by any chance does anyone have any demon slayer fic recs where nezuko is actually more of a proper character and gets development and is allowed to grow? cause honestly the further i've gotten in this manga the more disappointed in it i've been with the lack of meaningful development, especially in nezuko

#no idea if this is actually a controversial opinion on the series cause i've not come across much criticism #but i do think it falls short on every character. the concepts are great and i enjoy the characters and had a lot of fun watching and #reading this series. but i do think that it fails to do much that's actually meaningful or impactful with any of the characters #ready to be disagreed with but i feel like the only development nezuko ever got was when she went to attack those humans and had to #be restrained by tanjirou. and it falls incredibly flat when she never really has any other struggles other than at the start of the series #i thought she was meant to be a main character but she's more like a set piece #maybe i'm just missing something cause i'm still about 50 chapters from the end. but i just got so disappointed after they did nothing with #her becoming sun resistant except pull a gag that i didn't want to pick the manga up again #like that was the chance to do more with her and finally give her development and let her relationships develop! and the fact that they did #nothing kind of highlighted to me that the series really hadn't done much with any of the characters #there's beats where it feels like there's growth but i don't actually know what about the characters has grown??? apart from getting a new #power and being stronger because of it #they don't grow as characters. and supposed development only ever happens during fights or off screen #anyway i should stop criticising. i'm just very disappointed cause i really enjoyed the manga and then that happened and it was like what's #the point #criticism #demon slayer criticism #<- so you can block the tag if you don't want to see this stuff #it feels very negative for the fact that you really can't expect much from shounen. and i DID enjoy it. it's just disappointing #(the shinobu thing is also annoying. like i like that she can't decapitate demons and that she uses poison but the reason for it being that #she's weak and small is bullshit and FEELS like it's written that way because she's a woman)

"You ruined my life! You tore apart my family, you tore my heart right out of my fucking chest-" Charlie's voice broke as he choked on his tears, "and yet I still want you to have it..."

Mariana faulters, hesitates for a moment. He wants to reach out and hold his husband, rock them both from side to side and comfort him. But he can't.

Not when he is the reason he's such a mess.

"Charlie..." He tries, weakly. Charlie sobs as he turns his head away.

"GOD." Mariana flinches as Charlie yells, stomping his foot and running a hand through his already disheveled hair "Mariana..." His voice softens. "When I said my vows-" he paused to take a gasping breath, "-I never, never! Thought that the death that would part us would be our daughter's." He stops again to compose himself, rubbing his face. "And by your hands, no less..."

Mariana held his hands close to his chest, wringing them together anxiously as Charlie spoke. He wanted to speak, opened and closed his mouth a few times as he tried. His words died in his throat, without a chance to be voiced.

"You broke me, my home, my heart, my family-" He hesitated. "...My daughter." Mariana opened his mouth to speak, an apology on his tongue, "BUT I STILL LOVE YOU."

They both stopped.

Mariana looked at Charlie, shocked, confused. How could he say that? He couldn't. He couldn't love Mariana, not anymore.

"I'm... Sorry." Mariana says, hesitant.

"Look what you've done to me Mari..."

He did. He stared at Charlie, for a while. In front of him was not the man he married. Here before him was a man, broken and torn apart by grief and betrayal.

Broken and torn apart by him. The person he was meant to trust the most.

Charlie spoke up again. "For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do we part... I meant it. I still love you, I cherish every sickening moment we spend together, Mariana!" His voice is gravelly, hoarse as he choked back tears again. At this point, neither could tell if they were of sorrow or rage. It didn't matter.

Mariana's eyes flickered over every part of Charlie in sight. Searching for something, a sign, words to say.

He found them.

"I... Love you too, Charlie."

Generally find the take on dream magic in diviners more compelling #(although LingHenry + RonanHennessy both being mlm wlw duos who are the dreamers is kinda fun) #anyway. This is not actually a fair comparison because Ling is my fav or at least top two w Theta of the leads and I love Ronan but he is m #least favorite of the trc leads of which there are four all of whom I love so it says nothing bad about him. my problem is that my type of repulsion is set off specifically by american 80s tv. the 50s-70s are still manageably repressed, the 90s are awkward but (too) self-aware about it, the 00s-to-early-10s are a mix of irony-poisoned and crisply gruesome, and then anything past that is just back to being repressed&clinical. But the 80s. Brimming with potent and awkwardly inexperienced sexuality. The cheesy mixed with the sincere mixed with shameless commercialism. The medium of tv itself bulging in its mold. 80s tv is unheimlich. it's uncanny valley. And I need exposure therapy :/
