I've made a few posts talking about things in the nonhuman and alterhuman communities recently, mostly just brief looks into them, so I thought I would share this one.
The info may not be all that much, and could easily be expanded upon, but I did my best for a simple bit of info for certain things.
All pictures have ALT text included, but I shall post the text also here, under a cut, cause it's a bit long, lol
Nonhuman as an identity: To identify as not human either fully or partially. (hate/trolls will be reported and deleted)
Reminder: These are all personal identities and why someone identifies as nonhuman and what term someone decides to use for themself is exclusively their business. In the end it is what makes the most sense to the individual and not up to others. Now, onto some of the communities that are included under the nonhuman identity:
Otherkin: from the term "otherkind" - an identity which typically encompasses being wholly or partially a nonhuman entity. Usually understood to cover those who identify as mythical creatures and other fantastical things. Also covers those that fall outside of beings and creatures.
Examples of non-being or creature based identities: Conceptkin: an identity where one identifies as a concept such as the concept of night or fire. Objectkin: and identity where one identifies as an object. Songkin: an identity where one identifies as a song.
Examples of being and creature based identities: Therianthropy: usually shortened to therian - where one identifies AS a nonhuman animal. Some will say that this term refers to only earthen animals, living or extinct, but it has never only encompassed earthly animals. The community's language came from those who identify as werecreatures. Theriomythic: an alternate identity term for one who identifies in some intrinsic was as a mythical creature. Paleotherian: an identity term for one who identifies as a now extinct earthly animal, like a dinosaur or mammoth.
Cladotherian or Cladokin: an identity term for one who does not identify as a distinct species, but a broader identity encompassing an entire genus or larger grouping. Cladomythic: an identity term for one who identifies as a group (clade) of animalistic mythical creatures.
Fictionkin: an identity term that covers all things fictional. For those who identify as something fictional like characters, animals, species, objects, etc. These can be from books, shows, video games, etc, but not always! Original fictional characters and such are also possible.
There are many other identities that fall under the nonhuman umbrella which is why it's important to do your own research to figure out if a certain term works for you. All these identities share the trait of being involuntary. You cannot choose to be therian, otherkin, or the other mentioned identities.
While the already mentioned identities are involuntary, there are some identities that fall under being voluntary. Otherlink: an identity where one voluntarily identifies as nonhuman. Copinglink: an identity where one voluntarily identifies as nonhuman to copes with things such as trauma, stress, etc.
A lot of people may also say that it is impossible to become a therian, otherkin, etc. While the identity is involuntary, things like trauma and neurodivergence can cause an individual to take on a nonhuman identity when they had not had one previously.
Most will usually see people explain that these identities are spiritual or psychological, but these are only some of the ways that individuals may experience them. Some other experiences of nonhumanity: Symbolic Metaphorical Ancestral Physical (Yes this is an actual reason for some and they are just as much a part of the community as anyone else. Physical and Ancestral nonhumans are part of the community's history and some of its founders.)
For those looking for more information, and community places, here are some places to check out! Werelist Nonhuman National Park Alterhuman Archive The Chimera's Library. The above are forums and archives of information on the community. Most archived information is thanks to who-is-page, liongoatsnake and frameacloud on tumblr.
While this is a brief look into the nonhuman identity that I could share, I do hope it has been helpful in some way. Remember to be true to yourself, and don't let anyone tell you how to feel. Ignore, report, delete and block the haters!
Yeen out~

We don't see much about identities relating to objects, concepts or plants in the alterhuman community and we'd absolutely love to see more. This is a call for all objects, plants, concepts and those with identities related to them that are so underrepresented in our community to speak about their experiences.
"Who will read my essay?" we will, and people after us will as well. Your experiences are valued by the community and you have just as much of a right to speak up as anyone of any other alterhuman identity.
I'd absolutely love to have people reblog this or comment and add their experiences, and better yet also make their own posts to be more widely shared with the community.

DO NOT POST YOUR ADDRESS ONLINE TO MEET OTHER THERIANS
I have seen kids ages ranging from 9-13 ish post their ages, faces, and addresses in the hopes of meeting other therians. DO NOT DO THIS!!! Please for the love of everything don't do this, don't post anything publicly, no one should know anything personal about you.
"Well I want irl therian friends!"
You can make irl friends differently, try drawing the delta on your hand or wearing a delta necklace. I know it's not easy to find other therians, but don't post anything about you.
You could be hurt, assaulted, robbed, ect. Bad things can and WILL happen. Be safe online please!
EDIT: please reblog! I don't like forcing people to reblog stuff with a guilt trippy tag, but when it comes to internet safety reblogging is important!
If you don't reblog it's less likely for someone who needs this to see it!
Not forcing anyone of course! But please reblog!

What I say: I understand that trolls trying to hurt the alterhuman community sometimes pretend to identify as objects, but considering identifying as an object to be an automatic red flag only hurts actually objectkin and makes us feel unsafe in our own communities.
What I want to say: STOP PUTTING OBJECTKIN ON OTHERKIN RED FLAG LISTS OR I SWEAR I AM STEALING YOUR KNEECAPS!

Hi
I would like to know what types of alterhumans are the most present on Tumblr ✨
If you are fictionkin and therian, for exemple, vote for the dominant kintype and if you don't have a dominant kintype, press other.
Eeeee yes I have forgot the t in plantkin 😅

I don’t know who needs to hear this today but if you love having lots of kintypes you are valid. if hoarding alterhuman flags and terms is fun and euphoric for you then you are valid. if you don’t know why you identify with every kintype you are valid. if you have a long hoard of kintypes that just feel right you are valid.
you do not owe anyone an explanation of your alterhumanity. you are not inferior to those who are deeply introspective about their types just because you label hoard, or don’t have a complex reason as to why you id this way
I appreciate you 🫶🐾

Unpopular opinion: let people have fun and be cringe. Let that 11 year old therian identify as a crow. Let that 14 year old on tumblr use 🍁/🍁self pronouns. Let that middle schooler be obsessed with undertale and be asrielcharic. Let that random person on pinterest have a board of xenogenders and catgenders. A random internet person identifying as a hairbrush harms absolutely NO ONE. Period.

Since my last post about this kind of blew up, I’m going to take the opportunity and talk some more about red flag lists. Specifically, this red flag list posted in an otherkin community I’m part of. I’m not targeting this community specifically, I’m targeting red flag lists as a whole. This is just the one that was easiest for me to find.
Tumblr media
Okay, let’s break this down, shall we?
-Claims to be an object: Objectkin exist. I know we exist because I am one. I’m a calculator. A calculator is typing this. Many of us are animists and believe in objects having souls (me included). And psychological objectkin exist too. You don’t get to pretend we’re all trolls because we don’t fit your idea of what otherkinity looks like.
-Size is unusual: I thought otherkin can be anything, including fictional creatures. If someone says, “My kintype is that I’m basically a wolf, but I’m the size of a house”, what right do I have to doubt that? Just because wolves that size don’t exist in real life doesn’t mean they can’t be a kintype. This point is just stupid.
-Claims a high number of kintypes with a majority fictional: Okay, what do you consider a high number? 10? 20? 30? Whatever number you pick is going to be completely arbitrary. What makes that number the number that should separate “valid” otherkin from “invalid” otherkin? Why do otherkin with high numbers of kintypes deserve to be separated? Tell me, in plain language, what is wrong with polykin. Oh, and why you hate fictionkin.
-Claims to be able to physically shift: This one I don’t know how much I can say on, because I don’t know much about the physically nonhuman community and am not a part of that community. But I do know that clinical lycanthropy and clinical zooanthropy exist. If any member of the physically nonhuman community wants to add anything, feel free.
-Implies wanting attention: Everyone wants attention. It’s how socializing works. You give someone attention and they give you attention in return. I clearly want attention. If I didn’t, I would keep all my alterhumanity thoughts inside my head instead of having a blog where other people can interact with my thoughts. And if need for attention becomes disordered, then you’re describing HPD. People with HPD can still be otherkin. Implying otherwise is ableist.
-Reacts defensively when questioned: Yes, otherkin should be able to calmly explain their kintypes. But what if you’re demanded to explain yourself day after day, and people still don’t believe you about your own experiences? Wouldn’t it be reasonable for you to get just a bit frustrated?! Are otherkin just expected to bottle up all that frustration?
-Mentions being unable to live in society: In what context do they mention this? There are many people with disabilities who are unable to live in our current society without a caregiver. Those disabled people… can be otherkin. Shocker. I myself don’t need a caregiver, but I do need many accommodations for me to be able to live in society the same way everyone else does. That’s just how being disabled is sometimes.
Anyway, rant over. I hope this cleared up why red flag lists are BS.
