#now for oranhammes colors

Been chipping away at trying to figure out oranhamme again.  He’s always been one of the hardest characters to lock down. His proportions are always hard and figuring out fashion/color is something Im still working on BUT I will say Im pretty happy with this right now even if its not quite finished.  More info below if you’re curious as to why there are certain design choices. 

Oranhamme is a dreamon ( dream demon) who hails from his own realm but visits others in hopes of finding new inspiration for his craft. He’s an artisan of many practices but his main love and passion is cooking. 

Personality wise, Oranhamme is a social butterfly, flamboyant, charismatic, talkative, hospitable while also being a little gossipy with a small hint of a temper. He has a deep southern drawl that he picked up somewhere on his travels. To keep it simple I’d say hes a combination of Guy Fieri, Benoit Blanc, and Gordon Ramsey. My current voice claim for him right now is Ken Paige

His fashion is meant to be eclectic but still ***good*** in the sense of ‘you wouldnt think those things would go together but he pulls it off.” His outfit mainly consists of a casual almost beach like shirt and short pants with sandals to capture his more laid back friendly nature. His belt/wrap/glasses are meant to be more striking and make him pop.  The waist wrap and the fabric bracelet are also functional in that they are actually his apron and headband that he uses for cooking. THey are merely folded up and added to his outfit so he can whip them out whenever the urge to make and bake hit him.

Was getting a wee bit tired working on the stickers so took a break to doodle for myself. I actually feel like the Hueminns are just right there in term of designs. Their body types are pretty much all nailed down its just the tiny lil quirks Im trying to solidify to make each one unique while being a solid individual design. Theres a lot of research and inspo behind their designs that I wont get into now but ultimately I’m just happy that theyre looking like a solid group. Some of them had eluded me for a while.  If youve never met these goons, they are the siblings of Oranhamme. They each have their own color on the tertiary color wheel and all represent a specific type of dream. Like Hamme they travel around worlds looking for inspiration for their specific theme and spread more of it into the universe. None of these are final final. I know for Magentine (top left) Im still playing with her quirk, trying to find something that deals with relationships/love.

Been doing some fun pokemon doodles in my free time. Tried to make a trainer Oranhamme (Hamme) and trainer Fairy (Fai)  Hamme is a Unovan farm boy who traveled around the regions tasting different cuisines before settling in Hammerlocke to open a restaurant that serves comfort food. He has a team based around food and food gatherin. Fai is from Ballonlea has empathic psychic abilities. They currently work as a pokemon behavior specialist using their abilities to sense the needs of the pokemon they tend to. Fai has a team centered around psychic types and emotions.  Big thanks to @/triniitea on twitter for help with Fai’s colors!  Also cameo of @clown-manifestation ‘s Barnaby who often regales Fai with beautiful poke puns.

OKAY! Some thoughts on Oranhamme’s ‘dark side’ for those who would like to know! Its under a read more so that those who want to see how it unfolds over time dont get spoiled

I guess I should start with a real quick reminder that Oranhamme is the dreamon of materialism and one of his main themes is comfort. As such Oranhamme finds most of his comfort in material things such as a cozy house, good food, and good company. He treasures his comfort and the comfort of his friends fiercely. Now when something or someone threatens that comfort zone for Oranhamme thats when you start to see his rather nasty temper. Oranhamme really does not like to leave his comfort zone. Minor things like crowded spaces dont set him off but something like having to deal with new technology sure can. Things that definitely set him off are stealing things he values or messing with things he values. Hes a bit like a dragon with his hoarde. You tamper with his treasure (whether it be things or people) or try to take them from him then thats when things tend to get a little heated. Which brings us to the topic of how he deals with such discomforts. This is where Oranhamme’s dark side kind of shows because he really doesnt deal with discomforts in a healthy or subtle way. Theres a few things that can happen when he’s mad at something or someone.  When it comes to inanimate objects giving him grief he sometimes just destroys them in a fit of rage, a lot of times he actually takes a bite out of them. Hes lost a few computers that way.  As for people who annoy Oranhamme, well, thats where his moral compass gets askew. You see, one of his main abilities as a dreamon is to alter the material form of something. He can transform a chair into a cupcake ( wont taste too good though) or a bunny into a bead (dont worry he has never done this). So when it comes to him being angry he tends to use that power to turn them into something that doesnt make him angry. Sometimes he pulls a Majin Buu and turns someone into a dessert and other times he thinks they are better suited as part of the furniture in the foyer.  An alternative dark fate is becoming one of the ingredients in one of Oranhamme’s recipes. Lets leave it at that. But yea, this all kind of stems from color psychology. The color Orange is a pretty interesting one to me because its both a grounded and active color. Its pretty earthy and warm like the hearth of a good rustic home but its also got red in it and as you know red is associated more with passion and fervor. I think thats a pretty good way to describe Oranhamme. He is a very grounded and warm character but he is also filled with a fiery passion and while that energy often goes into creating and homemaking it can also sometimes manifest as something a little more sinister. I suppose you could say he takes his creativity and uses it for darker purposes.

Oranhamme is one of the most therapeutic characters for me to draw. I love posing him and drawing his expressions and figuring out where the weight and the squish go. I had a stressful day so I ended up doing a lot of rough sketches of him. I’ll hopefully ink/line them too so they can be scanned or photographed but my hand and arm hurt as of now.

Gonna talk about my big hamme since thinking about him is equally as soothing.

Oranhamme is a bit of an oddball out of the Hueminns. Of course, all the Hueminns are a bit odd in their own way but what I like about Oranhamme is that he’s a bit of a contradiction but also a balance.

Oranhamme’s color, orange, is a fun one, its got a bit of red in it which usually represents anger and passion but also a bit of yellow which usually represent joy and both of these colors tend to be super energetic. While orange has a certain energy it also feels grounded and earthy to me. Its warm but not necessarily burning, just that soft glow of a fireplace, a gentle sunset at the end of a long day, or that cozy cabin room. 

I always image Oranhamme to be like that, a comfortable and social type fella with a love for fun (the yellow in orange) and a hidden temper (the red in orange). Thats why despite me mainly drawing him cooking or chilling at home he is totally happy busting a move to lady gaga or looking a bit (very) murderous at times. Boy do I love him looking angry too, haha (sweats a little)

Thats also why I imagine him getting along with villains and kinda doing some things on the risky side too, not crazy crime or anything but just bein that bartender type fellow for the baddies who is social enough to find out just about anything he needs to know. Kind of imagine he likes a good gossip but can also keep a secret.  Anywho that was your late night chat about Oranhamme! Thank you
