Done! I've plotted the entire novel!
Tumblr media
If you have 80% of a book plot and a bunch of thin threads, I fully recommend just buying a pack of sticky notes and finding a wall to stick them on. Pick a colour for the plot and different ones for chapters, themes, notes and anything else you need and just get it all up there.
It offers such great flexibility in moving bits of the plot round and figuring out what happens and when. I started out with a strong beginning and end - I just needed to weave the middle bit together. I now have the full thing! So definitely recommend doing this if you're struggling with plotting and weaving themes in.
Now that this is done, I feel like I can start writing now! This book is based on a dream I had (not like Twilight omg) and some life lessons I wish people had told me when I was younger.
It covers things like finding and choosing your family, coming to terms with the fact that the people you are related to aren't always the best people (and coming to terms with that), finding validation and self acceptance and learning to let go of people or things that would otherwise do you harm. All in a fantasy setting! Woo!
Oh and it is also very queer.
I love the characters and messaging and will post updates as I go because eventually - I will need test readers!
Now to come up with a fucking title.

hi! :)
a writeblr introduction
Tumblr media
helllooo & welcome to this lil account of mine! so my name is osiris and i'm relatively new to tumblr (i've tried to ease my way into the community multiple times to no avail), and as a writer i thought i'd try my hand at making some friends in the community as a way to grow and improve my writing!
about me
i'm an computer science and english student
I'm 18, and a gemini
he/him
marvel & game of thrones lover
fantasy, sci-fi, & romance writer
lover of lana del rey and autumn
some goals
use tumblr as way of sticking to a wip 👀
write more regularly and frequently
dip my toes into screenwriting & filmmaking
interact with the amazing people of this community and make friends <3
to learn how to engage in fantasy roleplay and learn how to play dungeons & dragons
writing
my current wip is a political war fantasy with sci-fi elements and it's currently in the outline stage
i would like to get better at worldbuilding and creating more expansive and fleshed out worlds like asoiaf and cosmere
i write fantasy & sci-fi but i also have a soft spot for romance, psychological thrillers, and spy stories.
one of my main goals is to write one of the most heart-wrenching, angsty corruption arcs
I've never actually had a successful NaNoWriMo...
would love to do beta reading and critiquing to help improve both of our writing!
also a sucker for any epic fantasy, dark fantasy, sci-fi, corruption or redemption arcs, stories where the villains are the main character (especially this!!!), and an ACTUAL enemies to lovers trope
if your wips feature any of these ^^^ things, then reblog this with your wip details/page because i'd love to check it out!
and with all that being said.....
i am sooo looking forward to meeting you guys! <3

Past/Present/Future WIPs (tag game)
Thank you for the tag @buffythevampirelover
Rules: past is a WIP you stopped working on/finished; current is a WIP you're currently working on; future is a WIP you want to write
Past: My first complete novel was the Star House Club, an urban fantasy for kids and teens. I wrote it in 2008 for NaNoWriMo. Once in a while I think about rewriting it, but it would be a bit daunting. The whole thing needs to be overhauled.
Current: I've spent the past few months working on The Blood Cleaners, a YA Dystopia. I'm finally getting near the ending. It's taken forever for me to write because so much of it is learning my writing process. I look forward to rewriting it.
Future: There's two that I'm especially passionate about and could focus on either once I'm done with The Blood Cleaners. Columbus Day is a scifi I wrote and completed for NaNoWriMo 2010. It's especially important to me because I want to make it a trilogy and write multiple series in the universe (kind of like how some writers like Anne McCaffrey and Brandon Sanderson have written multiple series in the same universe)
My WIP that's been in existence for a long time is The Keeper of Maralla. This one is my passion that was unfairly abandoned, but I promise to give it new life after the Blood Cleaners. It's an epic fantasy, but not like your traditional fantasy. I haven't given too many details because it could possibly be so revolutionary to the fantasy genre, I wouldn't want to spoil it. Let's just say, for many years (decades) I've looked for a fantasy just like it. Since I haven't found it, I'll just have to write it.

For the curious, a quick and rough rundown of my Runner Owen series WIP
in a Victorian inspired world of eternal night, a transgender detective for hire resists forces both human and vampire that wish to own the city, and him
A gothic fantasy series with heavy MM sideplots, featuring not one but two hot antagonists who desire the protagonist. Set in a fantasy world based heavily on the 1890s, Owen Rosedown lives in a POC-filled, queer accepting society where trans people are common and gay marriage is accepted, but that doesn't mean it isn't prejudiced in its own ways. Owen, the youngest to become a member of the Runners' Society of detectives for hire and the first trans man, has his work cut out for him to get taken seriously by his middle and upper class clients even before the vampires get involved...
As this is a gothic, this series deals with heavy topics, so pay attention to future warnings both in and out of the books. Both villainous love interests involve age gaps - the vampire is a few hundred years old, and the human is ten years older than Owen - and while the vampire is your typical European white guy, the human is black. Smut is almost guaranteed, though probably within side stories and separate novellas instead of the books themselves.
The first book is currently titled Farewell Vesperos.
If any of this sounds like fun, leave a like/comment/reblog to be added to the tag list!

Tag Game Here We Go!
My good friend @girlfromthecrypt mentioned me in her recent writeblr tag game and I decided to join in the fun!
1) What motivates you to write?
To be honest? Anything. I've written ever since I was little, and have enjoyed it ever since. I'm a very creative person, and I'm constantly thinking about stories, ideas, and what not, and putting them to paper always feels great. I'm also a very driven person, and like to work on projects / keep myself busy, and writing definitely ticks that box.
2) A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them)
I'm currently working on the final edits of my novel 'New Haven,' based on my series 'A guest at my motel asked me to post his story. He looked like he went through hell…' It's been quite a ride, but I'm finally on the final stretch and the end is in sight. Here's just a random little snippet from a dream sequence that I quite enjoyed:
At that moment, Mom got to her feet. She was impossibly tall and towered high over every other member of the congregation. Her face was stern and her appearance was that of a stoic believer. Around her head, a halo of dark, hellish flames had formed. In a bellowing voice, she answered that there was indeed yet another sinner.
3) Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them and what are they like?
It's got to be Ethan from my 'New Haven' novel. He's your typical loner, rebel-type (and loosely based on James from Twin Peaks). He's quite the interesting character, one who might seem half mad and angry all the time, but he's got quite the depths to it. I just really enjoy writing him and his dialogue.
4) What process of writing do you enjoy the most?
The first draft hands down. While I usually outline a story beforehand, the first draft is the most creative part of writing. The best thing is that after a good ten to fifteen minutes, I get fully immersed in the story and things just come to me. It's almost as if the process of sitting down and forcing myself through those first minutes hands me the muse's kiss (as weird as that sounds).
5) What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)
This is really a tough one since I'm very bad at judging myself. I think I've gotten quite a bit better when it comes to writing dialogue and I enjoy it a lot. On the other hand, I think I've got a hand for otherworldly, and weird imagery/descriptions.
6) What is something in the writeblr community is most enjoyable?
Gotta be honest, I'm not really a part of the community. I guess even when I'm on social-media, I'm a rather anti-social person who keeps to himself and just shares/rebolgs his own stories. I'm, however, always happy to see other people interacting with one another, and motivating each other to keep on writing and pushing forward. You guys are all the best!
7) A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)
I really, really love WriteMonkey. It's a distraction-free writing software that essentially gives you nothing but a black screen on which you type. I've got serious focus problems and pretty much anything can distract me, even if it's just a menu with formatting options.
Another piece of software I've recently started working with is Scrivener. It doubles as a writing and organizing tool, but the best thing is that it comes with an export and formatting function. It means you basically just type out your story/chapters and the program puts it into a publishable ebook or submittable manuscript. This honestly saves an incredible amount of time and headache, since there are so many things you've got to look out for and keep in mind otherwise.
8) A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)
I really like the backstory of New Haven. It's essentially a small, unimportant religious town in the middle of nowhere, but as the novel continues my main characters discover that it's got quite a history. This includes Lutheran Christians, a German nobleman from the city of Gotha, and quite a few other things. I really love adding these tiny bits and pieces to make the settings seem more alive.
9) What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?
This might sound a bit harsh, but the best advice I can give people is to just sit down and write. Anything, really. If you're stuck on your current WIP, write something else for a bit, or maybe put out an entirely different story. I've been stuck before, and it's a terrible place to be in, and sometimes things just might become a bit too much, or you might grow to hate your current WIP. It's happened to me before. So just taking some time off, and writing something just for fun, is a great way to rekindle your creativity.
Another thing is, to allow yourself to take breaks! Sometimes, you've just got to recharge. Over the years, I've been extremely disciplined and forced myself to write every single day, even if I got home late, I'd force myself to put in at least half an hour. While I got a lot of work done, it honestly wasn't healthy, and I had to learn that taking some time off isn't a bad thing, and sometimes, it's truly necessary.
Just last month, I didn't feel things. All the stories I was working on were tough, a new novella I'd started didn't feel right, and I was in no mind to work on editing New Haven. And so, I took a few weeks off, until the spark was there again and I just help getting back into things.
10) Tag some people whose works you love/have been your biggest supporters
Oh man, this is so tough. @girlfromthecrypt was the one who originally tagged me, so I've got to give thanks for this little break. Other than that, I'd tag @octoberconstellation who's been sneaking me little sets of questions that are quite fun to answer.
Well, that's about it! Hope you guys enjoyed this little look into my head. And I'm sorry, some of my answers might have gotten a bit out of hand.

Holiday Writeblr Tag Game!
Rules: write a blurb, big or small, about how your characters spend the winter holidays :) if your wip is a fantasy world, also feel free to include what the holidays are like in that realm! Also works with artist’s ocs
Detectives: holidays would be a tough time for Cal since she doesn’t really speak to her family anymore, and so she would go to Mary-Ella’s hometown with her to celebrate Christmas with her family! Which is a very big family. Her aunts would ask Cal if her and Mary-Ella are dating/dating yet (which they aren’t, they’re life-partners but platonically) but they would both overall love the holidays despite the “hassle” and such.
Red Ring Of Fate: this one is easy because the story starts in January and Chinese New Year is a big part of the story! They both celebrate that with freinds and family, and also spend Christmas with their families. December/January is probably the only time that Jingyi sees her family (specifically her parents) and it’s probably stressful but also somewhat great for her because despite it all she still loves them.
Horror: hadn’t thought about them since I don’t focus on home-life for most of the characters, but I know that Chandni and Oliver would celebrate Diwali with their families and possibly each other earlier on, and most of the characters celebrate Christmas! They would also do a friends-Christmas with secret Santa and definitely spend new years together :)

Update on the planning a novel on the wall. I started off with a twine timeline and then ran out of wall.
Got rid of twine. Still ran out of wall.
Problem: I need more wall.
Solution: Buy more wall.
Sensible solution: Break it down by sections, so that's what I'm doing and now I have the first six chapters! YTWITA - are you actually being productive?
I think post it notes make an attractive wallpaper.
Why did I start this?

I LOVE writing so much, ideas evolve, change and grow. That makes me so happy.
I love the tingly feeling in my stomach when I get a new idea to add to my book (regardless of the draft LMAO) and how it can have an effect on its themes and aesthetic.

My first Writeblr tag game!!
Thanks so much for the tag @mthollowell-writes! This is one of my first ever tag-games, so I'm pumped. Also, this made me realize I rly need to do a WIP intro for my main project. It's a dark fantasy/horror with some romance, too. The working title is Fucked Up Fairytale. That aside, let's goooooo
1) What motivates you to write?
Anything and everything! Writing is my coping mechanism, for good times and bad. It helps me keep hold of happy feelings and release negative ones.
2) A line/short snippet of your writing that you are most proud/happy of. If not maybe share a line of someone else's work you love (just please credit them)
I have multiple WIPs, but I'm going to refer to the one I plan on actually turning into a book. The working title is Fucked Up Fairytale. That may undergo revisions. Anyhow, I'll share two lines/snippets, if I may! Mainly because the first one is very short indeed. Here it is:
I braced myself for stupidity, and he didn’t let me down. —This is in the main character's (Margot's) narrative inner voice during a conversation with her little brother.
And here's the other one, same chapter, same conversation! I feel like I may have gone a little overboard with Margot's world-weariness, but I kinda like it:
“The world I dream of has me making six figures at a job where my boss doesn’t need me to show him my tits,” I said, a chill creeping into my tone. “It has me going home at a reasonable hour so I can watch TV and fall asleep with a bag of spicy chips, preferably next to a spouse who doesn’t mind that they make me gassy.”
Neither of us spoke for a couple beats. Then, softly, my brother asked, "And where's the magic in that?"
"Nowhere, Callie. That's kind of the point."
3) Which OC makes you smile every time you think/talk about them and what are they like?
That would apply to Margot's love interest from Fucked Up Fairytale. He's, um… special. To me, and in general. Seeing as he's one of the Folk, it would be unwise to share his name, especially since not even Margot knows it as of right now. He calls himself the Huntsman, so that'll work for now.
He's this rather delicate-looking youngish man; slender, short and long-haired—he's quite pretty, really. And he's the smuggest, most self-satisfied dork you've ever met, but in a sweet, non-threatening way. I just love his and Margot's more wholesome exchanges. They clash a lot; she's a recent university graduate, has been a skeptic all her life and didn't mean to get roped up into any supernatural stuff, and he's this forest-dwelling fairy-like entity. But they end up being really good for each other, despite (or perhaps because of) their differences. Even though their dynamic starts off based purely on physical attraction, it grows into something more and their interactions really feel cathartic at times.
4) What process of writing do you enjoy the most?
I love what happens shortly after getting the idea for something. It's like a little twitch in the brain that grows and grows and it's just… awesome. And I'm not actually doing anything at that stage, so it's also the easiest step. Also, I just love writing dialogue.
5) What part of writing do you think you are the best at? (Yes stroke your own ego it's okay)
I think that's also writing dialogue! Not much else to say there. Oh, and nature descriptions sometimes. I've been told my nature descriptions are beautiful.
6) What is something in the writeblr community is most enjoyable?
How passionate everyone is! We all do the same thing, we write, and we all love doing it. And there's such an undertone of positivity to it all, of openness. That's really nice.
7) A writing tool/device you use that helps you with writing? (It could be speech to text, a writing program etc)
Oof. This one's too hard for me. I'm honestly struggling with a lot of writing software so… I don't have a good answer to that.
8) A piece of worldbuilding that you like in your own story? (It could be the magic system, a particular place in the story, a law etc)
The majority of Fucked Up Fairytale takes place in a single location. It's a magical forest that is its own entity, almost deity-adjacent. Certain characters worship it to gain its protection and power, but it can also be dangerous, trapping humans and turning them into so something they're… not.
I just really like that forest! I enjoy describing it, I enjoy creating new creatures it may be harboring, I enjoy lending this seemingly inanimate idyllic environment a personality that kind of shines through in a lot of scenes. I almost wish it were real. Almost.
9) What piece of advice would you say to encourage others to write if they are having a rough patch?
I'm with you.
That's all I, or anyone, can really offer, I believe. I've dealt with month-long dry spells, really horrible ones. I know it's shitty, I know it sucks. My advice, if I had any, would be to force yourself to write anyways. It's the only way to get back into it, and you should never ever give up writing. Writing is worth it.
10) Tag some people whose works you love/have been your biggest supporters
Well, obviously I'm gonna have to mention @prismatic-bell who once wrote a wonderful thirty-part fanfic to one of my stories and is, in fact, amazing. Xe has contributed greatly to a lot of my stories and I will be forever grateful for that. Also @rehnwriter who helped me set up my blog because I'm bad at internet stuff and need constant surveillance.
I'm tagging… uh… anyone who sees this and wants to participate! I'm really eager to get to know more folks from this community.

Your soulmate meets your crush and they hate each other (NaNo excerpt):
She paused for a moment, “… is the dragon okay?” “Saying the word ‘dragon’ over and over again will not make the reality of the situation go away,” Gabrielle snarled under her breath, crossing her arms over her chest.  She looked more.. agitated than usual. Her ears were pinned back, and her pupils like pin needles, her tail occasionally thudding against the wall behind her as it flicked about. Though Rosely couldn’t tell if it was the improvised crash, that she’d been seen in this world by someone other than Rosely and the thought of being perceived made her nervous, or if she simply didn’t like Sieve. At the thought, she raised her head and scowled at Rosely. “Right— sorry, Miss… ?” “Princess Gabrielle Deornu, of the [name] kingdom. Almighty and Ferocious Beast, as my father before me; descendant of the original Royal Faerytales.”  Sieve blinked slowly, looking to Rosely for confirmation. The latter nodded, and Sieve bowed somewhat awkwardly in Gabrielle’s direction.  “Apologies, Your… Royal Beastiness. I’m sure you’d have rather… crashed your dragon—” “Biscuit’s technically my dragon here, I think.” “I’m sure you’d have rather crashed Biscuit—” Sieve reared her head around, snapping to look directly at Rosely. “Rosely, that sounds INSANE.”  Gabrielle glared down her nose at Sieve, continuing her patrol of the room by circling closer around them. Keeping a close eye on Rosely and the scrapes along her face and arms. Though she’d tried to grab and shield her with her own body, it seemed she’d still neared the brunt of the hit.  “Do you realize how insane you sound right now? There’s a dragon outside, and he’s your dog? Your therapy dog? And this— thing is here too, glaring at me in my own store? It’s got hooves—” “She.” “She’s got hooves, Rosely! And fangs, and a tail, and horns, a-and teeth that could rip me to shreds!” “She wouldn’t rip you to shreds.” “She would.” ** I would.
