You can't breathe, the air growing thick and catching in your lungs as you watch the complete massacre surround you. Padawans, younglings, masters and knights dead on the ground of the temple as clones, people you considered friends and family kill off any jedi in sight.
How did this happen? Things were okay, you were close to ending the war and moving on from the nightmare that has been the last three years.
So close to rest, only for it to slip away from your fear stricken hands as you fought off clones.
 The few padawans you had saved were hidden away in a supply closet far away from the main grounds as you did a final sweep for survivors. The image of you, the only standing Jedi in a room with your brethren  dead at your feet, had made you numb. The smell of seared flesh and balster residue made you nauseous as you covered your nose and mouth with your cloak.
You were supposed to be with Obi-wan Kenobi, a close companion on Utapau to help him fight General Grievous but was asked to stay back and look after the younglings as the rest of the council was busy dealing with chancellor Palpatine.
You weren't sure if the clone attack was planet wide, you hoped not for Obi-wan's sake, you knew Anakin was somewhere here, sensing his force signare only hours ago.
Your heart grieved for Obi-wan and Anakin, the two being the closest thing you had to family during the Clone wars. You had known Anakin since Obi-wan brought him to the temple after Qui-Gon Jinn died, leaving Obi-wan, a padawan at the time to train Anakin. The boy rumored to be the chosen one  and to bring balance to the force. But you had known Obi-wan for longer than that, both of you becoming padawans at the same time as each other and growing close as the year went on and becoming a confidant for him as you adjusted to the new pressures and grief in his life.
But you couldn't think about them right now, you had to protect yourself as you gripped the hilt of your lightsaber. The indigo hue humming in your hand as you deflect blaster shots coming at you, the bright light going back to the clone and going through his head. You sprinted away from the mass crowd of clones making their way to you,  avoiding corpses of people you once knew as you made your way back to the supply closest.
The adrenaline poured from every crevice of your body as you used the force to remove the statue blocking the door as you entered. The younglings looked at you in horror before they realized who you were, their small faces covered in scratches and bruises as you covered the door again. You slid down against the way and covered your mouth, holding back the stress and fear crashing over you as you held the small children.
“Rest small ones, I promise all will be over soon.” you whispered.
At least you hoped it would be.
It must've been hours before you felt safe enough to have your force signature out as you sensed the area around you. The force rippled around you and the safety you once felt within it was strained as if the loss from today managed to break its once strong walls of security. It was quiet now, the sounds of blasters and screams gone as you stood up, the younglings woke up as you looked around the area, clearing the area before you rushed the children out of the small room.You knew you had to get the younglings safe and out of here before you went off to look more into what happend. You guided the children around the temple until you ran into Cere Junda and her padawan Trilla.
You sighed in relief at the familiar friend, grasping her hand tightly when you grew closer.
“I'm so glad to see you safe Cere,” you said, your voice raw with emotion. “You as well Trilla,” you said, placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Glad to see you survive this nightmare as well.” Cere said.
You looked at her with desperation, your hands reaching behind you and guiding the three younglings in front of you.
“I need you to watch over these three, I need to go back to the main corridor and find more survivors and look at the security holocron footage.” you begged,  almost collapsing  in relief when Cere nodded.
“Of course, have you heard from General Kenobi?” she asked, her voice soft. The teasing she would make you endure about your relationship with him seemed like a distant memory now. You shook your head, your eyes prickling with emotion.
“No, not as of yet.” you said, ignoring the growing pit of pure fear at the thought of him being dead. You sighed and cleared your throat as you kneeled down in front of the younglings, their scared faces would haunt you for years.
“Listen,” you said sternly, “You listen to Master Cere okay?”
The small nods of obedience relaxed you a bit.
“Remember, when all seems to be lost trust only in the force.” you said, with that you stood up and began to walk away from the small group.
As you made your way back to the main hall, the number of bodys crowded at your feet made you shudder.  You almost expected them to be gone for some reason, but seeing them right where they were before, unloved and pale as you avoided the haunted look at blank open eyes.
Hypervigilance pricked at your bones, you kept your body stiff as you listened for any sound or movement around you and although threat seemed to be gone, you would've done anything to have your armor you wore during battle in the war  zone on you instead of the cloak and tunic you currently supported. The walk of avoiding bodys and making sure no one would come at you had made you slowly make your way into the main hall.
You could feel two life forces through the force,  holding your breath as you crept forward, hand gripping your lightsaber tightly as you ducked behind a pillar. You paused for a moment and took a deep breath before you looked from your cover.
You went numb as you saw Obi-wan and Yoda a few feet away from you, this time you didn't hold back a shuddering breath as you clipped your saber onto your belt and stepped out, you walked as fast as you could.
“Obi-wan!” you shouted, the man's head snapped at his name and once he saw it was you, you could see relief overcome him.
“Y/n?”
You jogged as fast as you could while being respectful to the dead around you, Obi-wan met you halfway, the weight of his body collided with yours as you both clenched to each other, hands gripping to whatever they could grab. You never, ever would've done this in a place so open like the temple. Hugs like this were reserved for late night room visits in private, away from judging eyes.
One out of your two men were safe and alive, and that thought alone gave you hope that Anakin was okay.
“Thank the gods you're okay,” you cried, no longer caring about the code anymore. You didn't care about Master Yoda seeing the blatant show of compassion, of attachment and for once it seemed Obi-wan didn't care either.
You had a feeling, the council wasn't here to judge you anymore anyways.
“Are you okay?” he asked, you nodded into his shoulder and pulled away from him. His hand, calloused and rough rested on your face, making you look at him.
“I'm okay.” you whispered.
You held his gaze for a moment before you remembered Master Yoda, you pulled away from the grip Obi-wan held on you and kneeled
“Master Yoda, I'm so glad you made it out safely as well.” you said sincerely, putting a hand on top of his head.
“Glad to see you safe Master y/n, I am.”
You stood back up and looked at Obi-wan.
“There's a signal telling Jedi to come to the temple, we're going to the security station to ward off anyone else from showing up.” Obi-wan said.
You nodded and followed Yoda to the security room, you took the time to press your force signature into Obi-wan's, the familiar presence overcame you. The feeling of warmth and tenderness along with swirls of worry and pain grounded the fact that he was here and alive next to you.
You reached your hand out  and grazed his, the small movement making him grasp yours.
“Anakin,” you said hesitantly. “Have you heard from him?” you whispered, Obi-wan shook his head and you felt a wave of fear roll over your from Obi-wan.
He'll be okay, he's a strong kid.” you said softly. Obi-wan only nodded in response and stayed silent until you reached the security room.
It was odd seeing the room that usually had guards around be empty, and you hated the way you walked in with such ease as Obi-wan headed straight to the code receiver.
You watched as Obi-wan changed the code alerting all survivors to stay away, the blue light eliminating his face as he closed the signal box. A simple action that took a minute at most saving hundreds of lives.
“It will take a long time for the clones to notice the signal change.” you said quietly. Yoda nodded in agreement as Obi-wan emerged from the small doorway. Yoda began to leave the room, but you and Obi-wan stayed still eyeing the security device. After a moment you walked over to the security recording device, and turned it on, you felt Obi-wan come up behind you. His hand grasping your shoulder tightly.
“If you go into the security recordings you go, only pain will you find.” Yoda warned.
“I must know the truth master,” Obi-wan said as you reached forward and began to rewind the recording.
You stopped at the sight of Anakin, his saber drawn as he killed younglings in cold blood, you covered your mouth in horror at the sight.
“No.” you whispered in disbelief. “No it can't be true.” you said, your voice muffled from your hand. Your body unconsciously stepped back from the image as if it had burned you.
“It can't be, It can't be.” Obi-wan said in disbelief as the recording switched to Anakin kneeling in front of chancellor Palpatine, but from the sight he was in you realized quickly this was the sith lord Obi-wan had feared.
You watched as Anakin accepted his new title as Lord Vader before Obi-wan stopped the recording. You shook your head in disbelief, how did this happen?
“I can't watch anymore.” Obi-wan said, his voice shook slightly.
“Destroy the sith we must.” Yoda said gravely. Obi-wan released his grip on your shoulder as he stepped in front of you to talk to Yoda. you looked over in shock at Yoda's words, no shock or hesitation in voice.
“Send me to kill the emperor, I will not kill Anakin.” Obi-wan said sternly.
“To fight this lord Sidious strong enough you are not.”
“He is like my brother. I cannot do it.” Obi-wan pleaded, you watched silently, unsure on what to do.
“Twisted by the dark side young Skywalker has become.” Yoda sighed.” The boy you trained, gone he is.”
“I don't know why the emperor has sent him. I don't know where to look.” Obi-wan exclaimed.
Yoda walked away before he turned to look at him.
“Use your feelings Obi-wan and find him you will.” Yoda simply said before he left the room.
You looked over at Obi-wan, his face showed nothing but confusion and pain. You were sure your face showed the same feelings as you ignored the sick feeling in your gut as you came to a harsh realization.
“I was there,” you breathed out disgust with yourself, Obi-wan turned to you. “I was with the younglings when it all went down and I felt his presence in the temple hours before.” you looked at Obi-wan in distress grasping the tunic that laid across your chest, your voice breaking at the thought. “That means he was right next to me when he killed those..” you couldn't even finish the sentence. How did you not feel him so near?
 “I could've done something, I could have stopped him from killing those childe-” you hitch a breath. “I should've read more into the force, not shut it away.” you scolded yourself, your hands finding your hair as you gripped the roots.
“Y/n,” Obi-wan said sadly, stepping forward and pulling your hands away from the death grip on the strands of hair. You looked up at Obi-wan as you as your face crumpled from grief. Grief from losing friends, fellow jedi, losing the younglings, and losing Anakin.
From failing from your duty.
“I failed them.” you gasped out as you were pulled into Obi-wan's embrace. You were being selfish and you knew it, but you needed one moment. Just one of pure sorrow and hopelessness, you couldn't hold onto these feelings or else you'd drown in them.
“You protected yourself, and I know you saved as many people as you could. You were outmatched, we all were.” Obi-wan comforted. “You did your best and that's all that you can do.”
Your arms were under his, your hand curling and gripping Obi-wan's back and taking a deep breath. Your thoughts slowed to a more productive mindset as you nodded against him, you pulled away, wiping away your tears.
“We need to go see Padme,” you said, in determination.
Obi-wan Nodded.
“I agree.”
~~~~~~~
Anakin never said anything explicit about his and Padme's relationship,  but you as well as Obi-wan had your suspicions about the two over the last few years. The closest you could get to a confession was making fun of him seeing her and he would grow red in his face which would result in a halfhearted insult about you and Obi-wan or when you joined Padme to Senate meetings and would integrate her, watching any reaction she made.
She never let anything show, beside a light smile.
You paused your movement in the hallway leading up to Padme's corridors, a thought coming into your head as Obi-wan turned to you.
“What is it?” he asked.
“Do we tell her about what he did?” you asked, you didn't want to hurt her that was never your goal but if anyone knew where Anakin would be, it would be her.
Obi-wan stroked his beard before he nodded.
“If the need shows, but I suspect she will find out either way.” he said in thought.
You nodded in agreement before you continued on walking.
Padme's room was far more beautiful than your tiny room in the temple. Compliments of tan, white, red, and gold decorated the room. The large balcony allowed a soft breeze in, the weather was far too beautiful for this situation.
“When was the last time you saw him?” you asked, walking aside Padme. Her face was scrunched in worry but her eyes fluttered around nervously. She knew where he was, you just know it.
“Yesterday.” she said.
“And do you know where he is now?” Obi-wan pressed.
She paused for a moment, the walking stopping in the small circle in the center of her couches.
“No,”  she sighed.
“We need your help.” Obi-wan confessed, his voice bordering on begging.
“Padme,” you said, touching her arm. “He is in grave danger.”
Padme spun around, her face pale.
“From the sith?!” she gasped, you and Obi-wan shook your heads.
“From himself,” you said softly, “Anakin has turned to the darkside.”
Padme scoffed in disbelief as she looked at you in shock.
“You're wrong, How could you even say that?”
You and Obi-wan looked at each other, the pain of even saying what Anakin has done hurt too much.
“We have seen a-a security hologram…” Obi-wan started. “Of him killing younglings.” he finished, his face taut with an emotion You couldn't quite place.
“Not Anakin,” Padme denied. “He couldn't.”
You looked at her sadly.
“He was deceived by a lie. We all were.” you crossed your arms. “It appears that the chancellor is behind everything, including the war. Palpatine is the sith lord we've been looking for.” you explained, your heart hurt more and more as you watched Padme’s face fall.
“Anakin became his apprentice after Count Dooku died.” Obi-wan added
Padme stumbled backward until she was sitting on the couch, her face calm but also in shock as she started ahead.
“I don't believe you,” she said. “I cant.” she whispered.
You and Obi-wan moved to sit on either side of her, you gripped her hand tight as you looked at her.
“Padme, we must find him.” Obi-wan said. She looked between the both of you, her brows furrowed as she leaned back.
“You're going to kill him, aren't you?”
You looked down at your lap, ignoring her gaze.
“He's become a great threat.” Obi-wan warned, you kept your eyes down.
“I cant.”
You watched her grip her stomach, swollen and large. You Had only  recently become aware of her pregnancy,  your reaction was nothing but joy when she told you but seeing her in denial and shock as she cradled her bump made something click in your mind at her reaction. You watched Obi-wan sigh and stand up, but you sat still as you stared at her. Eyes solemn but knowing as you leaned back.
“Anakin is the father, isn't he?” you asked, Padme looked at you for a moment before she looked away, you could see tears building in her eyes. You close your eyes at the confirmation, standing up and kissing her head, you're watching two people you viewed as family lives become destroyed in a matter of a few hours.
“I'm so sorry.” you whispered, voice broken as you walked away, following Obi-wan to the ship. He climbed into the passenger before he held a hand out to you, helping you into the passenger.
You watched as the top came down over your head as Obi-wan flew away, you stared at the window watching other ships and speeders fly around you.
“That poor baby,” you sighed, rubbing at your eyes for a moment. “Padme is going to go after him, you know that right?” you said looking at Obi-wan. He kept his gaze on the traffic as he took a sharp turn.
“I know, that's why we're going with her,” he said.
~~~~
When he said you would be going with her you went expecting having to crouch behind a supply crate and wait until Padme went into the ship, and the flight crew left the landing strip. You followed after Obi-wan, pulling your hood over your head as you snuck onto the ship. It was a large ship, but open enough if both the droids were not up front with Padme, they would see us and alert her of our presence.
Obi-wan opened the door to a closet and you both climbed in, the room was small but if you slid yourself between Obi-wan and leaned against his chest you guys were able to sit on the floor.
He sighed, and you knew his exhaustion came from the overwhelming emotions,  the fight he had with Grievous and the crushing fear of what he had to do next.
You grabbed his hands and wrapped him around your middle, he sighed at the comfort and rested his head against your shoulder. You gripped his hand tightly, to make sure he wouldn't disappear.
“I'm sorry,” you whispered.
“For what?” he asked, confused.
“You don't deserve this, Obi-wan,” you said. “It's not fair.”
Obi-wan stayed silent for a moment.
“I don't know if I can do this,” he admitted. “He's my brother, Y/n”
“Let me help you, us two going against Anakin would be better than just you. It's better than going in there alone.” you proposed.
“No,” he said immediately, his hand reaching up and cupping your jaw to lean back so you look him in the eyes. “I've lost enough today, I can't lose you too.” he said, you could feel his breath on your face.
“I can't lose you either.” you said, with the same amount of seriousness. “Let me help,” you begged.
“I have to do this on my own,” Obi-wan said. You went to argue but he shook his head.
“Stay on the ship, stay with Padme if anything goes wrong.”
You opened your mouth to argue but a small flash of light illuminated Obi-wan's face and you could see the pure desperation on his features.
“Okay,” you gave in. “Just come home, you have to promise me to come home.” you said.
Obi-wan looked at you, his face soft as he agreed, he leaned forward and pressed a soft kiss on your lips for a few moments before pulling away.
You smiled, a bittersweet feeling swirling in you happily, after years of soft touches and hugs and knowing the feeling was there but never acting on it in fear of the council you got to kiss him, but in pain as this could very well be the first and last time you get to do it.
You and Obi-wan sat together in silence for the rest of the trip, you wanted to tell him everything you've been holding back for the last 12 years but you couldn't find the words so you relied on using the force and pushing your force signature on him. Using silent communication to express the admiration you had.
Obi-wan gripped you tightly as he embraced the feelings from you, his voice shuddering a breath deep from his chest.
“Me too love, me too.” he said quietly, as soon as the words spilled from his lips you felt the ship hit solid land. You squeezed your eyes shut as you raised Obi-wan's hand to your mouth, pressing a long kiss to it. Your fears and doubts bubbling over as you and Obi-wan crawled out of the closet, and kept close to the wall. Staying out of Padme's sight until you heard the hatch of the ship go down and saw her leave.
You and obi-wan moved closer so you can see them outside. The heat of this planet was unbearable already. The heat makes you sweat under your tunic as you watch the couple reunite.
You listened to Padme beg Anakin to leave, to go raise their child. but Anakin refused, saying his powers were the only way he could save Padme and together they could kill the chancellor and rule the galaxy together.
God, the sight made you uncomfortable as you watched Anakin Skywalker fade away in front of your eyes as he shed the skin of his former self revealing a power hungry psychopath.
You watched Padme back away in fear and you stepped forward, moving onto the ramp leading outside. You could hear Obi-wan curse before he followed you, but it didn't take long for Anakin to spot the two of you.
“I love you!” Padme begged, but Anakin's face contorted with rage.
“Liar!” he screamed, Padme gasped and looked behind her to see the two of you.
“No!” Padme shouted.
You and Obi-wan began to walk down the ramp, going slowly to try not to provoke Anakin anymore.
“You're with them!” Anakin shouted. “You brought them here to kill me.” he accused, raising his hand in front of him. You watched with shock as he began to force choke her, her feet lifting off the ground.
“Let her go, Anakin.” Obi-wan demanded, quickly descending down the stairs. You followed quickly behind him.
“Let her go!” you shouted. Anakin looked at you for a moment before releasing his grip on her, you shot forward and used the force to lay her on the ground so the baby wouldn't get harmed from the fall. You dropped to your knees and dragged her head into your lap, your hands fumbling for a pulse.
You sighed in relaise under the fluttering pulse under your fingertips.
“You turned her against me!” Anakin blamed, but obi-wan stood still and was calm. His anger wasn't like Anakins, his was a controlled storm, while the man across from him swirled like it destroyed everything in his path.
“You have done that yourself.” Obi-wan said, watching as Anakin shed away his cloak as he paced around. The only way you can describe Anakin's body language was feral and dangerous.
“You will not take her from me!”
“Your anger and lust for power have already done that.” Obi-wan shrugged off his cloak and began to walk around Anakin. You slowly reached for the lightsaber in your hand and unclipped it from your belt in case Anakin or Obi-wan got to close with their quickly approaching battle.
“You have allowed this dark lord to twist your mind, until now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy.
“Don't lecture me Obi-wan.” Anakin warned. “I see through the lies of the Jedi, I do not fear the darkside as you do.” Anakin turned as he spoke and Obi-wan kneeled down and touched Padme's face. He looked at you, and you nodded back a silent gesture of saying the two of you were okay.
“I have brought peace, freedom, justice and security to my new empire!” Anakin announced as Obi-wan stood up. The two of you looked at him in shock at his words.
“You're a new empire?” Obi-wan asked in disbelief.
“Don't make me kill you.” Anakin warned.
“Anakin, our allegiance is to the republic, to democracy!” Obi-wan shouted.
“Anakin, we're not trying to be against you! But you're being irrational right now! We just want you safe! Padme wants you safe!” you explained. “Going down this path will do more harm than good, I know deep down you see that!” you begged, watching Anakin turn back to the two of you. “Look at what you're doing! Look at what you're doing to your wife and child, what you're doing to Obi-wan, to me. If We will not stand by your side and watch you destroy everything you cared about!” you spat, anger heavy on your tongue,
“If you're not with me, then you're my enemy.” he said, raising his hand again. You felt a tight pressure around your neck as you gasped, you glared at him as you quickly put up the mental barrier from Anakin. He dropped you after a moment, your hand coming up to your neck as you felt the blood rush under and feeling a bruise begin to form.
“Only a Sith deals in absolutes.” Obi-wan said, dread and anger lacing in his voice. “I will do as I must.”
The sound of lightsabers activating made you scoot yourself and Padme to a safer distance. Obi-wan stood tall with his saber at his side. The blue hue makes a stark contrast compared to the red and orange surroundings.
“You will try.” Anakin said, turning on his lightsaber.
The fight started before you could even blink, the two blue sabers clash against each other as they slowly backed away from you, moving into the building.
You took the chance to quickly pick up Padme and run her back into the ship, you quickly place Padme in the medbay before you run out to the head of the ship.
“C-3PO, please go watch over Padme.” you asked, as you quickly grabbed the coms and input the code to a former senator you once guarded and a friend of Padme and the Jedi as a whole.
“Senator Organa?” you called out, as you searched for a pair of Macrobinalurs. “Bail? This is Master y/n please make contact.” you said, as you pulled open a hatch and found a pair of macrobinoculars. You hovered it over your eyes and you could see a huge explosion of lava and part of the metal rig melt off into the river of lava you zoomed in closer as you saw flicks of blue. You swallowed back bile at the sight of the two men in such danger.
You heard the hologram crackle before Senator Organa appeared in front of you.
“Master y/n? Are you still there?” Bail called out, you looked away from the scene playing  in front of you and looked at the hologram.
“Bail, you're the only person I can trust right now, and I know you're friends with Padme. Anakin Skywalker has turned to the darkside and choked her, she's still alive but…” you paused for a moment. “Something is off and I need to get her medical attention.”
“I'm in the outer rim, on a planet called Polis Massa. We have Master Yoda here as well and will be safe for you to come too, I'll send you the coordinates.” he said,
“Thank you, I'm waiting for Master Kenobi to finish his confrontation with Skywalker but we will be there as soon as we can.” You said, you turned off the comm before he could reply as you lifted the binoculars to your eyes again, but quickly cursed once you saw that both of the men were too far away from your sight.
You brought your knees to your chest on the pilot chair as you stared out the window, you wished you pushed harder to go fight Anakin with him, providing back up so Anakin didn't shove him in lava or stab him in the chest.
Anger was the emotion you were expecting the least as you waited for Obi-wan, you were angry over someone trying to kill you, losing fellow jedi, losing Anakin, and possibly Obi-wan now. You tried to meditate to relieve yourself from the simmering anger, you were scared now if you were being honest, Anakin fell so quickly to the dark side. You were afraid if you even acknowledged the emotions you felt now you would suddenly become a sith.
“Trust in the force.” you murmed to yourself, then embraced the feeling. You knew the force wouldn't hurt you, being intune with it since you were a child it felt like home after a long mission, it felt safe.
And that was all you can ask for at this time.
An hour had passed since then, if Obi-wan had died you aren't sure how long you would wait before you left, the thought alone had made you stand up and walk down the ramp. You knew Obi-wan's cloak was still on the ground and all you wanted was to hold something of him. Your own cloak was off including your tunic, the heat was insufferable but when you see the brown fabric rumpled on the ramp you slid it on without a second thought.
You crossed your arms over each other as you watched the lava down below, the hissing of magma was the sound you heard for a long time.
Until, you his R2-D2 beep excitedly, you turned around quickly and froze.
Obi-wan appeared from the hall, covered soot and clothes filled with burn holes, but he seemed rather unharmed. He froze when he saw you standing there, his eyes tired and bloodshot.
“Anakin..is he..?” you asked quietly, Obi-wan looked down and you saw his body began to shake. You ran forward and slammed your bodys together, both of you gripping each other like a lifeline. You could feel tears drip down your neck from where Obi-wan had burrowed his face. Your face tucked into the crook of his neck, positive your tears were dripping onto him. Your hand sprawled over the expanse of his back while his hand was embedded in your hair. You would do anything to forget how hard his hands trembled that moment.
Your heart ached for Anakin, for the boy you saw as a brother or even a son but your heart also ached for Padme and Obi-wan.
“Are you injured?” you asked, your voice cracking as you placed a gentle hand on his face. The hair of his beard tickles the skin of your fingers as you turn his face at different angles searching for damage.
“No, I'm okay.” he murmured, his blue orbs scanning over you as well. You pushed the sweat slicked hair away from his eyes so he can see better. His eyes landed on the dark bruise on your neck, his hand came to graze over the abused skin.
“Master y/n, Master Kenobi.” C-3PO called out from the ramp, you turned around as looked at the droid. “Let's hurry and leave this dreadful place.”
You and Obi-wan walked onboard the ship, R2D2 following closely behind as the ramp closed behind you. You walked Obi-wan to where Padme was, leaning on the door frame as you watched him put a gentle hand on her shoulder. Her eyes fluttered open and looked up at him.
“Obi-wan? Is Anakin alright?”
He placed his hand on her cheek as her eyes closed again, he looked over at you in worry.
“I contacted Senator Organa while you were gone, he's on Polis Massa with Yoda. we're going to take her there for a check up and to figure out what we're doing next.” you explained, holding out your hand. He sighed as he grabbed your hand, allowing you to guide him to the passenger seat as you planted yourself into the pilot seat, flicking on controls and imputing the coordinates you were sent, eager to leave this planet as fast as you can.
As you flew the ship out of the atmosphere you could see Obi-wan cover his face, you frowned before you went into hyperdrive, allowing the plane to do the work for a moment. You turned the chair you were in until it looked at the tired man head on.
“What happened out there?” you asked, although you didn't want to know. But knowing Obi-wan, he would let this sit for years and you couldn't let that happen.
“I-” he began before he sighed, looking over to you.
You were confused on why he went silent before you flinched back in your seat, visions of fire and lava flashing in your eyes, you saw Anakin and Obi-wan fighting on the river as clashes of lightsabers echoed in your ears. the vision shifted to seeing Anakin's legs getting cut off and his screams of pain rattled in your brain.
“I Hate you!” Anakin bellowed, Obi-wan's face was twisted in anguish.
“You were my brother Anakin, I loved you!”
The last thing you saw before Obi-wan cut off the connection was Anakin's body burning alive as he kneeled down and grabbed his little brother's lightsaber.
Once the vision was gone you let out the breath you were holding as you looked back at obi-wan, you hand shot forward and gripped his tight to ground yourself to the present.
“I'm sorry,” he apologized. “I just couldn't say the words.”
“No” you said after a minute of calming down. “Don't apologize, you didn't do anything wrong. It's just startling to see.” you swallowed before you spoke again. “You kept his lightsaber?”
Obi-wan nodded before pulling out the weapon and carefully handing it to you, your fingers grazed the handle and just held it for a moment before giving it back to Obi-wan.
A beeping made you jump, realizing you made it to your destination, you looked over at C3-PO and asked him to land the ship.
You stood up and walked to the small area you had taken off your tunic earlier, you grabbed the dark brown tunic and slid it on. Your hand wrapping and tying the material quickly after years of practice before you went back to meet up with Obi-wan.
You let Obi-wan grab Padme as you walk down the ramp greeting Bail, obi-wan close behind you as the senator leads you to the medical center.
 ~~~~~
You, Obi-wan, Yoda, bail, C3-PO,  and R2D2, watched Padme's unconscious form as the medical droid scanned her. Your hand gripping Obi-wan's hand as you watched in silence. It only took the droids  a few minutes before one appeared from the door.
“Medically, she's completely healthy.” the droid said, you sighed in relief. “But for reasons we can't explain, we are losing her.” He finished, you looked at him in shock.
“She's dying?” Obi-wan said in shock.
“We don't know why, she has lost the will to live and we need to operate quickly if we are to save the babies.”
You and obi-wan halted at that, your grip in his hand going loose as you looked at the droid in surprise.
“Babies?” you said.
“She's carrying twins.” the droid confirmed.
Obi-wan moved away from your touch as he moved closer to the glass pane, watching padme closely as he stroked his beard. A habit youve seen from him many times in the last few years.
So you waited until she woke up, you and Obi-wan rushing into the room and joining her on each side of Padme's head. Her sobbing and whimpering echoed around the room, the sound making you wince as the first baby was delivered. The sound of a baby crying quickly filled the air as the baby was handed off to Obi-wan, who held the baby with such care as he leaned down and showed his face to his mother.
“Luke.” she said softly, her voice weak and quiet for a few moments before she grunted, her voice horse from screams. You watched as tears pooled in the corner of her eyes. Reaching forward you dabbed away the tears.
“You got this Padme, just keep breathing.” you murmured, your voice soft as she gripped your hand. The sound of the second baby's cries appeared once more as the robot said something you didn't understand.
“It's a girl.” Obi-wan announced as the droid handed you the little girl, you kneeled down and showed her face to the woman.
“Leia” Padme sighed.
You smiled at the name.
“It's beautiful, both of them are.” you said.
Padme began to breathe heavily, as if she was struggling to get air into her lungs. You and obi-wan shared a concerned glance.
“Obi-wan, y/n?” Padme gasped and you nodded, shifting Leia into one arm as you grabbed her hand again.
“There's good in him…I know-I know there's still-” Padme started out before she stopped talking and the hand in your hand went limp. Your teeth clamped down on your lip as tears welled in your eyes once again and as if the two small babies in you and obi-wans arms knew, they both began to cry.
~~~~~~
Inside one of the meeting rooms of Building in Naboo. You, Obi-wan, Bail, and Yoda sat at a large table. You had your arms crossed tightly around your body as you sat next to Obi-wan, his hand rested on his chin as he stared blankly at the table in front of him.
“Hidden, safe the children must be kept.” Yoda said solemnly.
“We must take them somewhere where the sith won't sense their presence.” Obi-wan said.
Yoda hummed in thought.
“Split up, they should be.” Yoda decided.
You looked up, about to open your mouth to protest but it quickly died on your tongue. Keeping them together would give away more attention. and if one of them ends up to be force sensitive it would make matters worse.
“My wife and I will take the girl,” Basil said, “We've always talked about adopting a baby girl.” he said, a soft simile spreading on his face. “She will be loved with us.”
“And what of the boy?” you asked, yoda turned to you.
“To tatooine. His family send him.”  Yoda said.
Obi-wan was silent for a moment before he spoke.
“I will take the child and watch over him.”
You looked over in shock, slightly offended at him leaving you out.
“No,” you said sternly. All three men looked at you. “We,” you said with emphasis. “We will take the child and watch over him.” you said, avoiding Obi-wan's gaze.
Yoda just nodded.
“Until the time is right, disappear we will.” he said as you all stood up and bowed.
You walked out, only stopping for a moment when Yoda called to Obi-wan to hang back. Giving them their space you waited out in the hall, you kept your eyes on the floor until you saw Basil walk out, with baby Leia in his arms.
He walked up to you and gave you a kind smile.
“Can I?” you asked, pointing to the baby. Basil chuckled and placed the baby in your arms.
You stared into her eyes as she gurgled and cooed at you and you let out a wet laugh.
“It's disturbing how much you look like your mother already little one,” you said softly, your hand rubbing at the soft skin of her head. “You are going to a great family, but I need you to promise one thing.” you whispered to the baby, not noticing Obi-wan step out of the room.
“Be kind and intelligent like your mother,” you said, your voice getting choked up. “And be loyal and passionate like your father was.”
“And most importantly,” you whispered into her ear. “Never be apologetic for who you are, wear your flaws and strengths with pride.”
You didnt care what anyone told you, after everything you've been through with Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala, those two little kids freshly embraced by the world will always be your niece and nephew in your heart.
You kissed Leia's head before you handed her back to Bail, wiping your tears away as you looked at the senator.
“Safe travels, senator Organa.” you said softly, holding out your hand. Bail smiled and gripped your hand tight and shook it.
“You as well, Master.” he said before he turned to Obi-wan who simply shook his hand. You leaned back against the wall as Obi-wan looked at you. You didn't lean away when he raised his hand to wipe away the wetness on your cheeks,
“Why are you coming with me? You don't deserve a life like that.” he said, concern and guilt evident in his voice
“Either way Obi-wan, I'm going to be hunted,” you said bluntly. “I'm doing it for those two babies so they are safe from the empire, but i'm doing it for us too so we can be together because we deserve each other.”  you whispered hoarsely, your brows furrowed as you placed a hand on his chest. “I don't care where it takes me, I'll be okay as long as we do it together.”
Obi-wan watched you with soft eyes before he nodded.
“For them.” Obi-wan said, placing a hand over the one you rested on his chest.
You squeezed his hand tightly.
“For us.” you smiled sadly.
~~~~~~~
The heat on Tatooine was much better compared to Mustafar but it still had you sweating under your robes as you watched the sunset in front of you. The two suns give the dry earth around you a pink hue as Obi-wan gave baby Luke to Owen and Beru Lars.
You watched the younger woman gently cradle Luke as she ran over to her husband, the two of them admiring the sunset and their new family member.
Obi-wan turned to look from where you sat on the Eopie, he looked naked with the lightsaber he used for so long  no longer strapped to his side. Your hand grazed your own side and longed for your own saber as well. You and Obi-wan decided to bury your lightsabers in the sand with Anakins, a sad symbol of the end of a life you once knew.
You knew deep down a lightsaber didn't determine if you were a Jedi or not, you knew you were and Your trust in the force and the light side would guide you along the way.
Cold metal resting on your finger reminded you of a new symbol, of something new and safe as Obi-wan grabbed your hand. You smiled at the ring on his hand pressing into your wrist as you hauled him up on the large animal.
Exile did suck but knowing you were with someone you loved made the sacrifices tolerable
the extinguished star
At the fair, there were hurried shouts of sellers fighting for products, and especially tools and parts for shuttles, an unbearable price. He walked through the crowds of people, covering his overgrown face with a brown, battered hood. There was an unbearable stench in the city, which would have taken a lot of effort to endure — people stank, expired meat stank, streets and alleys stank, clothes stank, animals stank. Obi-Wan did not come here so often, it was not desirable for him to appear among the common people; recently, inquisitors have been coming here more and more often, trying so hard to destroy all the remaining Jedi. He lived the rest of his life as a poor man, pressed against stone walls, and surviving on barely earned money, watched young Luke all his free time.
Obi-Wan regretted the past, regretted that he had fallen so low that there was nowhere else to fall. It was as if he was on strings, he stopped controlling himself. Minutes turned into hours, hours into days, days into months, and months into years... More than eight years have passed since order sixty-six, and the reflections of death were still fresh in his memory. Every night he turns over on his bed, mutters short phrases, almost suffocates and no one has the right to help him. He is alone in this world, he has lost everyone.
At least, it was only for the first few years.
"Oh, Ben! How are you? Everything is fine?” Her melodious voice caused Obi-Wan's cheeks to turn a slight blush, and his lips curved in a crooked but affectionate smile. He raised his head, carefully examining you — you waved to him and smiled, squinting your eyes from the bright sun-ball, flooding everything around with a dazzling light that opened his soul. His gaze was kind, he almost didn't listen to you while you mumbled something about work and a younger brother who likes to make himself, in secret, a Jedi.
Obi-Wan couldn't imagine how you coped with all this — how you managed to feed your family alone, working in the same place as him, with this disgusting meat, pieces of which had to be stolen; how you found time for a second job and classes with your brother, caring for your sick father and mother. There are no immortals among the gods for a long time, and the war took the lives of all the Jedi. Beyond the endless mountains and deserts, forests and oceans of planets, somewhere in the distant the earth with champions of ashes faded.
For a long time he was tormented by doubts, but he was no longer a Jedi, he did not need the tarnished Power, he could only observe, be someone who does not live, but exists. He was afraid of making mistakes and any oversight. Deceiving himself only visually, he was grieving deep down — the whole life on Tatooine, rejections of the Force, was just a mask, just a farce. Obi-Wan was not afraid of death, was not afraid of hunger, he was trained as a Jedi, but he was afraid to fall in love.
He is a child of ruins, he did not receive awards and recognition, no one needed an old Jedi, devoid of power and gift, who forgot about honor and morality, living somewhere in the lost dunes. His whole life was painted from his birthday to his death, his plans did not include falling in love... Obi-Wan stared at you, smiling warmly; he will never be able to admit his little made-up passion, you will definitely not accept him. Perhaps you'll just grin without even paying attention to it, and Obi-Wan will understand you: who needs a Jedi confused in himself? Sometimes he wanted to give you all the stars, bring them to your feet and just thank you
Someday his wings will rise, becoming outstretched from tiny ones, but now he will just watch over you, guard you. Emotions were lost, loneliness seemed like a gift, attracted moths with its beauty; Obi-Wan lied to himself with an oath, repeated to himself endless thousands of hours that he was guarding young Skywalker, as he promised, but it was not real. The unbearable cross was carried out for the Jedi and everyone laughed at it, everyone hated them.
His sun had long since gone out.
Obi-Wan didn't expect his heart to beat faster at the sight of you.
and so, yes, i finished watching the two episodes that came out and i want to say that everything was as i imagined. unpopular opinion: i really liked the first episode with its melancholy and calmness, which reflects the state of obi-wan, but the second episode was bad. i think this series is better than the last three episodes, but worse than the mandalorian. (but obi-wan is of course just fine here, ewan coped with the role very well). what do you think?
i also ask you to forgive that it's not quite yandere here, i wanted to write something light. i want to write a small work on this series, is it worth it? i just have some good idea.
Ok I read this prompt
 “you say this every time and i’m starting to realize that you never mean it.”
And immediately thought of obi wan constantly saying he'll leave the order but never does
🙃
OHHH sam u are giving me good stuff tonight
It had started out as a soft morning.
The sun hung low in the sky, golden rays splitting through the thin curtains in Obi-Wan's quarters and casting it in a golden glow. He was splayed out beside you; he was flipped on his stomach, ivory skin littered with light pink battle scars and bright red scratches courtesy of the previous night's activities. It was mornings like these that you held so dearly. It just you and him, devoid of the worries of the outside world. The Jedi code didn't apply between the four walls of the bedroom. You could just exist.
"Good morning, my love," Obi-Wan's voice was gruff with sleep. He rolled onto to his side and reached an arm out to you.
"Morning," you softly smiled. "What time is your meeting today?"
"Mm.." he hummed, trailing off for a second. "Midday, I think."
"We have time then," you replied, pressing a kiss to his jaw.
The days that neither of you were busy were the best ones. It felt like there were weeks when you were both running around like mad people, barely having a second to spare for each other. That was just the reality of dating as a Jedi: it had to be secret. That meant there were far and few opportunities to actually be together physically. You and Obi had always spoken about leaving the Order to be together - had he said the words, you could be ready and packed in minutes to skip off into the sunset.
"Not much though, I'm afraid," the Jedi sighed. "I have training at nine and then a briefing at eleven-"
"- I thought you said you were free all morning?"
"I did, but there's only so much I can do, my love," Obi-Wan explained. "You understand, don't you? Our jobs are a lot and I'm sorry I can't make as much time for you as I'd like."
You gave him a small smile. "It's fine."
A pair of broad hands found their way to your waist; Obi yanked you into his lap, fingers coming up to hold the back of your neck as he pulled you into a deep kiss.
"One day, I'll leave the Order," he murmured against you. "Then I'll have all the time in the world."
You pulled back from the kiss, brow furrowing. "Do you mean that?"
"What? Of course I do."
"I know, but..." you paused for a second, gathering your thoughts. "You say this every time but I'm starting to realise you never mean it."
"How can you say that? You know I mean it-"
"- do you, though?" you cut him off. "Because I've had my bags packed ready and waiting for the better part of two years. I know it's easier said than done but if you can't even make time for me right now, how can I ever expect you to actually leave the Order for me?"
Reaching across the bed for your tunic, you pulled it over your shoulders and hopped off his lap. It hurt to think about what you'd just realised, and even more so to actually verbalise it. Still though, it had been brewing under the surface for a while and those frustrations had to come out eventually.
"Where is this coming from?" Obi-Wan asked. His blue eyes followed you across the room as you scooped up all of your clothes. "You know I love you. I'd do anything for you."
"Okay," you paused for a second and threw the items back to the floor. "Answer me now, wholly and honestly - would you leave the Order for me? And I don't mean in a hypothetical sense. I mean in a genuine, fuck this and run away sense. A leave it all behind sense."
He faltered for a second. That was all you needed.
"Yeah," you murmured. "That's what I thought."
If you have made it this far, I appreciate you sticking with it. Thank you all for any support that you give and happy reading.
--------------------
Emily had cleaned her whole apartment, sterilized everything, and had thrown away Obi-Wan's torn and bloody tunic.
She placed his boots next to her tea table, folded his pants, belt and gathered his lightsaber, placing them on one of the sitting chairs in her living room
It was late; by her recollection, it had to have been at least a half hour after midnight. She was exhausted and emotionally drained. The dull throb in her head seemed to match the pain in her soul.
The 7 P.M sparring session felt like it was a lifetime ago but it had been only hours since the incident.
She had checked on Obi and he was sleeping soundly. He didn’t have a fever anymore and she had used the Force to again assess his injuries. His nose was almost completely healed and his insides were improving. Thank the Maker for Bacta.
Emily had changed her clothes when she had stopped by her room. She changed into her clean black sparring pants and a white short-sleeved top and laid down on the couch in the darkness of her apartment; the only light that came in came from the floor-to-ceiling windows that brought the chaotic, outside world of Coruscant inside in her sanctuary.
The fight that happened earlier in the evening seemed like forever ago...but the ache in her heart was as strong as it was the minute Sorv had entered the Arena and challenged Obi. Rolling over, she buried her face in the pillow and pulled her blanket up over her head, creating a cocoon of safety. She wanted to kick down the door of her bedroom and run to him. To throw her arms around him and break down all over again. To be completely vulnerable with her person was something she needed right now, even if she was royally pissed at her person.
She was so happy that he was alive and going to be okay. Yet, She also wanted to scream at him and tell him what an inconsiderate jerk he had been. Additionally, he acted like a complete macho, overprotective, stubborn male peacock who needed to strut his stuff to prove a point.
Attempting to sort through her emotions and control them (like a good Jedi) she allowed her mind to wander as she rolled back over and stared at the scenery outside of her wall of glass. The lights twinkled on the buildings and spreaders raced in all directions; it was truly the planet that never slept.
“Maybe he was right. Maybe Jedi aren’t supposed to have personal relationships. It’s not like we have training with how to handle ourselves with our own emotions....let alone other people's emotions.”
She drifted off to sleep as her stomach twisted itself in knots.
----------------
Emily could feel distress around her. It was bearing down on her as if it was trying to suffocate and swallow her. She had become hot and sweating. Restless from tossing and turning, as if she was trying to fight whatever was bearing down on her; It was as if her body was trying to burn itself from the inside out.
The feeling of sweating and burning woke her up, causing her to sit upright and gasping for air, fighting the suffocation.  For as hot as she had been in the dream, when she woke up, the apartment air was cool and the mood peaceful. Assessing herself, she wasn’t even warm or that sweaty... nothing like what she felt while asleep. She looked around confused.
Her t-shirt and pants were dry, with no sweat or liquid present.
She extended herself through the Force, still confused. Had it just been a dream or a vision?
No, the source of heat and stress was coming from the apartment; that was shown to her through the Force. She could feel the pull of heat and an oppressive weight centering around her.
She tried to follow its weight to the source, her eyes darting around her quiet apartment. When her eyes landed on her bedroom door, it felt as if her head were on fire.
“OBI-WAN!” She gasped in a panic.
She vaulted off the couch and sprinted the short distance into her room, practically breaking the door open with the speed and weight she hit it with.
She burst into the doorway and found him in a pool of sweat and fidgeting in his sleep.
“No, no, no, no, no, I thought we were past this!” She hissed as she ran to him and ripped the covers off of him.
Turning, she ran out of the room to her refresher and grabbed two big towels and a small one. She turned on the faucets and soaked them in cold water. Emily ran back to her and placed the cold towels along his body.
She laid the compress on his forehead, dabbing at the sweat, and then sprinted to the galley-style kitchen to grab some ice and more towels.
Making two makeshift ice packs, she placed one on top of the forehead compress and the other by his side, the two main sources of heat.
She was already tired and worn out and didn’t know how much use she was going to be so the ice and cold compresses would help her bring down his fever naturally, buying her more time and wiggle room.
Kneeling, she placed her hands on his chest and stomach and started commanding the Force to flow through her.
She visualized everything she loved about him. His smile, those amazing blue eyes that gleamed like the oceans on Naboo, his wit and his corny jokes...how he was always a gentleman; usually so full of care, love and gentleness. The way he silently cared so much about his friends. What a great Jedi he was; centered, balanced, and brave.
Oh, how much she loved him; If love was tangible. She visualized the fever being cooled from his body, visualized her mending his muscles and tissue, healing him.
She had sat there and commanded continuous use of the Force for hours and hours. She would not give up on him despite how she felt about him at the moment. She had loved him her whole life, she would die trying to save him if she had to.
Emily felt like she was losing her grasp on reality. She had never healed someone for this extended amount of time. She was becoming woozy and she felt like her energy was draining itself from her body.
 She was unaware of his state as her head slumped forward and she passed out.
The sunlight was coming through the blinds as it peaked into the bedroom apartment.
Emily had passed out on the floor, her head still resting on the side of the bed, hands still on his stomach and chest. The cold, wet towels had pruned her skin and made her shiver.
There was a faint beeping noise that was bothering her, causing her to wake up.
It wasn’t coming from the bedroom, it sounded from somewhere else in the apartment.
She was too tired to move. Maybe if she ignored it would stop? Then she could just go back to sleep.
After two minutes of continuous buzzing and beeping she begrudgingly got up and stumbled into her living room.
The sound was coming from Obi-Wan’s pants.
She sleepily fumbled with them until she found a comlink in his pants pocket.
“Master Kenobi’s Comlink.” She said groggily.
“Who is this?” The voice on the other end sounded.... hostile... accusing and even a bit...stunned... as if they weren’t expecting her to answer; which in fairness to them, they weren't.
Their tone caused her to become more alert.
“Who is this? You called this line?” She didn’t want to give anything away that she didn’t have to.
“This is Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, his mission partner... Now I ask again, who are you?”
She relaxed.
“Hi Anakin, sorry for the guessing games, it’s Master Marblu.”
There was a pause; he didn’t answer right away.
“Hi, Emily.” He sounded lighter, more smug sounding. She pictured that stupid, self-satisfied smile she was probably wearing.
“Is Obi-Wan there? He was supposed to meet us at the hangar for a mission this morning, and he’s late….very late. Considering he's never late for anything, I knew something had to be up.”
Someone was giggling in the background…Emily listened harder...yes it was definitely a girl giggling.
“I don’t think he’s gonna make it to the mission today, Anakin. He was in an accident last night in the Arena. We were sparring and he did something stupid and he’s pretty injured. He’s sleeping right now and he couldn’t move if he wanted to.”
“Is he alright?!” Anakin's tone had changed quickly from amusement to worry.
“He is fine now. He was worse last night. Like I said, he’s sleeping and his injuries are healing for the most part. I patched him up last night, I have a med kit in my apartment. Are you able to do the mission without him? I could step in if you need me to.”
She didn’t want them to worry about him if she could get him on the mend and keep him there. She additionally didn’t want to leave him alone in her apartment in that condition, but she didn’t want his team stranded either. Maybe Xira could babysit him while she was gone if she had to?
“No, that's okay Emily, but thank you. You just take care of him for us while we’re gone. We’ll be back tomorrow afternoon and we’ll check in on him. Keep me posted if you need anything, I’m always here.”
“Thanks Anakin. I’ll keep you posted and he’s in good hands, I promise I’ll take good care of him.”
“Well now, don’t take care of him too well if you know what I mean, he’ll become spoiled.”
Now he and the female voice were laughing. What were they insinuating?
“Bye Anakin and Ashoka.” She spoke in a sing-song, teasing tone. She had a hunch of what they were getting at despite them supposedly being in the dark.
“Bye Emily.” He teased her back.
The comlink disconnected.
Well there was no going back to sleep after that, she was awake now for sure.
She noticed that the chronometer in the bedroom read 8:30 A.M. as she took the towels off of him and put them in the hamper in the refresher. His bandages would need to be changed again but she didn’t want to wake him up just for that yet, it could wait a while longer.
She made herself a cup of cinnamon tea but kept the pot boiling; he’d be awake soon and knew how he'd love a cup.
She had a blend that she had gotten from another healer in the Medical Wing that was specifically designed to help speed up the healing process as it was loaded with special vitamins and herbs.
She was sitting on her couch reading the morning news on her datapad when she heard the bed shift and squeak in her room.
“He would try to get up by himself.” She huffed irritatedly, rising to her feet.
“Nope; lay back down.” She commanded as she briskly walked back into her room.
He ignored her.
She placed her hands on his shoulders and gingerly forced him back on the pillows.
“There’s nothing you need that I can’t get for you.” She told him, sitting down on the side of the bed as she helped him settle himself.
He made a grumpy "hmph" sound as he fumbled with the covers.
“How are you feeling?” She asked, touching his forehead. His skin felt the coolest it had since the event.
She took his face in her hands and titled it slightly in different directions to examine his nose. “Your nose has healed and isn’t broken anymore, so that’s good.”
He sighed as he surrendered to her fussing.
“I’m fine, I just wanted to get up and stretch... you don’t have to help me. I don’t want to inconvenience you.”
“No, you need to stay put.”
He put his head back on the pillow and huffed in annoyance again. If she hadn't been so angry with him from the night before, she would be amused with all the huffing he was doing. Like an annoyed Bantha calf who was being smothered by his mother.
His groggy voice brought her out of her daydream of a little Bantha calf taking a temper tantrum. “What was the horrid beeping noise this morning?”
As soon as he asked the question, a wave of recognition washed over him causing him to jolt forward and grab her hand despite the dull ache of pain in his side.
“THE COMLINK! I’M LATE FOR A MISSION!”  He tried to use her as leverage to get out of the bed but she stopped him.
“Easy killer, easy. They already called looking for you and I sent them off without you, you need your rest, plus you couldn’t go in this condition if you wanted to.”
He formed the same irritated expression that was on his face during their fight last night.
“You answered my comlink? What was your excuse for having it? Where was I? What did you tell them? And that wasn't your call to make...”
“Slow down and calm down. First off, I told Anakin that you were hurt because you did something very stupid in the Arena last night, which you did, and that you were too injured to show up today. I told him I had to take you back to my apartment to heal you and I was letting you sleep. And guess what, like the independent, big boy he is,  Anakin wished you well and went on his mission with Ahsoka and the troops. I told him enough of the truth and surprisingly well it works well...when people listen.” She smiled a sarcastic smile.
He rolled his eyes and looked away from her. “He has a big mouth, he probably found it amusing that you answered and now he won’t be able to keep his mouth shut about it; fantastic.”
“Mmmmm I disagree. He was amused, that’s for sure but I think you're making a bigger deal out of it than he did. Nothing incriminating happened last night, for once, and we can honestly abide by that story if we have to. Someone’s bound to notice the damage in the Arena and the trail of blood that you dripped from the Arena to my apartment. ” She folded her arms across her chest.
He shook his head and chose to move on and drop it. He was tired, sore, and still angry about the previous evening. Yet, one fight with Emily was enough for a lifetime, never mind two in less than 24 hours. As angry as he was, he didn't want to fight with her again if he could help it.
His hands felt the sheets on the bed that were still cold and wet.
Changing the subject, she scoffed at the annoyance of damp, cold sheets. “Why is the bed all wet and cold?”
“You were running a very high fever at various points in the night. I grabbed a bunch of towels and ice packs and threw them on you... I sat down to heal you and further bring it down too. Last I remember it was about 4 in the morning and I was blacking out from exhaustion.”
There was no emotion in her words. They were blank and matter-of-fact. Like he was just another patient again. She had kept up that demeanor since last night. Obi-Wan knew what she was doing; she was detaching herself from her emotions to not fight with him either.
His eyes snapped to hers, “You had to heal me again?….." His mind started racing as he was now fully processing her words. You were able to hold out for that long after everything that happened last night? For almost two hours?” Unlike her, his expression and voice was full of emotion as he was starting to understand what it means when someone loves you.
“Yup.” Short, sweet, and to the point was still her preferred method of speaking to him.
Before he could say anything else she got up from the bed. “I want you to drink a cup of tea, it's a special health blend from a friend who’s a healer and will help you get better quicker, so no arguments. We can't have you hanging around in this bed forever." She spoke to him from over her shoulder as she left the room.
Leaning back against his pillow, he let out a long deep breath and blinked rapidly; he was misty-eyed. That’s three times now in 24 hours she saved his life or sacrificed herself or her well-being for him.
While he was still being a total jerk....an ass....completely terrible to her. Even though he could tell that she was insanely angry at him, she had done everything to save his life. He knew she still felt this way, if he extended himself, he could feel it in their bond and her in her Force signature.
“Because that’s what you do when you love someone you fool. You stand by them and take care of them through thick and thin....even when they do not deserve it." He stared at the ceiling.
Alright, enough now Kenobi. Be a man, when she comes back you need to use your words. You are always preaching to Anakin about patience, humility, and using your words. It's time to listen to your own teachings matter how difficult it is." ” He spoke to himself, self-loathing brimming. However, this new experience did give him a new perspective on Anakin's Padawan years.
Emily came back shortly after his thoughts had settled with a steaming mug of the ruby-colored tea. “Drink.” She commanded as she handed it to him.
Normally, he liked tea and this one was very pleasing. Fruity, with a hint of spice; very flavorful. He took two large sips and could feel the warmness spreading through his body. It tingled as it flowed through him.
He closed his eyes, relishing in the relief it brought.
“Wow, this stuff really works...I can feel it going through me, and I've only had two sips...”
“Keep going; finish the whole thing.” It was a pointed order from her.
He wanted to talk to her instead of focusing on the tea, that was more important to him. But if he knew her, she wouldn’t let him do anything until the cup was finished.
He took the rest of it in large gulps that burned his throat, but he didn’t care.
He placed the mug on her bedside table. Rising slightly and shifting his position to be more at eye level with her, he took her hands in his.
His touch caught her by surprise; and threatened to make her crack; allowing all the emotions she had been holding back to burst. She was still angry at him, figuring her curtness had communicated that. She had stuffed all of her emotions down and was being a “good Jedi.”
That is until he touched her and he looked at her with those eyes that made her heart stop beating, reminding her of a calm ocean after a rocky storm.
She tried to pull away from him, but he put up a gentle resistance, keeping her in place.
“Please. Don’t run from me.” Obi-Wan whispered to her. His glossy blue eyes looked at her seriously.
She could see the sadness in them and could feel it in his Force signature. His voice was soft and quiet as if he was afraid to use it.
“What is it? I'm sure whatever it is, it can wait, you need your rest.” Her voice was raspy and throaty. She shifted her eyes to his hands, if she looked at his face instead with those beautiful eyes, she was going to become emotional again and she was tired of crying. The rollercoaster of emotions had taken its toll on her.
Yet Obi-wan held fast. He moved so that he held both her hands in one of his, and used his other hand to lift her chin, ever so gently, so that their eyes met. “I owe you the biggest apology. Emily…you saved my life three times yesterday, and if you hadn’t done it the first time, then you wouldn’t have been able to do it the other two times. I was able to have that fight with you because you saved my life, and I chose to take the path of frustration, arrogance, and anger in the moments when I should have been thanking you and telling you how grateful I am to you; because I am grateful. I am so incredibly grateful...Throughout his childhood, I was always there for Anakin, but no one was there for me in that way....he was like Padawan, kid brother and son all mixed into one. I didn't know someone could love me that deeply to you...My Darling; sometimes I can't believe that someone loves me enough, let alone that you are that someone...that you love me enough to fight back for me like that, to push yourself to your brink more than once, for me.”
Her lip started to quiver.
"I love you more than anything...but please, you have to understand why I am so angry with you....even if I shouldn't be. Please tell me you understand how you have not made yourself a target of that sick and vile human....the thought of him makes my skin crawl and my blood boil...I almost can't bear it..."
His eyes bore into hers as he gripped her hands tighter. "why Em? Why did you do that? He's going to harass and toy with you every opportunity he gets... His focus was on me and I was trying to keep it there..."
Emily’s eyes were watering.  “......He was hurting you….” The tears started falling rapidly as her breath came out erratic gasps.
That was it. It sounded so basic, so simple; but it was no less true. She would never let anyone hurt him if she could help it. It didn't matter that it was someone who was once a friend and fellow Jedi, but had now become a borderline vindictive and manipulative psychopath.
Obi-Wan softened. He couldn't stand to see her cry, and she had been doing so much of that lately.
 Leaning forward, he used his thumb to wipe away every tear that fell from her warm and gentle chocolate eyes.
As she attempted to control her breathing, He gave her that half-smile he was famous for.
 “It seems as if someone is as protective of me as I am of them.”
They chuckled together while he now held her face in his hands. His thumbs continued to dry her tears...the lightsaber-worn pads of his thumbs rubbed themselves soothingly into her skin.
“Emily, the thought of leaving you alone in life makes me worried sick. If I had died, my last thoughts would have been about you. How much I love you and how sick with regret and worry I would be that now I can’t be there for you, that you would have been at his mercy in that moment ... I know what I did was wrong, I should have listened to you and denied his challenge.....Yet I don’t regret fighting him, he needs to be stopped and I wanted it to be me who did it. I’m sorry, I’m still angry about what happened. I don’t like what you did. Just as you had to witness your fears last night, one of mine is not being able to protect you; it’s who I am and I won't apologize for it. Now that you stepped in, you technically have to fight him to finish the challenge. He’s not going to forget about that.”
“I’m still upset too. If you hadn’t accepted then none of this would have happened. I told you to just walk away, and everything would have been fine. I understand why you’re upset, that you don’t want me to fight him because he’s unstable, but I couldn’t let him hurt you, I just couldn't, I snapped. I’m sorry, I was scared and angry. Then when you started yelling at me, between what Sorv did, Mual's visions, and what I saw during the fight, I just lashed out at you in anger, I said things I shouldn’t have and I’m sorry.”
She removed his hands from her face and held them.
Obi-Wan returned the jester, holding her hands lovingly. “Then let's agree to disagree because we aren’t going to get anywhere; we were both right and we were both wrong it sounds like. We had our reasons for the way we reacted. To be perfectly honest, I can’t fight with you. It hurts me too much and it’s a waste of time because it’s not going to solve or change anything. Not only that, we’re allowing him to come between us, and I won’t allow that, not him. If we’re going to fight then let it be about something better than him. I’m sorry I was horrible and rude. Thank you so much for being there for me. My Dear, I love you. If this situation comes up again, I pray I’m around. I’ll let you do what you feel you have to do when the time comes because I do know you can handle yourself, but I will step in and end it if I have to; I’m done with his games.”
She leaned forward and gently hugged him, mindful of his side. Her head was buried in the crook of his neck. He wrapped his arms around her and leaned back so that they were resting on the pillows.
“Obi-Wan there isn’t anything you can’t protect me from. You’ve never failed me. The reason you failed last night was because you fought fair and he didn’t. You aren't a monster like he is and I don’t know if you ever could be, but that’s why I love you and not him. I don’t want you to be a monster. Yes, I agree. We did what we did, it is what it is and we have our reasons. If he comes back looking for another round, we’ll go from there. But honestly, I don’t know if I even accept his challenge, it’s not worth it. He’s not right in his mind; I’d rather involve the council sooner rather than later.”
She couldn’t see his face, she was still buried in him. He raised his eyes to the heavens and thanked the Force she didn’t feel the need to go after Sorv. He wouldn't stop her from accepting his challenge, because that would be the double standard that they argued about, but he’d absolutely go with her to the challenge. Knowing that she would have to fight that madman made him want to turn into a monster if it meant protecting her.
He placed a loving kiss into her hair. “We’ll go from here if it ever comes up again. We seem to have an understanding. For now, let's move on. My time with you is more precious and important than to waste it arguing about him and his foul games. I love you, I will always protect you, and stand by you. Always.”
She lifted her head and kissed his lips. “Why do you get to have the big mushy lines that quell my anger and suddenly I’m in love with you all over again?” She was smiling.
“Ah, because that’s just it My Love. I’m a stupid fool who is hopelessly and uncontrollably in love with you. And unfortunately for you, My Dear, you happen to love this fool back. I mean...I’m irresistibly handsome and charming so you have no shot of resisting me and I get infinite chances at making you smile again.” He teased her.
He closed the distance and attempted to kiss her but she was laughing. He still kissed her anyway.
Emily giggled, turning into his advances, and easily found his lips.
“I don’t know about infinite chances but you might be onto something with the charming and handsome part. And you're right. I do love you back. Sometimes I’m scared at how much I love you back and maybe it’s okay that you know that.” His beard tickled her as snuggled back into him.
He held her close and rested his forehead against hers. The day had started with them being miles apart from one another even though they were under the same roof. Now, the distance was gone and their hearts were whole.
They lay there for the morning, drifting in and out of sleep, content to be next to one another.
By early afternoon she had changed his bandages. She ran to his apartment and grabbed him a new, clean tunic. They changed and dressed and went to speak to the Jedi Council.
 They gave their somewhat altered, slightly rehearsed statement of the story together, to Council. Rehearsed and altered only in the sense that they left out their argument and this morning's words of love; everything else was as exactly as it happened.
After they were dismissed, Jedi Master Sorv Deprov was escorted by two temple guards into the Jedi Council Chamber. Normally Obi-Wan sat on the council but given that he was involved in this matter, he was not allowed to sit as an active council member during Sorv’s questioning.
Master Derprov neither accepted or rebutted the charges against him as Master Windu repeated the accusations and Master Yoda questioned him for his side of the story..
 When the council spoke to him, the Jedi master in question simply just stared back at them, blankly; void of all emotion.
Luckily for Emily and Obi-Wan, their story matched up with the cracks in the Arena wall and the pool of blood on the ground, because Sorv, mysteriously, had not a scratch on him.
Given the fact that Sorv made no effort to defend himself or add any input to the story, and given his reputation for struggling with aggression, the Council unanimously ruled in Obi-Wan and Emily’s favor.
Sorv was suspended from the field until further notice, temporarily stripped of his clone regiment until his sentence was served, and was confined to the Temple and its grounds. Additionally, he had to engage in group meditation with Master Yoda three times a week to gain control of his anger and emotions.
“I accept my sentence.” Was the only thing Sorv said during his questioning, the empty stair plastered to his face. His eyes were hollow, void of emotion…Master Yoda thought that even rage would be acceptable…normal for the master even…but emptiness ... the elder Jedi found that even more concerning.
“A closer eye I will keep on him, during the meditations, I will.” Yoda thought to himself as he watched the suspicious Jedi be escorted out of the chamber.
Sicktember Day 27
Sleepless Nights
Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Fading.
“The years have made you weak.”
“I see through the lies of the Jedi.”
“I hate you!”
“You were my brother, Anakin.”
“I am what you made me.”
“Now you will suffer, Obi-Wan.”
The images of Mustafar and Mupazo swim in front of his eyes, blurred together. Maybe it’s easier knowing it wasn’t Anakin who did any of it, but his mind has yet to fully accept that.
Something touches his arm, and Obi-Wan jolts awake, instinctively jerking away from the figure hovering next to him through the darkness, because what, why is there someone here, he was –
“Obi-Wan?”
Anakin’s voice.
“Anakin?” he asks, trying to shake the sounds of screams and fire from mind, his mind rapidly trying to catch up to where he really is.
“Are you alright?”
The figment of his imagination doesn’t disappear because – right. He’s – he’s in the past. And he isn’t with Anakin, because that isn’t him even if Obi-Wan suddenly wonders from the that look of concern he can see, shining in his blue eyes, even through the darkness. Assuming he’s really in the past and this isn’t his imagination. For a moment, he could almost wonder.
Obi-Wan pushes himself up, eyeing Vader through the darkness. He’s had enough nightmares to know how to try and shake them off, and when that brilliant presence is right beside him – Anakin or not – it gives him something else to focus on faster.
It would be easier to look at him and say “Vader” if he didn’t look so… worried, and if not for earlier this afternoon when he’d strangely enough asked him the same question.
Every time he’s looked at him, all he could see was Vader, remembering everything he’d done even in the future, and it didn’t quite click until right now that… they’re not entirely the same. Not yet. Anakin may have already lost himself, but he’s he isn’t quite as far gone as Vader was in his time. At least not yet. Unless it’s just Obi-Wan trying to see what isn’t there, again.
“Why are you awake?” he asks instead.
Vader draws back a little, looking an odd mixture of uncomfortable and uncertain. “I could sense you,” he answers, quietly. He looks a little better than earlier, Obi-Wan notes idly.
Palpatine: My boy, Master Kenobi is lying to you!
Anakin: ?...yeah? He does that? Lying is Obi-Wan's favourite sport. Bant told me that he was dropped on his head by Master Qui-Gon when he was a child and Master Qui-Gon was really tall, so the fall shook loose some things in his brain and now Obi-Wan is allergic to giving straight answers. It took me 3 years to figure out his favourite colour. and his birthday. 5 to figure out that he's allergic to shellfish. I once told a restaurant that Obi-Wan can't have shrimp and he told me to "stop giving information to the enemy". I've made a game of it really.
Palpatine: *muttering under his breath* ok try using shrimp next time
Anakin: what?
Palpatine: Nothing!
Clone Wars AU where instead of chips, the clones are actually raised to be undercover as loyal soldiers knowing they'd betray the jedi ("traitors") on the order, and are all ready to complete their mission—
But uh. The jedi are really nice?? And kinda dumb??? And they reaaaally don't know how they survived this long when they are just so dumb and trusting and oh no they're attached.
There are many unfortunate realizations. The clones form a support group to rant about their stupid jetii because "—guys you don't understand he loses his lightsaber every two seconds and then smiles at me when I give it back and has decided since I have it so much I should know how to use it and this week he ordered chocolate for everyone what do I do—"
Bly be sitting in the corner, rocking because "Oh no she's hot"
Wolffe is sitting there holding in manly tears because Plo is a buir but he's a traitor but Plo is such a buir can he be my buir
Rex is like "listen I know Skywalker is supposed to be the one non-traitor of the bunch but like. He's crazy???? And the Commander is also crazy???? How am I supposed to keep up with them???? How much worse would they be without Kenobi????????? And I think Skywalker might actually murder us all if anyone touches the commander or Kenobi???????????"
And meanwhile Fox is all "I keep pulling this one weird jedi out of the dumpster and I can't get rid of him. How do I get rid of him, he's growing on me like mold and I hate it."
Meanwhile I cant decide if the Jedi know that somethings up with the clones and are keeping them close or if they just are genuinely like "man those guys are so great ❤️❤️❤️ I'd trust my life with them ❤️❤️❤️ if they don't tell me smth they def have a good reason ❤️❤️❤️"
"...but it sounds like it's crying."
Based on this and it's ANGSTY y'all
Context: The Force grants Obi-Wan his wish to undo everything that happened to the galaxy and make Anakin happy, but the price is heavy. Obi-Wan chooses to pay.
In a galaxy far, far away, Anakin Skywalker is found and trained by Qui-gon Jinn. He doesn't fall to the Dark side, he marries his angel, and there is peace in their time. But what nobody knows is that all throughout Anakin's life, he hears gentle and loving whispers in the wind, guiding him and showing him the Light. There is always a protective touch on his back, and glimpses of sad but proud eyes in his periphery. Sometimes, he wakes from his dreams with tears in his eyes, a terrible melancholy that is not his own settling in his chest.
He wishes he knows the name of the being in the Force, but nobody can give him an answer. How can they, when the name Obi-Wan Kenobi doesn't exist?
do not avenge me. — ANAKIN SKYWALKER
Tumblr media
summary: when he held your dying body in his arms, you begged him of one thing, do not avenge me.
warnings: major character death, angst, (kind of) secret relationship coming out..haha
pairings: Anakin Skywalker x Gn!Reader
drabble ... MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
You felt it coming, you felt his presence. It was dark, he was gone too far.
Maybe if you payed more attention to your own safety rather than Anakin's you wouldn't be on the floor, your head resting in the lap of your husband, tears streaming down your cheeks. God, why were you crying? You were not supposed to be weak.
Your attempt to move only prompted another cry from you, Anakin held you tightly, and his words barely reached you, He was yelling, but the words were distant and fragmented. He was crying, and you desperately wished he wouldn't.
"Stop crying, I'm okay-" you managed to whisper, but it only led him to hush you gently. His voice, despite the pain, was a nice sound, his voice made the pain go away, but you felt it, you were weak but his darkness was not. He felt cold, you felt the anger, the fear he's going to cause in the galaxy. You needed to get up, to reassure him that you were fine, but you couldn't, the pain persisted, relentless, excruciating. god did it hurt.
You turned your head to Obi-Wan, who had a knowing expression. The look he gave you spoke volumes, telling you what you already feared. You were fading away, you're dying.
Turning back to Anakin, you saw tears still streaming down his face. His hand slipped under your back, drawing you closer to his chest, his sobs growing louder, and you realized you couldn't escape the deafening sound. No, it wasn't leaving; it was intensifying, and it felt like it would never end.
"Ani," you choked, "Promise me, do not…" The pain was overwhelming, making it difficult to speak. "Do not avenge me."
There was no verbal response, just a gut-wrenching cry and his hand gripping yours even tighter. You continued, your voice weak, "You are good. Do not let me—don't let take that away from you."
Perhaps that was the moment he truly understood. You knew you were slipping away, but the transition was painless. What hurt more was hearing the distant screams of Anakin, his desperate pleas as you left your Anakin behind, forever.
“We’re Not Promised Tomorrow” Chapter 8 “The View”
Tumblr media
Masterlist       Chapter 7       (Photo not mine found on Google)
Pairing: Obi-Wan x Female OC
Word Count: 6.2 K
Warnings: Two fools in love who can’t admit their feelings is one of the best tropes and I will die on this hill. Angst. Anxiety, intense feelings, crying, revelations, and promises.
A/N: I am back! Hoping to update more often but life is busy right now. That being said, I love these two. This story is going to be a slow burn, like real slow, but it's worth it.
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
The rest of the evening went by quietly and smoothly. At the end of the evening, Padme announced that she would be addressing The Galactic Senate the next morning about the supply line issues. She thanked the Jedi representatives for taking the time away from the war to come and rally for the cause on her behalf. The room was filled with cheers and applause as she gestured towards the four Jedi, all of whom bashfully nodded, except Anakin who smiled boldly and winked at Padme.
Loitering about and taking their time, the four Jedi were amongst the last to leave. Obi-Wan noticed that before they had left, Anakin seemed to whisper something to Padme that had made her smile. He tried not to read too much into it. He was just probably reassuring her about the evening; she had said that she was nervous and hoped the other senators would keep their word in helping to support the bill.
The ride back to the Temple was quiet, with the four friends not saying much to each other. They took the last shuttle back from the Senate district for the evening. Obi-Wan had offered his seat to Emily as there were only three seats available when they boarded the shuttle. During the ride back, like a tiny youngling, Ashoka ended up resting her head on her master's shoulder and fell asleep, clearly comfortable enough in her bond with her Master to do so. Anakin and Obi-Wan exchanged a knowing look laced with smiles when they saw this. Most masters would have scolded the young one for doing something like that, let alone in public, but not now, and certainly not Anakin (Obi-Wan had a growing soft spot for the Tagruta).
Ashoka had been through a lot recently. She was a Padawan in an unprecedented time. Always in a war zone, risking her life while learning, growing, and leading others. Additionally, Anakin had drilled her hard that day in the Arena, and then she had spent the evening campaigning to help the senators secure safer, more efficient supply lines. She deserved to rest her head on her Master’s shoulder and find some momentary peace.
When the shuttle arrived at the Temple, Anakin gently nudged her awake. Ahsoka begrudgingly woke up. Looking around sleepily, she realized what had happened. She gasped as she looked at the three older Jedi.
“Oh my gosh, Master I am so sorry! I didn’t mean to fall asleep on you like that, I am so sorry, I don’t know what came over me when I sat….” Ashoka’s rambling was shooshed by Anakin.
“It’s okay, Snips. It’s been a long day. It happens to the best of us.” He told her as he extended his hand to help her up.
The group of Jedi exited the shuttle and stood on the landing platform.
“I'm sorry Master Kenobi, Master Marblu.” Ashoka sheepishly apologized to them for her lack of decorum.
“Think nothing of it, Ashoka, your secret's safe with us,” Emily replied, placing a gentle hand on the young girl's shoulder, a friendly smile on her face.
“It’s quite alright young Padawan; we’ve all been through a lot lately,” Obi-Wan said to her. Even he couldn’t help but give her a friendly smile. She was a good kid after all.
All this use of emotion was going to be a problem once they all returned to the field. The word “attachments” just played over and over in Obi-Wan’s mind like a bright red, blinking light that was full of forewarning and foreshadowing; reminding her of everything he shouldn’t be doing.
“Come on Snips, I’ll walk you back.” Anakin said to Ashoka, nodding his head in the general direction of the Jedi apartments.
While Obi-Wan’s apartment was high up and out of the way from everyone else's, Anakin and Ashoka lived only one floor apart from each other, so it made sense for them to return together. Plus the two had a teasing hunch that they should leave the two “friends” alone.
Master and Palawan departed from the landing platform, exchanging thank you and “good nights” to everyone. As they walked away, they could be heard conversing cheerfully with one another.
This left Obi-Wan and Emily alone again.
Things had not improved from the last time they had been alone. Emily still felt betrayed that she knew that Obi-Wan had lied to her. Obi-Wan knew he had royally messed up. He knew she could tell he was lying.
But how could he tell her the truth? That would open up too many questions that couldn’t be answered. If they were answered, then the answers could ruin everything.
The two just stood next to each other, not making eye contact or speaking, just enduring an icy, awkward silence.
“Are you headed back to your quarters or are you going somewhere else?” Obi-Wan asked as he finally got up the courage to say something to her.
Emily sighed. “No, it’s late and I am helping Master Yoda demonstrate beginner healing techniques to the younglings tomorrow morning. So, it’s an early night for me.”
Her talents as a healer had been in such demand lately with the war going on; those skills were arguably more in demand at the moment than her skills as a Jedi Knight were. Additionally, she found the work of a healer more fulfilling at the moment. Hunting down Sith Lords, negotiating peace treaties, and slicing battle droids in half was all well and good; but healing had a greater meaning for her. She felt more purposeful and useful. She had the ability to really help someone. Or, if they weren’t going to make it, then she could make their final moments peaceful enough so they did not die shrieking in pain.
Obi-Wan shuffled on the balls of his feet anxiously.
“Ah well then yes, you definitely want to be on time for that. Master Yoda hates when people are late. I always feel like a youngling whenever he reprimands me and I’m a grown man.” Obi-Wan chuckled in a self-deprecating.
He desperately wanted to make her laugh. If she laughed, then everything was okay between them; because it was no secret that Emily loved to laugh. Additionally, Obi-Wan knew she loved to laugh at his bad jokes. She was probably the only person who did him the honor of laughing at them. Anakin was his best friend and even he didn’t laugh at them.
She wanted to laugh, she really did, but she couldn’t. Her mind was still racing. She felt like there was a divide between them that had never existed before; as if he were across a galaxy even though he was right next to her. She considered their relationship to be above lying, especially after everything they had been through together. Was there really something that they couldn’t tell each other? To not be able to trust each other with something? She would never laugh at him in a cruel way or betray him, she cared too much for that.
She still hadn’t laughed or even so much as chuckled, he thought to himself. Obi-Wan was actually starting to get worried. She had not said a word to him since the balcony.
“Actually now that I think about it, she hasn’t even looked at me directly since then either.”  Yup. He was panicking now.
Surely she wouldn’t turn this into a grudge? After everything, they had been through?
“May I walk you back to your quarters?”  He gestured formally with his arm toward the apartment buildings as he stammered his way through his way through his sentence.
Obi-Wan was sweating and doing his best not to let his fear and anxiety control him; that he had ruined a practically lifelong friendship in one night couldn’t be true.
“If you’d like.” She said flatly.
Obi-Wan stifled his bewildered expression. “What is that supposed to mean?!? “If I’d like?” Of course, I would like to! I’ve been walking her back to her room if we were out late at night since she was 12, BEFORE WE WERE EVEN PADAWANS! Why would tonight be any different?”
Obi-Wan was practically screaming on the inside but his outward expression had remained neutral and blank.
“After you.” He replied to her, holding the door to the Temple open.
Obi-Wan tried to strike up several different casual conversations on the way up to her apartment, but Emily just wasn’t in a talkative mood.
She didn’t want to be so sour with him, but she couldn’t help it, despite her wrestling with her emotions and fighting for control. For her, It was more of the fact that he lied to her face and expected her to just accept it, that was what she was angry about. Insulted almost. If he was lying about this had he lied about other things in their relationship and she just never noticed?
“Wait.” She thought to herself, “I just said relationship….NO EM! Not relationship, friendship. You’re just friends, you know it and he knows it. Always have been, always will be. Nothing more.” She scolded herself.
They reached her door and she still hadn’t said much to him other than the occasional “yes” or “no”.
While she was hurt, he was still very important to her. He didn’t seem to be bothered by his actions, and she knew he was a good person, he was Obi-Wan after all.
Maybe it was no big deal and she was just making it one, letting her silly emotions play with her. Obi-Wan was her closest and oldest friend.
“See, this is why Jedi do not have attachments.” She reminded herself.
Looking up at her him, she kept her voice neutral. “Well Master Kenobi, thank you very much for escorting me to my quarters. Additionally, thank you for the invitation to Senator Amadalla’s this evening; I am glad that I could be of help to my people. Please extend my thank you to the Senator, Ashoka, and Anakin as well for me. I had a very nice time. I’m sure I will be seeing you around the Temple soon. Enjoy the rest of your evening.”
She gave him no time to answer. She bowed courteously, her final gesture of thanks, and she entered her apartment, leaving him alone in the hallway.
He stared dumbfoundedly at the closed door.
“MASTER KENOBI!?! She only calls me that when she's kidding around with me and she was not kidding around with me there. AND WHAT DOES YOU MEAN THANK YOU FOR THE ESCORT! AGAIN, WHEN DO I NOT WALK YOU TO YOUR ROOM?!?!”
He wanted to smash his fist into the wall as he huffed in frustration. Just like that, she was gone. She hadn’t even allowed him to say anything, not even a good night. Now he was standing in front of her apartment, the door in his face.
And how was he supposed to argue or object to a closed-door?! He couldn’t believe this was happening. How had so much gone so wrong, so quickly?
He was still in front of her door. His emotions were making his head spin. How embarrassing if someone saw him, he thought to himself.
He started pacing. Half of him wanted to punch the wall in frustration and the other wanted to bang on the door of her apartment in desperation until she answered, and when she did, he wanted to tell her everything.
What if he did lose her over this lie? The thought of facing a day where she was not a part of his world in some way made his whole body feel like someone had injected beskar into his veins.
He was frustrated. He needed to meditate, clear his mind and detach. If he didn’t he was going to explode. But he didn’t want to walk away from her door without talking to her.
He felt that if he did, it might have damaging consequences forever. Catching himself, he felt that thought was an extreme one, but it was a feeling in the pit of his stomach. As if the Force was telling him something. But what was he supposed to do? She had made the choice for him and shut him out, literally. On the other side of her door.
Meditation. He just needed to walk away, stuff his emotions down and meditate.
- - - - - - - - - - - - -
Emily sank into her couch and huffed out a shaky breath. She wanted to crawl into her cushions and stay there. Forever.
Why had she felt so betrayed by his actions? Why was she spiraling out of control and getting lost in her head, further ahead than what was happening in reality?
What she found even worse is as opposed to trying to say something about it the whole way back, Obi-Wan had talked about everything but the fact that he lied to her. As if it was no big deal at all or that it even happened.
Tipping her head back, she stared at the ceiling and closed her eyes.
Her emotions weighed in her chest like someone was suffocating her. It was as if she didn’t know he was capable of acting like that or at least treating her like that.
A sense of trust and commitment was an important aspect of their relationship. Emily knew she was a sentimental persona, as well as being very in tune with her emotions and connection to the Force. Having the only life she had ever known be at the Temple meant that Obi was the next thing she had to family. That person who was more than a friend.
Was that the point of all of this emotional turmoil? That to him, this wasn’t a big deal and yet she was making it one? Or was that she was figuring out and remembering what all these emotions really meant, the reasons why she had stopped seeing him in the past?
“But again Emily you stupid, stupid woman, what did he do to you?!? It’s not like he pushed you off the balcony or humiliated you in front of a room full of people. You’ve been spending too much time with Sorv and his possessiveness is rubbing off on you. Not every detail of his life is your business. If he did not want to share something with you, he is by no means obligated to do so and it doesn’t matter if you don’t like it. You would expect him to respect your wishes and not pry if you were in his shoes.”
And yet, the feeling of betrayal and rejection stung like ice as attempted to shut down her emotions.
She sat there curled up in a ball. Tears brimming in her eyes. By trying to shut her emotions off, she had started to cycle through them; betrayed, insulted, and hurt were the emotions that she kept cycling through.
She decided she would allow herself to have this pity party for the remainder of the evening and that was it. After that, it would be time to move on. This is not how Jedi behaved. She had been friends with him for years and she was not about to throw that away over something that wasn’t even her business. Additionally, he hadn’t really done anything that bad. Maybe he needed more time and space to talk about the issue? Or maybe it was just simply none of her business.
Reflecting on their relationship, as much as she and Obi treated each other as a sibling/best friend relationship, they had always carefully toed the line of something…..more.
Emily shook her head. “Knock it off Em. It was all in your head and you know it. Obi-Wan will always be your friend, nothing more.”
A frantic knock at the door scared her from her thoughts. She looked at the chrono. It was 10:30 at night, who would be seeking her out this late? And in such desperation?  Additionally, she had just gotten in, she had only been home for five minutes. Had someone seen Kenobi drop her off?
She didn’t want anyone to see her in this state, all red-faced, flustered, and on the verge of tears. The only person who she wouldn’t mind seeing her like this was Xira, and judging from the frantic knocking, she doubted it was her. Xira was one of the few other than Obi that Emily felt she could be her true self and not be judged or ridiculed.
A chilling thought stopped her on her way to the door. What if it was Sorv? She hadn’t seen him all day. That was odd for their relationship. Usually, he made it a point to find her if they weren’t assigned to a mission together, which had been happening a lot. For him, this constant communication was out of some suppressed macho need to touch base with her as if he was her keeper or something. Emily only tolerated it to keep the peace, but this didn’t mean that she bowed down to Sorv either. Lately, she was one of the only Jedi who would work with him, or who could handle him.
Sorv couldn’t see her like this. He would be the type to make fun of her or lecture her about being weak, criticizing her for feeling and showing her emotions.
Rolling her eyes, she dreaded the thought of his chastization; she could be spared the lecture in emotional control.
Another knock. A louder one than the previous one.
Halting halfway down the hallway that lead to the door, she stooped and eyed the door suspiciously.
She used the force to gaige the occupant on the other side of her door. She felt…..sadness and uncertainty…… mixed with anxiety. She finished the walk to her door with her hand positioned about her lightsaber, ready, just in case.
“Obi-Wan?!” She cried, startled, as he all but fell into her doorway when she opened it. He was the last person she expected to see at her door. Shouldn’t he have left a while ago?
Eying him she noticed he looked ragged and conflicted. What had happened to him in the last 15 minutes that caused him to be in his state? He was collected and calm when he dropped her off at her door.
Looking at her, really looking at her, Obi-Wan felt like he had been hit in the chest with a bolt of lighting when Emily answered the door. Puffy eyes, chapped cheks, raspy voice….Was she crying?
He couldn’t handle it if she was crying. He never wanted to see her cry.
“Why are you crying?” His question was full of shock.
Emily stared back at him blankly. If she could scream or slap him in frustration, she would. She was not answering that question. Not now. Not tonight. Too many emotions.
“Why are you back in my doorway? I thought you went back to your quarters.” She fired back, folding her arms over her chest in a closed-off stance.
“I was on my way back to my quarters, but I never made it there. And seriously, why are you crying? Are you alright?” He demanded, squaring his shoulders.
She was about to answer him but Obi-Wan could tell the answer that he was going to get from her wasn’t an answer but a continuation of their stalemate.
“Okay, this stops now. She is just going to keep playing this mental chess game with you if you don’t break this impasse that you two are at” He told himself.
Coughing slightly to clear his throat, he relaxed his stance so that it wasn’t so aggressive. He softened his facial expression and warmed his tone of voice.
“.......Emily….May I please come inside?” He interjected, speaking slowly as if he were trying to center himself.
Noticing the change in him, she relaxed as well. She didn’t say anything but moved out of the way so that he could enter her apartment.
“What is it Obi-Wan?” She sounded exasperated as she shut the door and followed him inside.
Panicking slightly, he blinked rapidly as he stared at the wall, avoiding her. He never thought he would get this far.
Raging emotions had driven his feet back to her apartment. For once in his life, he didn't want to stuff his feelings back down his throat till he felt like he would vomit, and do things the Jedi way. No, she was too important to him to leave this to chance.
He was frustrated with himself. If he was going to get used to using all these emotions then he needed to learn to find the words that went along with them.
He had his back turned to her. His hands balled into fists by his side. He was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, staring out of them, looking at the lights twinkling from buildings off in the distance.
“I know you're upset with me.” He spoke deliberately as if he was forcing himself to say the words.
“Was he really doing this? Why now? Why not five minutes ago? Why not on the balcony or the walk back to the room? What changed between then and now? And why won’t he look at me?” Emily thought to herself.
She contemplated telling him it was nothing. That everything would be fine in the morning and to do the “Jedi thing” and just move on. To send him on his way so that they can go to bed and sort out their emotions separately.
But she was still left in shock from her own emotions. She was upset with him; very upset actually. Why did he have to lie? She hated liars. They were terrible people and he was not a terrible person. It was a disservice to him and everything she knew about him.
Taking a brave, bold step, she spoke her mind.
“Yes, I am.” She said quietly looking at the floor.
His back was still facing her. She couldn’t see it but at her words, he winced.
“I’m sorry.” He said, his voice cracking.
“What?” She asked, snapping her head up.
He was still staring out the window. His emotions were threatening to boil over. He forced his voice to be even-toned and more understandable this time.
If he looked at her, he would break.
“I know that you are aware that I lied on the balcony. I am sorry. I’m sorry I lied to you. I didn’t mean to hurt you but I didn’t think I could tell you the truth. I regretted it the moment I did it. It wasn’t right and it wasn’t fair to you. We’ve never kept secrets from each other. Our friendship is better than that….. ”
His voice trailed off quietly.  “You're better than that. You deserve better than that.”
Closing his eyes, he squeezed them too tight, forcing the unshed emotion and tears to be held back.
Opening his eyes, he focused on a building in the distance, as if he could will the building to him if he focused hard enough. He regulated his breathing and centered himself.
Hearing his emotions in his voice, feeling his pain and anxiety in the force nearly choked her. Emily walked toward him so that she was standing on the side of him, where she could see his face.
She was fully crying now.
“THEN WHY DID YOU DO IT?!? What was so secretive that you couldn’t tell me?!” She shouted and huffed at him.
She was desperately trying to hold back her own emotions, but it wasn’t working. The more she tried, the more she lost the battle. It was like someone opened a floodgate. Tears washed down her face like a waterfall as her bottom lip quivered and her voice cracked.
Obi-Wan’s head dropped at the sound of her voice. He squinted his eyes shut, in pain. She was crying and it was because of him, it was his fault. He felt he deserved every ounce of pain, regret, and frustration that he felt in his chest.
Every sound was magnified in the silent apartment and in their bond that was alive in the Force. He listened to her breathing, to the tears rolling down her face and hitting the stone floor, to the frantic beating of both of their hearts.
He wanted to go back in time and change everything that happened on that balcony. To never lie in the first place. To take away her pain and sorrow and replace it with her radiant and infectious smile.
This is why he didn’t flirt with her. It was just a bad idea. He knew nothing good could ever come of it.
However, in his defense, it had never ended this badly before. He was always able to make a smooth recovery if his flirting crossed the line; until now.  Now, because of his blunder, he had to tell her the truth.
What if she took it worse than this? What if she felt betrayed that he had never told her why he acted that way all those years ago and that he played it off like it was nothing then? That he had always flirted with her and tried to gain her attention ever since the day he met her.
“It’s because I’m desperately in love with you and I can’t do anything about it.” He finally admitted it to himself.
Oh, this wasn’t good.
He trembled with emotion.
Anxiety, fear, excitement, uncertainty,  love.
Maybe he should just leave now. Just apologize for his actions again and leave without another word.
As he looked out the window in an attempt to center himself again,  his eyes dropped lower, lost in his thoughts. He focused on what was closer in the view, closer than the buildings on the horizon.
He noticed for the first time the view that was nearest to her apartment, which lay in front of the city. It was still part of the Tempel. It completely distracted him from the “here and now”, and made him forget everything that was happening between them.
It was the rooftop garden. It was the garden where their bench was.
Had this always been what her apartment overlooked? How could he have forgotten that?  Did she know that was their bench, the one from that night? Did she remember that night every time she looked out her window?
“Because the last time I was here was the night I dropped her off. The night we had spent in that garden. Other than that, I’ve  just seen her around the Temple.” He realized.
He slowly started to smile. If he knew her, and he did, he knew she would absolutely remember that bench. Emily was sentimental when it came to the people who she cared about. Any other day he would have argued that he wasn’t an important part of her life, but her reaction to this incident was changing his argument.
“Obi-Wan are you going to talk to me or are you going to stand in front of my window all night and not say anything?” Emily spoke irritatedly, interrupting his thoughts.
Keeping his eyes fixated on the Temple gardens, he whispered to her.
“The bench. You can see the bench from your apartment window. Have you always been able to see it?” His voice was filled with anticipation and nerves.
“What? Obi-Wan what are you talking about? Why are you talking in riddles?” She sighed, exasperated.
The bench was it. That was the turning point in the conversation, or at least for Obi-Wan it was.
Seeing the bench was the push he needed to open up to her. It was a reminder of not only just how much he had to lose, but also who he was dealing with.
This wasn’t just anyone, this was Emily, and like he had observed earlier, each had silently observed no secrets, no judgments. Over the years he had seen her in the garden, sitting there, under the tree once or twice. But he had always chalked it up to being a coincidence.
Now, knowing that the view of her apartment looked out onto a view of the bench every day…..well, that was the push he needed.
Clarity came rushing back to him o him; how much she meant to him. He needed to say something to her, he couldn't continue to lie to her. She deserved as much of the truth as he could give her, if not the whole thing. Damn whatever consequences happened.
He slowly turned to look at her, really looking at her for the first time since she opened the door.
She had tears streaming down her face. Her brown eyes were puffy and red. Her cheeks were raw from wiping them with her hand. She was looking at him so intently that he swore he could read every thought and emotion on her face.
It was sobering to him.
He tucked his hand into the sleeve of his brown robe and pulled it over his whole hand so that it covered the fist he made underneath the cloth. He stuck the knuckle of his index finger up from inside the robe. He closed the distance between them and used his free hand to hold her in place by the small of her back. He used his robe-covered hand to dry her tears.
“Emily…..” he took a deep breath. He started to laugh softly and smile as he dried her tears.
“Emily I never used to tell you why I showed off because YOU were the reason I showed off. I was young, foolish, and insecure. You, on the other hand, were the smartest, kindest, and most popular girl in the class and an incredibly gifted Jedi. I would have done anything to get your attention. Sadly including, Force Jumping halfway across the Arena.”
Relief. Instant relief at finally telling her the truth about his feelings for her, even if. He had substituted “most beautiful girl I had ever seen” for “popular.” It would do. He couldn’t venture too far down that path, it wouldn’t be appropriate. He could tell her that much though. If she was angry with him for covering that up all these years, then he would take it from there.
She leaned into his hand on her back, allowing him to hold her up. She was awestruck.  All that time he had been showing off for her. She had been completely oblivious. He showed off with everyone as a youngling, she never thought anything of it. Let alone that it was all for her.
“Well, if he was showing off for me then he would be doing it when he was around me, knowing I would see it, even if there were other people around. All the more if he could make himself look better in front of multiple people….all for my attention.”
As she looked up at him she noticed how his blue eyes were; a soft navy, much darker than normal. Like the color of a warm ocean on a sunny day. He was smiling softly. Moments ago the room had been filled with sadness, anxiety, and uncertainty. Now he was smiling boldly and it was contagious.
She loved his smile. And everything else about him.
“Are you serious? Please tell me that after everything that’s happened tonight, you're being serious?” She huffed.
He rewarded her with a warm smile.
“ …...But you showed off around everyone when we were younglings, not just me…”
“Yes, yes I did! That's the point, I did it to get your attention. If people had something to talk about then they would talk about me. Maybe it would get back to you? Maybe you would find it interesting and would want to know more, see more? I don’t know, looking back there wasn’t much logic in my thinking, but I was a child and I wanted to be your friend. I was ridiculous. Now, after knowing you all these years, it's hysterical how stupid it was, how foolish I was. That plan was never going to work, you're not that type of person who would be interested in a showoff. But tell that to an 11-year-old me.”
His eyes were glistening as he spoke. She was still standing in his arms. She stared at him, taking in his expression. She was suddenly flooded with memories of him as a child and even as a young teenager. Memories of him being overly athletic, overly daring, overly funny, loud, goofy, or talkative, all of his actions seemed to be to the extreme; and it was all for her.
She could feel that he was telling the truth. He had that usual calmness about him that he didn’t have on the balcony. His Force Signature was warm and strong again.
Emily blurted out laughing.
“YOU FORCE JUMPED ACROSS THE ARENA FOR ME?!” She laughed her way through her words, relief washing over her in waves.
“Oh, well thanks for laughing at me. My ankle still hurts when it rains to this day. Master Yoda lectured me about my stupidity and rashness for weeks. I finally tell you and laugh at me.” He teased.
She was laughing even harder at remembering the little, strict, green alien scolding him as he was carried off by medical droids.
“Yup I did it all to get the attention of the most popular girl in the class and secure her friendship. Little did I know all I had to do was just walk over to you, say hello, and start a conversation and I would have been fine.”
They were still standing in each other's arms. Her laughter finally died down enough for her to speak.
“Well….I am absolutely flattered. I have never been so highly sought out..…”
Nope, she was gone again. She couldn't even finish her sentence because she was giggling again.
Her laughter was like music to him; melodic and infectious. He couldn’t help but laugh along with her.
She regained her composure.
“You were adorable as a child…..well….seriously...thank you, thank you for wanting to be my friend and for being so persistent in your efforts. You’ve given me some great memories. But yes, like you said, all you had to do was be yourself. You are more than enough for anyone.”
He cast his eyes bashfully to the floor at her words.
She stiffened, suddenly becoming serious. Her change in demeanor made him stiffen his hold on her as he locked eyes with her. His facial expression evolved to match her sincerity. He held onto her as if he was afraid to let her go. That if he did, she would disappear and leave him there, all alone.
“Obi-Wan…..please don’t ever lie to me again. I was so hurt that you did that. You know as well as I do that we are close friends. We have been through so much. I’ve known you since I was 8. Next to Master Plo and Master Yoda, you are one of the people in my life who I have known the longest. Knowing that you lied to me….I felt so betrayed and crushed. Please don’t ever feel like there isn’t anything you can’t tell me and please….please never lie to me again. Liars are terrible, dishonest people and that is everything you are not.”
There was no hint of mischief or laughter in her voice this time. She was now very serious. He knew he had hurt her. He would never forget that look on her face, the sound of her voice, and the hurt that he had heard and felt. He would never betray her like that again.
“Oh, but if you only knew how much I can’t tell you….but that’s not the same thing as lying...no I’ll never do that again.” He thought to himself.
Still holding her in his arms, he moved both of his hands so that they were now placed on her arms, as he was trying to convey the seriousness of his emotion.
“I was stupid and foolish then and I’m stupid and foolish now. I have never lied to you before this and on my honor, I will never lie to you again. I was childish actions all those years ago, I now realize how stupid that was. When I walked away from your apartment tonight I felt like if I didn’t come back and make it right that I would have lost you forever. I can’t lose you, nothing is worth that. I may have not been 8 when I met you but you are one dearest and oldest friend next to Master Yoda as well. You were there for one of the lowest, hardest points of my life. You have been an unwavering friend ever since I met you….. I promise I will never hurt you again.”
She closed the distance between them and hugged him tightly. She believed him.
“Thank you.” She spoke as she rested her head against his chest, his heartbeat calming her.
He stood up to his full height, received her embrace, and placed his chin onto the top of her head.
“I promise.” He closed his eyes and breathed in the smell of her hair. It still smelled like the wildflowers of Naboo.
I'm never getting over how sick he looks
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a very dull looking scene, almost grayscale. That choice shows you just how sickening this mission is to Obi-Wan.
Obi-Wan is hunched over, head between his knees. He looks physically sick. Everyone looks to him, he can say 'no,' but how could he possibly deny them? His life is the Jedi, and in the pursuit of peace he's asked to do something he cannot but a Jedi Master can, without question, Obi-Wan Kenobi can and he must.
The second shot, that's the face of resignation. He can't even speak, you can see he almost opens his mouth but all he can do is nod. This is where we see the line of duty and the individual. When challenged, Obi-Wan chooses the light, at the expense of himself, at the expense of those he loves.
He knows Anakin will never forgive because when challenged, Anakin doesn't choose the light, he chooses who he loves. And Obi-Wan cannot tell Anakin that choosing those you love isn't the correct choice.
This is the hero sacrificing you to save the world, this is Obi-Wan sacrificing himself, sacrificing Anakin for the greater good. But what's so good about letting your best friend think you've slipped away into death, mere feet from his grasp? Where's the good in watching someone you love die?
Obi-Wan remembers watching Qui-Gon's last breath leave his body, he never recovered. Where's the good in knowing all the pain your about to put your best friend through? The good in always seeing your ghost?
