Please Help Me Find This Mysterious Song
Tumblr, I do not do this often, but please please can you help me with this? I know you are better than other websites who have all failed me so far... For many years I have been looking (alas, in vain) for a certain song. Very likely a novelty one, though I do not know – I have never caught its name nor the name of the singer. I heard it once or twice on a radio station which only aired retro songs, so it was probably from 1960–80s. Now this one song was sung from a first-person perspective – the singer (almost as desperate as I am) was a classical violinist who longed to be a rock n roll star, which is what he soulfully crooned in the refrain. It was a fun, bittersweet song and always reminded me of Kinks stylewise (though it is very likely not their song).
Nobody seems to know this song, no website or forum dedicated for searching for lost songs has ever helped me, whenever I type in the snippets of the lyrics I remember (for example, something like "the duke told the duchess that he thought that I had talent, the duchess winked at me and said Oh yes, it's quite apparent"), Google pretends it has never heard of it. But I know it exists (I have a witness who heard it with me) and I MUST find it. I will not have peace to die until I find this song. I will continue haunting this Earth as a mournful wraith unless I find it, which is a distressing notion.
Do you have any idea what it might be?
(My eternal gratitude for reblogs.) EDIT (30/11/2023): I think I might have lead all of you astray with the focus on duke and duchess. They are not that important, really. The singer himself, his desire to be a rock n roll star while he is stuck playing classical violin is the important part. But thank you all and please keep this post going, maybe someone will remember what godforgotten old song this is...

16 Bit - Changing Minds (Video, 1987)
A music video featuring the Amiga and its graphics, from the German band previously known as Off and later renamed Snap!. You can watch it here.
The term 'changing minds' clearly isn't being used in the usual sense here.

Some of my favorite Lostwave Songs - Solved and Unsolved
For those looking for cool obscure music, lostwave is your friend! Don't mind me geeking out about unidentified or previously unidentified music aaa!
Solved -
Making Dedication by First Person - Probably my favorite lostwave song period. Beautiful lyrics. I found it took me a few listens before I really started appreciating it.
Cyan Daze by Chimera - THIS SONG IS ABSOLUTELY SLAMMIN' IT'S SO GOOOOOOD.
L.A. Woman by P.J. Marcus - If I had a nickel for every time I really loved a song called "L.A. Woman", I'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
The Livin' and the Dyin' by Jim Dawson - Really beautiful song and an early lostwave solve!
On the Roof by Johan Lindell - The original "most mysterious song on the internet". Absolutely slammin'.
Traveling Minstrel by Richard Torrance - No fish.
Bird On a Wing by Rare Bird - Absolutely bangin' song, lovin' this dude's voice.
Common Hound by The Blind Venetians - Another early lostwave solve and absolutely awesome song.
Early in the Morning (Demo Version) by Excalibur - Much better than the final version imo. This song makes me feel like a 80s wizard shooting lightning out of his hands, which is extremely high praise if you ask me.
Little Islands by The Gallery - Great song with an emotional story behind its search. I'm so happy it's finally solved.
Ready n' Steady by D.A. - Not a unidentified song but a lost song! Well, now it's found but you get the idea. Deserved a release imo.
George Sand by Antonia and the Operators - Bangin' song. I wish there was more by this band they're so good honestly???
Organ by Jon Lord - This was solved in like 10 seconds but still worth putting on here. I love a good neo-classical piece.
Unsolved -
"The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet" - You know I had to put this here.
"Fond My Mind" - Another classic lostwave song. They gotta solve this and TMMS eventually right? RIGHT???
"Wait Forever" - Very ethereal sounding. I really love this one. It's possibly by a German band called the In Tensions or the Intentions but there's no record of them anywhere online?
"Deluded" - Probably one of my favorites. This song SLAPS. The vocalist's performance is delightfully unhinged.
"Baby It's Not Too Late" - Song from an... *ahem* adult film, that's absolutely slammin'. A lot of vintage porn has great music for some reason??? Unfortunately this is likely unsolvable.
"I'm Almost In Love" - Another vintage porn song. This song has an absolutely awesome saxophone and keyboard part??? Also I have no idea why Barni used a picture of some pandas but I'm not complaining. Unfortunately this may be unsolvable.
"Losing My Patience" - Possibly from a porn film??? It's got that energy. I love the guitar solo here.
"Fly Away" - Another famous lostwave, this time from Japan! Despite the slightly unnerving tone, the lyrics are quite mundane???
"Light the Lanterns" - Sometimes called "The Third Most Mysterious Song on the Internet". I love the surreal lyrics.
"Writing from the Train" - Underrated lostwave song. Switches between two different languages for some reason???
"One More Chance" - I really like this one because I feel it has vintage anime vibes for some reason???
"Cat Swimming Guitar Solo" - Awesome guitar solo and Barni put a picture of a cat swimming for some reason, so exactly what it says on the tin!
There's so many more lostwave songs I wanna gush about so I might do a part 2???

listen up everyone because you are missing out on a seriously glorious part of life that you shouldnt be missing out on and that glorious part of life is the album winter by purl
Tumblr media
droning, repeating melodies that become more distorted and corrupted as the album goes on, but no matter how distorted it becomes, the soft repeating guitar patterns consistently sound gentle and comforting as if it is guiding you through this experience. the other instruments become eroded over the course of the album, jarring you just a little only for the guitar to provide what feels like a familiar warm hug and pull you back in. the album is calm and even a bit repetitive until track ten, after which the entire project takes a turn for the surreal. it dissects your brain.
one of my favorite things about this album is that while a lot of other experimental albums insist on pushing the listener out of their comfort zone - sometimes to the point of overstimulation, this album taps into deep feelings perfectly without relying too heavily on grating distortion. the best of part of it, to me, is that there are no words. i tend to stop liking certain projects or artists as i get older and can no longer relate to the lyrics, but with winter that doesnt worry me because the fact that there are no lyrics means that the album tells whatever story you need to hear the most at the time of listening. its intimate.
there is very little information on this group or person, which is sad since this album has been out since ‘96 and the purl spotify page and band camp pretty much sit barren. im almost sure i found one of the members or the soul member of purl, who i will be attempting to interview soon. it really is a shame to me that so many people are missing this masterpiece.
anyone could enjoy this album and everyone who listens will have a different experience with it, a personalized experience. it succeeds in reaching inside of you and rearranging your soul. please listen to winter by purl.

Why are Grandfather Clocks Called That?
Tumblr media
Have you ever wondered why grandfather clocks are called grandfather clocks? Probably not, but there's an interesting story behind it! Invented in the late 1600s, these clocks used to mainly be referred to as 'longcase clocks'. In 1876, however, composer Henry Clay Work published the song 'My Grandfather's Clock', and they have been called grandfather clocks ever since! The lyrics of the song are more spooky than the title may suggest! The narrator recollects their grandfather's clock and how it mysteriously stops working the moment their grandfather dies. The clock seems to be connected to the grandfather somehow, knowing about important life events like marriage (and death).
My favorite cover of this song is the one by Johnny Cash: (spotify link) (youtube link), but it's also cool to listen to older versions, like this one from 1905! (link)
If the tune sounds familiar to you, you might be a FNAF fan! 'My Grandfather's Clock' is the song used for the marionette's music box that you wind up in FNAF 2. (and also apparently in the credits of the FNAF movie... i still need to watch that lol) Honestly this song is pretty fitting to use in a horror game, since it's about death.

Day 9 of talkin about my upcoming album, "Ganymede Gives Up The Ghost"!
Today's song was the second single I released from this album, "To Fall From Great Heights".
While this is the final installment of the story of Our Hero (for now 😉), it's actually the one I wrote first, before I knew I was going to make it a whole 3 part series! For anyone who doesn't know, I have a major fear of heights, so whenever l'm in a particularly dark headspace, the title of this song is the phrase that pops into my head.
Narratively, Nuestra is at the end of her rope, grappling with her role in protecting a city that rejects her. She stands atop a skyscraper looking down on the hatred and abuse that just never stops. She's high, scared, and searching for a tether.
Metaphorically, this song is about the defeat one feels as a trans person. You come out strong, you fight the fight and... then what? You get tired. If you're lucky, maybe you even get old. What did all that fighting do?
Sure, you could do without the people you cut out, they're bigots, but in the process, a lot of other people saw that fighting and just quietly left your life.
I cover the conclusion of that idea in tomorrow's song, so don't wallow too hard in despair, Dolls. This song is a snapshot in time.
Some lyrics:
"Say no more, sneakers sliding out the door
We are blessed to be a burden, you are cursed to be a bore
Sick Kids gawk, "Pull the trigger, then we'll talk!"
It's a gift to be more vibrant than the sidewalk chalk"
Can you relate to this part of the coming out process? What’s your biggest fear? Let me know!
