Having icons on the dashboard increases community. I don't take the time to read every username, but with a quick glance, I know who posted something. It means I can associate what they posted with them. Otherwise it's just Stuff. (It's also fun to see the icons. It's a unique personalization that makes people happy, and their prominence makes tumblr unique.) It doesn't take up space. Why take that away?

it's honestly alarming that they're making this shift to depersonalize and disintegrate community.

part of me feels like this is the progression they want:

can't tell who posts -> don't care who posts -> no connection to who is on your dash -> FYP/algorithm

and it's horrible that they seem to be taking such a beloved website and sending it in these directions. probably overreacting but it's sad and frustrating to watch it go

anyway. it's a good reminder to reblog the posts you love, because that's how the website can keep functioning like it does

This is what the "Gamer Police" would ask me in a twisted YA Dystopian novel where video games are outlawed and I, Atarii Nindo, am a shy yet clumsy teenage girl who harbors a shameful secret (I have a birthmark in the exact shape of a PlayStation controller) and have just been caught inside the ABANDONED AR_ADE (missing letters on the sign) past curfew. After this, I will be rescued by a mean yet handsome teenage boy who will lead me to the underground Gamer Rebellion, where I will be sat in front of a tv and forced to play super mario bros as part of my initiation. I will play the game perfectly, with zero deaths, and the boy will go "tch... lucky break for a noob like you," and I will spend the next twenty chapters unable to comprehend what a "crush" is before we invade the capitol and the president, kneeling before my wiimote lightsaber, reveals I am the reincarnated spirit of shigeru miyamoto

I saw watcher Etho au and had to ask you to loredump whatever you have

i would be more than happy to do so!!!

etho's whole deal is that he is one of the first watchers (if not the first), being such an innovative and impressive player that it caught the eyes of the gods (ig the devs in this case?) who elevated him to a higher status.

(this serves as a huge parallel to grian as they are both players who became watchers by catching the eyes of higher powers, the only difference being that etho's experience was much less traumatic)

because of this, etho is ancient and one of the most powerful and respected watchers in the council. the thing is, etho does not give a singular fuck about what the watchers are doing and instead spends his time on hermitcraft or his own worlds doing his own thing, completely disconnected from the politics and happenings of the watchers.

he only appears before the watcher council when absolutely necessary, and the watchers are perfectly happy with this arrangement because it means they get to do whatever they want without intervention (etho being more than able to completely disrupt whatever they're doing if he decided he didn't like it).

as for how it all goes in terms of a storyline: currently the basic premise is a story told in two "acts", the first part being told from mostly grian's pov and the second from mostly etho's, revolving around the two's experience with watchers. it would start with grian's escape from the watchers into season 6, some of his recovery, and then at some point his discovery that he isn't the only watcher on the server.

this, quite understandably, freaks him the fuck out, and he begins to spiral into distrust and worst-case scenarios, eventually working himself up to such a state where he decides to confront and possibly even fight etho both to find out what's going on and to protect himself/the other members from a perceived threat.

meanwhile etho, who is minding his own business unaware of any of this happening (he was likely aware from the moment grian joined that he was a watcher, but when grian never came to him about watcher things decided it was nothing to be concerned about), is suddenly met with the server's fledging watcher up all in a panic, he is understandably confused.

that is, until he finally gets the full story out of grian. then he's pissed.

If you’re looking to commission an artist, read this first.

Hey, I’m Snell, commission art is literally my whole income. I’m here to tell you what sorts of commissions I like getting, and why I prefer those, because this will make working with a commission artist easier for you.

People with good attitudes. “Hey, my budget is $50, so please don’t go over that limit when sending me options.” is way more interesting to me as someone who has options in that budget than “DO NOT GO OVER MY BUDGET.” I do not work at burger king. You only get it your way if you’re treating me like a person.

People with references. Fun fact, finding a reference for the specific type of armor you want your character to use takes time and effort. If you have a horrible sketch, a photo reference, a pinterest board, or even better: a ref sheet, people will love you coming back to them.

People who ask for changes before it’s too late. The artist wants you to enjoy your finished piece, and anyone who does this regularly will send you little updates to squeal over. They want you to like it, so don’t be afraid to mention making someone chubbier, or making someone’s pose a little different.

People that have fun concepts. I promise that youre silly little idea for your oc picking apples only to find some magic golden apple much to the surprise of your other oc who knows it’s special is not too complicated! If you have a fun idea for a character or a cute idea for them to be doing, please let your artist know!

People who gush about the art after. It’s very encouraging for the person to respond when getting the art they purchased. I love seeing people showing stuff off on social media (in fact, I’ve started a new thing to make showing off emotes easier for people just for this.) It’s great to see what art is used for and how people enjoy it.

Basic gist is to be polite and considerate of your artist. We are here to make pretty things for you, but we’re also people!
