"His exhale was harsh on her lips.
She refused to look at his.
In a surge of pure Gryffindor courage, Hermione straightened, but did nothing to change the distance between them. “Who cares, Draco?” she murmured, letting her nose skim the tip of his.
His arms came up on either side of her, locking her to the railing. He took a step closer, if that was even possible. “You’re going,” he breathed lowly, “to get yourself killed.”
She was drunk on him, on his forearms barring her waist, on his quiet rage at her.
She had barely tilted her head up when he pulled her into him and took her mouth as his.
He became everything. The blood in her veins, the thread of her clothing, the star-soaked breeze enveloping them both."
I have no words. @incendiosketches has truly outdone herself. I've received so much support with Obliviate, and I'm so excited to see where this goes. This artwork is from Chapter 13 of Obliviate - Draco and Hermione's first kiss, at 3am in the Astronomy Tower as Theo and Blaise are covered in paint and asleep on the floor. I've dreamed of this for years, and I'm finally able to see it with my own eyes.
The detail!! The moonlight! The paintbrush in her hair, the ring, the pattern of his pants!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jane. You are incredibly talented. Everybody go show her some support!!

obliviate. - a jegulus au by mars.
kinda long so bear with me! so this starts basically in james' second year and reg's first.
"my brother's going to be sorted this year" sirius tells him proudly and james looks as eager as him cause if sirius was this AMAZING to be around, then surely his brother must be the same. and then he's sorted! 'regulus black' - and james sees the similarities immediately,, dark hair, watercolor eyes oh hell he's cute
and in the middle of james' comparison, regulus is sorted into slytherin, putting a barrier between the brothers and a stop to prongs' thought process ab baby black bc at 12, he had that ideology that slytherin was a bad house and regulus was not at all similar to sirius but ofcourse yk time changes everything
third year, he spends more time in the library. regulus does too. mostly silent, pouring over his books. james wonders why he looks so small and vulnerable
fourth year, regulus makes it onto the slytherin quidditch team as their third-year seeker and he's hella good at that, but never show-offy. james wonders why he doesn't like being centre of attention
fifth year, regulus has THE glowup. all baby fat gone, cheekbones that can cut through glass and a sharpass attractive jawline. and was his hair slightly longer too? james wonders why he's never noticed reg's smile before
sixth year, sirius starts talking to his brother more and they bond, spend more time together. regulus seems to notice james for the first time. james still sees the shy little first-year every time he looks at regulus
regulus has a sassy personality, he's mean, he's elusive, he rolls his eyes too much, but james can't see past the fact that his best friend's brother is fucking angelic. james is pretty sure regulus could get away with murder despite having blood on his hands
there's a party, there's laughter, there's drinking. and in the dim lights, the only thing james sees is regulus black because there's nothing more beautiful than watching the candleflames dance like shadows in his eyes, the ghost of pure joy in reg's smile
that year is james' favorite year. they talk, discuss quidditch strategies. when james sees regulus alone in the library, he pulls up a chair and sits with him. even though reg sasses him, he likes that. he learns regulus' favorite color when they're in honeydukes. he discovers regulus' love for astronomy during late-night hangouts. he counts the freckles on reg's face while they spend hot afternoons lying on their backs in the sun. he finds out how perfect their hands fit together like two halves of a whole
they're stupidly in love. regulus starts wearing turtlenecks and no one but remus can tell what the secret glances between james and regulus mean. sirius jokes about regulus hiding a vampire bite on his neck but remus knows it all
james is having the time of his life: secret boyfriend that he's head-over-arse in love with, his best friends, his family, his entire life set before him. everything he could ever wish for. and when sirius finds out, the worst he gets is a smack to the head with a shoe. well, that's the best it gets.
seventh year. regulus is distant, afraid. cheeks hollow, eyes darting, constantly on edge. james worries but never pushes too hard. they still go on dates, of course, but lesser than before - something is holding reg back. "i love you" james says and "i know" he gets in return. and that breaks his fucking heart bc he thinks he's not good enough for regulus. he thinks he's somehow making reg lose interest him and he doesn't want that so he does everything a bit more, tries hard, too hard. pushes himself past the limit.
and regulus can't look him in the eyes when he asks "what's wrong". the sleeve is pulled up, the mark shown, a look of betrayal and not one broken heart, but two. but james has never been one to give up. he tries to convince him but regulus is fixed on it. he doesn't want james to get hurt and live life without him but he doesn't realize that without regulus, james feels like he has nothing to live for.
that night, he's obliviated. that night, the marauders graduate from hogwarts. regulus has another year to come back to, but no james potter. his lifeline hanging by a thread as death and the consequences of his bad decisions loom closer. and james, well, he has his whole life ahead of him, doesn't he?
the paper is printed. the dark lord, vanquished. a young boy killed in service. james thinks he might've known him, seen him at hogwarts but nothing seems to click. he lets go.
james watches his friends get married. he shares their happiness yet, never once looks for his own. too busy as an auror, he makes an excuse - a reason to justify the restlessness of his heart. his friends grow worried.
james forgets a lot. he was once the boy that knew everyone's birthdays, their favorite colors, their everything by heart blindly. now he's a man that can't remember what day it is despite having looked at the calendar a moment before. he's a man that can't remember his own address sometimes. he's a man with strange fuzzy dream of a boy that looks like his best friend. a smile, stolen kisses in greenhouses, holding hands. he forgets his present a lot.
he grows old alone. surrounded by his friends' children. they say he has dementia, a muggle disease. he can't remember who he was sometimes. they wonder why he sits in his armchair in the middle of the night and stares out at the sky, waiting for something he can't remember.
he dies surrounded by his friends and family. it's peaceful, it's quiet. as he takes his final breath and his eyes flutter shut, he feels young again. he opens them again and there's a boy - sirius? no, can't be. he looks younger. an angel? must be. james thinks he's dreaming. the boy holds his hand out with a smile that james had once memorized.
"i'm sorry to make you wait, love."

Hermione did not obliviate her parents. She "modified their memories" (DH ch 6), but she did not use the first memory spell we encounter in the series - Obliviate (thanks, Gilderoy).
How do I know this? Well, in DH ch 9, the gang leaves Bill and Fleur's wedding, and take a pit stop at a muggle café to get their bearings establish a plan. At the café they are ambushed by Death Eaters who they manage to stun. As a precaution, Harry asks if anyone can perform an obliviation on the DEs, and Hermione said that while she had never used the obliviate spell, she knew the basic principle behind it.
So there you go, fanfic writers, Hermione's parents suffer from a memory charm, but done by a competent witch with a working wand, unlike in the case of Lockhart.

Why am I back when all I am now is memories ?
She was fussing around her tiny house trying to get ready for her date in time. She was going back and forth, searching for a comb, her favourite cherry lipstick, the heels she wanted to wear, all while trying to arrange her hair, thinking and wondering if she should take her leather jacket with her tonight or not.
After all, it was a hot day in June, but the weather could change really fast in England, hence the dilemma.
She was finishing her eye makeup when suddenly, all her teenage memories she thought were lost came back, flooding her mind with warmth, laughter, and pain, tears, grief, Lily, Marlene, with Peter and James...
"Harry !" She yelled, her mind back to almost 16 years ago, moments before Dumbledore Obliviated her when she tried to get his custody, knowing well that Lily's sister loathed wizards, and magic.
Then, the realization hit her, and she let herself fall on her knees, a hand still holding the bathroom's sink. She saw this happen to James, when he remembered Regulus and his relationship, after three years of denial when the youngest became a Death Eater. The Slytherin Obliviated James to protect him.
Mary was there the day he died, she saw the moment where the future dad recovered all his memories, and the destroyed look on his face when he understood what it meant.
She started to laugh on her bathroom's floor as the information sank in. That old man was finally dead. He finally kicked the bucket.
She could finally be with the rest of her friends that are -hopefully- alive.

It's depressing Marauders headcanon time!
I heard once that the human brain can't make up faces. So when you dream about people, they're always faces you've seen before.
Imagine Mary Macdonald after the first Wizarding War, dreaming vividly of faces she's sure she's never seen before...
Faces she doesn't remember seeing.

Tumblr, I need your help!
I'm looking for a fanfiction about Remus Lupin that I read a few years ago, I think in 2019 or 2020.
The story takes place after Hogwarts, and Remus encounters a former student in a café. The plot twist is that Remus used to date her, but had to obliviated her and erased every single memories of them because he had inadvertently put her in danger one full moon night, and it had almost ended badly.
So, he had distanced her from all his friends in the process (Lily, James, Sirius and co). Naturally, their new encounter revives feelings that put the whole team in a delicate situation regarding the young woman.
I thought I had it in my favourites, but I can't find it. I've searched through the masterlists of all the accounts I'm subscribed to, without success.
It seems to me that in the title, there was "Oblivion" or "Obliviate." (It's not the fanfiction "Obliviate" by Coffee--writes)
.Many thanks to those who will help me find it. Shares are welcome!

Hermione might as well have kept her parents’ memories altered.
And not restored them.
Imagine that you’re married and your only daughter erases your knowledge of her existence to go on a noble, world-saving quest with her two best friends. She puts more importance on that than on her own life. Than on how you would have felt if you knew what she had done.
If your child does something like that, would you actually be proud? Or rather, incredibly saddened or disappointed or perhaps even angered, and wished that your memory stayed modified?
Hermione is a witch and her parents are Muggles. They belong in two separate worlds. In my opinion, it’s easier to just stick to one.
I love Hermione as a character and think she’s brilliant, but the fact that she chose the magical world over her own family… not wrong, very Gryffindor-honourable and courageous, but really goes to show where her priorities lie and how she was logical to the point of being somewhat cruel, and that she was willing to risk her parents possibly losing their only child to a world they cannot access.

"It's all my fault. She had nothing to do with this."
"She has everything to do with this."
"Please, Tom. Please. I love her. She didn't know. Tom, no-."
"Obliviate."
She had never seen a man so striking.
The hazy grey rain seemed to avoid him, an aura radiating from him as if he could command the elements. A frisson of energy coursed through her, settling deep in her belly- a ghost of a past stolen in the accident.
"Are you lost?"
"In a fashion."
That voice tugged at her misty memory.
"Do I know you?"
"I shouldn't think so."
She regarded him carefully, his answers seeming.. off.
"Care to wait out the rain inside?"
"I don't mind the rain."
"Stay awhile."
A sigh.
"As you wish."
Watching him settle in her thatched roof cottage, she felt he fit right in. Which was odd - no one felt at home among her chaos. He moved through her kitchen with practiced ease.
"You've been here before."
"Yes."
"You know me."
"I did."
"You're the reason I ache."
He didn't respond. Perhaps that was all the answer she needed.
"How long can you stay?"
"Until the memory hits."
As she went to ask him what that could possibly mean, a sharp pain stabbed her left temple, leaving her gasping.
He caught her before she hit the stone floor, carrying her to the sofa and laying her with a gentleness that betrayed his every emotion. Settling her against the cushions, he whispered apologies in her hair. She couldn't form a question before she heard it.
"Obliviate."

I am toying with the idea of building this one out more, but I have no solid plans yet

headcanon: obliviate isn't complete memory erasure. its result and power depends on the target memory, the human subject, and the power of the castor. the spell doesn't always erase the memory, but can also bury it or hide it.
every memory has emotion and other events tied to it. the stronger the emotion, and the more powerful/relevant/important it is to the person, the harder it is to get rid of. some of this is conscious, some not. a bad memory that you want to get rid of will be easier to obliviate than a good memory tied to powerful emotion or important life event (like a wedding or good times with your friends/family).
the people involved matter too! the person being cast upon has ties to the memory. if that person tends to be super in tune with their emotions and generally feels strongly, their important and valuable memories will be hard to erase. if the person doesn't give much weight to the majority of their memories, the memories will have weaker ties to the person and therefore be easier to obliviate.
the castor is important! a strong witch/wizard will be able to use obliviate more effectively (like aurors over the average hogwarts student) (also how comfortable you are with the spell/how frequently you use it). the bond of the wizard and wand also matters, like with any spell. with a strong enough wizard and enough emotion within the castor (the castor's willingness and emotions matter too!), a powerful/important memory can be almost entirely buried.
example: lockhart! his memory was entirely erased, and as far as we know, it never returned. we know that he was particularly skilled at obliviate, so it makes sense that the spell was powerful. ron's wand (which he used) was also malfunctioning, causing uneven distributions of power (although he didn't have a bond with it, basically nobody did at this point). when considering lockhart's life story, it's likely that he wanted a chance at a new life, somewhere inside (just being optimistic here...). if you add all this together, you get his situation! he also doesn't seem like the type to value his memories in a sentimental way, nor the type to worry about emotions (both for himself and for others).
and that's it! if you got this far, here's a heart ❤️
