Trigger warning: depression
4 days. That's how long my brand new computer managed to make it in between blue screens. And here's the thing that has taken the hope from me: the updates worked. Dell issued a new BIOS, Nvidia and Intel new graphics drivers and everything steadied out for 4 lovely days.
Until Windows 11 covertly overrode the pause I have on updates and rolled the Intel driver back to the broken one. Of course it crashed. I cannot prevent Windows from doing this. It did it stealthily, there's no record in the Windows Update history that it did it, nor that it took half a dozen updates yesterday. But the Windows Reliability Monitor recorded the updates (again, I have updates paused because I wanted to give the system a chance to stabilize). Since both Dell and Intel want me to have the patched driver, Windows is the only thing that had the ability to roll them back as far as I can tell.
I reinstalled the new driver. Windows, though, will override me and roll it back again and it will crash. This isn't a fear, it's a certainty. Until the Intel driver is old enough to be determined "stable" by Windows, only then will it graciously allow me to keep it. Until the next version comes out, then it will force that one on me, even if this version works better. Even if the next version breaks my computer again. I can't stop it.
This computer will never probably be stable. It will always be a struggle. Dell does not consider this a problem. If they replaced it with another one of the same make, model and specs, it will have the same problem. It will always have a bleeding wound at its heart and I'll always be trying to patch that wound while Windows rips the patches away.
Anyway, guess I'm done vidding and making GIFs, can't get Vegas working in such an unstable state. It was fun getting to feel like a gamer for a little bit but nothing's going to launch like this. I can just keep writing by hand and never posting again. It's a "nothing of value was lost" win for everybody who's ever told me that my "creations" clutter up the fandom tags and make people waste valuable time trying to find things "of talent and substance around all the crap" I post.
Yeah, I'm super depressed right now but that's not me just having a pity party, I've legit been told that.
Given how much I've been complaining lately, it won't seem like it but I really do try not to post negative stuff a lot. I want to be somebody who makes others feel better with the things I put out there and this definitely isn't a feel-good post, sorry. Well, there'll be some people out there apparently thinking this is the best news ever, so yeah, guess this brightened somebody's day at least.
I'll try to pull myself back together, struggle to keep the computer going, see if I can find ways to stabilize it enough to be able to do some of the things I used to love to do. I just got so discouraged when I realized this is a chronic thing, not something that can be solved and put behind me. I'm just sad. Sorry again. Hope you're doing well out there. I love you and miss you.

outta curiousity What OS(s) do u use when gaming? Have you ever used nvidia or nouveau drivers on a non debian based distro (or at least not ubuntu derived)? I'm looking to ditch Steam and ubuntu-distros in my gaming set up but am stuck keelhauling a gtx 970 till playing gloomhaven in 4k finally kills it.
Currently running Pop!OS cause their hybrid tiling WM/popShell is the most satisfying easy and efficent to use Window Manager i've ever touched imo and the well rounded support for nvidia cards and their issues has paid off.
I've tried Arch before on a laptop with hybrid intel graphics which was a bitch but works alright still and am considering the pacman, xfce route but fear/dislike the unreliability of rolling releases on my main gaming device. Any advice or thoughts on OSs and WM's for gaming on linux?
970 gang !!!!!!
i daily drive void on my desktop :3 and so far it seems to be handling gaming as good or even better than mint did on the same system.
i understand the unreliability fear of rolling release, but something big like arch is well-tested and mainstream software should have few issues. and bc your system gets updated more often, you don't have the issue of "oh i need a newer version of this package than my repos provide, guess i'm compiling from source" and then that breaks bc it requires a bunch of newer core packages than your system has.
that said, something like nixos could be an option as it provides all those fresh packages but it's easy to roll back an update, and once you get a known good configuration you just need that one config file to reproduce it on a fresh install.
i use nvidia's drivers bc apparently nouveau still sucks for gaming, especially proton/wine, and i don't wanna take the risk testing it on my main rig.
hybrid tiling sounds interesting ! is it like a smart snapping sort of thing ? idk much about it, or other wms that aren't from a strict dynamic or automatic tiling background (i use i3 and quite like it - fullscreen is handled well for games and while some don't like being forced into windowed mode and resized, windowed-mode games can run floating or full-size tiled).
my setup is native linux steam, native linux itch.io, and then all non-native games are run in Bottles, a wineprefix manager. i have prefixes for windows itch.io, epic games, and then a few different one for 'standalone' games i've downloaded. including a wineprefix dedicated to modded bethesda games using mod organiser 2.
sooo ig, you can go the void route if you're okay w/ a distro that has a fairly small main repo, or arch (or artix) if you want a bigger repo and perhaps more mainstream support, or nixos if you're interested in trying something different - though i haven't tried to game on that yet. and then i would recommend sticking to nvidia's proprietary driver, native game managers (repo or flatpak doesn't matter) and bottles for running via WINE. soda is one of many wine runners shipped w/ bottles based on valve's wine w/ all their proton patches applied and it works great for most things.
i hope this long answer helps at least a little !! and good luck gaming <3 <3

my hackintosh journey
formatting usb's to a gpt partition without gibmacOS's python script (only on windows with the bat cmd launcher script) was a pain for about a day or two and I wasn't aware it existed until I found it and it's still broken write to usb command is unavailable because the download server is off so writing the OS dmg images required transmac and that's if you can even find a proper installer. I also realized I was copying the ventura mac installer incorrectly to the drive then figured I should just boot efi's in a seperate usb drive to solve partitioning or read/write issues. My config.plist file had many things inaccurate and proper tree manager and ocat auxilary tools don't come with manuals. After finding a proper coffee-lake efi without any model identifiers, I used OCAT to generate an SMBIOS of iMac 19,1 and proper tree to edit some values like securebootmodel to disabled and enablewriteunprotector to true then rebuilt it, saved and pasted some prebuilt ACPI SSDTs then rebuilt the config file again. This is all after the original high sierra install which needed a proper clover EFI so I had used the one I found from AIO Clover Boot method's img file off an abandoned blog. Once I had High Sierra running I used a script from tonymacx86 to install web drivers for the OS but it broke for some reason after many reboots of the ventura installer. So I had to then update the OS and then installed the original web driver from nvidia. After that installation, you are required to use opencore's legacy patcher to build the new OS usb or off the app store with the dd to usb terminal command but opencore's method is easier. My take is... If you want to be able to run mac OS X on a PC just buy one. KVM's on Qemu with linux using Sosumi are outdated, they don't support usb passthrough correctly if you don't have the USB Kext installed for your mobo or Qemu updated and set up with virt-manager which is some other nonsense of it's own. The whole thing is a mess all over the internet without any proper guide to complete it all in 2023. That's even after you figure you can run the legacy patcher's root patch for GPUs - says it runs on ventura but I didn't test it and without metal app support.. and you still need to know the secret boot arguments for your GPU if it's not AMD based and you'll likely get some Invalid X symbol at the second boot for not disabling system integrity protection while rooting or not copying over the EFI bc I don't even know how to safe boot to a hackintosh for turning off SIP if it doesn't boot in the first place. I will stay on Windows 10 and keep my High Sierra installation though because old software is kinda neat, less broken, and faster than whatever is out in the wild. Manjaro Linux running gnome on the other hand, or Fedora are really good for running servers without needing windows license keys and it's probably why sysadmins like linux so much tho the other software on it mostly sucks and so without maiOSX running on edge and all the web apps it's toast and the safari developer thingy on iOS doesn't work on high sierra unless you update iTunes probably which is a security update of 2gb that will break the GPU again.. it's just awful how de-constructing updates and things are on all those mac OSes are. ventura looked neat though but, too grey for me. not dark enough.

Try turning up the graphics settings in origins from low to at least medium 👍
Idk man my computer is already struggling. It loves to ctd after about fifteen minutes of play time at most x.x
I have tried the following fixes:
4gb patch
Fully updated windows
Playing online and off
Full virus scan
Mods and no mods
My most recent attempt has been to update my Nvidia drivers and force DAO to run on one CPU. we will see how it goes!
But!!! If I can get it to work I'll crank the graphics settings up and see what it takes to crash again >:3

Laptop Gaming 101: Everything You Need to Know
In the ever-evolving world of video games, laptop gaming stands out as a versatile and increasingly popular option for gamers around the globe. From the convenience of portability to the challenge of optimizing performance, gaming on a laptop offers a unique set of opportunities and obstacles.
 Choosing the Right Gaming Laptop
 1. Understanding Specifications
The heart of a good gaming experience lies in the hardware. Key components to consider include:
CPU: The processor is crucial for game performance. Look for recent generations of Intel Core laptop i5/i7/i9 or AMD Ryzen 5/7/9 processors for the best gaming experience.
GPU: The graphics processing unit is responsible for rendering game visuals. NVIDIA GeForce RTX or AMD Radeon RX series are popular choices among gamers.
RAM: Games can be memory-intensive. Aim for at least 16GB of RAM for smooth gameplay.
Storage: SSDs (Solid State Drives) offer faster game loading times compared to HDDs. A combination of both can provide ample storage and speed.
Display: A screen with a high refresh rate (120Hz or higher) and resolution (1080p or better) will make your games look and feel more fluid.
 2. Portability vs. Performance
Gaming laptops come in various sizes and weights. A thinner, lighter model of gaming laptop is easier to carry but might compromise on cooling and thus performance. Heavier models, while less portable, often offer better heat management and more powerful hardware.
 Optimizing Gaming Performance
 1. Cooling Solutions
Overheating can throttle your laptop's performance. Investing in a good cooling pad can help maintain optimal temperatures during extended gaming sessions.
 2. Battery Life
Gaming can drain your laptop's battery quickly. For longer play sessions, stay plugged into a power source. When gaming on battery, adjust your settings for a balance between performance and power consumption.
 3. Game Settings
Not all games will run smoothly on max settings. Experiment with your game's graphics settings to find the right balance between visual fidelity and frame rate.
 4. Software Updates
Keep your system's drivers and game patches up to date.
 Enhancing Your Gaming Experience
 1. External Accessories
Consider investing in external peripherals like a gaming mouse, mechanical keyboard, or a high-quality headset for better control and immersive sound.
 2. Cloud Gaming Services
For those with less powerful laptops, cloud gaming services like NVIDIA GeForce Now or Microsoft's Xbox Cloud Gaming can stream games from powerful servers to your device, bypassing hardware limitations.
 The Social Aspect
Gaming is not just about the hardware and games; it's also a way to connect with others. Platforms like Discord and Twitch allow gamers to join communities, share experiences, and even stream their gameplay to the world.
Laptop gaming combines the convenience of portability with the thrilling world of video games, offering a unique blend of challenges and rewards. By understanding the essentials—from hardware requirements and performance optimization to social engagement and cloud gaming—gamers can unlock the full potential of their gaming laptops under 1 lakh.

it is i, ur personal anon,,
i lwft void linux for debian sid cuz my netbook needs the nvidia 340xx drivers and only debian sid/unstable still officially has those of like any distro lol.
also on void i literally had to package and build my own stuff if not in the repos, i mean xbps-src templates are kinda easy BUT STILLL
honestly i jusz wanna stop worrying abt the OS i use, i want something that works fine that i can play minecraft, browse stack overflow in firefox and write shitty patched together python code on lol
void is an incredible distro, but its so different to like all of the linux ecosystem. its more like BSD but if it was a linux distro lol,,
and omfg i had to patch and fix so many things sometimes in tge source code itseld bc dumbass me thought it was a good idea to use the musl version lmao. it was fun to me, i enjoyed it, but i dont wanna only use my conputer like that. it made me learn sm tho !!
hiii, i missed you!
debian <3
don't use it anymore because it doesn't fit my usecase but it's like an objectively good distro
interesting that void requires this much manual work
definitely agree with the part that you learn something, i definitely learned a lot of stuff installing and maintaining arch
understandable that you want to use your computer for actual work
i mostly use windows for that
but a lot of stuff i use is hella unstable, i was a happy arch daily driver and my server infrastructure is in a 2+ year ongoing migration
i hope i see you again soon anon!

NVIDIA releases new driver for Starfield
NVIDIA has introduced a new driver for its video cards under version 537.13. The latest patch should provide the best experience in the space RPG Starfield, according to the developers, despite the lack of DLSS technology. You can download the add-on from the official website. At the same time, NVIDIA also added support for the New Frontiers DLC for Icarus and fixed a rare filtering bug for…

Friends. I have learned something VERY important. My computer... hates Google. No, seriously. I realized that the entire last bunch of blue screens that happened after the BIOS, Nvidia and Intel driver patches were occurring either as soon as I loaded up Chrome or was taking it down. If Chrome did manage to load, then my Nvidia graphics card would literally GROWL the entire time it was on. I am not speaking metaphorically. It sounded like it wanted to bite my ankle but now I know, it was just Google it wanted to bite.
The final piece of the puzzle was yesterday, when I tried to use Google docs (via Firefox). My computer HATED Google docs. My computer sees anything Google and it WILL do this:
Tumblr media
Apologies for the crudeness. It was what my computer insisted on in exchange for letting me type, you know, G👀gl3.
Trigger warning: flashing lights
Tumblr media
Halo 2 Honor Guards Google: "Hey, Ais' computer, would you like to see what amazing products we have for you today--ERK!" *essplodey*
Ais' computer: *Needler sounds and maniacal laughing*
(I removed Chrome, btw. Firefox has always been my main browser but sometimes it would act weird on certain sites and they'd load fine on Chrome so I'd split my browsing like that. If FF has issues with any site, I'll either try Opera for a secondary browser or *shudders* Edge - edit: no disrespect meant if you love Edge. I just had Some Problems with it back when it was Internet Explorer and I've never forgiven it. 🤷‍♀️ Either way, Chrome has gotten the boot and my computer is much happier about it.)
My frens, it is a weird new computer world I've found myself in but, if I can keep the computer from crashing, then I'll try to thrive in it. So far, at least it doesn't seem to mind me transcribing my ch7 "15 Minutes" draft into my email. It's an awkward way to edit but it's better than nothing.
Now I just have to make sure I don't mail the dang thing to somebody. Like, say, Noble Team!
Hey, guys, what did you think of my rough draft? Did you like it? What did you think about that part with the huge... Hey, WAIT A MINUTE, COME BACK HERE!
Tumblr media
Um, yeah. They loved it. I'm pretty sure they're rushing off to blog about it right now! 😇
Tumblr media
Seriously, though, I hope to have it ready to post in a couple more days. We'll see. Ch8 will be (emailing) right behind it and ch9 is still being hand written. It's... something, at least. 🤷‍♀️
I may see if the computer is stable enough for me to put my ol' faithful version of Word 2003 (my beloved) back on there. But for now, we email like a Spartan in the AU Party 'hog!

Anyway, I share because I care. Hope you all are doing well. Love you, frens. 💖💖💖

Linux Distribution: First Things To Do After Installing Ubuntu Artful Aardvark OS
Tumblr media
Ubuntu 17.10 is finally here and along with it are some significant changes like the use of swap files, installation of applications via snaps, and a refreshed Linux kernel. Aside from improvements in performance, critical bug fixes, and UI tweaks from everywhere, Ubuntu appears completely the same as before. Nevertheless, this article focuses on providing Ubuntu users new direction and further information about the latest Ubuntu update. So, let’s get to the things you need to do after installing Ubuntu 17.10. Check Latest Updates Checking for new updates will always help you to keep your system secured from any issues and bugs, so ensure you have the latest protection patches, key apps, and bug fixes. Updating your Ubuntu system will allow you to install needed permissions from the PPA repositories, so you will never encounter any issues, and also it will improve the performance of your system as well. Even though you updated recently, checking up on future updates is a must when you want to keep up with improvements in the system. Installing Graphic Drivers Since you’re operating a modern Linux system, to assure that you will get the best performance, you have to enable the needed proprietary drivers. It is an important step if you are planning to run the latest Linux apps and games that need the excellent speeds from an uncertain Wifi card, or use specifically advanced processor hallmarks. Install Media Codecs By default, Ubuntu doesn’t offer media codecs due to issues with copyright. However, Ubuntu does give users a simple way to install these codecs so that they can play MPEG4, AVI, MP3, and other various media formats. You may install all these media codecs via the Ubuntu Restricted Extra package. Utilize the Software Center Once you’ve updated the system and installed the needed codecs, it’s now time to install various software. There are several ways to install essential software in Ubuntu. The simplest, most reliable and most convenient way is by using the Software Center to look for and install the latest apps you want to download. Set Up Default Apps This step typically happens when you want to open a particular file in an application that you find the best for it to operate. For instance, you would like to run a torrent file in BitTorrent, but the Transmission is set to "run such file by default"; you can manually set up a suitable app that can open the file. Similarly, fix the Preferred Programs by "Default" in your settings. Install The Gnome Shell Extensions Gnome Shell Extensions are probably the best tools to personalize your Linux device. You can enhance the appearance of your Linux Operating System with various customized fonts, excellent skin packs, awesome icons, and many more. The Gnome shell has some cool extensions that can offer you extra aesthetical points. However, you need to activate the tweak tool first before installing all the extensions you want. Install Screen Card Definitions Most modern computers can handle Ubuntu 17.10. It’s Better to install the needed proprietary drivers rather than of the open source drivers to get the best work and performance particularly if you own AMD or Nvidia. Plus, this step is significant if you are running high definition apps and games on your system. The Latest GTK Icon Themes Ubuntu offers a set of classic looking default icons and themes, but there are times that it may feel dull and need some customization. There are so many GTK icons and themes out there to make your Ubuntu fantastic and amazing. For other personalization of the looks of Ubuntu, you can use the Gnome tweak tools. Learn To Navigate the Terminal You can do many things in Ubuntu without the use of the terminal. However, you may notice that other guides are showing how to do particular tasks on terminal commands instead of using the graphical interface since the terminal is more capable across other distributions of Linux. It's fast and easy to learn and discover how to open the terminal and start to work using the basic commands. Also, consider reviewing other guides on how to operate the file system so you can navigate the terminal easily. To determine if there is a proprietary definition suitable for your video card, run the Software & Updates application, then navigate to the Additional Drivers tab. Takeaway Ubuntu is the most famous distribution of Linux on the laptop, desktop, or personal computers, while most Ubuntu aims attention on its use in the market. Thus, Ubuntu is intended primarily for personal computers, but a server version is also existing. If you own a Linux device, and you have just updated it to Ubuntu 17.10, think of following the items listed above to ready your device for work and play. For more of tech updates, you can browse tech sites online like Deal Wiki to pick up the latest updates. Read the full article

Naughty Dog Drops the Last of Us Hotfix for Nvidia RTX 3000 GPUs
Tumblr media
A new patch for The Last of Us has been released, and it addresses a crash fix for Nvidia RTX 3000 graphics cards. Together with countless other changes, Naughty Dog promises to eventually remove the Steam Deck Unsupported badge that Valve applied to the game's retail page. The Last of Us undeniably had a messy PC debut, but Naughty Dog has continued to release post-launch fixes. While there are plenty of issues to be resolved, the first targeted crashing linked to graphics card memory requirements. The second patch takes that initial effort a step further by highlighting how to fix quirks with cards like the Nvidia RTX 3060, which just so happens to be the new most popular GPU on Steam. According to The Last of Us Part I v1.0.1.7 Patch Notes, players using an Nvidia RTX 30-series GPU should update to version Hotfix Driver Version 531.58. Thankfully, Naughty Dog includes a direct download link, so you won’t have to go hunting for it yourself. Nvidia’s patch should help elevate The Last of Us crashing concerns, but it also addresses a Resident Evil 4 Remake FXAA issue and Assassin’s Creed Origins instability. Technically, you’ve got Nvidia to thank (or perhaps blame) for the first resolution on Naughty Dog’s hotfix list. However, the developer has also made headway with a whole bunch of annoying PC port woes. Here are the fixes included with The Last of Us patch v1.0.1.7: - Fixed an issue which could cause the Xbox controller stick inputs to erroneously read as zeros for brief periods of time. - Fixed an issue where the ‘Reset to Default’ function in the Graphics menu under Settings could make improper selections. - Fixed an issue where the HUD performance monitors could impact performance when enabled - Fixed an issue where a crash could occur when using to toggle between Fullscreen and Windowed modes. - Fixed an issue where a memory crash could occur during the transition from the end of the game into the credits sequence. - Fixed an issue that could cause a crash while the game launched. - Added additional crash report logs to provide further insight for developers. - Added a new feature where users will be prompted to enable additional GPU diagnostic tooling following a GPU-related crash (optional and only enabled for the current gameplay session). Earlier today, Naughty Dog revealed another update would arrive this Friday, and that could help boost playability further. On the Last of Us Steam Deck compatibility front, while the studio is evidently prioritising patches for now, it claims it’ll work towards achieving Verified status in the future. Of course, you don’t need Valve’s say-so to play the PlayStation game on Valve’s portable PC, as the verification is designed to be a helpful handheld heads-up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vh7W9trCZTE Even if Naughty Dog magically manages to completely fix the game by Friday, we’d still strongly advise checking out The Last of Us system requirements. Doing so will ensure your rig can actually run the demanding apocalyptic drama, as the minimum bar isn’t so low. Unfortunately, even the best rigs will have to deal with The Last of Us building shaders issue, so keep that in mind when starting a new game. While you’re at it, take a look at our best Last of Us settings list. We’ve tested various ways to strike a balance between frame rate and fidelity, and you should be able to boost fps even further with a little bit of options menu tinkering. Read the full article

However, the game's release has not been without its fair share of issues. Many players have reported experiencing frequent game stutters and crashes, along with the dreaded "LowLevelFatalError." This error occurs when the game tries to launch but crashes as soon as it loads into the open world, resulting in a pop-up appearing on the screen.
Hogwarts Legacy Low Fatal Error Fix
The good news is that there are a few possible solutions to this problem, and today's guide will go over how to deal with the "LowLevelFatalError" in Hogwarts Legacy. Updating Your GPU Drivers One of the most common reasons for the "LowLevelFatalError" in any game is outdated GPU drivers. Both Nvidia and AMD have their own desktop software that will automatically allow you to detect and download the latest updates. Driver issues are some of the biggest culprits behind the "LowLevelFatalError," and Hogwarts Legacy is no exception to this rule. Updating your GPU drivers to the most recent patch should be the first step in troubleshooting the problem. Checking for File Integrity Another possible reason behind the error could be the existence of corrupt files in the installation directory. Corrupted files will frequently cause game crashes and other performance issues. To fix this problem, you will need to verify the integrity of the game files. To do so, follow these steps: - Open the Steam client - Right-click on the game - Select Properties - Click on Local Files - Select Verify Integrity of Game Files - The Steam client will automatically go through all the files in the Hogwarts Legacy installation directory and replace any that may have been damaged. Disabling Game Optimization If you heavily rely on Nvidia's GeForce Experience and use its game optimization feature often, you may need to turn it off for Hogwarts Legacy. To do so, follow these steps: - Click on the Gear icon in the top-right corner of the client - Select the game - Remove the checkmark beside Automatically Optimize - Re-Installing the Game If the above steps fail, re-installing the RPG may be the next best bet. This will likely weed out other performance errors along with the "LowLevelFatalError." Waiting for a Patch Avalanche Software is likely aware of all the performance issues that PC users are facing with Hogwarts Legacy. Hence, the company is likely to fix most of them with a day-one patch along with other updates in the coming weeks.
