Street photography 1 - Vivian Maier - New York

What is great about this photograph is the child. Taken in the late 1950s in central New York, it shows a young boy out on the street where there is a large cardboard box on the pavement outside what appear to be houses or shops. We can not see what is inside the box but can only imagine. It could be anything. It could be nothing.  The boy is using a wooden frame to climb up and peer over to have a look inside the box for himself. The settings look like a busy street with cars parked up at the side of the road, maybe this is outside his own home or may he have just been wandering down the street and stopped to take a closer look.  Is he alone or is there a mother, father, bother, sister or grandparent close by? The street looks long and wide from the foreground of the photograph and begins to narrow and go out of focus as you look into the background.  There is only colour from the sky, buildings, pavement, car on the left hand side and then the boy and the cardboard box itself. I see shades of white, grey, brown, blue and black. Maier’s loved both children and street photography and I really like this one and how it can be brought to life with pure imagination.

Pantone Colour Project

Today we were tasked with the Pantone Colour Project and we were given a colour to photograph. I got the colour Ultramarine and here is what I shot in my home

I was unable to go out for any shots and these are what I found in my house. The bottom image was took while on campus Monday afternoon

Folio 2 - What Do You See - WARNING: FLAMMABLE CONTENTS

This photo was took in 2020 during Folio 2 for the Environmental E-Zine and as we have just started I feel like this would be the best example.

Within the forests behind by home, there is a clearing that is a popular spot for groups of teens to gather, as well as their rubbish to be left. While I was exploring this area, underneath the tall tree in the middle of the clearing, I saw a firepit that was at least a few nights old, and when I went for a closer look I saw a few things had been thrown in. Wrappers and Monster cans mainly. But also a single SURE MEN roll on deodorant. There's ash and burns on the can, so only hope it wasn't thrown in while the fire was lit.
