One of the things that hurt me the most in the Seabound finale is that while everyone else is begging Nya to stay, begging her to remember who she is, she’s just smiling.

Jay is crying and Wu is insisting but she just smiles like she’s already accepted it. She is the ocean and the ocean is her. She has to leave. Yet she smiles like it doesn’t even faze her.

And in the final shot of the season, we see Nya laughing as she swims around with marine life. Perfectly content as her friends and family morn her back on the surface.

it’s very interesting that majority of the things involving water in ninjago are themed after Greek mythology. So far we have:

Stix --> River Styx

Nyad --> Naiads

Thanatos Trench --> Thanatos

The Preeminent --> likely references the Hydra, Protogenos (according to the wiki), and Charybdis

this post is going to be wildly unstructured (and also vastly lacking in any semblance of consistent grammar/punctuation usage) because i am just spitting thoughts off the top of my head BUT! since i want to emphasise the permanence of Nya's sacrifice in the high tide AU i was thinking about what would happen to her powers after merging. i think there are two ways in which this could go

Maya is still alive, so Nya's powers could return to her? i'm not sure where i could take this from a narrative perspective because i want maya's arc to focus more around her relationships with ray and kai, as well as misako (i love yo.u misako mwah)

the other more. obvious option would be that Benthomaar would inherit Nya's powers, most likely after encountering her merged form while in the endless sea. i think this could open up a lot of opportunities in terms of his relationship with Jay and the rest of the ninja ,, Bentho is staying at the monastery to support his friends and i'm wondering how that'd affect their dynamic ,, <:o

unrelated note . more people need to take advantage of the parallels between seabound and the entire emily alone album by florist . so much water/oceanic imagery . it is such an utterly devastating collection of songs and i am brought to tears every time i listen to it which does not help my evil ninjago brain at all

(because according to Seabound he found the realm and only really created the continents. Also, based on this, he may have created the Ninjago continents first, and then started creating realms to experiment with his creation powers)

AAAA kinda old art (that's a lie i made it like three weeks ago) but I wanted to talk more about the supporting characters of the High Tide AU! Those being. Misako, Maya, and Ray (I had no idea what to do with Wu so i've. set him aside for now)

This isn't going to be anything super in-depth. Just a little . idk. recap?

Misako and Maya become very close (that's. platonic) in the weeks following Nya's sacrifice. They already knew each other to an extent, but after she and Ray went missing, Maya never had the chance to get to know Misako as a true friend. But now she does! And they're like besties! The two bond over their shared experiences of motherhood and Misako uses knowledge gained from years of love and loss to help Maya through the grieving process.

Maya and Ray stay at the monastery for a few months after Nya's sacrifice to support Kai. Ray didn't know Nya the way Kai did, so they often reminisce on what she was like when they're together as a way to reconnect. Kai really struggles with feeling overly-responsible for the other ninja as they navigate their way through grief together; he feels as if it's down to him to do everything in his power to prevent his friends from suffering the same fate as his sister, but is quick to lose himself in the process. Being able to retell these memories with his father allows Kai to process his grief, and strengthen his relationship with the rest of his family too.

I'm doing my best to be as angst-free as possible with this AU and I hope it's paying off <\3 I don't want this to be the most devastating story ever, I just want to rewrite the scenario of Nya's sacrifice in a way that brings the ninja together instead of tearing them apart.
