boy HOWDY have some THURSDAY NIGHT SCRIMBLES! 🥳 Now in magical TECHICOLOUR! It's older Twins! Fino and Fiera!

My god I'm having fun with these markers. But the colours are LIMITED as I only have like 2 starter sets and they're FUN but deffs I could use a few more in betweens.

Fino

Doing my boy first bc we already had fun with Older Fiera ages ago lmao

I'd been wanting to share his older design for AGES tbh! Had it in me head around the same time as I shared the older twins and Jacquie scribbles lol. ANYWAY

He is SEMI fancy! Big fan of button downs and vests/waistcoats!

Doesn't ALWAYS wear the vest

His shirts 9/10 times have funky patterns. Like fungi or flowers or just the weirdest fucking designs you EVER did see. His siblings and orc friend (Kenothy) all make it a fun game to find him the most OBNOXIOUSLY WEIRD SHIRTS. His collection is HUGE and VARIED and HURTS THE EYES FIFTY PERCENT OF THE TIME

he is like a walking mullet but the business is on top, the party is below. He is a jeans man through and through and you can pry his converse/kicks off his cold, dead feet tbh. they are ALWAYS red. he probably has like 10 pairs like some kinda cartoon character

belt is pink bc fiera's magic! the inside of his cloak is rainbow, like his twin's fire :D

the cloak also does have a big old hood and covers his whole him so he can look mysteriouse

and then give people whiplash when he whips the cloak back and pulls the hood down and. well. on fire colourful schemey looking young man

everyone's usually like "i didn't expect the freckles. or the fungi shirt"

the fungi shirt is his fave

when he uses his staff, the flame turns rainbow too and the snowflake glows :3

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Fino's warlock aesthetic is "i live in your local forest and i love my family and i'm making it everyone's problem"

the outside of the cloak is a nice forest green! bc he likes forests (if that wasn't obvious lol)

he's pretty chill but has resting plotting face. generally if he's looking like that he has examined every angle of a situation and is about to make a bigger one. or fix the current one. or both!! and is VERY proud of himself!!!! (as he SHOULD be!)

he and Fiera ARE the same height but I drew Fiera first and started Fino top down as you do but neglected to watch the height lol. so just know. they are BOTH tall and BOTH the same height!!!!

He is the BEST warlock of the current era he is warlocking in. If Uncle Pyros was around he'd be mad jealous. Same with Granny Frost tbh. Grandpa Winter would like, lift him up like Simba like "THAT'S MY GRANDBSON! THE BEST WARLOCK IN THE WHOLE WORLD!"

(if the bio grandparents were around, you bet it would be a big case of "the in-laws don't get along" lmao)

Fiera

pink is her fave colour and the colour of her magic, so her shirt, shoes, AND hair ribbons are all pink, but it's a lil light, innit? like i said, limited colours lol

suspenders are red bc FINO'S MAGIC! one is always hanging off of her, the other is always up. she doesn't do this on purpose it just HAPPENS bc she doesn't actually really need them? it's the FASHION. the STYLE.

sometimes hair ribbons are red too, bc Fino magic :3

ALSO wears converse but the boot like ones, bc I've always wanted a pair of boot converse! They look SOO COOL and SOO INCONVENIENT, AND THEY ARE COLOURFUL! I mean. Fiera's are pink but I'VE SEEN ALL THE COLOURS. AND I WANT.

I mean. why make OCs if not for them to wear the things you can't have/afford/pull off?

she's not THAT buff tho she is pretty strong. i am a writer by trade so my doodles are not to scale (read: scrimbly). anyway, she's probably usually a tank/halter top person??? this doodle just really wanted to be a t-shirt!

JANURWBY DAY TWO: Favourite songs

I couldn't choose one. I could barely choose three.

Caffeine: that song is utterly fucking ridiculous and I love it.

This life is mine: it was pretty close with path of isolation. I'm a sucker for all of her songs tbh. This life is mine is just my favourite because I love the episode, the scene is perfect, and the rock part at the end is beautiful.

Fear: genuinely my favourite rwby song. Hits different after the Volume 7 finale. Actually the entire finale hits different. The falling sequence coupled with the maiden sequence. Every bit of the finale as soon as Oscar enters the vault is perfection. Fear is a good song alone, but it's so much better after Volume 7.

Batfamily sorted into Hogwarts houses?

Ooohhhh a classic, I love it! Tbh I have no clue how controversial my opinions are here, like honestly each member fits several houses well. So I just went with what felt best to me, but I'd love to hear other's opinions!

First let's go over the main traits of each house, these are the traits I will be focusing on.

Gryffindor -> Bravery, daring, nerve, and confidence

Hufflepuff -> Hard work, dedication, patience, loyalty, and fair play

Ravenclaw -> Intelligence, knowledge, curiosity, creativity, and wit

Slytherin -> Ambition, leadership, determination, cunning, and resourcefulness

Bruce

-> Hufflepuff: I feel like this one will be rather controversial and honestly it was pretty difficult to decide on. But I think his overall dedication to the mission is what sold it for me. Like that's one of his more consistent character traits, he values the mission above all else. And I don't think of that value or dedication as coming from a place of ambition, but rather a place of loyalty. Honestly Batman's relationship with Gotham really exemplifies both patience and dedication, at least it does in my mind. Hufflepuff is also sometimes thought of as the house that accepts all, so people who don't have a good designation can go there, which is pretty on point with Bruce adopting a shit ton of kids.

Dick

-> Gryffindor: This one might be a tad cliche, but I think that it fits. Because all of the batfam is daring and brave, but Dick takes so much joy from these traits. He’s known for defying gravity and having fun doing it. He’s also the typical confident older brother, like he definitely has insecurities but overall he’s a pretty confident guy. He’s a leader who paved the way for Robins and continues to protect the rights of young heroes. He’s known for being super protective of his family and is willing to make sacrifices for them. Also he brave enough to design a custom that had no pants and confident enough to run around in that costume.

Babs

-> Ravenclaw: Babs the oracle, she’s basically the definition of knowledge. She definitely exemplifies other houses as well but her dedication to knowledge and intelligence definitely put her in Ravenclaw for me. After being paralyzed a lot of people thought she would give up being a vigilante, but instead she turned information into a weapon and a shield. Instead of giving up she created a new and now invaluable position. She isn’t just smart, she’s clever and quick thinking, always ready for any situation.

Jason

-> Hufflepuff: Okay, so in a lot of ways Jason mirrors Bruce. He’s incredibly loyal to his home, has strict rules that he (mostly) stands by like don’t hurt kids and no abusers get no mercy (and yes I’m using the terms rules loosely here). But honestly what sold the whole ‘Jason is hufflepuff’ thing for me is how protective/kind his is of crime victims, specifically women and children. He was a crime lord who fought to for kids, who didn't tolerate abuse, and who protected prostitutes. And yeah that's all super brave and very Gryffindor-esque, but in my mind it all comes from a place of genuine kindness, and that's what makes him a Hufflepuff to me.

Cass

-> Hufflepuff: Cass is deadly, she could snap just about anyone like a twig, but she's also a complete cinnamon roll. She's a sweetheart who adores her family and, for the most part, likes people. Cass is kind and sweet and she literally booped Batman on the nose. Like if that isn't the most Hufflepuff thing, than I don't know what is. She's just the epitome of 'soft cute Hufflepuff,' but also never forget that she can easily kill you.

Tim

-> Ravenclaw: In my opinion (and I think also canonically but I'm not 100% on that) Tim is the smartest bat. Tim literally outsmarted Ra's Al Ghul and he figured out Batman's identity when he was just a child. And he's not just 'I know a lot of things' smart, he's cunning and knows how to plan for any outcome, how to out wit others, how to lie to Batman. Like in the Red Robin arc his Tim's side quest is outsmarting the league of assassins and pissing off Ras Al Ghul. That's such a Ravenclaw (and baller) move.

Steph

-> Gryffindor: Steph had the nerve to put on a purple suit, she was daring enough to hit Robin with a brick, and she was brave enough to become Batgirl even after her encounter with Black Mask. She's bold and shameless in all the best ways. Like Steph isn't the greatest fighter or most skilled bat, but she's bold and fearless and that's what makes her such a great hero.

Duke

-> Slytherin: This one took me forever to decide on, but I realized that Duke has all the smarts of a Ravenclaw and all the bravery of a Gryffindor. Traits that both fit perfectly into Slytherin. He's cunning and smart and an amazing leader and so determined. Duke lead the 'We Are Robin' movement and made his life goal to out riddle the Riddler. Honestly he's the perfect mix of smart and brave and really exemplefies the best of the Slytherin traits.

Damian

-> Slytherin: This one is a bit lack luster and a bit typical, but I do think it's fitting. He's cunning and ambitious and really values his heritage. Damian knows his life goals, he knows where his heritage can take him, and he will do anything to reach his full potential. And I do think that he has some Hufflepuff undertones, undertones that come out even more around animals and Jon, but overall he is a Slytherin.

And wowie, I'm done. This took waaayyyyyy longer than expected, so sorry for that. Honestly when I saw this ask I was like 'oh, cool, easy!' then I tried to answer and holy shit. I went back and forth so much and could not decide. So after many days and much thought this is what I ended up with. That being said I did really love this ask bc it was super fun.

↠ the best at sweet talking :)) mirio is really smooth with it, and originality? 10/10. since it’s quite canon that MIRIO TOGATA IS A FLIRT, anyhow- it’s reserved for you and you only. lingering touches also count, like if you’re passing something to him, his hand will linger on yours for a little longer, before smiling at your reaction. also another killer at the ‘flirtatious’ eyes thing, if there’s anyone else that can nail it, and practically make your heart skip a beat, then it’s him alright.

↠ never ask him to flirt, just don’t. it’s kinda like izuku’s case but a lot worse. has to get talked into doing one of those cheesy pick up lines by mirio and nejire, but it never goes smoothly on command for him. anyway- on the brighter note, his touch subconsciously lingers a little bit more than usual, he doesn’t really notice it (don’t point that out please.) and he really likes feeding you in general, since his quirk heavily involves with food, it’s practically one of the few ways this shy boy can flirt.

↠ oh there’s a lot to say tbh. he’s definitely not shy/afraid of making sexual innuendos as a way of flirting, and his intense flirtatious stare is one of the many few ways he likes to show interest in you, if it would be intensely looking at your eyes with those intimidating cerulean eyes, or if it would be his eyes scanning over your figure and smirking. everything besides being not so pg, another way of him flirting is lingering touches. doesn’t care where or when, but you’ll catch him toying with your fingers.

OHH HEATWAVE 🥺🥺🥺 GOSHHH I LOVE HIM SOOO MUCH.

WELL... I never planned on watching Rescue Bots at all, because hey Starscream isn't a part of it, what's the point for me watching it tbh? I cannot get invested in a series unless if I'm able to get any F/Os out of it, and it'd be hard for me to get into any Transformers iteration unless if there's a Starscream...

...until I had a few mutuals tell me "hey, Steve Blum (TFP Starscream's VA) voices Heatwave, did you know that?" and I was like "um 😳😳 well I guess I can try one or two episodes..." and once he growled I was HOOKED

So it's safe to say uhh his voice, HIS VOICE is my favorite thing about him, but I feel like that'd be unfair to just compliment his voice. I wanna also compliment my favorite thing about his character, as a whole, which has to be his amazing leadership. He is very protective and isn't afraid to be like "hey, this is bullshit and I'm calling you out on it, I don't care if you have authority over me. We are NOT risking anyone getting hurt, no matter how big or small they are."

I also used to think "uhh, maybe Heatwave wouldn't like me, because i've always written my S/I to have Starscream as her main love interest?" and I was debating for a while that maybe I'd have to scrap my original plans; I normally write my self insert to already know about Cybertron, already know abt robots and how they function, because she's been in the TFP universe before. That was her first universe she fell into, and any universe afterward, she could jump/fall into and be like "oh! don't worry, I know your secret! it's safe with me!" and shoot her little cupid's arrow into anyone's spark. But then I thought, "maybe I can't do that, here. I think Heatwave would be really upset and not want to associate with me at all if he knew that I was very close with (and probably sparkbonded at this point) a decepticon like Starscream :(”

But as I kept watching the show, I noticed that even if Heatwave didn't particularly like or trust someone, once Optimus said "oh, I know them, and they are a good person, please be respectful" Heatwave does a COMPLETE 180 TURN and goes "hey, if Optimus likes you, that's good enough for me" so that made me love him EVEN MORE because he is willing to set aside his personal feelings and open his spark to trusting others. He's a very stubborn, hot-headed character, but he is also just so compassionate? and caring?? and I feel like if Optimus said "btw this is my Conjunx Keri. you may know her other Conjunx, Bumblebee. please do not be alarmed if you see her flirting with anyone dangerous, that is normal and honestly sometimes a useful distraction/battle tactic - you can definitely trust her" and the rescue squad is like "wait what was that last part??" "...you can trust her-" "NO UM. THAT OTHER LAST PART"

So if Optimus said "no you can completely trust this human" Heatwave is like "OH. Well. That's good enough for me. Even if I have no fucking clue why you'd wanna associate yourself with a bunch of Decepticons, do you not have any respect for yourself or something? You don't prioritize your own safety? That necklace Starscream gave you, you sure it's not a secret tracker? No chip in there to hear our secrets? You su- uh sorry - not my business, okay. Hi. I'm Heatwave."

And then we fall in love <3

OH ALSO before I close this out: i wanna say there was a specific part in one of the episodes where a human child was in danger, and he had to still pretend to be a robot "beep boop I have no emotion" and she was very scared while they were both trapped in a cave that was falling in on them (I think. I don't remember the details, it's been six months since I've seen the show) and he kept asking "do you need anything?" in his best emotionless-beep-boop-robot voice that he could muster. and he kept saying it's going to be okay. help is on the way. and he shielded her with his whole body and when she passed out he risked his own safety/secret by shouting "GUYS WE NEED HELP YOU NEED TO COME RIGHT NOW SHE'S LOSING OXYGEN"

...and I thought that was heartwarming that he will seriously put EVERYTHING on the line for humans. even his partner, who at first, he fucking hated. he hated living on earth, he hated the idea of serving humans that all treated him and his team like mindless machines, he couldn't stand it. he constantly asked optimus for different missions. he just wanted to go home, but there was no home anymore. he woke up one day and found out his planet was uninhabitable by a millions-years-long ongoing war. and he just had to accept it. he was willing to give up his life for these humans even when they were like "this is just a machine, who cares" he still went above and beyond and put in his whole 100000% for people. he is selfless and kind and amazing and I know that he'd be an amazing romantic partner too ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

One day you step up a little and give him a hug when he gets to your house

You paused the movie you were watching and turned to face him because you were sick of the lack of communication and said:

“Look I don’t want to seem like that person, but seriously--am I being annoying or something? I need to know, kuroo, it’s been weird the last couple hours and I can back off a little on the affection i just have to know-”

God this man blushed so red he was so mad at himself

He facepalmed a couple times and ran his hand through his hair and just said “no--no, please don’t. I was trying not to go too far with you being uncomfortable i should have just asked”

It was quiet for a second or two and you started laughing at each other and yourselves because you're both useless gays and it was just stupid and funny

Hearing your laugh made him smile, though, and he got these adorable heart eyes at you

“I love your laugh” he said without thinking, just letting his love-stuck mind carry his mouth (which usually ended up in random compliments like that)

You smile and lean in to peck his lips, but he catches you before you can pull away and pulls you in for a real kiss

When you’re done he kisses your forehead and says “so does this mean i can be clingy and hang off you like a child when im with you because i have been meaning to hug you more”

“Please do”

“Noted”

You laugh and turn the move back on, but this time he pulled you into his lap and laid with your back against his chest for the rest of the movie

His specialty is surprise hugs from behind cause he’ll grab you by the belt loops/hips if you don’t wear jeans and tug you into him and bury his face in your neck and it makes him smile because it’s you and you always make him smile

Hi here are some reasons ROTI is one of my favorite seasons:

Chris is a huge dick but it’s like balanced between how okay he was in s1/2 and how like murderous he was in s5/6 and it’s kinda funny!

The boat scene with gen 1 was mostly adorable

Jo is such a cool character, like she’s funny and interesting but has a lot of moral ambiguity and negative traits to balance it out. Her relationship with the maggot team, especially Cam and Brick, was entertaining to watch!

I know people think Zoke is bland but tbh I thought it was adorable. Like that nose boop where Mike goes “:D” in Grand Chef Auto. Also the fact he��ll do anything to save Zoey was great, and their conflicts had a healthy resolution in the end. Seeing Zoey accept him was awesome (even if it wasn’t tactful), and to me it felt like she became less judgmental after too, so mutual development. They aren’t the most intriguing separately but I’m a sucker for the “dorks for dorks” dynamic

Same with Samkota! I love how Sam got Dakota to feel more empathetic and how she motivated him, and they didn’t reject each other based on a difference in social standing. Also I just love both of them separately, Dakota’s so determined and lonely, and Sam is willing to befriend her and make anyone feel happier but also has less game motivation. Balance baby

Cameron and Mike had such a sweet friendship, the scene where Mike tries to save him and Zoey in the mine is *chef’s kiss*

Also: Cameron! I love him sm! His excitement at new experiences was great and I love how he overcame all the bullying he endured and won, and had the heart to split it! He isn’t perfect, he can definitely be socially clueless and he’s bad at keeping secrets, but he’s a good character!

Scott was such a good antagonist. He’s not a good person but he’s super clever, and his self-sabotage plans were pretty original. Guys he’s so smart

Lightning was both hilarious and sympathetic. Ik he was a jerk towards the end but I felt so bad for him bc of his dad, and him losing wasn’t good but I think it could’ve developed him and helped him learn to be less arrogant. Also he was kinda justified in being mad at Cameron, though not to the extent that he was

Staci was annoying but I think she had potential. Lying to get people to like you because you’re lonely but instead driving them away? Her growing and learning to build her own identity? Yes please!

Dawn and B’s friendship was great, also it was nice to see a mute character who wasn’t mysterious or unstable. B is smart and I love them. Also Dawn! I wish we could’ve seen more of her, she’s so noble and cool

Commando Zoey! That’s it that’s my input

Brick learning to be more assertive and getting booted for it hurt but in a good way

Anne Maria is funny and it broke my heart that she left so early, also her and Jo’s bickering is peak married couple content

Svetlana did nothing wrong we love Svetlana in this house

And all the other alters, but mostly Svetlana she just wants to save everyone and do flips she’s so funky

The monsters made the season feel newer and separate from 1-3, also Dakotazoid wasn’t exactly a good end for her arc buuuut I do love me some monster women who protect their friends

Mike and Zoey being movie nerds lives in my head rent free I love that for them

Zoey just wanted to make friends guys she doesn’t have much social experience I know she was judgy but she was trying her best and she wasn’t nearly as much of a Mary Sue as she was in all stars she’s great I love her

Okay I think that’s all rn but yea gen 2 is pogchamp

•I don’t think she would mind too much so long as you weren’t being disrespectful of her boundaries

•Raising her two younger siblings, she knows physical affection is important. It helps make people feel loved, and in some drastic cases, it’s a result of someone’s trauma. Whatever your reason is, she doesn’t mind. Unless it’s something bad like trauma, but let’s not get into that

•She’ll fall asleep on top of you when cuddling, which means more cuddles for you! Bring lots of pillows and blankets so you both can be cozy.

•During the winter she’s especially sleepy due to her frog instincts telling her to hibernate. Usually Soji carries her in a blanket, but she’ll let you hold her if it helps with your need for affection.

•She prefers giving hugs over kissing, but will occasionally peck you on the cheek if it helps.

•After learning this information, all she’ll really do is just cuddle sessions in private with you tbh. Not much else changed, but she tries to remember you’re touch starved, while also being aware that you’re shy and probably wouldn’t enjoy people staring at you when you’re both together

Himiko Toga

•Ahdiqifiwid it’s hard to imagine a fluffy scenario like this with her-

•I’m going to be real here. Toga is the worst person to have when you’re shy and touch starved.

•She’s super hyper and her mood can change at the flip of a coin. I wouldn’t blame you if you’re hesitant to tell her you want more affection.

•Weather you tell her on your own or she finds out herself, she will be smothering. She’s going to be all over you 24/7.

•Demands piggyback rides. Weather you carry her or she carries you, she wants to cling to you in some way shape or form.

•Don’t be surprised if she breaks into your room to sleep with you.

•The girl is crazy idk what you expected

•Sometimes if you’re both busy in a meeting with Shigaraki and she can’t hold you, she’ll begin to stare at you with a grin on her face. When you look her way. She’ll just boop your nose. No words will be spoken during this, and Shigaraki is just staring at you both like 😑

•If she keeps up this lovey dovey thing any longer Tomura and Dabi will both puke in your shoes.

Danganronpa

Mukuro

•Kinda like Asui but more….awkward

•She tries to be careful with you since she doesn’t know how to maintain a healthy relationship with someone (All thanks to none other then JUNKO FUCKING ENOSHIMA), and she’s scared she’ll hurt you. But now she handles you like glass

•She’ll shakily reach to hold your hand under the tables at lunch. Even if her hands weren’t shaking, you could tell she was nervous since she’ll have a red blush on her face.

•L o v e s being held by you and holding you. She can’t tell which one she prefers so it’s up to you what cuddle position you do. But she feels at ease with you in her arms.

•Always pulls you closer whenever you two are touching in some way. You two could have just intertwined fingers and slowly but surely, she dragged you right next to her.

•She gets less nervous with time, and becomes almost as affection hungry as you are.

•Mukuro doesn’t fall asleep during cuddle sessions. She worries something will happen and won’t be conscious to do anything, so if you’re asleep, then she’s awake and is guarding you like a hound.

Kaede

•The only one out of these four who has their shit together.

•While Tsuyu really only prefers cuddles, Toga being smothering, and Mukuro being hella awkward, Kaede isn’t bothers, and is a healthy balance of giving you space and also making sure you get a good daily dose of affection

•LOVES kissing your cheeks. She’ll do it whenever she can tbh

•Offers to have sleepovers with you so you can cuddle at night!

•She’ll let you sit with her as she plays piano in private as well. A very sweet date idea of hers

•Kokichi definitely teases you both, but if it ever looks like he’s targeting you, Kaede will NOT hesitate to throw hands.

•Like the others (except Toga) she’ll keep your more affectionate times private so you aren’t bothered by anyone (*COUGH* Kokichi *COUGH*)

•Will want to dance with you to some sort of romantic song on the piano, and will teach you to waltz.

•If Toga is the worst to have in this scenario, then Kaede is the best hands down.

living with edgar would consist of

once norton starts to warm up to you, you guys are basically married

like there was no proposal, just “do you take this man to be your husband- you can’t say no”

he would probably take care of you alot

but actually, before he warmed up to you he was pretty cold,

he felt himself growing feelings for you

and he didn’t want to because he was afraid he would lose you and he would have to go through the heartbreak of losing someone all over again

but there was this one time where you woke up with him around you, you just pretended you didn’t wake up and relished in the feeling

he also gets jealous super easily, he’s scared someone will swoop you away from him

so to make sure everyone knows that you belong to him, he’d give you his clothes to wear

not only do his clothes look adorable on you, everyone will know that you’re his

-Mino has a TON of knowledge about dysphoria, gender euphoria, all that jazz and is always sharing beeps knowledge to inform and educate! Beep knows very much and will tell you everything you need to know!

!!! 10 IMPORTANT TIPS FOR ALL BINDER USERS !!!

i. Wear it for about 8-10 hours a day AND NO MORE THAN THAT

ii. DO NOT SLEEP WITH A BINDER ON

iii. If the binder hurts in ANY WAY AT ALL, take it off immediately! Get a replacement if possible! Yes, it will be uncomfortable and that’s normal, but if it hurts, TAKE IT OFF

iv. If you want to exercise, wear a BIGGER binder (1 size up)

v. ALWAYS take several day breaks! Usually Saturdays and Sundays are best days!

vi. Can’t afford a binder? Sports bras work ALMOST just as well!

vii. NEVER EVER use tape or bandages to bind!!!! It will cause REALLY BAD DAMAGE TO YOUR RIB CAGE!

viii. When you’re binding, make sure your chest isn’t pressed downwards. Make sure the centre is actually facing the binder and not downwards

ix. ALWAYS READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR BINDER! The binder creators usually know how they work

x. If you ever have concerns about binding, SEARCH IT UP and GET EDUCATED BY PEOPLE WHO WEAR BINDERS!!

Fun fact, I don’t actually bind (makes me too physically uncomfortable tbh), but I do a lot of research on this sort of stuff, so yeah! Just a note, binders don’t work for EVERYONE! If you don’t feel good in a binder, don’t force yourself into one! Don’t feel the need to bind at all, you don’t have to! It’s your body and you decide what you want to do with it!

I'm honestly amazed how people can stay strong to their opinions despite all the negative people, antis and critics(not that bad, but still) going around the fandom.

It’s honestly not that bad (from my perspective, anyway) - nor is it that hard, honestly. I can’t speak for any social media site fandom wise except for tumblr, but TDP fandom on tumblr is overall beyond fantastic and one of the nicest fan communities I’ve ever seen. There were definitely antis on tumblr in the early days of the fandom (especially pre show) to the degree it was something I worried mildly about - I’d experienced harassment before as a teenager and seen it almost ruin other fandoms - but that quickly faded post-s1. I was scrolling through the early pages of this blog the other day out of curiosity and I couldn’t believe how many people from the first three months ish in the fandom just left even before season two came out, but who knows why, honestly. Sometimes people’s interests do just change!

Now, I do generally have pretty thick skin. I was somewhat in the ATLA fandom for 5+ years where every opinion I had was exceedingly unpopular (something the recent surge in 2020 has changed, thankfully) to the degree it would frustrate me. I had to be very picky about who I followed to try and find anyone like minded, or at least not super off the rails with how they were viewing canon and tagged appropriately. I was also in the Voltron fandom and had to very much sequester myself away with my mutuals in order to remotely have a good time, and even then I saw a lot of bullshit (a lot of particularly nasty ableist shit that was then unfortunately replicated in canon).

I’ve received whack ass fandom hate, such as “you hypocrite you hate [insert ship here].” Me, confused, looking at post I made talking about why said ship is fine or interesting only three days prior.

I have also been in classes of 40-60 people and been the only one presenting an opinion and have had people crap on it (the professor then gave a ten minute spiel on why my view was the theme of the course and the work we were studying, but I digress) because I don’t mind standing alone. That’s just kinda a part of life. People are not gonna agree with me all the time. It can be frustrating (or sometimes, a learning experience), but we all gotta deal with it.

So here are the tips for making it work:

1) Get used to blocking people. The block button is your absolute best friend. If someone posts a fandom opinion you’re really tired of seeing everywhere, even if it’s not bad per se, but just one you disagree with? You can block ‘em. Do it. There’s no shame in it - and I definitely have, like, all the time, for TDP, and for other fandoms. You can always change your mind later and unblock later, but there’s nothing like being preventive!

2) Unfollow religiously. Mutuals are fun, but tumblr romanticizes that sort of ‘relationship’ way too often, tbh. You should never feel pressure to follow people for any sort of reason. For example, there’s a lot of people on tumblr I really like, and I generally like their content a lot, that I don’t follow, cause they reblog a lot of something else I’m not interested in or don’t want to see (and don’t feel like / can’t blacklist for whatever reason). So I unfollow very easily and I go onto their blog or the main tags, search up whatever I’m interested in, and reblog from there.

3) You don’t have to engage with or listen to every opinion. This relates back to the other two, but you can just say “no thank you” and dip. For example in TDP, I see some people take a really critical stance with how the show treats dark magic. I think a lot of those takes are disingenuous (the show’s portrayal of dark magic, to me, gets more complicated as we go along, not less) but people are fully entitled to their opinion. I just don’t have to see it or engage with it. Cue block or unfollow button, boop!

4) You can’t care about what other people think. Not of you, not of characters, not of ships. Easier said than done, I know, especially when people will sometimes make a huge judgement on a very tiny thing, but it is the key. You can never control someone else or their opinion. That’s not to say don’t be considerate, or not to approach people in good faith - I have successfully changed people’s minds on the internet before (I’m up to 10, thank you very much), it is very possible. But those were people I thought could be open to having those sorts of discussions and I was fully prepared for it to go badly / not go my way. But I had to be able to not care if it didn’t go my way, and sometimes it didn’t.

And usually people who are extremely judgemental online all the time - repeatedly, constantly, about ships or story beats or anything and only seem to like one or two things from a source material - probably aren’t pretty happy. Cause they’re spending all their time either shaming people for things or trying to change other people’s minds. And if you spend all your time trying to convince other people of something and caring about how they do things, you’re not going to be happy. This is true for everyone.

This is not to say you can’t consider other people’s viewpoints (especially privately), either. For example, I read some of the critiques with dark magic, thought it over, tried to think about it more objectively / see where those interpretations were coming from, and still went, “Nah, not for me, I don’t agree” and blocked whoever I needed to. Cause consideration doesn’t equal engagement and that’s more than alright.

No one has power over you that you don’t give them, especially in an online space like this. Curate what content you see, block profusely, unfollow when you need to, and make sure that your fandom experience is first and foremost what you want and curate it for yourself.

It will be much brighter that way, I promise.
