Reply from this post, and we'll open nominations for more cats who are part of the Jellicle Tribe
Tumblr media
@evolutionpurple thank you for reminding me that I need to watch that movie again because I don't remember a cat. I looked it up though and here's what I have.
Sergeant Tibbs!
Before I actually watch the movie again, I can say Sergeant Tibbs definitely is friends with Gus. Whether Gus was a soldier or Tibbs once played a soldier in a play with Gus, they knew each other a long time. They're both old and their memory isn't quite what it was before so Tibbs doesn't quite remember knowing Gus or about the Jellicles, and Gus might tell stories of his old Sergeant friend once in a while but he doesn't remember their name or where they live.
Gus also met the Coronel and the Captain once and considered them as unofficial Jellicle, even if the tribe had never seen a horse before and Jellicle dogs are not a common occurrence. However, the three soldiers do their best to help and rescue anyone who is in danger and for Gus (at one point in his life) that was enough to be part of the Jellicle tribe.

[Fanfic] Inner Cat [101 Dalmatian Street]
genre: oneshot, slice-of-life
rating: all-ages
content warnings: none
synopsis: Deepak thinks he may have a holistic solution for Dylan’s cat allergies. Will the power of inner-cat meditation help Dylan overcome his affliction?
“Deepak, there's no scientific backing to prove this will work.”
Dylan sat in a dimly-lit room with his younger brother Deepak, both of them cross-legged on zafu cushions. The smell of catnip-scented candles filled the air, as soft sitar music accompanied by deep purring noises played on a nearby boombox.
“Brother Dylan,” Deepak replied in a soft, soothing voice, “I really think you should set your convictions aside for a moment and try to have faith. Perhaps the answer to your cat allergies isn't medical, but spiritual.”
“Pretty sure Mum would beg to differ,” Dylan remarked. “She's a trained medical dog, after all.”
Deepak placed his paws together. “Trust, O brother. Trust,” he murmured. “I can sense it in your aura. Your inner cat is begging to emerge, but your canine pride rejects him. I believe this internal refusal is manifested in the form of your 'allergies.' Once you free your mind of the illusion of division between cats and dogs, perhaps you will also be freed from your physical suffering.”
Dylan rolled his eyes. New-agey hooey. But, he did care a lot about Deepak, and he figured if it would make him happy, he should at least give this “inner cat” stuff a shot.
“Alright,” Dylan sighed with acquiescence. “Lead the way, young Guru.”
Deepak nodded with an eager, yet serene expression.
“Start by raising your paw like this.” Deepak raised his left paw, making a gesture similar to a cat pawing at the air, which Dylan mimicked.
“Close your eyes,” Deepak instructed, “and feel your chi flowing into your paw. Imagine it as divine feline energy coursing from your center, flowing throughout your body, through your arm...your paw pads...your claws...”
Dylan tried hard not to cringe at this point. He could only imagine if Fergus and the gang or, dog forbid, Dolly could see him right now. He'd never live it down. He quickly pushed those thoughts away and made an honest effort to follow through with this for Deepak's sake.
“This energy,” Deepak continued, “is gently moving your paw up and down, like a metronome in sync with the rhythm of the universe. Feel it as it happens. Don't try to control it. Just let the universe work with your energy.”
Almost without realizing it, Dylan's arm began to move on its own. He didn't consciously start this motion, nor could he stop it. He was actually a little bit freaked out by this. Was he in some sort of hypnotic state?
Relax, Dyl, he thought to himself. Just let this happen. It's fine.
“Now that we are moving in time with this cosmic rhythm,” Deepak continued on in a whispered tone, “We chant the ancient mantra that connects all life to the feline infinite. Take a deep breath in, and repeat it calmly with me. Miaow-aow-aow-aow...Miaow-aow-aow-aow...”
Without even really thinking of it, Dylan found the same droning miaows escaping his own mouth.
He didn't know what it was. Maybe the smell of catnip was giving him some sort of weird high. Maybe his brother had a way with words. Maybe he was just going crazy. But he actually felt kind of...relaxed.
For a moment he could feel the phantom sensation of his floppy ears pointing up into triangles atop his head. His tail felt like it was becoming curled and slinky.
“Wow, Deepak...” Dylan murmured dreamily, still in his cat-trance. “You...you were right...I can feel it...Cosmic oneness...Unity between canine and feline...I think I really did find my inner ca...my inner caaaah...ahhhh...ATCHOO!!”
Dylan was instantly snapped back into reality by his own sneeze.
He sniffled sheepishly as Deepak stared wide-eyed at him with concern.
“Oh dog...” Dylan squeaked in embarrassment. “I-I'm really sorry, Deepak. I swear, I dunno why that happened, I--”
“Shhhhhh...” Deepak interrupted his brother with a reassuring smile. “It's perfectly fine. Maybe it just means...that we've made a little progress, yes?”
Dylan looked down and chuckled, still a bit embarrassed.
“Let's take a break for now, shall we?” Deepak said as he rose from his seated position. “I'm proud of you for giving this a try. It means a lot that you're willing to do this, especially knowing how important the teachings of Guru Miaow are to me.”
“Of course, Deepak,” Dylan replied. “Anything to make you happy.”
The small puppy ran over and gave Dylan the biggest hug his tiny arms could manage.
“Thank you, brother,” Deepak whispered. “Namaste.”
Dylan smiled warmly and reciprocated the hug.
“Anytime, Deepak,” he replied. “Namaste.”

Steven Universe: The Movie review
STEVEN UNIVERSE: THE MOVIE:
THIS CARTOON NETWORK TV MOVIE IS A “GEM” TO TREASURE!
By Nico Beland
Movie Review: *** ½ out of 4
CARTOON NETWORK
Tumblr media
Garnet, Steven Universe, Pearl and Amethyst in Steven Universe: The Movie
Taking another detour from theatrical movie reviews to talk about another TV movie premiere and the second one this year following my review of the live-action film adaptation of Kim Possible. This time it’s for Cartoon Network’s Steven Universe: The Movie, based on the series of the same name created by Rebecca Sugar.
Before I dive into the movie let me take a moment to discuss my history with the Steven Universe show. It’s no secret that I’m an “oldie” when it comes to Cartoon Network as I grew up with their earlier programs like The Powerpuff Girls, Ed, Edd n Eddy, Dexter’s Laboratory, and Samurai Jack to name a few and I remembered the late 2000s-early 2010s to be a dark age for the channel when it comes to programming with an experimental phase of live-action shows, game shows desperately trying to compete with Nickelodeon, and cartoons that just weren’t all that good with some exceptions like Chowder and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack.
It wasn’t until the releases of acclaimed shows like Adventure Time and Regular Show and a new management team was brought in to Cartoon Network when I got interested in their programs again. One of the shows that really took off aside from Adventure Time was Steven Universe which became a critical and cultural phenomenon with cosplays, merchandise, and garnering viewers of all ages and genders being completely engrossed in the gorgeous animation, memorable characters, and poignant and mature stories and themes geared towards a family-friendly audience but done in an intelligent and thoughtful way (Not gonna lie, there have been episodes that actually got me teary-eyed!), it quickly became one of my favorite shows on the network, got the DVDs, and even had a couple of encounters with Steven’s voice actor Zach Callison at Comic Con.
Because of the success it had over the years, we have Steven Universe: The Movie celebrating its six-year run (as of this review) and as a thank you to the fans for making one of the greatest and most influential animated shows of all time. Does the movie live up to the hype and do the show justice? The answer…ABSOLUTELY! And it has the honor of being not only one of Cartoon Network’s best movies but also one of the best films based on an animated series I have ever seen whether theatrical, television, or direct-to-video.
After redeeming the Diamonds on Homeworld, Steven Universe (voiced by Zach Callison-Diary of a Single Mom, Sofia the First, Just Add Magic) who is now sixteen-years-old returns to Beach City and reunites with the Crystal Gems, Garnet (voiced by Estelle-Empire, We Bare Bears, OK K.O. Let’s Be Heroes), Amethyst (voiced by Michaela Dietz-My America, Mighty Magiswords, 101 Dalmatian Street), and Pearl (voiced by Deedee Magno Hall-Dellaventura, Rear Window (TV movie), Third Watch) as well as his dad Greg (voiced by Tom Scharpling-Tom Goes to the Mayor, Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, Adventure Time) and friend Connie (voiced by Grace Rolek-Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Lou and Lou: Safety Patrol, Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five) to finally have his “Happily Ever After”. However, a new threat comes in the form of Spinel (voiced by Sarah Stiles-Tootsie, Get Shorty (TV series), Unsane) who plots to inject a toxic liquid into the Earth’s core and destroy the entire planet.
That is the least of Steven’s problems as Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl lose their memories in battle with Spinel and Steven’s gem reverts back to its old state where he’s unable to use his powers…again. Steven along with gems Peridot (voiced by Shelby Rabara-Glee, The League of Extraordinary Dancers, Me and My Grandma), Lapis (voiced by Jennifer Paz-The Defender, The Angry Beavers, As Told by Ginger), and Bismuth (voiced by Uzo Aduba-Orange is the New Black, My Little Pony: The Movie, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir) must find a way to stop Spinel, fix Steven’s gem, and get Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl’s memories back through nostalgic callbacks and references to events of the series.
However, the key to stopping Spinel’s wrath may lie within Steven’s past and the actions caused by his gem mother Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond. If he’s able to get his powers and his friends’ memories back in time, Steven might be able to confront Spinel and put her on a different path.
Overall, Steven Universe: The Movie offers the same magic, beautiful animation, and LGBTQ themes that made the show a hit done in the style of a Broadway musical much like other films based on cartoons such as South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut and the first SpongeBob Squarepants Movie. Given how the songs and music in the show are just as popular and acclaimed as the series itself, the musical tone works perfectly for Steven Universe.
Since the series’ creator Rebecca Sugar also has a successful career as a singer-songwriter you can tell her determination was set to overdrive in creating the best songs she could for this movie, and it shows in the musical numbers on-screen. From the lyrics, vocals, and the animation set to the music there is a kinetic energy to these songs that makes the movie feel bigger while still retaining the Steven Universe charm.
Like the series, the animation and art design are absolutely gorgeous and despite being a made-for-TV movie the animation looks higher in quality than the show with extra polish, shadows, and vibrant colors to make the characters and environments really pop. It makes me wish Steven Universe: The Movie had a theatrical release because of how stunning and lively this animation is.
However, the animation definitely embraces its wacky and bouncy side as well with the villain, Spinel who I can best describe as a gem version of The Mask running entirely on cartoon logic and one of the show’s more comedic antagonists. She’s completely cuckoo and psychotic and can stretch, inflate, and transform parts of her body like an old Tex Avery cartoon but she also has a tragic backstory that makes you understand why she’s doing all this and like most of the show’s antagonists she’s more of a lost soul rather than an evil entity.
I don’t know what else to say, Steven Universe: The Movie is absolutely wonderful and one of the best movies Cartoon Network ever put out alongside Ed, Edd n Eddy’s Big Picture Show and the Samurai Jack premiere movie as well as one of the best films ever made based on a cartoon. It’s guaranteed to satisfy fans of the show and I’ll go on record and say it’s a great movie to watch with the entire family, whether half your family is gem or not it’ll make you laugh, cry, and “Believe in Steven” over and over again.

So I watched the 101 Dalmatians for this post with the idea of 101 Dalmatians and Cats being set in the same universe/time. Now, all I can think about is the puppies visiting the junkyard to play with the Jellicle cats. It ends with Tugger being dogliled by the a group of pups while the kittens try to do the same with Munkustrap. Of course he was prepared for it and the kittens aren't as strong as the pups.
The only pup who doesn't play join in crushing Uncle Tugs is Lucky, who stumbles across Mistoffelees after wondering around the junkyard. Mistoffelees was reading one of his magic history books when he sees the pup staring at him. They sit together for the rest of the night. Mistoffelees reads some of the spells to Lucky, while Lucky listens and memorizes all the spells, even if he doesn't know magic.
Patches spends a lot of his time arguing with Mungojerrie why Thunderbolt is the best hero and he coild beat any cat ever. Mungojerrie can only counter by saying that any Jellicle could beat an old dog because "Jellicles cats are magical, and magic can beat anything." Obviously he should stop hanging out with Misto before he actually learns about magic.
After the argument with Patch, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer teach a handful of the pups how to break out of budings, in case they get kidnapped again.
