So this is just an amalgamation of thoughts I had in the Camp Here and There server, but I believe that Elijah Volkov has Borderline Personality Disorder.
This post is not meant to demonize BPD, I understand how stigmatized it is and have it myself. But I do think Elijah fits the criteria. We obviously don’t get to hear his inner thoughts, but his actions point to someone whose identity revolves around one person. Someone who can’t deal with abandonment, who has impulsive and self-destructive behavior, someone with extreme mood swings, anger, detachment from reality, etc.
Elijah and Sydney’s relationship is clearly unhealthy. Elijah is obsessed with Sydney to a harmful extent, and his treatment of him is awful. But Sydney is his favorite person. Take the lyrics to Your Body, my Temple;
You've got my whole world in your hands, got that little blue spot / And you really ain't got no idea how much this thing orbits you / Now, do you honey?
Sydney is Elijah’s entire world. He can’t live without him. He truly does love Sydney (though this love is toxic and his actions abusive). I mean, Elijah quite literally worships him. That’s undeniable. He puts him on a pedestal, and when Sydney rejects him, he wishes death upon him:
[He begins speaking extremely frantically, hyperventilating, all frenzy, his accent on full display] YOU — THE — YOU — I’LL KILL YOU — WHY AREN’T YOU DEAD!? MY MUSE — WHY AREN’T YOU DEAD!? MY MUSE — MY HEART! MY HEART! MY HEART — IT’S SCREAMING — SCREAMING — SCREAMING — MY HEART —
This is absolutely Elijah splitting on Sydney. Abandonment is one of the number one triggers for BPD episodes, and here we have a perfect example of that.
In his first episode (22), Elijah displays mood swings and anger outbursts. He slams his fists on the table, shouts, and gets upset whenever Sydney mentions Jedidiah, who he perceives as a threat to their relationship (and his plans in general). He has an inability to control his emotions, which is what drives his actions.
Another symptom of BPD that Elijah shows is self-harming behavior. He has little regard for his health or safety. In episode 33, he continues to read from the journals even though they physically pain him and sap his energy, and he does this for Sydney. He also risks his life on the pyre of his muse.
Elijah and Sydney even have parallels, with Elijah wanting to kill or die for the object of his affection, and Sydney wanting to be killed by someone or something that loves him. Sydney canonically has BPD, so I think they contrast each other very well, and even share presentations in some regards.
Elijah seems to show some detachment from reality, though it’s hard to tell with how strange the world of CHNT is. He is convinced that burning Sydney on a pyre will immortalize him. Is this true? Maybe. We just don’t know. But nobody else seems to think it’ll work, so I use it as an example of his eccentric beliefs.
The most debilitating symptom of Elijah’s BPD is his unstable and obsessive relationship with Sydney. There is something about having a favorite person that can make you want them dead. In anger, when you’re splitting on them, but sometimes in love. Sometimes you want to kill them while your relationship is at its best, just to preserve their memory, because then they can’t leave you. Because you want to keep your memories of them positive and you don’t want them to be tainted by a bad ending.
I believe Elijah thinks that way. He doesn’t want Sydney dead (not exactly), but he wants him to ascend. And isn’t that so similar?

elijah volkov is so interesting to me because like. i mean obviously there's the whole 'manipulative cult leader who tries to burn our mc on a pyre' shtick but like (until season 2 if he makes a comeback) we don't know what his whole deal is? like what the hell? i don't think he's a bad person. i don't think anyone in chnt is, i think the whole point is that the characters are flawed people with motives, ambitions, goals, and their own moral compass. obviously we can see those flaws more prominently in other characters (like for example jedidiah's treatment of sydney, the lack of communication there, and lucille's... lucille-ness) i do believe that he loved sydney, in his own fucked up way, and believed that burning him on the pyre would actually be 'good' in a way. i don't wanna go and immediately say it's some sort of delusion but it probably was that. like, i wonder if he's filled with the same religious fervour he imposes on others, because iirc in the episode where elijah and sydney have tea he says that the grandfather clock is the only 'safe' way he can view his reflection? which could imply if he looked in a mirror, or reflection in water or a window, he could. be. do. that? and also the whole. y'know. mirror thing in the last episode. but that wouldn't explain his obsession. but then again, maybe it's just that: an unhealthy obsession. back to his motives though, there's so much to take and run with, because, like, he stole from the kids at the camp for one. he refers to the things he took from the kids as 'tithes' which implies he sees himself as above them, which comes back to the whole cult leader thing. but then he just lets sydney take them back? so it was probably just to get his attention. god im overanalysing every little action man i cant believe its come to this i do understand the hate for him though. like the whole point is to hate him, right? cause he was 'toxic'? but by that logic we shouldn't like jedidiah, or even sydney, either, because they're both 'toxic' in their own rights.
but yeah i think he's a cool character. goofy as hell tho (i mean have you seen that drip?) and i hope we get to see him in season 2. anyways i actually have no idea if this makes any sense whatsoever lmk if it doesnt lol end ramble

I know we all talk a lot about missed opportunities in The Quarry. If you could make three specific changes (new paths, relationship tweaks, game mechanics, whatever, added or adjusted dialogue, whatever) to make it a better game and narrative, what would they be?
There’s soooo much other than what I said in my last post,  (I know you said top three 😩 but I hold all these equal):
1- Nick’s infection status being determinant.  Dude really drew the short stick in terms of screen time (maybe not the shortest but pretty close) because he’s taken out of the story so soon. I would really have liked to have the infection in chapter 3 alternate  between Abi and Nick depending on your choices. Like maybe when they’re talking in the woods and they hear the werewolf, you are given the option as Abi to either ‘run’ or ‘don’t move’ (with maybe a bit of dialogue before to muddy the choices “Is it a bear? Does that mean we should play dead?”), and if you ‘run,’ Abi gets infected instead of Nick. I would also just like… more of the counselors to turn in general?? The only ones that don’t are Abi, Ryan, and Kaitlyn… but I really wished we’d gotten that.
2- Have all the counselors act ‘negatively’ while they’re turning. We obviously get this with Nick (+Emma and Jacob to an extent), but I wish the game fully capitalized on the opportunity to make the other counselors a little more ‘wolfy’ when they’re turning. Particularly Dylan, Laura, and Kaitlyn. First of all: it would’ve been cool if Laura’s infection status was determinate so the game could provide some contrast to how she acts when she’s turning verses when she isn’t. Maybe when she’s not infected, she doesn’t get the opportunity to choke out Jedidiah, and she has noticeably less hostile dialogue options (compared to the ones she could potentially get while not infected). With Dylan—if infected at the radio hut—he gets ‘bitter’ and ‘aggressive’ dialogue options on his way to the scrapyard with Kaitlyn. As is already in the game: the two of them are talking about Ryan. He’s literally conversing with the other leg of the game’s love triangle (who the player may have chosen to kiss instead of him), and he’s lamenting about the fact Ryan ran off with another girl around an hour ago. I don’t know—it just feels like a missed opportunity to not have the dialogue between the two change depending on infection status (while still keeping everything in his ‘exploding’ scene in the crane the same). With Kaitlyn… it’s a little harder because she can literally only get infected in the last rung of the game. Maybe make her dialogue a little more snappish toward Dylan, and give her more reckless choices when fighting Caleb (more opportunities to initiate combat without the silver shell).
3- The final confrontation with Silas should’ve been in the lodge. They should’ve had a way to get Laura, Ryan, and possibly Travis (they should’ve also provided an opportunity to kill him in Hackett House without killing Ryan or Laura) back to the lodge. And depending on the infection status of the surviving counselors, the fight with Silas is either helped or hindered. Were Dylan and Kaitlyn infected? Cool, now you’ve got Silas plus two other werewolves to deal with—and you might not want to kill these ones. Did they lock Caleb in the fridge instead of killing him? Awesome, now a werewolf Nick (and possibly Jacob) are also trying to kill you! I think they could also provide an opportunity to make the time of infection matter. For example: I think Dylan canonically takes the longest to turn after he’s bit (it’s like… 4 hours?). If you have him infected in the crane rather than the radio hut, maybe that makes the fight a little easier because you can use him as a ‘human shield’ (that sounds awful lol). Or maybe the game provides an opportunity for Kaitlyn and Dylan to get infected by Caleb before locking him in the freezer, and now you’ve got two human shields. And of course, the rest of the uninfected counselors get an opportunity to reconvene at the lodge before the fight starts, perhaps paying homage to the final scene in Until Dawn? Perhaps??
Honorable mentions:
Have Max able to survive his swim to shore
Kaitlyn going with Laura to Hackett house
All of the counselors are able to turn by the end of the game
Laura and Max reunion (without killing Ryan)
Actual payoff to the Kaitlyn/Ryan/Dylan love triangle
More Abi and Emma (just… in general. They kinda become a side characters in the second half of the game—wish they had more to do while Kaitlyn and Dylan are in the scrapyard—would be cool to see a route that has the both of them taking on Caleb assuming the game then provides the ability to kill off both Kaitlyn and Dylan in the scrapyard)
Have a way to have Kaitlyn choose between taking Dylan or Emma to the scrapyard with her
Let Kaitlyn choose whether or not she takes Abi to the scrapyard if Dylan is killed by a werewolf Emma
More angst from Ryan after killing Chris. It’s kinda built up to be this big emotional thing and then he’s completely fine after.
Let Jacob tag along through the Hackett house with Ryan and Laura
Chase scene out of the scrapyard playing as Kaitlyn if Dylan turns inside the crane
An actual ending. Fuck that podcast. Should've gone the Until Dawn route but instead of the police interviews, it's a trial. And at the end, you find out if they were found guilty or not (or if everyone's dead, then you get the podcast. As punishment.)

can we get a jeddiecore song list
YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOUVE AWAKENED I LITERALLY AM CONSTANTLY WAITING FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABT RHE SONGS I ASSOCIATE W JEDIDIAH . anyways im gonna do songs that like .... Lyrically match but also try to align them with vibes . so even if some jhariah songs fit im not putting that on its not the right energy . yk . sorry u probably just wanted like a List but im abnormal about music i associate w jedidiah so ur getting a whole infodump hence why this took like a whole day to write </3
uhhhh starting off again . obviously love love love by the mountain goats the whole examination of the things ull do for love and examining whether thats romantic or somewhat horrifying????? SO fucking him . also the vibes just match perfectly the like sad soft voice and the whole quiet ambience .... literally how id embody him in a song . also lyrics like:
Tumblr media
this abt the ritual with love leading you into a "white and soundless place" (often how death is described) before "seeing each other face to face" (back to life and with him again) and:
Tumblr media
this abt his guilt afterwards??? the way that jedidiah killing and reviving sydney for love haunts him every day?????? goes fucking crazy . it fits so well to me its the jeddie song of ever
another tmg song hes just tmg coded BUT cry for judas is extremely him to me .... the themes of guilt overlayed w religion especially using judas as a comparison w sydney as a christ figure ... goes crazy . particularly
Tumblr media
this part at the beginning . it reminds me a lot of jedidiah avoiding sydney and hurting him and pushing away due to his own guilt as well as his self punishing behaviors plus obviously the themes of controlling time fit lol . i could overinterpret some other sections but i dont want to make this too rambling... but mainly this part makes me think of him and also lines like "sad and angry cant learn how to behave/still wont know how in the darkness of the grave" remind me of his weird lens of viewing sydney + the death themes that obviously call sydney to mind ...... also "some people crash two or three times and then learn from their mistakes/but we are the ones who dont slow down at all" reminds me of jedidiah projecting onto juniper and rowan who work out their issues easily and jedidiah who cant . i ramble
next up uhhhhh self esteem by ajj is basic sadboy music but yknow what . he would listen to basic sadboy music and i have intense lyrical analyses so if you call me on that then i will riot in the streets . anyway so the entire song is about like ..... avoiding other people out of guilt and shame and thats just him!!!! thats him baby . the repetition of this place has taken all my self esteem reminds me of his avoidance of sydney and the camp out of it reminding him of his guilt and shame but some more specific lyrics that remind me of him are
Tumblr media
reminds me of his refusal to leave his office because leaving means he'll see sydney and seeing sydney reminds him of his guilt . especially when paired w sydneys fear
Tumblr media
this part in PARTICULAR is extremely jeddiecoded!!!! to extremes!!!!!! reminds me of the contrast between college jeddie being scared of yvonne compared with jeddie not being able to handle talking to juniper bc he cant stop projecting his own guilt onto him . hes cray cray that way
Tumblr media
a: hes a pathetic little man <3 as well as reflecting his self hatred but let me be funny, b: the phrase "pathetic little dream" reminds me of lucille referring to sydney as his pet project in things like the patreon script preview of s2, and c: jedidiah simultaneously hates and longs for the concept of forgiveness so a song ending on that very note is insane to me
im not gonna include a proper analysis of trees and flowers by strawberry switchblade bc its REALLY more of a sydney song and putting it on a jeddiecore songlist would be evil bc of this but it fits a lil bit in my brain . the whole avoidance of the outside world and avoiding things you cant control like the trees and the buildings
an ode to a bunny i killed near the a19!!!! so jedidiahcore that its insane!!!!!! like it works so well for him that it has Double Meanings with both him having to tear apart the bunny and with him having to kill sydney cmon . its insanely jeddiecore . its hard to analyze this one lyric by lyric because its more of the Overall Feeling of it but the whole thing about agonizing over killing something and not being able to move on and all that nonsense . also the repetitive lines about not being able to do it and not being able to go through with it with the inevitible fact that theyll have to and they did is fucking insane for him because all of his like proper Murders are both like .... described very clinically without a lot of emotion but seem to have left a HUGE emotional impact on him that implies that at least internally there was a lot of emotions bound up in it even if its not necessarily visible. sydneys death is described incredibly clinically but clearly fucking wrecked him to go through with it, killing the bunny is described very matter of factly but he apparently hates doing that kind of thing, the pigs ritual is described very matter of factly but apparently horrified him so much that he cant eat pork anymore, etc etc
heart for brains by roar is more of a sydidiah song (heart-for-brains being sydney) but ill focus on the part that reminds me of jedidiah bc these arent SEDDIEcore songs theyre JEDDIEcore songs
Tumblr media
this part always reminds me of like . a VERY harsh awakening on jedidiahs part of how hes acting . very "i miss you im such a fucking idiot"core lol . because jedidiah Is incredibly cold and avoidant to sydney and it Has paid him well, but also hiding all his secrets and avoiding ever confiding in anyone hurts him just as much and doesnt make anything better or easier for himself like he thinks it does
who could win a rabbit by animal collective is a hard song to analyze lyrically lol its a lot of rambling . but it always reminds me of how others view jedidiah because of this whole idea of CONSTANTLY working and constantly being busy and never taking time to relax and enjoy things as well as the repetitive rabbit motifs reminding me of the whole rabbit scene . also iv generally thougth that jedidiah doesnt properly eat well or drink much during that time bc obvoiusly hes not spending time doing that so "eat it like its gonna get away/your coffee sure is getting colder" with leaving drinks untouched and eating food quickly to get back to work always reminds me of him
poor grammar also by roar is more how sydney Feels about jedidiah as opposed to like how jedidiah feels but im including it bc it fits .... SO insanely well that i can talk about it for ages
Tumblr media
theres this sense with how sydney percieves the way that their relationship grew and transitioned from being teens to being adults that jedidiah didnt mature and commit to the relationshipt he way that an adult would be expected to and that made sydney grow more ad more dissatisfied and thats what this line reminds me of
Tumblr media
this feels like . the EPITOME of pre-sydney running away seddie to me . like absolutely 100% to a t it feels like how jedidiah attempts to interact with sydney . he cant say anything outright he cant Tell sydney anything he cant outright say that he has to avoid sydney but cant handle it . he cant handle properly comforting sydney . so he just shakes and stammers and mumbles his way through a "comforting scene"
Tumblr media
and again this is just a lot more of like . id have to do a lot more sydney analysis here and again this is like a jedidiah song list so thats not erally the point lol ..... but the whole "how am i supposed to get through" having ad ouble meaning of "how can i get through to you when youll never talk to me" and "how can i get through this without you" and the "try repeating once again this time with feeling" wanting jedidiah to express proper emotion and love to him again and "premeditated like some sick joke waited all night for you" reminding me of things like the tower building competition .... yk how it is
and obviously never love an anchor is the jedidiah song of ever but like you could watch the animatic to understand that . no explanation i could give would do better than just watching tha damn animatic
i could probably come up with more but oh my god ive gone on too long </3 but yes those are my fav jeddiecore songs

Horror Villains And: Period Sex
Tumblr media
oh that is the perfect gif I totally forgot all about it but oh boy. thanks billy for your service to this blog.
Warnings: Obviously, menstruation, blood, and smut. I’m dealing with a particularly uncomfortable period (for me at least) and just want some e m p a t h y about it.
~~~
Who LOVES it:
Freddy Krueger: ABSO-MOTHER FUCKING-LUTELY. It’s a struggle to keep his hands off you (on a normal day) during your period. He can smell it.
Kieran Wilcox: yes please mommy, he’s waiting.
Luda Mae Hewitt: This is her secret kink.
Michael Myers: B l o o d  p l a y? Any kind of bloodplay, Michael is into it. If you weren’t already bleeding, he would probably make you bleed, with his (Actual) knife.
Mickey Altieri: Bring it. Jesus christ, Mickey thinks its so hot. Getting his cock or his fingers coated in your slick and your blood (Seeing the string consistency between his fingers), seeing you in a total mess from your period and being fucked to oblivion? Oh yes.
Midnight Man: He just likes it. I dunno. I don’t have a logical reason, extension or explanation of my vibes here but I am getting them from him.
Patrick Bateman: Oh my god it is his favourite kind of sex. Yes yes yes. Please please please. He marks your cycle in his calendar, with special notes about flow and mood. Soon enough he’s figured out your whole period every week and knows exactly when the iron is hot enough to strike. Any w h e r e, any t i m e .
Both Pennywise’: Ooooh, watch their eyes glow and their hair get more luscious when you tell them. Their teeth get sharper and the whites of their eyes get whiter- they’re horny as fuck now. Be a good sport and give them a lil taste, won’t you? A smell at least? That, or have them trailing you like lost puppies for the rest of the week, and curling up to/around you as tightly as possible when you’re sleeping.
The Clown / Jeffrey Hawk / Kenneth Chase: Where else could he possibly go on this post, honestly.
The Man (Hush): Yep.  He’s favourite time of month.
Who is like ‘a b s o l u t e l y  n o t’:
Jerry Dandridge: Do I really need to comment? I mean, he can control himself being around you on your period, but you cannot let that blood smell hit the open air. Your controlled, classy vampire bf will disappear in an instant and will be replaced with… well, Evil.
Yeah no thanks:
Debbie Loomis: She’s not vehemently against it, but still… nah? Thanks for the offer tho. And it won’t happen when she’s on her period either, c e r t a I n l y not. Don’t even touch her when she’s on her period, jesus christ.
Jennifer Check: Yeah she just got a new manicure. Over her dead body will you stain her new French tips with your coochie blood. And if she puts her mouth down there, it might excited t o o much if you get what I mean and you will become a real snack.
Is indifferent towards it:
Bo Sinclair: You’re sure into him durin’ this time o’ month, aren’t you? Eh… whatever. Hop on. He’s happy to help his partner, especially if its in such a gratifying way! I mean he won’t buy you any fucking pads but he will do this and there’s Bo as a boyfriend for you.
Chucky / Charles Lee Ray: I mean sure? Blood doesn’t scare him and it is, in fact, a turn on for him of course so sure. Plus, you’re less likely to get pregnant at this time, which is great! Doesn’t see what the big deal is, here. (Although, weirdly, I see past Chucky from Curse to be very much in the next category)
Inkubus: It’s not even a big d e a l, man, its cool. He likes all kinds of sex. Go wild.
Jason Voorhees: Jason is basically ace in the way he conducts himself on a general basis but if it tuned out that he was interested in sex and/or was willing to do it with you, then some blood leaking out of your private parts because of some natural causes is not going to change his mind. Is this not normal??
Jedidiah Sawyer: ???Alright??? He wears a mask made of skin, your natural bodily functions are not going to scare him away. Besides, the knowledge that it could lessen menstrual pain for you is a nice bonus. He’s gotta take care of his family.
Roman Bridger: It’s really not a big deal to him. We’ll just put down a darker sheet, or some plastic. You both need this sometimes (Him for emotional support when he’s stressed, and you of course cuz you’re on your damn period) and a bit of blood is certainly not a deal breaker. Besides, he finds the easy thrusting to be nice and comfortable. Preferred sometimes, actually. Just some nice, lazy, relieving sex with your director boyfriend.
Sheriff Hoyt / Charlie Hewitt: A little bit a’ blood aint gonna turn me off, sugar. Don’t you worry bout that.
The Djinn: See Inkubus. Except, our dear Wishmaster is so much more of a tease about this.
Is enthusiastic when they learn that orgasms lessen period pain:
Bubba Sawyer: He doesn’t care about exposure to blood, obviously, and he doesn’t see it as gross at all but he was still concerned about whether that was safe during your… monthly thing… but once he found out that it could help you with cramps he got on board immediately! ^^
Lester Sinclair: Oh boy, well okay then, let’s give this a go then!!
Mayor Buckman: He knows the drill; Boone gets terrible cramps. Don’t worry, he’s got you.
Pamela Voorhees: Oh of course she’ll help you out when you’re hurting ^^
Stuart Lloyd: Well… don’t get him wrong, for sure there is the part where it helps you in a seriously uncomfortable time… but then there is also the fact that he is a lil bit of a secret freak and menstrual care is a good excuse for him. (So he also belongs in the first category ^^)
The Deathslinger / Caleb Quinn: Blood doesn’t bother him, and if it’ll give you a hand with yer monthly problem then you just need to ask him. You’ll be on the bench in the saloon with your thighs spread without a second thought, like asking for a glass of water. (Except of course Caleb’s a lot more hands on about the whole thing of course (; ) He’s happy to help.
The Huntress / Anna: Oh!! Really?? It’ll help? Okay, then, sunflower. Remove your pants. Let’s go !!
Vincent Sinclair: He’s just very supportive and helpful through all areas of your period. He doesn’t understand, but he can still be sympathetic and help the way you say would be good ^^
Is curious and will try:
Billy Loomis: Is really curious and excited to try it. I mean, he likes blood? He likes sex? And this is both those things?? Fun lubricant, yay.
Chop Top Sawyer: And when I say that he’ll try and I REALLY MEAN IT, MAN. Like, go big or go home. He’s going to eat you out at this time and he’ll end up really enjoying it. Buckle up babes, you’ve awoken something buried pretty damn s h a l l o w l y inside him.
Granny Boone: Similar to Chop Top except with him, you had to tell him you were on your period and all so it would be different and all, while with Boone she was the one sniffing it out and *cough* hunting you approaching you about trying it.
Jill Roberts: For the same reasons as Billy. Plus, she wants to be able to say ‘well I did it for you- you have to do it for me.’
Leslie Vernon: I mean, he’ll give anything a shot once. What’s the harm?
Piper Shaw: Same as Jill.
Stu Macher: Super enthusiastic to try!! XDD Just, like, dyed lube- right?
Is c a u t i o u s:
Carrie White: … periods have always been difficult for her… But she’s willing to give it a try as long as you’re willing to return the favour! ^^
Thomas Hewitt: Tell him, if whatever he does hurts you. He is very serious about this. He wants you to feel better, but he doesn’t really know this works and does not want you hurting in his vein attempt at making you feel better. So, please. Tell him how you’re feeling. He’ll get really good at making your cramps and discomfort go away.
They may take some convincing:
Drayton Sawyer: I mean, he’s of course not afraid of some blood but… uh… Well, I mean, he doesn’t really have a big, or even moderate sex drive in the first place so any sex of any kind takes some warming up to. Maybe if the stars aline and you catch him on a good day. Otherwise, he tells you to just suck it up.
Manipulation and Fuck-It Expenses: A (not-so) Condensed Essay
Okay, so in light of today's episode, I wanted to talk about something. Ever since episode 22 dropped, I've seen rhetoric sprinkled here and there (lol) that's like "Sydney needs to listen to Jedidiah" and "He's being dumb going along with the Elephant Man's schemes". And like, while I think we can all agree that temmieboi is a manipulative li'l bitch (though I love him for some reason. Why? WE JUST DON'T KNOW.) and it's dubious whether or not he genuinely cares for or wants what's best for Syd, I think a lot of people are missing the point. So, it's time for another rambly essay that nobody asked for! Obviously there's spoilers under the cut, so please do not read if you are not caught up with the podcast.
(DISCLAIMER: I love everyone in this podcast, so please do not take this as me trashing any one character. Me being critical of a character's actions =/= hatred for that character)
So, anyone who knows anything about the plot of Camp Here and There will know that one of the major themes is the struggle for autonomy, which is mainly explored through Sydney's point of view. He has very little control over his own life, and others constantly make choices for him that he should be able to make. One important thing to understand is that both Elijah and Jedidiah have contributed to taking that control away from him in different forms. Both of them are also manipulative. It is important to understand that regardless of their intent or how they may feel toward Sydney, the way they both treat him is not okay.
And yes, Jedidiah is included in this because he continually gaslights Sydney about his fears and emotions. Yes, it's true that he struggles with psychosis and hallucinations but in light of that information, invalidating his feelings about a scary situation is even worse in that case. Oftentimes, in cases of those with psychosis, giving someone a "reality check" is NOT what they need, and it's better to go along with it and validate their emotions, but he did not do that for him and worsened it by taking away his support. Furthermore... Sydney didn't actually WANT him to save him from TEM, he just wanted him to listen to him. We hear him state this when he says "I don't want to be safe, I want you to care about me." So, even if Jeddie does have Sydney's best interests at heart, he has been manipulating him and making him feel worse.
Another important thing to understand is that Sydney is lonely. He's not friends with many of his co counselors, and for the most part, the only people (aside from Jeddie and Marisol) who seem to really like him are the kids, and he can't rely on them for obvious reasons. He stays at camp year round, and only sees people other than Lucille for THREE MONTHS in the entire year, and even during that time, those closest to him (COUGHJedidiahCOUGH) don't spend much time with him. Since computers don't work there, and Lucille is the only one with a cell phone, he probably doesn't even have the solace of the internet. Imagine, for a second, just how hard it would be to not have anyone around other than LUCILLE to talk to for 9 months in a year, and then even during those three months of summer camp, barely anyone else spends time with you. I would simply pass away myself, but that is a topic for another day.
This may seem really off topic, but bear with me. Have you ever heard of the concept of a "fuck-it" expense? If not, the concept is basically that poor people often see no point in saving their money for larger expenses, such as houses, because they feel as though they'll never be able to buy one anyway in our current economy. Instead, they spend their money on coffee, or expensive food, or nice clothing, or movies and games, and really anything that just makes them happy in a miserable capitalist hellscape where you're overworked and starving. It's the idea that if you can't have happiness in the long term, that you at least want to find something that makes you feel good for a little while, even if it could hurt you later.
What does this have to do with Camp Here and There, you may ask? Well, simply put: Elijah is a fuck-it expense to Sydney. Think about it. No matter who he sides with here, he doesn't get to keep his autonomy. No matter who he chooses, he's going to be manipulated. In fact, he states something similar in The Goo of Friendship: "...I don’t do anything in my terms… Urgh! I would be so much happier if I could just accept that…"
But as of right now, Elijah is offering certain things to him that Jedidiah isn't: he's offering not only answers to all of the questions he's had from the beginning, but also his attention and... affection (which I refuse to call love, because I don't think Elijah actually knows how love works but that's a different discussion). And really... if you HAD to choose between two manipulative boys... wouldn't you rather choose the one who says he'll help you get answers? Who says that your feelings are valid and that everyone who leaves you feeling hurt is stupid? Who promises affection, and love? Especially when the other option can't even bring himself to validate your emotions or spend time with you. Yes, it's manipulative, but from Sydney's perspective, he's miserable and lonely and wants something to make him feel better, even if it will hurt later. And Sydney DOES, I think, realize it will hurt later, which makes him feel confused... but at this point he really can't help himself. As Jedidiah said himself, he's reacting to untenable circumstances.
Now, I hear you saying "Emil! Are you really telling me that Elijah is GOOD and that Sydney's making a good choice?!" to which I say: Hell no, what the fuck? Of course he's not making a good choice, but that's because there ARE no good choices in this situation. What I'm saying is that we all need to cut him a bit of slack-- and calm down. Sydney isn't stupid or easily manipulated, and to suggest so is a disservice to his character. He's flawed, yes, he's vindictive and petty and doesn't know when to take no for an answer, and definitely tells the kids too much, but he's not STUPID. He's a smart man in a bad situation who's doing the best he can while hurting.
TL;DR: When given a choice between two manipulative men, it makes sense that Syd would side with the one who at least tells him he's pretty. Don't sell the guy short.
Meeting and Dating Kahmunrah
Tumblr media
(My gif)(Requested by @arianatheangelworld )
(I changed the movie plot a bit to fit the meeting portion of this but I doubt that that will upset you. And the meeting story is a bit long but that’s because there’s dialogue in it, sorry!)
- You were working at the Museum of natural history as an archivist when your old friend Larry came along and convinced you to accompany him to Washington.
- Though it took a bit of convincing, you ended up agreeing and soon found yourself standing next to the old night guard as Kahmunrah and his guards awakened.
- Contrary to your companion, you at least pretended to be intrigued by the Ancient Egyptians awakening …which drew his attention to you. He continued to glance over at you as he spoke, up until Larry stole his attention away with his defiant behavior and Rubik’s cube scheme.
- Speaking of the Rubik’s cube, it didn’t necessarily go as …perfectly as Larry had initially hoped. When the octopus went about snatching up and swiping people away, you were left in its grasp as Larry managed to escape with the tablet.
- So, you were taken prisoner by the bloodthirsty Egyptian …though he wasn’t exactly ...good at it.
- Initially, he tries to act like the typical seductive yet evil villain but his voice, paired with him messing up his words and the stumble that occurred as he tried to attractively lean on something near you, made his attempts quite unsuccessful.
- As you defy him more and more, he pulls the whole “you are so lucky that I don’t kill you” act; though he isn’t particularly convincing. You know very well that he was once a ruthless killer, and that he could still very well be one, but it’s obvious that he can’t bring himself to even hurt you, let alone kill you.
- To test your theory, you attempt to provoke him, and what does he do? Gives you more threats, more warnings, more scoffs. It’s honestly somewhat ...cute; watching him act all tough. Endearing in a way.
- That being said: you aren’t completely cruel, so you give it up and let him believe he’s won. Once you stop that, it only takes a few minutes for you to grow bored; you are just sitting there tied up, so you let out a quiet huff and turn to him.
“You know …I know a lot about your brother; it’s kind of my job, but I don’t think he has nearly as interesting of a story as you must have. I mean, sure he was pharaoh for a few years but it was so short lived. And getting everything he wanted …what's so interesting about that?” You apologized to Ahkmenrah in your head as you spoke.
“I mean there’s no trials or tribulations, no drama, no nothing. Just perfection in the most shallow degree.... I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’d like to hear more about you.” You prompted and he eyed you somewhat suspiciously.
“You would?” He asked a bit guarded and you nodded. “About what exactly?”
“Ohh about anything,” you replied. “You must have been quite the fighter. You look like you were.”
- There it is. He sent you a pleased, prideful smile as he launched into tales of his combat achievements. After he was finished with that, he moved from subject to subject eagerly. It was then that it dawned on you that you were probably the first person to genuinely show interest in him and you found yourself feeling somewhat sympathetic.
“It’s a shame we’re in this situation. I would have liked to get to know you more.” You’d said somewhat offhandedly as he finished telling one of his stories.
- He froze for a moment, his mouth opening and closing a few times before he managed an attempt at speaking. “Well I …I mean. Well who says we couldn’t? I’ll be ruler of the world after all.” He went off on a bit of a tangent related to said idea before he looked over at you. "Wouldn’t you say?”
- Before you could respond, in came Jedidiah and soon enough Larry arrived too, instigating the whole hour glass situation and leaving you at a bit of a crossroads as to how you truly felt about the bloodthirsty Kahmunrah.
“The world isn’t as great as you think it is,” you blurted out as you waited for Larry to find the code to the tablet. “Really, I mean sure it can be pretty and power is alluring but …it’s also polluted and it’s violent and there’s the whole heat death of the universe or the nuclear warfare thing.”
“It’s not like the world you lived in. I mean it’s home for me but, with all due respect, I don’t think you really know what you’re asking for. Plus, you’re gonna be frozen again in a few hours and then you’ll be transported to my museum in a few weeks.” Shit. Shit. You probably weren’t supposed to mention that or at least shouldn’t have. Larry didn’t even know, hardly anyone really knew about the renovations.
“What did you say?”
“What?”
“What did you say just then.”
“About the heat death of the universe?! Yeah there’s this whole, we’re-” He interrupted you.
“No, not that! You said I was being transported to your museum!” He exclaimed and you sighed.
- With no other choice, you began to explain everything that you knew. He went silent for a moment, sitting in his “throne” and thinking about what you’d said.
“Would you like me to be there... at your museum?” He asked finally, attempting to appear nonchalant.
“...yes. I think I’d like that very much.” You answered and he tried his best to hide his pleasure in your reply.
- Before you knew it, he’d called his men to retrieve Larry, and soon enough, he was explaining to the man that it had “come to his attention” that they’d be seeing a lot more of each other in the near future and that he had “changed his mind about things”. Larry eyed him; and you, suspiciously before accepting his words, standing there awkwardly as the Egyptian smiled and clasped his hands pleasantly.
- So yeah, soon enough Kahmunrah was at your museum and since he’d; you know, tried to take over the world and apparently may or may not have killed his younger brother, he wasn’t too popular. And though you’d initially played up your intrigue for the man, you couldn’t deny that you did; in fact, like him and found him particularly attractive.
- Due to your interest in and acceptance of him, he spent most of his waking hours with you.
- It isn’t long before the two of you get together, he’s quite fond of you and is used to taking; or at least getting, what he wants at the exact moment he wants it. So, he tries his hand at a bit of flirting before finally making his first move.
- You’re in your office with him when it happens. He looks over at you and just blurts out that he’d like for you to be his queen, effectively stopping your hand as you were writing.
- Obviously, you were a bit taken aback so you looked up at him with wide eyes, watching as he tried his best to hide his nervousness; though the glancing away from you and clearing of his throat gave it away.
- You replied that you’d “like that”, causing him to look over at you with a smile. Before you knew it, he’d leaned forward, taking your face in his hands and pressing a soft, chaste kiss on your lips.
“Wonderful!”
- And thus, you officially made the bloodthirsty Pharaoh fall in love with you.
- I’m convinced that Kahmunrah desperately wanted  to find a wife in his day, thinking that it would give him everything that his parents never did: love, affection, favoritism, etc. So, now that he has you, he yearns for your touch and attention more than anything else in the world.
- He’s constantly trying to hold and keep his hands on you. He lives to be affectionate with you and show everyone that you’re his.
- He likes to keep his hand on the small of your back, holding you at his side and leading you as you walk.
- Hugs from behind and/or his hands on your upper arms, pulling you back to press against his chest.
- Whenever you’re with him, he wants to have your full attention and dedicates himself to obtaining it when he doesn't. He likes when you come to see him on your own accord, rather than him calling for or visiting you himself.
- Top of the head and temple kisses.
- Somewhat rough, passionate kisses. He tries to convey all the emotion that he has inside of him into said kiss and you can most certainly feel it whenever he does.
- Domineering kisses. He likes holding the back of your head or pulling you into his body abruptly, his lips searing against your own.
- Soft pecks and kisses when he’s in a softer, happier mood, or when he’s dejected and you’re trying to cheer him up.
- Lot’s of pet names; they show everyone in your general vicinity just how much he cares for you. He’ll call you things like “my queen”, “my jewel”, darling, honey, etc. Larry wasn’t sure how to respond when he first heard one.
- He likes when you cuddle into him, usually wrapping your arms around his middle and nuzzling into his chest while he wraps his arms around you. That being said: he secretly likes being the one to cuddle into you.
- Bridal carrying.
- Sitting on his lap or standing by his side, holding his hand as he gazes up at you lovingly while the two of you speak.
- He’s definitely attempted to seduce you in that smoldering “striking a pose in front of a roaring fire” type of way but all it managed to do was make you laugh before you tried to assure him that “No, no, you are sexy. It’s just cliché. Please Kah, I’m sorry, really”.
- He enjoys telling you stories though you try to steer away from his family life and focus on superstition or his more happier memories; knowing that you’ll just send him into a mood if his brother comes up in conversation.
- Him trying to impress you, whether it be with tales of his achievements or his efforts to “be good”. He lives off of your praise and craves it like nothing else; particularly because he didn’t receive much of it in his life.
- Not many people give him the time of day or attempt to be nice and; at least, pretend to be somewhat amused/amazed by him; Larry in particular, so he appreciates that you do; even if he knows you’re at least somewhat faking it.
- Speaking of him trying to impress you: there was this one time; possibly before you even started dating, that he just so happened to notice you looking at his arms and a lightbulb went off in his head as he realize that oh, that’s something that I can get her with.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Like what?”
“ You’re staring at my arms. Why,” he gasps and grins. “You like them!”
“ What are you talking about?” You reply a bit nervously.
“Youuu’re attracted to them!” He accuses confidently and you scoff; though a moment later you’re glancing back as he crosses them in front of his chest. “You are! Look, you’re looking again!”
- He wants to spoil you so badly. He may just find a way to do so....
- Occasionally, he tries to be harsh with you but he just can’t follow through. You’re like the only person who’s nice to him so he wants to see you happy; even if he’s sort of mean at first. He always ends up doing what you asked in the end, usually pretending like he doesn’t know what you’re talking about while enjoying the kiss on the forehead that you give him for it.
- He thinks you’re adorable and he expresses it quite a lot. He may or may not baby you every now and again for this exact reason.
- Watching him fondly as he fiddles with things and acts like a goof.
- If you haven’t noticed it yet, he’s quite dorky and cute when it really comes down to it. It’s fun to sit and watch him gush about something or just be himself.
- Sneaking him out of the museum for a little while. He convinced you to go to the opera with him at least once.
- He thinks your apartment is adorable; a bit unintentionally condescending in retrospect but he did live in palace, and he likes to snoop around your stuff.
- He likes your gifts to him. In comparison to his upbringing, they’re quite quaint but the intention behind them makes him far happier to receive said gifts rather than a box of diamonds.
- Always having his guards at hand no matter where the two of you go.
- Letting him rant about his brother. You think Ahkmenrah is a darling but you hold your tongue and seek to understand where he’s coming from.
- Trying to bridge the gap between the two siblings. According to an earlier version of the script, Kahmunrah was the one who killed his brother, though regardless of this, there is going to be some tension between them that must be resolved.
- Telling him about the new world, he’s both greatly knowledgeable yet clueless at the same time.
- Letting him talk to you about all that he’d hoped to achieve: the power he’d wanted, the throne, the statues, …you after the minute he saw you.
- Getting a rather exaggerated introduction to people. He makes you sound far more important than you really are.
- Getting looked at for backup in situations like the “tunic incident”.
- Calming him down when someone or something angers him.
- He wants what he wants at the exact moment he wants it so he’s arguably a bit impatient; even with you at times.
- Letting him “whine” to you and comforting him when things don’t go as planned.
- Assuring him that he is, in fact, big and scary and powerful.
- He’s a little miffed that he can’t speak to your parents when they call. He wants to introduce himself, make a good first impression and make it known that you’d found yourself a wonderful and impressive future husband! They can get used to the fact that he’s a dead Pharaoh, can’t they?
- He’s an incredibly jealous individual though I’m sure you were able to gather that for yourself. He isn’t even subtle about it, immediately calling you away from the person or scaring them off himself. He’ll at least attempt to deny that it was because he was jealous but you’re both fully aware that that isn’t true.
- You’re his “precious jewel” and he’s going to do all that he can to ensure your safety. He’ll threaten death on all who upset you and kill all who hurt you. He isn’t risking losing you, he just isn’t.
- The two of you bicker more than you genuinely fight, sending each other little glares before one of you finally concedes. Other times, he’ll raise his voice and make threats though he isn’t frightening and fails miserably at being harsh with you.
- He thinks you’re cute when you’re angry most of the time, which probably causes you to give him the silent treatment. He’ll apologize quickly if you’re really upset with him or fondly yet reluctantly on occasion; if you look particularly adorable with your brows all furrowed.
- He tells you that he loves you quite often; especially if you’re alone. Its very important to him that you know he does, considering how often he felt unloved as a child.
- Quite obviously, your future is a bit difficult to anticipate but he isn’t going to let you go without a fight.
The whole reason that even happens is because Jedidiah is jealous of him (but obviously won't admit it)
I mean
JUST LOOK AT HOW OCTY WAS TALKING ABOUT HIM
KDHOJS ok but with good reason though, octy got taste. If I saw Lancelot I would've jumped him like a damn grasshopper. But that's me 😌 And yea Jed would be v jealous but Lance would only do it to impress his beloved pharaoh (and it works for some reason) and they just end up having a good time with their respective loved ones so everyone wins😬🙌🙌🙌
Have a name survey because these are always fun.
Boys
A Andrew vs. Aaron Alan vs. Alexander Aiden vs. Adam B Brennan vs. Brayden: Both of these are awful but I guess I gotta pick. Brandon vs. Braxton Bentley vs. Brimley C Cayden vs. Camden: Again, both equally cringey for me. Cole vs. Cameron Cade vs. Chandler: Chandler is a cute name for a girl, but I have a bias for Chandler Bing too hahaha. D Denver vs. Dallas Deklan vs. Dylan: I prefer the spelling Declan, though. Also, I technically like Dylan just a little bit more and would have picked it, but I like it for a girl. My sister had a classmate named Dylan and it sounded really good on her. David vs. Dennis E Ethan vs. Ezra Eitan vs. Elijah Emmanuel vs. Eden: Again, I prefer the name Eden for girls.
F Fabio vs. Ferdinand: I very hesitatingly picked Fabio hence the italics, but I very much dislike both. This is also what I’ll be doing for the rest of the names on here. Finnegan vs. Finley Fernando vs. Frankie: For the millionth time, Frankie is cute for a girl (this is where y’all really see that I prefer daughters more HAHAHA), and this is also because there’s a local singer named Frankie that I really admire.  G Gavin vs. Gus Gumby vs. Gerrick George vs. Grant H Harper vs. Harley Hayden vs. Henry Harlow vs. Hank I Ian vs. Ivan Indigo vs. Iris: Can I just say these are both better off as girl names? Indiana vs. Iris: And these, too?
J John vs. Jericho Jacob vs. Jameson Jasper vs. Jedidiah K Kayden vs. Koa Kent vs. Kyle Kevin vs. Konner: I prefer the spelling Connor, though. L Lars vs. Liam Levi vs. Lance Lester vs. Lorenzo M Michael vs. Matthew Maverick vs. Mason Madison vs. Micah N Nolan vs. Nathan Niko vs. Nathaniel Nicholas vs. Nate: I honestly like both. I can go with naming a son Nicholas then giving them Nate as a nickname. O Ocean vs. Oscar: I hate nature names and Oscar screams old-guy-name to me. Sorry to all the Oscars :( Orville vs. Otis Otto vs. October P Patrick vs. Percy Preston vs. Paisley Parker vs. Passion Q Quincy vs. Quinn Quada vs. Quinten Quailen vs Quidditch R Raven vs. Riley Rowan vs. Rod Ray vs. Roy: I have a bit of a sentimental attachment to Roy cos it’s an occasional nickname Gab’s dad uses. S Skylar vs. Scott: Only because a high school classmate named her kid Schuyler and that baby is seriously adorable, bubbly, and well-behaved. Storm vs. Steven Sorin vs. Solomon T Trevor vs. Travis Todd vs. Taylor Taytum vs. Tanner U Ulysses vs. Uman Umbo vs. Uno Utah vs. Usher: I dislike most geographic names, but I’d rather I name my baby Utah then have them be sang sex-themed songs by Usher by meaner kids throughout their childhood lmao.   V Vance vs. Vincent Vern vs. Vayde Vernon vs. Vayden W Walter vs. Wyatt Wade vs. Winter Wallace vs. Whisper X Xenon vs. Xayden: I really wanted to pick one name for each question, but being stuck between a chemical element and a name ending in -den is an easy no to both for me. Xayler vs. Xavier Xandon vs. Xennan Y Yvonne vs. Yonder: These names are getting more awful now that we’re ending dude, lmao. Yuletide vs. Yasser Yancy vs. Yancer Z Zeeland vs. Zayden Zion vs. Zenon Zander vs. Zenner
Girls
A Acacia vs. Alexa Aurora vs. Annalise Avonna vs. Alessandra B Brogan vs. Brooklyn Bianca vs. Brigitta Bailey vs. Brynn C Carlotta vs. Christine Cheyenne vs. Cescily Cecilia vs. Cassidy D Diedra (pronounced Dee-ay-druh) vs. Delilah: But I prefer the spelling Deirdre. Devia vs. Daytona Dakota vs. Darcy E Evonna vs. Eliana Emerald vs. Evangeline Eden vs. Eliza F Felicity vs. Fiona Faith vs. Faye: Both have always been on my blacklist for girl’s names, sorry lol. Flavia (pronoucned Flah-wee-uh) vs. Flora G Grace vs. Gretchen Genesis vs. Galaxy: Please don’t make these names happen. Gabriella vs. Greta: I love both names and have always liked the name Greta because of Greta Garbo, but I’m obviously biased towards my girlfriend so Gabriela/Gabriella it is. H Harper vs. Hope Holly vs. Hailee Harmony vs. Harvest: Again, both cringe material but I guess Harmony makes me cringe juuuuuuust a little less. I Imogene vs. Ivy Isabella vs. Iris Irene vs. Ingrid J Jessica vs. Jacinda Jade vs. Juniper: Juniper would be cute if a baby can stay a baby forever lmao, but I’m generally not a fan. Joanna vs. Joy: But I like the spelling Johanna more. K Kaleidoscope (Kallie for short) vs. Kaylee: Can I just pick the nickname? I hate the other two options :(( Kennedy vs. Kendall: I’d pick both, but thinking as a future mom, I wouldn’t want my daughter to be mercilessly teased for being given a name that’s usually understood to be more masculine in nature. I know we’re all about breaking stereotypes and all, but y’all – realistically, kids can be pretty fucking cruel. Katelyn vs. Katrina L Lacey vs. Linsey Lynnea (proncounced Lynn-ay-uh) vs. Liberty Lara vs. Lola M Morgan vs. Madison Mackenzie vs. Miranda Marissa vs. Monica N Nora vs. Natalie Nevaeh (pronounced Nev-ay-uh) vs. Nicole Niki vs. Noelle O Ophelia vs. Ocean: Only picking Ophelia because I’m generally not a fan of nature names, but there are a lot more better options if I wanted to name my kid after Shakespeare plays, like Beatrice or Emilia. Olivia vs. Onna Opal vs. October: Was never a fan of gemstone names, and there are much better month names than October. P Passion vs. Primrose: I feel the same way for Primrose as I do with Juniper. Mostly cute with babies, but is less cuter on grown-up girls. Penelope vs. Pixie Pandora vs. Palace Q Quintessa vs. Quincy Quaila vs. Quilala (Kwi--lah-lah) Queen vs. Quiencia (Kwee-ence-ee-uh) R Reyna vs. Riley Rosanna vs. Rosemary Rhonda vs. Rodica (Roe-dee-kuh) S Skylar vs. Skye Serena vs. Simone Shailey vs. Sienna T Tessa vs. Taylor Tia vs. Tiana Taytum vs. Trixie: Tatum would be a better spelling. U Una vs. Uta Ulyssia (You-liss-ee-uh) vs. Umba Ula vs. Ursula: Only because it can be a Friends reference lol. V Violet vs. Vylette Veronica vs. Victoria Valencia vs. Valerie W Wynona vs. Whitney: Winona > Wynona, but still. Wynter vs. Whisper Willow vs. Wanda X Xaila vs. Xara Xana vs. Xenon Xavier vs. Xena Y Yasmin vs. Yvonne Yvette vs Yolanda Yori vs. Yaya Z Zayara vs. Zion Zayana vs. Zoey Zen vs. Zara
Final questions!
Your name (first and middle): Robyn Isabelle.Do you like it?I hated the name Robyn throughout my childhood because I always got teased about it. When I got to college and everyone just kinda matured and told me they liked the way my name flowed, I ended up warming up to and loving it.What your parents almost named you:I was almost named Ariel after the Disney princess, and I know my parents were also thinking of naming me Katrina/Katherine/Kaitlyn.Your favorite girl's name (first and middle):Olivia. I don’t have a pick for middle name yet.List five unique names of girls you have met:Shauna, Shontrice, Unila, Ciamae, Rheezan.List five girl's names you don't like:I mostly dislike in-your-face weather/nature names like Winter, Snow, Amethyst, Cloud, Gaia, or Daffodill. But some, like Cheyenne, Rose, and Luna are super cute, too.List five girls name you really like:I’ve done this like 10 times on 10 different surveys but I like names such as Olivia, Elizabeth, Mia, Ava, and Isabella.Your first best friend's name:Kaye.Your siblings names:Nope.The name of the first pet that you loved:Tobi, my pet rabbit.What you would be named if you were the opposite gender:I’ve never asked my parents about this, actually. They’d probably go with a Spanish/Hispanic name, seeing as they went with Joaquin for my brother but were also thinking of naming him Diego.
Caroline? Bonnie? 6 Vampire Diaries And The Originals Stars Julie Plec Wants On Legacies Season 2
Tumblr media
Legacies Season 1 just finished its run, with multiple characters from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals either stopping by or being name-dropped on the spinoff. (cough Caroline cough) Julie Plec is the ruler of The Vampire Diaries Universe, and she revealed that they will be writing Season 2 in June, and they'll start filming the new season in late July.
So this is the planning period, and also probably the time that they send out feelers to certain stars to ask/beg them to at least cameo in Legacies Season 2. The Legacies finale made it clear they'd love the twins' uncle Kai Parker to be part of Season 2, but Julie Plec also named a few more Originals/Vampire Diaries characters she'd like to see back.
“Aside from me totally secret-ing into existence Kai Parker's appearance on this show, there's plenty of people I'd love to see. I'd love to see Bonnie (Katerina Graham). I'd love to see Caroline (Candice King) obviously. I'd love to see Freya (Riley Voelkel) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) and Auntie Rebekah (Claire Holt). ... The door is always open, and it's just really a matter of being able to match up interest from these actors and story opportunity at the right time”.
As Julie Plec told TV Guide, it's a matter of matching up interest, availability, and storylines. Legacies Season 1 proved it's a great show in its own right, it's just a matter of whether the stars want to return to the characters they played for so long on shows that wrapped up their storylines only a year or two ago.
Julie Plec acknowledged her shameless plug for Kai Parker in the Legacies Season 1 finale, but added that -- beyond pressuring Chris Wood -- there is no guarantee that Kai will join Season 2 to continue Lizzie and Josie Saltzman's Ascendant/Gemini Coven/Merge storyline.
As for her other Vampire Diaries and Originals suggestions, most of her picks are the same folks I had also singled out as fitting in perfectly in the spinoff.
Caroline Forbes-Salvatore is the most obvious choice, as we all know, because she is the twins' mother and got name-dropped pretty much every week. Candice King was a no-show in Legacies Season 1, so now it's a question of Season 2.
Julie Plec tweeted some answers to fans' questions after the Legacies Season 1 finale, and of course she was asked about Caroline appearing in Season 2:
Tumblr media
So far, it's only a hope for Caroline/Candice.
It might also just be a hope for Bonnie Bennett. Bonnie would fit in perfectly with how Legacies Season 1 ended, since Bonnie was the one who put Kai in his current Prison World, with the help of young Lizzie and Josie's Gemini Coven magic.
Kat Graham has been pretty busy since leaving The Vampire Diaries, and when Hollywood Life recently asked her about returning to the franchise as Bonnie, she was understandably hesitant:
“Eight years is such a journey, and I felt like I spent more time as Bonnie in my twenties, the age that you’re really learning who you are and going through self-exploration that we all have as women in our twenties, and I spent more time as this character than myself. I think I did what I could do and expressed what I could personally express through this character as much as I could. I’m never gonna say never because I think the universe has a funny way of putting you exactly where you’re supposed to be with exactly who you’re supposed to be with. But, I think right now I’m having a good time getting to know myself better”.
The Vampire Diaries only ended two years ago, and The Originals actually only ended not quite one year ago. So everyone gets that many of the stars are ready for a break.
That said, Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell) is the main character of the spinoff Legacies. Season 1 ended with everyone forgetting Hope, but she has a long history out there and it would be great to have her Mikaelson family back in the mix to help fill in the gaps.
Tumblr media
Julie Plec mentioned Hope's Aunt Freya, Aunt Rebekah (who was last seen engaged to Marcel) and Vincent. Plec already said Vincent was the Mikaelson family friend Hope sent Landon to see in New Orleans.
Last we heard, Vincent had agreed to be the father of Freya and Keelin's kids. And Legacies recently referenced Freya as the one who actually explained The Merge to Hope over the phone.
Everything is happening off-screen at this point, but it would make sense to see more Mikaelsons on screen. Right now, Freya actress Riley Voelkel is still in The CW family with Roswell, New Mexico, so maybe she'll find time for at least a cameo in Season 2.
We'd all love to see Hope's father Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) again, but the Necromancer did update that Klaus has no regrets about his decision to sacrifice himself at the end of The Originals. We can probably expect to hear Klaus name-dropped a lot, but it wouldn't make sense to see him.
Same for Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Stefan sacrificed himself -- it's such a TVDU trend -- in The Vampire Diaries finale. However, Legacies Season 1 revealed that Elena Gilbert-Salvatore (Nina Dobrev) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) had a daughter Stefanie that they named in Stefan's honor.
Julie Plec was asked if we might see Damon and Elena's kids on Legacies, and here's her response:
Tumblr media
That would be so great. The Vampire Diaries lasted for eight seasons and The Originals went for five. We don't know how long Legacies might last, so it's possible some past stars will show up in, say, Season 4.
Legacies Season 1 already saw plenty of returnees from The Vampire Diaries and The Originals -- Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), obviously, as headmaster of the Salvatore school and father of Lizzie and Josie; Sheriff Matt Donovan (Zach Roerig) in a couple of episodes; Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) in a cameo; Jo Laughlin (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) as the undead Mombie Dearest biological mother of the twins in her heartbreaking episode; and, for some reason, Roman (Jedidiah Goodacre) came back, although they didn't do enough with him to really justify that.
Legacies paid homage to The Vampire Diaries and The Originals all year, from The Merge references for the twins to the Klaroline dress that Klaus gave Caroline, which Lizzie then gave Hope for the Miss Mystic Falls pageant.
But one of the most asked questions after Legacies Season 1 -- beyond What's Going To Happen With Hope? -- was if Penelope Park (Lulu Antariksa) would return.
Penelope is a brand new Legacies character, showing that Legacies can stand on its own. It doesn't need to have Vampire Diaries/Originals characters return, but since it's a spinoff it does make sense to see certain past characters pop in.
Julie Plec said she can't make promises on any characters for Legacies Season 2 -- from Penelope to Caroline, Kai, and beyond -- because there are so many factors involved. But cross your fingers for good news as Season 2 filming approaches over the summer. That's when we should get more firm details on who might be back and for how long, before the fall 2019 premiere on The CW.
Who would you most like to see return for Legacies Season 2?
i have heard your plea for people talking to you about chnt! it's been a while since i listened but i'll ask some questions that i like thinking about...
who do you think the agents are? and what are they doing?
what's the deal with clocks? is it just symbolism or is it a plot-relevant thing do you think?
honestly i don't remember how much lore was revealed in the muse of the elephant/elephant in the room and how much is just my own theories so this is just me asking a question about canon- what's up with the camp? is it a pocket dimension, time loop, or what? was that even properly explained?
hey. i love you. OKAY SO ive discussed some of this on discord with a few friends before and here's what i've kind of put together: (spoilers obviously for all of season 1)
for the agents: personally i believe that the events of chnt arent in the present; theyve already happened. the files are what the agents are listening back on to make sense of what's happened at camp after some big 'event'. i like to believe that the 'event' was triggered so to speak at chnt and spread to the rest of the world or whatnot from there. the entity stuff is classifying who each person is, and how much of a danger they possessed/how powerful they were in an attempt to clean up and organize the disarray. the clocks? HOOOOO BOY. should i even go into this one? ok so this is completely a friend's theory BUT. to sum up and paraphrase, basically, there was someTHING related to necromancy that jedidiah worked into the clocks that is too powerful to be read plainly (as we see his father died because of it), thus meaning sydney cannot stray too far from camp. when he says that he can't leave camp because he feels sick being too far away from lucille, the theory is that it's actually the clocks keeping him tethered to the camp. the extension of this is also that necromancy isn't impossible, just EXTREMELY illegal and contraband etc etc, as well as unreasonably dangerous, which is why they push the "necromancy is impossible" line so much. TLDR: the clocks are keeping sydney alive. as for the camp: personally i think it's a mix of It's Just Like That (think gravity falls), something to do with the consistent theme of warped time throughout season 1, and as i mentioned earlier, being a retrospective of the "event" or the "limn" as i believe it's referred to by the agents. but thats a whole other can of worms. im sure some of what ive said here can be easily disproved but if im being real ive only listened to chnt twice (listened to the finale a few times tho) and only read the transcripts in part so im not all that sure about everything, but that's just my thoughts on the matter :)
thank you so much for asking
It's a pretty recent thing that I've gotten into slashers- I used to be utterly terrified of any kind of horror movie and in the past few months that has changed vastly. I've made my way through every slasher film I could get my hands on, and surprisingly to me, given my continued aversion of Hannibal Lector, Leatherface was quick to become a favorite. He only slightly falls behind Jason Vorhees and holds a really special place in my little slasher-loving heart.
He's also, from what I've seen so far, the Slasher who changes the most. From Bubba Sawyer to Junior to Thomas Hewitt, each incarnation of Leatherface is different from the one before him. And while I found the "Next Generation" incarnation of Leatherface a bit lacking (mostly due to the oddness of the movie on a whole), I have to say I do adore Leatherface in everything  I've seen, excluding the 2017 Leatherface "Origin story".
It's part of why I have these three versions of him on my list for who I will write. I love each of them, though I'll admit Junior does get less attention from me due to his lack of attention from the fandom on a whole.
First up, Jedidiah "Bubba" Sawyer. As the original, Bubba has a special place. His violence is fueled mostly by fear and orders, and his home life seems a terror. Though I imagine that Drayton, Nubbins and Choptop care about Bubba in their own ways, it's pretty obvious that they're also controlling and even abusive. He's got a childishness that shows in most of his incarnations but always stands out a bit more to me, and with his different masks, different behaviors. In truth, my like for the Leatherface in Next Generations is mostly because it feels most similar to the original Leatherface. This Bubba I generally like to think of as childish, cautious, and not quite aware of sexual things- but definitely open to them.
Next is Junior. The third installment of Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a bit of a mess, with even the Director having wanted his name taken off the work originally. But I have to say I really love the way they expanded the family- not having Drayton or Nubbins (or Choptop) is pretty sad, but with new characters like Tex, Tinker, and Alfredo I think it's still a pretty fun installment. This Leatherface we never get a name for, but he is pretty distinct in that his behavior is a pretty nice mix of Bubba and Thomas. With an obvious temper, but a childish behavior, Junior is still a loyal member of his family, but not so loyal that he won't lash out if they do something to upset him. I've watched this film a number of times just because I love this family so much. From pervy erratic Alfredo, to sadistic feminine Tex and sorta Head of the Family Tinker, I feel like this family really came to life in their singular movie.
It also leaves us with a bit more uncomfortable feeling with Leatherface that I feel was explored a bit in the second film, but not nearly as much as it is in the third. With Bubba remaining childish even in his crush on Stretch and the obvious implications, there's still a type of innocence. Junior, however, it's made very clear that he knows his way around 'them private parts'. With a pretty little girl to attest to his ability to breed and possibly voracious sexual appetite, we can assume he's not quite as innocent as his predecessor. This is likely the most sexual version of Leatherface we've seen, which can be uncomfortable at the same time as pretty exciting.
He's also the only one we see who is also suffering from a disability other than his questionable mental health or intellectual status. With a metal leg brace it's interesting to think on how he might have been injured in the past. He's still more than capable of chasing his prey and fighting, even hefting a  80 pound chainsaw with him. He might be a bit more adult in some ways, but he's certainly still the terrifying Leatherface we know and love.
On to Thomas Hewitt. Thomas is an interesting case, in that his family is shown to be more than simply cannibals. We get to see what drives them to that point of desperation, and also how uncomfortable most of them are at the very start. Through the comics we get the image that this is a family that was violent from the beginning- they didn't need the risk of starvation to push them over the edge of viewing outsiders as completely different from themselves. They are loyal to Family in a way that is actually terrifying in and of itself. It's also the version that brings in the concept of incest, a topic not touched by the other movies.
Thomas Hewitt's characterization changes drastically depending on who is writing him. Some fanfics allow him to be much more intelligent and empathic than some others do, and while he generally keeps his muteness, it's not uncommon to see fic where he speaks. It's up to a lot of debate whether or not Thomas is different from Bubba in his mindset or abilities. We know that his disfigurement is different and that his story from birth is quite sad. I like to think of him as being a bit more intelligent than Bubba or Junior, but still wholly dependant on his family. Still too childish to really fathom the full extent of how he's sometimes used to their advantage. He's obviously loved by his family, to the point of them killing for him without thought, and his willingness to protect them is a trait I've loved most in all of the Leatherfaces.
I do find him to be a bit more removed from society. Less interested in things like sex or girls. Thomas, I actually view a bit as Ace. Work and family oriented. Still curious, still a bit childlike, but all together content to as mama or Hoyt say. Keep the family safe. Keep them fed. Do his best.
Talk 2 me abt ocd jedidiah and I will be your best friend 4ever and ever /nf
HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHE YAY OKAY OKAY .... some more minor jedidiah ocd hc moments i think about daily because i could obviously talk about the whole oh his rituals are not all guaranteed to be 100% necessary bc hes an unreliable narrator blah blah "i need to do these things to keep my loved ones from dying" and "i cant say certain things or else ill hurt someone" are textbook ocd obsessions and compulsions blah blah . so have my more niche moments that i hc as being ocd symptoms
disclaimer yes i know some of these things overlap with either trauma responses or the very real pressure to keep sydney alive i know this ..... but these things can overlap with worsening ocd symptoms . xoxo
ive said this before . the shelled animal thing is a massive ocd moment . an extreme ocd moment . why does he have such a pathological fear of something thats harmless that he has to spend a presumably significant amount of his time researching them for his safety? suspicious . reads to me as an obsession w his phobia that he copes with through researching compulsively
ok this is talking very much about my own experience but the whole entire episode about jedidiah being extremely attached to objects that he prescribes INTENSE sentimental value to that he has breakdowns about losing reminds me a lot of how my own ocd hoarding tendencies present . not w the fruitfly because thats more just attachment, mainly the fact that he's extremely disgusted by the maggots and yet somehow cannot cope with losing them, his inability to let go of the stone that he didnt even really care about when he was playing with it, stuff like that . u could argue that this is just a trait specific to playing house but a: i wouldnt argue the maggots count under that and b: id say the way he behaves with clocks (having tons of them all over his room, leaving gears everywhere) and his journals (obsessing over them as if theyre real people to the degree of referring to them as being 'kidnapped') still leans into this even tho obviously this relates to his paranoia as well - theres a lot of overlap to me between jedidiahs trauma, jedidiahs ocd, and jedidiahs actual real rituals that he actually needs to do
this is again me projecting im just giving my little projectionesque thoughts here this is what u signed up for . but personally i often cope with ocd through coming up with a Different Contradictory obsessive belief that i am unable to shake to attempt to contradict my paranoia - thats what i hc hes doing when he does his whole "youre always fine" with sydney thing, often contradicting catostrophic ocd thinking with fantastical beliefs that everything automatically Will be okay can be a kinda unhealthy coping mech
i think abt him ten times a day . sorry this post is like 99% me talking abt hoarding lmao
A Divided Heart
1 Kings 3:3 “Solomon showed his love for the Lord by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David, except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.”
King Solomon was the wisest man that ever lived, even wiser than my dad who was the source of all wisdom to me in my early childhood.  However, for me, Solomon’s life and ultimate end has been an ongoing source of awkward questions that don’t have easy answers.  Solomon was the second son of David and Bathsheba, the first one having been conceived in adultery and then taken by the Lord seven days after he was born (2 Samuel 12: 15 - 18).  His parents named this second child Solomon, meaning “peaceful” but God gave him a far greater name, “Jedidiah”, meaning “loved by the Lord”.  As King David lay on his deathbed, his last act was to make his son, Solomon, King in his place, warning him to “be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of Israel’” (1 Kings 2: 2 - 4).  So, Solomon started his reign by doing what David had asked of him “showing his love for the Lord by walking according to the instructions given him by his father David..” and if that was the end of the story I would have no questions but there’s an added detail at the end of verse 3 that is troublesome: “except that he offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places.”  The Amplified Version tacks an explanation on to the end of the verse “[as the pagans did to their idols]”.  So Solomon did all that David asked of him except...  Thus, we can conclude that David must have instructed his son not to worship God in the high places like the pagans but Solomon either forgot or more likely disobeyed as we shall see later.  Remember, back in 2 Samuel 7: 1 - 13 God spoke to David through Nathan the prophet that a (S)son of David would build God the house that David greatly desired to build and not only that, but God would also build David a house and a kingdom that would last forever. David’s response to God reveals how tender was his heart toward his Lord and how humbled and overwhelmed he was to be so blessed.  All of this happened before his adultery with Bathsheba but even in that situation, when Nathan sets David up with the story about the rich farmer and the poor farmer (2 Samuel 12: 1 -4) to nail him to the wall as the murderer he was, for having Bathsheba’s husband, Uriah, killed to hide the results of his adultery, even there David shows his love for God in genuine repentance for his sin.  He makes no excuses (verse 13) “I have sinned against the Lord” and shortly thereafter pens a beautiful song of repentance, Psalm 51 from which one of my favorite choruses is taken:
Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; O Lord and take not thy holy spirit from me.  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; And renew a right spirit within me.
All his life, David sought after God and even when he got entangled in sin, he never defended himself but simply confessed his sin and pled for God’s forgiveness.  Now let’s look at his son, Solomon.  Solomon’s first recorded action was to make “affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David,..” (1 Kings 3:1).  Wasn’t it forbidden for an Israelite to marry a foreign wife because of the danger that such a wife might turn her husband away from God?  Verse 3 says he loved the Lord and walked in the statutes of David his father (except for where he worshiped the Lord).  That raises another question: Why does it say he walked in the statutes of David rather than the statutes of God?  I’m not picking holes here because as we will see later, these decisions resulted in disaster for Solomon in his walk with God. Was Solomon’s love for his heavenly Father, God, rooted only in his love for his earthly father, David?  A wise man once said God has no grandchildren, meaning we cannot rely on our parents’ relationship with God to assure our own. Solomon obviously loved David and doubtless had seen first hand all that God had done through his father but David did not command Solomon as king to walk in obedience to David but to God.   Each of us must find our own relationship with the Father through Jesus Christ His son.  Being raised in the church and learning to do all that the church does helps but it is not enough to keep us from straying off course.
God loved Solomon and wanted him to succeed as King so He appears to him in a dream and offers to grant him his greatest wish (verse 5) “Ask what I shall give thee”.  Think about that!  The creator of all things asks His creature, “What do you want me give you?”  How would you answer that question?  It’s like the story of Aladdin’s lamp where the genie asks the same question only this time, it’s for real and the genie is God Himself.  What’s the most important thing in the world to you right now, the thing that means more to you than anything else, even your life?  It’s not a question that is easily answered and there isn’t a “correct” answer but there are some answers that are better than others, a few answers that are better than all the others and maybe one that is best of all.  Solomon chose a good answer (verses 7 - 9) “And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.  And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.  Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?”  What a great answer from a young king charged to be a ruler over God’s people.  God commends him for his answer because it was totally free of selfish ambition and He not only grants his request but adds on all the other things that selfish ambition would have chosen (verses 11-14) along with a generous spirit to share the bounty.  Solomon asked for wisdom and became the wisest man that ever lived but! was wisdom the best choice? Tragically, 1 Kings 11: 1 - 9 tells us:
But king Solomon loved many strange women, together with the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites: Of the nations concerning which the Lord said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love.  And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines: and his wives turned away his heart.  For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.  For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.  And Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and went not fully after the Lord, as did David his father.  Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon.  And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.  And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel, which had appeared unto him twice,.
Solomon’s great wisdom could not keep his heart right with God.  He may have loved the Lord but he loved Him with a divided heart, a heart which also loved hundreds of foreign wives who did exactly what Moses said they would do—turn his heart away from the true God to foreign gods.  How could someone with such wisdom be so foolish as to presume that God would turn a blind eye to such gross sin?  Solomon may have loved God but not enough to walk in ALL His ways, just some of them.  This is not just Solomon’s problem.  It affects us all as we seek to serve Him and the remedy for it is not more wisdom, it is more LOVE.  Jesus said the first and foremost commandment is “thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment” (Mark 12:30).  The apostle Paul put it this way. ”And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:13).   I wonder how Solomon would have fared if he had asked God to grant him a heart of love for God and His people, the agape kind of love that Jesus asked of Peter when they met just after the resurrection (John 21:15) and which Peter could not offer Him, the kind of love He asks of each of us.  A divided heart will always be vulnerable to being pulled in the wrong direction but God’s promise is to give us a new heart and a new spirit that enables us to walk in all His ways.  If you haven’t already done so, ask Him to give you a new heart and a new spirit so that you can walk with Him in all his ways.
