I noticed that in your translation you refer to “Nounuki-sama” when others I’ve read call it “The great brain-snatcher.” Do you know why this nickname has been interpreted differently? Does it have to do with the meaning behind the name?
So, in Japanese, Matsuura and most of the other villagers call it ノウヌキ様 (nounuki-sama) starting from Ch. 2.
If you're familiar with Japanese media, you've probably already heard of the honorific suffix -sama. Nounuki-sama is addressed this way because its a deity or a similar type of being.
The name Nounuki is only in katakana, but there's a fairly obvious interpretation, given that we're introduced to it as the thing that's stolen Hikaru's body in Ch. 1.
脳抜き (nou - nuki) = something which pulls out the brain
So "the great brain-snatcher" is a reasonable translation of this name.
But there's a reason why I don't go with this translation.
Hikaru's dad refers to a ウヌキ様 (unuki-sama) in Ch. 3. More recently, in Ch. 17, Hikaru's grandpa refers to an うぬきさん (unuki-san). On top of that, we see that the memo in Hikaru's pocket only has the "nuki-sama" part visible, with the "U" or "Nou" part obscured.
IMO, Unuki is not a particularly natural way to abbreviate the name Nounuki, since it would cut halfway through the "brain" part of the name. I don't think there's currently an obvious way to parse what Unuki might mean either.
Does Unuki and Nounuki refer to the same being? If so, why do the Indous and the other villagers have different names for it? What does the name Unuki mean anyways?
I don't think we have enough information to localize Unuki-sama in the same way, so that's why I also don't localize Nounuki-sama.

600 Follower Give Away
woah! I looked away for a minute and we went right past it!
Tumblr media
as per usual it will run for a week (I’ll end it on Friday 4/28 at midnight), and likes and reblogs both count for one entry, so doing both gets you two entries!
unlike usual though instead of the winner having to blindly guess at what character stories or events there might be, I compiled a master list of ALL of them. it took forever. if you win and want a summary of one before committing to them I’m perfectly happy to provide that
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iAh0TGIWLgonLgsMwYpMX3siDc-htyzZh0yW23EKRhM/edit?usp=sharing
anyways anything in green I have already translated and posted, anything in yellow I have at least read or have partially translated, and everything else is probably untouched
all of the event names for things I haven’t posted were fairly quick translations, so I might revist them if they get picked lol. I’m still committed to finishing the Sugiuchi character story before I get to this one I have just been distracted by other things! it’s in progress though!!
and as a thank you for 600 followers please enjoy the art of the new Majima KSR card for the second(!) Tokyo Revengers crossover

Hi! I'm just a Tumblr user with a little too much time on their hands translating Korean Homestuck posts as I come across them here, because why not! Deciphering Homestuck is already like trying to understand another language in and of itself, so why not make things even harder (lol). I also will try to explain cultural context and memes in my translations, if applicable. If you have any Homestuck posts you stumble across on here in Korean you'd like for someone to translate, feel free to send them my way! I'll see what I can do to help. (Although nothing dreadfully long, like a fanfic - this is more like an intense hobby for me, not an actual job haha)

Introduction/Explanation
This blog is an archive of the translations created by the fan translation group 'MILGRAM Fancult' before they disbanded in 2023 due to becoming busy with life.
The group was founded in June 2020 by Nyanko and Falulu
Before disbanding, they had a twitter account with 5,599 followers (still up but no longer posting) As well as a discord server with 1.34K members (private) the second largest server in the fandom at the time
I am a mod of that discord server since the 23rd September 2021 My main blog is @doctorbunny
Fancult was a well loved group within the community and I am creating this blog both for practical reasons (tumblr is easier to navigate than twitter and it will be easier to access for MILGRAM fans without a twitter account) and for sentimental value (this blog is not monitored by Falulu or Nyanko but was created with their permission)
Translations made after the 17th January 2023 are not officially checked and published as Fancult or uploaded to twitter. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING TRANSLATION REQUESTS

Recently there have been a couple of posts that I really want to reblog but which wouldn't fit the blog's themes.
So I've made a sideblog for that! It's currently called @knasigheter (roughly: "goofy things"). This is subject to change, though.

Oh, without realizing, this blog became 1 years old five days ago. To think it has been a year now... (๑• . •๑)
Although there are times I feel like translating Japanese is hard, I still had fun in the end cuz I feel the happiness and achievement of understanding the story, and then passing on that happiness to other people. I just feel like it's a waste that non-Japanese A3! fans wouldn't be able to read these wonderful A3! stories due to language barrier. Using translator app kinda wouldn't help cuz it's a machine, it's sometimes broken. So I'm making an effort here to try open the barrier for other people, even if the opening may be just a little. My English may be simple and repetitive from time to time but I'm doing my best to at least get the message across.
I will continue to translate and love A3! until the end of its life and mine.

Hello! This blog is dedicated to posting Kirby fan translations I've been working on. I decided to move these to a side blog so that they wouldn't get drowned out on my chaotic main blog. I am studying Japanese and experienced with fan translations, but be aware I'm still not professionally fluent.
If you ever have any questions, feedback, or notice a broken link, let me know! All scans, edits, and translations are done by me unless otherwise said.
I love to be tagged in things, if you make fanart of something I translated let me know and I'll show it off here!
Thank you and see you around!

thanks sm for all the time you put into translating hgsn, it's my fave manga rn :) I've been curious for a while, do you know what dialect the characters speak? I guess I unconsciously assumed it was a very distinctive one. but then I noticed in chap 18 they purposefully kept the location of kibogayama pretty vague, like "XX in XX prefecture," so I thought maybe it's a dialect that's heard in many prefectures & they didn't want to specify which. do you think the average Japanese reader would have an idea of what prefecture the characters are in based on how they speak?
Official material with voice acting (PVs, voice comic, voice dramas, etc) have all credited a Mie dialect coach, so that's the answer to what dialect its supposed to be.
The Mie dialect (wikipedia) falls under the broader umbrella of the Kansai dialect and the Western Japanese dialect in general, so I would imagine people would at least recognize it as being from that general area.
