❝   THIS MIGHT BE THE FIRST YEAR SINCE SHACKLEBOLT'S RESIGNATION that the ministr gala has managed to avoid being overshadowed by a truly terrible event in the weeks preceeding it. minister karkaroff was asked late last month whether he was excited to share the work that his ministry has done over the past year with the public but remained characteristically tight lipped about what we could expect to see ! instead, he praised the organisational team - overseen this year by his own wife, mrs eulalia karkaroff - for their hard work starting in late june and the department volunteers for putting together a truly comprehensive schedule of presentations for the night. an anonymous ministry official has informed us that with this years reduced auror presence, funding for the event was able to be increased dramatically, ensuring world class cuisine, even more expensive bars and the presence of one of the most distinguished orchestras in london. say what you will about the guestlist ( and one rita skeeter certainly will ), but one thing is for certain : the ninth ministry gala is set to be one of the best we've ever had ! ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

nine years ago, the annual ministry gala was envisioned by kingsley shacklebolt and his closest advisors as being a way to showcase the many ways in which they had improved on the ministry of magic itself, following not only lord voldemort's rule but a string of poor ministers. the general public needed something like the gala, in the months following the end of the second wixen war. their trust in the government and the people in running their country was almost non-existent and it was important to show them that there were real changes being made and that they, in turn, were all for the better. over a few years the gala managed to carve out a very specific place for itself within society - tickets for the event held on the first weekend every august are in hot demand with everyone hoping for the opportunity to see, firsthand, the changes made across departments since the end of the war.

an automatic invite is issued on heavy parchment paper to ministry officials and those that fought in the battle of hogwarts every year, allowing them to bring a plus one, if they so desire. the remainder of the seats are randomly allocated to 150 members of the british wixen community, with those invites arriving no later than two weeks before the gala itself, by owl. this year, french wixen chefs have been hired from overseas to cater the event - the four course meal is, as always, to die for, and will be served early in the evening so that the tables and chairs can be banished to make room for the atrium level dancefloor where guests will be able to slow dance ( or sway ) to the tune of orchestral music. there is never any shortage of alcohol to be found at the several tended bars, but servers dressed in beautiful blue robes with golden trim are at hand to provide drinks to anyone who can't find the time between conversation to head on over to one of them. department heads ( of every level except the department of mysteries which remains closed to the public ) are expected - as they are each year - to rehearse ten minute long presentations for interested guests to enjoy, making themselves free at the end of the five they must perform over the course of the night to answer any question thrown their way. of course, said presentations have been heavily edited in advance to make sure that each department is putting their absolute best foot forward - without making the minister of magic look anything other than the best.

though the year before last saw the famous dumbledore's army delegated to the far corner of the atrium and last year saw them disinvited altogether, this is the year where it becomes most apparent that things have changed underneath antonin karkaroff. before now, it could have been construed as budget cuts or even a simple change, for the better, for how the young heroes were presented to the public. most civilians assumed that minister karkaroff, like his most vocal opponent, flavia scrimgeour, disliked the idea of placing anyone onto a pedastal, false idols and all that. before his appointment, the members of the da who took voldemort's life and brought an end to the second war were treated like celebrities - vip lanyards, pride of place at the head table with the minister of magic, private tours of the ministry... they shone, on a night like this. last year it could still be seen, not well, but in a way that made sense. this year their total exclusion is sure to have tongues wagging throughout the night.

OUT OF CHARACTER : 

it's time ! the ninth annual ministry gala is upon us and sees a very important continuation from last years most intentional snub. it's actually a fairly big deal that dumbledore's army have now been left off of the guest list two years in a row, and i don't want to understate it - they mightn't be here tonight, at least depending on how their preparations for this inevitability went, but they are still ... wix of honor, in their own way. it's up to you whether your non-da affiliated characters are simply happy to be here & enjoying the event or whether that enjoyment is coming with a healthy dose of gossip on the side.

it’ll last for two weeks, but i’m not going to request the pausing of current threads provided that event threads are appropriately tagged and differentiated from them.

much like last year, the only publicly known members of the da who received an invite were the ones who would have ( believably ) been issued an invite due to being seen as an important figure in the wix world in their own right. the only other option for them remains being the plus one of another character, and once again, i will ask you guys to take that snub and use it for your writing ! it is an intentional slight and the loophole shouldn't be exploited ! membrs of the da that attend will not receive the sort of special treatment they would have received under the shacklebolt cabinet and will find most high ranking ministry officials to be kind of distant.

it was a somewhat morbid sense of curiosity that had led to kasper’s decision to attend the memorial - he hadn’t gone to hogwarts, he hadn’t participated in the battle, but he’d certainly heard enough about it to gain his attention. so he’d decided to check it out, maybe he’d even check out the quidditch match. he hadn’t planned to interact with anyone, let alone gracie, but he’d spotted her crying earlier and he hadn’t been able to get the sight out of his mind. he’d never been particularly good when it came to comforting people, so he’d opted to not even try. instead he’d returned to his guest quarters where he’d crafted a metal rose.

once he had the rose in hand, he’d sought her out. clearing his throat, he waited for her to look up before he spoke. “this is for you,” he smiled, holding out the delicately crafted flower.

RIEL DELACOUR  is attending Madam Rosmerta’s Murder Mystery Dinner with FLEUR DELACOUR-WEASLEY and BILL WEASLEY dressed as ‘A FRENCH PERSON’ to make a subtle statement against appropriation in hallow’s eve costumes and an excuse to smoke throughout the evening in secret. at least they brought real baguettes

Riel didn’t wish to put much effort into their costume. Not only did they not have the time to go out and pick out something new, they just lacked the creativity to pull together something worth noticing. They also weren’t going to be noticed standing next to Fleur all night, that was certain. 

They chose the blue button down, traditionally a spring or summer color, and the khaki dress pants because when home, Riel couldn’t walk down the street without seeing some business casual wix dressed in that exact outfit with only slight variation. One variation was the long blazer, cardigan, or peacoat, which Riel was not willing to commit to for an entire evening spent at a dinner party. They decided that strappy black heels would make the outfit a little more formal while also adding height, which Riel would need without doubt. 

The cigarette was for their sanity; Fleur hated to see them smoke, but could their big sister really complain when it was part of the costume? Riel had learned early on to enchant their outfits so that the smell of cigarettes wouldn’t linger, but Fleur, being the older sibling, always knew everything. It started out as a habit they picked up in school to fit in and stay sharp; now it was a way to back out of conversations and turn off their racing thoughts. 

Baguettes were maybe not the best planned thing to bring to a dinner party. If Riel was actually good at planning, they would have brought decorative fake baguettes, enchanted them to smell like real fresh bread, and not have had to tote them around all evening. But now if felt like if they put the baguettes down their outfit wouldn’t make sense and they’d be wasting the bread.

on  may  29th,  nox  opened  its  doors  for  the  first  time  to  welcome  hundreds  of  residents  from  all  over  the  world,  some  even  traveling  from  far  away  galaxies.  last  year,  on  may  29th  of  2019,  a  festival  was  held  in  honor  of  the  first  successful  year  of  nox  being  opened,  and  it  was  officially  declared  that  every  year,  on  may  29th,  a  festival  would  be  held  to  celebrate  nox’s  anniversary.   this  year,  its  resident’s  hopes  to  make  the  festival  more  epic  then  the  last  with  businesses  and  different  sector’s  coming  together  to  contribute  to  the  festivities  and  show  the  unity  of  nox’s  people. 

**  the  following  event  will  be  a  discord  event  !!  what  this  means  is  that  all  writing  will  be  done  in  a  seperate  server  where  the  admins  have  set  up  a  system  that  will  hopefully  make  writing  on  discord  as  effective  as  on  tumblr  !!  this  is  to  encourage  people  who  normally  cannot  post  on  the  dash  to  try  something  more  accessible  and  convenient  for  everyone  !!   if  you  have  any  concerns  please  contact  the  main  or  an  admin  on  discord  !!

many  of  the  parts  of  the  city  will  be  partaking  in  the  festivities  with  some  sectors  hosting  events  and  demonstrations  that’ll  be  unique  in  their  own  way  !!  below  you  will  find  an  itinerary  for  the  events  that  will  be  taking  place,  which  you  character  is  more  then  welcome  to  either  help  their  respective  teams,  volunteer  at  other  locations,  or  just  roam  around  as  a  resident  !!  any  questions  can  be  directed  within  the  ooc  chat  or  here  at  the  main  !!

xavier’s  school  for  the  gifted:  xavier’s  will  be  hosting  live  team  and  individual  tournament  matches  demonstrated  by  their  students.  the  matches  will  be  monitored  by  scott  summers,  emma  frost,  and  jean  grey  to  first  and  foremost   guarantee  the  safety  of  their  students,  but  also  the  spectators.  any  MUTANT  enrolled  within  the  academy  is  allowed  to  participate  but  anyone  is  allowed  to  watch.  

valoria  park:  the  epicenter  of  nox  will  be  the  main  location  of  the  event  and  here  you  will  find  everything  ranging  from  fun  festival  games  such  as  dunk  tank  and  bean  bag  tosses,  to  delicious  and  diverse  food  stalls  manned  by  local  residents  and  nox’s  favorite  restaurants.  nox’s  resident  film  club  will  be  hosting  movies  outdoor  movies  all  day  for  residents  to  enjoy  while  munching  down  on  their  favorite  foods  !!  additionally,  some  of  nox’s  most  notorious  magicians  will  be  hosting  various  spectacular  magic  shows  that  will  surely  stun  audiences  !!  you  don’t  want  to  miss  it !!

titan’s  tower:  the  titans  have  opened  their  doors  to  allow  residents  to  partake  in  some  neat  and  equally  thrilling  training  simulations.  the  simulation  will  take  you  through  a  training  course  to  give  you  the  experience  of  being  a  hero  and  to  see  firsthand  how  the  titans  prepare  for  different  threats  !!  if  that’s  a  little  too  action  packed  for  your  taste,  then  why  not  try  getting  your  fortune  read  by  the  tantalizing  raven, but  be  warned,  you  might  not  like  what  you  see  !!

museum  of  heroics:  since  the  anniversary  festival  is  meant  to  celebrate  the  historic  opening  of   nox,  it’s  only  reasonable  to  celebrate  nox’s  very  own  museum  of  heroics  which  seeks  to  preserve  pivotal  moments  in  heroic  history.  hosted  by  the  museum’s  curator  diana  prince  and  her  sister,  cassandra  sandsmark,  the  museum  of  heroics  will  be  opening  its  doors  free  of  charge  to  all  residents  and  will  additionally  host  an  arts  and  crafts  center  for  anyone  to  take  part  in  !!  

nox  labs:  if  you’re  looking  for  something  more  techy  and  futuristic,  why  not  stop  by  nox  labs  for  it’s  very  first  technology  expo  ??  hosted  by  nox’s  very  own  founders,  tony  stark  and  bruce  wayne,  the  tech  expo  will  feature  vast  technologies  that  they  hope  to  one  day  implement  into  nox,  including  ai  prototypes,  and  different  security  related  tech  which  will  hopefully  continue  to  make  nox  a  safe  environment  for  its  residents.  in  addition  to  the  expo,  there  will  also  be  a  panel  held  by  both  tony  stark  and  bruce  wayne  for  anyone  who  still  has  reservations  about  the  safety of  nox. 

festival  security:  is  that  a  bird?  is  that  a  plan?  no !  it’s  a  security  bot  !  the  avengers  and  justice  league  have  teamed  up  to  overlook  the  festival’s  safety,  meaning  that  you  might  catch  spiderman  lassoing  from  building  to  building,  or  the  green  lantern  streaking  across  the  sky  above  as  they  try  and  ensure  the  safety  of  nox’s  residents.  because  nox  is  so  vast,  the  jl  and  avengers  have  requested  volunteers  to  help  and  patrol  the  city,  so if  that  sounds  like  something  you’re  interested,  feel  free  to  help  out  !!

❝   CAN WE JUST ADDRESS THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM ? i know we all love them but are we really believing that the weird sisters just happened to decide their long awaited reunion should occur the exact weekend that the musical dedicated to celestina warbeck opens at merlin’s music hall ? i hope we all see what they’re doing, here ; the final performance of their farewell tour was totally eclipsed by her TRAGIC murder and i’d bet all the galleons in my savings vault that they recognised the opportunity to pay her back in kind a mile away-   ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

IN SCOTLAND : a mere week after news of their surprise reunion tour hit newstands across britain, a stage covered by the strongest of cloaking charms appears out on the moors beyond hogsmeade village. just like the final performance of their farewell tour a few years back, THE WEIRD SISTERS chose the location for the sense of symmetry it gives them - the famous band had a humble start in the depths of hogwarts castle and there’s something to be said for doing it all over again so near to the place where they first began. tickets were a hot commodity when they went on sale last week, with plenty of diehard ( & lifelong ) fans losing out due to the short notice of it all - the first concert of the uk & ireland leg of the tour sold out within the first two minutes and a lot of the wix who didn’t manage to score tickets on the knockturn alley black market in the aftermath have decided to camp outside the stage area anyway, just to be able to hear their favorite songs.  to get barricade, wix had to apparate in to the designated apparition areas or leave their nearby camping grounds or b&b rooms before the sun had even started to rise on saturday the 8th of july. anyone content with a slightly less impressive view of the reunited band is able to turn up a little later in the day, with people trickling in at a steady rate the minute that gates officially opened. there are food stalls and merch stands and people handing ponchos out to anyone who didn’t bring one because the sun was meant to stay shining all day and ultimately let them down, and there’s palpable excitement hanging in the air - everyone present, be they milling around inside the barrier or sitting on picnic blankets outside, feels the promise of new music and a longer term reunion.  IN LONDON : elsewhere, press have had a field day reporting on the unlucky coincidence that sees SPELLBOUND! ( a musical that was written about the late celestina warbeck and starring selina halkirk in the main role ) open on the exact same night as the first reunion concert. it was three years ago - almost to the day - that miss warbeck was murdered by walden macnair for daring to raise money via benefit concert for a charity aimed at providing crucial aid to those afflicted with lycanthropy, a tragedy that just happened to occur on the eve of the weird sisters final show. no doubt the wix in charge of organising both felt the importance of this time of year, but there are plenty of people who feel one or the other should’ve pushed their performance out of respect.  the show is undeniably a masterpiece that took the last two years to perfect, but tickets for the opening night of the musical haven’t sold out just yet, but they’re not far off it - the wwn has been giving them out as competition prizes all week, and even so, plenty of hardcore fans will be in attendance regardless. the daily prophet reported that the minister of magic and his lovely wife will be watching from one of the private booths ( and have made quite a large donation to said charity, too, though how someone on the outside of the karkaroff family circle managed to guess the exact number of figures in said donation is impossible to say ), making it an event that a number of highly influential families across britain feel they should at least show their faces at - that side of the guestlist including FLAVIA SCRIMGEOUR, minister hopeful. in addition to a small portion of the price of admission going to the same charity that celestina last backed, performers will head into the crowds during intermission and accept any further donations that kind souls ( or people looking for an instant good karma buff ) might want to add. 

OUT OF CHARACTER :

in a way, we’ve come full circle ! three years ago, we waved goodbye to the weird sisters on the exact same night that celestina warbeck was murdered at our very FIRST big, big event - the benefit concert launched us into a totally new era of nox and really set the tone for how the rp ended up continuing, in the best of ways. i feel like i’ll always want to memorialise her in various ways because i kind of feel as if i sacrificed her for something great and thus kinda owe the lady something, but i wanted this to be a nox classic as much as it is a sort of remembrance ceremony for her ! the benefit concert & weird sisters combo was also our very first double event, so here we are again, enjoying yet another ! it’s entirely up to you which event your character/s choose to attend, though they can each only attend one. just like the original duo three years ago, some of your characters may have been forced to choose between the event they actually WANTED to attend and the one that their boss highly encouraged that they make an appearance at, and for some that decision has not come easy. please feel free to get as involved as you want to and really explore the various levels to each event - you aren’t isolated to the performances at either one and can set your threads wherever and whenever you like ! 

the event officially begins with the posting of this message and will run for two weeks, right up to the 18th of july. the in game date is technically the 7th through the 9th of july - at least for concertgoers - though both events are taking place on the 8th.

you do not have to pause your current threads, provided that threads taking place over the course of the event are appropriately tagged and differentiated from them. this is a dash & discord hybrid event and you can find categories for both the concert and the musical on the side discord.

❝   AND WHILE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT OF HALLOWEEN, can we take a minute to talk about what's happening up at hogwarts this week ? if any of our listeners aren't in the loop, headmistress mcgonagall has given permission for the graduating class of 2014 to use the great hall for their 'ten year reunion' - an event long expected not to be happening given the, well... everything of their final school year. i mean, it's a little gauche, isn't it ? i understand the sentiment, and i think we can all agree that this is better than the alternative, but are any of them even in the celebratory mood ? perhaps they should've contented themselves with mikaela karkaroff's entry to awestriking halloween parties - hers at least comes without a side of survivors guilt !  ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :

HOGWARTS : though there is a long standing tradition for graduates of hogwarts school of witchcraft & wizardry to reunite ten years to the day of leaving school and celebrate with a blowout sort of party, it's long been accepted that the graduating class of 2014 would have to go without for fairly obvious reasons. the anniversary of the battle of hogwarts lies much too close to the date where students usually sail across the black lake for the final time, and most would agree that it would be in poor taste to celebrate leaving school for good around the time when so many of their classmates lost their lives. with that being said, however, there have always been those few among the 2014 class group who felt like it would be unfair to miss out on such an important milestone - ideas for how to throw their party in a classy way have been thrown around for years, usually by pansy parkinson and friends, but it was actually professor mcgonagall who came up with the bright idea of celebrating around halloween and extended the invitation to her ex students. the hogwarts owls delivered invites scrawled across heavy parchment exactly two weeks before the 31st of october, 2023 - on them she had written plainly enough that they were, in a sense, owed this event. no previous school year had missed out so completely and the heroes of the battle of hogwarts deserved their chance to reminisce without feeling the heavy weight of that day pulling them down. she said that the great hall ( already decorated for the halloween feast that current students would attend earlier in the night ) would make a perfect setting for a halloween themed reunion, and promised the bloody baron would be kept on a tight leash for the duration of the night. it came together rather perfectly.

MIKAELA KARKAROFF'S HOME : mikaela karkaroff doesn't really care about the record, but if she did, she'd probably want it known that her 'blowout halloween party' had been in planning for WEEKS before the class of '14 got their special set of plans. minister karkaroff might have a habit of stealing the thunder of the boy who lived, but the same just can't be said for her. as always, she tried to keep her guest list exclusive with invitations written across parchment dyed black, but her brothers loose lips have led to it being another one of those 'word of mouth' sort of things she hates - a lot of money has been sunk into the event to make sure that it's a night to remember, and she's loathe to share that with any of the more unsavory types. the overall theme is a classic haunted house, her london abode transformed into a creepy set dimly lit by melting candles, thick fog layered over expensive carpet. she's outdone herself in the design of each individual room, going for an obvious 'less is more' sort of strategy - everything is covered in heavy red and black velvets, cobwebs and dust placed to give the impression of neglect, but the 'scares' are well placed & just right. she mightn't have covered a room in fake blood or placed fake skeletons where they might get a jump, but hired ghosts of various periods have made her home their own for the night and have promised a perfect performance. kaela's bar is run by ned weasley and a few of his staff, an intentional annoyance she gleefully arranged, while the same prestigious catering company who deals with the menu of the ministry gala has provided appetisers for guests to enjoy. she even hired an up and coming wixen band - the ghouls - to play for the duration of the night, though she probably didn't expect them to arrive with an actual ghoul in tow.

OUT OF CHARACTER:

happy halloween, nox ! this very special two - in - one event has been in the pipeline for a while, and i hope that you're as excited as i am about the lore implications of it all. i always knew there could be no true 'ten year reunion' for the golden trio characters - it'd just be in poor taste, considering the boh - but i was also aware that i couldn't let that opportunity slip is by, and with halloween being so important in the world of hp ... this idea was born, instead. i couldn't just cater to them for this event, but i can't disguise how hyped up i am for that half !

the event begins as soon as this is posted and continues for two weeks ! the galleon system will continue to run throughout and end the same time, so don't worry about missing out on earning more coins to spend as you wish !

as always : no character is required to attend either event, nor are you required to take part though you are highly encouraged to do so ! the reunion party is, of course, intended to be the smaller of the two events - there's only so many characters in that specific year ( especially thanks to, you know ... the war ) but mikaela's party is much more open, invites spreading by word of mouth thanks to niko !

❝   OVEREAGER VOLUNTEERS FINISH UP THE FINAL PREPARATIONS FOR APPLEBY AUTUMNFEST TONIGHT, with gates opening bright and early tomorrow morning for the thirteenth festival of its kind ! this year, the event will run through the entire month of october, with gregory cotton of the appleby arrows team promising our reporter that everyone involved has done their utmost to ensure the smooth running of this favorite family friendly event, this year. as always, the event is taking place just outside of the village of appleby, and the ministry of magic has aided event organisers in the casting of several strong protection charms to ensure the privacy of the hundreds of visiting wix that are expected to descend once the event kicks off. with entry costing just two galleons for the first week, come one, come all, and enjoy what the appleby autumnfest has to offer you !  ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

the appleby autumnfest is a wixen fall festival endorsed by past & present members of the appleby arrows quidditch team, located just outside of the tiny village that most of them hail from. it was probably conceived, originally, as a way of generating a little bit more money for the team - but after a few years of running, the whole thing paid for itself thanks to the small business owners and eager performers who were all more than happy to take part ! bigger and better than ever, the event is running from the 1st of october through the 31st, this year, and remains a family friendly alternative to the celebrations that will occur along diagon alley a bit later in the month.

the ministry of magic organises muggle repelling charms over the square acerage of the festival itself, which this year includes five large fields that were 'loaned' to the organisers from their muggle owners - though, not to worry, they have been appropriately compensated. among the pumpkin patch and maize maze - two to six galleons per pumpkin, depending on the size, and a galleon for entry to the maze that includes a map that'll offer you hints in the form of riddles if you get lost and need a hand - visitors can enjoy the many wooden boothes that have been set up to sell fall themed gifts for the whole family and, of course, a large collection of autumnfest themed carnival games.

there's something for everyone - bobbing for crab apples, playing carved pumpkin golf, pinning the tail on the thestral, partaking in an hourly potato sack race or throwing brightly colored plastic hoops onto the legs of a fake acromantula that looks strangely convincing - and, even better, most if not all of the games available come with the option to win some cheap prizes ! after having your fill of what carnival games are on offer, wix can find plenty of food stalls selling savoury and sweet treats, as well as bars serving homemade hot apple cider to wash it all down with !

it's been a few years since we had an appleby autumnfest, though that doesn't mean it's been missing in action ! the organisers made a few changes, last year - namely with opening times, thanks to the curfew that was enforced for most of october - but the festival has remained strong and now, finally, we're back ! this marks the first of two events planned to cover the month of october here on nox, and is a much broader sort of celebration - there's plenty of halloween themed things to enjoy, but consider this a more generalised autumn celebration than it is a spooky setting. appleby is family friendly, first and foremost, and everyone that swings by should keep that in mind !

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

ON DIAGON ALLEY : two years ago almost to the day, a group of werewolves assumed to have been led by known death eater loyalist, fenrir greyback, descended upon diagon alley and attacked the unsuspecting wix leaving an event at the poison apple nightclub. the diagon alley massacre ( as it was later dubbed ) saw several killed and more forever afflicted with the curse of lycanthropy, and the shadow of that dark october night has loomed long over the bustling hub of the british wixen world since. last year, the ministry quite controversially, given the circumstances, announced a set of guidelines on the wwn that outlawed large gatherings and events that ran past eleven on halloween night, all in a marked effort to ensure the safety of the general populace. the decision caused widespread uproar amongst the most youthful of wix - many of who threw their own secret halloween parties anyways - and silent scorn from the businesses affected on diagon alley. in their haste to avoid another unavoidable disaster, the ministry robbed various stores, clubs and pubs dotted throughout the cobblestone alley of the income they would usually take in on what was previously one of the best nights of the year. storeowners far and wide could be forgiven for their apprehension as skilled wix put up the usual spooky decorations at the start of the month, but they needn’t have worried at all. 

midnight on diagon alley was an idea pitched by the ministry to everyone who works there in the first week of october, and rapidly arranged when the resounding yes came back to them. for the first time since the massacre ( and as advertised, one night & one night only ), stores and restaurants have been given ministry grants to encourage them to go all out for the night of the 31st, and to keep their doors open through to 2am. for flourish & blotts, this looks like candlelight spooky storytelling, with celebrity guests greta catchlove, gwenog jones and rita skeeter. weasley's wizard wheezes have turned the entire lower level of their store into a hair raising & heart stopping haunted house, with the promise that only the bravest of souls will find the grand staircase and earn the right to purchase their scariest of games, tricks and sweets. sugarplums & fortescue's ice cream parlour are among a huge number of smaller, food oriented businesses that have put in the effort to overhaul their usual offerings and turn tasty treats into unsettling, bloody offerings. the magical menagerie will only be selling rats, bats and black cats to anyone who decides that tonight is the night to add a member to their family, and the apothecaries are all offering half price potions that bring on harmless and short lasting effects to anyone who wants boils, sores or different colored eyes to add to their costumes. while amortentia and the poison apple have been instructed to keep their doors closed, this year - a decision that neither business owner took well but stood no chance in arguing - the leaky cauldron has been approved to host a rather subdued wine tasting with a themed menu and live music. though some of the stores on diagon alley struggled to find a niche for themselves on this night and politely declined the opportunity ( most notably ollivanders, madam malkin's and potage's cauldron shop ), many rose happily to the challenge, while in contrast, EVERY business on knockturn alley took the offered grant and has changed nothing about the way they operate. wix have been encouraged by every advertisement to date to arrive in costume - and assured, in small print and several ministry statements, that the auror presence will be heavy. 

ELSEWHERE : if you were lucky enough to have stumbled on it on your own ( or, more likely, to have been one of the few that caught the whispers amongst your peers ), you might choose to abandon midnight on diagon alley and instead make your way to hogsmeade village, where the shrieking shack has just found its best use since a certain ex hogwarts professor waited out the full moon inside its walls. no one has actually taken credit for the idea of a haunted house party inside of a LITERAL haunted house, but someone definitely put in the work - there’s finger food on a rickety table in what was once a fitted kitchen, decorations hanging from rotten rafters and kegs to be tapped as needed in the basement, and though very few of the wix arriving spare much thought towards it, there’s a reason nobody is showing up to shut it down sooner rather than later. powerful charms have been placed around the perimeter of the grounds to muffle loud music & sounds of brave young wix having the time of their lives, another to disguise from anyone who looks in that direction from the village the signs of life at the dreaded shack. though no invitation was issued or rules laid bare, it seems obvious that costumes are mandatory and the only people welcome are the ones who won’t rat everyone else out to the relevant authorities. the shrieking shack, foreboding and condemned, has just become the site of the best halloween party that near ANYONE has attended in the last three years - the one who ruins that will undoubtedly face the unfiltered wrath of their peers. 

OUT OF CHARACTER:

surprise ! it’s that time of year again, and that time of year would not be complete without a surprise double event ! midnight on diagon alley was conceived by me as a way of bringing some life back to this main street after the massacre in late 2020, and is of course open to characters of all ages ! there’s very literally something for everyone, except if that something they’re looking for is a blowout party - they’ll have to go to the shrieking shack for that ( if they dare ), i’m afraid. 

the event will begin on tuesday the 25th of october at 6pm bst ( click this sentence to find out what that translates to for your timezone ) with a tentative end set for two weeks from then ! 

as always : no character is required to attend either event, nor are you required to take part though you are highly encouraged to do so ! the shrieking shack costume party is much smaller scale to midnight on diagon alley, with word of what was going on out there travelling by word of mouth, likely the very night of halloween ! 

this event was envisioned as being a discord & dash combo, with some of the rp for the shrieking shack party specifically 100% isolated to the writing server ( more info to come later ). any event specific posts to the dash should be tagged with nox.event031 ! the locations, for anyone who tags them, are diagon alley & hogsmeade village.

saoirse in flat #22b is under the impression that everyone gathered is commiserating yesterday’s montrose magpies loss at the quidditch league. her friend, roger, considers what’s happening to be more of a celebration of the falmouth falcons unlikely win - this disagreement will be heard all the way up in #35b, where eloise is treating the open tower block party as a slightly belated birthday bash. sarah, still at home but soon to show, receives a very confusing text message from a friend who received an equally confusing owl, earlier that night. something, something, the demiguise ddnt turn visible so sumemr is fucked. she won’t get an explanation on that one, but she will get a location : BEAUMONT COURT, MARJORIBANKS ROAD.

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :

only ONE thing is really for sure, and that’s that nobody is actually all that sure on how or why the tower block party on marjoribanks road kicked off. everyone that turns up gets another version of an everchanging story, to the point where even the most simplest of facts, like where it even started, are lost by the time it’s in full swing. someone says an apartment on the lower floor got a couple of kegs at a discounted rate and wanted to put them to good use. someone else says that someone farther up the building just got fired from their clerking job at the ministry of magic, and this is where it led. no one seems all that concerned about the lack of information going around, but then again, with so few and far between reasons to celebrate, of late, why would anyone in their right mind turn up the opportunity to really let loose ?

beaumont court is a 37 floor tower block at the heart of marjoribanks road. it’s not the tallest of the buildings that surround it and as one of the first ones to be built in this wixen settlement, it also isn’t up to the same sort of standard as some of the newer buildings - but what it does have going for it is the willingness of its residents to throw a hell of a party, when given half the chance. rules are established very early on in the evening. wix that want to get involved throw open their doors and invite partygoers ( many of whom are apparating in from farther afield than the surrounding london area ) into their humble abode. wix that don’t keep their doors charmed shut and throw up a ward to keep the noise out, letting everyone else have their fun without doing something silly like calling in the aurors. there is no dress code, and the overall code of conduct is a little shaky. some fights are expected to break out, but as long as the people involved deal with it without involving anyone else, no one is expected to be kicked out or anything. obviously, the statute of secrecy remains at the forefront of most people’s minds - or, some people’s minds, at least - but since most properties on marjoribanks road are already somewhat protected, as long as everyone keeps this within regular party bounds, everyone should be fine.

news travels by word of mouth. residents tell their friends, who tell their friends, who tell theirs, and that’s how it got so big, so fast - whoever did kick off this night of festivities probably didn’t expect the turnout that they got, but there’s no denying how magnetic it all starts to feel, after a while. as the first blowout event since the christmas attack, it’s obvious that everyone is glad to have an excuse to drink with their friends and laugh over drunken antics, and nobody can really deny the good it seems to do.

it’s time to celebrate noxtms’ birthday, and this is an event that i have wanted to do for a really long time - so i hope you guys are as hyped up about it as i am ! the beaumont court tower block party is a little different to things we’ve done before, but the premise is much the same. this is your chance for your characters to let their hair down and get up to some - probably troublesome - antics, so make sure to take full advantage of that !

it may feel difficult to slot characters into this, especially those on the older side, but don’t worry - there are ways you can do it ( aurors could be making sure everything stays within the statute, for example ), and even if there ultimately aren’t, this is only the first of two events. the other one is a staple of the rp, and anyone who couldn’t dive in here will be able to dive in there ! go forth and enjoy, folks !

MINISTER ANTONIN KARKAROFF has remained tight lipped regarding this years ministry gala following the tutshill derby attack and hospitalisation of his only son, with many assuming that these extenuating circumstances would lead to it being pushed - for the first time since conception - into september at the very earliest. as a mark of strength ( and some would say, in true karkaroff fashion ) however, the minister of magic has today confirmed that the annual gala will go ahead as normal on the first sunday of august, with the dedicated organisational team working around the clock to ensure another successful evening ! 

❝   the dedicated team usually starts working on the event in early june, and volunteer employees are pulled from every department and given strict instruction on what they should focus on in the planning of their presentations and talks. of course minister karkaroff felt it wasteful to throw out the hard work of so many individuals, but the more important thing has been showing the death eaters who attacked innocent individuals at the derby that we remain strong & uncowed in the face of their adversary. in addition to the heavy auror presence, the minister has paid for private security out of his own pocket to ensure that our honored guests feel most secure over the course of the night - and one has to wonder how we possibly couldn’t, knowing as we do now that he himself is perfectly capable of protecting guests en masse in the worst case scenario !  ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

kingsley shacklebolt was the mastermind behind the ANNUAL MINISTRY GALA, with he & his cabinet organising the very first one following the end of the second wixen war as a way to show off their new and improved ministry of magic to the public. it has become an extremely important event in wixen society, and tickets are highly sought after by members of the public, even now - for a single night on the first weekend of august, ‘outsiders’ are given the opportunity to see the the changes implemented across departments since the end of the war and the steps taken to ensure that they do not return to what they were, before it. 

ministry workers and those who fought in the battle of hogwarts have, in the past, received an automatic invite along with the option to bring along a plus one. the rest of the guest list has always been bulked out by the random allocation of 150 tickets to members of the british wixen community, who receive their invites by owl post two weeks before the gala itself. the greatest wixen chefs known across britain prepare an incredible four course meal that is served early in the evening before the beautifully decorated tables are vanished and a ballroom dancefloor is conjured at the centre of the atrium, all the better for guests to enjoy a slow dance to the orchestral music that plays all night. several open bars can be found dotted throughout the space, and flutes of champagne or glasses of wine can be brought along to the presentations from all ( but one, since the dept of mysteries remains closed ) of the departments on what they’re currently focusing time & effort on. department heads give rehearsed TEN MINUTE talks to any interested guests, and they’re free to answer any well worded question that is thrown their way, though cautioned to remain tight lipped when it comes to their personal opinions. 

this year, one of the topics they should remain silent on is one that is bound to be hottest amongst guests as all of the most recognizable members of dumbledore’s army are snubbed from the guestlist. the members of the da who took voldemort’s life and brought about the end of the war were, in the past, treated as celebrities - they received vip lanyards that gave them access to off limits areas of the ministry, private and guided tours, a spot at the head table with the minister of magic at their side and, in general, special treatment in comparison to everyone else. it seems that minister karkaroff - the newly minted hero of the tutshill derby attack - has finally gotten his wish, and for the first time in eight years, the da have not just had their perks taken unceremoniously from them, but been excluded almost in entirety from the event as a whole.

the eighth annual ministry gala is the third version of this event that has hit the nox dash since we opened, and this year, we have officially come full circle. the da have always had pride of place at this event as the heroes of the second war, shown to us through the special treatment that was heaped on them at the sixth gala ( the first one we ever wrote ). at the seventh, they were taken off that vip list and sent to the back of the atrium following their breaking in to the department of mysteries in christmas, 2020. now, they have been excluded entirely. it WILL NOT go unnoticed, but how much people allow themselves to care about this widely deemed minor snub is for you to decide !

the only publicly known members of dumbledore’s army to receive an invite are those who would believably have been issued an invite due to being seen as an important figure in the wix world, in their own right, with the only other option available to them being the possibility of being the plus one of a named & played character. this snub is on purpose - ie, while a loophole does exist, i don’t want you guys to exploit it ! the very, very few who attend will receive no special treatment, and may find the vibe from high ranking officials to be uniquely cold. please keep that in mind !

❝    IT’S THAT TIME AGAIN ! the long awaited tutshill derby is finally upon us, and if you haven’t already managed to snap up your tickets for the weekend long event, you better act now - tier two and three are completely sold out, and we’ve been told to warn you all that availability for tier one is going fast ! event runners have worked closely with the ministry of magic to ensure that the eighteen races spread out across the next three days go off without a hitch, but we’ve been assured that the new security measures put in place will not interfere with your enjoyment of the weekend - news our minister is also sure to appreciate, as this weekend is said to be serving as his early birthday celebration ! you might just catch a glimpse of him and his beautiful wife, eulalia from the private booth we’ve been told that they’ll be occupying in the ministers stand - and if you stay tuned until after the break, we here at the wwn have exclusive info on the ministers favorites to win !  ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

holding the honor of being one of the most highly anticipated hippogriff racing events in europe, the tutshill derby is a group 1 land + air race open to four year old colts and fillies. occuring only once every three years due to the time it takes to protect the immediate area surrounding the tutshill racecourse from the prying eyes of nearby muggles - second only to the likes of the quidditch world cup, an event that has in the past taken precedence over the tutshill race, much to the chagrin to passionate jockeys and their teams.

it typically runs over the last weekend of june or first weekend of july and over a distance of two miles, four furlongs and nine yards ( 4,031 metres ) across a course that tests each hippogriff on their skill and endurance both on land and in the sky. it was first run in 1543 and continues to draw steady interest from casual gamblers and hippogriff enthusiasts alike. this year, the tutshill derby serves as an early celebration of the minister of magic’s birthday. 

tickets are available in three tiers of various price ranges, and each comes with their own unique set of perks. 

TIER ONE tickets are essentially general admission. they’re the easiest to purchase due to their extremely low price and surplus of numbers and provide access to the large expanse of land at the center of the racecourse, referred to as the circle. what started as little more than a cheap option to allow the less well off in wix society enjoy the highs and lows of raceday has really grown over the last few decades into a place where people genuinely want to be - by far the most ‘family friendly’ area of the whole event, the circle now includes a large carnival with a mix of muggle and wix carnival games and contraptions ( the teacups sit between a ferris wheel and a broom flying simulator ), along with food trucks and portable bars set up by the staff of the likes of the leaky cauldron & the three broomsticks. volunteers will paint the faces of little children for the low price of two sickles, and anyone who isn’t that interested in the outcome of the actual races ( or just doesn’t want to waste their money betting with any of the wandering bookmakers available ) is welcome to try their hand at winning stuffed animals, live fish or any number of other wacky prizes available at the different stands. there’s a seemingly neverending stream of colorful bubbles and free flags to be gotten from individuals walking the area, and though the area has no seating, many bring their own canvas chairs or picnic blankets and claim areas all their own. arriving early can ensure some amazing views of the homestretch and clubhouse turn, but spots along the barrier are usually long claimed by the diehard fans when the rest of the crowd begins to arrive. 

TIER TWO tickets are a bit more expensive, slightly more limited in number, and provide entry to the grandstand. this area is located along the other side of the homestretch and has its own roofed seating area - with much coveted views - among other specific perks, especially for those who pay an annual membership fee to the tutshill club ( show your badge and gain access to the highest levels of the stand and a private rooftop bar ). where the best tier one can do for food and drink are trucks and beers and wheels that are dotted throughout the circle, grandstand ticket holders have access to actual stands and makeshift bars of a slightly more upscale nature, all complete with their own theme and private seating. they’re also the only people with access to the parade ring, where hippogriffs are led around by their jockets and put on show before each race. bookmakers are located at raceside stands that are usually swamped by the crowd, and their rates are known to be a bit more favourable than the tier one bookies tend to be. 

TIER THREE tickets are the most expensive of all and are limited to 500. they provide entry to the large building - the ministers stand - that overlooks the final furlong. you can’t just buy your way into this area, and usually have to be personally invited by event organisers to purchase the very limited tickets, of which there’s usually a max per person. though it lacks an outside area ( and thus the raceside views that many tier one & two ticket holders look forward to ), those that actually do get invited to buy tier three packages are fully aware of what they forfeit in choosing to do so. they’re usually the type of people completely fine with trading the carnival and crowd mingling for the air conditioned bars inside ( complete with golden carpets and impressive chandeliers ) and dozens of private balconies from where they can watch the race in full. food and drink inside of the ministers stand is, of course, free, and of the highest quality, and of course there’s no expectation for anyone enjoying this exclusive area to queue and wait for such a thing - suited servers area expected to take care of the needs of the ticket holders before they even know what they need, and usually perform that action fairly well. the bookmakers inside here are also privately hired, and they tend to offer better rates than the ones found anywhere else, because of course they do.

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

the belby estate consists of a large elizabethan manor and sprawling gardens tended to within an inch of their lives by dionisia herself. the long time home of the ( once highly regarded and ) now retired theora belby, the grounds are not only where dionisia spent her girlhood but also where she has chosen to make her livelihood ; the belby orangery and arboretum are relatively new additions in comparison to other nearby landmarks, but fit right in with everything else. the first floor and the private greenhouse attached to the manor - not usually open to the public on operational days - are primarily used for entertainment purposes, while the second and third floors are living spaces and offices that will be strictly off limits to guests on casino night. everyone is informed of this on entry and anyone who is found to be in violation of the verbal agreement to not stray up there will be ejected from the premises immediately with no exceptions.

the transformation of the first floor into a true to life casino is genuinely impressive ; private poker rooms have been made of the three downstairs studies, while the generally unused ballroom has become the ‘main floor’ area, complete with lines upon lines of wix inspired slot machines ( match three hippogriffs in a row, be the lucky one to land on the special galleon sign, or try your luck at finding the machine clearly inspired by harry potter’s plight that has been mysteriously turned off for the evening ). the roulette wheels have been charmed to take care of themselves, and don’t worry if you’re unfamiliar with the actual concept of any of the games ; servers aren’t just weaving their way through the crowds with platters of canapé’s and alcohol held high but also instructed to zero in on any clueless faces and offer a guiding hand. 

the big big raffle at the end of the night contains a variety of expensive prizes donated by businesses local to the diagon alley and hogsmeade areas - there are gift cards for the most popular of places to eat, a limited edition leather bound copy of the tales of beedle the bard from flourish and blott’s, a voucher from madam primpernelle’s beautifying potions and, most impressively, a brand new nimbus 2007 for the overall winner of the evening, and that’s just a taste. everyone who pays the entry fee gets entered into the draw, but additional entries can be purchased at a slightly higher rate & all the actual earnings from the various gambling games go straight to st mungo’s. dionisia expressed to the wwn in an interview two nights ahead of casino night that she owes it to the hospital to provide a tidy sum at the end of it all, given her mother’s long career and the care they gave her when she was just a little girl - with so much on offer, it’s hard to see how she could ever fail to make good on the promise.

❝   EIGHT YEARS HAVE NOW PASSED US BY, and i know that for myself, not a day goes by where i don’t think of the dozens who lost their lives in the fight for our freedom from he who must not be named. there is no one in our community who does not remember that horrible day ; who didn’t lose somebody over the course of it or who does not know someone who fought bravely until the very last to bring about a BRIGHTER future than the one we faced during those dark days. we are so lucky to be the ones who survived to see it, but as always, it is of utmost importance that we remember those who did not, because without them, we simply would not be here. while we must never forget their sacrifice, we must use them as the example from which to live : we must REMEMBER that twice before we have triumphed where some would have seen us fail, and that we can, we will, and we must do it again : if not for our own futures, but for the futures of our children, and their children after them.   ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

the battle of hogwarts memorial is held annually on the hogwarts school grounds and holds the honor of being one of the most intricately planned ( and largely ministry run ) events of the year. while the rest of the wix world honors those that fought the war valiantly in their own ways - many businesses offer discounts to the survivors, while temporary remembrance walls are set up with pictures of the fallen at the heart of wixen communities across the country, the perfect place to leave flowers, teddy bears, or candles lit in their memory - the hogwarts run event is by far the most notable and has always been run to a standard no one else would ever stand hope of achieving.

many expected some change to the schedule, this year, if not the outright cancellation of the event due to the whole judy strout debacle of last may. the lack of any formal statement in regards to her mysterious death ( & then assumed abduction from the school itself ) has not exactly gone unnoticed. an anonymous ministry worker featured in the prophet put many minds at ease only four days from the start of the event, quoted as saying that the auror taskforce still investigating that particular tragedy now believe it an unfortunate coincidence, with no correlation to the event ( or bellatrix lestrange ). with it, most breathed a sigh of relief : the weekend promises to be grief heavy with or without the given space to mourn, but it certainly helps that their routine remains unchanged. 

those who actually fought over the course of the two halved battle receive an ivory invite several weeks in advance, with the same sent to the loved ones of those who lost their lives. this year, the opening remembrance ceremony is to be held on the castle grounds early on the 30th, with recognisable public figures and the members of dumbledore’s army who killed lord voldemort giving practiced speeches and saying a few words to their most dearly departed. an early feast follows inside the castle, house tables abandoned in favor of dozens of smaller tables and chairs designed to encourage the mingling of everyone present, regardless of their house or present status. the cream candles suspended by nothing more than air close to the ceiling have been swapped for pure black and though the starting event usually continues into the evening, many head towards hogsmeade - and the promise of a stiff drink - at the sun sets. 

the last quidditch game of the season ( gryffindor vs. ravenclaw ) will continue as planned on sunday the 1st, with guests welcome to attend if they feel up to it, or permitted to wander the school and grounds, if they do not. the 2nd of may never really does creep up on anyone, and though the early morning of it passes by without note - with many indulging in some quiet time of reflection - the goodbye ceremony ( a gathering in the courtyard where wands are raised & orbs of multicolored light are sent high into the sky, like muggle fire lanterns ) usually brings with it an understandable upset. 

as with last year, headmistress mcgonagall has opened hogwarts up to guests, with house quarters freshened up by well paid house elves in advance of anyone’s arrival. hogwarts alumni are welcome to stay close to their old common room - the thought being, of course, that they’ll be much more comfortable in an almost familiar space - while alumni from other magical schools are welcome to take advantage of the guest quarters located beneath professor lodings. in the past, visiting wix chose to board at B&B’s in nearby villages or simply to travel in each day, but as with last year, the intention is to make sure everyone is protected by the enchantments around the school ( with no one but mcgonagall & professors sprout, flitwick & slughorn aware of the added protections for this year ). 

OUT OF CHARACTER:

it’s not much of a surprise if i’ve already had y’all vote on it, but... surprise ! the annual battle of hogwarts memorial is once again upon us, and though the ministry remains silent on the events of last year ( rip, miss strout ), the hogwarts professors have done everything they can to assure no such repeat. in addition to now being required to stay at hogwarts through the course of the event and a boatload more protective enchantments added by the heads of houses, guards ( read as : professor volunteers ) will be rotating watches on the secret passageways in and out of the school, and headmistress mcgonagall has insisted on the continuation of the tripled auror security. this will not be the third year in a row that some horrible event ( dark mark in the sky during the goodbye ceremony... the abduction and death of an innocent healer... ) transpires at the hogwarts memorial event - at least, not on mcgonagall’s watch. 

the event will be starting tomorrow ( may 3rd ) at 6:00pm gmt : click this sentence to see what that translates to for your timezone ! the plan, as of this minute, is for it to run for two weeks. 

since you guys voted fair and square, this event will be another discord / dash hybrid ! you’re welcome to post starters into the memorial category set up over on the writing discord, and though it is not a requirement for you to pause old threads or keep things specific to the event on the dash in gen, please make sure to differentiate between old threads and new in some way ( title, tagging, etc ). i know this is still a pretty chaotic time for people, so there’s no shame in isolating your rp for this event to the disc.

most characters would be expected to attend, regardless of whether they fought or not and a myriad of other factors - you have to remember that while the rest of the wix world might stand still over these few, heavy days, this is the biggest event honouring those lost. it sends a message if you are not present , so i highly encourage everyone to get involved !

❝   AND NOW TO THE QUESTION ON EVERYONE’S LIPS : can we expect a weird sisters reunion at this years wrock en seine festival ? regulars and newcomers alike have been theorising for weeks as to whether or not the underdog headliner TOIL & TROUBLE may be the nfamous ( and only recently retired ) band under an alias, but it seems like we’ll be heading into the six day event without confirmation ! with camps divided down the middle between wix who think the reference is obvious and others who imagine it a little TOO much so, wwn reporter PAULA OGDEN reached out to ( ex ) lead singer myron wagtail to ask, though he remained tight lipped ! the mystery of it all has certainly aided ticket sales this year, but regardless of who walks out on stage come friday night, wrock en seine 2022 promises to be an event like no other !  ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

for over twenty years, wrock en seine ( name derived from the shortform of wizard rock and a play on the french for stage and the nearby seine river ) has been europe’s BIGGEST wix exclusive music festival, known for drawing in the biggest bands across the globe for six days of near non stop performances. located in the idyllic domaine de saint-cloud ( just twenty minutes from paris ), stepping into the andré le nôtre designed park once yearly is like stepping into another world, which for many, it is. the festival has a daily capacity of over 50,000 wix and shines a spotlight onto both musical heavy hitters & up and coming newcomers for the world to see across five individual stages. 

this year, wrock en seine takes place over the final few days of august and boasts close to sixty names signed to appear. there’s literally something for everyone, with the hungarian horntails being the most hotly anticipated new kids on the block and many experienced festival goers theorising that the mysterious headliner toil & trouble may just be the recently retired WEIRD SISTERS beneath a thinly veiled alias, though myron wagtail and kirley duke have so far declined to comment ! ticket holders can dedicate themselves to one stage or choose to divide their time between any number of all five, depending on their personal preference, and designated apparition spots have been arranged by the french government for wix to make their way across the site at speed - as well as discreet portkey spots for individuals arriving, daily. 

the city of paris and several nearby towns and villages are at the disposal of wix travelling for the occasion over the course of the event, though rooms in nearby hotels and bed & breakfasts sell out fast in the weeks leading up to the event and many end up availing of the makeshift campsites dotting neighbouring fields. muggles are compensated well for the use of their space ( and the subsequent obliviation ), and wix who rent out a spot for their tents must agree to a lengthy set of rules & regulations before they’re granted their permit, though not even the promised fines can stop hundreds of drunken wix. 

having seen what happened in england over the summer, the french government have taken great care this year to ensure the safety of their festival goers. law enforcement presence and magical security measures have been discreetly increased, with the hired staff having gone through a lengthy interview process under guise of ensuring better quality of staff in order to weed out anyone who might attempt to cause trouble. the list of prohibited items has been increased, too, and fines for being found carrying dark artefacts have been tripled. as long as they have anything to do with it, nothing will be getting in the way of their staple event. 

OUT OF CHARACTER :

finally, i get to give you guys an event i’ve wanted to do for a while ! wrock en seine 2022 is a very veiled reference to rock en seine, a real life music festival located in the west of france. for the purposes of nox, please imagine that the only one to exist is the wix version ! characters who are willing to spend a long weekend trudging through mud will be able to enjoy a variety of wix rock bands from across the globe, some of them fondly familiar and others new favorites just waiting to be discovered. per a muggle music festival, there’s the option of sleeping in comfort at hotels and bed & breakfasts in nearby towns and, of course, the more cost efficient option is to camp in the allotted areas. imagine the chaos of the world cup and then magnify it to account for way more people - british ministry workers should feel very lucky indeed that it’s being dealt with entirely by the french ! 

the event officially begins with the posting of this message and will run for two weeks, right up to the 9th of october. the in game date is the 26th through the 31st of august, with the festival closing out our summer.

you do not have to pause your current threads, provided that threads taking place over the course of the event are appropriately tagged and differentiated from them. this is a dash only event, but you can find a channel for festival wear on the discord !

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :  

in the few years that have passed since amortentia opened, they've really managed to make a name for themselves where the poison apple over on knockturn alley has fallen short. nobody has ever found themselves a victim of an unsavory potion added to their cocktail of choice at amortentia, and since business kicked off after that one werewolf attack that no one likes to talk about, they never had their reputation tarnished in THAT way, either. thanks to a few savvy business decisions by madam amare, the owner, amortentia has managed to carve a place out for themselves on diagon alley - and managed to make themselves THE place to be every valentine's evening, even without the pull of this years traffic light party.

if you're unfamiliar with a traffic light party : two galleons at the door grants you entry to the club and your choice of wristband from the three huge buckets of them that bouncers guard at the door. red, of course, is a no go. anyone choosing to have that tied around their wrist is taken and only here for the vibes. yellow is a little more of a grey area. it's complicated or i'm talking to someone, but i'm open to talking to you, too. greens are single and, though it's a cliche, ready to mingle.

if you're unfamiliar with amortentia itself : what appears to be a cramped stone building from the outside is, actually, a space containing over a dozen themed rooms that have all been charmed by madam amare and her trusted team of renovators to be upwards of twice the size. each room has its own theme and comes complete with its own cocktail menu, too. there's a caberet room, a muggle speakeasy, a bubblegum pink love room that pumps tiny amounts of amortentia potion out through hidden vaporisers, a mirror room, a dance floor surrounded by strobe lights, a classy rooftop lounge and, of course, a handful of vip areas that come with their own private djs and door security. amortentia is the kind of place that doesn't feel entirely real, so you'd wanna be careful stepping out for a smoke break or a breath of fresh air - if you've rubbed off your bright pink stamp on the back of your hand ( shaped like a vial of their namesake potion ), you WON'T be getting back inside.

this mini event starts with the posting of this message and ends on february 19th ! it's a weird span of time, but only because there's another, larger event to come at the end of the month - i don't like things being too tightly together !

❝   THE MALFOY FAMILY ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT, while they've made some changes to be entirely respectful to the families of those who lost their lives last christmas, their annual family ball - now a celebration of the new year - will be going ahead at the end of the month ! lucky wix who managed to secure an invite to the event of the season will be able to enjoy live orchestra music and food prepared by the finest chefs in london, as is to be expected at an event of this calibre. the hosts have given the wwn permission to break the news of this years theme with an exclusive competition that provides the winner with an invite for them and a friend to attend, so prepare your owls ! where does this quote come from ? .... ahem ! i'll follow thee and make a heaven of hell, to die upon the hand i love so well... ❞

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE :

the event previously marketed as the malfoy family christmas party ( now to be known exclusively as the malfoy ball ) is an annual soiree that has, in years past, fallen on december 24th or december 25th, depending on the day of the week that either fell. the decision to move it to new year's eve is not one that was taken lightly, and wasn't entirely narcissa malfoy's idea - it was a friend of the journalistic sort that suggested it would be an altogether better look for the family if they avoided the day that three unfortunate young people lost their lives last year, and when you're a malfoy, everything really does come down to image.

invitations on expensive parchment paper are sent by hired owl in mid december, first to the most important of magical families and then to whoever happens to be left over, announcing the change of date and the change of run time. starting at 8pm, this will be the first ( and hopefully only ) year where it is actually intended to run through 2am to allow the ringing in of the new year and the continuation of the blowout party that the family is known for. not receiving one of the ivory invites when you're considered powerful or influential within the community is rare and considered a rather serious slight from the malfoy's when it does happen. who made it onto the guestlist - and who found their way off it - usually makes for some of the best gossip of the evening, unless, of course, it's to be expected. the weasley family, until last year, had never been included on the star studded mailing list, and the public spat between youngest sister and middle brother last year has resulted in their names being struck off once again ( along with a few other familiar names - the closest friends of each who have been removed for the simple mistake of association ). luckily for some, the lack of an invite doesn't actually affect their chances of getting inside. the malfoy's don't have a security list for the simple joy they get from pretending to be scandalized by the presence of their least favorite wix when, in actuality, their appearance is the greatest form of flattery that they could ever feel.

the theme, this year, is a midsummer night's dream, with the party extending from inside the inner ballroom to the well tended gardens of the malfoy estate. lucius & narcissa have employed incredibly talented wix to ensure that the right protective spells have been cast over the decided boundary, making sure that the temperature remains toasty so that no one need don a jacket and that if the skies should open with rain or snow, it won't fall on the party itself. the sanctuary for magical creatures and their hedge maze are entirely off limits, as always, and as such, these particular spells do not cover them. 

the party is just one more way in which the malfoy's flaunt their unaffected wealth and ensure that the daily prophet has only good things to say about them heading into the new year, which means that no expense is ever spared - and that isn't about to start now. the inner ballroom has been entirely transformed into an enchanted forest, just the right amounts of overgrown to be seen as magical and mysterious, just the right amounts of tended to make the job of the servers no more difficult this year than any other. the ground is moss covered and spongy, the marble walls hidden by thick evergreen trees and deep green foliage, and delicate string lights hanging from the boughs of the aforementioned trees are the only illumination aside from a faux full moon and a sky full of stars that has been conjured overhead. the dancefloor inside is nestled at the center of this, around which are dark wood tables and chairs overladen with food, and the dancefloor outside - found if you can manage to extract yourself from this impressive area - is shined and circular, like one, large mirror. the malfoy's have hired an orchestra, this year, and themed cocktails and food have been prepared by london's most talented chefs. 

as always, the ball is set to be an incredible evening for those lucky enough to get an invite - or brave enough to show up without. the only thing that the malfoy family ask in return for their generosity is that guests provide a small donation for the peacock academy, an institute for magical children overseas that also happens to be a rather well known for profit that was founded by the late abraxas malfoy.

our fourth ever malfoy family ball moves from christmas to new years and takes us into a midsummer night's dream ! you're more than welcome to interpret this in any way that you'd like, though as this is the event of the season, character's should definitely keep in mind that the malfoy's would never do anything with the thought of being tacky.  it might feel a little difficult to slot your characters in, especially considering how specially curated the guestlist seems to be, but don't worry too much - even if your character wouldn't have received a hand written ignite, there's always the option of being someone's plus one or choosing to crash the party open to them ! you're welcome to throw anyone in wherever you'd like, since we won't be having a second event going hand in hand with this one !
