does anyone else have this weird relationship with food predicated on a different understanding of hunger?
i tend to order out and then pass on leftovers to friends. one friend gets the leftovers a lot because we’re neighbors, and whenever i ask her if she wants it, she always asks me “are you gonna eat it?”
and every time i say “no,” i have to bite back my instinctual response because then i know she won’t take it and i’ll put it in my fridge and eat all of it
my actual answer is “yes,” but not because i’m hungry. i’ll eat it because it’s there and i want it and i love food and the sad reality is that you could ask me “are you gonna eat it” to every piece of food i have and the answer is yes, even when i’m full.
it’s also really awkward when i offer people food and then also finish the entire plate, sometimes i get “wow, you were really hungry, how come you offered me some!” and the truth is, i wasn’t hungry. i mean i was probably, initially, but when i was at a heavier weight i started to realize that i ate because i ate.
i offer people food because in all likelihood i can and i will finish all the food on my plate if i don’t otherwise, and it’s not that i don’t want to but that i’ve eaten like that my whole life, it’s just impossible to start.
i don’t know why i am like this, but i am. i just don’t understand questions like “are you gonna eat it,” because i guess i’m not trying to solve a hunger, but removing a temptation and most people don’t see food like that at all.

People constantly ask "why am I gaining weight? I eat healthy/I exercise!" Friends, maybe it is time to reanalyze your dieting plan. Food is the #1 reason for weight gain. More specifically, excessive calories are the reason for weight gain.
The average woman burns anywhere from 1,600-2,400 calories a day, and the average man burns 2,000-3,000 a day. This means that if you burn 1,800 calories a day, and you eat 3,000 calories a day, you will gain weight. It's as simple as calories in, calories out.
I highly encourage people who are struggling with their weight to:
1. Track their caloric intake
2. Reassess their relationship with food
Tracking your caloric intake really shows you how quickly those bad boys add up. Also, when you track your calories, you are showing yourself just how much you are eating. This helps you understand whether or not you are truly hungry. Lots of obese people struggle with eating their feelings, eating excessively, or eating out of boredom. Many struggle with all of these.
After a while, our bodies forgets what hunger truly feels like. We just eat to eat. When you stop and assess yourself, this can help you understand whether or not you are actually hungry. I like to use this chart.

I can’t emphasize how little I knew about portion sizing. Around noon I wanted some mac and cheese for lunch, and it was a shock realizing how much all the cheesy toppings and butter meant that even a 1/2 cup of mac and cheese could have so many calories.
Full disclosure, I ate the 1/2 cup, because I love eating mac and cheese like that and I’m not about a super restrictive diet, but I got a cup of green beans to chop up and mix in and I logged the calories.
It filled me up and gave me the illusion that I was eating more of the mac and cheese than I was. Using actual measurements is enlightening.

The fact that I’m 32 pounds away from losing 100 pounds in the last 3-4 months makes me so happy… yet I’m struggling to find where the weight has supposedly disappeared too. I still look the same
