Ideas for Star Wars content that would have been better than the sequel trilogy.
Star Wars: New Dawn
Taking place thirty years after the death of the Emperor and the collapse of the Empire, Luke Skywalker is overseeing the growth of a new Jedi Order on their ancient homeworld of Tython. Alongside his wife, former Inquisitor Mara Jade, Luke does his best to revive the dying embers of the order with help from familiar faces like Cal Kestis and Ahsoka Tano.
However, trouble brews on Tython. The Jedi find themselves caught between the local Thythonian tribes, with whom they hold a tenuous alliance, and a colony of Alderaanian refugees who happened to be off-world when their planet was destroyed by the Death Star.
The Tythonian Tribes tolerate the Jedi since their order originated on Tython and thus are seen as a returning tribe rather than invaders. The Alderaanian Refugees, however, are treated with hostility by the locals who fear this is the prelude to a wide spread colonization effort by the New Alliance.
Enter unto this conflict: Rey: a young force sensitive girl Luke found when she was very young, Owen Skywalker: Luke’s son with Mara Jade, and Baila Solo: Leia and Han’s daughter.
Baila sympathizes with the refugees since Alderaan was her mother’s homeworld, Owen sympathizes with the tribes since he know history and understands how quickly refugees can become colonizers, and Rey wants to find a way to satisfy everyone.
These three young padawans must unite when remnants of the Old Empire led by a deranged former Inquisitor find their way to Tython.
The Imperial Remnants start to sew discord between the tribes and the refugees, and the Jedi must unite both sides to drive the Remnants away and make peace on their world.

Star Wars: Stormbreaker
The Second Order, a rouge state/terrorist organization created from the remnants of the Old Empire, is conducting attacks on the Outer Rim, trying to gain a foothold and establish themselves in a legitimate way. As they do this, they kidnap children and brainwash them into being their soldiers.
One of these Stormtroopers is FN-2187. But everything changes for FN-2187 when they are ordered to fire on civilians and he cannot bring himself to shoot.
Allying with a captured Alliance pilot named Poe Dameron, Fn-2187, named Finn by Poe, escapes, and is declared a traitor by the Second Order. But it’s too late, Finn’s rebellion has planted a seed.
Recognized as Force Sensitive, Poe takes Finn to Tython where he recieves training from Luke and makes friends with Rey, Owen and Baila. As he does, seeds of rebellion start to grow among the Stormtroopers of the Second Order.
At first it’s just one or two runnaways, but slowly something starts to grow within the ranks. Whispered words and shared concerns. Those who want to fight back, and they find friendship and family with each other. The Second Order is beginning to rot from within as more soldiers begin to break away from the brainwashing and propoganda.
It all comes to a head when Finn returns, now a trained Jedi, alongside Poe, and finds a secret rebellion waiting for him.
“We all knew it was wrong. What we were doing. But you... you were the first one to do something about it. The Stormtrooper who didn’t shoot.”
Finn received his first name when he left the Second Order. He receives his second when he returns to destroy it.
Stormbreaker. Finn Stormbreaker.

Star Wars: Red Blade
Tifa Venta is a young Zeltron girl, and a Force Sensitive. Forced to flee her home when the Second Order comes calling to kidnap her and turn her into a weapon, Tifa knows she needs to get to Tython where she will be safe among the Jedi. But being a near penniless vagabond, she doesn’t have a lot of prospects, and the Second Order is closing in.
Enter Hawk, a mysterious stranger with a sealed lightsaber whom Tifa meets while fleeing the Madalorians that the Second Order hired to help capture her. While at first dismissive of her, Hawk seems to compulsively help her when he realizes her story, and promises to get her to Tython.
Among the Madalorians is Temjin Na’Khan, a warrior who fights with a pure Beskar sword, and finds himself bored of a world that seems to offer no challenges. However, he becomes obsessed with Hawk when he kills two Madalorians while refusing to draw his lightsaber.
What follows is a chase across the galaxy as Hawk desperately tries to get Tifa to Tython while dodging danger at ever step.
Eventually, Hawk’s backstory is revealed. He was an Imperial Inquisitor who began training at the age of ten, rather unusual. Hawk broke when, in the course of his duty, was ordered to kill two children of an enemy senator. Hawk obeyed the order.
Following that, he sealed his lightsaber and fled the empire, resolving to find a place to die in the Outer Rim.
Eventually, Tifa is kidnapped by the Second Order, and Hawk rushes to her rescue. In the course of the battle, Hawk finally draws his crimson lightsaber, and frees Tifa, culminating in a final clash with Temujin.

               ─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
“Oh my god,” you groaned. “Not even the French know how to use the damn Subjonctif. Why do I need to know?”
When the first two tries at conjugating your verbs proved unsuccessful, tempers frayed even more. You shucked your pen over your shoulder and burrowed your face in your arms.
“That’s it. I give up. This is my capitulation. France can own my soul.”
Peter quirked a brow as you ripped out a white sheet of paper and waved it half-heartedly. This had been your fourth time declaring defeat that night and it was barely 10 o’clock. Peter had kept quiet the whole time, watching in amusement as you navigated between doing Math homework and studying for your French test.
At some point, he even caught you rattling off numbers in French under your breath, and he was 90% sure you weren’t even aware of it.
Peter had suggested multiple times that you should take a break, but you had only dismissed him with a lazy wave and a string of uncoherent French vocabulary. So for the most part, Peter stayed out of it. He knew that he couldn’t help you anyway since he took Spanish.
Only now, you were humming what sounded a lot like a drunker version of the national anthem of France, so Peter picked up the pen that you had tossed on his chest and rolled out of his bunk bed to shuffle over to where you sat at his desk.
He wrapped his arms around your shoulders and rested his cheek against the top of your head. “This bad?”
“Have you not been here for the last four hours?” Your voice came out muffled. “I’m this close to selling my identity to avoid that stupid test tomorrow.”
Peter fought off a smile. “Oh yeah?” You nodded. “Where would you go then without an identity and any money?”
You finally lifted your head and looked up at Peter’s face. “First of all, rude. Second of all—” You rolled back on Peter’s chair and stared at the crumpled world map tossed on the ground. You couldn’t remember a time where it was properly stored anywhere else. It made you wonder if Peter had intentionally placed it there as an artistic choice, but you weren’t here to question his taste.
You bent down to pick it up, dusting some chips crumbs off it while laying it on the desk. “How about Finland?”
“You hate the cold,” Peter said flatly and leaned against the desk. “How about Italy?”
You considered it. “Sounds like heaven. But it’s too close to France.”
“So?” You gave him a long look until Peter snorted. “Just stay in the south then.”
“Can’t. The temptation’s too big. They have baguettes and croissants, Peter. I’m not strong enough to resist that.”
Peter hummed slowly and bent down to hook his chin over your shoulder. He scanned the map for a moment, then said, “Stay on this side of the planet then. Ever been to Brazil?”
You shook your head. “I haven’t, but it does sound promising. Brazil is beautiful.” You jumped to your feet. The idea of running away to travel and see the world sent waves of bliss through your body. The map was clutched to your chest. “Can you imagine living in a warm place near the ocean, watching the sunset on the beach and learning about the culture? The gorgeous nature? Trying out new food? That sounds like a dream!”
Peter donned a half grin. He made a little gesture at his chest that you thought was supposed to mean he was curtsying or bowing or something sarcastically gentleman-like. “You’re welcome, babe.”
You were positively beaming, whirling around and imagining another life for you, when you suddenly froze and your face dropped. Peter instantly pushed himself off the desk, expression worried. “What? What’s wrong?”
“I just realized that you…well, that you exist.”
Peter gave you a weird look. “Are you being a terrible flirt or is this another existential crisis?”
“Neither.” You laughed. “I meant, what about you? If I go to Brazil, what will happen to us? Will you stay here?”
Peter tilted his head and pursed his lips like he was actually thinking about it. He gave you a shrug before stepping forward and pulling the map out of your grip. It was carelessly discarded to its usual spot before he took both your hands and brought them to his lips.
“If this actually were a real plan and you’d really leave for Brazil…I’d come with you,” Peter said, an honest smile curving his lips.
“Oh?” You smiled back.
He nodded and stepped forward, forcing you to walk backward until your back hit the wall. He let go of your right hand to reach behind you and just with the flick of a switch the entire room darkened—only leaving faint moonlight to pool through the open window. Peter flicked another switch and you let out a soft gasp. Above you, fairy lights glowed brightly in the dark, lightening up the whole room. They were attached to the ceiling, dangling from the walls and spreading wide above your heads. They looked like stars taken straight from the night sky.
“Peter, this is beautiful.” Your voice was barely a whisper. “When did you—Did you use web shooters to glue them up there?”
Peter grinned. “Do you like it? I did it while you were studying.” Your heart melted at the sight of his nervous smile. “I actually wanted it to be a surprise, but you were so caught up with French. I knew you wouldn’t notice anyway.”
Peter reached for your other hand, gently pulling you toward the middle of his small bedroom. You followed without hesitation, keeping your gaze on Peter’s face as it was framed in a soft yellow light. He placed your hands on his shoulders and settled his own on your hips, pulling you closer. Instinctively, you wrapped your arms around Peter’s neck and gazed into his eyes. As if he couldn’t help himself, Peter immediately leaned forward and captured your lips in a tender kiss.
“I’d come with you and we would do everything you just mentioned,” he mumbled against your mouth and slowly began to sway your bodies. “Food, music, everything. We’d go to the beach to watch the sunset. We would stay until it would be dark and we could see all the stars.”
You sighed fondly. The thought of it was so grand; it left you unbelievably happy despite the tug on your heartstrings. Resting your cheek on Peter’s shoulder, you wrapped your arms around his torso and took in his familiar scent. “What else would we do?”
Peter didn’t need to think about it. “You’d dance in my arms like you are right now and we’d keep the music playing. We’d dance underneath the stars and act like there’s nobody else around.”
“I’d like that,” you said, eyes closing to focus on Peter’s voice and his hands on your waist. “How long would we stay out there?”
“All night,” Peter replied softly. “We’d keep dancing till the break of dawn and till the music’s out. We’d do it all night long.”
“All night long?” You echoed and lifted your head, meeting Peter’s dreamy gaze. A grin swept over your lips. “That’s a lot of dancing, Parker. You think you can keep up?”
Peter shrugged, a fond smile spreading over his face. “That’s all I want to do. All night long. Feel the rhythm in your coração.”
Your mouth fell agape. Peter had to stifle a laugh. “Since when do you speak Portuguese?”
He shrugged as if it was nothing, but you could clearly see the faint blush creeping up his neck. “Since I learnt that my girlfriend wants to run away to Brazil, leaving me with no choice but to follow.”
“You’re full of surprises,” you said, chuckling and shaking your head. “But you’d really do that for me? You’d just up and leave to illegally live with me in Brazil and dance the night away?”
Peter pressed a tender kiss to the corner of your lips, his eyes were aglow with love. “Don’t tell the others I said this, but I’d follow you anywhere.”
You were pretty sure the world had stopped spinning right then and there. Everything halted to stare at the boy in front of you in awe.
“What are you doing?” Peter asked, sounding surprised and almost betrayed as you slipped out of his arms and headed for the desk.
“If you can learn some Portuguese because I want to commit identity fraud, then I can get my shit together and conjugate these verbs.” You scrambled for your pen and flipped open your notebook. “Besides, maybe we can also run away to France while we’re at it.”
“I see.” Peter plopped on his bed, crossing his arms behind his head. “Anything for baguettes and croissants.”
You sent him a wink over your shoulder and repeated, “Anything for baguettes and croissants.” It sounded like a promise.

Eurovision 2008 my top 43
Tumblr media
Hello, and welcome to another episode of this ESC top series, and I go back to May 20, 22 and 24, when the 53rd edition of the contest was held in Belgrade, Serbia, after Marija Šerifović’s victory in Helsinki last year. This year was the first to have 2 semifinals, in order to split the voting and to improve the chances of other countries, which IMO was the best decision ever made, also, MORE ESC SHOWS Y’ALL. While Austria withdrew from the contest, San Marino and Azerbaijan said hello and entered for the first time, making a total of 43 countries, the highest number of countries ever. The contest was won by Russia with Dima Bilan and the song Believe, making this their first ever victory and the last to date. And now, let’s review all the songs!
1st Place: UKRAINE/Ani Lorak-Shady lady (Real Placing: 2nd-230 points)
I must say that I’ve never though this would be my winner this year, but now I see it’s one of the best entries that year, her voice is so strong and the performance is so stunning, also she’s so beautiful and I love the music so much, this song inspires me so much and it’s very catchy. This should’ve been an amazing winner that night.
2nd Place: PORTUGAL/Vânia Fernandes-Senhora do mar (Negras águas) (Real Placing: 13th-69 points)
AN EPIC SONG! Her voice is so perfect, the music is beautiful and the performance is so stunning, I don’t know how this song didn’t finish higher on the night, and finished below songs that are some serious business. I’M IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG.
3rd Place: GREECE/Kalomira-Secret combination (Real Placing: 3rd-218 points)
Oh I love this song, the music has the Greek elements that I love in a pop song, also her attitude matches the song perfectly and she’s so beautiful, also I’m in love with her dress. The performance is so cool and yeah, a deserved 3rd place.
4th Place: ISRAEL/Boaz Ma’uda-The fire in your eyes (Real Placing: 9th-124 points)
AWWWWW HIS VOICE IS SO KAJDJKKL, so sweet, he’s so handsome and this entry makes me feel tears in my eyes because it’s so beautiful, the music is very good and it makes me feel calm as well, the fact it’s in Hebrew makes this more stunning.
5th Place: ARMENIA/Sirusho-Qélé, qélé (Real Placing: 4th-199 points)
AN EPIC SONG, and one of my fave Armenian entries in the contest, her voice is nice, the music is so cool and I love the performance, she’s so stunning and it’s a very catchy song.
6th Place: NORWAY/Maria Haukaas Storeng-Hold on, be strong (Real Placing: 5th-182 points)
WHAT A SINGER SHE IS, the music is so lovely and her voice is so strong, the lyrics are good as well and wow, I’m impressed by this song, I love it so much and the performance is so memorable because of that hand movement.
7th Place: SERBIA/Jelena Tomašević feat. Bora Dugić-Oro (Real Placing: 6th-160 points)
Another magical Serbian song, the music is lovely and her voice is out of this world, the staging is so perfect for this song, I’m always speechless for this song, it’s so wonderful.
8th Place: SWEDEN/Charlotte Perelli-Hero (Real Placing: 18th-47 points)
A former winner returning to the contest with a disastrous result, her voice is so good again as in 1999, the music is so good and I find it a bit nostalgic because it makes me cry, also the lyrics are relatable for me. Even if I would’ve preferred Sanna Nielsen, this song has charm.
9th Place: SAN MARINO/Miodio-Complice (Real Placing: 19th SF1-5 points/last)
WHY EUROPE WHY? This song is such a masterpiece, and it finished last in it’s semi? I can’t understand, the music is so nice and pleasant, his voice is soo cool and the performance is cute, also, a nice debut for San Marino.
10th Place: MALTA/Morena-Vodka (Real Placing: 14th SF2-38 points)
I’m so crazy about this song, at first I found it weird, but now, it’s a guilty pleasure, the music is so awesome and epic, her voice is average but pleasant, also the performance is good. VODKA
11th Place: ICELAND/Euroband-This is my life (Real Placing: 14th-64 points)
PURE EURODANCE, and I love this, they are amazing, the staging is effective and I’m in love with the music, also extra love for Hera Björk which is a backing singer. One of my favorite 00′s entries.
12th Place: TURKEY/Mor ve Ötesi-Deli (Real Placing: 7th-138 points)
Oh... THIS IS AN AWESOME SONG, I love this one so much, and the music is so perfect as well, so hypnotizing, and yeah, he sings so well and yeah, a strong rock song.
13th Place: FINLAND/Teräsbetoni-Missä miehet ratsastaa (Real Placing: 22nd-35 points)
PURE ROCK FROM FINLAND AGAIN, the music is so perfect and the lead singer’s voice is so cool, I love the performance and wow, I don’t understand how this song finished so low.
14th Place: BULGARIA/Deep Zone and Balthazar-DJ, take me away (Real Placing: 11th SF2-56 points)
Wow, the music here is so crazy, has a lot of changes and that’s what I like about this one, her voice could’ve been better, but still, I love the performance so much and yeah, one of my fave Bulgarian entries ever.
15th Place: ALBANIA/Olta Bolka-Zemrën e lamë peng (Real Placing: 17th-55 points)
Another lovely ballad with a rock touch that makes this so smooth, her voice is so good and the performance is so cute, and the chorus here is so powerful that it’s mesmerizing, what a beautiful song.
16th Place: CYPRUS/Evdokia Kali-Femme fatale (Real Placing: 15th SF2-36 points)
WHY? This song has some great Greek sounds to it, I love the music so much and her voice is so good, the performance is so lovely and I like this a lot. I love her attitude on the stage, also her dress is lovely.
17th Place: POLAND/Isis Gee-For life (Real Placing: 24th-14 points)
Another lovely ballad, her voice is so cute and the performance is magical and precious, the music is so smooth and I’m in love with her dress, what a perfect show. Also the lyrics are so cute.
18th Place: SPAIN/Rodolfo Chikilicuatre-Baila el Chiki Chiki (Real Placing: 16th-55 points)
OH THIS ENTRY, IT’S SO GOOD AND BAD AT THE SAME TIME, this song is my childhood, the performance is so hilarious, the lyrics are so crazy and wow, the music is so 08. One of the first ESC entries I heard.
19th Place: SWITZERLAND/Paolo Meneguzzi-Era stupendo (Real Placing: 13th SF2-47 points)
An Italian song, and it’s so good, the key change is so brilliant and perfect, his voice could’ve been better actually, but still doesn’t change the fact that it’s a very good song.
20th Place: ROMANIA/Nico & Vlad-Pe-o margine de lume (Real Placing: 20th-45 points)
A lovely ballad, his voice is so stunning, wish I could say the same about her voice, but still, I like it, the performance is so cute and he’s so handsome, the music is lovely and the lyrics are good as well.
21st Place: FRANCE/Sébastien Tellier-Divine (Real Placing: 19th-47 points)
Another epic song, France sending joke songs is so weird, and this works so well for me, his voice is curious and I love the performance, the cart and the ball are perfect, as well as the backing singers, such a relaxing song.
22nd Place: HUNGARY/Csésy-Candlelight (Real Placing: 19th SF2-6 points/last)
Many years ago I though this was boring, but now I appreciate this song so much, her voice is so good and her dress is lovely, an amazing performance as well. Also, she looks like Jamala doesn’t she?
23rd Place: ANDORRA/Gisela-Casanova (Real Placing: 16th SF1-22 points)
Another song that I love from Andorra, her voice is so good and the music is lovely, my problem here is her dress, she looks like a leaf fairy, overall this song is so catchy and memorable.
24th Place: SLOVENIA/Rebeka Dremelj-Vrag naj vzame (Real Placing: 11th SF1-36 points)
This song is so catchy and I enjoy it so much, the singer’s voice is good and the music is good as well, the performance is good, so much green but the dancing is so memorable.
25th Place: RUSSIA/Dima Bilan-Believe (Real Placing: 1st-272 points)
The winning song, and I have to say, it’s one of my least favorite winners ever, his voice is so annoying here, the performance is perfect, and the music is good, but still, I don’t think this was the right winner that year.
26th Place: LITHUANIA/Jeronimas Milius-Nomads in the night (Real Placing: 16th SF2-30 points)
This song is like something out of the Phantom of the Opera, his voice is so good, maybe the performance wasn’t the best, but the music is so perfect and I love it.
27th Place: CZECH REPUBLIC/Tereza Kerndlová-Have some fun (Real Placing: 18th SF2-9 points)
This is a very guilty pleasure for me, the music is so cool and her voice isn’t the best but I love this, the performance is so shiny and the lyrics are bad, but reminds me of the music I heard those years, I feel so old.
28th Place: GEORGIA/Diana Gurtskaya-Peace will come (Real Placing: 11th-83 points)
Oh a heartbreaking and sad song, her voice is so good and the performance is amazing, the music here is very good as well, what a good song, I like it so much.
29th Place: IRELAND/Dustin the Turkey-Irelande douze pointe (Real Placing: 15th SF1-22 points)
Another entry that is very weird, and that’s what make me like it, the lyrics are so shady and funny, the performance is too much for me but this works for this song.
30th Place: BELGIUM/Ishtar-O julissi (Real Placing: 17th SF1-16 points)
The music here is so good, and another imaginary language song, and it’s good because it’s so relaxing, maybe with another performance this would’ve been better.
31st Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Hind-Your heart belongs to me (Real Placing: 13th SF1-27 points)
Another very good song with a nice singer and the music is so amazing, I think this song deserved so much more than it got, sadly, this was in a quite strong SF.
32nd Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Andy Abraham-Even if (Real Placing: 25th-14 points/last)
Aww the music here is so lovely, also he has a very strong voice and the performance was very good, I don’t understand why this came last because this had a lot of feeling on it.
33rd Place: CROATIA/Kraljevi Ulice and 75 cents-Romanca (Real Placing: 21st-44 points)
I have to say that I love the old man on stage, and the music here is very good and it’s so soothing, also the voice of the lead singer makes me crazy, but there’s something here that impides me to place this entry higher, the last part of the song makes me smile although.
34th Place: LATVIA/Pirates of the Sea-Wolves of the sea (Real Placing: 12th-83 points)
Another case of a very bad song that it’s so good at the same time, I enjoy it and makes me smile so much, the performance is everything here, I don’t know what to think of this, but I like it somehow.
35th Place: DENMARK/Simon Mathew-All night long (Real Placing: 15th-60 points)
Aww this is a lovely song, sadly I don’t like it so much because there’s something in the music I can’t stand, he has a lot of charisma and he’s very cute, a simple song overall.
36th Place: GERMANY/No Angels-Disappear (Real Placing: 23rd-14 points)
At first I loved this song because of the music, because it’s very good, but the voices are the problem here, also the performance was a bit of a letdown for a song like this. This song had a lot of potential, but it was wasted because of the show.
37th Place: FYR MACEDONIA/Tamara, Vrčak & Adrian-Let me love you (Real Placing: 10th SF2-64 points)
This is a nice song, but maybe there were too many things happening at the same time in the song, the music is so good and they are amazing, but I can’t find a hook for me in this song.
38th Place: BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA/Laka-Pokušaj (Real Placing: 10th-110 points)
Another song that is very weird, his voice is interesting and the performance captures me, but every time I try, I can’t like this song, I find it annoying and a bit exaggerated, still, the performance is memorable.
39th Place: MOLDOVA/Geta Burlacu-A century of love (Real Placing: 12th SF1-36 points)
This song is like elevator music, relaxing and pleasant, but maybe too relaxing that it bores me a little bit, her song is very good but the performance was so weird, this needed a simple performance to improve it’s chances.
40th Place: ESTONIA/Kreisiraadio-Leto svet (Real Placing: 18th SF1-8 points)
WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THIS SONG, this is bad, but it’s too bad that is somehow good, at least this is a funny song because it has no sense, and the performance is really weird.
41st Place: MONTENEGRO/Stefan Filipović-Zauvijek volim te (Real Placing: 14th SF1-23 points)
This is one of the songs I absolutely forget about from this year, the music is nice but this doesn’t go anywhere, his voice is cool but sadly, this song isn’t remarkable.
42nd Place: AZERBAIJAN/Elnur & Samir-Day after day (Real Placing: 8th-132 points)
Oh no... this song is so weird for me, the music is good but sadly this has a lot of distracting elements and that makes the song a bit over the place, the performance is epic, and at some point I’m annoyed by their voices, an average debut for Azerbaijan IMO.
43rd Place: BELARUS/Ruslan Alekhno-Hasta la vista (Real Placing: 17th SF2-27 points)
This song sounds promising and the intro is wonderful, but this turn in a very annoying, mediocre and boring song, which is sad because this has potential. Also his pronunciation is bad and his voice isn’t pleasant for me.

Four-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo is one of the greatest artists in international music today, a creative force with thirteen albums to her name.
Time Magazine has called her "Africa's premier diva". The BBC has included her in its list of the continent's 50 most iconic figures, and in 2011 The Guardian listed her as one of their Top 100 Most Inspiring Women in the World. Forbes Magazine has ranked Angelique as the first woman in their list of the Most Powerful Celebrities in Africa. She is the recent recipient of the prestigious 2015 Crystal Award given by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the 2016 Amnesty International Ambassador of Conscience Award, and the 2018 German Sustainability Award.
As a performer, her striking voice, stage presence and fluency in multiple cultures and languages have won respect from her peers and expanded her following across national borders. Kidjo has cross-pollinated the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America.
Angelique also travels the world advocating on behalf of children in her capacity as a UNICEF and OXFAM goodwill Ambassador. At the G7 Summit in 2019, President Macron of France named Kidjo as the spokesperson for the AFAWA initiative (Affirmative Finance Action for Women in Africa) to help close the financing gap for women entrepreneurs in Africa. She has also created her own charitable foundation, Batonga, dedicated to support the education of young girls in Africa.
After exploring the roads of Africa's diaspora — through Brazil, Cuba and The United States — and offering a refreshing and electrifying take on the Talking Heads album Remain In Light (called “Transformative” by the New York Times, “Visionary” by NPR Music, “Stunning” by Rolling Stone, and “one of the year’s most vibrant albums” by the Washington Post), the French-Beninese singer is now reflecting on an icon of the Americas, celebrated salsa singer Celia Cruz.
Kidjo’s album Celia (April 19 - Verve/Universal Music France) divests itself of the glamour to investigate the African roots of the Cuban-born woman who became the "Queen" of salsa. Celia was recorded in New York and Paris, produced by David Donatien and mixed by Russell Elevado (D’Angelo, Kamasi Washington). Over the course of 10 beloved songs from Cruz’s extensive catalog but with special focus on her work from the 1950s, Angelique’s voice soars in lockstep with a grand presentation of rhythmic touchstones that delve deep into the history of music from Africa and it’s influence on the music of Cuba. Each song celebrates this idea – from the tight afro-beat groove of “Baila Yemaja,” the high octane take on “Quimbara,” the frantic energy of “Bemba Colora” to “Oya Diosa,” a lushly orchestrated ballad.
Angélique’s interpretation of The Talking Heads’ classic 1980 album, Remain in Light, was recorded with superstar producer Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Rolling Stones, Beyoncé), taking classic songs such as "Crosseyed and Painless," "Once in a Lifetime," and "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)" and reinterpreting them with electrifying rhythms, African guitars, and layered backing vocals.
Her star-studded album DJIN DJIN won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Album in 2008, and her album OYO was nominated for the same award in 2011. In January 2014 Angélique’s first book, a memoir titled Spirit Rising: My Life, My Music (Harper Collins) and her twelfth album, EVE (Savoy/429 Records), were released to critical acclaim. EVE later went on to win the Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in 2015, and her historic, orchestral album Sings with the Orchestre Philharmonique Du Luxembourg (Savoy/429 Records) won a Grammy for Best World Music Album in 2016.
Angelique has gone on to perform this genre-bending work with several international orchestras and symphonies including the Bruckner Orchestra, The Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and the Philharmonie de Paris. Her collaboration with Philip Glass, IFÉ: Three Yorùbá Songs, made its US debut to a sold out concert with the San Francisco Symphony in June 2015. In 2019, Angelique helped Philip Glass premiere his latest work, Symphony #12 “Lodger”, a symphonic re-imaging of the David Bowie album of the same name, at a sold out performance at the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In addition to performing this new orchestral concert, Angelique continues to tour globally performing the high-energy concert she’s become famous for with her four-piece band.
