Linking Adventure!!!

OKAY SO I FINALLY CAVED

i’ve been daydreaming about link redesigns for years but always figured it was too big a project or nobody would want Yet Another Link Redesign but i actually love every link redesign i’ve seen and there have been more and more lately (props you guys they’re all awesome) so here are mine! i have no intentions to turn this into a full AU even if i do have the plot for it kicking around my brain, i just wanted to share my fun character ideas :3 obligatory disclaimer that this is not LinkedUniverse (or linkedmaze, or linkverse, or bonus links, or—) so don’t tag it as such!

it’s called “Linking Adventure” because *cough* maybe it was an adventure but also because the Point of the adventure is to link the three timelines together before the universe disintegrates. fun! this selection of links, then, is all the ones who get recruited for the quest.

here’s how that went down btw:

Hylia/Zelda (“Vega” in this AU): UGGGGH SkSw Link (“Altair” in this AU): what’s wrong? Vega: I JUST COMMUNED WITH THE GOLDEN GODDESSES Altair: oh no Vega: THEY LET THIS NINE YEAR OLD BREAK THE FABRIC OF REALITY. TWICE Altair: oh no Vega: AND NOW THEY’RE TRYING TO FIX IT Altair: yay? Vega: BY SMASHING ALL THE REALITIES TOGETHER Altair: oh dear. where is this? Vega: in like a buncha millennia Altair: oH. so wait where will you be you at the time? Vega: I doN’t KnOW! Altair: can i help? Vega: yes please Altair: cool. how do i do that. Vega: I’m gonna yell at Nayru and get her to yeet you into the future. there’s three heroes, one in each timeline, whose help you’re gonna need Altair: nice Vega: Oh also go grab the Hero of Legend, too. He’s pals with her oracle and will definitely come in handy Altair: sick Vega: cool okay so to stabilize the Convergence you’re going to need to find the full Triforce in each era and merge them together—that should hold most of reality together pretty solidly. you’ll need each timeline’s master sword to do that, though, since it’s the only artifact strong enough to withstand that kind of power. Also you can’t bring your own Master Sword because that might break reality. i’m sorry. is that too much? you’ve done so much already, you don’t have to— Altair: this isn’t like last time, though. i’ve got more experience, there’s no demon king to fight, and you’ll be safe. that’s all that matters. Vega: thank you. so much. Altair: just don’t erect any statues in my honor while i’m gone Vega: no promises!

TRAVELER: [aLttP, OoA, OoS, LA, ALBW] 17 yo (he/him) Nicknamed himself for his passion in life - LOVES adventuring & traveling - hates fighting—prefers to avoid/distract enemies - incredibly fast & agile—attacks by surprise - the lightning strike just before Koholint made him almost completely deaf - and gave him arrhythmia (tachycardia) - gets chest pains/short of breath sometimes - when he’s backed into a corner, he’ll go feral with his magic rods - kid’s a walking encyclopedia - super kindhearted—cannot refuse someone who needs help - incredibly curious & nosy (if someone needs help, he will find out about it) - prefers to sign, but can still talk, since he could hear for most his life, but sometimes he’s hard to understand b/c he’s been deaf for a year. - his eyes are really, REALLY vibrant blue ever since he used the Triforce the second time—they glow faintly in the dark - somehow more level-headed when in danger than when he’s safe - he’s like a freaking cockroach he WILL NOT die - damage reduction items have no effect on pain <3 - pretends Koholint never happened (claims to have only been on 4 adventures) - ✨avoidance coping✨ (Dialogue Sample): “hey, is this place upsetting you? If it helps, I’ve catalogued 4 separate exit routes and have strategies set up for handling all the monsters we’re likely to encounter here!” (Outfit Description): he has pegasus boots, the magic cape from aLttP (which turns him invisible and invincible), the Protection Ring from OoA/OoS (which makes him take 1 heart of damage from every attack), the red tunic from ALBW (which reduces damage taken by 75%), and the Heart Ring L-2 from OoA/OoS (which heals him over time)

WIND [WW+PH] 14 yo (he/him) Nicknamed himself for his position as Wind Waker and his love for the ocean’s breezes - ADHD (hyperactive) and misophonia - he will flip out if a noise bothers him too much - somehow, he always seems upbeat—master of mind over matter - never loses sight of the big picture - can be curled up in a ball, crying, hands over his ears, and still say with full certainty that he loves life - “I’m not okay, but I will be, and that’s enough for me.” - If he loses hope, the world is literally ending - Really Freaking Good with a bow and arrow - his ice, fire, and light arrows are so OP - uses one of Tetra’s cutlasses ever since he jammed the Master Sword into Ganondorf’s skull - he’s had a no-killing-humanoids policy since then, too (clarification: he’ll only kill things that burst into purple smoke upon death) - even though Phantom Hourglass took 10 irl minutes, he counts those months towards his age - has no items from PH except for the empty hourglass - the Pirate’s Charm around his neck glows faintly in the dark. members of the Royal Family can speak through it—everyone else can only play the messages he’s recorded on it - oh yeah, he can record and play audio messages on it (Dialogue Sample): “how dare you! that’s the same as just giving up!“ (Outfit Description): friendship bracelet Aryll made (a set of 4 for her, Tetra, Wind, and Grandma); bracelet of grass he learned how to weave in the Ocean King’s world; custom made coat a 13th b-day present from Tetra (he’ll grow into it); socks were a gift from Aryll

ALTAIR [SkSw] 22 yo (he/him) Nicknamed himself for his Loftwing, who he named after the brightest start in Aquila, the eagle constellation - ADHD (inattentive) - has prophetic dreams - Team mom energy - usually tries to avoid combat—focus on support/defense (clarification: unless he deems it appropriate to draw his sword, in which case, Oh No) - may or may not be the King of Hyrule - he is trying to be very diplomatic—likes to talk things out - loves talking about everyone’s feelings but his own - he’s the kind of person you grow really close to really fast and tell everything to and then realize several months in that you know NOTHING about him - kind of under a lot of pressure—acts like it doesn’t affect him so people still feel comfortable coming to him for help - he’s nominally in charge cuz Hylia sent him to grab the others but he honestly doesn’t care—it’s all Laissez-faire - unless you make him angry - it’s very hard to make him angry - but when he is, he’s like a completely different person—grows completely silent and becomes brutally efficient - his left eye’s been purple ever since Demise—don’t worry, it’s totally fine and normal for it to be doing that.

NIGHT [TP] 23 yo (she/her) Nicknamed herself night because night is what comes after the twilight and she felt really lost after the events of TP - just kind of a girl dw about it - what happened to her leg? well she HAD it when she fought Ganondorf... idk where it went~ she’s got her knee but nothing below that - she got that canon repair guy to make her a new leg - it has a gun in it. it shoots explosive rounds & has 10 shots - she’s ambidextrous and decided to take full advantage of that by dual wielding blades - ever since she lost her leg, she had this awesome fighting style where she switches frequently between hylian and wolf, darting around the battlefield on 3 legs before shifting into a hylian in midair, lashing out with both blades, and landing as a wolf. she’s very good at it but after a long battle she’ll be sick for a little while from the magic. - takes on the leader role determinedly. fiercely protective - she cares so, so deeply and honestly all the time. it hurts so much but she can’t help it and doesn’t want to. she’ll keep caring even if it kills her. - has, on some level, lost hope that she’ll ever be happy. Ordon feels intensely wrong, somehow, and she doesn’t know where else to go. everywhere she goes, she feels trapped. - Midna said “see you later” and then destroyed the portal. Night doesn’t take people at their word. She won’t be vocal about it, but she won’t believe them, either. - harbors distrust towards Altair but still cares so deeply for him. fully expecting to get backstabbed and that the pain of it will kill her (clarification: this killing is metaphorical)

here’s a silm-specific fic trope: post-rescue from Thangorodrim fics! (It has its own tag and everything)

Ahh I have no idea. I have never read one. I KNOW! But up until a very short time ago (namely: reading this story and having both my life and my appreciation for Fëanorians changed by it), I simply did not care about Maedhros enough to care to read fics about him. I didn't dislike him; I just didn't care. (I KNOW.) So I have no idea!

But I'm going to grade it a B- because I feel like probably there's not going to be a lot of originality going on in most of those fics (this is not meant as shade btw! sometimes you have to Write The Obvious, it's important and there's a reason why some things get written over and over. also I literally tagged one of my recent fics "the obligatory post-Helm's Deep bathing together fic" so like. I'm definitely the last person who should be throwing shade for "lack of originality" as though that were a BAD thing lmao. it's not.) and a fair amount of them probably just go the basic hurt/comfort route without much depth of character or thought which isn't really my jam — but the best of them are probably VERY emotionally fraught and beautifully agonizing because that is definitely a good situation to build a fic off. (Hence why it's been written enough to have it's own tag. Which I love, btw. That is the sign of a healthy fandom. Brava, Silm-writers.)

So it sounds like a Good Trope that probably gets Overdone Like Whoah, which would make it hard to pick through and find the really good ones...but no doubt very rewarding and worthwhile when you do. Because that is how the Everyone And Their Mother Has Written This Scene fics tend to go, I think: lots of stories that are repetitive enough to get dull when you read a lot of them (and you will read a lot of them when it involves a character you like, because there's a reason why Everyone And Their Mum has written their own take on that story), even when they're perfectly valid and delightful on their own individual merits, but then precisely because they're such a commonly done thing, you every now and then get one that's either such an unexpected-yet-perfect twist that it knocks you out of the park — or one that's simply so exquisitely written that the fact that it's "repetitive" is in fact a strength, because that familiarity serves to ground and highlight how breathtakingly beautiful the words in this one are.

last show: Over the past few months, I have been relearning how to live in the same house as my parents and my brother for an extended period of time for the first time since I was twelve years old. It's been fun. My mother has discovered Kdramas, and so I am her Kdrama-watching buddy; our last show was the reincarnation corporate drama Reborn Rich, would recommend if you like watching young upstarts get the better of their greedy-to-incompetent rich conglomerate family.

currently watching: Still on the Kdrama theme, the romcom Her Private Life. It's a fake dating fic, it's a love letter to fandom, it's art that loves art, its romantic leads are achievers in their professional lives and obsessive weirdo disasters in their personal lives. I am obviously enjoying it immensely.

currently reading: I've been horrible at finishing books lately. Been flipping between Vanity Fair, The Prague Cemetery, and Middlemarch.

current obsession: Stereogum's column on Billboard's Number Ones has had me in a chokehold since I first discovered it a month and a half (?) ago. Slowly and steadily backreading alllll of it, and listening to the tunes. I might like reading good pop music commentary more than I like actually listening to good pop music, but don't quote me on that.

Also still stuck on Claude von Riegan and his ragtag team of deer. Have had to give up pretending I wasn't writing fic about the end of the Leicester Alliance, a.k.a. My Feelings About the Pros and Cons of Decentralized Governments During Emergencies, though whether or not it ever leaves my notebooks is another thing altogether.

AAAAAAAAAA I am so glad you enjoyed it! Feel free to scream at me about it ANY time. I think I may have to go and reread it now.

In regards to other recommendations... oooooh boy. I have so many. This took me a while because I was considering if this would be respectful to the strikes, but we haven't been told to stay away from any streaming services etc. yet, so after removing a scab from the recommendation list I decided to post it. Apologies in advance for the tangents I go on for every single recommendation. Some of these have been quite popular so you might know of them but it still felt worth mentioning.

Under the cut is a non-exhaustive list of media in no particular order that makes me want to eat glass. Take a shot every time I say heartbreaking.

Movies

Lord of the Rings 1/2/3 - I feel no need to explain myself. If you haven't seen this please for the love of god get your hands on the extended versions and watch them. Then read the books and watch the movies again. Rinse and repeat.

How to Train Your Dragon and How to Train Your Dragon 2 - You read that right, NOT the third movie. In this house the third movie doesn't exist. This is an animated movie and sequel based on the book it shares a name with by Cressida Cowel. The movie follows protagonist Hiccup who lives in a town of Vikings who hunt and kill dragons. He finds out that he can't kill a dragon he has caught, and is surprised when the dragon won't kill him either. His curiosity gets the best of him and he returns to watch the dragon in it's hideout, and a beautiful friendship emerges from a very messy situation. It doesn't happen often that a movie is better than the book, especially if the source material has been changed so drastically, but HTTYD pulls it off. The first movie was also my introduction to fandom, and both movies have an incredibly special place in my heart. Fun fact: I actually am the OP of a pretty popular fandom headcannon and it makes me giggle every time I see it be mentioned in the HTTYD tag.

Inception - Obligatory action movie. Heist movie except sci-fi and also everyone is queer and sexy (no it's not canon but it is canon to me). Conman Leo DiCaprio breaks into rich boy Cilian Murphy's dreams to convince him to give up his father's business in exchange for getting his criminal file wiped clean so he can see his kids again. I love sad dads and I love mind games and I love high stakes and I love time fuckery and I love mentally ill women. Watch it if you also do.

Portrait of a Lady on Fire - Perfect. Showstopping. Incredible. Does not pass the reverse Bechdel test. It is so incredibly hearthbreaking and soft and tender. Period drama with lesbians. Painter Noémi Merlant is hired to pretend to be a companion to Adèle Haenel while secretly painting her portrait to be sent off to a man she is being married off to. There is betrayal and trust and community and lust and it's so gorgeous to look at. The attention to detail is incredible and I want to kiss Céline Sciamma for bringing this movie to my screen. I cry every time I watch it. Queer heartache done right.

The Lake House - I don't know if this movie is actually that good but to me it is perfect. Contractor Keanu Reeves moves into a gorgeous lake house (my dream home) and starts receiving letters addressed to the previous owner and doctor Sandra Bullock. When he gets a letter from her with her new address and sees it's to a building that's still in development, the two skeptics come to the conclusion they are living years apart and their post box is some sort of portal. They fall in love, things go wrong, things go right, and there is a dog!

Series

Orphan Black - Listen. Listen. LISTEN. Tatiana Maslany. Wow. She plays a dozen (if not more) clones and I still have a hard time believing they weren't all different people. Trouble kid forced to be an adult because she is a mother sees herself jump in front of a train and uhhhh has issues with that. She then discovers there are so many others like her, that they were a part of a cloning project and that she is a bit of a special case. There is a lot of plot I cannot summarize but it's deliciously queer (one of the main character clones is a lesbian as well as two prominent gay side characters and other minor queer and trans characters). Found family, questions of what it means to love and of morality, some wonderfully written character arcs and a decently satisfying end. First few episodes can be a bit hard to get into, but Tatiana Maslany is incredible and the show is totally worth it.

Adventure Time - This is a big comfort show for me, not only because Marceline and Princess Bubblegum were one of my first queer ships ever, but also because I enjoy this show just as much as an adult. No real main story line, you could watch individual episodes and still follow it. There are some heavy themes, but they are always handled so wonderfully and with a true sense of childlike wonder, and it makes me have faith in humanity again. Finn the Human and Jake the Dog go on adventures together in a gigantic fantasy land and meet lots of interesting figures. Even the evil characters get attention, compassion, screen time, and dignity. It's heartbreaking and beautiful and so so so good.

The Mentalist - Sorry, there is a cop show in here. Simon Baker is an ex 'psychic' grieving father and husband working as a consultant with the CBI. His boss, Robin Tunney, is so in love with him she looks stupid. It's basically a man who is too smart for his own good running around, being charming or extremely annoying, and an exhausted tough-love type of woman running around fixing his messes. Oh and they catch killers. I am a Patric Jane kinnie, sue me. Jane and Lisbon are also very Griddlehark to me, kind of a what could have been if they had been friends from the beginning.

Russian Doll - Have I ever mentioned how much I love Natasha Lyonne? This is a kind of sexier Groundhog Day, where Natasha Lyonne keeps dying and waking up in the bathroom of her friend throwing her a birthday party. She loses her mind in the midst of gorgeous scenes, seriously beautiful cinematography, and in sexy ass outfits. If you like mind fuckery, cinematography, and sexy women this is the show for you. It sure is the show for me.

Arcane - Speaking of gorgeous visuals, Arcane is a beast of a show with such an incredible and unique look. Also so many hot and/or gay women. There are a few men too, they're okay, I do like me a pathetic little guy so it works. But WOMEN. So many powerful, intelligent, cunning, courageous women. I have to admit that I remember very little of the storyline, but I do know that they took 'Manic Pixie Dream Girl', said "yes and", and made a truly incredible and multi dimensional character with Jinx, with fully fleshed out motivations and morals (or lack thereof), understandable but still properly wrong actions, and such incredible story building around her progressing mental troubles. Must watch.

The Sandman - This one is not technically an obsession I have ever had, but it is a great watch and rewatch. I adore Vivienne Acheampong as Lucienne and I adore Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer and I adore Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death. I also love pretty much anything that comes out of Neil Gaiman's brain so that helps. Great casting is what makes this show a winner for me. Morpheus/Dream gets locked up by some insane guy trying to capture death to bring back his son and he spends the rest of the show dealing with the consequences of being gone for decades. Tom Sturridge is a wet cat of a man and I do like that a lot as well. Very pretty cinematography seals the deal.

Misc.

The Magnus Archives - Podcast wildcard. Horror and paranormal and delicious. I love voice actors so much and archivists are hot. Becoming something you didn't choose and dealing with the repercussions of no longer really being human is so !!!!!!! I love it when people just go through the horrors. Everyone's voices scratch something in my brain that nothing else can reach. Brilliant piece of media.

What Remains of Edith Finch - Game wildcard. Semi-sandbox semi-railroad narrative. Gorgeous visual representations of so many difficult things in life. Particularly, the bit where one of Edith's family members loses himself to his own imagination is so gorgeous and heartbreaking. I have written essays on the cinematography of this game. It is so beautiful. Whether you lay it or watch a playthrough, you have to witness this.

TGM Dæmons

Has anyone done the obligatory 'what would their dæmon be if they existed in the world of His Dark Materials' for TGM? No one has done this shitpost yet? Well here are my theories.

Obviously they're gonna have to be birds because if you're getting ejected from a plane you need a dæmon that stands a chance of following you otherwise it (and you) are dead. Also, are fighter pilots the witches of our universe? Maybe. Hence birds. I don't make the rules. Also, I love birds.

Here we go with this shitpost no one asked for (reposted for the 1000th time bc my account hates TGM tags):

Cooper's Hawk (Chicken hawk) - This guy is in a bit of a war with himself, so what better dæmon than one that is known to fight his own call sign. It's not the most noble bird of prey but it's a scrappy survivor and to many, a complete unrelenting nuisance. Everyone else is at the Hard Deck in their well-pressed uniforms and their well-preened dæmons and this guy shows up in a Hawaiian shirt with a scrawny chicken hawk dæmon that looks like it's been through a hurricane. She's small but f*ck with Bradley and she'll f*ck your dæmon up good, even if she's not the fastest or the biggest dæmon out there.

Peregrine falcon - of course it's a peregrine falcon. "The fastest bird on the planet," Jake reminds everyone. "The fastest animal on the planet" his dæmon reminds him. As soon as his dæmon had settled into this form as a pre-teen Jake knew it was a sign that he was meant to be the best pilot of his generation. She's as arrogant as he is and uses her speed and maneuverability to pester the life out of his rivals' dæmons. None of them come even close to keeping up with her. She looks good on his shoulder. She looks very good.

Burrowing Owl - while everyone else's dæmons perch proudly on their pilot's shoulder, Bob's is down by his ankles, peering uncertainly from the floor. She can fly, of course, but she prefers to keep a low profile, scampering after Bob on the tarmac on the way to their jet. She's shy, but she's also in the form of an animal that lives in colonies; she and Bob both need strong companionship and trust in their peers even if they aren't outwardly gregarious. Neither she or Bob are the type to go solo.

Shrike (Butcher bird) - this dæmon is small, like his human, and is often underestimated (also like his human). He's not a bird of prey and is often confused for a songbird, but make no mistake, he's just as much of a predator as the rest of them. Shrikes are known to impale their prey on spikes and thorns, and this little dæmon is just as unassumingly dangerous. Many other dæmons have been subject to the wrath of Natasha's protective 'butcher bird', and have learned to give him wide berth least they end up impaled on a spike somewhere.

Harris's Hawk - at first glance this dæmon looks like the archetype of a dæmon belonging to a fighter pilot - the lone raptor, solitary hunter relying only on itself for survival - but upon further inspection Javy's dæmon (and Javy himself) are very, very dependent on others. Harris's hawks (like Javy's callsign) are known to hunt in packs and their success is reliant on those around them. Javy falls into the roll of follower even if he likes to think he is the lone hunter like Jake's peregrine. His dæmon constantly needs to remind him that maybe it's not an altogether bad thing to fall in line and work cooperatively; in fact, that's where he excels.

Pied Kingfisher - it's usually a portent of success in the Navy if your dæmon is a water bird, especially one as adept an aquatic hunter as a pied kingfisher. Like her human, this dæmon is clean cut and precise. Very precise, a perfectionist even. A pied kingfisher can nearly hover in air before a strike and there's a longstanding joke among Rueben's friends that his dæmon was probably a sign he should have been a helicopter pilot. As a result he has to spend the rest of his career trying to prove them wrong by being the very best at what he does.

Blue Jay - Mickey's dæmon takes the form of a bird that begins its life black and only grows into its signature blue as it matures. Like his changeable dæmon, Mickey took the long route to becoming a WSO, starting as a pilot and working his way to the backseat. This dæmon is sharp-witted and unafraid to administer a sharp peck to the back of an unsuspecting head if she wants someone to listen to her human. The reliable blue jay is often the first bird in the vicinity to sound the alarm and alert surrounding animals to an incoming danger. All in all she is the perfect dæmon for a backseater.

European Magpie - this dæmon took the form of an animal that is much too clever for its own good. Unnervingly smart and attracted to the bright and shiny things in life, Pete and his magpie dæmon are two of a kind; and are constantly getting into trouble for it. While he is mischievous and intelligent, he is not enough of an outright assh*le to have had his dæmon settle into an Australian magpie. He has to have had a little decorum to have gotten where he is.

Goose - his dæmon is a goose. Duh.

KHOC WEEK 2022 DAY 1: APPEARANCE

Bonus Round

So, I've been alternating between being sick (nothing serious, just bad allergies) and being stumped for how to approach OC Week this year, which means I got exactly zero Prep done ahead of time 😅. I do have a lady I'd like to talk more about this year, someone we haven't seen since a small appearance or two in the very first OC Week, and I do plan to try to get some stuff done later tonight, though if I don't get new stuff done I'll be sharing some old stuff for various OCs that I don't think I've put on Tumblr yet throughout the week. In that vein, just so you guys aren't high and dry in the mean time, I'm gonna share some of my Keykids with you all, since I have some references for them on hand. Consider this a bonus.

One thing to note is that none of these kids suffer the Canon fates of the KHUX kids, and in their storyline the main character role was filled by an acquaintance of theirs called, well, M.C. 😅 gonna try to keep these descriptions somewhat brief, but don't be afraid to ask questions if you want to know more!

RIE

Rie's story is... Complicated... Mostly because I've never decided exactly where I want to go with it. She's just such a flexible character that I greatly enjoy playing with different scenarios with her, haha. Some things that always stay the same is that she's a strength based Keyblade Weilder from the Vulpes Union, she ends up separated from her best friends at the end of KHUX, and, just as we see many other familiar keyblades in the hands of keykids, Rie was a previous Kingdom Key weilder. She's very protective of her two best friends, and she just might have a soft spot for a certain rose boy. She gets two "Adult" looks to represent different versions of her story, and in certain outcomes both could appear.

In certain outcomes of her story she ends up on a familiar set of Islands, in others she becomes a keyblade master. In some others she has children, and in yet another kind she gets thrown to the future to help our dearly beloved cast. In the ones she has children in she begins a family line that results in some familiar faces.

PAX

Pax's story is more simple. He's a magic based keyblade weilder and one of Rie's two best friends. He's very quiet and bookish, and he falls head over heels for Ephermer. At the end of KHUX he and his two friends get separated, tossed across the worlds by a chaotic burst of energy when their path home gets destroyed. He does end up reuniting with Ephermer at least, and the two spend the rest of their days together. His (currently unnamed) keyblade has a staff form change that he prefers over the traditional sword form.

Wisteria

Ah Wisteria... Believe it or not, I've teased her before. It's her journal that Echo finds and starts translating Sister AU [link] She's also the third member of Rie and Pax's trio. She's another magic based keyblade weilder (Rie has her hands full acting as their tank, lemme tell you) and she has a deathly fear of being forgotten. She normally keeps a bright and bubbly exterior, but underneath the poor thing is often a walking bundle of nerves. When she gets separated from her two best friends at the end of KHUX she ends up in the newborn world of The Refuge [link] along with a small handful of other people who've lost their homes for various reasons. Being the kind person she is she can't help but reach out to help her fellow castaways and ends up becoming a leader in the small town that soon forms. Her Keyblade, Comet Tail, has a bow form change.

There is one AU in which the gang gets to come back together, and they all end up becoming Masters in the newly created Scala ad Caelum. This is one of the AUs in which Rie has her children and the trio plus Ephermer raise them as a big happy family. Here's a look at the kiddos, Natsuki and Tomomi.

Model Kit Build: "Mrs. Loheng-Rinko" by Bandai

Yesssss! I've been wanting to build this kit the moment I saw the box the first time years ago.

If you squint real hard, you may see a traditional anime-style space battleship, and that's just what they were going for! It's a battleship, but also... a gorgeous Captain lady.

What it is is amazing, I tell ya.

This was the first thing my eyes darted to when I opened the box. Welp, that's creepy as hell. Haha.

This is the first model I've built that had... eye and eyebrow sockets. The eyes are like this because there are a ton of different-looking options you can swap out.

Funny enough, this isn't even the eye option I was going for, but I didn't realize it until I had already solidly placed the first eye down and I thought it looked really cute anyway, so I went ahead with the matching one.

Obligatory torso shot, seeing as how I apparently include one in every build post. It's just a great checkpoint, I suppose.

Decision time - Plastic butt or rubber butt?

This is the first model I've ever built that had rubber pieces! Only her skirt is rubber, and I guess that's to make sure it keeps shape no matter which way she's bending.

The plastic butt is what I need, though, because it's a necessity to put her on the included base(kind of like a seat) in the pose I'm aiming for. The front of the skirt will still be rubber, though.

I didn't take a ton of progress pics because this model was super easy and I just kind of forgot to pause now and then.

Here's a shot of her with all of the battleship gear on - I'm pretty impressed she can balance with all this shit on, honestly, haha.

She has a more "human" looking option that includes loafers for shoes, no turrets in the knees, and, you know, no spaceship parts. But where's the fun in that?

Let's get right to it - Fully built and posed on the included stand! I have her somewhat in the same position as on the box, because again, I really dug it at first site.

I'm blown away - She's incredible!

I also tried a new technique rather than the "clumsy gaijin nipping parts directly from the sprues" technique I have used up to this point. I now clip the branches around the part (like professional builders do) and then do a quick twist to set the parts free.

I had almost zero jaggies or stretch marks. It took longer, but it was so, so worth it. Cleanest build I've ever done, by far.

A back and side shot so you can see all of the battleship equipment on her. What a dope design!

And here are the rest of the peepers that will sit lonely on this sheet, maybe forever.

I was originally going to use 3 and 4. Ah well.

The ones on the right look like some Sonic the Hedgehog shit.

Welp, that's all for this one! The next one I'm putting together is probably the silliest and girliest one yet. And that's saying something! Stay tuned.

About to watch S20E31 "Child in Your Shadow", which has no John unfortunately but it does have lots of Henrik. The downside is most of the Henrik stuff is focused on him being "in love" with Roxanna, but there is the lovely "but you're happy?" scene with Dom and the very interesting conversation he has with Roxanna about religion.

Edit 1: Have to say I laughed at this line from Jac to Fletch: “When did you become so middle class?”

Also - “didn’t you used to be a mechanic?” I wonder if Holby remembers that too, Jac.

And that’s also really weird given that Henrik and Jac were around for both storylines, John was there when the Fletch’s dad stuff went down, there’s Sacha whose daughter Rachel was abused... how do you have characters with those backstories and then also write stuff like this?

queencember day 23 (past)

it feels weird to post such lengthy non-art content on here but listen. listen. SOMEONE had to sort out the weird spade family history. and i. have decided. to give my opinions. because - you probably did not known this, it might be a surprise - i love them. and i have been thinking about this for three months. it’s funny I post this for queencember because admittedly queen is only in a solid half of this, it covers four characters and the relationships between them, but i don’t know under what other circumstances i’d post this and it’s definitely way too much to draw at once. i suppose it’s prone to change if i hear any Better Takes or if something interesting comes up in canon, the game isn’t done yet after all, but also this just. feels like stuff that isn’t going to get covered lmao

so here we go. four god damn pages of headcanons under the cut. a couple of them i did not come up with or have modified, and a couple of them i might have mentioned in tags or art before. there are also a couple light canon contradictions but this is what amuses me most in my head so A Few Sacrifices Must Be Made... these are just my own headcanons so if you disagree with anything that’s perfectly fine and valid 💙

The entire post-lightner abandonment section might as well be called “the fanfics went STRAIGHT to my head”

Obligatory set-up notes:

King starts as moderately less of an angry asshole, for the record. Still an angry asshole but not Nearly as bad as post-abandonment and post-knight king. He’s someone you wouldn’t mind working under... that much.

Queen is still queen of the cyber world. She is not originally from the card kingdom.

Rouxls did tutorials before he did puzzles. The puzzle makers, after being fired, took up making tutorials. Why would that be a feasible option? Because the guy who made them took their jobs and the position is open. Checkmate.

Pre-Lightner Abandonment

Queen is, in the light world, a library computer. Computers are mobile. Sometimes she’s loaned out to other locations. Relative to the dark world, this means her disappearing for weeks, maybe months at a time, on “Vacations/Business Trips/Jaunts/ETC”. (i don’t know if she has any advisors or anything but i like to think she lets swatch & the swatchlings run things on autopilot for her when this happens)

At some point she is loaned to the old classroom for an unspecified amount of time. (I can’t tell if this is funnier if it all happens over like, three weeks, or if this was a whole semester or even school year. Unspecified it is.) She acquaints herself with her fellow royals and, in-particular, befriends the King of Spades.

Now at first, they actually get along pretty well! Mutual admiration of power and status, the intrigue in the perspectives of royals from another kingdom, they both care about their subjects... Queen is funny and charismatic and endearingly dumb sometimes, also hot, and King is intimidating but out of the public eye he’s notably nice and even sweet in this reserved, affectionately awkward kind of way. A little rough around the edges, sure, but I’m sure he’s not secretly worse or anything! 🙃

They’re friends, eventually there’s some flirting. King likes her more than she likes him (and she does like him! just not as much,,,) but she knows she’s not staying here for long so might as well have some fun before she goes back home! Sure Let’s See Where This Goes

They’re dating, they’re married, making her officially a Queen of Spades, a child is spawned* - you know when a couple moves too fast so then they settle down and try to be serious and realize they don’t actually like the other person?? Yeah. She uh. Didn’t mean for it to get this far.

* I think darkner biology works differently?? I cannot elaborate but I don’t think Lancer exists by traditional means. He also might. I don’t know. LOUD shrug emoji. BUT, by whatever means he does exist, he is related to the both of them.

They are both far too stubborn for this to work out. Queen is an eccentric nightmare to live with who can’t take things seriously. King is a lazy brute with a short temper. They mutually cannot handle each other for more than a couple hours every day, and now they live together.

Divorce time, babey! They do not like each other at this point but it’s Queen who serves the papers. Happens just in time for her loan to be up, and she’s returned to the library. She is not returning with a baby in tow. Enjoy the free spawn, King!

He needed a heir anyway this is fine

Lancer isn’t any older than a few months when this happens, maybe even younger, which is why he doesn’t remember her. King does not talk about her, ever. Actually I think so much as mentioning her is grounds for imprisonment, or private execution if it were in front of Lancer.

King is much too busy to parent a kid alone, and the servants are ill-equipped for this. You know what’s good at teaching people things and helping them?? Tutorials. They literally have a tutorial guy. That’s his whole thing!

This is where Rouxls comes in, beyond being someone the King is only vaguely aware of. He dumps responsibility of Lancer onto him and he is less than thrilled about this, but he is a suck up to anyone above him and a huge coward. Telling the King “no” is a good way to end up in a cell on a good day, and the dude’s fresh off a divorce rn. So. Baby-sitting duty it is. It’s not like he’s needed for literally anything else, he is notorious for being next to useless. (“Oh being of use for a change, and to someone as important as the King himself and his own son… maybe this won't be so bad.”)

Whenever this all happens it was the final year the classroom was used, so it almost immediately leads into…

Post-Lightner Abandonment

King Is Fucking Pissed!

He is trying to convince the other kings to take action, do something, blah blah No Talk Him Angy

Rouxls is raising Lancer. King checks on them when he has time, which is not often. He ends up befriending Rouxls by extension.

Rouxls is still a pathetic suck up but he is a dumb and sweet pathetic suck up and oh no, that’s cute. His shenanigans are, to the King, a nice and even welcome change of pace from both the stress of running a kingdom, and dealing with the whole “aaa the lightners abandoned us” thing. and the whole “my wife left me” thing. ... ok dude’s got a lot going on. Also he’s… decent? With his son? I won't lie he is not winning any awards but he is Good Enough™

(I am sensing a pattern. The King likes dumb funny people.)

Bit of a slow burn here but his visitations increase and they’re boyfriends eventually.

I saw Chapter 1 three years ago and immediately assumed King & Rouxls were like an actual couple and that just stuck in my head forever sorry

rouxls needs attention and to be valued, has hopeless amounts of love to give, and is attracted to power. king has power, enjoys praise and affection, and is still capable of being just sweet enough to keep this dumb idiot wrapped around his finger. both of them are lonely. this works out somehow.

Literally all Lancer’s parents are bisexual I’m pretty sure it’s in the requirements when you sign up

It’s obvious who really raised Lancer. He doesn’t have a walk animation, likes making signs and writing, eats bugs, capitalizes Random Words for Emphasis, and just has some general similar flares for the dramatic that I feel he got from his ironically-titled Lesser Dad? He’s really silly too, unlike King but very much like Rouxls! (… and his mother! 🤔) There are some other things I can’t remember but like. It’s clear who at least tried to do the parenting here lmao.

King does kinda care about his son? Enough to do the Bare Minimum but not as much as Rouxls comes to. He’s the one Lancer goes to when he’s hurt or having a rough time because he’s... so much nicer and more understanding than King. King is really hard on him and generally not that great of a parent. Hardly even hangs out with him and doesn’t really get that kids are… small? And weak? And still learning about the world? He’s got some… rough parenting practices. But I'm sure that’s fine, it's just tough love, right? Right, guys?

Rouxls is so stupidly soft for this child but he is not about to admit it or be public about it because he doesn’t need another thing for people to dangle over his head when he is already viewed as pathetic and useless.

Post-Knight

King Has Fucking Lost It!

I do not like the king but I think about Toby saying the fountain was affecting him and Making Him Worse, like, too often. He already wasn’t great. Now he’s double not great.

Rouxls promoted officially to Duke Of Puzzles for reasons even I am not sure about. Seriously IDK why anyone thought that was a good idea.

So I’ve just decided to say it’s because They Are Boyfriends Your Honor and King wanted his funny little man to finally have a nice, high rank worth respecting. This is just about the last nice thing King does for either of his boys tbh.

(The “Rouxls is secretly super-powerful, being the rules card.” headcanon slots nicely in here as well if you look at it from the “I cannot have an easily influenced, borderline-god in easy access of anyone who wants to overthrow me or get in my way” angle.)

The “I Do Not (Publicly) Care About Lancer” shtick is cranked up to 11 as a result. And tbh he’s good at fooling people with it.

[benry voice] rouxls likes mean people. So King being Extra Crazy And Malevolent? That’s fine. Attractive, even. Until he and Lancer are hardly spared from it. Kinda sucks now, actually. But, he’s not about to give up his nice new high rank, or piss off King and lose his head, or abandon Lancer to his shit father, etc etc. So he just. Deals with it. It’s fun when it’s not happening to either of them, at least.

Lancer and Rouxls have always been a comfort to each other. But especially right now 8′)

King has never viewed his son as more of a tool before. This six year old is just another thing to use to get what he wants.

This six year old also doesn’t entirely understand what's happening or he might actually hate King more. He is too busy being Baby and seeking a glint of affection or approval from his dad to really care, though.

Post-CH2

Rouxls broke up with king first chance he got lmfao Time For New Employment (And A New (Boy/Girl)friend/Partner?)

(you know what else i think about too much. it wasn’t enough for rouxls to be queen’s #1 peon. he was trying to get with her. and that feels like one more point for team “rouxls also likes dating his evil overlords” thank u very much)

The more King slowly comes off his evil-fountain-high the less pleased he is about the above development. Oooof he misses his weird little man. Cry some more you evil little hamster man. Sulk in your stupid little cell.

Queen is here again and more responsible. Lancer is hers now she’s not messing around this time.

Re: The game dialogue about Queen arbitrarily deciding she was his mom - I would argue, in the right context, particularly this one, that the king is referencing how she'd left them originally. She arbitrarily picked up the title, that doesn't mean she didn't have a claim to it before.

I will not elaborate on their relationship because I like playing (and will be playing) with conflicting takes at the same time (one-sided? requited but not officially acted upon/furthered? dating?), thus I don’t have any one solid headcanon here, but regardless, every take has the same ending - Queen does Not let it go anywhere official, because she’s not going to risk Something Happening and making the co-parenting situation Awkward. Can’t ruin a relationship you don’t have! Sorry rouxls lmao but it’s ok he gets over it

(i Do still stand by that there are multiple ways to read them and they’re all funny but My Favorite One Has Changed) i don’t think she’s ever had a serious relationship before. she is Fully aware of what a dick move it would be to waltz in, claim to be lancer’s mom girldad, just to get distracted and kiss his (other) dad, break his (other) dad’s heart, and then fuck back off. Again. She’s very dedicated to doing right by lancer, so... there might be A Minute There where she’s not really doing right by rouxls, whether or not he realizes that in his blind quest to get Any Scrap Of Attention At All. but it all sorts out eventually dw only happy endings for these fools as that is what they deserve. alright back to the rest of the post the way it was originally written --

Lancer kinda misses his dad and hopes he gets better soon but for now he has two Other cool dads so it’s fine and wowie neither of them yell at him or make stupid rules or forget to feed him!!!

Said other two dads are good at being civil but REALLY like spiting the King and semi-affectionately pissing him off. Mostly Queen. Rouxls is still a coward, even facing a dejected man behind bars, and also still has a small soft spot for him From The Old Times. (Also he doesn't want to burn that bridge completely) … That is not to say he doesn’t willingly participate in Queen’s spite, or that he doesn’t occasionally Go Off on King for his shitty behavior towards his son.

To be fair his motivations for Willingly Participating In Her Spite is like 98% just to be on the receiving end of her affections

He will participate in many flavors of shenanigans if it means any sort of interaction with her but ESPECIALLY romantic ones, even if she’s just doing it as a joke or to annoy someone else. Context doesn’t matter just Let It Happen Please 👉👈

Basically, Lancer has two cool dads now who love him very much and King is in jail. If he gets out he is Not invited to the Cooler Spade Family.
