi, I'm going no where, I'm no one, even I don't know who I am or what I want, what am I doing? Papa got sick, so Javi ran away again, and so did David when he reenlisted, and who got left behind to take care of everything? Me, it's always me left to take care of Mama and Papa, and the kids, and everything else!"
Maybe she acted as a mediator between the brothers, too. They always relied on her when they were pissed with each other, they vented all their problems to her, and she always tried to get them to connect on something, but never found that right thing.
Hell, this way she could get along with the kids better, too. She's just Aunt Kate. She always volunteered to babysit them for David. She and Gabe still have their tiffs due to clashing attitudes, but there's no "you're not my mother!" vibe.
Suddenly Kate's her own person and not just an object the game throws at you for the brothers to grunt "she's muh wife!" "but I love her, too!" at.
ANF becomes the story of these three siblings who experienced the worst night of their lives together: their father died after a long battle with cancer, their mother is distraught, Javi didn't show up in time, David's drinking on the porch and Kate's trying to look out for everyone. Then the outbreak happens, their father comes back as a walker and bites their mother, David rushes off with her to the hospital while Kate and Javi take the kids...
Years later, Kate and Javi have accepted that they've lost their parents and big brother, and they're doing what they can to keep their niece and nephew alive... until Kate gets shot and they reunite with David, because then everything gets extra complicated with the three siblings trying to repair broken bridges and survive together until they hit a breaking point where Kate gets sick of David's shit. She's done trying to be nice and play mediator, she's ready to do what she thinks is right and an argument breaks out... and Javi's forced to choose between his brother or sister, and the tragedy becomes about being unable to save one of them... not matter what, in the end, Javi will lose a sibling because no matter how hard he tried, they still fell apart.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
I just really hate every plot they give Kate, y'all. She was done dirty.
And I loathe love triangles that involve two siblings [usually it's brothers] falling in love with the same person, okay? I don't have the patience for it, I just want all of those love triangles to go far, far away from me forever and never bother me again.
Anyway, do you love this thing I do where I show up after months of inactivity to slap something like this down before scurrying away? Because I'm scurrying now.

So I know Penguin was probably just making a crack and didn't actually think Batgirl was Batman's little sister, but tbh it could potentially be a good secret identity diversion for both of them if they played into that assumption. Let everyone think Batman's got a kid sister he's finally decided to let tag along on missions, and then pretty much nobody would be looking at Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon as potential suspects, since neither one has any siblings.

normal thing to say about your dear friend who you think is really cute and charming and hard-working and basically the perfect wife material
#hamefura#my next life as a villainess#otome game no hametsu flag#aaand rewatch done! now my honest thoughts#good start. the middle is kinda boring. ep 8 doesn't exist don't worry about it#this anime draws me in in the same way that Futari Wa does#in that it has a fascinating main cast and a very vague skeleton of a worldbuilding that leaves me wanting to overthink it#unstructured thoughts incoming:#Geordo's still a creep and no matter how much the story wants me to like him I just can't#Keith's siscon is very Yikes! and that's so bad because I love his and Katarina's relationship as siblings#Katarina lowkey thinks Sophia is a freak but never kinkshames her and that's so bestiecore of her. they're soulmates your honor#Mary is SUCH A LESBIAN holy shit. I did not remember how much lesbian she is#I'm lowkey annoyed that the show frames her attraction to Katarina as “haha funny isn't she weird?!”#like in the sleepover episode she was describing the things she'd like to do with her beloved and she's being like. normal about it#but the soundtrack does a silly and I'm like. wow this anime does not like her huh#I swear Geordo and Keith are even weirder about Katarina than she is but the anime always gives them slack about it#unless they're having their homoerotic squabbles. which is to say the anime does Not Like The Queer Coding of the story#I'm sure there are worse examples of weeb homophobia but there are a couple moments I saw in the manga but not here!#anyway where was I. Oh right. Ascart Sibs Autusm 👍🏼#Nicol doesn't have much presence in the story due to his quiet nature which is so sad because his inner world is intriguing#he's such a good friend. loyal and caring. I wish we got more of him in this season#and finally: Maria. God. what is there to say about her that I haven't already#the girl came in with a 7 year disadvantage on her rivals and yet Katarina is all over her!#rewatching season 1 is so weird because I could swear she had more presence than she really does because holy shit#Katarina loves her! so much! wtf#maybe I'm remembering season 2?#anyway these are my thoughts on doomflags season 1#2nd watch edition#oh I almost forgot#romance in chiaroscuro
