i really liked your pjo headcannons post. i thought it was interesting, since most people always put physical touch as some of the main ll for the characters, esp leo n percy. do u have any other headcanons for either of them? it can be generic things, like what they would do with a s/o, or it can be weird shit idc? i swear ive read lit every single post to exist on tumblr n i need more
Oh my god thank you so much! This is so sweet. I'm surprised my first ever post is doing as well as it is. I expected to pass as pretty unnoticed in the beginning. I do have a lot of headcanons for the characters, but I'm going to do Leo in this one since he's my absolute favourite
Note: I haven't read the HOO books in a while, but I just finished my reread of PJO, so if any 'headcanon' is actually canon, please just pretend that I'm Uncle Rick himself.
Warnings: none
Leo Valdez Headcanons - loves sweet&spicy. If that's an option in the menu at the restaurant he went to, he will absolutely get it. He's kind of obsessed with it to the point where one might get worried about his taste buds
- if he had to choose between sweet and sour, he would absolutely pick sweet any day. That's not really the best considering he's very ADHD, even for a demigod and his intake of sugar doesn't really help much, but he just loves sweet. He doesn't care if it's chocolate-type sweet or sugar-sweet, he just likes it. You can bet that when he comes out of Bunker 9 after a long day, his tongue would be all types of colours because his 'meal' for the day was whatever candy was in his stash of sweets
- now if you made the choice between sweet, sour and spicy, he would struggle to pick
- he hates coffee. he's simply not a coffee guy. he thinks it tastes nasty, since we established he loves anything sweet and coffee is definitely not sweet. and he doesn't need it anyway, he's hyper as is. if anything, coffee makes him more tired
- i feel like he would get pretty into anime if he tried watching it. from the trending shonen, chainsaw man would be his fave, but in general he would be such a fan of one piece imo. he is that person who has unironically watched the whole thing like three times - he feels guilty when he isn't doing something productive since he feels this need to constantly be creating something, but he also loves to just get distracted by something and do his own thing for hours, even if there's no 'productive' outcome. so he 'wastes' his time and feels guilty the entire time, but the enjoyment he gets out of it evens out the guilt (what do you mean i'm not projecting on my favourite character... at all...)
- secretly a good singer. piper once caught him singing in the shower and then dragged him out and forced him to sing out loud because she was not expecting such an angelic voice to come out of him
- his go to karaoke song is 'cake by the ocean' by dnce
- i feel like he would learn how to play the guitar and he will be shockingly good at it. like he learns a song so fast and because his fingers are always doing something and tinkering with things, this is the perfect way for him to get his energy out while also having lots of fun
- i also feel like he would purposefully not tell anyone he learned the guitar and one day he just whips out this new talent of his and everyone's like '????'
- honestly, leo is just good at everything. if he wasn't a hephaestus kid, he would be a son of hermes, because he is such a jack of all trades. he is incredibly intelligent (which is canon, btw, and if it's not yes it fucking is have you seen the guy, he is borderline as smart as Annabeth, if not smarter, just in another flavour), but also anything he attempts to do, he succeeds in. he can draw, he can play the guitar, he can sing, he absolutely is a great dancer. you would expect he sucks at cooking but nope, there he goes, making a gourmet meal like it's nothing. he isn't much of a fighter, but if he needs to hold his ground, he can. he's just so versatile, you can barely catch him off guard with something he can't master in a few hours
I fucking love Leo, can you notice this from my post?? Anyway, I got too lazy to edit this after I wrote it, so if it's not grammatically perfect or things don't make sense, apologies and please let me know. I will post more headcanons because I frankly have too many. And a lot of AU ideas. I'm preparing one rn actually so... stay tuned? Maybe follow if you're interested in seeing more shit by me. - mia

10 Thrifting tips the thrilling continuation
I am a dedicated thrifter and I have done a few thrifting tips posts, things to look for, how to find the best stuff. I had an excellent day thrifting today and decided it was a good day to polish up a draft I had and post it. So read more for tips to get the goodies.
If you buy fairly plain wooden furniture, it doesn’t take a whole lot of expertise to refinish it. You can get a cheap palm sander for less than 50 bucks, and a small tin of furniture wax goes a long, long, loooong way. Or you can get Danish oil if you want a satin finish or Teak oil for a gloss finish. Don’t let Youtube videos make you believe you have to test out 10 zillion different coloured stains unless you are aiming for a very specific look. Just make sure you slap something nourishing on the wood after you’ve sanded it. Also remember that whatever product you use; multiple light coats will come out better than one thick coat. There’s a huge amount of satisfaction in looking at a gorgeous chunk of wood you’ve bought back to life.
French milled/triple milled soap. Old ladies like to give soap as gifts and people tend to stick it in their drawer to scent their clothes and never actually use it, eventually they have a clean out and this unused soap goes to the thrift store still in it’s original paper wrapping. This soap is expensive. This soap is fantastic. The milling process creates a very different product than the bars you get at the supermarket. It doesn’t go goopy and melty even if you leave it sitting in a puddle in your shower, it’s not as drying to your skin, the scent stays on your skin for longer. These bars last for months, it’s well worth picking them up if you like the scent.
Blue Willow. Would you like to have a nice set of china but don’t want to drop a lot of money on something that might look dated in 10 years? Collect blue willow from thrift stores. Blue willow has been around for hundreds of years and it’s going to be around for hundreds more. It can be slotted in to almost any home style, classical, boho, maximalist, scandi, etc, etc. Because it’s been around for so long pretty much every manufacturer has done it, so you find it really often at thrift stores and it’s easy to pick up a couple of plates here and a serving bowl there. Also, because so many companies have done it over such a long period it’s possible to pick up modern dishwasher safe dinner plates that you can use alongside a lovely 100-year-old antique gravy boat.
Gifts. Never feel ashamed of buying gifts from thrift stores. The perfect vintage item is way more meaningful than any amount of new stuff. And if you’re buying for someone who doesn’t like vintage; if something looks new and undamaged how is the recipient going to know that it’s not new?
Get yourself a thrifting routine. You’re gonna find the best stuff if you go often so don’t just randomly go every now and then. People who say they never find anything are the ones who only call into a thrift store every couple of months and expect something amazing to just drop into their lap. Set a day once a week, or every other week or once a month, but make a commitment to go on a regular basis.
If you see something that you think you like but you’re not 100% sure, as long as you can afford it and have a place for it, get the thing. Take it home, live with it. Maybe you’ll decide you don’t really like it and take it back to the thrift store and consider the price you paid a charitable donation. But sometimes you bring something home that you kinda like and end up absolutely loving it. Some of my favourite things in my house are things I wasn’t completely sure about when I was in the thrift store. There’s nothing worse than the regret of leaving something behind because you weren’t sure about it, then deciding actually I do want that thing, but it’s gone, and you’ll never find another quite like it.
If possible, go with someone who knows your likes/tastes. It’s amazing the number of times I’ve been in a thrift store with my mother or best friend, and they’ve found something I love that I hadn’t even noticed. Plus they’ll be dirty rotten enablers and encourage you to buy the thing that you love but you’re not sure you can justify to yourself.
There are a bunch of Youtubers who do thrift flips. If there’s some décor item that’s in all the stores at the moment and you love it, but can’t justify spending money on it, then it might be worth looking up to see if anyone has done a thrift flip and can give you a tutorial on how to turn a thrifted item into the hot décor items of your dreams.
Keep the cycle going. If you have stuff in your home that you no longer use/love, then donate it. If you’ve traded up and found something better but your original thing still has life in it, donate. Even if you originally bought something from a thrift store no one is gonna be mad if you send it right on back (unless you’ve used it to death, and it really should be heading for landfill).
Don’t put yourself in a box. Don’t refuse to get something because it’s not ‘your style’. What is ‘your style’? Things that you love, that make you happy. Do you love this thing? Does it make you smile? Then it’s your style. Honestly style is something that evolves organically, that grows and expands as we’re exposed to new things. If you try to follow a certain style rigidly then you’ll end up with a home that looks boring and cookie-cutter. Throw in something unexpected that speaks to you. Then throw in another of those things and another and another and pretty soon you’ll end up with a home that actually is your style – maybe you just don’t know what your style really is yet. I think of myself as very confident in my style, but I’m constantly stumbling across new things that I didn’t know I needed in my life.

Homecooking [March ed]
Hiiiiii~
Rolling into spring with some spring rolls xD sorry, that was bad :P
Nothing much this month, I would say. Weather getting warmer. Sun out for longer. .. etc. I did a sketch of my favourite short tracker this season: Kim Gun Woo of Korea. I am watching a Kdrama called The Impossible Heir. Started strong, I caught up . .. & then the female lead kinda got on my nerves. I'm not familiar with her acting profile; however, I'm not sure how she got casted for this role. Were there no other options?! Anyway, you watch for yourself (& maybe let me know!).
Tumblr media
I ate out several times this month as well. In fact, I've eaten out the most number of times this month since the pandemic lol it's an achievement. Will work on those posts after this one! But for now. ..
Tumblr media
The carbonara Samyang spicy chicken noodles WITHOUT the spicy chicken sauce. I've added some baby bokchoy, tofu & kimchi with it.
Tumblr media
Kimchi pancake- I'm trying diff batters. This one was unsuccessful so I won't share. It was so. .. 'hard' =/
Tumblr media
Homemade wontons with noodles & baby bokchoy.
Tumblr media
Yes. .. more bokchoy -.-" this was thick rice noodles with hot pot fatty beef slices. Threw in some soup seaweed as well.
Tumblr media
Pasta - for dinner, then leftovers for lunch the next day.
Tumblr media
Also the carbonara Samyang spicy chicken noodles but without the sauce xD I keep the sauce for hotpots & stuff now.
Tumblr media
Bro made fried chicken using a new batter recipe. It was alright.
Tumblr media
"A little bit of everything" rice noodles - bean curd, bokchoy, napa cabbage (it's so pale in colour that you can't even see it), soup seaweed, kimchi, chicken. .. in a deonjang jjigae base.
Tumblr media
Yeah I know, it's expired but it was still good. I smelled it haha I ate the Korean franchise congee recently ("Bon-juk" brand) & I was inspired to create something similar. I used this expired soybean paste soup sauce with another Hmart product that I've eaten before, instant vegetable-flavoured congee, & cooked the two together!
Tumblr media
& it became this ^ soybean paste congee. It was actually very good! I had a little taste test while cooking it & it was way too salty (the instant congee pack is seasoned) so I added regular rice to it & more water . .. I essentially diluted out the contents. Ended up with way too much product lol oh well, leftovers, right? This was super successful. I would recommend it, especially if you wanna make a bigger batch & save some for later or if you are feeding 3-4 ppl.
That's all~ Bye byeeee~~
PS: I visited the Stanley A Milner (downtown) library for the 1st time since the renos were finished. I don't exactly know when the renos were done as I don't travel to that area often. ..
Tumblr media
The atrium area between 2nd and 3rd level, feat. my nieces.
Tumblr media
The facility was actually really nice! I remember spending time here when I was in high school . .. it was sooooo dim & the place was so old-looking. The most amount of time I was here was during extended essay writing period.. . had to read, write notes, & cite references for my paper, which was on Sun Yat-sen lol I don't recall the title of my paper anymore...been too long! But yeah. The library is very good-looking, with some really cool areas. The crowd. .. ughhh.. There was a strong security presence, which was good, I guess, but the amount of questionable ppl was also abundant. Sometimes I wonder if having a security gate/bag xray machine at the door would be a good idea. Of course, I acknowledge the fact that it's a "public" library but I also think measures should be taken to make all members of the public feel safe. Then again, if such measure was applied to a library, malls should get it too? *shrugs* Let's just say the facility was upgraded BIG time but the population hasn't changed.
Off I go to work on other things now :P seeeee ya!

[CN] ASMR Transcript - Devotion (Gavin)
🍒 Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for an ASMR, 以身相试, which has not been released in EN! 🍒
Tumblr media
[ Released in CN: 24 July 2022 ]
[On the phone] Today won’t do.
[On the phone] She’ll be back today.
[On the phone] I have to tidy the place up.
[On the phone] What do you mean by, “Forgetting loyalty when in love?”
Why are you already back home?
[On the phone] Okay okay, that’s all. I’m hanging up.
[On the phone] Ask Luke and Tang Chao to go.
Nothing much.
Eli brought a huge pile of local products from his hometown again,
And invited everyone out for a meal at his place.
I’m not going.
He just wants to have a lively time with others.
There’s not much of a difference without me around.
[rustling noises]
Also...
Aren’t you back now?
I only want to have a lively time with you.
It’s equally lively with two people.
[rustling noises]
Oh yes.
Didn’t you mention that
There’s an evening banquet after the Fashion Week?
Why did you come back beforehand?
I was going to pick you up.
You had a free ride?
From a male or female?
...oh, from Eason.
[Trivia] Eason (aka Chen Yi in CN) is MC’s schoolmate from college. He was introduced in Obsession Date!
Cough. I’m not jealous.
I was just asking.
Maybe a little bit.
Just a little.
If there’s a change in your itinerary next time,
Let me know, mm?
It’s mainly because I can tidy up a little in advance.
When you weren’t at home,
I became lazy.
I still remembered to take care of Greenie Jr. Jr. Jr. though.
But I might not have taken that much care of myself.
If you don’t believe me, touch me.
[touching noises]
See?
I lost weight.
Hm?
[chuckles] I wanted you to feel sorry for me.
Can’t I do that?
My waist is fine. It isn’t skinnier.
Here, feel for yourself.
[Gavin breathing noises]
Why are you measuring it?
You bought me new clothes?
All of these on the bed?
There’s way too many...
Why’d you suddenly buy so many for me?
[sigh] I guess...
It’s the charm of Fashion Week...
The styles of these clothes might not suit me.
You’re asking how I bought clothes previously?
Hm... the STF distributes spring and autumn uniforms.
As for ordinary shirts...
I buy them randomly.
They’re fine as long as they’re comfortable.
Mm, I usually visit the same few shops.
And finish buying them after a few minutes.
...a waste?
Okay okay okay, there’s no hurry.
I’ll try them on now.
[rustling noises]
I could use some new clothes in my wardrobe,
Even though I can only wear uniforms when I go on missions.
Hm? I look very handsome in uniforms?
I guess so...
I think it’s mainly because of the person himself. [chuckles]
This shirt...
I don’t think I’ve tried this colour before.
Hmm. What about the jacket? Which one should I pair it with?
A belt too?
This...
How do I buckle it?
[rustling noises]
This outfit is too troublesome.
When I wear it next time, I’ll have to wait for you to be at home to put it on for me.
[clothing noises]
Learn how to buckle it myself?
I don’t want to.
[kiss]
There are some things... that I only want you to do.
How is it?
I think it’s pretty good too. Should I change into the next outfit?
[unclothing noises + unnecessary but very welcomed Gavin grunts]
This one?
Clothing designs are becoming weirder and weirder these days...
How am I supposed to wear this?
I’ll put the sleeves on first.
Oh, I get it now.
Like this.
Eh? It looks strange.
But when it’s worn, it looks pretty good.
Mm, your taste has always been pretty good.
Of course I know that.
But why does it seem like there are only half of the patterns on this outfit?
It’s a couple outfit?
So... where’s yours?
[rustling noises]
Hmm... Why don’t you put it on so we can see what it looks like?
I can’t be the only one trying on clothes for the whole day. Mm.
[rustling noises + heartbeat noises + GAVIN BREATHING NOISES]
Very pretty.
It’s also very unique.
It does come as a set with mine.
[footsteps]
A perfect match.
I was only talking about myself earlier.
But haven't you lost weight too?
I measured with my eyes earlier.
Now that I’m using my hands, I’m even more certain...
Once we’re done tidying up,
Let’s have a nice meal together.
Mm.
[kiss + kiss]
We’ll go later.
Right now, there’s something else we have to do.
[rustling + GAVIN HEAVY BREATHING NOISES]
Oh yes.
If the new clothes get crumpled,
Does it mean they can’t be returned?
[ GAVIN NOISES ]
Let’s not return them then.
I’m very satisfied.

Ripping it up and starting again with Depeche Mode
A version of this post existed a month ago already. It was supposed to be a piece more in the vein of the Lou X one, but I decided not to post it because it was really bad from a moral standpoint. So back to the drawing board we go. Which is very funny to me because Depeche Mode's career seems entirely based on that, trial-and-error, or more exactly successive approximations. Vince Clarke leaves them, they start from square one again with Martin Gore as lead songwriter. Alan Wilder leaves them, they start kind-of-sort-of where they left off. Andy Fletcher dies, they finish up the record and it's actually good, which surprises many, myself included. Andy Fletcher's death, as terrible as it is to say out loud, was that extra push I needed to actually get my ass onto Depeche Mode for real and not just as vestigial remains of something my mom told me once when I was like five.
Rationally, I kind of just thought Depeche Mode were some run-of-the-mill synthpop band who nailed a couple songs here and there, and depending who you ask that might even be the case, so when I was 16 my initial reaction was something along the lines of "okay so aesthetically they're slightly edgier than Talk Talk, aka the renowned and incontestable pinnacle of '80s synthpop, that's cute, anyway back to The Colour of Spring" which in retrospect makes me want to slap myself across the face. And it's definitely not Talk Talk's fault, believe me, not one bad record except maybe The Party's Over but y'know, growing pains! The one thing I'll allow artists, but not myself. Until at one point my mom goes "hey, can you make me a CD for the car? I want Stairway to Heaven in it." For reference, my mom basically had no clue who the fuck Led Zeppelin were until my old band decided we actually were crazy enough to try playing Stairway to Heaven to an actual human audience — and for some reason my mom liked our version better. Damn, being sixteen and vaguely cute really lets you get away with some crazy shit. But yeah, I had seven minutes filled, alright - what do I fill the CD with? I knew that my mom is, usually, more aligned to my music tastes than my dad is (I think I actually showed my mom '90s Swans and System of a Down on two separate occasions, somehow not getting consequently, uh, retroactively aborted) and I knew my mom liked bands like Duran Duran and Depeche Mode back in the '80s, so what the fuck, let's google "depeche mode" and see what pulls up.
Take a wild guess what pulled up.
youtube
And ironically, even that didn't entirely stick the landing. I had this whole ass conversation with my friend R. about how Depeche Mode's production decisions were dated "but like in an iconic way and unintrusive" or some backwards ass shit, I don't even know, I guess I was trying to justify myself for not liking a fucking record as much as I expected (????) and into the mnemonic toilet it went. Until March 2023 rolls along and at A.'s birthday, on the Bluetooth boombox that A. never separates from, this plays:
And it was, again, cute, right. It's dated in a very endearing way that makes it somewhat compelling. And so was Strangelove, which for some reason felt like a natural next step to take from there, but nothing else came of it. I never went out and listened to the singles, minus some of the ones I'd known as a kid: in case you're wondering, they were Peace and Blasphemous Rumours, which are definitely not babby's first Depeche Mode songs. For some reason I still couldn't cut the same slack I'd been cutting for — again — Talk Talk, whom I still love dearly. Maybe it was just a question of time, or simply of just learning to get along with the fact that things age. For some reason it took me a good five to seven years to actually realize that, god damn!, I'd never listened to a full Depeche Mode album before. So since I'm a smartass and it has an edgy title, I started out on Black Celebration and it's good, don't get me wrong, but definitely not the best possible starting point for Depeche Mode I think? If you're looking for veritable bangers front-to-back maybe go for Violator, or Songs of Faith and Devotion if you're feeling like some extra zest. But whatever, I don't know what the fuck happened that day in the car. Anyway that's how I came across my favourite Depeche Mode song, which on my worst days still gets me if it catches me off guard.
youtube
youtube
And that's what made it click, for some fucking reason. Real talk — it barely gets any more stereotypically '80s than the single mix of this song, and yet here I am bopping my shit to the beat, genuinely rocked to my socks and in a frenzy. Add to that this interesting conversation I had with this friend of A.'s, a Russian girl who immediately charmed me with her wits and unique makeup game (on a different occasion she referred to a Soviet-era children's TV show called Приключения Буратино — "priklyucheniya Buratino", which translates to "The adventures of Buratino" — as a major inspiration point for her aesthetic choices). For a very peculiar coincidence, it turned out that most of the people at the party were of Eastern European descent to some degree, and when A Question of Time played literally every single one of these people popped up saying "damn, my mom loved Depeche Mode" and this here girl I was talking about told me that back in the '90s, I'm talking immediate post-USSR years, her mom once got detention because on a school trip to Belarus she skipped class to go buy Depeche Mode posters at a newspaper stand. So since I'm very normal about this kinda stuff, I obviously went back home and googled "depeche mode russia", which led me to this here Dazed article which in turn led me to depeche.ru, a small miracle of a Web 2.0 time capsule where a treasure trove of pictures taken by Russian and Eastern European fans of Depeche Mode from the mid-'80s all the way to 2006 — last update of the site so far.
youtube
The beautiful thing about Depeche Mode is exactly this: the fact that they aren't afraid of being endearing and even vulnerable to an extent. It's hard to think of a rock act as big as Depeche Mode are that's able to pull that stuff with aplomb: Springsteen, maybe? I'm not expecting Metallica, Green Day or Kid Rock to ever put out anything that competes with Nebraska — or even Born to Run, just to be fair to everyone involved. And it cracks me the fuck up that someone would think that Springsteen is anywhere close to the hard-rock-minded hard-headed bastard that his fans on average are: which admittedly is a very wooden and unfortunate way of tying together Depeche Mode and Springsteen, but they were for me. Nebraska and Songs of Faith and Devotion came to me almost simultaneously, as the result of a musical discovery that saw me navigating a moment of true crisis, a moment where once again the answer was: ignore the noise. Rip it up and start again. And that third verse on Atlantic City very gracefully paired up with a track like Walking in My Shoes because they are unapologetic in their presentation, direct and deceptively raw — all qualities that all rockers like to pretend they have, but that very few people are able to properly handle, let alone effectively weaponise. They hide nothing, and yet find a specific, unique perspective on feelings that at some point bite any and everyone of us. It's insane to me that the most blue-collar of all the classic rockers, the one guy who never really lost touch with what he represents and stands for, and what some people still derogatorily refer to as "a synthpop band" managed to stumble upon such similarly expressive aesthetic markers at similarly crucial moments in their respective careers. And both things mean the world to all fans involved, because they remain in touch, they know themselves and who's coming to the shows — which warrants a constant stream of new people. "What you see is what you get" is not about repetitiveness: like it was meant to be for Sonic the Hedgehog, it may be a statement of intent and transparency, something simultaneously simpler and deeper than shallowness can ever allow for.
youtube
(On an unrelated note, I would literally kill for Springsteen's Butterscotch Blonde Telecaster, and while I perfectly know that's the most basic possible Telecaster color and literally any other American-made Butterscotch Blonde Fender Telecaster would potentially have the same aesthetic and practical functions as Springsteen's, it's a bit like that Borges story where he meets himself but forty years younger: sure, it's the same, but ever so slightly different in a way that feels a bit uncomfortable or counterfeit. Telecasters are great guitars. Rationally speaking if I had the money I would probably go with something with humbuckers on, but fuck me, that twang is something else.)
Necessarily, this entails the ability to pick up the pieces no matter what gets thrown your way, and rearrange them at the best of your abilities. And it's hard. Legitimately speaking, I don't think neither of the parties involved (including, possibly as the biggest offender, Sonic the Hedgehog) really did it every single time. But putting away our necessarily partial perspective as listeners who are not in the band, does it ultimately matter? Martin Gore's divorce produced a track like Precious, which in the context of any other band would probably have been met with some backlash of the "they've-gone-soft" variety; and yet Playing the Angel is widely regarded as one of their late-era records, because the ability to honestly process emotion was always part of Depeche Mode's vocabulary and tricks of the trade. It's what makes a song like The Things You Said fly, especially in the 101 concert movie. During the film, there's an extreme close-up on a kid with puffy cheeks, messy bangs, clear eyes and a tooth gap singing the most teenaged fucking bullshit ever and still, it flies, because Martin Gore's lyricism — while maybe not as elaborate as Tom Waits*', sure — hits the spot. It's not its simplicity as much as it is some form of universality, perhaps.
youtube
Case in point: the latest Depeche Mode record, which came out in March 2023, is called Memento Mori, and apparently the title was chosen before Andy Fletcher's untimely passing. There's a song on it called Always You and it's a very passionate and heartfelt elegy to passing time, and a paean to things that stay. It's easy to think it's a love song of sorts: it literally says "my love" as a constant refrain in verses, so I guess it is, what the fuck can I say guys?, but there are many things that you can love, and many ways that you can love. It doesn't try to be "hip" and "cool", it doesn't sound old-man-yells-at-cloud contrived, it does its thing and gives no fucks and as such it sticks the landing. A little honesty and conviction go a really long way.
youtube
*If there had to be a third act with irremovable cred, that's absolutely my man Tom Waits, but that gets a bit more on the intellectual side of things and requires a little bit of irony and suspension of disbelief I'd argue. He deserves his own post, in short.

大家好! My third attempt at plant-based protein was better - breakfast was yong tau foo and boy was there a wider variety of options. Goodness in this bowl: tofu, fu pi (tofu skin), carrot, brinjal, broccoli and tomato along with thick bee hoon (rice vermicelli). To complete the meal: freshly squeezed unsweetened green apple juice. Full disclosure: the tofu and fu pi had a thin layer of fish paste as a filling; apart from that, this meal comprised of mainly plants - also, why do I feel as though I'm eating like a giraffe when the food tastes so delicious?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took Pa to a popular vegetarian restaurant when he joined me for a plant-based meal. He chose crispy beancurd skin with sesame rice bento, which came with braised mushrooms and firm tofu and achar (pickled veggies); I had noodles topped with carrot and lettuce and soup which came with tomato, fu pi, konnyaku 'prawns', baby nai bai (similar to baby bak choy), shiitake, enoki and shimeji mushrooms, as well as Napa cabbage. We shared a trio of shiitake, enoki and shimeji mushrooms as well as carrot braised with Angelica herb. Everything was so darned delicious, we agreed to return! Finally, to wash it all down, unsweetened freshly squeezed orange juice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back to mammal protein, it's been ages since I had fen si (glass vermicelli), so I ordered some and the stall helper piled a heaping portion onto my plate. Along with my carbohydrates, I had steamed fish, stirfried beansprouts with carrot and stirfried okra. The fen si was so tasty, I finished everything! Washing everything down with refreshing freshly squeezed unsweetened guava juice, I reflected on the recent addition of plant-based protein to my meals. To be frank, I enjoyed the experience and don't mind eating more of it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
youtube
I had a unique pork ball along with my stirfried bee hoon (rice vermicelli), bitter gourd and hairy gourd (meals just look more appetising when there's colour). It was handmade with minced pork, but there was also minced onion, carrot and even red chilli in it. I wished I'd ordered 2 instead of 1 because it was so yummy! The stall was generous with veggie portions, so the meal was very filling. To end the meal: hot tea.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
Encouraged by the better plant-based protein results this time around, I'll continue searching for dining out options before moving onto how to include more plant-based protein for meals at home. Not only do tofu and tofu products taste good, I felt physically better and had more energy after eating them. They pair amazingly well with soup noodles and a ton of veggies too! I just wish there're better vegetarian options; it's hard to find tofu soup noodles unless I go to a vegan/vegetarian cafe/restaurant or have yong tau foo, OR, I may just need to look harder. 下次见!

Link : Then, let’s have a toast.

Link : Let's see, should we finish our wine with our arms crossed over each other next?

Remembering the performance instructions, I crossed my arm with wine glass in hand over Link’s arm.
Link : Huh!

Link : If we don’t get close enough, we’re going to spill our drinks.
Emma : Hm, mhmm.
I managed to keep a smile on my face, despite my nervousness because of our in-between distance where I could feel his warmth.
Staff : The cake, it’s ready! Please proceed!
Link : The sauce will be poured on top of it, I’m guessing it’s the final move to complete the wedding cake.
Emma : Yeah. It’s a popular production these days. It’s interesting.
Next shot coming up, the coloured-drip cake.
As a collaboration between the bride and the groom, the two of them held the pitcher poured the strawberry sauce on top of the cake.

Emma : Woah, I’m wasn't ready for this yet……

Emma : Of course, we’ll do it according to the bride and groom’s wishes.
Link : ……!
Link : Actually, I was thinking of that too.
Emma : ……! Really?
Link : It’s just that I find it inconvenient to carry a lot of streaming equipments and move around while simultaneously filming and working for the production team—
Link : I couldn’t handle all of those jobs alone, so I gave up thinking about it.
Emma : Let me help you.
Emma : If you’re still short of staffs, why don’t you ask Lagoon-san for help?
Link : …You’re right. You and everybody else are going to be there anyway.

Something about semolina
Semolina is a name for coarsely milled durum wheat, and as such contains a lot of gluten. This food should not be consumed if you have a gluten intolerance, have an allergy to gluten, or are celiac.
Semolina (gris/griz/Grieß) is an amazing and versatile type of porridge, that is also very cheap and full of protein. It's been around for ages, and has fed many people from a very young age. This article will bring you lots of lazy ideas and recipes that really don't require much preparation, but will fill your stomach for very little money. The very first poverty recipe on this site, with hopefully many more to come.
The Price of Comfort
While mac'n'cheese hold the title of the comfort food, it is not the case in many countries, and it is not a very healthy option considering the amount of sodium it contains. Semolina, when prepared as will be discussed, is a warm meal that delivers childhood comfort nostalgia straight into your nervous system.
Semolina flour prices seem to vary a lot depending on the country, with the range being between 1 euro per 1 kilogram, to 10 dollars per 24oz, but considering how simple the recipe is and how little you will use for each meal, it's one of the cheapest things to buy in the long run. Definitely worth keeping it in stock for rainy days.
How to make it?
It is a poverty recipe, but also a depression recipe, due to it's simplicity. You have to eat, no matter what you're going through at the moment.
Pick your favourite bowl
Preferably with a lovely pattern or an animal on it. A bowl with pastel colours works well, too.
Pour milk into the bowl
The amount will depend on your appetite and the size of the bowl, and will be about the same as the finished product.
Take the bowl and pour out the milk into a pot that is on the stove
The heat should be medium, to prevent the milk from burning.
Leave the milk in the pot until it gets a little bit too warm for comfort
Check with your finger or have a taste with your spoon.
Once the milk is warm enough, mix in 1 or 2 spoons of semolina flour into the milk
Depending on the amount of milk, you can even go with 3 spoons if you wish to have a very thick meal.
Stand there and stir the mixture until it's thick
Use this time to contemplate your life and cringe at that silly thing you did 6 years ago.
That's literally it.
What about taste?
On it's own, semolina meal tastes quite neutral and bland, which lends to many options to making it actually good and heart-warming. Here are some ideas and variations!
Milk - taste will vary depending on it
Cow milk
Goat milk
Lactose-free milk
Oat milk
Almond milk
About anything that has milk properties, really
Add some flavour
Honey
Nutella
Cocoa powder
Wild berries
Nuts
Sugar
Vanilla sugar
Müsli
Corn flakes
Rice puffs
Granola mix
You can add almost anything to a semolina meal. Have fun and mix in your favourite things!
Last words
People across the world use semolina flour for all kinds of crazy meals, from sweet pancakes, cakes and cookies, to savoury tortillas. The recipe above is an easy one, for those rainy Sundays, or rainy weeks. You can eat it fresh from the stove, or leave it to cool down and have a more pudding-like consistency. Up to your preferences!
Hope you enjoy this lovely meal!

Many of the items you'll find are probably not quite what you're looking for, but usually all they need is a minor tweak to make them ideal for your space!
Selling items with your friends is a fantastic way to get rid of things you don't need while receiving new items in return. You may even use this as the basis for another get-together event.

Hospitality Housekeeping List: What You Need For your FIFA Guests
Qatar is hosting the most popular sporting event on the planet – the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The event is a huge one and the inflow of tourists will benefit the hospitality industry greatly. It has been estimated that over one million visitors will visit Qatar for the World Cup. This is bound to boost Qatar’s profile as a tourist destination – not just in the immediate phase, but also in the long term.
Make hay while the sun shines!
The hospitality sector in Qatar is already quite good. The warmth of the rich culture and heritage, and the accessibility to luxury, wrap the guests in an aura of sheer cosiness and contentment. But there is something you can do more. You can create a unique experience for your guests that will help your hotel stand apart and be remembered. It is here that small details take the spotlight.
Hotels and restaurants can broaden their appeal by offering more choices of amenities. Or, you can go right ahead and create customised products that will enhance the appeal of the amenity and form an impression with your guests. This will help you gain an edge over the competition through better service and presentation. By improving the attractions and amenities at your hotel/restaurant, you can enhance the end-to-end customer experience.
Products like resin bathroom sets, leather items like blotters, menu holders, tissue boxes, kettles, bins, hangers, amenity boxes etc might seem like small, insignificant bits, but as the saying goes – it is the small things that create a big impact!
1. Resin Bathroom Sets
Bathroom sets can include lotion dispensers, soap dispensers, toothbrush holders, soap dishes etc. A resin bathroom set is elegant, extremely useful and durable. It is a perfect addition to any bathroom. Eye-catchingly beautiful, it creates a bold impression on your guests.
2. Leather Blotter
A Blotter is a sophisticated and essential accessory that adds luxury to your hotel room. Made of high-quality leather, it charms your guests while adding elegance to the space.
3. Leather Menu Holders
A leather menu card holder adds a unique charm to an otherwise mundane utility. Apart from creating a visual impact, and being durable, it keeps the menu card from getting damaged.
4. Leather Tissue Boxes
Crafted to perfection, leather tissue boxes are an unconventional, yet tasteful addition to any room. The tissue boxes can be made in a wide range of colours and in different finishes.
5. Kettles
A kettle is here in this list because of its versatility. Be it boiling water, making coffee, heating milk or just any other use, most visitors love to have a kettle in their room.
6. Bins
Bins are one of the most useful, yet severely underrated room amenities. You can give this thankless amenity a chic upgrade by choosing a leather bin. Not only does a leather bin look stylish, it is also very durable.
7. Hangers
Hangers are an ideal amenity to place in a hotel room. Though often overlooked, a hanger is a thoughtful inclusion that will have your guests thanking you later.
8. Amenity Boxes
A leather amenity box is a sophisticated and thoughtful accessory that is sure to impress your guests. It blends in with any decor and makes a unique space for itself.
The above items are merely a few examples – the things you can add to make your guests’ stay comfortable and memorable are endless. It is only wise and prudent that you upgrade your offerings. It is a future-proof measure, the costs of which you can easily recover during the FIFA World Cup. This will not only help you in the short term but will also help you attract visitors well beyond the World Cup. Help your guests discover the best Middle Eastern hospitality. Create an unforgettable experience that will compel them to return again.

#6 Mykonos, Greek Islands
Argh Mykonos. What to say about you. You’re hella expensive, definitely not as architecturally beautiful as Santorini and nowhere near as naturally beautiful as Mìlos (personal fave). You are in fact the party island. As bianca put it, you’re either A) excessively rich, or B) 18 and ready to party the night (read; week) away. We, probably acted more A and our bank accounts now feel more B if we’re honest. When we arrived we ventured to our accomodation and naturally had a few cheeky cocktails. To be honest after testing about 4 at the accomodation pool side, we realised they weren’t getting any better and headed for the beach bars at Paraga. A mango daiquiri that actually tasted as it should was a breath of fresh air! That and the chips now residing in our tummies, ready to take on main course at a sea side restaurant - pasta was absolutely delicious!! Too bad B and I barely finished on account of a little too much daiquiri. Friday, we went into the centre of Mykonos ready to get our tourist on. The taxi fare for 10mins into town €35 - $70! We decided to wait the extra hour for the bus, and oh the joy. Taking a bus anywhere in Greece is an adventure in itself. Waiting half hour past the timetabled pick up time, pushing and shoving to actually get on the bus and not be left off, standing room only when on it, then life flashing before your eyes as the bus navigated these tiny, windy and car/bike/pedestrian filled laneways essentially. The bus wasn’t my favourite let’s be honest. The white streets are beautiful here, and it is very iconic Greece. I always take a moment to be absolutely grateful where ever I am, because it’s definitely such a privilege. We ventured around, saw the iconic windmills and then made our way back poolside - for you guessed it, more drinks. We had to get ready and catch the bus once again to make our dinner reservation, at Negrita’s. This beautiful bar along the foreshore near Little Venice, a row of colourful houses on the edge, and the sunset was divine. We were supposed to share a table with another couple, only they hated on life because they didn’t want to share, and our table was in the line of fire for the ocean waves - thankfully they moved on! We had a few delicious cocktails, and it was that moment of the night where it was either going home, or really kicking on... A English couple then joined us at that moment, ordered a €200 bottle of wine and decision was made! We chatted and had such a great time! Although, I’m trying to have more willpower when people offer shots - it’s never a good idea, and to this day I can never turn it down! I hope Nikita never reads this (sorry if you do!) but she did do a cheeky vom into the ocean, which was gold given the establishment we were in haha! When the bill came and we realised Bianca and I had spent €312 of cocktails, I actually nearly died. Don’t convert that. It sounds bad in euros but my god, it’s not good in Australian dollars. To be fair, they were expensive to start. Some things I vaguely remember from that night; ordering gyros at midnight, requesting ‘politely’ for the traffic controller at the bus station to calm the fuck down because he was a little hectic with the whistle, making friends with Kiwis who happened to know Bianca’s London friends, the Uber driver (arrived that day in Mykonos) getting us lost and bianca navigating home, the Uber driving requesting us to sign a waiver written in Greek (no thanks).. yep, you definitely win that round Mykonos. Saturday, we’ll it’s fair to say it wasn’t overly productive. By midday we managed to gather ourselves enough for lunch poolside and that’s where we stayed all day, until the dreaded bus back into town for dinner. Today, we’ve lounged by the pool once again and went to the beach nearby. Bianca is now flying back to London, and I’ve just arrived at the second hotel (May or may not have forgot to book the extra night I needed, so a little last minute booking.com yesterday never hurt anyone) ready to take on Croatia tomorrow! Greece, you’ve been a joy!!
