The Selkie in Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian folklore is a woman of the ocean who lives inside of a seal's skin. If a man were to find her skin after she took it off to sunbathe she would be his wife. But if she were to find her skin again she would go back to the ocean, free.
This was the founder, Kimberly Gordon's, favourite folklore tale growing up. To her the story represented a woman, any woman, finding and being comfortable with her own skin and being free in it and the brand has been modelled after these ideals.
Selkie was founded in the fall of 2018 as a ready-to-wear brand for women who just wanted something 'fanciful, nostalgic and extremely romantic.'
SELKIE SPRING 2023 was added onto NYFW. The main theme was 'UNICORN.' The runway itself included a wide variety of body sizes and shapes, a multitude of ethnicities and ages and it also included those with disabilities onto the runway. In my opinion, it is a statement saying that anyone can be a model and the models themselves looked like they were actually enjoying themselves with big smiles and theatrics.
I'm glad that this runway and brand is gaining lots of traction because it is a brand which genuinely cares about the inclusivity of everyone.
The lead makeup artist was Danessa Myricks, and their talented friend Linh Nguyen was leading the hair. The show was styled by Alisha Silverstein with Kimberley Gordon and Justine Babb. It was produced by Emily Bungert and cast by Julia Samersova with Kimberley Gordon.聽
Handbags, including pastels and original jewellery like effervescent unicorn crowns and butterfly bustiers, were made in collaboration with Stonehart for this specific runway.

That's all. Thank you for letting me rant on about a brand that really like.
See you soon,

Greg From 'White Lotus' Makes Runway Cameo at Eckhaus Latta's NYFW Show
Another Fashion Week another viral White Lotus moment, only this time it happened on the runway instead of on the front row. After a bunch of the HBO series cast like Adam DiMarco, Theo James and Sabrina Impacciatore hit up shows all over Milan and Paris, New York's cameo on Saturday night was by Jon Gries, the actor who plays Greg aka Tanya's scheming husband.Related | 'White Lotus' Actors Take Over Fashion WeekGries glided and turned all around the runway in a soft green knit top and linen trousers as everyone in the audience snapped videos of the actor-turned-Eckhaus Latta model. His choice of casting is not new for Eckhaus Latta, a brand that has long included models of various body types, ages, sizes, colors and gender expressions on the runway. There's even been a pregnant model one time."For us, it鈥檚 always been important," Zoe Latta once said in a 2018 interview of their diverse casting. "We鈥檙e happy to see the industry change, or upset to see it not change. It just seems like a necessity. The point of casting is to represent a group of people that you鈥檇 want to see in your clothes. And it鈥檚 crazy to us that you鈥檇 only see one kind of person."For Fall 2023, Eckhaus Latta played with sheer organza tops in amber, cord-snap trousers, coated ultra-wide legged jeans and lots of black shearling. The show notes included a poem by New Yorker writer Rachel Aviv about clothes, distress and finding God.See more looks from the Eckhaus Latta Fall 2023 show in the gallery, below.Photos courtesy of Eckhaus Latta/ Madison Voelkel
