I read the Grey thing and she's right. It's basically unanimously agreed that Azula is abusive. But the whole point is that Azula changes herself first and then gets into a relationship with Ty lee based off of love and trust, not intimidation. It's a lesson on changing as a person and forgiveness, which is literally what atla is about. And bdsm isn't abusive at all, it's fairly normal. It seems like people who bashed her either hated tyzula to begin with or minors that didn't understand contxt

I’m fine with the BDSM thing. I know it’s not abuse lmao I was pretty much fine with the whole thing till I realized something about the abusive part lmao most people would advice someone to NOT return back to their abuser, because abusers don’t and can’t change. Sure, with someone new in their life, maybe they can try to change, but that takes years and a lot of intense therapy BUT it rarely ever succeeds.

Abusers are aware that what they’re doing is wrong, but they still do it because they selfishly want everything to go their way and completely disregard the other party’s voice. They DON’T feel remorse for their actions because they literally don’t care about their victim. They want their victim to only listen to them, depend on them— basically obey them for every second of their life. There is no ounce of freedom for the victim of abuse and the abuser will break them mentally and emotionally (sometimes even physically) to make sure the control will be effective. They don’t care about their victim’s happiness. They only care about themselves, and when confronted or triggered, will retaliate by demeaning and gaslighting and guilt tripping their victim. Everything they do and say is part of their calculated plan to ingrain self doubt and destroy their victim’s self-esteem. By the end of the humiliation rant, the victim will feel like utter shit and think it’s their fault, and THAT is the abuser’s aim. Abusers are different from those who have anger issues. Abusers are absolutely in control of their self 24/7. It is control which they pride themselves for, so they are fully aware of what they’re doing and fully aware of the effects on their victim. In their mind, it is never their fault and always the victim’s. There doesn’t need to be an actual reason or ‘trigger’ for their abuse. They just do it whenever there’s a slightest desire of freedom from their victim. And while abusing their victim, they will actually enjoy it— enjoy the control and enjoy the power, hence not feeling any ounce of remorse at all. This isn’t a habit that can be changed. It’s rarely ever changed. It’s a behavior that can be prevented in the first place, but abusers just don’t care. Abusers are pretty much close to being monsters. They just murder the person’s soul instead of the body.

This is a prime example of abuse:

1. Petty trigger ✓

2. Insert self doubt ✓

3. Destroy self-esteem ✓

THIS is abuse. And Ozai doesn’t even feel a shed of remorse or guilt for how he treated his family. At all. Because in his mind, he is right and has always been right. He believes that it is his actual RIGHT to control his family. This is what a abuser does, and this is what they will always be.

The problem now here is that labeling Azula’s behavior to be abusive, means that she literally did not see Mai and Ty Lee as friends, but simply objects that belonged to her. Calling her to be abusive would mean that did not want them to befriend or be engaged with anyone else but her. HOWEVER. What happened in the series contradicts this. Azula intentionally set up Mai and Zuko together (she and Ty Lee have been literally shipping them forever), Azula also was more than fine with letting everyone go their separate ways when they went to Ember Island simply as ordinary teenagers and more importantly, she never once demeaned her friends.

The thing about Azula is that there’s the 14 year old teenager Azula, and then there’s the Warrior Princess Azula. Notice how when she was off duty in Book 3, there was absolutely no display of ‘abusive’ behavior, or even toxic or an ounce of manipulation and fear. Yes, she occasionally used her advantage of being Princess to make Mai leave to have a private conversation with Zuko, but is that enough to call it abusive? Not really.

Now, the evidence that people usually use to say that Azula was abusive is when she threatened Ty Lee into joining her mission and then the famous exchange between Mai and Azula: “I love Zuko more than I fear you.”

Consider that Azula was in her Warrior Princess mode in both times. She treated them just like she would to any other soldier. She approached Ty Lee as a friend, and that failed, so she switched to her military tactics which was using fear to set her soldier to the right direction. Was it wrong? Definitely. Was it ethical? No. But was it logical at that point? Yes. But was it abusive? Debatable. The control and fear factor was obviously there, but the intention and role that Azula undertook was different from an ordinary abusive person who wanted control simply for their own benefit. In that point of time, Azula didn’t see them as friends, but merely soldiers who were meant to be led by their leader: Princess Azula.

But like I said, her behavior around them differed from in Book 2 and Book 3 because of the roles she was playing. Book 2 was Warrior Princess Azula, and then Book 3 was just Azula hence her being just ‘normal’ around them. Let’s not forget that Azula actually felt remorse for her actions which is unusual for abusive people, even when confronted. Azula believed that trust does not exist because she’s been betrayed and disappointed whenever she did give her trust. She never selectively used fear against people like abusers do. She literally treated everyone the same (except her own abuser and family), because that’s all she’s ever known her entire life to actually work. Family loyalty means something to her, which is why she didn’t feel the need to do the same to Zuko. Azula never demeaned or destroyed anyone’s self esteem either like Ozai did (playful taunting is normal).

I think it’s also important to mention that while yes, most abusers have been abused themselves during their childhood so they carry it with them in their life— Azula’s case seems to just be relying on the belief that fear and control is the most reliable way to get what she wants. And she is in a position of power, so that works out perfectly for her. Azula abuses her power, but not her friends.

Calling Azula abusive would mean that Azula was actually Ozai, except the younger and female version. A lot of people today find Azula redeemable. No one thinks Ozai the same because he is abusive.

Azula is toxic, but certainly not abusive. The word abusive carries a heavy meaning so I’m very nit picky whenever the word is thrown around. Abusers don’t deserve redemption, but evidently Azula does. So, personally, I can’t label her as an abuser because of reasons mentioned above. If someone still ships an abuser with their victim despite so, that just doesn’t feel right and tbh it’s a dangerous mentality to have.

SO...I never meant to delay this for so long, I’m so sorry for this, but I’m excited to rejuvenate this page -- I’m quite bad with tumblr, but I just hit 350 followers and I figured I’d put in a second dime for trying to make this little account work. People seem to like my little writings (which surprises me tbh, but I appreciate the love) and I’ve gotten a lot of questions about requests, so here’s the masterpost of all that for here!

PLEASE NOTE: I don’t use Tumblr too regularly, I’m trying to be more active but because of life & stuff, I’m not always active to write. Plus, just because you request something, doesn’t mean I will automatically be able to give that! It takes time, inspiration, and often the ability to form a sentence, which weirdly I struggle with. Way too often.

WHO I WRITE FOR...most people look at this acc for tua writings, which i’ve got an abundance of! I’m quite fine with any requests of any characters, except for five (unless like it’s some aged up version of him; I don’t feel comfy writing about him and I just don’t care to). I also will write for a lot of other fandoms if you ask for them: those including marvel, stranger things (those of age, i’m not writing stories about minors), harry potter and a couple others. HOW TO REQUEST...I prefer not too many details in a request, just so I still feel inspired to write the piece. So, if you’re asking based on a prompt below, tell me the number(s), the character you’re looking for, and any details you feel necessary to add! Remember, nothing too specific, like don’t give me the entire plot but things like genre, atmosphere, details on the reader are okay. I usually write either genderless or female reader (I try to stick with the former to be accommodating) but you can ask for a specifically gender-neutral or female/male reader too. This also applies to fics you want garnered to a specific section of the LGBTQIA+ community (for example, if you wanted a lesbian reader with Vanya Hargreeves). I try not to add any details to appearance to the story so that everyone can enjoy the fic, but again you can ask for any specific and I will try my best to accomodate for you lovelies.

4. Do you have a NoTP in your fandom? Are they a popular OTP?*

As previously discussed, Jet/Zuko in 90% of cases (I would only read it if it was being presented as an unhealthy relationship and even then I have difficulty stomaching it).

I also can't deal with Zuko/Aang (or Zuko/Toph) because the size of that age gap with kids is deeply unhealthy, you're at *completely* different points of maturity, and it'd be near impossible to conceive of a romantic relationship without the younger party being coerced or groomed at some point. I have unfortunately been witness to a 17 year old friend dating a 13 year old friend when I was a teenager and it was an absolute disaster start to finish, with the younger girl being really hurt by it, so to an extent this is personal too. It's a shame because I love *love* Zuko and Aang's friendship but a lot of Zuko & Aang art and content in particular is made by shippers. Sometimes I hear the complaint from Zuk*ang shippers that m/m shippers don't appreciate/hate Aang because he's not masc, he's very spiritual, he doesn't appeal to western audiences etc. and yes those are reasons why Aang's character is underappreciated in general, but also I'm always rolling my eyes because bro maybe the reason people don't like it has WAY more to do with that skeevy age gap. Yikes!

14. Unpopular opinion about your fandom?

You're gonna get more than one. I have a lot tbh, I think my main divisive one (but hopefully not too unpopular) is just that we need to make more effort to be consistently anti-racist and anti-imperialist in our approach to a deeply orientalist source material. The other main one is the way people massively favour m/m and how that ties into fetishisation but really that's not unique to ATLA and is arguably imported from other fandom culture.

one small one I don't think I've voiced publicly before is '______ is homophobic' as a joke, is like, just unfunny, annoying, and at its worst actively upsetting (and I'm so glad we've mostly dropped those jokes). obviously to some extent this is subjective and depends on your sense of humour but like... homophobic katara jokes were funny for exactly five minutes (because the idea of katara being a raging homophobe is so ridiculous it's laughable) before getting far too out of hand and it felt like it was very much slipping into irony-poisoned humour where people would actively make the case that yes she was very homophobic rather than recognising that ATLA's script as a whole tends to make jokes at the expense of gender non-conformity, especially men being weak or w/e, and people weirdly singled out katara for it. I mean you can read katara as straight, sure whatever, just why do you need to attach homophobia to it?

I mean. Obviously context matters here. I don't mind (and even like) azula jokes when it's like 'gay rights but only for me' or whatever because she IS that type of conservative gay and i honestly have difficulty imagining her getting over internalised homophobia but it's something I do think she gets over. It hits different knowing the chara is widely regarded as gay quite frankly.

The other thing is that I think some matters in fandom *are* subjective and we should agree to disagree more often. And by this I absolutely don't mean hard lines like inappropriate age gaps or very clearly abusive relationships. What I mean is that people are allowed to dislike characters and dynamics for whatever personal reason they'd like and that's ultimately fine. I know I follow people who don't like Sokka for his sexism and are unconvinced by his supposed shedding of that, and quite honestly I respect that opinion and viewpoint (and they're not entirely wrong i think). I follow people who don't like various things I ship, or aren't interested in tenuous wlw rarepairs where the characters have never met and don't have a established dynamic and I get that and that's honestly fine. Other people have different interpretations of characters and the thing is this can be both a subjective or objective matter, depending on the evidence provided. While some readings of a text are simply wrong (it's not entirely subjective) we should be careful not to take one reading as law. and honestly, interacting with people who share different viewpoints is more fun and interesting imo.

It would completely shock me if my mom did, although our relationship wouldn’t change. If Jacob did, I would probably be devastated since we’ve been together so long and have two kids... I wouldn’t care much if Kay did.

It’s fine if you’re both of age and it’s consensual. I don’t have much of a sex drive these days, which upsets Jacob sometimes. But I’m just so tired. All the time.

Eddie fiddled with the collar of his white dress shirt, feeling as though the high rised fabric may grow a mind of its own and suffocate him. Or maybe it was the acknowledge that before this night was over, something else may very well try to. Something all the more human than his dress shirt, but endlessly more evil. His mother had begged him- screaming, crying, pleading- not to go out the prom that night. Screams and beggings of how Richie was an evil boy, with darkness in his blood, and that going to the prom was sure to get Eddie hurt. That he would safe at home, with her, where nobody could hurt him. It burned at Eddie that- perhaps for the first time in his life- his mother’s frantic pleading was the actual truth and he was ignoring it anyway. This was simply what Eddie’s life was now, and he knew if he was meant to die this night- it was going to happen whether he attended the prom or not.

The door to Eddie and Richie’s bedroom at Frank’s apartment creaked open and his boyfriend came in to lean against the door frame. Eddie’s heart thrummed in his chest as he took Richie in, from the ratty combat boots on his feet, the ripped black skinny jeans and that Devils Jacket hugging at his shoulders like it once again belonged there. It reminded Eddie suddenly of the day in Richie and Bill had confronted one another in the quad, something that had truthfully only been two months earlier but might as well have been a completely different life. Eddie hadn’t seen his best friend since the night of Greta’s party, and it still left a hard, disgusting feeling of guilt in his gut. Eddie had turned his back on Bill at that party, and had been so caught up in everything with Richie and his father that by the time Eddie had the knowledge that he should go visit Bill he was sure the boy wouldn’t want to see him.

Richie tilted his head and smiled softly at Eddie. “We really don’t have to go,” he repeated for what must have been the seven millionth time in the past two days. “I am 100% fine with not going, I didn’t go to junior prom, it’s not going to kill me to stay home from the senior one… but it might kill me to go to it.”

Eddie let out a small laugh, letting himself fall forward into Richie’s waiting arms. The warmth surrounded him as he remembered his own junior prom. Eddie had come out as gay only a few weeks before- though he suspected that everybody had already known long, long before that- and Audra had insisted that they get together before the dance. He remembered the look in Bill’s eyes when Audra had come down the stairs, that look of absolute utter love, and Eddie had thought for the first time in his life that maybe a high school relationship really could last forever. Closing his eyes tightly, he squeezed Richie tighter. “Audra would’ve wanted me to go,” he said quietly against Richie’s chest. “Last year it was all she could talk about. How for senior prom she was going to make sure I had some hot date and that we’d double with Bill and her and how amazing it would be… Obviously, that’s not what..” Eddie cleared his throat, shivering slightly as he felt Richie’s nails scrape against his scalp. “I’m going to the prom for her, because she fucking deserved her senior prom with Bill, and there’s no way I’m wasting my chance to go to the dance with hot boyfriend even if somebody is going to try to kill us a little bit.”

Eddie pulled up, looking up at Richie with wet lashes. Richie pressed a kiss to Eddie’s forehead then grinned down at him, waggling his eyebrows. “You think I’m hot.”

“Oh my God,” Eddie let out a wet laugh. “Shut the fuck up, I hate you.” Richie wrapped his arms tighter around Eddie’s shoulders, and hid his laughter into Eddie’s hair.

Stanley Uris stepped out of his father’s car, fiddling with the cuffs on his dress shirt, Patty coming out the passenger seat and Beverly out of the back. Beverly’s satin red dress came down to the ground, with a spilt up the leg and her red hair was done up perfectly on the top of her head. Patty’s dress was the matching shade of red, cropped short and frilly, with her hair falling down her back in flawless curls. Both girls had donned their Devil Jackets over top the dresses. School dance or not, the both felt in their guts where this night was going to lead them and those Jackets kept the same mark of loyalty they always had even in times of peace.

Stan adjusted his matching red tie as he turned to the girls. He held out both arms, Patty linking into one and Beverly linking into the other. Lithium by Nirvana was playing as they walked into the building, Aurora Morgans turning and smiling pleasantly at them. She moved forward, accepting the tickets that Stan handed to her.

“Two dates, Uris?” Mike Hanlon called from where he was standing near by. He moved over, grinning. “Didn’t know you had it in you.”

Stan grinned back. “Richie was too busy to take all the Devil girls this year, I’m just doing my civil duty.”

Mike laughed, holding his hand out for Stanley to slap and shake. Aurora looked between them, eyes narrowing slightly in suspicion but still holding a genuine smile. Beverly slapped at Stanley’s shoulder. “Richie basically my brother, Uris. That’s disgusting.”

“Hence why you’ve been my date for every dance of since we were old enough to have dates,” Stan shot back in reply, drawing a laugh even from Aurora.

Beverly pulled away from Stan, pressing her hands to her chest in mock horror. “And here I thought it was because you were secretly in love with me. There goes all my plans for the future!”

A small, dark look crossed Stanley’s face at that, the boy turned away with pursed lips. Beverly’s face fell and she bit at her bottom lip as Patty rubbed her hands together. Lithium turned to Black Widow by Iggy Azaela from the gym.

“Bev!” Richie Tozier’s voice called from the front door where he waltzed in with Eddie’s hand tangled with his own. “They’re playing your song!”

Beverly shot her god-brother a dirty look but Aurora had to slap a hand over her mouth after a single bark of laughter escaped her. Richie’s eye line jerked over to her, eyes hard for a moment before a small, genuine smile tugged at his lips and he winked at her. Aurora’s expressions to seem to stall for a moment, before she smiled back just as gently.

“Where’s your little boytoy?” Richie asked as he approached with Eddie in tow. Eddie was looking around the group of people with a confused look on his face. His eye line bounced from one person to the next, seemingly only growing more confused with each person standing there. “Ben? Benny Boy? Hay-“

Aurora reached out and clasped a hand over Richie’s mouth. A moment of surprise travelled through the group before Aurora let out a loud shriek, reaching out to rub her own wet palm on Stan’s suit jacket. Stan let out a horrified gasp and jumped away from her, knocking into Patty and sending the girl tumbling to the ground. Richie clung onto Eddie’s shoulders to keep himself standing straight up while he laughed.

“Do you see the chaos you cause?” Mike asked him, but his twitching cheeks made it obvious that he was fighting back his own laughter. Eddie smiled softly, wrapping down arms around Richie’s head and pressed his cheek to his boyfriend’s hair.

“Tozier! Marsh!” The voice carried over to them as their school principal came walking over towards them. “I need you to go the supply closet by the Student Council office to get streamers for the gym.”

“You haven’t finished decorating?” Richie asked incredously, brows shooting up to disappear under his hairline. “Who fucking organized this shit?”

A small, disapproving look crossed the principals’ face. “Betty Ripsom and Greta Bowie were in charge of the prom committee. Some things were unable to be completed in time, understandably. Please get the streamers.”

Richie nodded slowly, giving Eddie a quick kiss to the cheek before making a sweeping moment. “I will see all you lovelies in the gym! Bev, let us get streamers for the kind lady!”

Beverly rolled her eyes but she was smiling as she followed after Richie. Eddie watched him go, trying to ignore the anxious feeling in the pit of his stomach.

Beverly kept her eyes on Richie as they walked down the hallways in silence, Beverly playing awkwardly with the zipper on her undone jacket. Richie would occasionally glance towards her, but every time he noticed she was still looking at him, his gaze would jerk away and he would frown. “Rich…” She finally brought up the courage to say, taking hold of Richie’s arm lightly and pulling them to a stop. “I… Richie, I’m sorry.”

Richie let out a rough breath. “It’s funny you apologize, considering I don’t know what it is you did.”

“I…” Beverly choked on her own guilt for a moment, feeling her cheeks start to burn to the colour of her dress. “I needed the money, Rich. I can’t live off your parents forever, and they offered a lot. Too much to turn down, and they… they told me they wouldn’t hurt her. They promised!”

Richie’s face turned sheet white, body swaying for a moment like he was about to pass out. “Oh my God, holy fuck Beverly,” he clenched his jaw as though holding back to need to vomit. “I.. I vouched for you! And you… you’re fucking guilty and you let me… Fuck you, Beverly.”

“Richie!” Beverly cried in a small sob as Richie turned and began stomping towards the student council supply closet. “Richie, please, please. They would’ve have killed me if you hadn’t vouched for me, what I did-“

“You would’ve deserved it for what you did!” Richie practically spat at her, body trembling. “Jesus fucking Christ, Bev. She was fucking thirteen years old! And Bill’s brother… all those other kids…”

“I didn’t have anything to do with any of that!” Beverly pleaded. “I swear I didn’t! They just… they needed Neibolt, and the house is technically… I mean, it’s mine. And they promised they wouldn’t hurt her, but Janie, she-“

“Why the fuck would you believe them?” Richie asked, eyes wide and burning with something that even Beverly had never seen in them. “What the actual fuck could they have done to make you think that were trustworthy?”

Beverly let out a shaky breath. “Richie, you… you can’t trust Eddie, okay? You can’t-“

“Are you fucking kidding me, Beverly?” Richie shouted, tugging at the strands of his hair. “You’re literally standing here and telling me about the hand you had in my sister’s murder and then you’re telling me I can’t trust my boyfriend? Who the actual fuck do you think you are?”

Richie’s hand dropped onto the knob of the supply closet but Beverly grabbed at his wrist. “Please, Richie. I know I’ve given you absolutely no reason to trust me, like, at all but… Eddie isn’t who he says he is, there’s no way he doesn’t know something… Just trust me.”

Richie let out a shaky breath. “No fucking offense, Beverly. But you’re going to have to do a lot fucking better than that.”

Richie yanked the door open, something falling immediately from behind it. It crashed into Richie’s chest and letting out a sharp shout, Richie shoved at it and it fell to the ground.

Beverly screamed, clapping her hands over her mouth as the lifeless face of Henry Bowers stared up at her from the floor. The smell hit her, a smell that brought her to cleaning out her childhood house with Stanley, and she had to swallow back the bile that filled her mouth. Eyes tearing up from the stench, Beverly looked up at Richie. Richie was staring down at the body in still horror, and Beverly let out a scream of his name when she noticed the movement over his shoulder.

Before Richie could react beside jerking to looking at her, a hand holding a white cloth wrapped around his mouth and nose and tugged him down.

Funhouse by P!nk blared throughout the gym as Ben Hanscom milked that same cup of punch he’d gotten an hour earlier. He’d spotted nearly everybody he’d knew through the crowds of people in the gym. It seemed the threat of impending attack hadn’t stopped any of the surviving members of his graduating class from showing up.

“I didn’t think you’d be here,” Aurora Morgans appeared by Ben’s side with Mike Hanlon following not too far behind. Ben fought off the impulse to roll his eyes. He’d realized, of course, that none of what was happening was Aurora or Mike’s faults. It had been happening before the three of them starting investigating the case, and would have happened if they never had. It was still a little difficult to turn off his hard feelings completely, but he was trying.

“I wasn’t going to,” Ben admitted with a sigh, sipping the drink again for something to do. “But I figured, we’ve all come this far, you know? Might as well let it all play it out the way it was meant to.”

“Even if it means people die?” Mike asked, helping himself to a cup of punch himself.

Ben smiled sadly. “People are going to die anyway. We know that.”

Mike smiled sadly, swirling the liquid around in his cup, while Aurora moved closer to Ben and took his hand in hers. He looked to her, heart smashing against his chest and opened his mouth to speak. He never got the chance. Eddie Kaspbrak came running full tilt and smashed directly into Mike’s chest. Mike startled but managing to grab Eddie before they both went tumbling to the ground. “Whoa, little dude! What’s happening?”

Eddie pressed his hands to his knees and let out a wheeze. “Have you… seen Richie?”

Aurora raised her brow. “Not since he and Bev went to get the streamers?”

Eddie shook his head, tears filling up his eyes rapidly. “I haven’t seen him since then, either.”

Mike and Aurora jerked to look at each other, matching one another’s looks of panic, while Ben looked at his classmates in confusion. “Have you tried calling him, or texting him?”

“Have I…” Eddie blinked and gave Mike an incredulously. “Noooo, I haven’t tried texting him because I’m a fucking idiot!!! OF COURSE I’VE CALLED AND TEXT HIM!”

Mike held his hands out in front of him while Aurora reached out and started rubbing at Eddie’s back when his breathing started to heighten. “Something is really fucking wrong you guys… I know it.”

“I believe you,” Aurora said firmly, looking Eddie right in the eyes. She had a similar feeling of fear and dread in her gut from the second Eddie had asked if they’d seen Richie. “But we’ll find him, Eddie. I promise.”

Eddie looked up at with such hopeful, yet scared eyes, that Aurora felt her heart stall in her chest for a moment. Aurora opened her mouth but was cut off by the music skidding to a sudden stop. Every eye in the gym turned to look as their principal took hold of a microphone and looked out around the crowd of her students. She cleared his throat and Eddie was ready to throw up right there. “We are putting the school under a lock down situation,” she said. “Nobody is to the leave this gym under any circumstances until it is lifted.”

Eddie and Aurora looked at each other with panic, before both moving immediately to run towards the exit. Mike and Ben both gaped after them for a moment before running themselves. Ducking quickly through the crowds of people, there were enough students milling around with the surprising change of events, that they were as disguised as easily as they possibly could be.

Stan and Patty seemed to appear out of thin air at the side door of the gym, the only exit that didn’t seem to be guarded by two or more teachers- the only exit from the gym that lead right outside. “Wait, wait,.” Ben said suddenly. “We’re under a lock down, maybe we… maybe we should stay. If they’re keeping us here then that’s because this is where we’re safest.”

Eddie turned to him, face pale and cheeks wet. “You can stay. You can all stay. But Richie… Richie is in trouble, and Beverly. I’m not going to sit here on my hands under some fucking lock-down while Richie could be dying. I’m not asking you to come with me, but I’m telling you… I’m going.”

“I’m going too,” Patty said with a firm nod. Stan reached out and took Patty’s hand in his own, nodding along.

Aurora stiffened her figure. “I’m going to,” she said. “I’m sick of this shit. It ends tonight.”

Mike smiled. “I’m with you guys, I have just about enough of this, too. Let’s get Richie back and kick some murder ass.”

Eddie beamed and every eye fell to look at Ben. Ben let out a shaky breath. “Where are we going to go? We don’t know anything. There’s no where that’s safe to talk, let alone plan out some super hero mission.”

Stan looked at Eddie, who met his look and smiled. “I know somewhere.”

Fav thingabout him: He is so sweet; if I had a German uncle or grandpa or something, I'dwant him to be mine. He obviously takes his work very seriously too. He(initially) seems like a very cautious, careful sort of guy...unfortunatelythis attitude does not extend to all aspects of his life.

Least favthing: He's too sweet, dammit. His naivete and trusting nature made megenuinely angry, because I couldn't believe anyone could be so stupid aboutanything when he seemed fairly smart about everything else. I don't think youhave to be "street-smart" to understand that breaking out of an enclosedcompound without permission isn't the sort of thing you'd be allowed to getaway with. I was annoyed at how he felt like a plot device at the endthere--that he just existed to force Mike to have to kill him. It's a fault ofthe writing more than the character. Everyone could see the end coming from amile away, which is (as far as I can remember) unprecedented in the series.Even things that were heavily telegraphed and seemed obvious usually carriedsome sort of unforeseen twist, i.e. everyone thinking the lantern was going tobe involved in Chuck's death, but not knowing it was going to be a suicide. Thesecond they showed Mike building up a relationship with Werner, everyone knewexactly where it was headed. Also, this is a weird pet peeve, but I hate how healways called Mike "Michael". Bro, you've been working with him formonths, you are the only one who calls him that.

Fav line:(agh, unfortunately I can't recall any because I don't have any way ofrewatching season 4 at the moment. I love that he was courteous enough totranslate into English that he felt like he was going to throw up in the bumpyvan ride.)

brOTP: Him& Mike as cute old man drinking buddies.

OTP: Werner& his unseen wife, I guess. (That phone call before his death was so sad. I hope nothing happens to her, but this is the Breaking Bad Cinematic Universe, so bad things often happen to innocent people.)

nOTP: idk,Werner/Kai? I haven't really seen him shipped with anybody so I can't say Ihave any strong opinions on the matter.

randomheadcanon: (again, I need to rewatch all of season 4, because I remember thestory arcs, but not enough of the little details in dialogue and stuff.)

unpopularopinion: I have to admit, I don't know enough of what the popular opinions onWerner are to know what an unpopular opinion would be. I liked him, I just wishhis character arc felt less contrived and that he was treated like less of adevice. I also have seen some people in some places comparing him to Walt,which doesn't really make sense to me, because personality-wise they're justtoo far removed from each other. (Then again, people were even comparing dopeyPryce to Walter White, which was also a stretch!)

Fav thingabout him: Honestly, as a fellow cowardly, anxiety-ridden, socially maladroit, perfectionistolder child, aspects of him are extremely relatable, frightening as that may beto admit. (My younger brother is of the slacker/moocher variety, rather thanthe con man variety, though.) I don't agree with everything he does, but I understandwhy he does it. (This is actually pretty similar to my attitude towardsSkyler's actions in Breaking Bad--I don't necessarily agree with her decisions,but I mostly understand why she acts the way she does.)

Least favthing: I think he should've been willing to at least put Jimmy on some sort ofprobationary path to HHM after he landed Sandpiper. HHM was under no obligationto hire Jimmy after he passed the bar (a lot of fandom seems to feel otherwise,which makes no sense! I don't think any other firm would've wanted to hireJimmy either!) Jimmy probably would've still managed to screw something up, butat least then if Chuck wanted to officially bar him from working for HHM forgood, Jimmy would know why, and what it was that he had done to cause that. Itdoes no good to punish someone if he doesn't even understand he's beingpunished, which is what the whole issue is in the first place with Chuck goingbehind Jimmy's back and using Howard as the perpetual bearer of bad news.

Fav line:"Because if there's one thing kids love, it's local printjournalism."

brOTP: lmao Chuck is bros with nobody except his space blanket, and his ol'sipping-scotch-and-chortling companion Howard, before that relationship gotdestroyed...

OTP: ...althoughI must also confess a SHAMEFUL desire to ship Chuck/Howard, because it's gotsuch a messed up power dynamic, because they've known each other for at least18 years, because Howard's clearly still so much in awe of Chuck (which Chuckprobably enjoys), and because neither of them seems to have any other friendsor close relationships. (Are we ever going to learn what's up with Howard'swedding ring? Even my mom thinks Howard is gay at this point! And what's upwith papa Hamlin? Did he die? Retire?) Canon-wise, I'm actually really curiousabout Chuck & Rebecca's relationship, because I have to wonder what it washe did that caused her to divorce him, but not bear any particular grudge oranimus towards him afterwards. He was clearly really upset about the divorce,but doesn't bear any ill-will towards her either. She doesn't appear to enteredinto any new relationship after the divorce either. It's all very mysterious.

nOTP: I can'ttell if this person was serious or not, but I swear I remember seeing someonepropose some theory that Kim had fucked Chuck at some point, and that's gonnaget a BIG NO from me.

randomheadcanon: oh god I've got like five hundred of them at this point. Themassive infodump that was Chuck's obituary in the season 4 premiere contributedto a lot of them, I think. I imagine Chuck's freshman year of college, at age14, was absolute hell for him. He was so proud to get accepted to an Ivy Leagueschool, but had been upset it wasn't a more prestigious one, like Harvard,Yale, or Princeton. (He had applied to them and had a few interviews, but unbeknownstto him, he had been heavily penalized in their byzantine admissions proceduresbecause, despite his sterling academic record, they didn’t find him outgoing or athleticenough.) His parents put him on the train to Philadelphia by himself, with afew suitcases, a map, and $50. He had no problems getting to the university,but was pretty overwhelmed right off the bat by the fact that everyone else wasolder and wealthier than him; he had dealt with this to some extent in high school, butnot to this degree (I headcanon his fictional alma mater, Francis Xavier HighSchool, as a typical Jesuit all-boys preparatory school that draws heavily fromupper-middle-class suburban families). Here he was, a literal child, thrustinto the adult world, and the world of the elites, at that. He probably feltself-conscious about things he hadn't even realized he could feelself-conscious about before, and spent at least a couple nights sobbing intohis pillow, and praying that his roommate couldn't hear him. He made a coupledesperate attempts to fit in, with a relatively low level of success (e.g. goingto a party and trying to impress people there by playing piano, only to get abeer spilled on him instead), before deciding it wasn't worth it and he wouldthrow himself singlemindedly into his classes and extracurriculars. He had hisfirst-ever panic attack sometime during his first semester, and wound up at thecampus doctor's office because he had convinced himself he was having a heart attack.On being told he was physically fine, he was indignant, but all the same, henever told his family about the incident, or anyone else either. Somewherearound this time, he also gets a letter from his parents, telling him he'sgoing to be a big brother in a few months, and won't this be exciting for him?(He wants to tell them his life is too exciting for him as it is, but saysnothing, instead writing back that he is sure having a younger sibling to helplook after will be the greatest experience of his life. He almost convinceshimself that he means it.)

unpopularopinion: I DON'T HATE CHUCK. (The most unpopular opinion of all!) He's myfavorite character on the show, with the obvious disclaimer that saying acharacter is my favorite doesn't mean I approve of all the character's actions,etc. Also, I know he's just a fictional character, but I'm still pissed offabout people celebrating that he killed himself & saying they hope it waspainful & stuff like that. Like, how much of an asshole do you have to be?What a horrible thing to say.

GoT Re-Watch: Fine-Toothed Comb Edition

Sorry for the delay! I’m up to the really long episodes now. This takes a while.

7.05 - Eastwatch

(2:00) Hail the miraculous survivors, now some distance downstream from the battlefield. The plot armour is with you, boys.

(2:54) Man called cunt: 1.

(3:02) “Until I get what I’m owed, a dragon doesn’t get to kill you. You don’t get to kill you. Only I get to kill you.” I’ve seen this called an explanation for Bronn’s actions, but this is not holding up on previous characterisation. Bronn cut his losses with Tyrion when it came to fighting Gregor Clegane; his chances of surviving a fight with a dragon are considerably less than his chances of surviving a fight with Gregor Clegane. Either there’s something to the theory that Bronn’s fallen in love with Jaime (or feels for him more deeply than any affection he has for Tyrion) and his character development compelled him to spear tackle Jaime out of the way of a fireball, or this is a bad justification for writing themselves into a corner earlier.

(3:42) A nice shot of Jaime looking back upriver at the battle.

(4:55) Just looking around at the extras here, it seems to me that we have a case of the Nice Lannisters, just like in 6.01. The average conventional attractiveness of these guys has gone up a notch, and we have a lot of younger men, soft haircuts and big eyes, all filmed in a nice golden light. Compare to the plainer, hardbitten, closer-to-middle age men who make sexual threats and talk about killing people. Again I say, it’s so great how this show doesn’t judge people by appearances.

Protip: If Dany’s wrong to burn these people, she’s wrong to do it whether or not they’re young or old, good-looking or not.

(5:02) Also, Dany mentions here that thing where Cersei Lannister has been burning people and orphaning children etc etc. The fact that nobody should be fighting for Cersei is the elephant in the room. They wrote that elephant in there and now they can’t write it back out, but if they ignore it aggressively enough, maybe they can convince people that the elephant’s not there.

The problem here is this. If Dany doesn’t say “Cersei’s worse than me,” she’s made zero case for herself immediately after setting a battlefield on fire. Likewise, if she just says “Cersei’s worse than me” without giving specifics…well. Dany still set a battlefield on fire, where Cersei’s been kicking back in King’s Landing most of the season doing nothing worse than kill Tyene in front of Ellaria. It’s been more than a year real-time since we saw Cersei’s direct involvement in a mass atrocity, whereas the end of the last episode and the start of this one both focus on how much damage Dany just did.

But if Dany gives the logical specifics of “Cersei blew up your church, killing the highest holy man in the land, a beloved queen her daughter-in-law, and her own uncle and his men” that reminds everyone of the plothole.

(5:31) Note Tyrion’s reaction shot here; I’ll talk about that sort of thing a bit more in a few scenes. Here, though, in theory Dany’s turn to the hardline extremist isn’t a bad idea for her character. That’s where her book version looks to be heading. The problem is that we still do need something to set Dany apart from Cersei, and we haven’t seen Dany do anything here but pursue the throne for the throne’s sake. She talks about wanting to break the wheel and leave the world better than she found it, but she’s done pretty much nothing this season that supports this - unlike earlier seasons, where in spite of the executions and the missteps, we could connect those actions to the clear overarching goal of leaving the former Slaver’s Bay stable and free. We always knew what she was trying to do.

And yet again this is related to the Queen Cersei problem. This is why I call Queen Cersei a narrative black hole. As I said above, Dany can’t make the case that Cersei is a tyrant on the level of Aerys, and that she herself is a liberator in this scenario. Not without drawing attention to the fact that Cersei’s smashed every social norm of Westeros in her quest for power, and that if the society was depicted with any consistency, Cersei would have been dragged out of the Red Keep by angry mobs episodes ago.

This isn’t the entirety of the problem - an excellent place to show Dany’s positive agenda would be in her interactions with Jon Snow. Show Dany, like Jon, encouraging women to train as fighters. Show (or mention) her expanding peasant hunting rights, planning to rebuild septs and hospitals, ensuring better access to guilds (‘cause they’re going to need every carpenter, blacksmith, textile worker and tanner), taking an interest in winter stores, and so forth. There must be something concrete to show that Dany cares and is worth caring about, even if it’s subordinate to her goal of the throne.

(6:14) Randyll Tarly says, “I already have a queen.” Yes, he’s most certainly serving Cersei out of fear, as opposed to all these people who knelt to Dany when Drogon roared. It’s some damn shitty writing that has a character say “people serve Dany out of love and Cersei out of fear” and then a few episodes later show people defying a goddamn dragon for Cersei’s sake and others only kneeling because of said dragon.

(6:47) Hey Randyll. Psst, Randyll. Cersei murdered her uncle. (And she should probably be a suspect in her son’s death as well.) The kinslaying thing is not a point of distinction.

(6:53) Randyll here calls Dany a foreign invader with no ties to Westeros. Except, you know, the fact that she was born in Westeros, she was raised to think of herself as Westerosi, her family history is significantly linked to Westeros for the past three centuries…things like that.

(7:15) Ah, artificiality. “You cannot send me to the Wall. You are not my queen.” Not how it works! There is nothing stopping Dany from chaining him up and shipping him off. And this is actually a problem induced by Tyrion’s presence; unadvised, Dany may well not think to make the offer of the Watch. Instead, we’ve got “maybe send him to the Wall?” and Randyll going “no that is arbitrarily not an option,” so that Dany ends up killing him and Dickon both.

This is backwards. The rules of the setting in this show bend according to the needs of the plot. It is the plot that must bend to the rules of the setting.

(9:13) Deaths: 2. Randyll and Dickon Tarly, killed by Dany.

(9:52) Cut to Jaime here.

(9:59) Seven seconds of Jaime walking down a plain stone corridor later, something happens. Needless to say, this is a few seconds too many of Jaime walking down a plain stone corridor. It’s not even an interesting corridor, it’s not like we’re holding on a shot of a battlefield, or the harpies of Meereen, or a striking interpersonal tableau. It’s a corridor. It’s made of stone. We’d get the point Jaime was walking fast after two or three seconds. We don’t need seven.

This show is no longer doing its best to pack as much complex plot into a limited time.

(10:04) Making things worse, all that happened back at the 9:59 mark was Qyburn stuttering something. The action of this scene starts here, where Jaime bursts in on Cersei - the single movement gets his haste and emotional disturbance across, as well as the fact that he clearly hasn’t stopped to wash. That was basically twelve seconds for Jaime to build up the momentum to open a fucking door.

(11:10) Then a Jaime-and-Cersei scene again gets to the point nice and quickly, centred around an actual conflict. The Lannisters think their defeat is all but certain, and they aren’t in a position to make peace either.

(11:31) Followed up by a reveal with real personal impact, all fitting in to show the larger problem of a deteriorating relationship and two different value systems. It’s incredibly ironic that though the plot point of Queen Cersei is so damaging to the fabric of the worldbuilding, so many of Cersei and Jaime’s scenes together this season work to establish exterior problems and advance interior conflict. Belatedly, yes, but they actually do their job.

(11:56) “Which [of Joffrey or Tommen] would Margaery have been better able to control?” A reminder that Margaery raped and abused Tommen with the aim of gaining political power!

(12:22) And Jaime brings it nicely back to the original problem, with Cersei’s response of “fuck it” starting to make an impact on him.

(12:37) Once again, Jon Snow on the edge of a cliff, cloak blowing in the wind. He’s making up for all the time he lost in season six.

(13:18) This is probably the best Jon-and-Dany scene of the season, and if you could only get one right, you’d want it to be this one, where Jon encounters a dragon close up for the first time. (Obviously, you want to get more than one right.) It’s important not just to advancing the romance, but to advancing the reveal for later.

(14:11) Key to this is Dany actually showing concern for and interest in what’s going on.

(14:39) And actually smiling. Good lord. A romantic relationship that involves the parties being happy? Perish the thought.

(14:58) There’s a bit of the Jon staring at Dany that was missing from the last episode.

(15:24) “We both want to help people.” And you both ran into serious scripting errors when the writers told the audience how bad and terrible and evil your opponents were, and then showed other things going on instead. Nobody turned on the Boltons, and the people of King’s Landing seem pretty happy about Queen Cersei.

(15:42) The writers have got to have something in mind for the internal reveal that Jon died. They’ve got to.

(15:55) And magically appearing Jorah. Urgh. He doesn’t have a point! His story is over! We’re done with him! All he does now is add no-purpose awkwardness to a relationship between Jon and Dany that’s already awkward because of their political positions!

(16:30) “I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t [found a cure].” Oh, bullshit. He was perfectly fine hanging out with Dany when he had greyscale, and he’s perfectly fine ignoring her orders to stay away from her.

(17:01) Look at that, Bran’s actually doing something. It only took four episodes for him to find a use for his powers that wasn’t being cruel to the people around him.

(17:16) These ravens can also teleport, if the shots of them taking flight outside Winterfell and then flying north of the Wall is any guide.

(18:10) The Night King looking at the warged ravens is a good moment.

(19:15) “Somehow, a crippled boy survived for years beyond the Wall where no one else could. Not the wildlings, not the Night’s Watch, no one.” First, again into the timeline weeds with it apparently being years since season three. This is not my area of expertise, but I was definitely under the impression season four took place over something like a month, and most of season six in a similar sort of timeframe. Second, huh? How does Sam know where Bran went beyond the Wall, and why does he think nobody could survive there, not even the Free Folk?

Short answer: Sam couldn’t possibly know this, and he’s just channeling the knowledge of the writers. Because this is a badly-written show.

(20:06) Invited to argue to the meeting why the maesters should take Bran seriously, Sam flubs it. Oh, I know, I know, it’s presented as Sam presenting an obviously correct and reasonable idea. But seriously, there is neither logical flow nor actual argument to what Sam says. First he says they should take Sam seriously, then when Maester Broadbent invites him to elaborate on this point, Sam says what the Citadel can do.

(20:16) Indeed, Maester Broadbent’s response is “it’s possible.” He continues on to say that it’s also possible the news is part of a ploy by the Dragon Queen. (Which, you know, you could discover by authenticating the maester’s handwriting, so you’re not off the hook either, Maester Broadbent.)

The problem is that Sam hasn’t fucking mentioned why the Citadel should take Bran seriously. “Bran’s been beyond the Wall” is, in and of itself, not all that compelling when the Citadel is aware of thousands of Free Folk who’ve done the same.

(20:23) Then Sam has the nerve to frown and shake his head in horrified disbelief that the maesters could be so stupid. Well, mate. Next time, make an argument. Don’t tell us “X exists”, tell us “why X.” They can’t just go google this. Their ability to run source comparisons is limited. If you want them to believe you, you have to work for it.

I really don’t like this storyline. Sam’s an outright Mary Sue here. His actions are always correct, and the surrounding characters are judged by the narrative on how closely their opinions conform to Sam’s own.

(20:38) “I’ve seen it.”

What did you see, Sam? It? What the fuck is “it”? Did you see a copy of Stephen King’s 1986 novel? Did you see the 1990 miniseries? The 2017 movie? Or something else entirely? The audience might know what you saw, but the people in front of you sure don’t, because unlike the audience they don’t have the rest of the series downloaded, nor an episode guide to help them out, and when you tell them you’ve seen “it” you could be referring to just about anything. They need more than a pronoun to make a decision, and I do not blame them one bit for not finding your pronouns all that convincing.

(21:13) Sam doesn’t know what happened to his father and brother. I sense another future reveal.

(21:35) Tyrion drinks: 1. Speaking of characters who the narrative tells us are always right…

(21:54) “I am her Hand, not her head. I cannot make her decisions for her.” “That’s what I used to tell myself about her father.” Basically, the implication Varys is giving us here is that Tyrion should be Dany’s head.

This is also another “it’s funny because it’s meta” moments - Varys says he found the traitors, but he wasn’t the one burning them. Book!Varys was finding traitors everywhere. On purpose. To poke Aerys into self-destructing.

(22:39) Doubling down on the implication. “Daenerys is not her father.” “And she never will be. With the right counsel.” Tyrion is all that stands between Dany and her impulse to tyranny. It’s on Tyrion not just to make sure Dany gets good advice and all the knowledge he has of Westeros, but to make her a good queen. The burden of her character development has fallen to him.

I can’t say it enough that this is shitty writing for both of them. Dany’s character development should not be given over to Tyrion so that he can do it better; Tyrion’s character development should not be vanished and made contingent on another.

(22:46) Tyrion refilled the goblet, so Tyrion drinks: 2.

(22:56) “It’s a sealed scroll for the King in the North.”

(23:03) And the punchline is left hanging for seven seconds. “What’s it say?” It wasn’t such a clever joke that we needed seven seconds for the complex set-up of this gag to sink in.

(23:18) “I thought Arya was dead. I thought Bran was dead.” And he’s just so happy to learn they’re at home, safe and reasonably well. Let Jon and Dany smile at each other, please. It can’t hurt the romance to see them being happy in the other’s happiness.

(23:40) “We’ll fight with the men we have.” Worked out just fine last time!

(24:06) We’re doing this! The genius wight-trapping plan. Written pretty much entirely to get Viserion killed off, because goodness knows not much else of use was accomplished here.

(24:37) Varys here points out that Cersei’s not much for negotiating in good faith. So here’s the other option that must be at least considered - stepping up the war against Cersei.

(25:37) Jon volunteers for the mission, and Dany gets upset. That escalated fast. They’ve had, what, four conversations in total, with little room for them to have interacted more offscreen? And only two of those conversations had anything like intimacy in them?

(25:46) Oh, and Jon keeps using the wrong justifications for going. Instead of “I’m the only one here who’s fought them,” try “we need the Free Folk, and they won’t cooperate with me if I send other people to do this job.”

(26:25) “Now I’m asking you to trust in a stranger.” It’s lines like that that really emphasise the close emotional connection Jon and Dany have forged over the past few episodes! (This should have been, “Now I’m asking you to trust in a [friend/ally/partner].”)

(27:01) From goofily incompetent writing to just unappealingly incompetent writing, we return to Winterfell, where the writers are engaged in another bout of “we meant to do that!” as the Northern lords say that maybe they should have considered Sansa as their queen.

(27:07) The Knights of the Vale came here for Sansa…so what do we need Littlefinger for, again?

(27:30) The ominous music starts up as Arya glares at Sansa. The timing of the ominous music confuses the matter; if we’re supposed to think that Sansa was considering the offer of queenship, that cue needed to be earlier. As it is, the music tells us that it’s Arya who’s the threat in this situation.

(27:55) “These are mother and father’s chambers.” That could have been a much better moment than it was - instead of Arya jumping to the ludicrous conclusions she jumps to, she could have had it brought home in this small intimate way that their parents are dead and life moves on.

(28:09) This is the worst goddamn plot of the season. It really is, and I say that having ranted extensively about Sam’s. Arya just goes straight to vicious personal attacks on Sansa for no reason. So fuck what if Sansa likes nice things?

(28:33) Sansa’s arguments here are pretty much unassailable. It is her job to listen to the complaints of Jon’s bannermen. It is much smarter to sit there and take some grumbling when the alternative is maybe losing the whole army.

And Arya’s counter to these very solid arguments is “Fuck it, kill them.” I do not know what this was in aid of. Why is it a good idea to pit these two against each other? Why are they even fighting? Was Arya meant to come off as murderously unreasonable and unreasonably murderous? Because that’s what it looks like!

Yes, it’s another example of the writers not able to manage two smart people in one scene.

(28:42) “Winterfell didn’t just fall into our hands.” Ha! Ha!

(29:07) Yes! Yes, if Jon does not come back, Sansa will need their support so they can all work together! This is a true thing! I do not know why Arya is saying it as though it’s some huge crime of Sansa’s. Of course there needs to be a plan for what happens if Jon dies. It is not remotely evidence of treason or potential treason, not even when you take into account that Sansa might want to be queen.

The direction for Maisie Williams is also atrocious, here. She’s not coming off as menacing, or even cold, but smug and self-satisfied. Smug and self-satisfied that she’s hurt her sister’s feelings after accusing that sister of wanting their brother dead.

(29:54) Oh, snap. The writers did remember that Tyrion bears a decent chunk of responsibility for the death of Davos’ son. This episode, anyway. I actually don’t mind the way it’s played; it’s almost refreshing to have a character go “well, this personal tragedy takes a backseat to greater necessity.” It’d be even better if the writers had remembered that there was a personal tragedy with any sort of consistency.

(30:21) Without foreshadowing or logistics, Tyrion has got in touch with Bronn. Don’t ask how. It’s not worth it. We cut to Bronn and Jaime here.

(30:51) And Tyrion enters the scene here, after thirty seconds of banter. Edit, people. Edit. The banter added next to nothing to the scene. It just gave Bronn more lines. All we needed was Jaime asking something to the effect of “Why are we going down here? I was preparing for the imminent arrival of the Dothraki.” The writers are pretty bloody enamoured of their own cleverness, and it shows up with Bronn a lot.

(32:05) Can’t complain about the acting here on either side.

(32:45) “She has a more important request.” And cut away. For all the good acting, it has to come attached to plot. This isn’t the worst example we’ll see of this all season, not by a mile, since other scenes give the cut-out bit context - but the writers’ habits of having characters stand around and hash out their characters (we know why Tywin wanted Tyrion dead) rather than progress the plot needed to be stomped on long ago.

(32:45) Cut to Davos wandering through a smithy.

(33:20) And effective Gendry reveal. Thirty-five seconds well spent. No way that could have been cut down?

(33:31) “I thought you might still be rowing.” It’s funny because it’s meta. It’s also funny because the showrunners forgot about this character for several seasons.

(33:42) “I looked in shops, taverns, brothels - should have known to come to the Street of Steel.” Hey, look at that! The one line does all the work of the thirty-five seconds of Davos wandering around.

(34:26) Gendry jumping at the call is pretty adorable, though.

(35:10) Scene with Davos and Gendry on the beach starts here.

(38:01) Deaths: 3. Gendry kills a goldcloak.

(38:03) Deaths: 4. Gendry kills the other goldcloak.

(38:16) I went quiet there for a few minutes. You know why? Because nothing of interest or importance was happening. Absolutely nothing. The only thing that might have been relevant was Davos advising Gendry to keep his parentage on the down-low, but other than that it was basically a random encounter. It did not challenge the protagonists. It did not reveal anything to them. It had no impact on matters external to them. It should not have been in the episode.

Over three minutes of utterly wasted time. Great.

(38:51) I really do like how over the course of the season Jaime becomes less and less comfortable with Cersei. Now he’s outright worried about telling her that he met with Tyrion.

(39:35) Night and day. Night and fucking day. Even when Cersei’s talking about what Jaime intends to do with Bronn, which does not affect the stuff with Dany, it comes back to a) Cersei’s skewed priorities and b) Cersei’s increasing viciousness. There is work being done with these lines.

(39:39) “Do you think anything of importance happens in this city without me knowing?” Soooooo…which Cersei are we dealing with this scene? The master manipulator or the vicious unhinged tyrant? Because I find it hard to believe that the Cersei who just asked if Jaime was going to punish Bronn would be so complacent about Gendry’s presence in town if she knew about it…

(40:00) “If we’re going to beat her we have to be clever about it. We have to fight [Dany] like [Tywin] would have.” So, you know, we’re still on the ‘the Red Wedding was a great idea’ thing, and Tywin the ur-politician of the setting.

(40:20) Speaking of timelines. Jaime was 40 back at the start of season four. Obviously, this means Cersei was also 40 back in season four. Years have passed since then, according to Sam, and if we go with the clearly-not-true-but-let’s-go-with-it one season equals one year model, Cersei’s between 43 and 44. Cersei’s pregnant now. Not impossible. What I do find nigh unbelievable is that nobody mentions Cersei’s age. The (male) writers aren’t thinking about the consequences of a pregnancy, nor even how Cersei might feel about having a child at such an unlikely age after she’s buried three/four children already, but about relationship drama. That scene was about Jaime.

(40:41) “People won’t like that.” Meaning people won’t like Cersei saying that her child and heir is Jaime’s as well. And no, they won’t. Confirmation of the incest thing would have been enough to topple any of Joffrey, Tommen, or Myrcella - but who cares about continuity?

(41:20) Just to make sure we know that that three minute scene with the goldcloaks and the fermented crab was useless, Davos repeats the only line of substance and renders it utterly redundant.

(41:42) It’s a crying shame that Gendry “you’d be m’lady” Waters became so pro-Robert over his seasons away.

(42:04) But that said, it’s nice to see people smiling and getting along and willing to take chances with their trust.

(43:42) You’re right, Tyrion, I don’t believe it. I disbelieve it on principle when people say they missed Jorah. That piece of shit. Why is he here, again? I could have sworn he was out of story.

(44:04) “Our queen needs you.” For what, and why? Jorah is out of story. And Dany’s succeeded and failed with and without Jorah. She’s had functional relationships with and without Jorah - no thanks to Jorah, of course.

(44:23) Oh, that’s why Jorah’s here. Artificial tension with Jon! Well, don’t sweat, Jorah, Jon called himself a stranger to Dany a few scenes ago.

(44:46) “I wish you good fortune in the wars to come, your grace.” Goddammit. Stop it with that line. It’s not so good that you have to repeat it that often!

Also, wow, that was a bland and unremarkable farewell between those two. Not helped by the fact that we see Jorah looking back at Dany…and not Jon.

(45:42) “Guess how many steps there are in the Great Sept of Baelor.” “None anymore.” People are terrified of Cersei. Very disturbed about how violent she is.

(46:04) The other bad thing in the episode. (Keep in mind the standards of ‘bad’ I’m working with.) Septon Maynard wrote down that he issued an annulment for a “Prince Ragger” and remarried him to someone else at the same time. Elia got screwed, and the show’s portrayal demonstrates a real lack of thought.

Because it’s really not hard to see how much of an asshole Rhaegar was, if he out and out annulled his marriage to Elia. The marriage never legally happened. His kids with her? Bastards, as of that decree, since there was no wedlock for them to be born into. Bad enough that he’d do that to his wife and kids in peacetime, but then he left them in the Red Keep with his murderous dad! Who kept them hostage, in part to assure that Elia’s brother would fight for the Targaryens! We also get the detail that this marriage ceremony was held in Dorne. Elia’s homeland. Classy. I’ll talk more about Elia’s significance in the depiction of R+L=J when we get to 7.07.

It’s also a timeline/worldbuilding snafu. And snafu is the term I want, because it is perfectly normal for the showrunners to forget that back around this time, everyone wanted to know where Rhaegar and Lyanna were, on account of the impending war; that annullments aren’t so easy to issue as ticking a box; that we need to account for travel time to and from Dorne plus the absence of the High Septon from King’s Landing; and so on and so forth.

(46:29) Well, that line about the secret to defeating the Night King for good sitting on a dusty shelf ignored was intentional irony, and I think it just about brained me as it fell anvil-like from the sky.

(47:15) The riveting “breaking into the Restricted Section again” scene. It loses impact when it’s the second such scene.

(47:51) If I didn’t hate Sam’s storyline so much, I’d feel bad at his feeling bad over leaving a library as cool as that.

(48:20) Then as he drives away from the Citadel, Sam repeats his father’s words about reading about the achievements of better men. God I hate show!Sam. There’s your existential defeat. Sam didn’t learn the best of the Citadel’s traditions while rejecting the bad parts, becoming the best possible maester he could be and the best possible help to the other characters; he learned that he was right all along and the maesters were stuffy old nerds like his anti-intellectual dad always said.

(48:42) Littlefinger meets with a random person. It is clandestine. Arya watches from the shadows.

(50:01) “Maester Luwin’s archives are very thorough.” Convenient that they didn’t get burned along with most of the rest of Winterfell.

We know with hindsight that this scene shouldn’t be mistaken for Littlefinger doing anything. Once again, he’s just kind of there, because with the utter mutilation of Sansa’s arc, he’s got jack shit to do around here. Thus far this season, Littlefinger has given away a knife (which made no sense) and received a letter (which, as we’ll find out, also makes no sense). Otherwise it’s all hanging around walls antagonising people.

(52:06) This is the letter that Sansa was forced to send from King’s Landing following Ned’s arrest. Again, I’ll get into the implications later, when the narrative’s take on this becomes more apparent.

(52:26) Also, Arya continues to be a terrible assassin, as Littlefinger turns the tables on her with ease. It’s just not a sequence of Arya sneaking around without her fucking it up bad!

(52:45) After more than fifty minutes of episode named “Eastwatch”, we arrive at Eastwatch.

(52:54) Nope, turns out Tormund thinks Jon going on this mission is a bad idea too. With this sort of reinforcement, the only logical conclusion is that indeed, Jon’s participation on this mission was a stupid fucking idea, and he should not be doing it. Jon looks even stupider for hearing this advice from multiple people and going ahead anyway.

(54:06) So much recognising of people from earlier seasons, so little emotional resonance. This is because the people who care about each other aren’t spending time together. It’s at one remove.

(54:21) I say that, and immediately Gendry comes up with a much more emotional and compelling reaction! Thanks, Gendry!

(55:26) “There’s a greater purpose at work.” Yeah, the railroad plot tracks you all are tied to.

(57:03) And so we end the episode with our adventuring party heading off into a howling blizzard, this bad idea raid in search of evidence for a bad idea meeting. None of them with hats on, of course. They didn’t need their ears anyway.

Thanks to someone reminding me, I am adding my rules here so as to not clog everything up.

No overly NSFW stuff. Innuendos and suggestive stuff is fine, but I hold the right to not respond to overly NSFW asks.

Considering this is a Persona blog, there will occasionally be gore, however, it won’t be focused on.

Black Star is friendly towards everyone, which can lead to some very unexpected occurrences like the Vegetables Incident.

Do not expect Black Star to remind friendly when you piss him off, in fact, expect an ax to be thrown at you if you anger Black Star.

The Phantom Thieves are still in action. This can lead to some talk of ‘Could X Character have a palace?’ so forewarning on that front, in case it makes you uncomfortable.

No God-Modding. Although, let me know if I write something that could come across as god modding. I usually avoid doing that, but I sometimes write something I think doesn’t come across as god modding, but it could to you.

On a much more related note, I am open to shipping Black Star with other muses. However, I will not ship Black Star with muses over the age of 18, so remember that. More descriptors for my muses under the cut.

Important notes regarding this Black Star!

Current Ask Status: Available

- This Black Star is more timid, respectful, and quieter, to an extent. He won’t hesitate to say when something is a bad idea, though

- Other major note: Black Star’s adoptive father only judged Black Star by the value Black Star had to him, so he has some self worth issues from time to time, although they are rare. This also means he can spot abusive behavior from parents easier because of his worth to his adoptive father being something that was hammered into his head when he was younger.

Oh hell yeah. (twice? I guess?) One was way back in like middle school, my ex-gf from Russia apparently cheated on me with my best friend? And... I... Just happened to find them together my second trip back to visit family? I mean, to be fair, I knew it wouldn’t last, and I think I was going to break it off during those 3 weeks I was there but still? It still hurt? The second one was (what I considered) my first serious relationship. It was in high school, and I just got over (the above) so I finally gathered up the courage to ask her out one day when we were hanging out her first day back from a long trip she took. And everything seemed to be fine? I was happy, I thought she was too? (We only went one one official date I think) but it was nice. We never became exclusive tbh. I figured that was fine, though. Then I asked her out to go for a Valentine’s day date (I had a pretty elaborate date planned out tbh) and... then she dumped me? Keep in mind I don’t even think it lasted 2 months? And so I spent the next 2-3 months being more depressed than ever (this is the period of time where everything shitty happened. we had to put down our dog because of old age, and the cat that was mine since I was a little kid that we had to leave in Russia died because my aunt left him in the cold to freeze one night, so it wasn’t just a bad heartbreak lol, I think that was the lowest point I’ve ever been) And I think what made it worse was that like 2 weeks after she ended things, she was dating another dude (who I always thought was an ass, tbh) which didn’t exactly make me feel better lol. Sorry, I really went on a full rant again. And once again, I’ve completely forgiven both parties in this regard. It took ages to get over though, and after starving myself for months, I ended up gaining a helluva lot of wait since then. (Here is the breakdown: Started off at 160, dropped to a solid 145 in 3 months, then was quite a bit over 200 by the end of senior year of HS. I’m like 220 now, and that’s after I shedded a bit of weight) Anyway sorry, I try not to be depressing I swear!

SMA Bamon AU Drabble - Meeting during their teen years by @attolirene

I didn’t send that ask MEANING to write this but…I did anyway. So here’s a Bamon-y drabble from an AU of your AU where they meet during their respective destructive phases.

I’m not sure how old Damon was supposed to be when the stuff with Katherine went down, so this might be wildly off by several years? And it’s not supposed to be shippy–Bonnie’s 15 and Damon’s 18, which happens in high school but still squicks me out–but it is supposed to be a sorta character study thing.

SO what I’m trying to say is, I hope you like this lmao.

Damon noticed people. It wasn’t a conscious thing; if he saw the same person more than once, he’d remember them. Pick up on their habits. Didn’t matter how unremarkable they were. It was probably a defense mechanism, hypervigilance or some bullshit like that.

And the girl he kept seeing at parties recently wasn’t what he’d call unremarkable. Damon had seen her show up with Klaus and Enzo, who he knew mostly through reputation. He’d wondered at first what she was doing with them. She seemed a few years younger, and definitely less comfortable with the scene.

Then he’d actually seen her in action. The girl–Bethany, Brianna, something like that–always seemed to be in the center of things, getting the most fucked up, doing the most outrageous shit.

So what was she doing lurking around the peripherals of this house party, exactly?

Not that Damon could talk. Katherine had disappeared into a corner with someone else a while ago. She’d made it abundantly clear that they weren’t exclusive, but–

Well. It wasn’t the same, without her. So he leaned against the wall near where B-whoever stood by the fireplace, and watched as she very deliberately knocked an expensive glass ornament off the mantelpiece to shatter on the brick hearth. She stared at it for a second, took a swig from her cup, and reached out a finger toward a second ornament.

“Are you part cat or something?” he asked.

B-whoever turned to face him and gave him a thoroughly unimpressed once-over. “Is that supposed to be a line?”

Damon smirked back. “It was supposed to be an honest question. But hey, if you want it to be…”

“Nope.”

Damon chuckled, shrugged, leaned back against the wall. “Your loss.” Though really she looked–what, thirteen? Fourteen? Too young for him, anyway.

B rolled her eyes. Her gaze flicked away from him out to the crowd, but she settled in beside him at the wall, her arm brushing against his. Damon couldn’t tell if it was deliberate or just a drunken lack of spacial awareness.

“Where are your friends?” Damon asked. At B’s blank look, he elaborated, “Klaus and Enzo. You usually come with them, right?”

“They couldn’t be here.” Bonnie shrugged. “Figured I’d come on my own. Turns out, it’s a lot more boring to be at a party where you don’t know anyone.” She wrinkled her nose and took another swig of her drink. “What about you? Fell out with the girlfriend?”

Damon blinked. He hadn’t expected her to notice him. Then again, he had dashing good looks on his side. “Katherine’s busy. And she’s not my girlfriend.”

“Ah. Explains that, then.” B nodded to the side of the room where Damon had been pointedly not looking all evening. Where Katherine was leaning against the wall, someone’s hands shoved up under her shirt, her skirt pushed up her thighs.

Jealousy flared, bright and hot, in Damon’s stomach, and he swallowed it down with a swig of his beer. It wasn’t his business. She wasn’t his girlfriend, wasn’t his. And it was pointless to get too attached; that was one of the first things she had taught him.

“Yep,” Damon said, and turned back to the kid.

The detachment in her eyes had turned to amusement. Huh. He hadn’t pegged her for a sadist.

Then she abruptly leaned forward, all four feet of her in his personal space. “If you’re looking for a distraction,” she said, aiming for a sexy purr, not quite confident enough to pull it off, “Pretty sure there’s an empty room somewhere in here.”

She was trying very hard to be sexy, and it was how obviously fake that was, more than anything, that had Damon gently pushing her away. Jesus. “First of all, kid,” he said, “you’re about twelve.”

Her eyes narrowed. “I’m eighteen.”

Damon raised an eyebrow.

B huffed. “Fine. Fifteen.”

That, he could believe, though she still seemed too tiny for it. “Yeah. And I still have standards. Second–not interested.” He’d tried sleeping with other girls during times when Katherine wasn’t into him. It didn’t help, and after the third time he was slapped for saying the wrong name, Damon had given up.

B looked very steadily at him, then at where he knew Katherine was currently getting some action, then back at him. “So it’s like that.”

She was perceptive. Fan-fucking-tastic.

Bonnie looking even younger than she is, having that drive to be taken seriously as a ‘bad’ kid, Damon noticing everything around him and her noticing everything back (possibly to better mimic the people around her, possibly because that’s just the level of focus she puts on anything she’s set her mind to, vs. I think Damon, like you said, notices everything all the time no matter what as a survival instinct), his relationship with Katherine (which I’ve struggled to narrow down a bit in my head and this just felt really, really perfect), the age gap you gave between her and Enzo/Klaus (not sure I ever said that but I ABSOLUTELY saw it that way, like these two notorious seniors or maybe even older, like Enzo’s a senior and Klaus is like 20/21, who are hanging out with this 14/15 year old girl and it’s just extra sketchy), their interaccccction (dying over how perfectly you captured Damon, like you just snuck in that noble streak and how it clashed with the lifestyle he’d chosen for himself but still stubbornly persisted anyway - particularly evident in the last two lines. Loooooved those so much). Loved that he wanted to warn her instinctively but then the learned ‘fuck it nothing matters’ behavior kicked in. Loved that he recognized his own hypocrisy. LOVED THAT HE CALLED HER KID THE WHOLE TIME. And loved his observations of Bonnie trying so hard and having this artificiality to her ‘sexiness’ - it felt so, so accurate. I always find it super weird when 15 year olds trying to be sexy are described as being super seductive/pull it off - everyone’s still pretty awkward/mimicking what they see on TV at that age, man.

Meet the Markles: A Comprehensive Timeline of Meghan’s Family Drama

Since the beginning of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal romance, Markle’s family — in particular, her half-siblings and father, Thomas Markle— have been more than willing to give their two cents about the Duchess of Sussex. Here is a look at the family drama that has occurred since the royal romance began.

Meet the Family

Before we dive into this sordid timeline, let’s go over its key players:

Doria Ragland is Meghan’s mother. Doria and Meghan’s father, Thomas, divorced when Meghan was six years old. Doria has met Prince Harry, and he thinks that she is “amazing.”

Thomas Markle Sr. is Meghan’s father. The former lighting director filled for bankruptcy in 2016, which has turned to one of the same sources of family accusations against Meghan. He now lives a seemingly laid back life in Mexico.

Samantha Grant (who now goes by Markle) is Meghan’s half-sister. They have the same father, and Samantha is 17 years older than Meghan. She has been the most outspoken member of Meghan’s family since her courtship with Harry in 2016. She is said to be writing a memoir called “The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister.” According to Samantha, it is less a tell-all and more to do “with the interracial evolution of this country through the lens of my life and my family since the civil rights act until present.” Keep in mind that while Meghan Markle is bi-racial, her half-siblings are not.

December 28, 2017: Markle’s siblings slam Harry for saying the royals are “the family she never had”

Meghan’s siblings were quick to respond to a BBC interview in which Prince Harry referred to the royals as “the family [Meghan] never had.” Brother Thomas Jr., told the Daily Mail that their father was “extremely hurt” over this comment and that “obviously, she had a family. She was very privileged. She got everything she ever wanted.” Half-sister Samantha also responded via her Twitter account (which she has now made private), saying: “Actually she has a large family who were always there with her and for her. Our household was very normal and when dad and Doria divorced, we all made it so it was like she had two houses. No one was estranged ,she was just too busy. Read my book complete with facts and photos.”

Half-sister Samantha did an interview with In Touch in which she claims that Meghan owes much of her success to their father, saying that “he gave her so much of who she is.” She then went on to call out her half-sister about not helping their father with his financial troubles, mentioning the $75,000 Ralph & Russo gown Meghan wore in her engagement photos. “If you can spend $75,000 on a dress, you can spend $75,000 on your dad.” She also added that Meghan’s mother Doria has become “possessive and controlling” over her daughter.

Feb 5, 2018: Samantha says that she’s disappointed in Meghan

In an interview with Australian news show A Current Affair, Samantha once again called out Meghan for not helping their father financially since he declared bankruptcy in 2016. “I don’t think that he feels that she owes him but, that is how I see it,” said Samantha. She then went on to seemingly discredit Meghan’s philanthropic work by saying that she’s seen “a lot of situations where celebrities visit a place that is poverty stricken and they’re wearing impeccable clothing. They themselves are wealthy, and it really feels like a photo opportunity. So it’s a little exploitive in my mind.”

February 8, 2018: Thomas Jr. says that Meghan is “ignoring” his plea for help

Meghan’s brother Thomas Jr. told In Touch magazine that he has received no help from his younger sibling in light of her royal engagement. According to Tom Jr. the connection to Meghan has caused a lot of media scrutiny for him and his family. “There was a time where people were following me around at work, taking pictures and posting horrible stories about me and my family saying I’m a white supremacist, a drug addict and a dealer, all this crap that just isn’t true,” said Thomas Jr. His lawyer has been in contact with the palace lawyers in hopes of getting some help with the negative press, but the interactions have been less than successful.

February 24, 2018: Samantha’s ex-husband speaks out

Samantha Markle’s ex-husband, Scott Rasmussen, told The Mirror that the royal couple should refrain from inviting the bride’s half-sister to their nuptials. According to Rasmussen, his “fame hungry” ex-wife is exaggerating her relationship with Meghan. “Harry and Meghan need to know the truth about her. She’s the last person who should be at Windsor Castle,” said Rasmussen. Rasmussen also said that his ex-wife “should act with some dignity, keep her mouth shut, and leave everybody else alone.” Samantha responded by saying that Rasmussen “wants to take advantage of my sister’s high profile. Scott vowed to get revenge when we got divorced. He is saying anything he can right now to disparage me.”

Mar 11, 2018: Brother Thomas Jr. does not receive wedding invite

An inside source told UK news outlet Express that Meghan’s brother, Thomas Jr., will not be invited to her wedding. The source said that her brother did not receive an invite due to all the interviews he has done with the media about his sister. “If he would quit talking to the media, Meghan would probably be more into the idea of inviting him,” said the source.

March 26: Meghan’s nephew and former sister-in-law confirm that they won’t be going to the wedding

Meghan’s nephew Tyler Dooley and his mother Tracy have revealed that they have not been invited to the royal wedding, according to an interview with Good Morning Britain. However, Tyler remains optimistic, saying, “At this point, who knows? This all goes back to Meghan, it’s her day and her happiness.” Tyler’s mother Tracy, who was married to Meghan’s half-brother Thomas Jr., added, “I don’t think we’re going to get an invitation, and that’s fine. We’re OK with that and we’re supporting her. We’re so proud of her.”

March 28 2018: Meghan’s estranged family are revealed as wedding correspondents

An inside source told Us Weekly that Meghan’s half-sister Samantha, nephew Tyler and ex-sister-in-law Tracy are planning to fly to London to be correspondents for the royal wedding.

April 14, 2018: Meghan’s nephew begins making commemorative cannabis

Tyler Dooley, son of Thomas Jr., is planning to make a special hybrid of weed to celebrate his aunt’s wedding, appropriately named The Markle Sparkle. If for some reason the couple would like to try the custom cannabis, he told the Daily Mail that he would be “more than happy” to supply them with a sample, providing they come to Oregon where Dooley is a licensed medical marijuana grower.

April 23, 2018: Meghan’s niece begs family to leave Meghan alone

Meghan’s niece has spoken out in hopes that her family will leave her aunt alone, according to Metro UK. The estranged daughter of Meghan’s half-sister Samantha said she is “embarrassed” by her mother’s actions and that her mom’s interest in having a relationship with Meghan came after she started dating Prince Harry. “She wanted to be nice, to be friends, to say how much she loves her sister – but after years of telling me and the rest of the family how much she hates Meghan, how much of a narcissist Meghan apparently is and what a horrible woman Meghan is, which isn’t true at all.”

May 2, 2018: Thomas Jr. tells Harry not to marry Meghan

Meghan Markle’s half-brother has sent a letter to future brother-in-law Prince Harry as a final plea to call off the wedding. “Meghan Markle is obviously not the right [woman] for you,” he writes in a letter shared exclusively with In Touch. He then goes on to accuse her of abandoning their father after using him for money. “She easily forgets if it wasn’t for my father she would be [bussing] tables and babysitting to pay her old debt off.”

May 4, 2018: Palace confirms that Meghan’s parents will have roles in her wedding

Days after Meghan’s half-brother told Prince Harry and In Touch magazine that their father was snubbed, Kensington Palace confirmed that both Markle’s mom and dad will have roles in her wedding. “On the morning of the wedding, Ms. Ragland will travel with Ms. Markle by car to Windsor Castle. Mr. Markle will walk his daughter down the aisle of St. George’s Chapel. Ms. Markle is delighted to have her parents by her side on this important and happy occasion,” wrote a Kensington Palace spokesman.

May 12, 2018: Thomas Markle Sr. begins staging paparazzi photographs

Photos of Meghan’s father taken by “paparazzi” turned out to be taken by photographer Jeff Rayner in collusion with Thomas Sr. himself. The Daily Mail reported that the pair was caught on the security camera of an internet cafe in Mexico staging a photo of him looking at images of his daughter and Prince Harry. Other photos that were proven to be staged include him being measured by a “tailor” (who turned out to be an assistant at a party goods store), browsing through a book about English landmarks at a Starbucks, and lifting weights. It’s reported that Meghan’s father could have received up to £100,000 for the photos.

May 14, 2018: Meghan’s father pulls out of wedding, reveals he had a heart attack

After he was caught staging photographs with paparazzi, Thomas Markle Sr. has said he will not attend his daughter’s wedding, telling TMZ that his motives for the images were not “principally about money.” He was hoping improve his image but now he “deeply regrets” it. The report also revealed that Meghan’s father had suffered a heart attack six days earlier, but checked himself out of the hospital so that he could attend the wedding. However, the embarrassment of the photo scandal has led to him opting out of walking his daughter down the aisle.

May 14, 2018: Half-sister Samantha takes credit for staged photos

On the same day, Samantha Markle did an interview with British TV show Loose Women, defending her father and taking responsibility for the staged photos. “I have to say that I am entirely the culprit. As we know, the media can take very unflattering photographs on their casual days and blow it way out of proportion… I said ‘you need to show the world that you’re getting in shape and doing great, healthy things,’” said Samantha. She then went on to say that the plan was not money motivated and that if her father did receive any compensation for the photos it would be “a pittance.” She also confirmed that the last time she and Meghan spoke was in 2015, when she called Meghan to talk about their father.

May 15, 2018: Samantha gets called out by Piers Morgan

Samantha returned to Good Morning Britain for an interview with a less-than complimentary Piers Morgan. On the show, she confirmed that the last time the sisters saw each other was in 2008, and that their last contact was a phone conversation in 2015. Samantha then went on to blame the media for her father’s heart attack as well as the negative portrayal of their family. Piers was having none of it, and responded by saying, “We can’t respect it coming from a woman who’s been trading her very tenuous relationship with Meghan Markle, who’s had one conversation with her in ten years and has been popping up on the world’s airwaves…Some may say it’s pretty rich coming from you, Samantha Markle, to come on television and blame media vultures.” Samantha then went on to tell Piers that he shouldn’t believe everything he reads just because it’s in quotes. Yikes.

May 15, 2018: Some of the family arrives in London

Also on this day, Meghan’s nephews and former sister-in-law were photographed arriving at London’s Heathrow airport. Though they have not received invitations to the royal wedding, it has been previously speculated that they are going to be TV correspondents on Meghan and Harry’s special day.

May 15, 2018: Thomas Sr. is having surgery

Finally, Thomas Sr. told TMZ that he has changed his mind and now wants to walk Meghan down the aisle. However, he has to undergo heart surgery this week which means it’s unlikely that he will be able to make it to the nuptials. To really add to things, Meghan’s father said that the open letter his son sent to Prince Harry at the beginning of the month is what triggered his heart problems. The article also revealed that, according to Samantha, her father did receive compensation for the staged photographs—around $1,500 plus royalties (pun intended?).

May 16, 2018: Thomas Sr. heads in for surgery and Samantha Markle does another interview

As it stands, Meghan’s father’s surgery is said to be scheduled for this morning. In the meantime, Samantha Markle had a chat with TMZ about, you guessed it, Meghan Markle. The interviewer tells Samantha that Meghan has reportedly made it clear that she does not want her half-sister to be speaking to the press. “There’s something in this country known as free speech. She doesn’t have a copyright on that and she’s not going to tell me that I can’t speak my own life or my father’s where it’s a matter of public self defence because the media is disparaging us… She’s way out of her league to tell me that I can’t speak,” responded Samantha.

Samantha then went on to say that she and her half-sister do not have a relationship as of the past year, blaming the media for their falling out. However, if we look back just two days, Samantha confirmed that the last time the sisters spoke was in 2015. I’m so confused.

May 16, 2018: Samantha Markle in car crash after “paparazzi confrontation”

Half-sister Samantha has been in a car accident after an alleged run-in with the paparazzi, according to TMZ. Samantha’s boyfriend, Mark, told TMZ that he swerved into a concrete barrier after a photographer swerved in front of them in hopes of getting a clear shot. Mark then drove Samantha (who is said to have a broken ankle and fractured knee from the accident) to the hospital.

May 16, 2018: Thomas Sr. is out of surgery

Also in the hospital? Meghan Markle’s father, who just had surgery after suffering a heart attack eight days ago. TMZ spoke to Thomas Sr. after his surgery, where he said “I’m ok. It will take a long time to heal. Staying in the hospital a few more days. Not allowed to get excited.”

May 17, 2018: Meghan Markle confirms that her father will NOT be at the wedding

This morning, Meghan Markle released a statement confirming that her father will not be attending the wedding. “I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health,” reads the statement. There has been no word yet on who will be walking Meghan down the aisle, but there is speculation that it could be her mom, Prince William or Prince Charles.

Kensington Palace has announced that Prince Charles, Harry’s father, will walk Meghan down the aisle at their wedding. This news comes just one day before the couple’s wedding. The statement reads that Meghan asked Prince Charles if he would walk her down the aisle and that Charles is “pleased to be able to welcome Ms. Markle to The Royal Family in this way.”

May 18, 2018: “No evidence” found of Samantha Markle’s crash

According to local law enforcement in Florida, they have been unable to find any proof of the “paparazzi confrontation” that lead to a car accident for Samantha Markle and her boyfriend. “We can’t find any reports basically from all of central Florida. We can’t find a report by name or a scenario that was similar to this,” Lt. Kim Montes told the DailyMail.com. Furthermore if Markle’s boyfriend, Mark, did hit a barricade and failed to report it, he could be charged with a hit-and-run under Florida law and face up to two months in jail.

May 22, 2018: Samantha Markle takes to Twitter

Samantha has returned to Twitter to give her two-sense about her half-sister’s royal wedding. Most of the critique was targeted to Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, who she said “looked more like the hockey player in the penalty box” at the wedding. She also tweeted how it was “ridiculous” that she was sitting by herself at the ceremony and accused her of being a sell-out. Doria wasn’t the only subject of Samantha’s critique, she then went on to slam the bride after it was reported that Meghan didn’t mention her father in her toast. “So she didn’t mention my dad and his shout out at the reception either? I guess she ignored the bishop’s sermon about love and forgiveness,” tweeted Markle. She then compared the royal family to the Addams family “but with billions of dollars.”

Meghan Markle’s coat of arms was revealed this past week, and Samantha Markle is NOT impressed. In her latest take to Twitter, Samantha said that it “looks like it was drawn by someone in a kindergarten classroom”. Yikes. But that’s not all, Samantha then went to go on to attack Meghan, saying that the new coat of arms does not suit her. Her main issue appeared to be with the three quills that are said to represent communication. “She does not communicate with people she cuts people out of her life including a best friend of 30 years and two speeches in her whole lifetime does not make her a public speaker,” said one tweet. Along with “Her degrees are in drama and foreign affairs and only a bachelor degree,” and “Her motto is say nothing and she cut everyone off.”

Speaking of Meghan’s “only a bachelor degree,” her university education makes her one of two royal brides in the history of the British Monarchy to receive a university education. She is accompanied by sister-in-law Kate Middleton who has a master’s degree in Art History.

June 18, 2018: Thomas Markle Sr. has his first tell-all interview

Thomas Markle Sr. opted to speak with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on Good Morning Britain for his first tell-all interview. In the world exclusive, Thomas Sr. speaks about his relationship with the royal family, missing his daughter’s wedding and, most surprisingly, Prince Harry’s political affiliations.

Clearly, Markle’s father is unaware of the longstanding tradition of royals avoiding political talk. Or, he just doesn’t care. Speaking about a phone call with his daughter and Prince Harry, Thomas Sr. shares that he and the British royal discussed President Donald Trump. “Our conversation was, I was complaining about not liking Donald Trump, he said ‘give Donald Trump a chance.’ I sort of disagreed with that.”

On top of sharing Harry’s opinions on the political climate across the pond, Thomas Sr. also spoke to a conversation he had with Harry about Brexit. (The tricky topic was, of course, brought up by Morgan.) “It was just a loose conversation about something that we have to try. There was no real commitment to it.” Morgan pressed further, asking if Harry supported Brexit. To which Thomas (thankfully) kept his answer somewhat vague: “I think he was open to the experiment.”

The interview wasn’t all politics: at another point in their on-air chat, Thomas Sr. teared up as he reflected on his infamous staged photos, calling them a “mistake.” He continued on to say that he “spoke to them both and apologized” for the images, insisting that Harry and Meghan were “very forgiving.”

July 16, 2018: Thomas Markle Sr. gives his second tell-all interview

In a new interview with British tabloid The Sun, Thomas Markle Sr. asserts his belief that his daughter is miserable in her role as the Duchess of Sussex. Here are some of the highlights. (And by highlights, we of course mean cringe-worthy moments):

“My thing about my daughter right now is that I think she is terrified. I see it in her eyes, I see it in her face and I see it in her smile. I’ve seen her smile for years. I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing now. This one isn’t even a stage smile – this is a pained smile.”

“Meghan seems like something out of an old movie. Why in 2018 are we dressing like the 1930s? Why do they have to cover their knees?”

“Anyone who makes a profit off the Royal Family becomes shunned. But I could have made well over $100,000 by just doing a talk show. So if I moved to London and started selling cups with my daughter’s face on, would they shun me?”

August 12, 2018: Okay, Thomas Markle Sr. seriously doesn’t know when to stop talking…

Thomas Markle’s latest — and according to him, last (ha!) — interview has him addressing the facts and fiction of his narrative in the media. In the story, he claims that drinking a class of red wine with dinner is good for the heart, that fish from McDonald’s is part of a healthy post-heart attack diet and that he had a “heated” pre-wedding phone call with Prince Harry.

Shortly after the third explosive interview, the Daily Mail‘s Richard Kay reported that the royal family is in a state of “existential crisis” over the nonstop drama. “The perception is that he was treated very much as an afterthought,” said one royal aide, “No one went to visit him when the answer would have been to have someone fly out from London and explain to him how things were going to happen. Even after he started talking to the media it was not too late.”

December 9, 2018: Thomas Markle Sr. launches pre-Christmas campaign to get Meghan to speak with him

Well, well, well…it looks like Mr. Markle has lied to us all when he said he would no longer be giving interviews to the press. Meghan’s father, once again, spoke with the Daily Mail, where he shared intimate details about their relationship. “I have been frozen out and I can’t stay silent,” he said, “I have made dozens of attempts to reach my daughter via text and letters, but she and Harry have put up a wall of silence. They have done what they once told me not to do – they are believing everything negative that has been written about me.”

Then, in an effort to prove himself worthy of being let into the oh-so-private royal inner circle, Thomas Markle shared letters that the Duchess has written to him over the years — including the ‘Save the Date’ card from her first wedding. (She’s wearing a bikini. It’s on the beach. There’s a beer. It’s just a little different from the wedding announcement Kensington Palace made for Markle’s second nuptials.)

December 16, 2018: Samantha Markle criticizes the royal Christmas card

On December 14, Kensington Palace shared Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first Christmas card as a married couple. The black and white photograph is a BTS shot from their May wedding, and shows the royals holding onto one another as they watch a firework display over Frogmore House.

December 16, 2018: Thomas Markle Sr. feels he’s been ‘ghosted’ by his daughter

During an appearance on Good Morning Britain, Thomas Markle—who Piers Morgan confirmed “received no payment for today’s interview”—said he’s tried to contact Meghan every day since the royal wedding, but has yet to receive a response.

Setting: Embassy Suites, Columbus, OH

Summary: Marley is meeting her friend for an Engagement Party. Brody is supervising the FFA Conference for his students. They both end up at a hotel in Columbus, and a lot of tension builds until combusting.

Part 2

‘Yeah, completely different. I kind of like it. It’s a nice pace, you know?” Even if she has gotten use to the slow pace in Lima, it was nice being in a more ‘city like’ location, even though Columbus wasn’t that big, but it had more things to do. “Oh I can’t imagine.” She admitted, being in Lima that long. “No, not really a theme. She wants us to go to Vegas for her bachelorette party, so I have to save up for that… it isn’t for a few months at least.” Which she was happy about. “I am, it’s nice getting away and spending time with friends..” Considering how stressful things have been recently. “Yeah, I am sure you would..” Was he meaning to have this come off as dirty, because it did. She raised an eyebrow at his next comment. “Nice to talk about?” She asked slowly, but pressed her lips together. “I think Batsky would have murdered Bing. She is a great dog, but she is so apprehensive towards other dogs.. I mean i am sure she will be fine eventually, I just rather monitor her before I unleash her on Bing.” She was kind of relieved by the change of subject. Wrinkling her nose as he described the subject, Marley blew out some air. “I am on the edge of my seat already!” She exclaimed, she knew she said the wrong thing though, and groaned, because she said the wrong thing. Running her hand through her hair, she nodded. “Yeah, it is.” She agreed, biting down on her lips. “My comment doesn’t make it awkward, Brody.. I was just saying..”

“It’s a good change, i think.” He chuckled, “Nah, you never can until it happens,” he agreed. He’d never really considered it himself until he was already here this long. “Oh, yeah, A girl’s night on the Strip can definitely add up,” he agreed. Brody had never stayed on the Strip himself, but he’d been to Vegas enough times to notice the prices added up fast. “At least it’ll be good weather when you go, though. And you’ll have time to save.” He nodded in agreement. “Yeah, sometimes you just need to get away from everything and take a break.” Marley eyeballed him, and Brody felt a little chagrined about having made the joke in the first place. Probably too soon to joke about kids’ libidos, he guessed. “Uh, yeah. You know, nice, with like cloth napkins. So you can talk about girl...wedding...stuff. Far away from teenagers?” Cloth napkins maybe sounded awkward, but it was the only defining difference between downstairs and a real restaurant he could think of offhand. He smirked at the thought of Batsky, and shrugged, “Good point-- your kid is kind of a princess.” Brody laughed with her. “It really is that exciting,” he agreed jokingly-- not that he actually didn’t find the seminars interesting, but he imagining Marley sitting through one was amusing, to say the least. He nodded politely, and then looked up in surprise at Marley’s statement. “What? No, I never said it did,” he protested, shaking his head with an incredulous puff of air. “I’m glad we’re talking again. As friends.”

“I agree. A change is always nice.” Marley giggled. “It doesn’t feel that long, does it?” She knew he came here quite a while ago, so she wondered what it felt like to him. “Yeah completely. I don’t really gamble, so I shouldn’t have a problem there, I just need money for the flight and everything.” With her luck, this will turn into something out of bridesmaids, but she’ll remain optimistic for now. “Yeah, that is what I heard.” She grinned at his little joke. She couldn’t believe he was joking about kids having sex, but at that age, it happened. “Yeah I am sure.. I mean cloth napkins aren’t my things, but I can agree to it.” She had a feeling brunch was off property at least. “She really is. I don’t know what to do to do with her at times.” But she loved her dog. Still, his seminars seemed pretty boring, but he knew more about it than her. “I just felt.” She shrugged, because things were awkward all around. “Yeah.. same.”

“Yeah, it is.” A change meant a fresh start, right? Even though they were talking about geography, Brody couldn’t help but transpose the idea onto their relationship. He wanted to be around Marley without it being weird; but he was still having trouble finding the right balance. If she would just date Sebastian, he felt like he could find his place, but both of them seemed to be ridiculously stubborn on that count, so he was left out in Purgatory. His eyes traveled upwards in thought, bobbing his head back and forth in mock consideration, “Seven years?” he reminded her, shrugging his shoulders for good measure, although an amused smile was breaking through as well. “It feels like a lifetime sometimes, to be honest. Like where I was and where I am are two different mes entirely.” That was probably more truth than he’d ever told Marley about his past, even though it was a flippant comment in and of itself. But he’d spent a long time trying to be better than he was before he got to Lima, and while he was stumbling currently, he still was hopeful for himself. “Well, I mean, if it’s a bachelorette party, are you sure you’re going to be spending a lot of time gambling?” he asked with a suggestive smirk. “I mean, most people head to Vegas for those kind of things for, you know…” He tugged at his button up to imply strippers without actually saying it. “And, obviously alcohol, which usually leads to more frivolous spending,” he added. Brody eyed Marley a little skeptically. “No? You’d normally turn down a fancy brunch for a breakfast buffet with a hundred high schoolers?” he asked with a crooked smile. “Or are you just literally put off by the idea of napkins that literally don’t feel like they do anything for any sort of mess you make?” He never really liked linens, himself. They sort of shielded your clothes from crumbs, but if you spilled anything liquid, good damn luck mopping it up with whatever the hell type of fabric those things were made of. “Eh, you’ll spoil her rotten and never change houses or get another dog until she goes to live on a farm,” he told her with a laugh. He nodded-- he wanted things to not be weird, to not worry that Marley was still holding on. And they were doing fine, right? “Hey, you know,” he said, gesturing sideways with his hand. “I was actually going to grab a bucket of ice before bed. You want to walk?” Words were difficult, but maybe if they were focused on doing something, it would be easier. I mean, they could go get a bucket of ice together easy enough, right? Kind of get past that awkward standing phase, at least.

She smiled, glancing over at a group of people talking among herself. Things were still weird between them, but not as weird as it was with Sebastian.. Until they fixed it. Marley truly hoped she and her friend didn't do this again, and she and Brody could get past this. “Seven years? Wow. That is a long time.” She said. So couldn't image being here for that long. “Yeah? I mean seven years change everything.” She agreed, wondering if he meant more. In all honesty, she didn't know much about him. At times, Brody seemed like such a mystery to her. “That's true. Knowing Emily, it will be strippers and booze.” She grinned at that thought. Not really her thing, but it would be fun. “I think I'd take my fancy napkins over high school students, thank you very much.” She retorted, Grinning at him. “She isn't spoiled. She is just loved.. I should get another dog though. Give her a friend or something.” She cocked her head to the side. “Oh. Sure. I'll come with you.” She moved towards him, so they could go to the ice machine. “I love hotel ice machines..” Smooth, Marley. Real smooth

“Yeah, I mean, it’s a while to be in one place,” Brody agreed. “But the seniority thing is good. I don’t get pink slipped anymore. It’s okay.” He chuckled. “Wow, thanks Marley; I don’t feel even older now,” he joked. He admitted it sounded like a lot out loud, but it wasn’t like Marley didn’t know he was thirty, right? “It can, though, yeah.” Her description of her friend fit exactly Brody’s image of someone who would spend their bachelor party in Vegas. “Well, it is her night,” he reminded Marley. “Better make the most of it. Go see those Australian guys. Try to keep away from any Elvis chapels.” He wasn’t even sure Marley was into the whole stripper-scene, but they had talked about it once or twice, so it was definitely possible. The younger teacher’s response made him smile, and he shrugged, “Your choice,” he conceded, shaking his head. “Yes, loved so much that she won’t share anything. A-plus child-rearing. She can’t manage hanging out with Bing, and you want to try to get her a friend?” he repeated incredulously, laughing. Luckily, Brody’s room was close, so he slipped inside a grabbed his bucket before they began sauntering down the hall toward the machine. So far so good… He couldn’t help but bark out a surprised laugh. “Really?” he replied. Out of all the things she could enthuse about in the hotel, she was gushing about ice machines? Were they really this bad? “I don’t know if I’ve ever really noticed anything distinguishing about them myself, but I mean, it’s not like I’ve ever thought about it. What, do you like cover the room and go sledding?” he asked with a smirk.

It really is.. I don't think I've been in one place that long.” Hell she wasn't even sure if she wanted to be in Lima that long. “Eh. That's true. I wish they didn't do that.” Wrinkling her nose, she sighed. “Hey. You're the one that class yourself an old Fogey.” She reminded him. That was all on him. “Oh yeah. I'm just going to be there for the ride.” Marley agreed. “Ohhhh Australian guys, and don't get married, right.” While that wasn't exactly her scene she planned on having fun. “Batsky isn't that bad. She just isn't use to Bing, that's all. I'm sure if I got another pet, she'd have to adjust. They headed to his room, and he grabbed his bucket. They headed down the hall, and Marley nodded. “It seemed fancy I guess. Is that weird?” Glancing up at him, she wrinkled her nose. Of all topics this is what she talked about. Ugh. Still, her lip twitched, and she nodded. “Of course. It's the only thing to do.”

Brody quirked an eyebrow at her, “Never?” Although, now that he thought about it, if the longest she’d ever stayed anywhere was for school, that would still only have her staying put for maybe four years. And seven years was a little less than a third of Marley’s life to begin with. “Well, if the school’s filled up with whipper snappers that don’t intend on staying very long, there’s got to be some reward for us old fogies for putting up with them, right?” He laughed as she repeated his words back to him. “Maybe, but I don’t put actual years on it,” the older man argued. “Well, this will give you a better idea of how to navigate the next one, right? Exactly, hot, beefy, mostly naked guys with sexy accents and avoiding jewelry or binding contracts.” Brody shot her an amused look. “I don’t know-- I seem to remember someone saying pretty adamantly that their dog was a little diva that did what she wanted and expected people to bow in her presence, among other things,” he reminded her, thinking of the Spaghetti Fundraiser-- and trying not to think of any of the not-explicitly friendly moments that happened that day. “But sure-- maybe it’d be good to have a friend to boss around. Like a sibling.” Yeah, thinking about an ice machine as fancy felt weird, but Brody thought maybe Marley was trying to make things less weird between them too, so he went with it. “I mean-- it’s nice that they have one on every floor,” he offered. “And that it’s kind of eternal. I mean, I’ve never come across an empty ice machine.” He grinned and nodded. “Of course-- I mean, you have to rip down the shower curtain first. Set up a barrier so it doesn’t just melt into the carpet and lose all the slippery. But yeah: go steal a trash can lid and go crazy, right?”

No. I moved around a lot growing up. I guess the longest I've been at a school was two? Three years?” She asked more to herself, because she couldn't remember how long it was. “Hey! I never said I wasn't staying. Seven years seems like a long time though..” She admitted. In many ways it was. She wondered what young Brody was like when he first arrived. “Maybe not.” She grinned in bed at his suggestion. Hot Aussie guys? Yes please. “Or I can convince her to see them.” She offered. She could do that, right? “Oh hush. She is a diva. She'll get use to it eventually.” Blushing slightly, she was surprised he remembered. Sometimes Brody took her by surprise. “I was young, okay? When you're small, the most mundane things can seem fancy!” Still, she laughed at his description, imaging it in her head. “You're such a dork.” She nudged him, and grinned. “You know that, right?” She asked. “I'm sure you could though..”

Brody arched an eyebrow. “What about college?” he asked curiously. He would have thought she stayed in one place at least through that, though it still wouldn’t even be close to seven years. “Did I say you weren’t? I just said dad gurn whippersnappers.” He stuck his tongue out at her. “Seven years, out of your whole career, seems like a long time,” he echoed. “Hell, my mom’s still teaching in the same place as she was when she was around my age, which puts her in one place, what? Twenty-five years?” Brody shook his head. “That’s a long time, right there.” He laughed. “Well, I mean, I’m assuming that’s the Maid of Honor’s job, isn’t it? Setting the itinerary?” He remembered Mark’s Best Man organizing all of the Bachelor Party plans, mostly because he was too young to go with them. “But sure, I mean, who turns the idea down, right?” He laughed again at her scolding. “Hey, it’s your dog, so I’m just really here to provide colorful commentary.” Brody eyed her in amusement. “When was the last time you stayed in a hotel, Marley?” he asked a little incredulously, wondering how long ago it must have been if she still thought ice machines were fancy. He shrugged his shoulders as they reached the room, grinning, “A little, but I”m fun,” he replied, sticking the bucket under the opening. “Maybe. I mean, I’m more of the creative idea guy-- I feel like if you were actually going to try it, you’d want to recruit someone to distract the maids and steal an empty room, keep out of trouble, you know? Someone like--” He cut himself off as he realized where his train of thought was headed. He had obviously let himself talk too long, let himself get too caught up in his own playful banter, that he was considering bringing Sebastian back into a conversation he had no interest in talking about him in. Marley knew everything he had to say about Bas, and she was being stubborn, so really, there was nothing left to say if they wanted to keep this rocky foray into friendship steady. “Someone with a bit more crazy to them, I guess,” he finished instead. “Which I know, surprising considering who you’re comparing it to, but people like that do exist.”

“Hmm.. I guess you’re right. College does count, so I guess that was my longest time..” She mused, because while it was a while, it didn’t seem that long. Giggling at Brody’s comment, Marley nodded. “It does..” When he mentioned his mom, she was a bit surprised, because he has never really spoken much about his family. “Oh wow. She’s been teaching for that long?” Marley asked. She couldn’t imagine being at one place for twenty-five years. “It really is.” She agreed, and Marley nodded. “Yeah, it is, but that would be fun..” She thought so at least. “You make her sound worse than she is.” Marley teased. His comment had her wondering if he mistakened her. Raising an eyebrow, Marley wondered if he misunderstood her. “I mean I stay often, I just meant when I was a kid I thought they were fancy, you know? Not now… I mean it’s an ice machine.” She teased, grinning at the older man, hoping he didn’t think she found it fancy now. That was almost embarrassing. “You are fun.” She agreed, nudging him slightly. When he mentioned needing to recruit someone, she grinned widely, because that would be fun, however when he mentioned someone, and stopped, she bit down on her lip, because she knew who he was going to mention. Someone like Sebastian. Pressing her lips together, she wondered if she should bring it up. Things were going well, however there was also the elephant in the room, and somehow without thinking about it, she giggled. “You mean someone like Bas?” Then she realized what she said, and bit down on her lip. “Or you know.. Just someone, I think that might be a great idea.” She nodded her head. “They do.” She agreed.

“Well, those years fly by,” Brody conceded with a nod, “so I don’t blame you for forgetting them.” He scoffed a little as Marley agreed with his sarcasm, but he supposed he couldn’t blame her-- seven years at her age was a huge chunk of her life. Brody had kept planning and replanning his career every time he’d had to change professions: after all, the shelf life of a dancing career was much shorter than that of a rancher, or a teacher after that. Planning and making lists was just something he did when he was anxious, and every time he changed career paths, or states, well- he got anxious. She sounded surprised by his mention of his mom, and Brody wondered if he’d never mentioned it before: he would have thought Mrs. Rose would have asked about it during Christmas, but he’d been doing an impressive volley of turning the conversation back on herself and her daughter that night, so he could easily have avoided it. “Oh yeah, longer-- she didn’t start at Cal, obviously-- but she’s been there for twenty five. I mean, they practically give her free rein in her department, so she loves it. She’ll probably keep working until she’s dead,” he told her with a grin. “And, I mean, it’s a good area, and Dad had a good job, and all of us were already running around by that point. It just kind of made sense, you know?” Brody hoped to be like his mom at one point, having that kind of routine for so long. I mean, Lima hadn’t been his first pick, but he was okay with it by now. He shrugged, “Well, you could always ask if you can help-- or just wait till they’re drunk and steer them in that direction.” Brody laughed; although arguably Marley was probably right. He’d met the dog all but twice, so maybe Marley’s words were just affectionate ribbing that didn’t fit as well coming from a stranger. Still, “Oh yeah, I’m sure she’ll be a perfect sweetheart while she’s ripping up her new sibling like a chew toy,” he couldn’t help but reply. Brody’s mouth opened slightly, nodding in understanding. “Ah, yes, that makes more sense,” he remarked. “I mean, I don’t know-- maybe being abroad all the time, you’re only used to hostels or something, which have no fancy ice machines,” he laughed. Her tiny body nudged up against him, and he flashed her a grin. “I suppose I don’t suck, even if I am old and boring at this point.” She giggled, and after a quiet pause, dropped the name. Brody honestly didn’t want to talk about Bas: the asshole had been harping on him for ages, and was being a stubborn, denying pompous peacock...but he also missed him. He missed the banter, the jokes- the sex, obviously, but that was completely out of the question now that he was so ridiculously in love with Marley, even if he was avoiding it. But that’s something friends did, right? They talked about coworkers and friends-- and coworker friends they’d both had sex with. Sure. “Yeah, like Sebastian would be okay,” he agreed with a nod. He chewed on his lip. “So...he’s been okay?” he couldn’t help but ask, quickly following up, “I mean, dog sitting all by his lonesome.” He gave an easy smile, trying to keep the conversation casual.

Meghan Markle’s (aka the Duchess of Sussex) coat of arms was revealed this past week, and Samantha Markle is NOT impressed. In her latest take to Twitter, Samantha said that it “looks like it was drawn by someone in a kindergarten classroom”. Yikes. But that’s not all, Samantha then went to go on to attack Meghan, saying that the new coat of arms does not suit her. Her main issue appeared to be with the three quills that are said to represent communication. “She does not communicate with people she cuts people out of her life including a best friend of 30 years and two speeches in her whole lifetime does not make her a public speaker,” said one tweet. Along with “Her degrees are in drama and foreign affairs and only a bachelor degree,” and “Her motto is say nothing and she cut everyone off.”

alSince the beginning of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal romance, Markle’s family — in particular, her half-siblings — have been more than willing to give their two cents about their baby sister.
