Nightmare changing Killer's soul shape implies that Dream can do it as well.

Killer has hiding spots all over the castle for more than one reason. It's fine messing with someone and being annoying. He gets off pretty lightly with that most of the time. When it comes to Dream that is not the case.

Mockery is not a form of flattery and Dream takes his image very seriously. A protector, a golden beacon of light he will not be outshined by some reject his brother has in his palms. Not to say that rejects are bad, they're very cute and easily moldable.

Hard to break because they're so solid in their self hatred that it keeps them together. It grounds them to the world when it's trying to be kind and understanding. Dream gets it, he gets it and he knows how to deal with it.
