Steve's been walking forever. 

He was goddamn certain there was a town nearby, and now he's scared. Scared he's made a mistake. Scared Eddie can't survive him being wrong.

Steve studies landmarks, memorizing his way back to the abandoned building. Back to Eddie. He repeats the directions he's been making up in his head:

Straight towards the burned out car, past the tall tree, turn at mile marker 365…

With no map, he repeats these markers, over and over, making sure he'll be able to find Eddie again, because if he doesn't, they'll both be dead. Eddie from infection; Steve from the insanity of finally being truly alone.

Eddie had looked at him, his expressive brown eyes shining with pain and fever, and begged Steve not to go. Begged Steve not to leave him. Steve hadn't wanted to, had scrubbed his hand over his face, pinching his nose, terrified, and trying not to show it.

But, Eddie can't walk anymore.

So, Steve had to leave him somewhere safe, stashed away from monsters, despite every instinct in his body telling him no, don't because you don't split up. That's rule number one. But, Eddie's got an infected demobat bite on his side, with lines of red shooting upwards, towards his heart. He's balancing on the edge of trouble, real trouble.

Steve's scared to death if he doesn't find antibiotics that Eddie won't survive the next few days. And if Eddie goes…

Eddie can't go, can't leave Steve all alone out here, on the raggedy edge.

Civilization is gone, decimated by Vecna, and yet, somehow they've survived. And Steve needs them to keep surviving. Needs Eddie to keep surviving.

"How will you find me again?" Eddie had asked, sweat dripping down his temples, as he tried to hold back the shiver that wanted to break free.

Steve had held Eddie's overheated face in his dirty hands, and pressed his dry lips to Eddie's, "I'll always find you again."

Now, when Steve finally sees the abandoned small-town pharmacy, he wants to cry. The sign says Steve's Pharmacy, and he wonders if he's dead. If this is a nightmare Vecna's trapped him in. 

No. He doesn't have time for a crisis. Eddie doesn't have time for Steve to have a crisis. The door to the pharmacy is standing wide open, already ransacked. 

But the pull-down gate over the pharmacy hasn't been breached, somehow, and behind the locked metal barrier are shelves full of pill bottles.

Steve digs in his backpack, gets his bolt cutters, and goes to work. It's hard, nearly impossible, and his hands are blistered and throbbing by the time he's made a hole large enough to squeeze through. 

There's a drug reference book on the counter, laid open, abandoned, and Steve reads. Finds the matching bottles, stuffing his backpack full. Taking everything he can carry. 

Taking the book, too. They'll need it again, he's certain.

Back on the abandoned street, he starts repeating as he walks:

Turn at mile marker 365, past the tall tree, towards the burned out car…

Notes: This was set in the same little universe as my fic for the November prompt, Miles to Go, was. Can be read alone, or continued there, if you're so inclined.

Title is from a quote from Serenity: "This job goes south, there well may not be another. So here is us, on the raggedy edge."

Picture is from The Walking Dead. I was like, "I need an abandoned pharmacy, like the one that was in that early ep of The Walking Dead. Maybe I can find a screenshot." I did, and but I definitely did not remember it was called Steve's Pharmacy. Hilarious. That was just a gift from the universe, lol.

The brainrot of them is insane dude - Their designs and dynamic is stuck in my head, not to mention their species is pretty much spaghetti rubberhose LMAO. Hell I drew them during my first term college final somebody, and that my last drawing of 2023 is literally them! I am ill

Y'all I thought I drew something in November 2023 but that's just the beginning of my brainrot lmao (aka collecting screenshots of them). My actual doodles started at December lol.

Behold. The first drawing of them and I use approximately 1 reference and proceeded to not elaborate further and drew their proportions and hair and face by memory -

This was drawn while I was doing one of my final first terms LMAO

On a random note. Whenever I draw a "full piece", I always have this side file (or paper/canvas in traditional terms) just for the litte doodles I made along the way!

This is exactly what happened; I was like. drawing a man sleeping with the blankets like the ocean (because the term wants us to draw a scenario based on a prompt and an expression; in my case atm it was Ocean Sounds and Metaphor). But there's this two spaghetti twinks hanging out in my side file LMAO

Sometime later (a day later), like old fashioned Ygiro, I drew them as dragons to get my hands going

I cannot get Veneer's hair right at that time; his hair is killing me

Bonus Floyd because why not!

0n a random note 2. In an AU where all of trolls are based on dragons... I feel like Mount Rageons would absolutely be Noodle Dragons™ (Chinese Long Dragons), and that Trolls would have been Fae Dragons

And that the Vacaytioners (?) would probably be plush dragons (ok I'm gonna stop now; this post ain't about dragons!)

Ok I half lied here's V&V as dragons that I decided to properly colored and lined (+ Crimp dragon to fill in some empty space except I used 0 references so she just looks. wrong)

I feel like they both would be this. beautiful white dragons with golden undertones and their respective colors as an accent...

On a random note 3. I remembered pondering why their hair is green instead of like other colors during December, but I guess it lets them stand out I guess

Though in context to the dragons, if the white is like pearls and that the blue/purple is like sapphires and rubies (or whatever gems are purple, I forgor), the green would have been something like jade! Talk about drip.

... Okay a lil more before I moved on; Velvet would have long luscious hair from the head to the tail because it just makes sense, while Veneer would have them shorter. Same goes to their spine spikes.

Development Update - October 2023

Hi folks, Miyazaki here! We've got two exciting gameplay features to share in this month's update: the addition of Character Classes and actual screenshots of Wild Area exploration gameplay, which we are so excited to announce will be live for players to explore on January 1, 2024!

Read on to learn more about these key Mythaura gameplay elements as well as the Quarter 2 (2023) Ko-fi Rewards results and a Class-specific Companion vote for Bronze Ko-fi Sponsors and above.

Explore Demo: Sneak Peek

On January 1, 2024, we will deploy a key Mythaura gameplay feature for your exploration: a playable Wild Area, where you will lead a team of three Beasts through procedurally-generated Wild Area levels. In the Fledgling Forest you will encounter and fight Monsters—if you're lucky, you might even spot a Radiant Monster during your travels!

We'll have some more information to share about this Wild Area release in the November dev update.

These images are all WIP screenshots of actual in-game play being developed, not renderings. Final lighting effects, assets, and UI might change between now and the January 1, 2024 launch.

Beast Creator

The Beast Creator will have not only a visual overhaul, but will also introduce the Beast size mechanic. A Beast's size will directly impact its Health and Speed stats, so it's worth exploring that as you build your team!

You will also be able to choose a Beast's secondary element prior to their entry into the Wild Area. Its first element will always be the one that is inherent to its species.

Classes

There are many factors that may determine which Beasts you bring along with you for the narrative questlines or Wild Area exploration, and the newest facet of a Beast's identity lies with its Character Class.

Adventurers throughout Mythaura will find themselves as a Rogue, Healer, Fighter, or Sorcerer.

In-Game Functions

A Beast's Class will provide several narrative in-game functions, including some Class-specific dialogue options with NPCs and additional/unique options for narrative quests.

Class will also determine one of the Beast's Skill Trees, which will be the focus of a future development update. This will grant them abilities that are unique to their Class, with progressively more powerful skills unlocked with investment into that particular skill tree.

Mechanics

Players will get to choose their custom starter Beast's Class, which will grant one piece of starter gear and one Class-specific Companion. Players are able to gain additional pieces of starter gear by doing additional New Game (NG) cycles, where the player will be able to choose their new custom Beast's Class.

A young Beast will not be able to choose a Class; when they age up to an adult, they will be prompted with the option to choose. Beasts contracted via the Recruiter will already have a Class randomly assigned to them.

A Beast's Class can be changed at any time—all Skill Points that were assigned to that Class's Skill Tree will need to be reallocated to either the Beast's new Class or one of its Elemental Skill Trees.

Featured Class: Healer

Healers can derive their powers from any Element, but are especially common among Light- and Nature-aligned Beasts, as those Elements innately have healing abilities. Those who heed the calling to become Healers often feel a strong sense of duty to provide medical aid to those in need. This Class provides a robust selection of support-focused Skills, with some supplementary offensive Skills.

Some of the earliest medical schools in Mythaura were founded in the Central Plateau in the wake of the countless generations' worth of Griffin wars—the wounded left in the wake of these battles would overwhelm informal medical providers, and thus a generation of formally-trained Healers were born.

They can be found as folk practitioners or surgeons, herbalists or battlefield medics, snake oil salespeople or scientists. The unifying trait of all Healers is their power to do good with their powerful healing magics—though what they do with that power is up to the individual.

Starting Equipment: Serpent's Staff

Winged Serpent iconography is inextricably linked to Healers, as the Serpent's potent Nature-aligned healing abilities were the foundation of one of the earliest schools of medicine in Mythaura.

Healers at the beginning of their journey are often given a Serpent's Staff as a reminder of their highest duty: the care and protection of any Beast in need.

Companion Concepts

Along with the Serpent's Staff starting equipment, choosing a Healer for your custom starter Beast will also grant you a Class-unique Companion.

Ko-fi Sponsors of Bronze level or higher will have a say in which companion they would like to see as the starter Companion for the Healer Class. Please vote on this post by Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at 11:59pm PST in order for your vote to be considered!

I've been using the monthly screenshot prompts for my FC but with April being a clusterfuck month with Lalas, Viera, and Aura all overlapping and some months having nothing, we use this setup: January: Jobuary. For both combat and non-combat classes, jobs, and general roles. February: Febhyurary, for Hyur. March: Miqomarch, for Miqo'te. April: Vierapril, for Viera May: Mixedmay. This is for characters that are mixed more than one playable race, characters that are canonically from a non-playable race (Padjali, Garleans, etc), characters that aren't any in-game canonical race (like we have someone who has made a moth viera and I've seen kitsune themed Miqo). I also allow people to showcase characters from completely different MMOs like BDO, ESO, PSO2, WoW, GW2, etc. June: Junelezen, for Elezen. July: Julalafell, for Lalafell. August: Auraugust, for Au Ra. September: Shiptember. For pairings whether they're WoL x NPC, two WoLs, or characters of two people who are involved outside the game. This year we're gonna be using the marchofthetropes prompts someone found on Twitter. October: Hrothtober, for Hrothgar. Hoping we'll have Femhroth by the time this one rolls around this year. November: Roevember, for Roegadyn. December: free month. We don't do anything this month because we got Endwalker in December and might see 7.0 in Dec this year hopefully.

Year of the OTP 2023 - Thancred & Aeryn Masterpost

Originally started by a Batman fandom group, Year of the OTP is a challenge to end up with 12 new fics from a series of prompts for one's favorite ship. They've been gracious enough to open it to anyone and everyone, however, so a few of us decided to add our Final Fantasy XIV wolships into the mix.

So here are 12 fics/screenshot sets for my OC Aeryn Striker with that canon rogue, Thancred Waters. Also migrating the stories onto my Ao3, mostly in "Unexpected" and "Despite the Gods We've Outlived", though a few stand alone in my "Aeryn Striker" series.

January - Dual Perspectives (ARR, Pre-relationship) February - Linkpearl (Stormblood, early relationship, long distance) March - Ladyhawke Fairy Tale AU (image set, plot summary) April - Desert Divergence (AU/Canon Divergence, Love Confess) May - Illness (ARR pre-relationship, sick fic/comfort) June - Confession (Shadowbringers Love Confess, poorly timed) July - Stars (Yearning at the start of Shadowbringers) August - Snowstorm (Heavensward pre-relationship comfort) September - I Wrote This For You (A letter of yearning, Endwalker) October - On A Dark & Stormy Night (Dark Fairy Tale AU images) November - Missing Scars (Post-Shadowbringers readjustment) December - Home (post-Endwalker holidays & belonging)

Some of these did get written later, going back and filling in months I'd missed. Life happens! Also original story writing eating up my brain, but I cannot complain about more writing productivity!

This also let me get in at least one long-sitting WIP completed finally ("Snowstorm"; we're not going to talk about how long that's been in drafts...), while others still didn't mesh ("Meeting the Family" is being a rambling monster) but led to entirely new things getting written. And it got me to play with a few AUs, which I normally don't do, aside from the Halloween silliness, which found its way into this set as well.

Thanks again to YOTP for hosting and opening up this little challenge, and here's to a new year of creativity around all our blorbo pairings!

Maldives president courts investors in China as Indian ties sag - Reuters

At an "Invest Maldives" forum in a southern Chinese port city, Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu shook hands and exchanged words with smiling local officials on a China visit set to deepen bilateral ties as the archipelagic nation pirouettes [sic?] away from India.[...]

Muizzu became president of the Indian Ocean nation in November after winning on his "India Out" campaign platform under which he called New Delhi's huge influence a threat to sovereignty. His government has since asked dozens of locally based Indian military personnel to leave. And in an apparent snub to India, Muizzu is in China this week, before any visit to his country's giant neighbour. In Fuzhou, the Chinese city designated as the start of China's maritime "Silk Road", Muizzu said China remained one of his country's "closest allies and developmental partners", according to a statement released by his office. Year of the OTP Masterpost

Shout out to @yearoftheotpevent for making the prompt list for the year and also being a good sport about the fact that it seems their event wildly escaped containment. I believe it started life as a DC fandom event, and I wonder if they ever expected it to reach as wide as it did.

I used the prompts to write for my Final Fantasy XIV ship featuring Y'shtola Rhul and my OC, Zoissette Vauban, and even used the event to finally get them to their first kiss. Despite the month tags, a lot of these wound up in off-months because of who I am as a person (and maybe a bit of last minute crunch), but I did manage at least one work per month.

Sparktober Bingo 2023!

So excited to bring you this year’s collection of bingo prompts! As in previous years, we have collected a bunch of 2023 -tober prompt lists (found on this google sheet in the tober 2023 tab, with relevant links and hashtags. Check out the originals!). This year, we have also included generic tropes and additional rp/ask post prompts.

Sparktober Bingo Rules: (there are no rules)

Complete a row/column, corners, or a blackout of your card by November 1, or not! Update as you go. Spontaneously declare victory whenever you feel accomplished.

Tag #sparktober so people can see your bingo cards and creations!

All fan-works are encouraged: art, edits, fic, meta…

You are allowed to pull multiple cards until you get one that inspires you (hit “refresh” on the generated bingo card page).

You can also edit the prompt list as much as you want in advance to suit your likes and dislikes. Each “flavor” list is alphabetized.

There were tons of dialogue prompts this year in all categories, so those have been collected together in their own category.

Use the prompts liberally! “The Long Goodbye” could be an episode-related fic or a fic about saying goodbye or inspiration for a Raymond Chandler-esque Noir Detective AU. Go wild!

Hey everyone!

A lot of recent happenstances have made me consider everything that is Ryan Bergara, and what a wonderful, wonderful man he is.

I know I don't have to really tell y'all this, because I know my dashboard is full of fellow Bergirlies, but still, so often it feels like the fandom and the world at large could appreciate Ryan and all he does for us much more.

So! Why not have a Ryan Bergara Appreciation Week? This event will be running from Monday, November 21st leading up all the way to Ryan's 32nd birthday on Saturday, November 26th.

Do you love his incredible attention to detail, and the way he sacrifices himself for the good of the internet? Wednesday, November 23: Dedicated to the things Ryan says, because he is a funny guy and his turns of phrases are honestly, really unique. How did Shane put it? Bergaraisms, if you will. What are your favorite Ryan quotes? Time to share!!

Thursday, November 24th: Whether it's all the oaths he and Shane have taken, his competitive friendship with Steven, his devotion to Mari, the way he took almost all of his Unsolved family over to Watcher, Ryan is beloved by many people, and so, this day is dedicated to his relationships to the people who love him, and to Ryan, looked through the lens of them.

Friday, November 25th: Ryan is many things, but one of them is being a passionate dude about a variety of things. Let's celebrate all the things Ryan loves, be it basketball and the Lakers, films (especially horror ones!), theme parks, Paddington, and even his newly found love for baseball!

Saturday, November 26th: Finally, we come to our final day: Ryan's birthday! This is the day for anything that you feel didn't quite fit in the rest of the week, as well for sending Ryan the bestest birthday wishes!

Hello all!

TESCheer is back for its third year and this time, to make things a little less overwhelming, we're changing it up quite a bit! The last two years, we had 25 prompts, one for each day of December leading up until Christmas Day. It was decided upon between the two mods of this event to switch it up for ease and convenience!

So what's changed? This year, instead of starting on December 1st and ending on the 25th (or Christmas Day), we've decided to start the Sunday following the US holiday of Thanksgiving, or November 26th. Rather than doing 25 daily prompts, the prompt list has been narrowed down to just 20 and sorted into weeks. Each week will have five prompts to choose from and it's up to you which ones you want to do and how many, too! The exception is the final week of this, week five, which isn't actually a full week, but the days of December 24th & 25th, or Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Rather than prompts, it's considered a "free day" for you to come up with whatever you want!

The point of this event is to bring some holiday cheer to the TES fandom, be it through writing, art, screenshots, gifs, edits, mood boards, you name it! If you're creating something that fits one of the prompts, feel free to share it in the tag, #tescheer. We look forward to seeing what everyone has to share this year!

Rules:

As this is an event for the Elder Scrolls fandom, please keep your submissions mostly relevant to the Elder Scrolls universe.

AUs and crossovers involving Elder Scrolls characters or the Elder Scrolls universe are welcome, but please make sure it is TES-oriented. Additionally, we ask that you tag these submissions as "alternate universe" or "crossover."

You are under no obligation to participate in every week, nor do every prompt for a singular week. If you only feel like participating in a prompt or two that catches your eye, we're still happy to have you! You are more than welcome to pick and choose as you please.

Combining prompts is welcome and encouraged! We just ask that you tag appropriately for organization reasons.

Please use a read more for longer writing submissions, too. 5-6 paragraphs without is fine, but beyond that, use your best judgement.

Keep your submissions cheerful! The whole point of this event is to bring cheer to the fandom and it's hard to do that if entries are extremely dark and depressing. This is by no means saying darker themes can't be explored and are forbidden, but please ensure some good comes of it for your characters!

No harmful content. This should go without saying, but for clarity's sake, no racism, homo/transphobia, sexism (this includes misogyny AND misandry), ableism, rape/abuse apology, incest, NSFW content involving minor/underage characters, or otherwise hateful, bigoted, or toxic content allowed. Understand that the decision to include this rule in no way reflects the personal views of the mods, but was tailored with the best interests of the event in mind in order to keep it safe, fun, and cheerful for yourself, the mods, and everyone else!

Be considerate, polite, and respectful toward each other. It's easier to just ignore something you don't like than to make a stink about it.

Questions Answered:

Do I have to celebrate holidays to participate? Absolutely not! The point of the event is to bring cheer to tesblr, and that's doable even if you don't celebrate holidays! The timing of the event is simply because the mods themselves do love the holiday season, but don't expect everyone else to feel the same way. If you want to stick to a festive, holiday theme, feel free! If it's not your speed, that's okay too!

Who are the mods? The mods are @elfinismsarts, who created and operated this event during its first run in 2021, and @friend-of-giants, who took over for its second run in 2022!

Can I submit a post late? You sure can! However, we will stop checking the tag and responding to pings as of January 1st, 2024. So if you really want your submission to be seen, try to get it posted and tagged before then. We understand that for most people, the holidays are a busy time of year, so we will try to give you as much wiggle room as possible.

When does the event start and when does it end? It starts Sunday, Novemeber 26th, 2023 and ends on Monday, December 25th, 2023. The extension period for late submissions will close on Monday, January 1st, 2024.

Does my submission have to be festive or wintry? Nope! As long as it's relevant to the chosen week/prompt and remains within the rules, you can submit whatever you want. While some prompts are a little on the nose, they are all completely up to your interpretation.

When people ask you when you knew (that he was it for you, that he accidentally ruined you for anyone else, that someone needed to take a sledgehammer to the stupid self-protective walls he built around himself so it might as well be you) the answer is easy, and they’re always surprised by it.

Maybe because they seem invariably to know how drawn out the whole thing had been, then. Almost a year to get your collective shit together, which seems like a waste from the outside, you’re sure. Privately you think of that extra time as a key contributor to the solid foundation beneath your relationship now, even if some of it was fraught.

But the fact of the matter is, Daniel started a playlist sometime after that first New Year’s Eve and has been adding to it for the last four years. And while casual proximity comes as easy as breathing to him, you know his love language is music. Not in the ways that come immediately to mind – he’s far too impatient to learn an instrument, and can only carry a tune just enough to be an unashamed karaoke partner – but in the ones where he’s the person trusted with the AUX cable and to make playlists for every event from a rare Friday night gathering all the way up to weddings.

Daniel’s playlists are carefully curated and flawlessly matched to the occasion, almost perfect reflections of the people he makes them for, and the seeming imperfections are suggestions he thinks they might appreciate (he has a 99% success rate, and she’s sure Blake withholds the 1%  just because he thinks Daniel’s reaction is funny).

All except yours.

Yours is like a story with no linear narrative, an explosion of the last 4 years with a loose thread woven through it. And you like it like that. To you, every jump from wistful country to Fleetwood Mac to sad indie rock means he thought of you (as an individual or a collective) and went to the trouble of adding it.

Sometimes he sends you little explanations, and for your second anniversary you fished out your favourites, screenshotted from your text thread, and put them into a collage with the album artworks, enlisted a designer friend to help. The print sits pride of place in his study at home.

Others are self-explanatory; you danced to Take it to the Limit by The Eagles at a cousins wedding, not long after you made it official, there’s a photo of the two of you backstage at a Gang of Youths show, mid dance to Let Me Down Easy. You’re the One that I Want from Halloween karaoke when you went as Danny and Sandy.

Sometimes you catch it in the corner of your music app, the innocuous text saying he’s listening to that playlist, and the soft, smitten part of you hopes he’s enjoying it, that it’s giving him what he needs, what he’s looking for.

A trans-identified male is in custody after allegedly murdering his trans-identified female partner in Porsgrunn, Norway. The complex case has prompted confusion due to police and media reporting that a woman murdered a man.

On the night of November 26, police were called over a domestic dispute in the South-East district of Porsgrunn. Despite injuries being reported and medical treatment being sought by a female, it was determined that no intervention was required at the time. Just two hours later, at approximately midnight, police were called again, with the female victim suffering critical injuries at the residence.

The victim, 22, was rushed to hospital but did not survive, quickly resulting in her male partner, 18, being taken into custody and charged with murder. The names of both parties have not yet been released.

The victim and accused were in a relationship and had just recently moved in together, signing a lease on Friday. Some neighbors in the housing complex have come forward to speak with local press and reveal they heard screaming and shouting throughout Sunday evening, while the tenant who lived above the couple says he heard a loud “bang” that night. Police have confirmed that a gun was not the cause of the sound, but that a potential murder weapon of an undisclosed nature has been retrieved.

According to Telemarksavisa, police had been notified over incidents of violence between the two multiple times in the last year.

While a number of details surrounding the slaying are currently unclear, both the police and media reporting of the incident have prompted backlash from Norwegian women’s rights advocates due to the obfuscation of the biological sex of both the suspected murderer and the victim.

Initial reports stated that a man had been arrested in connection with the murder of another man, with outlets such as Dagbladet later switching their articles to clarify that a woman had been arrested in connection with the murder of a man. This follows confirmation by the public register that both the victim and the accused are legally the opposite sex of their current identification.

“In an earlier version of this article, Dagbladet referred to the accused as a man …. This information was later changed to the fact that the accused wants to be referred to as a woman. Dagbladet has corrected,” a notice embedded into the article reads.

Subsequent coverage by other news stations, such as NRK, referred to the suspected murderer as a “woman,” as police scrambled to revise their previous references to the accused as having been a man.

“The police initially reported that it was a man who had been arrested and suspected of the murder. This morning, the police changed the charge to a woman for the murder. A revision was made,” NRK wrote in their correction.

Police have said that the 18-year-old male in custody will be treated in accordance with his self-declared gender identity.

On social media, Norwegian women’s rights advocates condemned the confusion.

“In other words, a man has killed a woman. In other words, a classic partner murder. With pronouns,” one user wrote in response to a screenshot of a revised article that began circulating on social media.

“Is this the trans genocide we keep hearing about?” another sarcastically remarked.

The 18-year-old suspect has been remanded to prison for two weeks so that psychiatric evaluations can be conducted. He has not commented on his charges.

Norway has become notorious for its extremely lenient gender self-identification laws, and introduced “gender identity” into its hate crime legislation as a protected characteristic in January of 2021. Since then, a number of people have been placed under criminal investigation for failing to affirm a transgender person’s identity.

Shortly after the legislation was revised, a Norwegian man was sentenced to 21 days in prison and a fine of 15,000NRK after being found guilty of “insulting” and “misgendering” a trans-identified male on Facebook. The next year, a women’s rights advocate was investigated by police after stating that males could not be mothers.
