Fanfic Authors to reread

Here's a list of my favorite fanfic authors that write such masterpieces I'm left in awe. I have reread many, many of their stories because the writing is so good.

Astolat - I've read all of her Witcher and Transformer works at least seven times each, lol. The Game of Thrones stories are mind-bogglingly creative, and the Harry Potter works are the best I've ever read in the entire fandom ever. I love how quickly each story progresses and how immersive each world is, and I find that her stories are the ones my mind most often turns to and thinks about while I'm daydreaming.

spqr - phenomenal, breathtaking, single-chapter oneshots that slice into a fandom with such precision that you don't even have to know what the fandom is but you'll love it and feel like you've been a part of it for years. Masterful, exquisite, heartfelt stories that are like a solid jab to the solar plexus when you step into them.

betts - oh my gosh does this author know how messy emotions and relationships and life can be. She flays apart characters, sees what makes them who they are--all the flaws, mistakes, grief, bad parts of them--and shows exactly what it means to be human. I've never felt seen like this before. betts has a gift and each story is an absolute treasure.

glimmerglanger - this makes me want to cry. I've bookmarked every single one of their stories. Read many of them over and over and over. Screamed in elation when a new update came through. but - they're gone. Nuked. Obliterated. My heart goes to the author. This is a reminder to treat these writers better, to not nag or insult or complain about the writing they do for free. I sobbed when I found out their entire archive had been deleted. Those stories were breathtaking. Staggeringly creative. All Codywan fics set in such masterful worlds: the Mermaid AU, Magic AU, Yellowstone, Baseball, Time Travel, Captured by Vader and tortured, heck, even the Animal Crossing crack!fic was a blast to read. The rarepairs were so much fun, Just Right with Obi-Wan/Alpha 17 was a personal favorite. I hope glimmerglanger is doing ok and knows that they have so much support from dedicated fans.

objectlesson - alright this is my guilty pleasure. Here's who to go to if you want interesting, hot, probably out of your comfort zone but gosh darnit if it doesn't awaken something in you, smut. Never thought I'd read Doc/Lightning McQueen fanfic but here we are. This author knows exactly what's she's doing and I'm all for it.

goldcranes - Masterclass of intense focus on little details. On exactly which lens setting you use to set the scene, what to focus on, how to best portray what's happening to wrench on your reader's heartstrings and make them feel. Phenomenal writing.

esama - my first fandom crush :). Whispers in Corners is my #1 favorite fanfic of all time. She's who I turned to when I first started reading fanfic a decade ago and I still lovingly go back and read what I consider her greatest hits.

underrated dinluke fics/authors? we always hear about the same ones but you're chill so do you have anyone new?

Hello there! I'll admit, I haven't read much new dinluke since I started writing for the fandom... 3 years ago oh god jfc. We also now have years' worth of dinluke fics to trawl through on AO3, so I had to dig/ask around for recs. I'm also bringing back my go-to rec list that features mainly older authors and includes fics/writers I would've already recced. the classic(s):

stain the water clear! a must-read. #1 sbcl fic forever its like scripture to me. portrays their dynamic exactly how ive always envisioned it, in a way thats both devastating and so dark but also strangely tender and loving and intimate. (+ i recommend reading other works by objectlesson as well, i feel like they Get It like no one else does.)

the other classic kuro scholars on twitter always talk about it the flowers of evil series - personally i have a complicated relationship with this one cause i just dont enjoy sebastians characterization in it but it is extremely well-written and has some really iconic moments (the fucking mind games here... unparalleled) so if i were you id definitely check it out! feels very canon-compliant too.

(both of these can be somewhat triggering at times so heed the tags and make sure to take care of yourself!)

bloodletting was the first sbcl fic i found that i actually enjoyed and it has such a special place in my heart, its almost a classic to me too... its the only sub sebastian fic i know of which is so sad because thats literally canon. to me. lets all shut up about the daddy dom bullshit and get on this immediately. 💯

i love pretty much all fics by martialartist861s #good old yaoi. (im especially fond of the one where they fuck while sebastian is in his old man from book of murder form and they get off at the emphasized age difference, i think thats crazy and i dont think ive seen it before. respect both for unhinged originality and the eroticism. + the sex pollen one)

I like a lot of different flavors but, to keep it simple, I'll try to match my recommendations to the theme I'm cultivating on this blog so far.

First of all, I have to mention skyl_tales, they wrote some of the absolute Obikin classics and I love their work, it's very dear to me. If you haven't read anything from them yet, I strongly recommend taking a look at their works and going for anything that captures your attention!

Alright, now my conscience is clear and we can move on:

Armageddon Game by posthumous_vigor

One of my more recent obsessions. Basically, padawan Obi-Wan gets captured by Sith Anakin and then groomed to the Dark Side. What I enjoy about this one is how, even despite the unfavorable cards that Obi-Wan has been dealt, he cleverly chases down his goals... but not without twisting himself in the pursuit as well. He is an active actor in this play and ultimately it is not Anakin who Obi-Wan plays against. And by recommending this I'm recommending the whole series :).

Untouched by objectlesson

This fic has one the most predatory padawan Anakin I've ever seen. This child is just so deliciously fucked up in the head. I... I think I'll just let the author's summary speak for itself: In his darkest moments, Anakin began to think of it as his right. To control Obi-Wan’s sleeping mind, force it into a box, shut it up so he could take what he deserved. Warm skin, slack face, soft snores. And then—then—more.

pleasure, little treasure by objectlesson

A guilty pleasure of mine. And probably a very hard pill to swallow, so careful there. In this one, Vader goes back in time, kidnaps Jedi initiate Obi-Wan, and makes him his apprentice. Yes, it's very dark, a psychological horror, but this author writes with such skill and poetry that I trusted they could make me enjoy reading stuff I'd normally avoid... And I was right. The beauty in the abominable. That's why I love this author, the things they write are so refreshingly daring and so deeply fucked up on so many levels, but served in a way that makes me swallow it all up without question. (oh, I should probably mention that as of now this fic is unfinished, I seldomly pick up unfinished works, but with this one, I have no regrets :))

hold my heart more gently than you do my throat by tennessoui

This is a role reversal omegaverse AU. Master Skywalker has been captured by the Separatists, and behind the Council's back, his omega Padawan sets out to save the master in distress. It is debatable if the master in question needs the saving -noises of massacre in the background- (he did need the saving, in my opinion :)). What I really love about this fic are the horror vibes of little Padawan getting chased down the hallways of the enemy base full of dead bodies, and an unknown monster breathing down his neck, but the only thing on his mind is how to find his master and rescue him. Also, I enjoyed the final twist and how the story unfolded in the end. Satisfying. If omegaverse is your thing I definitely recommend this one.

Out of all the recommendations, I consider this to be the tame one. If all of the above made you hesitant to try, this is the one to go with. The summary: Vader keeps capturing Obi-Wan during the Wars. Obi-Wan keeps escaping. It's kind of a thing. I'm recommending this one for the banter. Some of it is just next level. Very amusing to read. Chef's kiss.

When the Abyss Stares Back at You by skyl_tales

Possibly the best Obikin fics I've read. It does not require you to actively be involved in the fandom as it gently guides you through all the relevant plot points. It has everything... banter, plot, pining and angst and some real impressive mental acrobatics on boths parts. > Properly and snugly canon-compliant but fully explained in the story itself.

Gay Chicken by zimriya

Now listen, before you judge the title choice— listen. This is one of the funniest fics I read, it was so baffling and silly that a surprised laughter simply tore out of me, on a day I was truly not up for laughing. It was uplifting, silly and clever, and most importantly, fun. > This one is an AU, doesn't require any Star Wars background knowledge at all.

Now this is possibly the biggest surprise of the year for me. A fic that under normal conditions I would have never given a chance to, shook my very core so firmly I am not certain I am the same, since. Do not let the 2nd person discourage you, nor pay any mind to the tags (I'm so sorry author, but your tags are akin to describing a chocolate truffle as sweet mush ball). The only possible way I could describe this piece is as deeply, personally human. It delves into such emotions, such depth of human existence that one must take a moment to actually breath after reading it. I strongly encourage giving it a go, it is far more than tropes of ships, it's simply beautiful. > Intertwined with Canon, however doesn't require strict or recent Star Wars knowledge.

If there's one thing you must know about me, is that I never recommend things without a satisfying ending, trust me.

why yes I do!!! but uhhhhh indeed they are all smut because I love it when there's yearning and desperation and it gets physical, it's all about the ✨intimacy✨. and also my ao3 tab is open with the explicit search on so I've been like, you know, let's read through these first then LMAO the goods under the read more....

I only have four I would recommend because I'm real picky, I have so many tags excluded and for example I don't like AUs which slims down my selection quite a bit. I also left out some who were fine but not as well-written as these. so here's my top 4 merthur fics so far (in no particular order)

At Our Best When It's From the Hips by derryere the premise of this is that merlin is sexually frustrated and decides to go to a brothel to lose his virginity where he runs into ARTHUR?! and I began to read thinking I won't like it but it was GREAT!!! arthur fighting his feelings but failing horribly is where I'm at

Rebirth by teprometo merlin is being lonely in the modern times waiting for arthur and hangs out with also-immortal leon in a pub (I don't know who leon is yet but I'm rolling with it) and the dialogue is really great. and there is of course fucking in the next chapter but the first chapter alone would have made my favourites list, it's so good!

A Collapsing Star With Tunnel Vision by objectlesson arthur and merlin go hunting and are forced to face their feelings for each other and it's EXCELLENT

Like Rock by kilvmaim I've talked about this fic before, it's the first merthur fic that I liked and it's YEAA-YEAAAAA SO GOOooOOooOooOOD
